DAVID TENNANT ROLES STARTERPACK
(Different roles, where to find them and what they're like!!!) (+ more that I didn't go into included at the end)
*disclaimer: this is sort of UK orientated, 'cos I don't know any American streaming services or where stuff is available in other countries, so PLEASE comment other places you can watch things!!!!
- Takin' Over the Asylum (CAMPBELL BAIN)
Follows a DJ and a group of patients trying to keep a radio station going in a mental hospital. David plays one of the main characters, Campbell Bain, a mostly upbeat and energetic young boy with lots of enthusiasm and spirit. Some angst!
☆ YOUTUBE (free)
- Blackpool (PETER CARLISLE)
A body is found in an arcade run by Ripley Holden, and him and his entire family are pulled into the murder investigation surrounding it. DI Peter Carlisle is working on the case, and highly suspicious of Ripley. He's a pretty major character and has a romantic plot - as well as a few funny musical numbers. Includes sex scenes.
☆ UKTV PLAY (free in UK), AMAZON PRIME VIDEO
- Casanova (GIACOMO CASANOVA)
The (mostly sexual) adventures of Giacomo Casanova, a charming and fraudulent man who falls in love very quickly and very dramatically with a lot of people, all while essentially bullshitting through life and jumping on every opportunity to make money. Includes sex scenes but also angst, such as illness, injuries, some violence, and general suffering.
☆ MYFLIXERX.TO (free), AMAZON
- Recovery (ALAN HAMILTON)
A man and his family coping with the recovery and rehabilitation process after he (Alan, David Tennant) suffers from brain damage. Angsty. Lots of crying, suicide references, head injury stuff.
☆ YOUTUBE (free)
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (BARTY CROUCH JR)
I recommend pirating this one so you're not supporting JK Rowling. DT plays Barty Crouch JR, an antagonist and the son of Barty Crouch. He's kind of a minor character, as he's not actually in a lot of scenes.
☆ Probably on most pirating sites (my go to is MYFLIXERX.TO)
- Learners (CHRISTOPHER ??)
Lighthearted movie about a woman trying to pass her driving test. David plays Chris, her driving instructor. He's a bit of a dork, very sweet and kind. Has a love plot, briefly fights a guy. No major angst.
☆ YOUTUBE (free)
- Hamlet (HAMLET)
Hamlet. Prince of Denmark wants vengeance after his father's death. I haven't actually watched this one yet but I assume it's got the same amount of angst and drama as Hamlet typically does.
☆ AMAZON PRIME VIDEO
- Single Father (DAVE TYLER)
After a fatal car accident, Dave Tyler (DT) is left to parent four children on his own. Still struggling through grief, Dave falls in love again and attempts to hide it. Has LOTS of crying, lots of kissing, sex scenes, DT being miserable and sobbing, etc.
☆ MYFLIXERX.TO (free)
- Rex Is Not Your Lawyer (REX ALEXANDER)
Unaired pilot. Only 40 minutes. Show wasn't picked up, but it is very good. Rex is a successful and skilled lawyer who is forced to stop practising when he starts having panic attacks every time he speaks in court. He decides instead to coach people who want to represent themselves. Lots of DT in very tight suits. American accent. Not MAJOR angst but he does has daddy issues and a panic disorder, so.
☆ YOUTUBE (free)
- Fright Night (PETER VINCENT)
A kid discovers that his neighbour is a vampire, and he seeks out a famous vampire slayer to help him. Peter Vincent (DT) does not live up to his name, and turns out to actually be sort of pathetic. No major angst, not a lot of clothes, no romance, but lots of eyeliner. He's very bisexual. Violence, vampire horror, creepy neighbour.
☆ DISNEY+, AMAZON PRIME
- The Decoy Bride (JAMES ARBER)
Celebrity Lara Tyler tries to get married to her author fiancé James Arber, but the paparazzi interrupts the wedding. Desperate to keep it private, she takes James to the island that he based his book on. Somehow, the paparazzi still find them, and they hire a decoy bride to pretend to be Lara. Romance, kissing, light hearted, minimal angst. David in a funny outfit. Fake dating trope?
☆ AMAZON PRIME
- Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger (Donald and Roderick Peterson)
Sequel to Nativity, but you don't need to watch the first one. Primary school teacher Donald Peterson (DT) is forced to take his class to Wales to participate in A Song For Christmas, a festive singing competition. Here he is put against his twin brother, who is a successful composer and with whom he has a strained relationship. Light angst - lots of daddy issues, but generally sweet.
☆ AMAZON, I think its on NOW TV???
- The Escape Artist (WILL BURTON)
A defence lawyer, Will Burton, gets a murderer off free, and very quickly grows to regret it, when his client comes after his family next. Lots of murder. Like three murders I think. Hot lawyer DT.
☆ AMAZON (I can't believe I forgot this one)
- What We Did On Our Holiday (DOUG MCLEOD)
A family go to Scotland for their grandfather's 70th birthday. Doug (DT) and his wife (Rosamund Pike) are getting a divorce, but are hiding it from the rest of the family. Movie is mostly focused on the kids and their grandad, but David has a few moments, and he's generally present throughout. Funny, slightly shocking at times, family film. No major angst. Character death.
☆ AMAZON PRIME
- Richard II (RICHARD II)
Shakespeare's Richard II. David plays the titular character, the extravagant, heartless and cold King of England, Richard II. We see his fall from grace as he is stripped of everything he owns and knows. Quite angsty. Long hair, androgynous David. Queer kiss scene (although they are cousins, soo...)
☆ you can find a link in a REDDIT comment if you search for it, AMAZON PRIME
- Broadchurch (ALEC HARDY)
An eleven-year-old boy is murdered in a small town, sending shock-waves through the community. Story follows both the family and communities response to the crime, as well as the investigation done by DI Alec Hardy (DT) and DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Coleman). Lots of angst from Alec. He is sick and hiding it. Injury, dizziness, panic attacks, that sort of thing - as well as a heart attack. He has a lot of trauma and daddy issues. Season three touches on topics of rape (warning).
- Mad To Be Normal (RD LIANG)
Biopic about RD Liang, a Scottish psychiatrist. Sex, misogyny, mental health topics, some self-harm (done by another character)
☆ AMAZON (sensing a pattern)
- Good Omens (CROWLEY)
An angel (Michael Sheen) and a demon work together to stop the end of the world. Queer romance (canon), some angst. Drama, comedy, LGBTQ+. David plays Crowley, the demon (who "sauntered vaguely downwards" rather than fell from heaven)
☆ AMAZON PRIME
- Staged (DAVID TENNANT)
A COVID lockdown comedy about David Tennant and Michael Sheen talking via Zoom during the lockdown. Actually quite sad at times? Mostly silly, though. Features Georgia Tennant and Anna Lundberg.
☆ BBC Iplayer (UK) (or VPN)
- Around The World in 80 Days (PHILEAS FOGG)
Phileas Fogg, a quiet and reserved man, decides to travel around the world in 80 days, after he receives an anonymous postcard calling him a coward. Cute found family, drama, angst (ex-lover stuff, internalised cowardice, illness, near death experience), some violence. There's a scene where Phileas gets flogged (whipped, essentially) quite violently, and it's somewhat graphic. Touches on themes of racism. Phileas is 100% neurodivergent.
☆ BBC Iplayer (UK) (or VPN)
- Inside Man (HARRY WATLING)
DT plays a vicar, Harry, who is involved in a murder after trying to protect his son - who was accused of having CP. Suicide themes, murder, self-harm - explores the idea that any person can murder, if they're pushed the right way. Includes topics to do with CP and pedophilia.
☆ NETFLIX, AMAZON
- Litvinenko (LITVINENKO)
Biopic about Alexander Litvinenko. A group of detectives investigate the poisoning of Litvinenko. David is bald in this show. (Scary)
☆ ITVX (UK) (or VPN)
- Doctor who (10TH AND 14TH DOCTORS)
Do I need to explain Doctor Who???? David Tennant plays the tenth and fourteenth regenerations of The Doctor, a Time Lord from outerspace. He travels around in the TARDIS with human companions.
☆ BBC Iplayer (UK)
I think I'm gonna leave it there, but there are a LOT that I have not touched on. This post is a very accurate and long list of everything on DT's filmography, so i recommend you check that out.
Other things I didn't mention (off the top of my head):
There She Goes, Bad Samaritan, Einstein and Eddington, Rab. C Nesbitt, Bright Young Things, LA Without a Map, Much Ado About Nothing, Duck Patrol, True Love, Gracepoint, Camping (US), Nan's Christmas Carol, Mary Queen of Scots, (You, Me and Him), Secret Smile, Deadwater Fell, Jessica Jones, Dramarama, Spies of Warsaw, AND A LOT MORE. (+ voice acting roles, and also his narrating work on Spy In The Wild (2017)

