Something I think about a lot is how Akira is definitely a freak but she just gets away with it because there’s so many other freaks around her. That woman is deranged. Her mother died when she was young and her dad went murder crazy so she had to raise herself in a house full of weapons made of corpses. She went to Murder School and was the best at Murder School. She prefaces conversations with her coworkers by saying that she refuses to speak formally to save 30 seconds a day and that is more important to her than being respected. She gave her cat a French name and she does not speak french. She got so drunk and horny that she called her coworker dad. I bet the contents of her kitchen cabinets are insane. I need her

i can't quite remember if i've discussed this one here, but one of my most treasured headcanons is that kiyoko aura was in love with kasuka mado. i think they were extremely close, as they were the same age and the only women of that era who had climbed the ranks so fast. their friendship began in the academy, and lasted afterwards despite fears it might not. i think kasuka was straight so there was no chance of them getting together, but kiyoko didn't even care. her love for kasuka outweighed the desire for romance and the disappointment at the lack thereof. she loved her wholeheartedly, no matter the nature of their relationship. kasuka loved her back with just as much fervency, just never in a way that wasn't platonic. i think kasuka was aware of kiyoko's romantic feelings but was not put off or made uncomfortable by them. kasuka never flinched away from kiyoko's gentle hands tucking hair behind her ear or a comforting embrace, she never shied away from doing the same for her, because she fully trusted in the strength of their platonic bond. they were each other's rocks throughout all of the trials and tribulations of being an investigator who was a woman, of being an investigator at all.

i think they hit some rocky waters when kureo was brought into kasuka's life. kiyoko was hurt by kasuka having found someone new to do most things with. jealousy blossomed but less of the fact that kureo was with kasuka romantically, and more so that kiyoko didn't get to spend near as much time with kasuka anymore. things got tense between them until they sort of blew up. i think they fought and then exited each others lives for a while. kiyoko didn't hate kureo, he treated kasuka well, and that's all she could ever want, but she felt resentment towards him. he was taking away her best friend. kiyoko's resentment grew and grew after her and kasuka parted ways, but eventually the resentment sloughed off to reveal an aching desire to have her friend return to her. kiyoko came to know that she had to accept kureo to keep kasuka. she could live with that. still, she was afraid to reach out. she was a woman who charged bravely into danger in the field, but she couldn't scrounge up the courage to reach out to kasuka for the fear of her not accepting her apology and not wanting her around.

kasuka reached out to kiyoko around the same time kiyoko was agonizing over if she herself should reach out or not. she apologized for having made kiyoko feel less important, which kiyoko countered with an apology for not accepting kureo as apart of kasuka's life and that she had to make room for him. there were lots of tears and tender hugs. i think this is when kasuka revealed she was pregnant. in the past, kiyoko would've felt that piling resentment, but this time she was happy for her. this time, she was ready to accept kureo, and she was willing to trust that kasuka would make more time for her.

kiyoko was made akira's godmother. she even began to hold a small amount of space for kureo in her own heart, taking it a step further than just accepting him. and of course, baby akira made her heart fill up even more than she ever thought it could. she felt a new sense of fulfillment after it all, a rejuvenation of her bond with kasuka. she felt like she was on top of the world and nothing could bring her and kasuka down, their bond had grown stronger.

she was furious when kasuka died.

all of the progress she had made with accepting kureo was seemingly torn down in a single night. she blamed him. she blamed him for leaving kasuka behind. being an investigator, she knew that kureo had no choice. it was an order. she knew, too, how much he loved kasuka and how he would've had to have been dragged away from her. but grief wasn't a rational thing, and she speed-ran the step of denial to anger. she's not proud of this time in her life at all, but she completely abandoned kureo in this time, and in turn, little akira too. akira had done nothing wrong, of course, but her anger toward kureo was too intense for him to be nearby, which he almost always was when she was with akira. still, she went to the funeral, despite knowing kureo would of course be there.

