Confinement [Alex's Finale] (Part 8/8)
Blood had been spilled and Kevin and Luke were now free to move on. It felt free for the first time in months. Whatever Luke had used to put an end to this had already been properly disposed of, and anything else had been planted to point to Marcus. I was able to clean myself up after going home, my mother had been worried sick and was shocked at my state. I told her I didn't know what had happened and woke up in the park nearby, which she ruled up to me grieving Luke's death which, she wasn't entirely wrong. It hadn't been long until Marcus was found dead in City Park in the same place Luke had been found. The news reported on the case, seems like the case was closed shortly after due to Luke covering our tracks though you never know what could happen in the future. A few months later Luke's family or well, Luke's dad, Travis, came over to give me some of Luke's old stuff like his rock collection, drawing supplies, old clothes, jewelry Luke made, and most importantly... The computer we built together. Luke and I weren't the best at tech but one summer we figured out how to slap together a computer (with the help of his dad) and got it to run. Luke was so excited so I let him keep it instead but I got it back today. Travis had always been welcoming of me in his home despite his wife having a different view I always considered him family like Luke and he seemed to have felt the same. I remember the hug he gave me after he told me he was moving away, honestly, I couldn't blame him for leaving. He and his wife had raised Luke together here in Denver for years so to stay in the same town his son had been killed in was most likely salt in the wound seeing the old places he used to take us on the weekends when he had time to drive us around. Travis had helped Luke figure out who he was (with my help of course :))) ) and even gave Luke the idea for his new name. Which was funny, since apparently, Luke's dad was the one who originally thought of my best friend's birth name. I took care of Luke's old things and even made a data base of the rocks Luke had on the computer while also filing new ones I found. I know Luke would have loved that so I do it in his memory. While I won't stop trying to achieve my dream of becoming a biologist I will always continue to honor Luke's memory until I one day die. Sometimes I think I see the computer turn on when I'm in the other room but I think it's the computer coming out of sleep mode or something. Dunno never was a tech guy but I try my best to keep it in the best condition I can. There was something I always wanted to admit to Luke when he was alive, and I'm pretty sure his dad could read me like a book LOL... Goodbye, Luke... I love you, Alex.

