"A cyanometer (from cyan and -meter) is an instrument for measuring "blueness", specifically the colour intensity of blue sky. It is attributed to Horace-Bénédict de Saussure and Alexander von Humboldt. It consists of squares of paper dyed in graduated shades of blue and arranged in a color circle or square that can be held up and compared to the color of the sky."

The most dangerous of all worldviews is that of people who have never looked at the world.

And Napoleon disliked him personally (from the Smithsonian):

And for what it is worth, he is also a link between the two brackets, as he was given honorary Mexican citizenship after Mexican independence because of his important scientific work.
Here's a statue of him in Mexico City:

"Cold war Experimental weapons.
Development of weapons and prototypes during the Cold War was a trend widely explored by Russians and Americans, with few proof of its existence being known to the public.
Fig1. Russian disintegrator ray AF-15. When fired, it eradicated all traces of the target in less than a second. Fig2. M -105 paralyzing gun developed by the American militia. It could immobilize a target for 36 hours."

The Germans need two hundred years for every stupid thing: a hundred years to commit it and a hundred years to realize it.

Alexander von Humboldt
Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt (14 September 1769 – 6 May 1859) was a German polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and proponent of Romantic philosophy and science. He was the younger brother of the Prussian minister, philosopher, and linguist Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767–1835). Humboldt's quantitative work on botanical geography laid the foundation for the field of biogeography, while his advocacy of long-term systematic geophysical measurement pioneered modern geomagnetic and meteorological monitoring. Humboldt and Carl Ritter are both regarded as the founders of modern geography as they established it as an independent scientific discipline.
