Status Update + My Return to ORV

Hello y'all! Despite my total radio silence here on Tumblr over... who knows how long, I'm doing just fine! I was on a writing hiatus for 6 months or so, and I also transitioned from grad school to industry (writing a master's thesis, defending it, graduating, moving across the country, a job search, so many interviews, finally getting a new job, moving across the country again, and settling into my new role).

In the past few months, I returned to the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint and Scum Villain's Self Saving System fandoms (old faves of mine, but I was only ever a reader until recently). For those of you following my Winter Light Verse (still planning the continuation of that one out, and I hope to finally break the series hiatus earlier next year!), those two fandoms had a massive influence on my Verse. Especially in the case of ORV - so it feels like I'm finally moving back, however slowly. I'm excited to continue being active in all of those fandoms (along with S-Classes, which I recently ran into and love!)

As for what I'm doing right now? I took on the Froday Flash Fiction Challenge for December, where we're given a new prompt each day and I have the 24 hours to write for the prompt. I'm writing the work, Ad Astra Per Aspera and have actually kept up with the 600 words per day so far, which is a shocker for me. This fic is compatible with another fic I recently started, My Shining Star, My Guiding Light. Both of these fics are for the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint fandom.

For those of you unfamiliar, the Winter Light Verse is my total rewrite and rebuild of the Twilight Saga, infused with Eastern themes and made very gay. The central ship of that series is Carlisle Cullen/Beau Swan, but there are several other pairs and characters that really bring the world out. Also, I had the realization the other day that I was basically writing a danmei novel with all the tropes, so that was a bit amusing. The main work is Apricity, and all of the other works in this series are either side stories or AU/spin-offs of some kind.

After an accident lands Beau in the hospital where he meets the oldest Cullen sibling Carlisle, he begins to feel a strange draw to the man, notes an intricate mark, and knows for certain that something unnatural is afoot. A Twilight/Life and Death rewrite that starts on a similar premise, diverges very quickly, takes place in an entirely different world, leans more deeply into traditional/dark-erotic vampire themes, centers around an Eastern framework, and is very gay.

As for my current projects, both are for the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint fandom and are compatible with each other. Both fics are both Joongdok (Yoo Joonghyuk/Kim Dokja) and Plotja (Secretive Plotter/Kim Dokja), but at the same time, they are written as the same person (I swear it makes sense!). Ad Astra is my current daily project, and I am slowly working through the next chapter on Star/Light as the logistics of my still-chaotic IRL situation settle a bit.

hihi!! i wanna ask for a list of dramas with a lead whos cold, mysterious, haunted by a troubled past, secretive, prolly has a vocabulary of like 10 words. but is super soft on the inside, like they push ppl away cus theyre afraid of hurting them or being abandoned or smthn like that. ik this is hyper specific so sryyy if its hard to answer, but all my fave characters fit this bill so wanted to kno if u have any kdrama that can give me this high (⁠｡⁠•̀⁠ᴗ⁠-⁠)⁠✧ thxxx!! ♡

K-Dramas leads with cold personalities/mysterious past, secretive trauma pups...morally grey a plus

The Smile has left your eyes - Kim Moo-Young Aside from this k-drama being a masterpiece that’ll leave you a pile of tears, Seo in Guk as Kim Moo-Young is the perfect example of a morally grey character you will fall in love with. He’s involved in a murder plot line, uses women to get what he wants and is clearly hiding something. You’ll try to resist being interested in him sure, but you’ll fail.

Beyond Evil - both leads This is a passionate unrequited romance crime drama about two detectives that are paired up to solve a crime in a small town. Everyone is really messed up and that's what makes this drama super good! Scary, haunted and super well written.

Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 - Lee Rang Lee Rang is one of my favorite trauma pup blorbo from my shows! This drama is the second season of the fantasy drama Tale of the Nine Tailed. I recommend you watch both but season two was my favorite because it focused on Lee Rang. You will LOVE HIM! MUST PROTEC.

Alice The Final Weapon - Gyeo Wool Finally a GIRL with a traumatic past and the boy who loves her!! Actually everyone in this drama is messed up and dealing with horrific things. It's a very short and creative little drama and despite the gore, I really fell for the mains! They are blorbo from my shows!

See You In My 19th Life (both leads) This drama featuring a woman who can remember her past lives was one of my favorites this year! Both leads are tackling the trauma of the FL's death and there is a lot of healing that has to happen. Shin Hye Sun is a goddess!

The Eighth Sense - Jae Won A queer kdrama about two leads that meet surfing and fall in love. This drama is my favorite "bl" k-drama ever and the lead definitely has a traumatic past he's in therapy for. I highly recommend this one!

Flower of Evil - Hyun Soo: A psychological thriller centered around a jewelry maker who is running from his past, and his cop wife (power couple alert!)  who doesn’t know his original identity. The chemistry of the couple is amazing and all of the characters are nuanced and interesting. I was on the edge of my seat, AND sobbing! Also, I finally understand Lee Jun Ki stans, he was SO GOOD in this! A total trauma pup you won't believe it.

Doom at Your Service: Doom A girl is diagnosed with cancer and a morally grey god grants her wish to live 100 more days the way she wants to live. While I didn't LOVE this drama, the romance is amazing - that KISS! Doom is the perfect damaged god with a chip on his shoulder.

Hello Monster - Lee Hyun and His Brother Jung Sun-Ho Featuring two brothers who have a murderous backstory, both are morally grey. Sure one is definitely “worse” than the other when it comes to being a murder baby but let’s face it - they both have their problems (sorry, didn’t want to post any spoilers so that’s all I can say about that!)

The Crowned Clown: Ha-seon The King The contrast between the good guy and the bad guy in this historical drama are so interesting to watch because one brilliant actor (Yeo Jin Goo) plays the same character. The king is insane and a murderer. He’s terrible in every way with literally no way to be redeemed but you’ll still feel for him…just watch.

My Liberation Notes - Mr. Gu This slice of life takes place mostly in a small town where siblings who really don't want to be there, live. Mr. Gu is renting one of the buildings and he's extremely burdened and and keeps to himself. I personally didn't ship him with the lead but he's definitely the type you're asking for!

Scarlet Heart Ryeo: Wang Soo Scarlet heart will destroy you, but you’ll also find yourself deeply empathetic to (and totally in love with) the most toxic of princes: Wang Soo. Cast out by his relatives, and treated like an animal he’s deeply wounded and despite knowing in your heart that he’s done terrible things, you’ll find yourself making excuses for him and imagining him as your boyfriend (wait…can you ignore that last sentence?)

Summer Strike - Both leads This slice of life has a quiet and thoughtful male lead who is traumatized by the murder of his sibling. I was a little disappointed in the ending but overall the show's mains were so soft and lovely.