Once again, great things happen when the country music community comes together for a cause! Country For A Cause pulled out all the stops during their CMA Fest 2023 concert at Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley and raised $60,000 for Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Hosted by country legend T.G. Sheppard & Kelly Lang, along with Devon O’Day, an eclectic group of stellar performers, including Mark Wills, Wade Hayes, John Conlee, Paulette Carlson, Tim Atwood, Makenzie Phipps, Elizabeth Cook, Michelle Wright, Heath Wright of Ricochet, Terry McBride, Leon Everette, Brandon Davis, Jake Hoot, and Jamie O’Neal donated their time and talents to raise money to help children in health-related crisis. The evening didn’t come without several surprises including Alex Miller, T. Graham Brown, Jeannie Seely, John Schneider, John McEuen, Charlene Tilton, and a special tribute to Jeanne Pruett. The event was sponsored by Gus Arrendale and Springer Mountain Farms Chicken and the group of dynamic entertainers performed to a sold-out house for the fourth consecutive year. “We have always considered it an honor and pleasure to host Country For A Cause. It continues to succeed because of the efforts of Scott Sexton and the great board along with so many great friends and artists who have performed and given their time to support such a worthy cause. To say we are thankful is an understatement for all who have worked so hard.” – T.G. Sheppard and Kelly Lang “Our deepest appreciation goes to Scott Sexton, T.G. and Kelly Lang, and the entire Country For A Cause team for putting this amazing event together,” said Meredith “Mamie” Shepherd, program manager for Seacrest Studio at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. “Community events like Country For A Cause help advance our mission of compassionate patient care, groundbreaking research, and clinical training. We are so grateful to Country For A Cause for their steadfast support of this vital work.” “In its 9th year, Country For A Cause broke a fundraising record earlier this month as the country music community came together before a sold-out house at 3rd & Lindsley on behalf of fundraising efforts for Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. It takes hundreds of hours and multiple volunteers to make this event happen every year, but all involved with this organization understand the stress and helpless feelings families face when dealing with the illness of a child. If the money we raise helps with children’s medical research or assists with the treatment of a child in need, then every ounce of energy that we pour into this annual concert is worth it. Next year will be our tenth anniversary of our CMA week Country For A Cause concert, and we are setting the fundraising bar even higher!” – Sherri Forrest, President of Country For A Cause About Country For A Cause: Country For A Cause is an annual concert held just before the CMA Music Festival in Nashville. Artists who have performed throughout the years include Crystal Gayle, The Bellamy Brothers, Mark Wills, Ty Herndon, Doug Supernaw, Baillie and the Boys, Collin Raye, Billy Dean, Jeannie Seely, Jan Howard, John Rich, Ashton Shepherd, Leona Williams, Jody Miller, Lulu Roman, and countless others. In 2018, Country For A Cause teamed with Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt as the sole beneficiary of proceeds raised. Intro/Writing at the Cabin
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e73d024ce7a3a62efdc0d2939bd9082d/tumblr_inline_p3wa60GIAL1toszhb_500.jpg)
Hello all and welcome to what promises to possibly be maybe the best thing that has ever happened to the internet! Whether you know who we are or not, we’ve decided to start this Tumblr in an effort to give a glimpse into the unique life of being a musician. No, this won’t be like the documentaries and stories you’ve seen before about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. We are going to focus our behind the scenes life, especially the food.
We’ve noticed throughout the last 4 years of being a band that most of our friends and family are curious about what we are up to when not on stage or other aspects of the shows themselves. Obviously, the thrill of the show is what we live for, but there’s so much else involved.
When we tour, write, and rehearse, there is always an element of food and cooking thrown into the mix. Our producer Alex Jarvis (recent Grammy winner!) is originally from Toronto where he spent his late teens learning to cook in restaurants. Between Alex and our singer Elliot who also loves to cook, we tend to eat very well, even under odd circumstances.
So, throughout these posts, we will show you how we cook at parks across the country, shop in random markets or buy roadside produce with cash, and of course, play shows at amazing venues and festivals around the world. You’ll see us writing, recording demos, traveling, rehearsing, etc.
Let’s get to it…here’s what we’ve been up to the last couple of weeks! The second album is mastered, and we are in the stages of deciding a release date and planning our attack! Naturally, we decided to start writing again, back at the cabin of our manager’s long time friend. He’s the man and allows us to go an hour east of Nashville to write in the woods at his fantastic home away from home.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/23b59ea60ef8987b62627334718c37a8/tumblr_inline_p3wa5xYnvz1toszhb_500.jpg)
Top left to bottom right:
Here’s the room we make our setup in at the beginning of the week. We’ve made this excursion a handful of times and wrote almost all of our upcoming LP release here. Over the course of 2018 we will be writing all of our new music here, already got a couple in the bag from this particular trip that we are really excited for.
Elliot getting everything dialed in. Elliot went to college for audio engineering in Lexington, KY, and engineered the tracking of our first record Horizon Line in our old basement studio. Between Elliot and Jarvis, we have quite the duo of knob-turning creativity.
G on his Ludwig kit with Paiste cymbals. Last year Gianni was sponsored by Paiste, and we are all so proud to represent an amazing brand every time we play and record.
Austin’s lovely combo of Fender Deville and Princeton, they bring the crunchy.
Our Moog Sub Phatty and Roland System 8…with a view! Jarvis plays these and a few other toys on stage. Along with Jarvy’s creative direction, these keys have opened up a more mature, smooth sound for us that you’ll definitely notice on the upcoming record and our live shows.
Our incredibly talented friend Guthrie Brown came out to write with us. He is also featured on our upcoming LP, and if you haven’t checked out his music, you definitely should.
Here’s some food…

Homemade bread. Jarvis whipped up some hot loaves a couple times on the excursion.
Grilled cheese with cheddar and homemade tomato soup
Beef Madras Curry with bhartha eggplant, homemade roti and basmati rice

We cook over the fire often. Usually whole chickens, roasted veggies and peppers, etc. This particular roll of meat was the best sounding open fire experience we’ve had.
Pork Belly Porchetta with polenta, charred kale and chicken jus

We got a little weird and competitively stacked potatoes one night. Guthrie, being a Montana man, took to stackin’ like a squirrel takes to nuts. He’s single ladies…that’s 4-high he’s stackin’ there.
Come out and see us live in February and March! We will make another post about those tour dates and the food associated. Can’t wait to get the van between the mustard & mayo and see you all. We love you!