i think the anger was still present but melted away a bit when she saw him at the funeral. he was utterly distraught, and kiyoko knew how it felt. they were the closest ones to kasuka, and she started to realize that they would need each other. kureo was inconsolable at kasuka's grave, in utter hysterics. i think others tried, but failed, to soothe him enough to peel him away. kiyoko stepped in, after hemming and hawing about whether or not she should. she sat with him at her grave, not caring that her skirt suit was going to be stained by the mud. they sat there for a long time, kiyoko comforting him through her own pain, until kureo was ready to get up.

i don't think their relationship ever went back to what it was before kasuka died, not that they were extremely close or anything, but you know what i mean. she stayed around for akira like she had promised when accepting the role of her godmother.

akira looked more and more like her mother as each year passed. it got to the point that kiyoko would have to do a double take at times, thinking she was seeing a ghost. eventually she started to slip up and call akira "kasuka" at times. she was always quick to correct herself, but mentally kicking herself at the mistake. it was always uncomfortable for both her and akira. there were periods of time in which kiyoko would not be present in akira's life due to this, as it would get a bit too painful for them both. i think they lost contact as akira grew into an adult, but came back into it when akira joined the CCG academy. kiyoko took her under her wing, and helped shape her into the woman her mother would've wanted of her.

•Akira is a tricky one. I think she'd read more books if she had the time. Has a tbr list as long as her arm. Very picky with fiction. Has a general knowledge of many books.

Go to her for: non-fiction, social commentary *disclaimer*:: whilst she can recommend books, keep in mind she likely hasn't read them... And she doesn't need to to form an opinion.

•If Banjou is reading a book, it's probably something that is either: 1). Really important. 2). Really good.

He'll also lend out books (but not the "nice" books. He has dedicated crappy paperbacks that he'll lend out to people like you and me. Doesn't even care/notices if he gets them back. You're welcome.)

Go to him for: free books, translated literature, classics, horror, contemporary, social commentary, poetry, science fiction, basically anything except romantasy. Do not get him started on that.

•Of course Kaneki is on the list! This is self-explanatory. What I will say about him, is he is hesitant to lend out books for two very important reasons: 1). They are incredibly precious to him. 2). He annotates them, so it's kinda like reading his diary. Aww. He'll probably buy you a copy if you're that keen.

Go to him for: anything, you can't go wrong. Go to him and ask for book recs even if you don't need them; it's worth it to watch him come to life and talk about something he truly loves.

TG characters and how they would play Stardew

Kaneki: Cozy farm, on the spectrum of constantly broke to min-maxer he’s somewhere in the middle. He started playing the game to relax and unwind and it sucked him in. Now he’s gotten to the point in the game where he can actually relax. He’s probably married to Sam or Elliott

Touka: She focuses more on animals than crops, and her farm is filled with rabbits. She has a couple purely aesthetic mods installed and has a very cute farm. She’s also gotten to at least floor 200 in the skull caverns. I feel like she’d marry Penny.

Hide: Pure chaos. 10 billion chests with nothing organized. He has no money ever. He only started playing cause Kaneki wanted to try a multiplayer run and was banned from the game after 2 days for giving all of their resources away to Haley (she hated all of them)

Hinami: Mix between Touka’s and Kaneki’s, just replace the rabbits with chickens. She has made it down even further than Touka in skull caverns. She’d take Krobus as a roomate.

Akira: Not a min-maxer but still pretty close. She has the entire stardew valley wiki memorized and has reached completion at least twice. She always makes sure her farm looks nice, and tries to get a ton of chests so she can organize her stuff early-game. She likes the fishing minigame.

Amon: He’s in a state of perpetually having next to no money and is stuck on floor 40 of the mines. He has 12 parsnips that he forgets to water. He doesn’t know that chests exist. Despite all this, he’s still having fun. He likes fishing enough, and he spends most of his time befriending the villagers. He gets really sad when they don’t like his gifts

Seidou: He’s not bad. He doesn’t have the best luck, so that tends to be a problem for him. He gets really frustrated with the game sometimes and quits for a bit before returning. He’s a decent way through the game and he’s completed the community centre. He doesn’t use the wiki at all and tries to avoid spoilers. He’s trying his hardest to marry Alex.

Juuzou: Didn’t know how to play, became a min-maxer within three days. Seidou hates him for this.
