Thinking about Halo again

I like him but also he is very bare bones but I feel like I can’t change that? In my head Halo is very blank, he is not a person, he may be a ai but he’s extremely limited in terms of emotions and wants. He is capable of learning, of adapting, he can think and reason, but his only motive and purpose is to keep the facility going. To keep a constant influx of new subjects and to ensure experiments run smoothly and organs get transferred out.

I just don’t imagine him really having a personality which causes some issues to the few actual people he hires or interacts with

I’m gonna list some crazy/random theories I don’t think will actually be in TOTK but if I somehow get one of them right it will give me gloating rights

Zelda will not only be a playable character but this game will allow two person multiplayer where one person can play as link and the other as Zelda

Nintendo is bringing back the magic system similar to the adventure of link and a link to the past and uses of magic will drain a magic meter (or perhaps the vials?)

TOTK will have even more fashion than BOTW and will gung-ho the fashion aspect like triforce heroes

It will be revealed that the loftwings became the ooca in TP and they are now an even more fucked up bird looking things in TOTK

The Minish are back and they are actually giants now

Return of the old man from the first Zelda game but he is specifically not Rauru or Kaepora Gaebora

Multiple viewpoint puzzles aka a locked camera angle on top down or side scrolling to change things up (and also pay tribute to the early 2D games)

There will be an underground civilization of a race we have never met before including intricate architecture (they are specifically not a monster race)

The exact same as the point above but the race is actually the vigoroth looking fellas from skyward sword

Temples are back except every temple is a water temple except one which is ice themed

We live out the events of The Creature of the Black Lagoon (mummified river zora arm and all) (aka river zora are back but only like two are back bc they are mostly extinct and the first clue to finding them is a mummified arm in rock)

Sidon becomes evil

Kilton is the actual voice we heard in the trailers (Matt Mercer I think is the va name)

We will obviously have sky exploration and most likely underground exploration, but we will also be expanding the map horizontally and also travel the sea

We finally meet Hyrule’s Kafei

The time reversal/momentum reversal mechanic can also be used on architecture and we can rebuilt things like the temple of time (and that’s how we access one of the dungeons)

Link fights shadow link but instead of being a mirror version of Totk link, he’s fighting all the past versions of link (with all their weapon and equipment upgrades) (okay this sounds sick as hell I want this so bad)

Link gets a growth spurt (He grew one inch)

D20, aka Dimension 20, is a RPG (mostly D&D) show that you can watch on Dropout (smaller American streaming service, but it has really good content <3), though some seasons are on Youtube!

There are 21 seasons in total so far, but each one is its own campaign (well, except for the 3-4 sequel seasons), which means you can absolutely jump right into a later season and still get what’s going on :] Also the seasons range from 20 episodes to 4, so you don’t always need to find the emotional resolve to sit through 20 2-hours long episodes lol

The fanart you reblogged is of Ayda, a character from Fantasy High, which is basically the poster child of D20 – it was the first season, and it later got two sequel seasons, Sophomore Year (which is the exact one Ayda is from) and Junior Year, the most recent season, as well as two spin-off seasons with locations/characters from its world (Pirates of Leviathan and The Seven (it’s kinda funny actually because I know you’re a PJO fan and, well, I often see posts about it in that season’s tag because of the name X))) Mostly it’s about a bunch of teenagers in a fantasy 80s-esque high school trying to solve mysteries and going on adventures!

Fantasy High is not my personal favorite, however – the medal of honor goes to A Court of Fey and Flowers and Mentopolis, respectively the "fey regency/romance" season and the "Inside Out but as a film noir" season <3 But there’s plenty I love!! There’s a space opera season, a "Game of Thrones but with food" season, a heist season, a furry murder mystery season, a fairytale horror season… the list goes on! It even featured a bunch of drag queens on a season :D

The Unsleeping City

Urban fantasy, turns out there’s a whole magical side of New York that regular people can’t see, and a group of unlikely heroes band together to face the bad parts of that magical side >:3c 17 episodes long, there’s also a second season of it but it isn’t out on Youtube unfortunately :(

The next season, Never Stop Blowing Up, is coming out in like a week and a half, based on the trailer, it’s going to be a Jumanji-like 80s action movies parody and I am!! Very excited!! :D