Just Between Lovers - Both leads but. Kang Doo! I'm sure you knew I'd put this on the list but kang doo is my favorite trauma baby of all time. Slice of Life romance between poor pups just trying to live! The OTP is one of my favorite couples EVER and even as the years go on, very few couples have matched their love in my opinion. There’s a lot of comfort/healing themes with for me is just *chef’s kiss.* Lee Junho became my bias wrecker because of that drama.

Psycho But It’s Okay - Everyone A gorgeous k-drama using fairytale narrations as a backdrop, features two brothers who lost their mother, and a beautiful & famous author who grew up in a traumatic and abusive household. Everyone is very closed off and holding onto intense pain, but the three come together to help one another move on and find happiness. Gorgeous angsty and melodramatic romance.

Thirty But Seventeen - Woo Jin Precious puppies with past trauma! The main has basically stopped living his life because of his past. Don’t be turned off by the shows description as it turned out to be one of the best surprises of 2018 for me. The leads are lovely and everyone relies and supports one another - it’s so sweet.

Come and Hug Me - Do Jin This thriller is not for the faint of heart but the main theme is healing. Two friends are torn apart when the boy’s dad kills the girls entire family. Later in life, they find one another and walk on the path to healing while still being tormented by their past. It also focuses on the trauma and manipulation the killer has on the whole family, making the show beautiful, terrifying and heartbreaking at the same time. 

Goblin: Grim Reaper Most of you have watched this drama but I’ll try hard not to spoil it. The Grim Reaper is such a hilarious character in the current time line but in order to be a Grim Reaper, you have to have done something “bad” to become one. His pain is deep and cutting and you’ll want to protect him.

It’s Okay that’s love: Jang Jae-yeol This is one of those cold male leads that you’ll just end up liking even though he’s kinda the worst in that “Pickup Artist” type of way? I had this show listed in my top 10 but then I recently watched it again and realized I’ve made progress in my “don’t like jerks who display jerk behavior” because he’s kinda an ass. You’ll soften for him when the plot moves along for sure, but he’s aggressive and says really sexist things sometimes (as does most of the male characters honestly - i really need to remove this from my top 10)…

Ana Nogueira, the actress and playwright who is now making forays into screenwriting, has been tapped to pen Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a standalone feature centered on the Kryptonian cousin of Superman being developed by DC Studios. No director is attached and Nogueira’s deal only recently closed. The project is actually a redo for Nogueira. The writer was quietly hired to pen a Supergirl movie in 2022 when Warner Bros. was developing the project as a spinoff of The Flash, then in post-production. Flash featured Sasha Calle as the heroine and the hope was to launch another DC film franchise. Gunn and Safran liked the work Nogueira had done on the previous Supergirl project and quietly brought her back, even giving her an overall DC writing deal. Nogueira may be best known for a stint on CW’s The Vampire Diaries, with acting credits including The Michael J. Fox Show and the recent Starz series Hightown. But she has also built a thriving writing career. Her play Which Way to the Stage debuted off-Broadway in 2022 and she is working on an adaptation of author Alice Sola Kim’s short story Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters, set up at Warners with 21 Laps producing.

IN THIS MOMENT's latest album, "Godmode", arrived back in October via BMG. The LP was produced by Kane Churko (ROB ZOMBIE, DISTURBED, PAPA ROACH) and Tyler Bates. Bates produced, wrote songs for, and played multiple instruments on albums by MARILYN MANSON, BUSH and ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell. He is best known, however, for scoring the box office smash "300", the Emmy Award-winning Showtime series "Californication", the "Guardians Of The Galaxy" and "John Wick" film franchises. IN THIS MOMENT's song "I Would Die For You" appeared on the soundtrack for "John Wick: Chapter 4", for which Bates wrote the score.

With a Grammy nomination ("The In-Between", 2021),platinum and gold record sales, multiple Top 25 entries on the Billboard Top 200 ("Black Widow" and "Ritual"),hits including "Whore", "Blood" and "Adrenalize" and career streams of more than 1.3 billion, you'd think IN THIS MOMENT might rest on their laurels. The L.A.-based band's eighth album finds vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth writing the most powerful songs of their career.

"We're always striving for reinvention and growth. It's been 10 years since our 'Blood' album, and there's been a lot of transitions happening, this year particularly, but it all felt so meant to be," explains Brink. IN THIS MOMENT, a touring juggernaut who've slayed stages worldwide at Ozzfest, Warped Tour, Download, Knotfest and Rocklahoma, put out "Mother" in 2020, during the pandemic, giving fans something to hold on in during that bleak time, and earning "The In-Between" the band's first Grammy nod. It was 2021 when Howorth and Brink first wrote with Bates on "I Would Die For You". Following that collaboration, the duo were writing organically, for pleasure, not focused on the next album. As the pandemic waxed and waned, Howorth learned programming, and created music around synthwave sounds, which Brink leaned into. Her lyrical ideas arose both from soul-searching and "humanity and so much crisis and so many heart-wrenching things in the world. That negativity and darkness is how songs like 'The Purge' came about," Brink explains.

The end result is that when IN THIS MOMENT went into the studio in January 2023, the easy flow had allowed them to compile the most songs they'd ever written at one time, songs the entire band loved. Longtime producer Kevin Churko helped shape ITM's sound starting in 2008, but for "Godmode", his son, Kane Churko, was at the helm.

"Kane's got all the strengths that his father taught him —everything, all the bells and whistles, but he's got some new tricks because he's a younger generation, he's hungry," says Brink.

Kane was the perfect match for IN THIS MOMENT's inspired songs.

"During the pandemic, just writing versus writing with a pressure that music has to be for an album, allowed us the freedom to make the record we made," says Howorth. "Godmode"'s songs gained even more strength in the studio, with Kane shaking up the band's usual m.o. even further.

"Having some songs by Tyler influenced us as well," Brink explains. "It was scary for the band, but it ended up flowing just so beautifully. We felt very experimental."

That flow gave the album its name and theme. "Godmode" isn't religious, rather it's an expression for a triumphant flow state where all comes together seamlessly, coalescing into an ultimate form. As Brink sings in "Godmode", "You got me feeling so high / You lift me off of my feet yeah / You got me feeling like, feeling like / I'm in Godmode." In video games — Howorth plays the game "Destiny" — "God mode" also refers to a code that makes a player invincible.

"There's a spontaneity in this album that you can hear. It's a little more visceral. And that we're not with Kevin, who has done all our albums except for our very first, fans will hear those differences too, which is really cool and exciting for us," Howorth says.

"We had all this built-up energy from the last three years, we felt angst, we felt we had a lot to release," furthers Brink. "And we were letting it loose organically, while also playing with different time signatures and interesting things like that." "We use an 8-string on the album, which we haven't done before," Howorth says. "We did some different tunings, and it can definitely be freeing from guitar standpoint, the way we did things this time. Working with Kane was different and more off the cuff, being in the studio, getting creative and just trying a bunch of different stuff on every song. It was a really good experience."