Nashville, Tennessee: Music City’s still got soul
For a medium-size US city, Nashville has an XXL reputation. Everybody thinks they know what it’s about: country music, the Grand Ole Opry, Johnny Cash, improbable dreams of stardom, cheesy ballads and rhinestone shirts.
But don’t be so sure, warned singer-songwriter and rising star Ben Danaher, during a gig at 3rd and Lindsley, one of the city’s many superb music venues. “Lots of dive bars are becoming karaokes,” he said, before dedicating a song, Silver Screen, to “all the hipsters”.
Road trips and fire pits: discovering the secrets of BBQ in Nashville Read more
His tone was gently ironic, the song full of feeling. Danaher (who is playing the Black Deer festival in Kent on 23 June) later told me he was alluding to “really gritty places that the blue-collar crowd would go to, that all of a sudden have a charm to hipsters”.
So gentrification is happening. Meanwhile, mass tourism has turned many of the honky tonks into fun pubs for boozy bachelorettes and preppy boys wanting to show how badly they can behave – for a weekend.

Similar forces are jolting many metropolises – but is there something fundamental at stake in “Music City”? I was here to find out, and headed first to the Gulch, a neighbourhood that used to be a dank ravine by the railway tracks but now has back-to-back restaurants and bars. Music venues The Mercy Lounge and The High Watt host nightly indie and cover bands – “karaoke” gigs, of a sort – but at The Station Inn, the Gulch’s surviving country music spot, open since 1974, I caught the tail end of Nashville’s annual songwriters festival, Tin Pan South.
The names on the bill meant nothing to me but the gig was all-acoustic, warm, intelligent – trad, but cool. As a finale, veteran performer Rory Bourke was asked to play one of his old songs. His speaking voice sounded hoarse and tired, but when he began to sing his biggest hit, The Most Beautiful Girl – yes, the one that starts with “Hey!” and which our mums and grandmas loved – he was back in his lyrical, lovelorn youth. We all were.
Open mic night at the Bluebird Cafe. Photograph: Alamy
That was a Nashville moment, catching the deeply familiar at its source (who knew this global hit came from a Nashville-based country songwriter?) and being moved. The gig also had me fantasising about becoming a singer-songwriter. It’s one of the consequences of visiting a city with genuine cultural clout: you want to become part of the scene, change your life. (My songs are still works in progress.)
This city and its skyline are changing fast. About $2bn of construction projects are under way
At the Bluebird Café, the most intimate of all Nashville’s musical experiences, I caught Danaher again, sharing the bill with three women singer-songwriters: Alex Kline, Erin Enderlin and Beth Nielsen Chapman. He has an earthy voice in the Ray LaMontagne mould, and had just finished a UK tour. (He’s back here in June.)
The performers sat in a circle, backs to the audience, trying out untested and proven numbers, by turns soulful and sarky (Kline’s White Trash Female – WTF has to be a hit, for someone).
It was a magical evening, and made me reflect on something that struck me at downtown’s Country Music Hall of Fame and museum: country is a genre that, for all its cowboy pretensions, has a history of strong women. From Kitty Wells, who proved women could sell records in the 1950s, to the footage of Wanda Jackson out-Elvising Presley on Hard-headed Woman, to Shania Twain’s establishment-shocking outfits. A week before my visit, Taylor Swift showed up unannounced at the Bluebird: she continues to break rules, as well as records. Country music is alive and well (and living in Nashville) – it’s just women who are leading the latest revival.

Another overlooked aspect of Music City is right behind the hall of fame: Hatch Show Print celebrates Nashville’s history as a centre for letterpress printing from the 1870s to the rock’n’roll era. Its walls are plastered with early flyers for Hank Williams and Dolly Parton. I was even invited to roll off my own little poster – it’s not great, but it’s better than my songs.
This city and its skyline – which inspired the title of Bob Dylan’s 1969 album – are changing fast. About $2bn of construction projects are under way. The handsome red-brick edifices along the Cumberland river cower beneath glass-and-steel towers including AT&T’s striking “Batman Building”, and 5,028 rooms are under construction at 33 new hotels.
The most stylish – if pricey – place to stay is The Noelle (doubles from $339), a 1930s art-deco beauty in pink Tennessee granite that reopened last year with a sultry cocktail bar and fab coffee shop. Near Printer’s Alley, its interior honours the design history I’d seen at Hatch.
Cranes clutter the backstreets. Not even the Ryman Auditorium – former home of the Grand Ole Opry – is exempt. By 2020, a luxury apartment tower will block the view of the gothic facade of this temple of country and cradle of bluegrass – which is still worth an hour of anyone’s time, not least to see Johnny Cash’s suit.

