10 BL Characters I Want Carnally
AKA I'm just a person with two keen eyes and dubious morals when it comes to enjoying media so don't take it seriously, I'm here for a good time.
Thank you @sndrys for tagging me! This was an eye opening experience putting this together. As it turns out I might have a type (ew).
1) Guy from Bake Me Please (2023)
The sole reason for me creating this list! Look, I dropped Bake Me Please almost immediately because it just wasn't for me BUT I've been lowkey watching through my dash. And let me tell you, my fingers gain consciousness and hit reblog everytime this baby's face pops up because...well...LOOK AT HIM. He is beautiful and he should get the guy (hehe get it) in the end idc.
2) Yok from Not Me (2021)
Yok is such a beloved character and for good reason! He is sexy, he is gay, he sets buildings on fire and steals cops' wallets on accident because HOW WAS HE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT GUY HE WAS STALKING WAS A COP??? I love you Yok, never change.
3) Palm from Never Let Me Go/ OurSkyy2 (2022-23)
The anger I felt for all the injustice and mistreatment our beautiful Palm had to face in this show took literal years off my life. It's rare for me to get this passionately protective over a character and yet here we are, in the Palm Protection Squad headquarters. Even Nueng is on the watchlist!
4) Tonhon from Tonhon Chonlatee (2020)
Not to out myself as an enjoyer of silly goofy times , but I did have fun watching Fish Upon The Sky and Secret Crush On You, so OFCOURSE I thought I would like this one too but GOD was it rough. Did I still finish it? Yes. Did I fawn over PoddKhao pairing and have been quietly praying for some kind of reunion ever since? Also yes. Was I foaming at the mouth barking everytime Tonhon AKA Podd was on my screen? I'm not gonna comment without lawyer present.
5) Tew from My Dear Gangster Oppa (2023)
Speaking of Tonhon Chonlatee...AH! Ai Long Nhai (TC's spiritual prequel of sorts) was sure...something. And by something I mean I saw Meen and decided I will never speak ill of men ever again, feminism quite literally left my body. And then a year later My Dear Gangster Oppa came out and guess what??! MEEN IS THE GANGSTER OPPA! Dreams really do come true, kids.
6) Wen from Moonlight Chicken (2023)
(or Tian from ATOATS or Mueang Nan fron FUTS). Mix...I will eat you. Always so dewy and healthy and sparkly-eyed. But Wen from Moonlight Chicken is something out of the realm of my imagination. The sex appeal? The maturity?? The gentleness??!! Somebody sedate me before I say something I will not be able to justify in court.
7) Vee from Love Mechanics (2022)
He is a pretty bisexual who makes the most abhorrent stupid decisions known to men and then weeps and suffers for them WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED? Once again, is the show flawless or even remotely coherent? Absolutely not. That being said Vee brought me so much joy by being stupid I'm forever grateful.
(also YinWar are so back GO WATCH JACK AND JOKER TRAILER)
8) Prapai from Love In The Air (2022)
To a certain extent I've enjoyed every MAME show I've watched. To do that you need to possess the rare ability called "I abandoned every shred of moral integrity to gawk at hot men". And Prapai? MAN is this bitch hot. Tall dark handsome? Check! Bisexual on a bike? Check! Stubborn and annoying? CHECK!
9) Xiang Hao Ting from HIStory3: Make Our Days Count (2019)
*incoherent wailing and sobbing* IM NOT EXPLAINING SHIT ABOUT HIM LEAVE ME ALONE
10) AlanJeff from Pit Babe (2023)
My newest obsession! I refuse to separate our local senior citizen and his favorite prophetic mechanic. Both of them are hot as shit in their own way. Alan is a sexy dilf with so much weight and responsibility on his shoulders it's a miracle he retained his optimism and youthful awkwardness. And Jeff is a prickly baby-cow-baby-deer eyed baby that is so touch starved it's actually a little funny. SO I GUESS ALANJEFF SANDWICH IT IS.
(don't be shy tag yourselves besties <3)