As fans of Brink's lyrics know, life in and around IN THIS MOMENT hasn't always been easy. As Brink recalls, "When I met Chris, I was just a starry-eyed girl with huge dreams. And he was in a PANTERA-like metal band!" She told Howorth she wanted a heavy lineup that could sell platinum and win Grammys. The band had an early manager who told them it would never happen. But his dismissiveness only fueled IN THIS MOMENT's fire, energy and fight. "We're just relentless," says Brink. "Anything's possible if you really put your mind and energy into it."

For "Godmode", that energy also went into the "The Purge" video, where director Noen brought his artistry and next-level talent to Brink's storyboard ideas. The larger-than-life video themes and sets have been translated into IN THIS MOMENT's live stage show, literally. And summer 2023 saw the band on its first arena co-headlining tour with full pyrotechnics.

"Our whole lives we've talked about being in an arena and having fire and a full show," Brink says. "And now we're doing it and it's just so beautiful."

IN THIS MOMENT certainly have nothing to prove, the lineup's authority assured live on record and onscreen. Yet, "Godmode"'s energy and scope is visceral.

"With our new ideas and excitement and Kane's energy of wanting to prove himself to everybody, we were able to show that we're heavy and just as impactful as every other new band coming out right now," says Howorth. "We can punch you right in the face, that energy is in there big, time. I think our fans are really gonna like this album, because it's taken us back a little bit where it began, but it's also more instinctive, and heavier than anything we've done a long time," concludes Howorth.

Brink, a private person, nonetheless gives and takes much strength from ITM's millions of fans. The healing is on both sides.

"It's amazing if my songs help people feel empowered. When humans share painful things that we went through and how we heal from it, we can help each other and pass that energy on," she says. "Honestly, the most beautiful thing about being in a band is being able to have that connection with strangers who become kindred spirits. Sure, I have urges to wear 'masks' and hide from everything and wear makeup, but I like to share and be honest and vulnerable. The sky's the limit," Brink concludes. "You just have to keep dreaming, keep expanding, keep pushing yourself to that next level. I feel like something is shifting right now in the band; this is such a special moment for us with 'Godmode'."

always the center of everything, you were the sun to your loved one's earth.

you befriended half your class in kindergarten, you were especially close to two boys, beomgyu and soobin.

soobin was a shy boy with chubby cheeks, and wise words, despite his age.

beomgyu was your average energetic, and hyper child, but he had a soft side to show. he was your neighbor, but soobin lived two neighborhoods away. you were always in love with soobin, ever since you met him. beomgyu, always teased you for your silly crush on him, but he offered words of advice to make soobin like you. you listened to beomgyu's advice, even if they were stupid. like in middle school, you cooking him studio ghibli inspired meals, you wanted to try making the howl's moving castle breakfast for him.

but you hilarously, and unfortunately almost burnt your house down. although the breakfast plan was a fail, soobin was still concerned for you, you fell for him. and real hard, too.

you're now in your third year of highschool. 18 years old, and this is your first day of school being in third year. you close the almost broken rusty gate, that still protects your house from thieves till this day. somehow.

you see soobin and beomgyu waiting ahead, for you. they waved at you and smiled, as you tighten your grip on your bag, as you try to hold in your screams of excitement in this quaint and peaceful average neighborhood in seoul.

"i noticed you got new shoes. do they fit well?"

soobin tilts his head as we walk, soobin on your right, beomgyu on your left.

your face felt warm, and your chest felt tingly from his question, he's the type to notice lots of details of people he cares about.

"well, they fit quite nicely. i got these from my aunt."

you spin around, feeling proud of yourself.

beomgyu replies with a dramatic amazed tone, as he gasps.

"y-you mean your aunt that lives in switzerland? that r-rich aunt of yours?"

he stutters jokingly, as he puts his hand to his mouth, pretending to be shocked. you rolled your eyes at him, grabbing both their hands, as you run and drag them to the school entrance, and you slow down, letting go of their big, warm palms.

"i'm excited, if you couldn't tell, now hurry up! you're not carrying giant shells on your backs, aren't you?"

you smile, as you head to the entrance first, skipping to the classroom, as the two boys follow behind.

"well, if bags with heavy and thick books on our backs count, wouldn't that technically mean we're tortoises with shells on our backs, right?"

soobin comments, his witty dialogue in your conversations are never getting old. you slide the classroom door open. it was empty. you take in the woody smell of the classroom labeled as '3-1'.

you walk in, take the seat near the window, so you can pretend to be a shoujo manga protagonist, while you daydream of dating soobin. you three continue your conversation, before more people came in, you recognized all of the students from your first and second years, some students from your second year class transferred to another third year section, because you noticed some people were missing, and overheard a conversation where they were automatically transferred because their grades dropped dramatically.

the teacher walks in with a new student, she seems to be someone from abroad.

"everyone, take your seats, i'll take attendance after we introduce our first exchange student."

the teacher commands, the students sat down, mumbles and whispers about her can be heard. light brown hair, dainty figure, innocent, round face, and round, doe eyes. she was the perfect embodiment of the beauty standard.

the teacher tells her to introduce herself, as she looks at the teacher with anxious eyes, but still continues.

"i'm kim alice. i hope you treat me well."

she bows, and the teacher gives her a seat, right in front of you. she waves at everyone in the classroom, including you, which you nervously returned.

the class started. you tried your best to pay attention, but you just couldn't. you kept daydreaming, and exchanging looks with soobin.

the class ends, allowing you to breathe and have a thirty minute breaktime before the next subject, then after that, you have lunch. alice turns to you, her pale hand reaches out to you. she wanted a handshake, for some reason.

you shook her hand, and she beamed with a smile on her face.

"hello, I just wanted to know your name since you caught my attention.. if you don't mind."

she chuckles, her pearly white teeth reflects the light coming from the window, almost blinding you. not literally.

"i'm (yn) (ln)." you smile, with your mouth closed, already feeling a little insecure. it's like a side character being face to face with a shoujo manga protagonist.

"oh, great! you look very pretty, by the way, your tone is a cool winter tone, not a warm autumn tone."

she wipes off the lip tint on your lips, putting lip balm on it, then a layer of lip tint of a cooler winter pink color. you had no idea what 'warm' and 'cool' tones were. she was a really pretty girl, topped off with knowledge about makeup and beauty, and all that. you only knew how foundation and concealer worked.

"you're very good-looking, so don't go making your lips look dry, okay?"

she gives you the lip tint and lip balm, and continues.