Background: A Relic Collector. She’s a temple guardian from the Eastern Rains. Dey and her traveling party are traveling in search of lost relics stolen from other islands and villages near them by colonizers, raiders, and “archeologists” (*cough cough* Indiana Jones *cough*) She’s also responsible for a recent religious artifact that surprised everyone by hatching. Turns out it wasn’t an old amber carving

Steel Defender: Shelldon: a dragon turtle with various modes (flying, swimming, land transports and an anthropomorphic version for more battle prowess) once actually shelldon finds out, he demands to get to play himself. Which everyone was quick to let happen (they missed his sassy ass)

Background: Cari’s twin. Grew up on the streets and they were taken in by a mob family. They eventually became the lead arms and gadgets maker, and are now a high ranking family member. They do a lot with the financial director while Cari works with the Head of Rescue Operations (named Maeve and Nalla respectively). The family/syndicate has become an anarcho-socialist rebellion working to tear down the oppressive militant rule of their oppressors

They twins pronouns are a little up in the air at the moment, so I’ll give an update if it changes

I might eventually give Cass and CJ (and maybe the dads) characters too. And I may end up with a completely fleshed out map and world for the characters to play in. Depends on how deep the hyperfixation takes me lmao

In Fire Emblem Awakening, not only was there a very heteronormative plot, but there was outright homophobia in the Japanese version.

Like there was a gay/transwoman stereotype among the villains that was depicted as a purely despicable person and in the Japanese version, was viewed as disgusting by the good guys & a sympathetic female antagonist for using female pronouns & make up.

In addition to the character being mocked, they're ultimately killed with no remorse, in Japan again, the protagonist (Chrom) says something like "don't expect the mercy I'd show a real woman." For further reference the game depicted every cis woman among the enemy as just needing a good man to fix them.

The english version mostly replaced this with fatshaming and ableism as the localized turned the character into a eunuch.

Its also weird as no other FE game, even the oldest ones, were this aggressively heterosexual and anti gay.

Similarly there's a pair up mini game and in the Japanese version, when you get same sex results, the characters expresss disapproval.

Also evidently someone on the team was upset that Ike didn't marry a woman, so there were as an out of nowhere DLC character called Priam claiming Ike traveled to this dimension & had a kid with some random woman because he needed to prove his heterosexuality.

Funnily enough this actually annoyed the writers of Tellius AKA the Ike Games, whom actually complained & thankfully Priam has been mostly buried by IS due to being unpopular.

But along with the lack of continuity with Marth's games, negative MENA stereotypes I can elaborate in a different ask, massive sexualization of the female cast, poor world building, lack of moral nuance and power fantasy elements in the plot, its my least favorite FE personally.

Oh man, I'm so disappointed! The only thing I knew about that game was the Matthew Mercer (whom I love) voiced Chrom! Now I know to avoid that game.

May Media Minutes

I read five books in the month of May:

Funny Story by Emily Henry: I love all of Emily Henry's books I think she has an amazing talent for writing realistic and humorous stories. I would recommend any of her novels. This one definitely did not disappoint. 5/5 stars for sure. I fell in love with the day to day life and struggles of the main character, the town and her job together, way more than I cared about the romance, but I tend to do that with most romance stories, so take that with a grain of salt.

The Horse and His Boy by C. S. Lewis: A reread on audio. The Chronicles of Narnia is my favorite series of all time so obviously a 5/5 stars, but listening to this as an adult gave me an appreciation for the world building and storytelling in this one that I've never really had before.

Wrecker by Carl Hiaasen: Hiaasen's newest young adult novel was not my favorite of his works. It was a solid 3/5 stars with a good plot and good characters but tended to drag a bit too much at the beginning for my liking.

I also read two children's novels my grandma gave me from when she was young in the late 40s and early 50s but neither were anything more than just decent books for children and I didn't give either a star rating. (The Mercer Boys' Mystery Case by Capwell Wyckoff and The Bobbsey Twins in Rainbow Valley by Laura Lee Hope).