One of the primary issues with traditional dyeing methods is their water consumption. The fashion industry uses roughly five trillion liters of water annually just for dyeing, as reported by the World Resources Institute. This enormous volume translates to a staggering 20% of the world's industrial water pollution, impairing ecosystems and draining precious underground water supplies.
Environmental activists and tech innovators are now rallying to address these pressing concerns, focusing particularly on more sustainable dyeing practices. A promising example is the UK-based start-up, Alchemie Technology, which recently unveiled its revolutionary digital dyeing process aimed at drastically reducing water usage and waste generation.
Dr. Alan Hudd, the founder of Alchemie, explained how traditional dyeing methods, which involve bathing fabrics in hot water with dyes for several hours, generate massive volumes of toxic wastewater—30 tons for just one ton of dyed polyester. The outmoded practices, originating from the cotton mills of 175 years ago, are ripe for disruption.
Alchemie's solution, named Endeavour, employs state-of-the-art technology to redefine the dyeing process. By mimicking the principles of inkjet printing, this machine applies dye with incredible precision and speed, emitting around 1.2 billion droplets of dye per linear meter of fabric. It can compress the traditional dyeing, drying, and fixing phases significantly, thereby reducing water consumption by about 95% and energy usage by up to 85%.
This innovative approach is not only faster but also allows for more vibrant colors with less environmental impact. "What we're effectively doing is placing very small drops of dye precisely onto the fabric, and we can switch these drops on and off, just like flipping a light switch," Dr. Hudd elaborated.