"i forgot i recently bought a cool tone lip tint by accident, so i'll give you this, and your lips look dry, so here."

she pushes the items toward you, and returns to her original sitting position, probably going through social media. how does one forget that they bought something that they don't even need?

you arrived home, the two boys walked you here, and returned back home by themselves.

all the school talked about was alice. you were captivated by her, like everyone else, you couldn't wait until tomorrow, to see what she does next.

you walked to school with beomgyu and soobin, this time, beomgyu tried to bleach his hair blonde, but failed so badly, that the blonde that was supposed to reach into his hair's root, all washed off when he took a shower. you and soobin laughed at his hair, although, you couldn't help but admit, he looks good.

you sat down at your window seat, when the teacher announced a new seating arrangement. alice is going to be in your chair, and soobin's gonna sit beside her, while you and beomgyu were seated in the back row's middle, separated from soobin. you watched as alice tells soobin her name, and her hobbies, and he does the same. you couldn't help but feel jealous, but you wanted soobin to make new friends, besides sticking to his own circle of friends.

you wonder if this change in seating would change your friend circle, too?

Gosh do I have a type and they're all Old Men and Tragic Ladies my beloved. Let's go!! 1. Varric Tethras (Dragon Age 2): he shot right through my heart with that crossbow THE LITERAL SECOND he came on screen and I've been cursing Bioware ever since. He is a nonromanceable short king and I have never wanted anyone more thx. 2. Nakmor Drack (Mass Effect Andromeda): the Tempest Crew is so freaking charming, and while I love my jelly fish cat aliens the Angara, my favorite character is absolutely this old cantakerous grandpa Krogan. Whom, much like Wrex, I wish I could romance. (p.s. there is a TEASE of a flirt option and u can imagine how little that helped my case) 3. Spock (literally every Star Trek iteration): He is my Everything. Nemoy, Quinto, and Peck all bring something unique to the character's portrayal. I love him in every universe and I can never get enough of this EMOTIONALLY COMPROMISED NERD.

4. Alicent Hightower (House of the Dragon): one half of my divorced lesbinems and I feel so much for her and the tragedy/complexity of both her character and the heartwrenching slow decay of her r/s with Rhaenyra. I cannot wait for S2. 5. Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy VII): ooooough, beautiful, tragic, kind, funny, cool flower seller of my life. Remake!Aerith particularly stole my heart along with the show. There is this sad, beguiling mystery about her that draws you in, and she is so cheerful in spite of it all. I can't wait for Rebirth but also I am terrified lol. 6. Yennefer of Vengerberg (The Witcher): "How ravishing she is, he thought. Everything about her is ravishing. And menacing. Those colours of hers; that contrast of black and white. Beauty and menace. Her raven-black, natural curls. Her cheekbones, pronounced, emphasising a wrinkle, which her smile – if she deigned to smile – created beside her mouth, wonderfully narrow and pale beneath her lipstick…" I mean. C'mon. That is MY WIFE etc, copy paste rj's exact blurb. Anya Chalotra is the perfect Yen. She is everything and deserves the world and I will glady let her burn it all down and murder me if she wants to. 7. Zero (Final Fantasy XIV): [Endwalker patch spoilers!] who doesn't love an autistic badass goth half-human half-voidsent who has lived as a monster for so long she forgot her own identity and is learning how to be human again and finding her humanity via the power of friendship and delicious food, like. I needed more of her and I miss her already!!!

8. Kim Wexler (Better Call Saul): omg so hard to pick just one from this show (ilu nacho), but Kim Wexler SUCKER PUNCHES U IN THE THROAT with her awesomeness. She is this extremely competent, understated cool, calculating yet caring and earnest character who compliments Jimmy so well and whose nuances her amazing actress Rhea Seehorn manages to convey so masterfully. She is also tragic af, but hello it's Breaking Bad prequel lol. On that note... 9. Kim Kitsuragi (Disco Elysium): DOUBLE KIM WHAMMY!!! They're so alike it's not even funny. I'd say Kim has the stronger moral center between the two, but I love them for many of the same reasons. He is also extremely competent, understated cool, with a side of being totally game for Harry's antics once he warms up to him (my Harry build was 'himbo' so he did a lot of dumb shit but he was nice). 10. Irving Bailiff (Severance): firstable, if you haven't seen Severance yet, please do yourself the favor and don't let me spoil this for u!! Irving Bailiff is an Experience. He is a stickler for the rules and very much a stick in the mud compared to his colleagues, but his true self leaks into this version of himself slowly at first, then in surprising bursts of rebellion that become clear at the end when it is shown that his Outtie/true self is actively trying to bring Lumon down like a TOTAL FUCKING BADASS in the most delightful reveal. Also he has a whirlwind romance with another old man played by Christopher Walken.

The Great Produce 48 Rewatch: Ep 4, Boombayah Challenge, Part 1

Welcome, or Welcome Back, to The Great Produce48 Rewatch Recap Project Thingy Dingy! When we left off in the previous post, we saw team High Tension. But today we're going to a dark world... a Black World, if you will... and a world of fire and brimstone. It's Boombayah, Group 1, and it's Hellbayah.

Let's do it!

Lee Seungki calls the two Boombayah teams up to the stage, and in the judges room, Cheetah cutely does the sort of “backstroke” arm move from the dance. 

Team 1 introduces itself as “Black World.”

LTR: Kim Sohee, Won Seoyeon, Park Chanju, Ko Yujin, Lee Chaejeong

Team 2 introduces itself as “Snack.”

LTR: Han Chowon, Asai Nanami, Asai Yuuka, Chiba Erii, Kang Hyewon, Sato Minami

Seungki challenges them to talk a little smack to each other, and both teams promise to win. We see that the audience is full of fans of Nanami and Erii. 

We flashback to Team 1’s rehearsals… 

The story so far is that Chaejeong picked the group with Boombayah in mind. She thought Yujin would suit the song, that Chanju would learn it quickly, and that she needed Soyeon to sing. She added Sohee on purpose to provide cuteness. Naturally, given that she had a whole plan in mind, the team elects her leader immediately. Everything’s going so perfectly... Is it maybe too perfect? 

Kim Sohee, age 14, future member of Rocket Punch, rose from C to B and was ranked 44th.

Won Seoyeon, age 18, who auditioned to Heroine by Sunmi, fell from C to F and was ranked 77th as of episode 3. 

Park Chanju, age 19, label mate of Chaejeong’s, fell from C to D and was ranked 69th. 

Ko Yujin, age 17, the “Hyuna lookalike” who auditioned with Lip and Hip and rose from C to A. She was ranked 34th.

Lee Chaejeong, age 18, future member of Alice, stayed in C and was ranked 94th. 

We skip to dress rehearsal and the judges are complimenting them on their skills, talent, energy, and charisma. They do say, however, the Chanju is lacking a bit as center, and suggest that maybe they should change. In a flashback-within-the-flashback, we see them at rehearsal with Mary J Lee, where Chanju is making a lot of mistakes. Mary J Lee suggests changing the center to Yujin. Then we go to vocal/rap rehearsal, where Cheetah tries to get Chanju to put a little more “oomph” into her introductory “Black World in your area…”. Chanju is pronouncing it “annea” not “area”, too. Cheetah is like, “This is basically your only line -- can you not do it right?” and Chanju just keeps doing it the same way. Chaejeong tries and does a much better job, and Soyou suggests changing the center to Chaejeong. 