But there are subtler evolutions. In Pie Town, music – in the shape of Jack White’s Third Man record company, vinyl store and 1947 recording booth – combines with high-end retail. Central St Martins-trained Savannah Yarborough crafts bespoke leather garments at AtelierSavas. Any Old Iron, run by British designer (and former scrap dealer) Andrew Clancey makes sequinned suits, dresses and show clothes for Beyoncé and Kesha, among others.
“I moved here not for the music, but for the musicians,” says Clancey. “Many of them want to look more contemporary without having to go to New York or Los Angeles. With every genre recorded here, we felt we could offer something unique. Nashville’s fashion week has just had its eighth year – there wasn’t a stetson in sight.”

In the suburbs of Germantown, Five Points and the Nations, food is the motor of a more familiar metamorphosis, as pioneering restaurateurs – from veteran Margot McCormack (Margot Café, Marché Artisan Foods) to newcomers Bryan Lee Weaver (Butcher & Bee) and Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red) – challenge the hegemony of “hot chicken” and “meat and three” (for which I personally recommend Edley’s Bar-B-Que and Hattie B’s).
Five Points, in East Nashville, has a gritty-but-smart feel, with dreamy clapboard houses and Queen Anne mansions.
“There was a huge fire in 1916,” local guide Karen-Lee Ryan told me (she runs excellent Walk Eat Nashville tours). “Then the area was razed by a tornado in 1998 and again in the floods of 2010. The disasters were curse and catalyst. They brought the community together.”
Hattie B’s Hot Chicken – for a traditional taste of Nashville
Ryan puts the collaborative spirit down to music. “Sitting down with an instrument is a creative act. Musicians riff off each other. So do people in Nashville’s food scene. It’s not ‘I’m in my own silo and I don’t care what other people are doing.’”
So, will the skyscrapers wipe out that denim-blue sky? Probably. And will it also lose its vibe? That I doubt. As Ryan put it: “There can be many co-existing Nashvilles, whether that’s through art, music or food.”
And there can be many kinds of Nashville sound too, from Kacey Musgraves’ recent feminist alt-pop on Golden Hour to the rocking and rollicking in the honky tonks on the city’s Broadway, to “Hey! Did you happen to see …?”. And, even, to karaoke nights at the (surely not very hip) hipster bars.
“The music scene in the city is still very strong,” says Danaher. “Despite the changes, some of the dive bars are still home to the greatest guitarists doing residencies. There are way too many amazingly talented, driven people here for Nashville to risk losing its soul.”
Getting there
Flights were provided by British Airways, which has returns from Heathrow to Nashville from £668. British Airways Holidays offers flight and hotel packages, such as four nights at The Westin Nashville from £999.
Best time to visit Nashville is at its best in spring and autumn, with temperatures in the mid-20s. In summer, it’s hotter and more humid. Rainfall is low year-round. Try to combine a visit with a major music gathering, such as Tin Pan South in early April; CMA Music Fest from 7-10 June; or America Fest from 11-16 September. The Music City Food and Wine festival is from 14-16 September. Full list at visitmusiccity.com.

The Heart of the Mountain (TV Movie)
Signed, Sealed, Delivered star Kristin Booth is back in British Columbia for her latest project, The Heart of the Mountain. The movie is part of this year’s Winterfest original movie series from the Hallmark Channel which airs throughout January.
The story of The Heart of the Mountain was developed by Kristin and her husband Tim Ware. Tim also wrote the script for the movie, and Kristin is serving as the executive producer. Not much has been officially revealed about the plotline, however it looks like it will be a love story closely tied to skiing or snowboarding. The first couple days of production were spent at Mad Dog’s, a ski and snowboard shop on Montrose Avenue in downtown Abbotsford. Kristin also revealed via Instagram that the movie would be spending time filming at Manning Park Ski Resort, which is just off the Crowsnest Pass between Hope and Princeton.