Had you played TV cliché bingo while watching The Couple Next Door, I do believe sparks would have been flying from your dabber. I’m almost in awe that so many were crammed in before the first ad break alone. Barely seven minutes in, Becka (Jessica De Gouw) and Danny (Sam Heughan) were pulling each other’s clothes off and having sex at their living room window, curtains open, in a way that no married couple whose small child has just left the room ever do. Except in TV La-La land.
It was a bonus, though, for Alan the Pervert (Hugh Dennis), who has a telescope trained on their house and dark circles under his eyes that suggest he does a lot of squinting while hunched over his computer (and I don’t mean at Wordle).
I suppose at least this drama owns its clichés. What am I saying? It revels in them. It opened with the classic taster of horror to come, Eleanor Tomlinson as Evie running in what we shall call TV’s “sexy terrified” way. That is, frightened but looking hot, hot, hot in a short silk nightie as she ran barefoot through a forest. We then flipped back in time to Evie and Pete (Alfred Enoch) happily arriving at their new suburban idyll to start their family, which was a sort of sunny Wisteria Lane and not at all like the Leeds I remember from when I lived there.
youtube
It told us everything was too smug to be true by having laughing children playing with water guns, lawns being mowed, cars being washed. Uh-oh. We know that can’t last. And it didn’t. Evie miscarried her baby (conceived with a donor because Pete has “puny sperm”) by minute 16. I have a terrible feeling that the koi carp in the garden are some sort of “swimmers” metaphor.
Sometimes the dialogue was so stilted, I wondered if it was a spoof. “You guys will get through this,” Danny said to Pete, who should really have responded by asking if he was a chatbot. It soon transpired that Danny and Becka were swingers (it’s based on a Dutch series called, yes, The Swingers) and they promptly had “that couple we met in Marbella” round for some wife swapping as Pete watched from his window. Has anyone in this street ever considered closing a blind? And, actually, aren’t they “the couple opposite”, not “next door”?
There’s a dull subplot about Danny being a dodgy copper, which ties in to a dull investigation that local journalist Pete wants to look into, but his editor wants him to cover the opening of a new city library. A new library? Pull the other one. The UK has closed about 800 of them in the past decade.
At least Evie cheered up when she got Danny’s powerful beast between her legs. Oh, I mean his motorbike, though it’s obvious it won’t be long before the other beast comes into play. I feared we might get to the end of the episode without it committing the top TV cliché on the bingo card, namely spontaneous sex on a kitchen worktop. But, no. Evie and Pete gave us a full house by doing exactly that — and during a storm for added cheesiness.
These couples are as wooden as Dutch clogs, but I am enjoying Dennis’s greasy performance as the disgusting stalker who pretends to like yoga so he can be near Becka. I must warn you that later in the series it’s traumatic to see the man who played the nice dad in Outnumbered masturbating. I must also warn you that episode two contains some of the worst cringey couple dancing you are likely to witness in your lifetime. I think the moral of this silly but entertainingly corny tale is going to be: “Don’t shag the neighbours.”

Crimes That Shook Britain (Wales)
Murder of Rebecca Aylward On 25 October 2010, Rebecca Aylward, 15, awoke on 6am, did her make-up, put on new clothes. She was excited about meeting ex-boyfriend Joshua Davies, 16, hoping they'd rekindle their relationship.
But Davies hated Rebecca. With mates he met on Sundays for breakfast, he'd discussed ways to kill her - poisoning, drowning, pushing her off a cliff.
In the end, that rainy morning, Davies lured her to secluded woods near Aberkenfig, Bridgend, and hit her over the head with a rock. Rebecca's distraught family reported her missing and her body was found the next day.
And Joshua Davies was arrested. His murder trial heard he'd killed Rebecca over a bet for a free breakfast. A mate had said he'd buy him a 'Full English' if he carried out his threats. Davies was convicted, jailed for life to serve a minimum term of 14 years in prison.
In 2018, Davies finally admitted to the murder to prison officers.
Murder of Karen Price In 1989, workmen found a rolled-up carpet while digging up a garden in Cardiff's Riverside area. Inside were the remains of a girl. Forensic experts made a clay reconstruction of the girl's head, identifying her as Karen Price, 15, who'd disappeared from a children's home in July 1981.
Back then, the basement flat where her body had been found was occupied by Alan Charlton. In 1991, Charlton and another man, Idris Ali - accused of being Karen's pimp - were convicted of her murder.
The trial heard that Charlton had killed Karen when she refused to perform sex acts, while Ali helped bury her body. In 1994, Ali successfully appealed, pleaded guilty to manslaughter at his retrial, and was freed. Charlton has made several appeals against his conviction. All have been dismissed and he remains in jail.
Ian Watkins In December 2012, Ian Watkins - lead singer of award-winning band Lostprophets, with 3.5m album sales worldwide - was arrested on charges of child abuse.
As the case unfolded, horrifying details emerged Watkins seduced female fans he met online and manipulated them until they allowed him to use their children to fulfil his depraved sex fantasies.
In November 2013, Watkins was jailed for 35 years after admitting a string of child sex offenses, including attempted rape of a baby and sexually abusing children His two co-defendants - the two mothers of children he abused - were jailed for 14 and 17 years. The judge Mr Justice Royce, said the case 'plunged into new depths of depravity.'
Murder of April Jones April Jones, just 5 years old, disappeared on 1 October 2012, while playing on her bike near her home in Machynlleth, Wales.
April's friend said she'd willingly got into a car with a man. Her hysterical parents Coral and Paul called the police, sparking the largest search in UK policing history. Within hours, media appeals were made and April's photo hit global news.
Police set up roadblocks, hundreds of volunteers searched and, the next evening, local Mark Bridger, 46, was arrested. The desperate search for April continued. After five days, Bridger was charged with April's abduction and murder. Her body was never found.
At Bridger's April 2013 trial, it emerged that tiny burnt bone pieces were found in his fireplace, and that blood in his cottage living room matched April's DNA. Bridger was convicted of abducting and murdering April and jailed for life.
Murder of Ffion Wyn Roberts Ffion Wyn Roberts' body was found in a drainage ditch behind her Porthmadog home in April 2010. She'd last been seen alive enjoying a night out with family and friends.
Detectives launched a massive murder hunt and, eight weeks later, arrested local lestyn Davies at his workplace, a wool factory close to Ffion's home. Davies was known to Ffion's family.
Davies' murder trial heard he'd attacked Ffion, 22, as she made her way home. He'd beaten her, strangled her with her own scarf and left the care worker to drown in the ditch. DNA traces were found on the scarf and Davies was captured on CCTV in the area at the time she was killed. He was found guilty, jailed for life, with a minimum 25-year term.
John Cooper In December 1985, farmer Richard Thomas, 58, and his sister Helen, 56, were shot dead, and their home near Milford Haven set alight. In June 1989, couple Peter and Gwenda Dixon, 51 and 52, were shot dead on a coastal path. They'd been tied up and robber, Gwenda sexually assaulted.
Then, in March 1996, five Milford Haven teens were held at gunpoint. One girl, 16, was raped at knifepoint, another, 15, indecently assaulted. Police long suspected a local convicted burglar, John Cooper, who was finally charged in 2011 on a review of DNA evidence.
Convicted of four murders, five attempted robberies, rape and indecent assault, he was given a whole-life sentence. An appeal against the conviction was rejected in 2012.