LTR: Sohee, Chaejeon, Chanju, Kojin, Soyeon

They have a meeting to discuss it and Chanju apologizes for all the mistakes. Chaejeong, who is Chanju’s labelmate and her friend, tells her it’s ok, there’s still time to improve.

They exchange a look...

and then Chanju collapses into tears. 

Her team tries to cheer her up. She continues quietly sobbing through her whole interview. She vows to make her team not doubt their decision to keep her as center. 

And that’s it! That’s all the rehearsal footage they get.

I don’t think the stylist unnie did them too many favors. This is all just black and white, no color at all, and Chaejeong’s outfit just adds bulk around her middle instead of emphasizing her curves. You can tell she’s a pretty trim and fit girl, but that’s not how she looks in the outfit. Chanju’s outfit is the worst offender -- the loose knit shorts with a weird suspender/ garter belt thingy over it? What is that? And those trouser socks pulled up to her knee? What is happening? At least her hair looks gorgeous. 

My thoughts:

Kind of underwhelming. Not terrible, but not spectacular.

Chanju does her best as center, and she does manage that first moment ok. I don’t know what, specifically, is missing. 

Her hairography is great, though.

I think the biggest problem is Sohee. 

I think you guys know by now that I quite like Rocket Punch, and Sohee does a great job as a member of Rocket Punch. But… she’s so young here and really doesn’t fit the concept. She also doesn’t do a very good job, unfortunately. Her dancing is weak and vague, her singing is wavery and pitchy, and she looks completely out of place next to most of the others. I know that Chaejeong picked her to “add cuteness” but I’m not sure that this group needed cuteness. It needed a 100% badass team to really rock it, and Sohee is very much the weakest link. Not her fault. She just needed more time to grow her skillset, and she needs a different concept to really shine. Never fear, Sohee! You’re going to debut in just a few years and do great! This just wasn’t your time. 

Soyeon’s singing anchored the team and she had the look and attitude down. There’s a bit of spark missing, I think? But it’s not anything I can pin down. 

Chaejeong killed it. Her rapping sounded great to me, and her attitude and performance overall was great. 

Yujin also killed it. Everything Chaejeong did, just with Korean-approved visuals too. I think she should have been the center. 

The MNET edit has lots of positive reactions from the other and from the judges, but they actually cut out a few seconds of the performance for no reason I can figure out. As Chaejeong raps, we hear Chetah saying, “She’s so full of charisma -- she’s made to perform.” The trainees and judges are signing and dancing along, and when the performance is done, they applaud with apparent sincerity. 

When they’re done, we go almost immediately to Group 2.

Soyou says,

“I think I’ll cry if they [group 2] do well.”

Dance Bae notes that both teams have good visuals, and the judges all say that they’re cheering for Group 2.

The members:

Han Cho Won, age 15, future Lightsum member who rose from D to B, ranked 79th.

Asai Nanami, age 18, aka Sailor Venus, who rose from F to D and was ranked 41st.

Asai Yuuka, age 14, who auditioned with Knock Knock, rose from F to D and was ranked 80th. 

Chiba Erii, age 14, aka Sailor Mercury, consistent F class girl ranked 38th.

Kang Hyewon, age 18, Miss Purity herself, consistent F class girl ranked 40th. 

Sato Minami, age 14, aka Sailor Mars, fell from D to F and was ranked 66th.

The story so far is that this group is the “leftovers” group -- the group of trainees no one else picked. Han Chowon, a member of group B and a talented young trainee, took over as leader and center because no one else would, and Kang Hyewon, the slightly dimwitted seeming Very Pretty Girl, unexpectedly stepped up to take on the main rapper role.

We jump back to rehearsals. 

Han Chowon is going through it. She’s exhausted from her quadruple role as leader, center, cheerleader, and teacher to the rest of the group. “I’m trying hard to lead the group,” she says, “but not everyone is able to follow along.”

I know this is a moment of them resting, and Erii is obviously watching the performance on the tablet, but they just look so dispirited. I think that’s Sato Minami on the left with her hair over her face -- I think she’s asleep, actually -- and that’s Asai Nanami sitting on the floor staring off into space. 

A staff member asks Chowon, what is the most frustrating aspect? And Chowon pauses for a long time before saying, “Sure, we had members who worked very hard” (and the camera shows us Nanami running through the moves) “but a few members made me doubt if they even wanted to perform” (and the camera points out Minami and Erii, giggling together, or sitting on the floor and needing to be literally dragged into practicing). 

The problem seems to be the three 14-year-old Japanese members of the team. The two 18-year-olds, Nanami and Hyewon, do their best to literally drag them into practicing.

We saw stuff like this with some of the younger boys on Boys Planet, as well. It’s almost as if, oh, I don’t know, maybe most 14 year olds don’t have the emotional maturity to face up to a situation like this and rise to the challenge, or the physical strength to keep going when you’re exhausted and underfed -- not to mention the constant mental drain of being in an environment where you can’t speak your native tongue. It’s almost as if, oh, I don’t know, maybe they shouldn’t let 14 year olds on shows like this? 

Erii, who breathes through gills on her neck and thus wears her mask under her chin, interviews, “Korean raps are so difficult. The tempo is really fast.” 

Minami says she felt demotivated. G”I don’t think I tried very hard,” she interviews. God, she looks so miserable.

We go visit the girls at vocal rehearsal.

Minami, Erii, Yuuka, Nanami, Hyewon, Chowon 

Minami and Erii are shown sort of… murmuring vaguely, I guess I’ll say… in the opening lines, which are in English: “Been a bad girl, I know I am / and I’m so hot, I need a fan / I don’t want a boy, I need a man.” They are putting absolutely no emphasis or energy into it. Not even a little.

Look, I get it. Rapping along with a rap song not in your language is tough. But there are Korean rap songs I’ve heard enough times that I can at least do a “na na na” noise to in rhythm even though I have no idea what they’re saying. If I had two days of practice, I think I could learn two or three lines of lyrics, especially if I just had to read them off of a sheet of paper! Also, the opening lines of Boombayah are in English, and they’re the same lines in the Japanese version and the Korean version. The song was a monster hit -- did they not hear the song thousands of times? Didn’t they study English in school? These are all fairly elementary English words, I feel like. I’m not just tearing these girls down over nothing, but I feel like they’re not even TRYING. It’s uncomfortable to watch. 

Cheetah is like, “What are they DOING?” PS: I love when Cheetah does her heavy makeup, bright red lip thing. She’s such a queen. Have you listened to Villain yet? Because it slaps. 

Soyou is ded.  

They get to the first “Boombayah!” and Cheetah is like, ok, that’s enough. After an uncomfortable pause, Cheetah asks, “What was I supposed to even watch? … I don’t think this is a language barrier issue.” 

