Die gefährlichste aller Weltanschauungen ist die der Leute, welche die Welt nie angeschaut haben.
The most dangerous worldview of all is that of those who have never looked at the world.
Alexander von Humboldt (1769 – 1859), German natural scientist, founder of empirical geography

Alright, from the University of Paris' virtual exhibition on the Humboldt brothers:

And Napoleon disliked him personally (from the Smithsonian):

And for what it is worth, he is also a link between the two brackets, as he was given honorary Mexican citizenship after Mexican independence because of his important scientific work.
Here's a statue of him in Mexico City:

"Cold war Experimental weapons.
Development of weapons and prototypes during the Cold War was a trend widely explored by Russians and Americans, with few proof of its existence being known to the public.
Fig1. Russian disintegrator ray AF-15. When fired, it eradicated all traces of the target in less than a second. Fig2. M -105 paralyzing gun developed by the American militia. It could immobilize a target for 36 hours."
cuidado que el tal artista Juan Osorno dedica al Tratado de Humbold unos contribuciones ficticios, tal vez para implicar su critica al projecto enciclopédico...

Schlegel: Fighting with my brother about which fruit would win if they were sentient and could fight.
Kleist: Obviously pineapple.
Achim: Except coconut would kick its ass...
Heine: Uh...have you seen a durian before?
Schiller: Dragonfruit is the obvious right answer.
Goethe: That's ridiculous. Pomegranate is known as "grenade" in many languages, e.g. "grenade" in French, "grenade apple" in Swedish...
Bettine: Grapefruit, duh.
Fichte: Obviously the kiwi, as it's the only fruit that can fly. I mean, how would you even fight back?
Humboldt: But kiwis don't fly. Neither the birds nor the fruit.
Tieck: Tomato obviously. It would be hanging out with the vegetables and no one would notice until the other fruits kill each other off, then it swoops in and claims victory.
Brentano: Pumpkins are pretty tough.
Eichendorff: Jackfruit. Have you ever seen those fuckers?
Kleist: CAN'T YOU SEE FRUIT VS. FRUIT BATTLES ARE TEARING US ALL APART?!?!?!?!?!
*everyone arguing*
Novalis: Grapes.
*everyone stops and looks in Novalis's direction*
Novalis: What? They're like a...little...purple...gang.

BOOKS TO READ SIDE-BY-SIDE:
The Invention of Nature: Alexander Von Humboldt's New World by Andrea Wulf.
"Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was the most famous scientist of his age, a visionary German naturalist and polymath whose discoveries forever changed the way we understand the natural world. Among his most revolutionary ideas was a radical conception of nature as a complex and interconnected global force that does not exist for the use of humankind alone [...] Brilliantly researched and stunningly written, The Invention of Nature reveals the myriad ways in which Humboldt’s ideas form the foundation of modern environmentalism—and reminds us why they are as prescient and vital as ever."
The Invention of Humboldt: On the Geopolitics of Knowledge edited by Mark Thurner and Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra.
"Contrary to the popular image of Humboldt as a solitary ‘adventurer’ and ‘hero of science’ surrounded by New World nature, The Invention of Humboldt demonstrates that the Baron’s opus and practice was largely derivative of the knowledge communities and archives of the Hispanic world. Although Humboldtian writing has invented a powerful cult that has served to erase the sources of his knowledge and practice, in truth Humboldt did not ‘invent nature,’ nor did he pioneer global science: he was the beneficiary of Iberian natural science and globalization [...] This book will reshape the landscape of Humboldt scholarship. It is essential reading for all those interested in Alexander von Humboldt, the Hispanic American enlightenment, and the global history of science and knowledge."
SHORT ARTICLE BONUS READING:
"Screw Humboldt" by Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra in Medium.
"Humboldt KNEW about all these maps and of Caldas’s innovations. Humboldt was pissed by Caldas’s much better command of accuracy in measurement and empirical mastery (Caldas irritated Humboldt by recalibrating the German’s instruments and pointing out his inaccuracies — Warning: Don’t try this on a Prussian). What did the great Prussian, anticolonialist, lover of birds do? Humboldt did not cite Caldas in his 'groundbreaking' 1806 Geography of Plants."

hej heh I can't even count how many times I was so hesitant to send this bc I'm shy as hell gulp. Okay I did read the bracket rules well apparently you can recommend fanfictions that has something to do with the contestants which is awesome!!
here we are and I honestly never expected Humboldt to make it pass those rounds!!!11 I'm even more surprised he's competing with Metternich!!
well that aside, I wanna recommend this ongoing fanfiction that is abt the classic humboldt/bonpland pairing!!
it is a long chronologically ordered fanfic that focuses on the latam exploration and also the events that happened before the exploration, it's a really great fanfic I think it deserves more kudos and love!! You guys will really like it heh, it's beautifully written that is almost accurate to the events and of course the pairing is so loveable! ^_^
Click here!! (Idk if that'll work) the author is also in Tumblr under the same name (LegereScriptor) go support and give them some love :D
They also made another fanfic about them Click here ! Both fanfics are in Deutsch btw
Thank you for sharing! (Danke für die Empfehlung!)
Tagging @legerescriptor so they're easy to find and support.