Hello! I would like to ask two questions, actually.
From what I can judge, you seem to enjoy watching and reviewing movies. Do you also watch TV series sometimes and if yes, what are the ones you would say are genuinely worth watching? (except Succession, and I also know that shows like Mad Men, Sopranos and the Wire are considered to be some of the prime TV examples.)
What are your favorite old Hollywood classics?
Thank you!
Howdy,
I can see from looking at your blog that you like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and I really can't think of any better-realized shows than those. Their creators really stuck the landing and told a perfect, clear story from the beginning to the end, which is where most other shows seem to fall down: the first 4 seasons of Game of Thrones might be the best TV show ever made, but the last 2 or 3 might be the very worst; the same goes for Rick & Morty (first 4 seasons perfect, last couple a disaster). The Simpsons was the best show on TV for the first 13 or so seasons, but has been a dull and unfunny walking corpse of its former self for over two decades now, which is terrible to see. South Park was at the very peak of human achievement in that medium for over 20 years, but then hit a very tiresome and uneven patch a few years back and hasn't really recovered, though it's always worth a look. The first 3 seasons of Arrested Development are perfection; the last two are dismal. The first season of True Detective is mostly excellent; the rest just get worse and worse. So decline in quality is probably the greatest issue with even the greatest shows, particularly in America, where the makers tend to view a hit show as a cash cow they can keep on milking until it dies, rather than a story needing telling with a beginning, middle and end, like a good film or a book.
I never really clicked with Mad Men: I had an ex-girlfriend who was hooked on it, and I tried to watch a couple of episodes with her, but I just couldn't connect. I could see that it did a nice job of recreating the physical details of the era in which it was set, but was completely anachronistic in its depiction of the people, their words, actions and motivations, none of which seemed at all real to me, and all clearly in the service of creating some very clumsy feminist strawmen to attack, while also perversely reveling in it. In some ways it seemed to me a test run for The Handmaid's Tale (or 50 Shades of Grey); a fetishization of real-or-imagined female victimhood, consumed overwhelmingly by women who found a strange mix of pleasure in the pretty clothes and smartly dressed aloof, boorish and powerful men they delight in hating but secretly want to bang. I can see some people must have felt they found more than that in it, but I just don't seem to be the audience for it.
My favourite shows in recent years have been Inside No. 9, Rick & Morty and Black Mirror, though the quality of all of them has become much more patchy. Get Shorty is not at that level but very enjoyable. Curb Your Enthusiasm has remained consistently slight but fun. The White Lotus and Enlightened are both good.
Further back I would list Extras, The Office (the original UK show) and Life's Too Short, all perfectly realized from start to end. Same goes for Spaced, Father Ted and I'm Alan Partridge. Northern Exposure and Buffy The Vampire Slayer are both wondrous and unique, though the last season of each goes downhill. I loved Community (first 3 seasons) and Louie. Then obviously things like the original Twilight Zone and Star Trek. I really enjoyed Lena Dunham's Girls, too, though I haven't gone back to rewatch it.
There are too many great films from the past to list, but if I were to try recommend some of the classics to people unfamiliar with anything before their own schooldays, off the top of my head I would probably say Sunset Blvd (1950), The Third Man (1949), The Night Of The Hunter (1955), His Girl Friday (1940), It Happened One Night (1934), The Ladykillers (1955), North by Northwest (1959), Le Plaisir (1952), The Kid (1921), The Gold Rush (1925), City Lights (1930), The Last Command (1928), and Black Narcissus (1947). All of them are strikingly original and perfectly-realized stories that satisfy in a way all films should but almost all present-day films are incapable of doing.

Music History Today: June 14, 2023
June 14, 1961: Culture Club's lead singer, Boy George, was born George Alan O'Dowd in Eltham, London, England. Despite being part of the large working-class Irish brood, George claims he had a lonely childhood, referring to himself as the "pink sheep" of the family. To stand out in the male-dominated household, George created his image.
The New Romantic Movement emerged in the UK in the 1980s—followers dressed in 19th-century English Romantic period caricatures, including exaggerated upscale hairstyles and fashion statements. Men typically wore androgynous clothing and makeup, such as eyeliner.
The style became a calling card for George, who formed a group and called it Culture Club. The third single from their debut album, Kissing To Be Clever, - "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" - reached the Number 1 spot in 16 countries. They were the first group since the Beatles to have three songs from their debut album become top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