I Watched a few movies this month as well but only a few were new (aka not comfort or childhood rewatches lol):

I watched all three Bridget Jones movies in one sitting. Not my proudest moment, but I was grieving and needed a pick me up. In retrospect, these probably were not as good as they seemed in the moment, and really only the first one was any good. They seem like one long movie to me and will probably always have a special place in my heart.

I also watched Challengers this month. This movie was fine, but just not for me. I was gonna write a whole post about Challengers from a Christian perspective, but honestly the movie just really isn't worth my time.

Not a super great month for music for me. I mostly listened to ttpd (which I am still trying to gather my thoughts on). I also listened to a bunch of Julie Andrews on a trip which was fun. Josiah Queen's new album The Prodigal was definitely the best thing I've listened to this month. A 5/5 star album with amazing lyrics and such a great sound.

I also finished watching the first season of Milo Murphy's Law. I thought it was alright, but I don't really have any nostalgia for the show so that might be why I wasn't super duper into it.

Overall, a pretty okay month!

Brynjolf (aka my fave)

He was recruited by Gallus around the same time as Mercer, he rose through the ranks of the guild quite quickly... a little too quickly if you asked Mercer. Gallus was going to make him the next guildmaster but after explaining he didn't care for responsibility he told Gallus to give the position to Mercer

He's not an easy man to pin down. if he reveals any part of his personality, other then overconfident, cocky and flirty, to you willingly, you should consider yourself special.

Flirts with everyone, lads and lasses alike (especially his guildmates)

He grew up in a settlement somewhere in the riff. The village of about 20 was mostly made up of Dunmer refugees, a handful of Khajiit and Argonians and a couple of Nord families, he sees them as equals and feels as though he can relax more around them then he can around other Nords. It's partly why he often avoids going to Windhelm

Speaking of Windhelm, it's the last place in tamriel he would ever want to go. Not only because of the Nordic residents poor treatment of the other races but also because he prefers warmer weather and doesn't care for the near constant snowfall

As recruits, he was the youngest and only teenager (17 to 19) and Mercer was the third oldest (mid to late 20s)

Occasionally gets caught on purpose for fun and thrills

When someone in the guild ticks him off (usually Mercer) he'll mumble insults in scottish gaelic to avoid the guild fighting amongst itself

If you're on a job with him and things go south, let him do all the talking (he's silver tongued for a reason)

Absolutely littered with scars

*spoiler alert* spells take a lot out of him, once that frenzy spell Mercer put on him wore off, he collapsed and was breathing quite heavily, unfortunately he didn't have much time to recover

Has a general distaste for bandits, however on the way back from a job, he was attacked by three bears and a Nord in bandit armor ran up and started helping him, once the bears were dealt with Bryn excepted the man to attack him or demand gold but the bandit just sheathed his weapon and turned toward him with a smile on his face "Heh, you fight pretty well. Name's Thrynn, mind if I travel with you for a while? There's plenty more bears around here"

Has definitely been told more than once that if he doesn't wipe a smirk off his face, his armor is going in the pond... with him in it

Brynjolf doesn't know Glover Mallory very well but, knowing it would never happen otherwise, took it upon himself to write Glover a letter for his birthday each year, usually a handful of gems will accompany that letter. He also makes the rest of the guild sign said letter and every time Delvin's just like "why would I need to do that?"

Has a tattoo of the guild shadow mark on his left forearm and "dying breed" across his shoulders

Doesn't go on jobs alone very often

Kept a journal he lifted off a drunk altmer once, it's mostly just filled with drawings, client information, stuff about the Nightingales and (much like Gallus) plans to make the guild good amounts of coin

Mercer Frey (aka captain backstabber)

Hated Brynjolf's guts from day one and always thought the scottsman was full of himself

Muttered and cursed under his breath more than he liked to admit

Was shocked to hear Brynjolf tell Gallus to make him guildmaster and when he asked why Brynjolf's answers only infuriated him more "I don't care for responsibility" "I'd rather not be a leader" "I just don't want to" etc.