Soyou immediately agrees, asking them if they just aren’t trying because they don’t want to do it. Yuuka, who is also 14 but appears to be trying a bit harder than her young teammates, shakes her head no, and Nanami, the team “mom” I think, also shakes her head no, as if trying to say, no, we’re here to try. But Minami and Erii just stare. Minami looks sad, at least, but Erii is just… well, whatever this is.

Honestly, Erii’s dead eyed stares get on my last nerve. I am trying not to be mean about the girl because she’s young and under stress and all that but OMG. GIRL. WTF. Why are your bangs just a little clump in the center of your face, and why is your brain just a little clump in the middle of your head? Sigh. That’s mean. But I’m not deleting it. 

Soyou calls out Minami and Erii. Pointing to them, she asks, “Are you both that discontent? You’re not even nodding. Your not singing, you’re not replaying, you’re not responding.

Aww, Minami looks terrified. I feel for the kid, despite everything.

Soyou says, “If you don’t want to be taught, then get out.”  There’s a long pause again, then shes asks Hyewon to give it a shot. We’re reminded that Hyewon stepped up to be main rapper. She tries to say “Blackpink in your area,” but manages to give it the volume and enthusiasm you’d give the phrase “hey, can you pass me the salt?” while someone else is telling a story at the dinner table. 

Cheetah is trying not to lose her shit. 

She makes her do it again and she does it exactly the same every time, and every time she looks at Cheetah when she’s done, hoping for approval. Meanwhile, her attempts are so similar to each other that you could believe it’s just the same audio clip played over and over again, which, maybe it is. TS4 Universe Legacy Round 5

TL;DR

Summaries in play order

Chopra: Rashidah Watson and Rahul Chopra work hard to raise Owen (Rashidah and Rahul's son) and Penelope (Rahul's daughter from alien abduction) while living at home with Lavina. The toddlers both age up, Owen first, and then Penelope. Rahul earns a degree in Biology. Rahul and Rashidah get engaged. Lavina flirts with Meredith Roswell.

Villareal: Luna, Hugo and Max decide to hire an employee to help out at the shopping center. Max joins the Criminal Career, Hugo learns guitar and Luna makes out with Sofia Bjergsen.

Pancakes: Bob joins the Police Force while he and Eliza try (unsuccessfully) to have another baby. Malik is a goofball. Emery turns 13 and is Artistic.

Holiday: Summer Holiday, Liberty Lee and Travis Scott are still besties. Travis makes out with Gunther Munch and Raj Rasoya. Summer is in love with Eva Capricciosa and gets a promotion to Internet Personality.

Kang: Cecilia takes Fabio, her best boy, camping in Granite Falls. She invites Don Lothario over for some cuddles her last night there. Fabio aged up into an elder.

Goth: Mortimer purchases the café in town and renames it Café Bella. He also flirts with Megumi Ito randomly. Tessa (Bella and Mortimer's daughter) ages up into a child, followed by Whitney (Alexander's daughter from alien abduction). Cassandra learns she is pregnant with Salim Benali's baby.

Ito: Nanami moves out to San Myshuno at the beginning of the round. Megumi decides to make an enemy of Victor Feng. Naoki asks Megumi to have another child, but Megumi does not agree.

Bell: Vivian (now a ghost) enjoys possessing random objects. Biscuit the dog gets sick this round, so Michael takes him to the vet. Mason tries to become friends with Whitney Goth, but she seems to deeply dislike him.

Kim-Lewis: Olivia moves to Britechester to attend Foxbury at the start of the round. Alice fishes and paints. Eric and Alice fight constantly this round, resulting in a negative romance bar. At the Romance Festival, Alice kisses a townie and flirts with Cletus Harris in front of Eric. Alice asks Eric for a divorce. While still living together, Alice begins dating a townie. Eric gets a promotion to Investor.

Richards: Gavin gets promoted to Fan Favorite and finally opens his live-in bookstore. He barely makes any money this round. Jay Huntington dates all the women, including Liberty Lee, multiple townies, and Dina Caliente, who he has his daughter, Naomi, with. Jay starts thinking about moving out.

The Oasis Springs Apartments: Akira Kibo moves into an empty unit this round. He and Zoe Patel woohoo. Joaquin Le Chien learns to play the guitar and wants to study Culinary Arts at University. Joaquin's girlfriend, Nighat Caliente, proposes to Joaquin and he says yes. Akira rages a lot and randomly decides that he wants to date Jay Huntington.

Bheeda: Arun gets promoted to Development Captain at work. Bexley turns 13 this round. Fariq picks on Bexley, his big sister, constantly. Jesminder gets pregnant, giving birth to twins: Amar and Chandra. At the end of the round, Jesminder announces that she is once again expecting.

Akiyama: Nika turns 5 this round. Kado asks Jenna to have another baby and makes an enemy of Geoffrey Landgraab. Taku gets accepted into university and decides to start writing a book. Miki is promoted to Ensemble Author.

Markovic: While the past few rounds saw Mateo and Lucia growing apart, they rekindle their love for one another this round. However, Lucia continues to cheat on Mateo with Lilith Vatore. Tomi turns 20 this round and little Peter learns to talk. Liliana mostly just plays with her toys and loves science.

Watson: In between Rounds 4 and 5, Thomas and Rahmi got divorced autonomously. At the start of this round, Thomas buys a small home in Oasis Springs and Imran moves away to attend University. Maira has her hands full with her alien twins, Apollo and Benny. Rahmi asks Gideon Harris to be her boyfriend.

Caliente: After proposing to Joaquin Le Chien during his round, Nighat asks Don Lothario and Mitchell Kalani to move out. Dina's daughter, Naomi Huntington, turns 5 and rolls the Evil Trait. Don visits his daughter, Olivia, every single day. Nina makes a move on Cecelia Kang and is shot down, so Nina fights Cecilia. Jay Huntington and Dina continue to co-parent until Jay asks Dina to move with their daughter to San Myshuno with him.

Feng: Victor works on his oration skills by giving speeches all over San Myshuno. Lily gets a chance card that result in a hostile takeover of a local competing business. Caia hangs out with other teens and enjoys high school.

Landgraab: Poppy Landgraab brings her family closer together as they are all enamored with her. Malcolm turns 20 and gets a crush on Kerri Elderberry. He also decides to make amends with a long-time enemy, Thorne Bailey. This round Malcolm decides to join the Engineering Career and moves to The Culpepper Apartments in San Myshuno.

Munch: Wolfgang fights Don Lothario and gets promoted to Ring Leader. Mila works as a Detective and decides to start saving up to open a restaurant. Gunther decides to attend University while living at home next round to study Language and Literature.

Flex: Ulrike decides to go back to school to study Art History and Marcus is promoted to Rookie. Marcus starts to have doubts about his marriage, both wanting to move, as well as start a new relationship. Maaike attends Britechester University while living at home to earn a degree in Language & Literature. She plagiarizes a paper and gets caught.