I researched Alan Turing last spring and it made me so fucking emotional. Like this feeling of... rich metaphysical kinship. Connection across time and space. Comradery transcending the tangible.
Alan Turing (1912-1954) invented the computer as we know it -- binary code -- and saved countless lives on the Allied powers during WWII. It got out that he was a homosexual sometime after and he spent the rest of his life chemically castrated and under close surveillance by the UK government. His death was ruled a suicide, but his mother & family members protested this due to some plausible deniability.
You know that story. But that’s not the part of the story that made me emotional. Not in the way I’m talking about.
Alan Turing loved Snow White. The Disney movie came out during his lifetime and he was fucking infatuated with it, sparking a fondness for animation. He was endlessly captivated by the poison apple and its symbolism.
Did you know that? Do you love Snow White? Alan Turing, the gay man we have to thank for every core structure of most modern societies, loved Snow White. You two loved Snow White. He loved Snow White and you loved Snow White. Y’all loved Snow White. Have you ever pondered the symbolism behind the Snow White poison apple? Turing would go on if you got him talking about the fucking poison apple from Snow White, nerding out over its purpose representing the duality of life and death, fixated on the scene where Snow White bites into it.
Alan Turing was considered a genius and attended many pristine schools. His schoolteachers were often irked by his “careless” tendencies, wearing loose-fitting casual wear rather than his uniforms and skipping assignments.
Do you have ADHD and/or autism? Because if you do, I’d wager you’re familiar with skipping school work and wearing loose sweatpants and sweatshirts on a day-to-day basis. Alan Turing did that. You and Alan Turing skipped assignments and were told you could be more if you only worked harder (gifted kids can I get a woot woot...). You and Alan Turing wore the comfort clothes that you fucking wanted, damned be all. Y’all were neurodivergent in the school system.
Alan Turing had never cared for studying the classics and philosophy, which was an expected standard in British culture at the time, and was instead enamored with the sciences and mathematics. He neglected the former and didn’t pay attention during the lessons. He was ridiculed, scolded, and looked down upon for this. He had a stern talking to every now and then from various teachers to not waste his time with his interests, which were regarded as less respectable at the time, nowhere near the height at which Western culture holds them today.
Do you love mathematics or the sciences? More so than the classics like Aristotle perhaps? Alan Turing did. Philosophy bored him to death. Ever spaced out during lessons that didn’t interest you? Have people who are supposed to help you grow ever stifled your unpopular interests? Alan Turing underwent that. You two loved maths or sciences, you two know what it’s like to love a shunned subject and be discouraged from it by others at every turn, you two know what’s like to be unable to get your brain engaged with a subject you couldn’t care less for. You and Alan Turing.
But apple boy learned to be better about tending to the classics in school through his teenage friend and first love, Christopher Morcom. The two were brilliant students who bonded over their affinity for maths and sciences, feelings of alienation from peers, and blazing spirits of rebellion. They became inseparable and got into Teen Boy Hijinks But Nerdy & Autistic in school, like class fucking clowns but neurodivergent and highly intelligent.
Were you a class clown? Had yourself a childhood crushie, perhaps on a class clown? Neurodivergent? Ever feel alienated from other people because of how different you are from them? Have a rebellious streak? Ever just have an intimately close best friend? Gay awakening? Turing did. You and Turing were class clowns or had crushies or friends or were neurodivergent or felt alienated or were punks. Both of you. Turing and [your name].
Christopher died at 18 or 19 due to complications from a childhood case of tuberculosis. Alan Turing was crushed. He mourned this relationship for the rest of his life, writing of Christopher with tender words and remaining in contact with his mother for the rest of his life. He wrote of Christopher:
“I am sure I could not have found anywhere another companion so brilliant and yet so charming and unconceited. I regarded my interest in my work, and in such things as astronomy (to which he introduced me) as something to be shared with him and I think he felt a little the same about me…”
... which is so fucking sof holy shit. Have you ever lost somebody you loved? Somebody you were in love with? Somebody you never had the chance to confess to? Somebody so closely entwined with your person that their family became your family? Alan Turing lost somebody he loved, never had the chance to confess with, whose person was such a part of him that he carried the memories through the rest of his life. He pushed to live on and breathe each breath Christopher would never take.
Alan Turing was also a communist, even joining a commie club in college! He watched the rise of fascist dictators across the world following WWI -- in real time as he grew up in the 1910s and 1920s -- and he aligned himself politically with the Soviet Union. Other students knew him as a socially inept loner, but a fucking genius.
You a commie? Alan Turing was. He fucking knew what’s good. You resent fascism and the incentivized abuses of capitalism? He too saw right through their evils. Got no social skills? Introverted? Known for intelligence among peers? Familiar with gifted kid syndrome maybe? Apple boy lived an existence we nowadays associate with autism and ADHD, all his skill points dumped into intelligence rather than social skills. You and him, he and you. You and him and me. Me and you and him. Us.
Listen. I feel so much fucking affinity for and kinship with this queer man I did not overlap with in existence, who I have to thank for even making this post on this website on this computer about him. Some guy (gender-neutral) like the rest of us, like me and you, just an identifiably critical one. Like, listen to me: a person that made -- I’m gonna argue it -- the single largest and most important contribution to humanity’s progression that ever came out of any 1 person, across all of human history. And he fucked men.