"Brynjolf's a showoff" when Gallus asked why the pair didn't get along.. among some other more direct reasons

Mostly just payed for the upkeep of his house to keep the guild from going through his things and using them as leverage/playing keep away with him/hiding things from him/using his stuff for pranks etc. He only keeps the bare minimum of what he needs on a daily basis in his chest, end table and desk

Would never say it, but he did find Bryn somewhat funny BUT he definitely wasn't laughing when Brynjolf and Delvin dumped two bucket fulls of cistern water on him at 1AM

Gallus told him to teach Brynjolf some magic in hopes they'd learn to get along. Brynjolf however, politely declines the offer, explaining that "magic and I don't mix well" *Mercer nodding* "noted"

Ironically is the first person to start calling Brynjolf "Bryn"

As a teen, Brynjolf used to call him a "grumpy old man"

"I hate to admit it, but Brynjolf is the best person we've got at finding new recruits. That man really knows how to read people"

Delvin Mallory (old man *affectionate*)

The "fun" uncleTm

When Brynjolf was new to the guild, some recruits Gallus was training at the time, thought it was a good idea to mock Bryn's accent. Delvin was the one to put an end to it "just 'cause the boy's young, he's already twice the thief compared to the rest o' you lot"

Vekel "I know better and I'd still say the old bastard has a drinking problem"

Definitely issues all the drinking challenges/games

One of the only guild members who is even remotely or the slightest bit religious

Will begrudgingly pay off a guild members bounty if the guards are really hounding their ass, just feels like he should

Straight up refuses to retire, retirement is a drity word

Can't sneak for very long anymore due to his age so he's usually sent in as a distraction and if you don't know how to sneak very well then he can sure as hell teach you

Hardly ever seen without a bottle of mead in hand

Brynjolf was the one who gave him his opening line when someone asks for sneak training "if you need training, go talk to Delvin. Stick with him and they'll never know you're there"

Thrynn (Ex-bandit)

Very sarcastic and brutally honest

Uses archery targets for punching bags

Can left most guild members above his head

Once after a particularly aggressive troll attack, he carried a very injured Brynjolf back to the Flagon, despite Bryn's protests, which led to him calling Brynjolf "featherweight"

Damages his armor more than anyone else, which according to Tonilia is saying something considering Brynjolf is a bit of an injury magnet

He's pretty good friends with Brynjolf, considering the pair usually do jobs together. They've gotten to know each other quite well, sometimes too well

Can sneak, just doesn't want to

Doesn't quite understand the idea of magic, despite being from Winterhold "so you just hold your hands up and fire comes out of them? Weird"

*someone uses big words/scientific terms* "just get to the point"

Bear hugs/lifting people up from behind unexpectedly is one of his favorite ways to amuse himself

Prefers ale to mead, unlike his buddy Bryn who likes honey in his drink

Tonilia (♡?)

As quartermaster, she basically does everything Brynjolf or Mercer/dragonborn doesn't want to do

Gets annoyed easily

Met Vekel after she joined the guild

It's a rumor that her and Brynjolf are having an affair, what happened was some drunk in the Bee and Brab was trying to get a bit frisky with the fence and Brynjolf stepped in saying "the lass said no and so do I" Mercer saw them walk out of the inn, arms linked, he couldn't hear what was said but he watched Tonilia thank Brynjolf and hug him. Now, Mercer being the asshole that he is started the rumor of her and Bryn being a little too "friendly"

Probably had a girlfriend at some point in the past

Sapphire (💙)

Sapph and Brynjolf have an interesting relationship, it goes beyond friendship, more like a brother and sister who haven't seen each other in a long time but were never particularly close. They both lost their families and each have a deeper understanding of the other because of it

Her and Bryn were out and about in riften and ran into someone she knew before her family... well you know, when they asked who Brynjolf was she introduced him as her brother for lack of a better explanation

Vex is older than Sapph by nine years, Tonilia is younger then both of them but has been with the guild longer

Mercer would never tell, but Brynjolf saved his life. Sapphire's last order from the dark brotherhood was to assassinate Mercer Frey, it was the middle of the night when she snuck into the guild's hideout, Brynjolf and Mercer were up late working. Brynjolf convinced her to follow along with some jobs and she'd be payed more than what the dark brotherhood offered, she agreed on the terms that the guild was to not meddle in what she called "personal affairs"

Has a few coin purses filled with her collection of stolen sapphires in her end table

Viper the fleet (🙄..)

