Episode 1: Nightmare, Alan Wake

I can't help but feel like Warlin Door (Alan Wake 2) was supposed to echo Martin Hatch (Quantum Break). They seem to exist in different states of reality all at once. Dead and alive, neither dead nor living, and can bend the world to their whims (to a certain extent).

So, I've been constantly thinking that maybe the character was one Lance Reddick was supposed to portray. It was pretty much in his wheelhouse (tall and imposing, spooky guy connected to a grander mystery). But that's probably not the case.

It would've been cool, though.

Always thinking about how sad it is that Alan really just wanted to go on vacation with his wife. Like take out all of the supernatural later happenings and make this just a normal story.

I know Alice and Barry are concerned about his writing, but pushing the issue clearly wasn’t making progress. And then Alice went and tricked him about them going on a vacation as a means to get him to go to a creative psychiatric institute.

Hell an actual genuine vacation may have actually gotten rid of his writer’s block.

My thought process as I played through Control for the first time after getting into Alan Wake II

Btw this is not me bashing on any ships- tbh they’re both good in my opinion - I just thought it was funny how I thought I immediately clocked Darling and Trench (which- if we’re going by Ao3 statistics I did), got blindsided by Darling and Zane, and then immediately understood why they were on the top of the tag after watching them interact for literally 1 minute 💀💀💀

Remedy Crossing: Bright Falls

Finished with the Bright Falls gang! Character list and some notes under the cut. Control/FBC gang coming next!

Saga - Deer // Casey - Dog (Doberman) // Rose - Rabbit // Koskelas - Moose

Barry - Ram // Alan, Alice - Owls // Warlin Door - Eagle // Scratch - Owl

Ahti - Otter // Zane - Owl // Tim Breaker - Bear // Andersons - Birds (Crows)

Saga and Alan were the easiest to pick, given that the game already calls them the deer and the owl, respectively. Alice, Scratch, and Zane followed Alan suit. The Koskelas are moose cause Mocha’s skull was the symbol of the leaders of the cult. I considered making Ahti a sloth cause of how calm he is, but I decided on otter in the end cause he’s a water god. Door is an eagle cause he can move through planes freely like a bird, but I wanted something different from the other bird characters. The Andersons are crows based off Huginn and Muninn. Barry, Casey, Rose, and Tim I based just off of vibes (ngl, Barry and Casey might be my favorites). And figuring out how to make Scratch intimidating in a cute artstyle was fun :p

GameSpot sat down with creative director Sam Lake, performance director Hannah Price, and actress Melanie Liburd, whose likeness and voice give the character life, to get to know Saga, where she's come from, and why her place in the story is more important than even she realizes when she arrives in Bright Falls.

"We don't have that many playable characters through almost 30 years of Remedy history," Lake said. "[Creating a new protagonist] is a big event and we take that very seriously." The idea of Alan Wake 2, Lake told me, has changed several times over the last 13 years, and the team started to think about a sequel with multiple playable characters "a few versions ago."

"We wanted to be really, really ambitious with the story," Lake told me, "So having multiple points of view in the story, and having more tonal shifts with that, just felt like the right way to go. And out of that, Saga Anderson's character was born. Even though this is called Alan Wake 2, this is just as much a Saga Anderson game. They are very much at the heart of the story--both of them."

The fact that Alan Wake 2 just dead ass includes a full musical number with a kick ass song is just amazing.
