things that help me as a writer !!

(these are all just things i do when i write a new book or start a small project/story)

BIGGER PROJECTS

i always start my figuring out what i want to write & make a small synopsis, usually written in google docs or in my notes app.

if i really like the idea for the book then i'll set a new book up in wattpad, giving it a cover and adding the synopsis in the intro.

then i start with the FUNNN stuff . .

tons and tons of pinterest boards, for the characters, for the book's aesthetic, for the setting, the lifestyle, the fun everything.

this isn't for my small projects, or even all of them, but for the ones that get published early on, i make spotify playlists for the readers.

playlists also help me because i can turn a different playlist on for each book when i'm writing it, and it helps me zone into it

songs play a big role in my writing!! (though i usually make playlists when i'm figuring out the synopsis.)

i don't always do this, but make moodboards for your main characters, i use a 3x3 grid, so i get 8 photos that are based very much on the oc, and then leave the middle photo for the faceclaim/what they're supposed to look like.

use faceclaims !! i don't do this everytime, but if i have some characters i really think would make a good match then i use faceclaims.

otherwise, if it's a big group of friends, you'll rarely catch me using faceclaims :p

SMALLER PROJECTS

these usually consist of short stories, or writing urges/spurs i get when i just feel like writing something small i come up with.

still make pinterest boards, they help me a lot with planning out the characters vibes

i add the wattpad stuff last, because i don't always know if i'll publish the smaller projects

visualize the characters, i don't use as many faceclaims for smaller projects that are like a few chapters long

if making moodboards use smaller (twitter header sized) moodboards for each character, and only use 3-4 photos

that's really all <3

i don't usually make things about writing on my gb but i just felt like it since i'm preparing for 3 books to publish in a few months lol

12/01/2025 - Daily Pull

Here we go with my cards for today.

As usual, I do my daily pull of one oracle card and one tarot card.

Cards: 14. Duke of Shadows, X The Wheel of Fortune

A new cycle is beginning for me. Forces outside my control are brimming underneath the surface. I might not be able to see a whole picture right now but there is no reason to worry, more like to be curious. Some things in life are not under my control but that doesn't mean I should panic over it. A change of odds is on it's way. The tables will turn for whatever seemed troublesome for me recently.

As you see, it continues with the topic we have seen in previous daily pulls. One cycle of my life ended, there is a rebirth happening for me and a new cycle begins. Just like a seed buried in the ground is invisible to the eye but still very real and growing, the new chapter of my life is still in progress for me and I can't possibly see all the details right now. I'm advised to be patient, curious and courageous. The Duke of Shadows is dressed up as for a party, with the balloons surrounding him. Yes, those still seem shadowy and grey for now but they still suggest happiness and celebration in making.

41 - Bring It Into Form

I swear I'm not TRYING to pull the same cards lol. XD But I do feel this kind of energy a lot rn. The need to make things, but without the drive to actually create them. Lots of percolating ideas, bc sometimes creativity is like that. You sit and let ideas sit for a while until they decide they want to be written, or drawn, or created in whatever way they want to be manifest in.

It is interesting to have this thread of energy coming through the cards, though. There's all this creative energy flowing around and through me, and my head is buzzing with ideas. I just haven't had the time/energy/inspiration to make them come to life yet.

It's not writer's block, though. Just a pause as ideas take a moment to ferment and figure themselves out, while I sit here waiting to do the thing.

I know there's stuff to come. I know there's things to make and write and draw but the time isn't quite right for them yet. It will be soon, but not yet. The annoying thing is the waiting ngl. Having all this creative energy that's just waiting, rather than pushing me forwards. Soon, though. Just gotta let things settle. Let the ideas finish forming. Then they'll be done. Then they'll be able to be shared.

Yourself, Right Now: You have deep feeling like something is not right. Sit with the feeling. Open a journal and write down everything that is feeling wrong. Write down every question, confusion, contradiction you feel and observe, no matter where you observe it. Sense it all and write it down. The time to explore and research will come soon, right now is the time to be still and ask the questions.

Yourself, in the Years to Come: Let go of the fear of change and embrace your personal transformation - it is a gift to stop allowing our unhealthy patterns control us and learn how to live free of these restrictions. You will have a drive to learn quite a lot about governments, history, politics, political parties, international diplomacy, economic systems and will question how we can make all this fair. Keep an open mind, a tender heart, and (!!) recenter and reflect after consuming articles, books, video essays, podcasts. Consider the source, and this source’s sources. Learn about peer review, the scientific method, critical thinking, propaganda vs educational media, and learn how to research. Be open (but not so open your brain falls out). Your current, learned, worldview will come crashing down. The way you understand your values will change, it’s a gift. Get familiar with Google Scholar, JSTOR, Project Gutenberg, the Marxist Internet Archive, and ask academia tumblr and reddit where to find articles that aren't locked behind a paywall. Explore everything.

Community, Right Now: Nurture those around you, offer comfort. focus on emotional support, advice will have the opportunity to be given later. Create space for your community to hold each other and be held. That simple act is the only thing needed right now. Ideas and ambition will be naturally birthed from these actions.

Community, in the Years to Come: Examine where you are investing your time, energy and resources and make sure you are satisfied with your current progress and receiving a return on those time and energy investments. Use a prioritization system to ensure you do not waste precious resources on areas that will not deliver results. prioritize your activities carefully. You need to do a cost-benefit analysis of the major tasks involved to bring your project to fruition, as some are taking a lot of your time and energy without bearing the rewards you are seeking. 

Earth, Right Now: Ground yourself into reality. Daydreams, maladaptive or not, aren’t helping you right now. Clear your head. You can dance, exercise, put your face in a bowl of ice, sing, draw, write, craft. Once centered, ask yourself what real action, what baby steps, in the Right Now you can take to make your ideas and wishes real.

Earth, in the Years to Come: Communicate regularly, be it writing, posting to social media, podcasting, comedy, or slam poetry. Do regular empowerment exercises, get resourceful, and take action. You either have what you need, or know exactly how to get it. Nothing is stopping you from making it happen, from making it real. As Tim Gunn said “Designers, make it work”. Honestly, you might find the different processes the designers used on Project Runway, and seeing their sketches become real clothes, to be inspiring in your own work and life.
