UNIVERSAL EAR studios return to Bourges for exhibition & book launch
The UNIVERSAL EAR studio is back in Bourges and preparing for our biggest exhibition yet (and shooting Aleksandra Niemczyk's new movie)!
The exhibition takes place from November 16th-December 2nd and will include the unveiling of the newest, biggest, most foolhardy episode to date: THE CURSE OF THE PHANTOM TYMPANUM. It is part of Rencontres Bandits-Mages 2018 - *Mending the Fabric of the World: Unstable Reality and Shifting Knowledges*, which promises to be a fabulous event.
The first UNIVERSAL EAR book will also be available in a TEMPORALLY LIMITED EDITION, for 21 days only!
We'll keep you involved here, but you can also follow and respond on our other platforms:
Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/universalear/
Twitter: https://twitter.com/UNIVERSAL_EAR
ALL NEW Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alltheworldsmusicever/
Or drop by to our studio & eventual exhibition space at Le Haïdouc to say Bonjour.

It is not easy nowadays to be an artist. It never has been, but there is a way we can support artists who put everything they have into their work without receiving external funding.
Tao films (tao-films.com) seeks to support filmmakers so that they can continue their work. You can help by signing up and watching their films. Two-thirds of our income goes directly to the featured filmmakers. tao films is about more than just watching a film. It is also about establishing a link between viewer and filmmaker, a community that helps make these films come to life.
Until the end of March, you can support filmmakers Scott Barley, Nasos Karabelas, Aleksandra Niemczyk, Liryc Paolo de la Cruz, Sorayos Minimal Prapapan, Virginie Le Borgne and Ozal Emier. If you want to help us help our filmmakers, please support us by dropping by and/or sharing the message as widely as you can. Thank you!

“First, a black screen with a woman’s whisper in the background. Then, a naked man with a horse-shaped head walking towards the camera. Aleksandra Niemczyk’s film begins obscure, almost otherworldly. It poses questions the film may or may not be able to answer in its forty minute running time. Vlado, a man in his late forties or early fifties, struggles to cope with polio. He is paralysed from the waist down and is dependent on his younger wife. He is humiliated, loses all interest and is ready to give up. Alma, however, goes through more and more pain as her husband is struggling a bit more every day and inadvertently pushes her away. What remains are long, painful scenes; scenes of Vlado making his way from his flat to the exit of the building, alongside a balcony-type structure. Sitting on one chair, he uses a second in order to lift himself over, and gain a few metres under the watchful eyes of a neighbour across the street.
A film.factory graduate, Aleksandra Niemczyk uses her photographic eye for stunning shots. Her aesthetics reinforce the narrative in a way that is evident but not overdone. The long, slow and static takes perfectly illuminate the stagnation of the relationship between Vlado and Alma, both literally and metaphorically. And then there is the Centaur, half-horse, half-man, which appears time and again. Centaur is a truly intriguing piece, mentored by Béla Tarr.“
Watch Aleksandra Niemczyk’s film.factory film CENTAUR, mentored by Béla Tarr, now on tao films! https://tao-films.com/film/centaur

Audience, please give a round of applause for the latest episode of…
Indie Beat!
On today’s ‘cast we have filmmaker Aleksandra Niemczyk, a former student of Bela Tarr‘s Film Factory in Sarajevo.
Aleksandra started her work as a painter before eventually turning to cinema. One of her first shorts, “Hide and Seek,” is an unsettling horror-tinged art film about two young girls who play the titular game in an abandoned house.