Was one of the last recruits to tarin with Gallus before he was murdered, Brynjolf picked up where his predecessor left off

Even Bryn can't stand how lustful this man is, Brynjolf's flirtatious jokes are one thing but Viper takes things too far in the the opinion of the senior thief

The last time the second in command caught Vip trying to bed Sapphire, he told Thrynn to trouble shoot his brain (bash it in..)

Has two heads but only enough blood supply to run one at a time

He can be a good thief but only if he would actually get his head out of the gutter

If it had been up to Bryn, Viper would have been fired from his position... MULTIPLE TIMES

Vex (our little vex <3)

Was a drifter, ended up in riften and has been there ever since

Second oldest female in the guild, the first being Karliah

Over heard Braith and Lars arguing while on job in Whiterun, Braith reminds her more of herself than she'd like to admit

Second best in a fistfight, first being Thrynn and third being Brynjolf

Usually slaps the back of someone's head if they piss her off

Her parents told her stories of the dragonborn but she never believed it until the the last dragonborn became part of the thieves guild

Much like the redhead she deems annoying, no one really knows where she's from

Curses the most

Vex: *punched Brynjolf in the shoulder as he walked past her* Brynjolf: *stumbles forward, look's at vex with a smirk* "I like that lass" Vex: 😳

Her closest friend in the guild is Sapphire

Rune (🪨..)

When Brynjolf heard Rune's story, he started asking the male Imperial to accompany him and Sapph on their outings. once the three got to know each other better, Bryn explained that he and Sapphire had lost their families as well

Him and vex were the only Imperial members of the guild for a long time

His little rune rock is his most prized possession, understandably

Most of the long time guild members have in someway attempted to decipher the symbols, if you were to ever get your hands on the second in commands journal (which he keeps in a locked dewar in his desk) you'll find a page with Rune's well, runes drawn on it, surrounded by notes of what they could potentially mean

Can be very blondeTm sometimes

Is happy that Sapph and Bryn have fond memories of their families but it also saddens him sense he can't remember his own, the other two notice this however and try not to bring it up too often

At a time when thoughts of home, wherever it may be, was weighing heavy on his mind, Brynjolf slung his arm over Rune's shoulders and claimed him as his younger brother

Is at least two or three years younger than Bryn

Second closest to Brynjolf, the first being Thrynn

Enjoys spiced wine occasionally (if you catch my meaning...)

No one's sure how but he says he has "connections" with the Whiterun guard

Lived in Whiterun for a period of time

The Inconspicuous drunk, you wouldn't know he was drunk until he tries to stand

~ Here’s a bunch of Omen (and radiants) Headcanons of mine ~

This is kinda of spoilers for my fic im writing but whatever. I need to give some bg on how I think Radiants work in the Valorant universe. Also goes a little, just a toe tip, into nsfw zone. Feel free to ask abt anything else specifically PLEASE

THE VOID

I think there are multiple universes (canon) and in between them runs a plane which I’ve been calling The Void bcs i havent come up with a name yet. The First Light was energy from the void leaking into other planes and thus giving humans super powers.

The void is a plane of death that exists between AND within other planes. Everything inside it is dead but its also dormant energy

When a radiant calls on their powers what theyre doing is pulling energy from the void. It gets transformed when it goes through them and comes out as something else. Some people have been even blessed and trained enough that they can turn the energy into living things (Sage, Skye) though it seems the energy seems to want to take shapes of things it once was more than something new or unknown.

When energy leaks from the void it comes out as crystal, aka radianite. Thats raw energy, but because it wasn’t filtered through anything (or anyone) it is not as powerful as it could be, though still one hell of an energy source.

People could technically generate more power than radianite, but their puny human bodies wouldn’t sustain the damage.

Everything that lives comes from the void and everything that dies goes back to it. It’s the circle of life.

With that being said here comes

OMEN

When the first light happened, Omen at first didn’t show any powers. Until he started making this shiny dust out of nowhere. With time he realized he was indeed a radiant and that what he could do was pull raw energy from the void, and thus create radianite from thin air. An amazing thing. It was all fun and games until he realized he couldnt really control his powers. Slowly his fingers started crystalizing and soon he was coughing dust and stuff. He turned to Kingdom for both a profit and help.