doctor who rankings series 11 edition!!! we've reached the series that inspired this series because basically i think it is NOT that bad. anyway, just my opinions that i will probably disagree with in a moment, so feel free to disagree as well
1. Resolution (11x0) - it's peak i fear... i think chibnall actually understands the daleks unlike moffat. the dalek is overconfident, extremely cruel and sadistic and distinctly evil by nature. the resolution is good and actually creative, and i like that they explored ryan's character a bit more. i don't really have any complaints about this episode, there are slight questions about how the dalek stayed alive like that etc. but it can be overlooked VERY easily, suspension of disbelief is an important thing to keep in mind. can i say that this is currently one of my favourite dalek stories in new who or will i be executed
2. Demons of the Punjab (11x6) - i love it. i love prem. i love the wedding. i love that the aliens weren't evil. i love this episode so much, and also man am i glad to get HISTORICALS THAT AREN'T SET IN EUROPE OR NORTH AMERICA, yeah i really really like this episode and i've literally got no complaints
3. The Witchfinders (11x8) - i really like the historicals of this series!! i like the whole theme, it's interesting and i like the story, alan cumming is brilliant as king james, and it's just pretty good doctor who, i think. it might've been better as a pure historical, but i do like the aliens too, so i'm not mad about it
4. The Woman Who Fell to Earth (11x1) - i think it's an alright introduction to a new doctor. it's very tell not show, but there are some cool scenes and i think it establishes her pretty well, the villain doesn't take too big of a role etc., but honestly, there were a bit too many new characters in it
5. Rosa (11x3) - (as a white person) i think this is such an important episode to have on doctor who, and i'm glad chibnall got a black woman to co write it (russell t davies, take notes), and i'm really glad they actually paid attention to the racism and didn't have it just be one moment, it's a constant in the background and you're a bit scared for ryan and yaz. it makes you uncomfortable and it should, because racism should make everyone uncomfortable. plot is okay and though the dialogue is pretty stiff (which is common for this era), i think it's an alright episode. this episode also has some great jokes balancing it, i love the jokes as well they're actually pretty funny
6. Arachnids in the UK (11x4) - i won't actually tolerate any slander against this episode, it was far better than i remembered, and i enjoyed it a lot. the ending is weirdly out of character for the doctor and her being so against killing the big spider is stupid when she was going to do the same thing except slowly, but other than the ending it's really enjoyable and fun
7. The Tsuranga Conundrum (11x5) - it's not exactly anything special, but still enjoyable and a fun ride in my opinion. the pting is a funny looking little guy, and i actually kinda liked the side characters tbh
8. The Battle of Ranskoor av Kolos (11x10) - it's surprisingly good for a first draft i'm not going to lie. it is not good, and it being a first draft shows, but i actually do think there's some good and creative stuff happening, and i can appreciate that. i like the way it's resolved with the psychic powers and i like the idea of a planet affecting people's minds, but it's far from being as good as it could've been because it is a first draft
9. The Ghost Monument (11x2) - i don't hate it but it's a bit boring at places and very tell not show to the point that it's just annoying, it's a problem with especially the first few episode of the series. still, i really liked the opening, it was really good, and the scene with the floating cloth things is GORGEOUS and really cool. also, i think the ending is nice and i like the introduction to the TARDIS
10. Kerblam! (11x7) - thing is, it's actually a pretty well written episode. but it is SO out of character for the doctor. the doctor would NEVER side with the big corporation my guy is basically a socialist, their every-day activity is hating rich people and siding with the workers, so why on EARTH is the doctor saying the systems aren't the problem??? why on EARTH would you make an episode for doctor who that's trying to convince people, especially kids, that the systems want their best when they absolutely DO NOT??? thank you for coming to my TED talk
11. It Takes You Away (11x9) - it's got a brilliant premise and it's such a good idea, but it just falls flat. there's so much completely unnecessary stuff that takes away from the ACTUALLY IMPORTANT THINGS OF THE EPISODE, like it should've used way less time having a completely unnecessary adventure between the universes and way less time trying to find the NON-EXISTENT MONSTER and we would've needed way more time with solitract-grace and graham because everything in the solitract universe felt rushed and didn't really have an impact because of that. i like the frog tho, but again, the scene with it and the doctor was way too short and had no impact
there we are then, thank you!!!

Drag Race UK: Meet the queens of season six
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is soon set to return to screens and the BBC have confirmed the official line-up of queens ready to walk the runway.
“The competition sees hopeful drag queens compete across ten weeks in a variety of spicy challenges and iconic games designed to test their drag mettle, with the winner of the week being awarded a coveted RuPeter badge, and the bottoms of the week facing a lip sync for their life and the risk of elimination,” an official synopsis reads.
Season six will see Ru return alongside Michelle Visage, Alan Carr, Graham Norton and a host of celebrity guest judges.
For Australian fans, homegrown talent Saki Yew is set to be a likely favourite to snatch the crown.

Tell us about yourself!
Hello! I’m Actavia, I am 21 years old, and I’m from a tiny little town in North Wales called Bala but I now live in Manchester. Bring on the Welsh!
How does it feel to be a Ru girl?
This is literally like a dream come true. It’s such a cliché thing to say but I just can’t believe it’s real and that I’m here.
How long have you been doing drag?
I quickly became obsessed with all things drag around five years ago when I was 16 years old however, being from such a small town, drag was never something that was around me. After discovering Drag Race, everything just clicked! I’ve always loved performing and being on stage so I knew drag was for me and here I am!
How would you describe your drag?
I would describe myself as a bit of a chameleon, and I always like to add a villainess look to my drag aesthetic but I’m really approachable – I promise!
Chanel O’Conor
25, Scotland

A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
Tell us about yourself!
Hello! My name is Chanel O’Conor, I’m 25 and I’m originally from the Isle of Bute in Scotland.
We hear you’re a talented seamstress?
I make all of my own clothes, and I’ve created looks for other queens too. In fact, a lot of my work has already featured on the show as I’ve made outfits for Drag Race UK Series two winner Lawrence Chaney and for various other queens. I’m so proud of that, but it’s now time for me. I want to show off all of my creations ON ME – and I want to win!
Why drag?
I discovered drag as a child watching comedy specials that starred iconic drag characters such as Lily Savage and Dame Edna. From watching these legends, I became obsessed and fell completely in love with drag. Growing up, I used to escape the island for a drama class on the mainland every Saturday, which is where I discovered my true love for experimenting with character creation. From that, I took a drag show to the Edinburgh Fringe and it just snowballed from there – I’ve now been doing drag for eight years!
How did you create the persona of Chanel?
I created the character of Chanel O’Conor as a way for me to ‘play pretend’ in a world I could never be in – being rich, being famous and being a natural ginger. I mixed my love for powerful women and fabulous fashions to create a baby version of Chanel O’Conor – someone who is pure luxury, Austrian royalty twice removed and sips champagne in her private submarine in Lake Como!
Charra Tea
23, Belfast