Friday Ramblings
I don't normally do this but I have a couple of thoughts going on in my head regarding the last couple of days week in BL that I just wanted to collect them all instead of just doing it in tags.
Shadow
I'm pissed. I am a big fan of anything horror or supernatural themed stuff so I was really looking forward to this. (Don't even get me started of how disappointed I am at the disappearance of the other horror themed show I could be watching) And the first part did not disappoint. It was a strong first half, good set up of the different story lines and all the players and I was really excited about it. There was such good meta written about the show, and it turned out to be superior to what the show eventually gave us. (@wen-kexing-apologist specially gave us such excellent meta on this show that I wish they were in charge of the second half of this show) I agree with @lurkingshan about everything they said here. Something which I thought was interesting was that I think in this second half the show purposefully made the fake arm really obvious. I don't know if it wanted us to know before Dan but I also don't think it was an accident. But I'm also not gonna theorize about the reasons because I really don't care that much. The "BL" bait was just another thing that pissed me off. I'm not upset it's not BL, I'm upset because it was sold as such and no one will convince me otherwise. For a couple of episodes, at least, the show wanted us to think that Dan was falling for Nai. The prom moment was just fucking ridiculous. The parallels with October 6 could've been really interesting if there wasn't so much going on that it kinda took the weight of it away. One of the questions I like to ask myself when watching any media is - what is it trying to tell? Sometimes nothing and that's fine. It's pure escapism and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It can still be excellent. And sometimes it tries to say too much that it ends up not having a cohesive message and it all falls flat. Religion, communism, family trauma, homophobia, mental health, infidelity, teacher-student relationship, pregnancy, murder, police brutality, friendship, bullying, the oh so many supernatural elements, I could go on. You get the picture. So in conclusion, I am not happy.
VIP Only
It's cute. I like both of them enough and it's a good mellow way to start the friday madness.
Last Twilight
This show is surprising me so much. In the best ways. As I said before this pair didn't do much for me in the past but I've surrendered completely, specially to Jimmy. He was so good in this episode that I felt obligated to gif it just so I could keep watching his expressions.
That whole final scene just floored me. His eyes just carried that moment and that whole scene so well that by the end a lonely sunflower brought tears to my eyes. ( and I do not cry easy). After all the cute dates, this scene was a gut punch.
I'm just really stuck on this show, and it holds my attention all through the episode.
My Dear Gangster Oppa
This episode was silly, I couldn't care less about the gangster side of the story at the moment, I'd rather spend more time with the gamer friend group. Wahl got a bit of a redemption but I still don't like him. I liked that Guy stood his ground with Wahl and Tew, but hated the stalker behaviour. If you wanna go dude, just leave!
Sahara Sensei to Toki-kun
Japan my beloved. They just keep giving me all I need. Toki is giving me some Aoki vibes and I could not be happier. And Toki now has got two friends in his corner and I'm so happy. This one and Kinou Nani Tabeta are currently my main sources of joy and my heart is full.
Pit Babe I'd like to thank @pharawee for giving us the novel commentary because it makes it a bit less confusing while I watch this. I have no clue about omegaverse so a part of me is confused, sometimes bored, another part of me is just waiting for Jeff and Alan to be a thing and all of me is happy that Pavel is on my screen weekly.
Twins
This show is dragging and I'm officially bored. I don't mind a slow burn if the rest of the show can hold it together. But the team animosity is just tiring and annoying at this point, the side couples are not engaging ( a bj in the shower does not a side couple make) and for a show named Twins, I would like to see more of them.
Middleman's Love
I'm 99% here for the sides. They are cute, they give me some Ram/King vibes and I wanna see more of them. I was super happy to see Ngern again and the family dinner was a good moment. I don't have the patience for this sort of misunderstanding anymore so that ending annoyed the hell out of me.
(I'm watching For Him too but I have nothing nice to say, so I'll say nothing at all. And yes I know I just did that with Shadow but I was never that invested in this one)
Really looking forward to Kinou Nani Tabeta tomorrow morning and The Sign in the afternoon.
I wish all a great weekend and thanks for reading💜
(because I needed a good cry)

James Duval in Nowhere (Gregg Araki, 1997)
Cast: James Duval, Rachel True, Nathan Bexton, Chiara Mastroianni, Debi Mazar, Kathleen Robertson, Joshua Gibran Mayweather, Jordan Ladd, Christina Applegate, Sarah Lassez, Guillermo Diaz, Jeremy Jordan, Alan Boyce, Jaason Simmons, Ryan Philippe, Heather Graham, Scott Caan, Thyme Lewis, Mena Suvari, Beverly D'Angelo, Charlotte Rae, Denise Richards, Teresa Hill, Kevin Light, Traci Lords, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan, John Ritter, Christopher Knight, Eve Plumb, Lauren Tewes, David Leisure. Screenplay: Gregg Araki. Cinematography: Arturo Smith. Production design: Patti Podesta. Film editing: Gregg Araki.
I have taken the liberty of listing more cast members than usual just because Nowhere is a crowded movie, a throng of newcomers, future stars, familiar faces, and a few one-shots. It's a mess, but an intentional one, the chaotic culminating film of Gregg Araki's Teenage Apocalypse trilogy that began with Totally F***ed Up in 1993 and continued with The Doom Generation in 1995. Araki called it "Beverly Hills 90210 on acid," and that serves as well as anything to describe this freewheeling farrago of sex and drugs, as Araki puts a lot of Gen Xers and Millennials through hell. It's eye-bombing and ear-assaulting, and it contains a rape scene as well as a murder committed with a can of Campbell's Tomato Soup. In short, don't watch it unprepared.