Scott: Sara and Simon try to find a healthy balance between working at their bar, and caring for their four daughters. Remi turns 5 this round.

Lobo: Caleb moves in with Diego this round, but still visits Lillith and the kids every few days. Caleb and Diego get married in Tartosa.

Vatore: Having moved in with his husband, Diego Lobo, last round, Caleb comes to visit every few days. He lives down the road from the Vatores. Quest turns 13. Lilith continues to date Lucia Markovic, who is still married. They make it official. Stuart turns 20. Ravin turns 13 and begins to learn Vampire Skills from her mother, Lilith, and her father, Alika Kahananui.

Fyres: Moira works as a Detective and Dominic flirts with Maira Watson. Morgan romances Cassandra Goth.

Rocca: No longer able to afford the rent on Factory One, Eva, Paolo and Jade decide they will move out at the end of the round. Paolo is promoted to Bodybuilder and completes the Bodybuilder Aspiration. Eva flirts with a bartender named Kyla. At the end of the round. Paolo and Jade rent an apartment for themselves and little Daisy in the Culpepper Apartments in San Myshuno. Eva rents a single down the hall in the same building.

Behr: Candy works with Lennox to help him learn all of his toddler skills. Yuki joins the Engineering Career and hits on Judith Ward and Cecelia Kang. Lennox turns 5 years old. Candy has woohoo with Jeb Harris.

Bjergsen: Bjorn tries to be a better father to the girls. Darcy turns 13. Bjorn struggles to work his day job, as well as run Bjergsen's Furniture in the evenings and on weekends. He asks his friend, a townie named Reece, to be his boyfriend and is hurt when Reece tells him he is not interested in men. Sofia has her first kiss with Mila Munch and hits on Judith Ward.

Jeong: Venessa gets a makeover and gossips with her friends about Judith Ward leaving town. She applies to the University of Britechester to study Art History. She goes to an acting gig and has woohoo with Alexander Goth.

Rasoya: Raj asks Penny to have a baby with him but she wants to wait until they are married. A bad news story hurts Penny's public reputation. Raj maxes out the Gourmet Cooking Skills and is promoted to Celebrity Chef. Raj confesses to cheating on Penny with Don Lothario and Travis Scott. Penny breaks off their engagement and Raj rents and apartment in San Myshuno. After Raj leaves, Penny gets a job as an International Affairs Intern.

Bailey-Moon: Thorne walks with a new sense of purpose now that Judith Ward is gone. Octavia gets promoted to Fan Favorite. Orange graduates high school and decides to study Physics when he goes to University. Thorne and Octavia get pregnant. Havana turns 13, and Octavia gives birth to a baby girl, Nola.

Laurent: Greta moves to Britechester to attend University and Hilary rents an apartment in San Myshuno, no longer interested in working on her marriage with Hector. Jace has a crush on Olive Tinker and gets accepted to university. Hector tries, unsuccessfully, to win his wife back.

Sigworth: Christie is off to uni this round. Dylan and Jess make out a lot. Jess is promoted to Courageous Captain and Dylan works to earn a promotion at FutureSim Labs. Jess and Dylan try, but are unable to get pregnant after several tries.

Roswell: Ted and Meredith enjoy raising their children, and even rekindle the spark that had been missing from their relationship for so long. Isaiah turns 13, while the twins, Finnley and Evalyn turn 5. Meredith maxes out the Cooking Skill and tells Ted that she is pregnant. At the end of the round she gives birth to a son, Huxley.

Martin: Alice applies to university to study Art History and Mark decides he wants to earn a second degree.

Ito (2): Kaori turns 30 this round. Kiyoshi struggles with jealousy, and the couple gets pregnant.

Kealoha: Lilliana gives birth to a baby boy, Kai. Under Makoa's leadership as Conservation Director, Sulani is restored. Nani gets a crush on Quest Vatore.

Ojo: Miko loves her new career in Politics, and she applies to university. She starts dating Rohan Elderberry. Darling works as a Nature Historian and has woohoo with a very married Tina Tinker.

Kahananui: Mele finds out about Ravin and Lilith, and is furious with her husband. Despite their animosity, they manage to maintain a health woohoo life. Salem and Keoki both dislike their father, and Alika tries to intimidate them into respecting him. Alika wanders around at night, drinking from Sims and teaching Ravin Vampire secrets. Alika cheats on Mele with Lilith and Mele decides to become a doctor.

Ngata: Leila gets promoted to Color Theory Critic while Oliana is laid off. Elyse turns five years old. Leila and Oliana adopt another child, a baby named Helena. Tane starts dating Bexley Bheeda. Oliana joins the Civil Designer Career.

Benali: Salim asks Cassandra to move in with him with their baby, Niko. They plan of buying a bigger house in the next few years. Cassandra proposes to Salim and he accepts. Cassandra gets a job in the Doctor Career and Salim applies to university.

Jang: Billie turns 20 and decides she wants to be a professional dancer. She does a bunch of stuff naked. Baako and Anaya rekindle their romance and begin to repair their relationship.

Rasoya-Vega: Anya turns 13 this round. Geeta and Everett get engaged and move in together.

Romeo: Siobhan flirts with her neighbor, Kerri Elderberry in front of Sergio, causing him to acquire the Jealous Trait. Siobhan gets a promotion. Sergio and Siobhan go to a family gathering with the Fyres family. Morgan flirts with Sergio, causing Siobhan to fly into a rage.

Elderberry: Kerri joins the Scientist Career and Rohan joins the Writer Career this round. Rohan dates Miko Ojo and Kerri has a weird thing with Malcolm Landgraab. Rohan has shower woohoo with Geeta Rasoya-Vega.

Harris: Cletus quits his job so he can stay home to take care of Zachariah. Jeb becomes more Cheerful this round, but also gets Malcolm Landgraab as a work rival.

Tinker: Olive turns 20 years old and gets a job as an artist. She messes around with Jeb Harris, but turns him down repeatedly when he suggests taking things to the next level. After saving for the past few years, Tina and Yasemin finally have enough to purchase Evergreen Unique Gifts.

Kalani: After being kicked out by Nighat, Mitchell rents an apartment in Evergreen Harbor. He asks Nina Caliente to move in with him. Nina pulls pranks and decides she wants to start a new relationship.

The music video was filmed in June 26, 2010 until June 29, 2010 at Mall of Asia Arena, TV5 Media Center, SM Megamall, SM Aura Premier, Congressional Avenue, The Bell Church in Baguio, La Casas Filipinas, Pasig River Esplanade and Bonifacio Global City when the next generation of TV5 is arriving soon with new actors and new shows.