A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
How does it feel to be a Ru girl?
I feel like I’m on a prank show and any minute now, someone’s going to pop up and say, “Just joking!”. I’m so excited! Meeting RuPaul for the first time is going to be so surreal. I’m obsessed and I’m hoping she can understand this gorgeous Belfast accent.
What inspires your drag?
I was an artsy kid growing up and I’ve always been drawn to big, bold, bright colours which I incorporate into my drag. Some people call it tacky, but I love that and I embrace the tacky!
What would you see at a typical Charra Tea show?
If you were to come to a Charra Tea show, expect to see a pop culture parrot. I love incorporating random niche quotes in my shows from all the UK pop culture legends – Gemma Collins, Kim Woodburn, Nadine Coyle – I love them all!
What would it mean to be the UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar?
To win Drag Race UK would be incredible. Who goes on Drag Race and doesn’t want to win? I’m fun, fresh, I’m not afraid to be tacky and be myself and I love primary colours. I want that crown!
Dita Garbo
47, Kent
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
Tell us about yourself!
I’m Dita Garbo, I’m 48 years young from the sunny seaside town of Folkestone in Kent, and I’m so excited to be putting Folkestone on the map!
How would you describe your drag?
I serve burlesque Hollywood glamour. My influences are burlesque icon Dita Von Teese and Hollywood starlet, Greta Garbo. Hence my name – Dita Garbo. I like to say I’m the burlesque lovechild of Dita Von Teese and Greta Garbo! But I can switch it up if I need to keep up with the kids!
I can jump, split, kick, turn, shablam, drop, turn, backflip, split again… but then I might need some help getting up!
You are the oldest contestant we’ve had on Drag Race UK. How will you use that to your advantage in the competition?
The nice thing about being older is that you come to the competition with a lot of wisdom. If the younger queens need it, I’ll give them some motherly love and advice, but if they annoy me, I’ll tell them!
What challenges are you most excited to take on?
I can sew, I can dance, and I can sing too so I’m excited for any challenges that require those skills! I’ve been a performer all my life and I’m so proud and happy to have been invited by Ru into the Drag Race UK sisterhood and I can’t wait to show what I can do as a mature lady!
Kiki Snatch
25, London

Tell us about yourself!
Hey, I’m Kiki Snatch, I’m 25 years old from London and I’m going to snatch your hearts, baby!
What can you expect at a Kiki Snatch show?
I’m not just a look queen, I’m a big performance queen. I can dance and sing whilst looking pretty doing it! You’re going to get cartwheels, splits, dips, tricks, games with the audience, games… You’re just going to have a fun, fabulous time. That’s why they call me Kiki!
Who are your drag influences?
My drag is inspired by iconic female artists such as Mica Paris, Donna Summer, Beyoncé, Ciara and Teyana Taylor. I’m also inspired by the women in my family – they are all so fierce and powerful.
Tell us about your drag name origins?
I’m a bundle of joy and I love to party and so Kiki comes from me loving a ‘kiki’, which is drag lingo for having a good time. And Snatch of course can mean many things applicable to me – a snatched waist, a snatched face or snatching the Drag Race UK crown!
Kyran Thrax
26, Lancashire

Tell us about yourself!
Hello, I’m Kyran Thrax, I’m 26 years old, and I’m originally from Lancashire.
How does it feel to be a Ru girl?
The idea that I’m here right now just feels so correct! I’m raring to go, the timing is perfect. I am going to be a monster.
Why drag?
I’m a performer, and whilst studying Acting and Contemporary Theatre at drama school, I was doing Shakespeare, expressionism, and clowning… and so I thought why not put it all together and mix it with my love of make-up and drag. And so here we are! I’ve been doing drag for four years, and I’ve been doing it full time for two. I absolutely love it. I’ve done fashion shows, drag brunches, commercials, performances in theatres and clubs. You’ve probably even seen me on a cinema screen and now, I’m finally here!
What would it mean to you to take the crown?
It would mean absolutely everything to me to win Drag Race UK. I have been through so much in life and just to be here is amazing. I’m going to cherish every single moment.

Introduce yourself!
Hello, darlings! I’m La Voix, I’m 43 and I’m from Stockton on Tees. I am a seasoned diva and I cannot wait to get going!
How does it feel to be a Ru girl?
I’m so excited. When they rang me and told me the news, I couldn’t believe it! Shocked isn’t even the word. I had to clear my diary – I’m very busy you see.
Describe a typical La Voix drag show?
I’m known for big, loud belty songs and I love to make ‘em laugh. Comedy and singing are my thing.
You are indeed a very busy queen. Tell us about your career highlights?
Where do I even start?! I’ve competed in Britain’s Got Talent, starred in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, working with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley; I’ve starred in various pantomimes over the span of twenty years; I’ve worked on EIGHTY cruise ships (yes eighty!) and I’ve toured all over the world with my one woman show… and now I’m here on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK!
Lill
36, Manchester