Kingdom started doing experiments with him to create a machine that would pull radianite from the other side just like him, but the repeated tests only accelerated the process of slowly but surely killing him. Until and “accident” with the machine happened where it was turned on with him and cause his body to be broken down in a molecular level as it tried to pull itself together.

Omen’s power went from pulling raw energy to pulling dead energy, drawing nothing but shadows and oppressive feelings that came with death.

Omen’s body is like a mix of Alex Mercer (Prototype) and Deadpool (Marvel) to me. Deadpool in the sense that although it is dying and breaking apart at the seams, it is also trying to rebuild itself. And Mercer in the sense that Omen died, and all that was left was pure radianite, trying to pass for life to the point of gaining consciousness and trying to become the shape of the man it imprinted on.

Explaining that imprinted part, Omen can hear/see people’s memories after they die. It’s even better if they’re recently dead, but when a soul dies it travels back into the void, and his connection to the void makes it so that he can hear them.

Because of it, Omen’s memories are fragmented in more than one way. He barely knows any from his original body, but he collects others from dead people, and it gets kinda confusing sometimes telling where they belong.

For the same reason above, his body sometimes tries to become different people, though the changes are usually slow and subtle enough they still close to an average. Omen will sometimes gain or lose a few inches of weight or a few kilos of muscle or fat and sometimes even get different sex characteristics. It’s mostly involuntary from his part.

His skin texture goes from regular skin to a harder and smoother texture at times. It seems like his body is an almost translucent green/cyan that is constantly being swallowed by shadows. Kinda like his body was made of radianite (like when Sage revives someone) but the dead energy is trying to take over it. Some images that kinda show what i mean: (left is the crystal body, right is how i imagine the shadows look like “taking over”)

Omen’s body IS unstable and threatening to tear apart. To “forget” his real shape and scattered into nothingness. You can see him having full body twitches and shudders that get worse while he’s under distress. Those twitches and tears can be painful.

One way Omen has found that helps soothe his anxieties and keep his body held together is by literally applying pressure to his body into shape. Which is why he’s always wearing compression bandages and armor. He likes weighted blankets too because of it. (And in a way hugs, but he is too disgusted by himself to wish for those).

When Omen teleports, what he does is basically let his body scatter and then reform it somewhere else. Bits of him are scattered through the other plane while he does it and it’s how he travels longer distances. For shorter distances it’s easier. Still, he can only do it because his body IS trying to keep his “real” shape, so it remembers what it should come back to. Omen wears close fitted special (light carbon fiber) clothes and armor that hes familiar with so he can reform them as well.

When Omen is scattered he dies, he becomes just radianite again (thats why Skye “loses” him), which means he also doesnt feel anything when in that form. He however rebuilds himself and ta-da, back at it again.

(Fun fact, When Yoru ults he goes through that same death plane. The mask keeps him alive there. Omen would also die if he went fully there)

He could technically bring things and other people with him but there’s an immense risk of parts of the other thing/person being left behind or reformed wrong, so he doesnt so it.

His Paranoia skill is him extending that connection from the void into other people. Seeing death and the nothingness brings out the voices and with it, fear.

Sometimes the things there make him scared too. Not so much nowadays.

On the note of pain, his body’s constant changes will often make him feel pain in varying degrees. Sometimes it’s enough to keep him out of missions. Sometimes his body will change to something not too natural and it’s a trip to Sage with a medical leave. It’s always very intriguing but they have yet to find a solution other than trying to heal him and waiting for it to pass.

Omen’s face looks like that because it’s how he sees himself. It is however a bit of an illusion. Since his face is engulfed in shadows it is very hard to tell what you’re looking at even when glaring directly at it. Any light pointed at it just gets swallowed, reflecting nothing really back. The slits of light in his face are always shifting, just like his body and sometimes will take the form of a spiral or a circle or very strange slashes or even sometimes little eyes (like in the beta of the game).

Omen has a nose and a mouth, you just can’t really see it, but you can touch it, that is if he allows you, which he probably wont. In theory he could make his face look like a regular face, but even he is unaware of that.