The theme will be produced by Filipino singer, songwriter, dancer, record producer, DJ, conductor, television host, actor, comedian and businessman Willie Revillame who will serve as the backing vocals of the theme song. However, The clips can also be used in the ABS-CBN Summer Station ID 2013 - "Halo-Halo ang Summer Saya" with the theme song "So Much More" by Willie Revillame which was originally from the Hot Wheels: World Race video game in 2003.

ok so, since I’ve taken a night stroll earlier tonight, i’ve decided that it’s a good time to repost here a fic i’ve made exactly 2 years ago (this time the fireflies are early lol)

i decided also not to edit this fic in any way because i thought i’d have ‘attacked’ the fic’s fluffiness, vibe and everything (although, now that i read it again, i might want to add some things…😏), so get it as it is, sentences that probably don’t make sense and incorrect grammar (you gotta get the whole deal)

summary: Alice takes a nice and relaxing night stroll, welcomed by the Island’s beach and a full Moon peeping out. (think of this moment as a separate thing and not in line with Dust’s timeline and events). the chapter is pretty short, and any doubts you might have will hopefully be cleared out in the tags

It was midnight, and Alice couldn’t sleep. She was on Tracy Island that day to spend some time with Virgil and the others, naturally after having entrusted her home in Los Angeles to a dear friend of hers. Now she didn’t notice the jet-lag, because she went back and forth as she liked between the US and Tracy Island, but she couldn’t sleep anyway that night.

She didn’t have any weird feelings or bad feelings. She just needed to get out a little bit, to get some air. She looked from out the window at the ceiling. As with every time she was in her room, the various constellations painted with fluorescent paint and the great White Moon welcomed and guarded her thoughts, and often even her worries.

That night he was in her room because she wanted to be alone to think; Virgil had fully approved, arguing that every now and then everyone needed to be alone to think. After all, during the afternoon they were completely alone cuddling lazily on his bed all the time, they had enough time for them.

Alice sighed deeply. Evidently not even her room was made to be alone to think that night. So she sat on the bed after having affectionately greeted with her eyes her stars, slipping the soft slippers to the feet. She wanted to get out and so she would.

Turning the abat-jour on the bedside table, which made a warm and faint yellow light around the room, she looked around to accustom her eyes to that little light, then she got up from her bed, heading towards the door leading to the closet, located not far from the en-suite bathroom and opposite the glass wall that led to the balcony.

She entered the small room, lighting the light there too, and then headed to a precise drawer and pull out her two-piece swimsuit, the one that Virgil loved so much. She took off her silk pajamas and black underwear, quickly but quietly putting on her costume, starting with her underwear and then slipping on her bra, quickly binding it just under her shoulders. Then she covered himself with the silk shawl that was part of the pajamas.

She turned off the light from the walk-in closet and went out, closing the door behind her. Then she changed the slippers with a pair of flip-flops, heading to turn off the abat-jour. She headed to the door holding the flip-flops in her hand. She didn’t need any noise now that everyone was asleep. She calmly opened the door and then left. She tiptoed down the hall, making sure not to make any noise. Luckily, the parquet floor underneath her did not creak, so her presence was not even felt.

She calmly went down the stairs and then proceeded to the living room. She was somewhat surprised when John did not appear as a hologram to greet her, though she expected it. Maybe he was asleep, like everyone else in the villa. She went to the kitchen to get a glass of water, and could clearly smell the chlorine in the pool first thing. She smiled a little and then drank the water in one breath.

Then she went out, clenched in her shawl, and was surprised to sense movement in the pool. At this time of night...?

Of course she knew it was about Gordon, and in fact her suspicions were immediately clarified when his twin brother pulled his head out of the water after a dive.

"Hey, you. Yes, right you." Alice whispered to Gordon, who looked at her surprised.

"I didn’t expect to find you up this late, Litchi. Can’t you sleep?" he whispered back.

"Don't call me Litchi." she murmured sternly. "No, I can’t sleep tonight, so I thought I’d take a stroll to the beach."

Gordon was about to replicate something, his glowing look of excitement, when Tiger, with a slight meowing, dived into the water right next to Gordon, who chuckled.

"Sometimes I seriously doubt he’s a cat." he said, pointing to the young tiger cat swimming comfortably in the pool, as if he were in its natural environment.

"True. It looks like he’s made for water. I’ve seen cats swimming like Tiger online, so it’s not totally impossible. Just hard to see." replied Alice, lifting her shoulders, and then lowering to put on her flip-flops.

"If you want, I can go down with you to the sea." Gordon whispered right away.

"If you want, yes."

"Then turn around. I have to put my boxers on."

"You mean you’ve bathed naked so far?" she whispered maliciously, then giggled, turning her back to her twin brother.

She immediately heard him coming out of the water, and when he whispered the ok she turned again.

"Nice abs, bro!" she whispered.

He rolled his eyes, but not after posing. "If Virgil hears you then he becomes jealous of me." When Alice rolled his eyes he continued. " I go inside to get a sweatshirt. If I’m not back in 5 minutes it means that Scott caught me."

She widened her eyes. " Scott is awake? But I haven’t met him at all!"

"I saw his room light go out just before I dived in. He retired recently, but that doesn’t mean he’s asleep. You have to be careful."

"Go then."

"Anyway, do you have the communicator?"

Alice nodded her head as she followed him into the living room. "How could I not have it? I wear it even when I sleep!" she whispered and then showed the bracelet that was on her wrist, so thin that it did not even look like a communicator.

"Wait for me outside." Gordon whispered, and Alice nodded on her way back to the pool, sitting on a deck chair nearby.

She could hear the crickets and the bubbling of an owl in the distance. She stopped to listen to that angelic sound for so long that she did not notice how much time had passed. When she looked at the wrist clock, she noticed that 15 minutes had passed. She got up from the deckchair and then walked a little, until she found a small underground path in front of her. Without thinking twice she took that path, arriving with some trouble at the beach in front of her. She headed toward the still warm sand and without thinking twice sat down on it, comforted by its warmth. She turned to put her black shawl on a rock in the pine forest, and what she saw at that moment took her breath away.

As she had walked in the woods to get to the beach she had never noticed the thousand fireflies that filled the trees with small lights, numerous and beautiful. They looked like stars came down to earth. Some of the bright insects even arrived on the beach, also illuminating the golden sand and, shortly after, the sea.

When she returned to the sand, this time to lie down on it, she realized that there was no moon in the sky. There were several stars bright enough but, although there was no cloud in the sky, the bright star had not yet made its appearance.

She sighed, and then stood up and walked safely to the water, leaving the flip-flops near the shawl and enjoying the sound of the sand creaking under her feet at every step she was taking. She began to immerse herself in the water little by little, comforted by the heat that was releasing from the sultry day just passed.

Everything looked different at night; even the living room of the villa was different at night. There was more room for nocturnal sounds, such as cicadas, crickets and owls, sounds that during the day could not be heard with various commitments. It was as if the world really took on life during the night, revealing this dark but charming side of her, or at least that’s what Alice has always thought since she was little. She liked to walk at night, she always liked it.

It was only when she arrived with the water up to her neck that she stopped. And she enjoyed the Moon that was beginning to peep out, reflecting on the water.