A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
Tell us about yourself!
Hiya! My name’s Lill, I’m 36 years old, and I’m from the best place in the world – Manchester! I’m gorgeous, I’ve got great style, I’m creative, fun and I’m easy like a Sunday morning.
How would you describe your drag?
I would say my drag is very creative and rebellious. I love getting stuff from charity shops, cutting things up and transforming old tatty stuff into the stunning! I’ve got a thousand different references that influence my drag. I adore fashion and my favourite designer is John Galliano, who inspires a lot of my fashion looks. The best thing about me is my sense of style. My style is usually glamourous pin up girl, but sometimes it can be freaky and weird! Fashion comes and goes, but style is forever.
What are the origins of your drag name?
Lill is an acronym for Living in Lavish Luxury. My friend made it up for me one day, and I ran with it! I like to think I’m living in lavish luxury always! I appreciating each moment as it comes, I spoil myself rotten and I have a great time.
What’s the biggest misconception about you?
I think it takes quite a while for people to get to know me. At first, people might think that I’m a bit rude or a bit stoney faced, but I’m definitely not. I’ve got the biggest, softest heart. I’m just a bit shy at first!
Marmalade
24, Cardiff
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
Introduce yourself!
Greetings one and all! My name is Marmalade, I am 24 years old and I am the crown jewel of Cardiff drag.
How would you describe your drag?
I would describe my drag as Hollywood glamour, all wrapped up in a gorgeous Welsh sense of stupidity. When I was sixteen, I saw the most fabulous photo of the Hollywood starlet, Lana Turner in the film The Prodigal and that was it! All I wanted from then was to become that image. My favourite leading ladies are Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, Faye Dunaway, Barbara Streisand. Also, two of my all-time favourites are Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn in Death Becomes Her. I like to think that I give vintage aesthetic with a modern twist!
What is the drag scene like in Cardiff?
The Cardiff drag scene is very tiny. There are very few queens and kings there. That said, it’s a mighty scene. We’re a gorgeous set of very talented weirdos. I am the prettiest though. I mean, look at me!
Your work has already appeared on Drag Race UK. Tell us more?
Outside of drag, I am a full-time seamstress. I’ve made outfits for Drag Race UK alumni such as Lawrence Chaney, Victoria Scone and Tia Kofi, but it’s now my time to step into the spotlight so here I am! I started sewing out of complete necessity, as there weren’t many drag seamstresses in Cardiff, and now it’s become a career and my passion and my major superpower.
Rileasa Slaves
32, London
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
Tell us about yourself?
Hey boo! My name is Rileasa Slaves, I’m 32 years old from London, but I was born in St Lucia. She’s international baby!
People say you’re the spitting image of a certain pop star… tell us more?
I have been told I resemble a certain worldwide superstar named Rihanna. Like Rhianna, I’m also a Caribbean queen, a glamazon, and a superstar, but I’m not Rihanna. I’m the real Rileasa, ready to be rileasa’d onto the world.
What have been your career highlights?
Drag has opened so many doors for me. I’m a trained contemporary dancer, and I have performed on tour with Becky Hill, travelled all over Europe and even performed at Glastonbury! It was an amazing moment to perform to such a big crowd. And now, I’m on Drag Race UK!
What does drag mean to you?
The first time I did drag, I had so much fear in my bones. A lot of my fear came from my religious upbringing in the Caribbean and the difficulties you can face being part of the LGBTQ+ community in the Caribbean. Becoming Rileasa has given me the opportunity to face my fears.
Saki Yew
33, Manchester
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
Introduce yourself!
G’day mate! I’m Saki Yew and I’m 33 years old. I’m originally from Melbourne, Australia, but love brought me all the way across the globe to settle down in to life as a booked and blessed Manchester drag queen.
What can you expect from a Saki Yew show?
There’s a lot of energy – you won’t be able to take your eyes off me! You can expect to see a showgirl who’s going to perform her heart out, whether it be a ballad or a dance anthem. It’s really important to me, to represent my cultural identity in my drag and so I serve Australian showgirl glamour, mixed with high energy Filipino sass and a sprinkle of Northern wit and realness. I think I am a bit of a Frankenstein drag queen!
What skills do you bring to the competition?
I’ve been a drag queen for over thirteen years, and I have an extensive entertainment CV. As well as serving face and showgirl glamour, I am also a very experienced sewer and crafter. I particularly love crochet. My love of crochet comes from when I was on tour with The Lion King and during breaks in acts, I would crochet blankets, beanies, scarves. I even crocheted a beanie for my dog! Here’s hoping, that the opportunity arises to crochet in a design challenge!
What challenges are you looking forward to?
I can’t wait to show off in a girl group challenge and a Rusical! With my musical theatre background, these challenges are made for me.
Zahirah Zapanta

A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
Introduce yourself!
Mabuhay! I’m Zahirah Zapanta, I’m 28 years old from Nottingham and I’m your beauty queen!
How does it feel to be here as a Ru Girl?
I am feeling incredible, beautiful and most importantly humble! I’m so excited to be here.
Describe your drag?
The look is correct, the hair is laid, the performances are fabulous, but the personality is a chaotic mess! I’m so proud of my British Filipino roots and it has influenced my drag so much. As a little kid, I constantly watched beauty pageants such as Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Continental, and the UK has given me a unique and eclectic edge. I grew up with a lot of powerful women in my life. Growing up with Filipino aunties, my mum, my sister and lesbian aunties has definitely shaped Zahirah. The genetics do help me look this fabulous too!
Tell us about your journey to drag?
I was born in the Philippines and came to the UK with my family when I was 10 years old settling in Nottingham. Growing up, I was well known where I grew up. I was always quite flamboyant and my family actively encouraged me to be a beauty queen. As a teenager, it felt like a natural move to showcase my love of makeup and dressing up on YouTube. I built a fanbase, created a network, forayed into drag, learnt more about the art and I became a beauty queen!
Are you in it to win it?
Of course, I’m most definitely in it to win it!
The rumoured premiere date for season six is September 26. If past seasons are any indication, the series will stream on the same-day on Stan.