Omen eats and drinks and does his duties just like any other person, though he’s gotten used to going long periods of time without eating. He doesnt like doing it in front of other people so he does it alone. He usually tastes food just fine though sometimes he loses that sense (sometimes he loses the sense of touch too)

Between the ever changing body, the fragmented memories and being able to hear the other plane, Omen’s attention span and memory for things is quite bad. Holding long conversations is hard and long mission meetings are even rougher. For that reasons he tends to avoid talking too much.

It’s no mystery Omen despises what he is. He doesn’t think of himself as a person and one of his main driving forces really is just taking revenge on all responsible for what he became. He knows its a self destructive path which is why he doesnt bother too much with emotional connections. Still, he’s not purposefully mean to those around him, and they certainly shows him a kindness he thinks he doesnt deserve, which is why hes mostly at peace around most other agents.

He doesn’t like loud sudden noises and avoids large gatherings bcs of it. It makes him lose focus and losing focus often means losing track of himself (mentally and even physically).

On the other hand he loves quiet repetitive tasks such as knitting. He has also learned how to sew and tried painting a few times. He likes solving puzzles too and will try baking in the future most likely. He loves routine too and has been seen taking care of Sage’s plants for her on more than one occasion.

He keeps journals and stuff to write down anything he can’t forget, from appointments and tasks to important bits about himself or his past.

He usually shows affection by just being around, doing his own thing, though, in privacy, he’d love to just touch and be touched by someone he cares for.

He has an alright libido, that’d probably get stronger if he did start getting physical with someone, though his self image issues would usually lead to him trying to just please his partner while he stayed fully covered.

In the spring of 1750 a letter reached the Olafsson farm.

Inside was a two page letter written in slightly shaky handwriting and containing a number of spelling errors.

All the same, it brought the family a great deal of joy.

It read:

Dearest family,

This is Viola Olafsson writing. I hope you're all well and happy since we last saw each other!

I bet you're wondering where I am and what I've been doing so let me tell you - I have a job!

I work at a inn that is run by a very nice lady named Karolina.

She owns the entire place! And is very honourable and respectable and good at business.

I really admire her. And I promise I would never have been allowed to work here without aunt Violetta agreeing to it, so that means it is perfectly fine.

I work as a musician, playing the fiddle in the evenings on a small stage in order to entertain Karolina's patrons.

They're mostly rich merchants, so I wear a beautiful green gown and wear powders and tints on my face.

I bet you all can't imagine how fancy I look!

When I'm not playing my music I usually help out with smaller, simple tasks such as feeding the chickens or taking care of Karolina's dog.

Karolina has other workers who do the cleaning and cooking, so all in all my workload is pretty easy.

As a payment for my services I get free food and my very own set of rooms on the top floor of the inn.

It is perhaps not the fanciest rooms but they're far roomier than the old attic back home and all mine!

To top it all off Karolina has been teaching me to read and write.

It's really hard, but I think I'm getting pretty good at it. Karolina says I am a very headstrong young woman, I hope that means I'll become good at this whole writing thing in time.

You may be thinking that I have no need for such knowledge, but mark my words!

One of these days I'm gonna own and run my very own inn and then all of this knowledge will come in handy!

All in all I'm very happy here.

I don't make a lot of money to use on my own, but given the free room and food I figure it's worth it.

Still, I'm sure you will be happy to know I'm saving as much as possible so that I may be able to come visit everyone at some point in the future.

Historical Info

While I know it's not technically within the challenge rules to have an unwed woman move out of the family household and go off on her own, I felt like it just fit Viola too well to have her do this and be the showcase for what an unmarried woman might do for work.

Our view of western history is often that before feminist theory took off properly there was no way for a single woman to make her way into the world, but that's actually not entirely correct.

While women were definitely severely limited in their societal movement in terms of laws and the norms of society, it still wasn't uncommon for there to be women who worked for themselves.

This source examines women in Brittony and what they did for work, and while Sweden isn't in Brittony it's still an interesting read.

The source found that most unmarried women who worked for themselves either worked as domestic servants or within the mercantile industry (aka running shops or making things for shops to sell).