It sounds like Kristin will make an appearance in the movie, but the stars are Kristy Swanson (Dude, Where’s My Car?, Psych) and Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Supergirl).
Kristy shared a behind the scenes look at the movie via her Instagram:

We’ll update this article if more information about The Heart of the Mountain is revealed. The Heart of the Mountain will continue filming in British Columbia until December 8th.
Frozen in Love (TV Movie)
Like The Heart of the Mountain, Frozen in Love is part of Hallmark’s Winterfest lineup that will be airing in January. Again, the storyline hasn’t been released, but it’s sure to be set in a winter wonderland. The production scouted the Revelstoke area, where Hallmark’s Marry Me at Christmas filmed earlier this year.
In an interview with Ruth Hill at My Devotional Thoughts, writer Rick Garman revealed that Frozen In Love will star Rachael Leigh Cook (She’s All That), and it’s a story based on her original idea. Rachael spent the month of June in British Columbia filming another Hallmark movie called Summer in the Vineyard. It was the follow-up to Autumn in the Vineyard, which also filmed in the province in 2015.
We’ll update this article if more information about Frozen in Love is revealed. Frozen in Love will continue filming in British Columbia until December 8th.

Confinement [Alex's POV] (Part 4/?)
I know where he is. You can't HIDE from me, Marcus. Luke and Kevin told me, though Luke's more on board with this than Kevin. I can understand why, to be honest, there was never a bad bone in Kevin's body. I mean he was 11 when he died so I doubt he had many bad thoughts besides maybe cheating on his homework like he used to XD But Luke? He had gone through so much. He never deserved the end he was given and he knows it. I want to avenge them and Luke wants this too. I'll be honest I thought I had gone insane when I started seeing him. I wished SO hard to see him one last time and suddenly he was there? Yeah right. There was no way. Yet I could feel him, SEE him. Almost like my hands were his own and when I felt my other hand it reminded me of those hands with calluses that were usually dirty from washing dirt rocks and mud from the various rocks I had brought him. But the changes they made to me... I know after this is all over I can never live how we all wanted to. There will be blood on my hands too, just like his. I don't care if that makes me as bad as he was to some people. I'm doing this for them... for... For him. You can't hide Marcus.
We'll find you. You sick freak.

Confinement [Alex's POV] (Part 1/?)
Hello, my name is Alex. I played Roblox with my friend group from 2019 to 2021, but unfortunately, the game ruined my life and that friend group.
We had five people in our friend group, all of our parents knew each other and were friends at some point. There was me, Ace, his brother Sebastian, the youngest Kevin, and my best friend Luke. I had known Luke since we were practically in diapers so I was the first person who knew anything about him even before he was a him. The first incident happened on May 13, 2019, when Kevin went missing. We hadn't seen or heard from him on Roblox which was VERY uncommon for him due to the game being his entire world at the time. (makes sense why he was failing lol XD) But we were all worried about him since I heard from my mom at the time Kevin's mom, Mary, was in contact with a detective and the police 24/7 due to Kevin's sudden disappearance. Kevin was like a little brother to Ace and he even tried to secretly help look for Kevin. Unfortunately though... Kevin was found dead in July on the 16th. I never got the full details but we knew it had been murder. Ace was never ok after that. I remember him breaking down after class blaming himself for not looking after Kevin better, but none of us could blame Ace for feeling bad. We all did. Why would someone do such a thing? Kevin was only 11. It took us all a while to get over Kevin actually being gone so for a while it was just me and Luke. We loved playing Natural Disaster together since it was actually Kevin who introduced us to the game before he... Yknow. I loved playing that game day and night with Luke. My favorite thing was finding ways to fling Luke across the map XD But other than that it was always fun, especially with him. Unfortunately for us hackers/exploiters were a common thing on natural disasters and it wasn't uncommon for them to torment servers if they so felt like it. But on March 1st, Luke met him. We didn't think much about this particular hacker at first and thought he was some bum who had nothing better to do but mess with some high schoolers on a kids game. But no. It's his fault. Marcus. You took him from me. He was MY best friend. YOU TOOK EVERYTHING FROM ME. YOU TOOK HIS LIFE AWAY. I still remember my mom rushing me out of bed to see the news channel and the call my mom made to Luke's mom that day. He was found dead at the City Park stabbed several times. How long had he been held by him? How long did Luke scream out for someone, anyone to help him? I should have come to save him. There... There was so much I never got to tell him. Luke.. I'm so sorry...