You know, I think that a big part of my issue with the whole JKTERFing and the video game that shall not be named can be summed up in this: She has absolutely no credits on the IMDB page.
JK Rawling had as much hand in creating this game (probably even less) as GRRM had in creating Elden Ring. Just the background, that's all.
Which means that any and all bigotry or monstrous behavior hidden in this game? Is placed there, in its entirety, by the people who actually worked ON THIS GAME.
Put blame where it belongs, people. Don't make up lies to justify your hate of Roaring, because you don't have to. She's a TERF, she's already done shit to deserve being angry at. Just don't lie, and don't shift blame onto her that would belong onto someone else. It's the fucking inverted 'Hatsune Miku created Minecraft' and it's even dumber this way.

This is disappointing for me, looked up the Director of Hogwarts Legacy.
His name is Alan Tew, he's been in the industry for 20+ years.
He was the lead designer on the Van Helsing PS2 game, which is based off Devil May Cry.
What sticks out to me, he was also lead designer and animator as well as a character designer on Barbarian for PS2 which is based on Power Stone.
It's not the best game, but it does some stuff with the story mode you don't see often in fighting games. Which makes it really interesting to me.
It was on my list of games to talk about eventually...
In Japan it was rebranded as Warrior Blade: Rastan vs Barbarian, Rastan being an old game series from Taito.

Do you have recommendations for games similar to RE4 that aren't Resident Evil? I've seen, like, a billion games cited as being similar to RE4 in some way and I'm curious where to even start. Among them, I've seen: Haunting Grounds, Devil May Cry, Dead Space, The Evil Within, The Last of Us...
I'm sure there's more, but basically: any recommendations? What should I stay away from?
Haunting Ground and Devil May Cry are not like RE4 in the slightest, despite both of them having been RE4 at one point. If you play either game expecting RE4, you're going to be disappointed.
Dead Space is probably going to be your closest 1:1 comparison in terms of gameplay, pacing, and tone. I've heard the Dead Space remake is excellent. So maybe start there.
The Evil Within was made by the same director of OG RE4 and is, in some ways, a love letter to OG RE4. But, at the same time, its story and storytelling style are very, very different and requires a lot of close attention and brain power. Cutscenes alone won't get you to understanding what the fuck is happening in that game; you have to pore through the files and memos and all that other shit and put it together yourself. If that appeals to you, definitely play TEW. Ignore the sequel.
TLOU... I can't give an objective opinion on because I fucking hate the game. It's a melodrama. It's like, what if RE4 was a soap opera that used literally every single zombie apocalypse trope in the book and then tried to pass itself off as a serious narrative. Also, there's like. Crafting in it and shit.
I would give the Fatal Frame games a chance, because while they're not as fast-paced or action-oriented as RE, they have a similar vibe and style to them. Also every FF game protagonist is a lady.
Maybe also give Alan Wake a chance? Alan Wake is a love letter to the entire horror genre, from movies to books to games, and it does play similarly to RE4. And the sequel is coming out this October.
Basically, RE didn't become a juggernaut for no reason. There's nothing out there that's quite like it. But you can get similar-ish.

Reunion with Director Alan Tew
It's been a long time since I posted! It's been a long time since I was bedridden for a month due to the aftereffects of having my tooth pulled out last fall, but I'm still actively talking about Van Helsing on Japanese SNS.
Twitter in Japan is buzzing about early access for the Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy. Did you know that the director of this game, Alan Tew, is also on the staff of Van Helsing's PS2 game? In the Van Helsing game, there is a village cemetery, inscribed with the names of the staff of the production company, Saffire. Mr. Tew's name is also there. I was surprised when I noticed that my name was engraved on one side of the tombstone, and I thought, what a strong commitment to this game. When I finished the game and looked at the staff roll, I laughed out loud at all the familiar names. Mr. Tew is a great person who appears at the top of the staff roll as lead designer. What a coincidence to be reunited with the staff of a game that I played 18 years after its release in the latest popular game! I'm happy to see Mr. Tew's face in the Hogwarts Legacy interview video.
Hogwarts Legacy is a funny topic on Japanese Twitter. "Abada Kedavra (death spell)" can be used in the game, but since the era is set in 1890, long before Harry and others, isn't it prohibited by law? However, the death spell was banned in 1717, so it was illegal even during Hogwarts Legacy. The term "illegal avada kedabra" has become a trend on Twitter in Japan.
In Van Helsing's game, you can attack Dracula by shooting the Gatling gun, which was not used in the movie. You can feel the bloodline of Mr. Tew!