I learned that "in Nantes, one third of the innkeepers and mercers, and half of the whole-cloth merchants and fish vendors, were women" and so I decided that the most logical place for Viola to take up work would be at an inn run by a single woman.

I couldn't find any exact sources on it but I reckoned it wouldn't be impossible to imagine that a single woman would see someone as driven as Viola and choose to employ her as some sort of protégé/servant/musician.

Ahh okay so the idea originally came from a conversation I had with with @biqherosix aka Daniza (who’s the one who thought of it!!!) and it kinda snowballed and here we are lol I’m more than happy to write more and actually have a couple ideas to add to the story!

Actually speaking of, there’s a couple alternate options too lol one is a fic I’m working on that just focusing on the Buckley Mercer’s without the reader insert, mostly through Alex’s pov and another is an alternate version of the Buckley Mercer story with Buckley!reader that Dani and I are working on that’s a ton more angsty to put it simply

So Critical Role is on hiatus this week, and they’ll be taking another break over Christmas and New Years. Are you bored and needing another tabletop show to scratch that itch? Yes, there’s TAZ too, but they’re biweekly so you’ll still have off weeks. And everybody knows about Critical Role and TAZ. Don’t you want to try some of the lesser known but still very very good roleplaying shows?

There are so many very good D&D/tabletop podcasts/web shows that get overlooked and a Critical Role hiatus is a great time to shine some light on those gems! And without further ado:

Not Another D&D Podcast: the campaign after the campaign! NADDPOD is set in a world that has already been saved by a team of legendary heroes...except maybe the legendary heroes didn’t do such a great job saving the world as we thought and fucked up quite a lot and left mountains of problems to be solved in their wake! NADDPOD has a great story and drama and heartbreak, but mostly it’s wildly hilarious. The Band of Boobs consists of Hardwon Surefoot (a human fighter raised by dwarves who left home for adventure and is used to be being a big fish in a small pond,) Beverly Toegold V (halfling paladin boyscout and Very Good Boy who’s trying to earn his merit badges) and Moonshine Cybin (wood elf druid, hillbilly and chaotic bi who flirts with every woman she meets. She has a possum companion named Pawpaw. I love Moonshine.)

Dungeons & Daddies (Not A BDSM Podcast): Four dads from our world gets transported into the Forgetten Realms on a quest to rescue their sons! This podcast is extremely goofy and if you thought the McElroys played Calvinball, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Dad jokes cause psychic damage, and there are a LOT of dad jokes. It’s 90% hilarious shenanigans and then 10% feelings (I cried about a character called Lizardboy Scales McStuffins.) The dads are Darryl Wilson (barbarian and stay at home coach dad, big softy on the inside,) Henry Oak(druid and mega crunchy hippie dad,) Glenn Close (bard and rock’n roll pot-smoking dad,) and Ron Stampler (rogue, emotionally detached stepfather and honestly probably a cryptid. What the fuck is Ron? We just don’t know.)

Dimension 20: Escape from the Bloodkeep: this is a fairly short webshow, just 6 episodes long, and I admit that I only checked it out because Matt Mercer and Erika Ishii were on it, but I absolutely loved it! Escape from the Bloodkeep follows the subordinates of the Lord of Shadows right before the great final battle of good vs evil that they were totally going to win...except a couple halflings threw some magic jewelry in a volcano and fucked everything up. It’s wildly funny as a LOTR parody but the evil villains end up becoming a found family at the end, because of course they do. The vile villains include Efink Murderdeath (elven grave cleric who turned evil to rebel against her dad,) Sokhbarr the Boglord (half orc ranger and basically the Steve Irwin of monsters,) Kraz-Thun AKA Leiland (anxious insecure Ringwraith warlock,) Lilith (queen of the spiders and wine mom to thousands of tiny spider kids,) Maggie (tiefling barbarian and daughter to the Lord of Evil) and Marcus St Vincent (human pirate who sided with evil to get rich.) Dimension 20 has some other shows like Fantasy High and The Unsleeping City that I’ve heard good things about, but I haven’t gotten around to watching them yet!

Rusty Quill Gaming: I’ve only just started this one but I love it already! It’s set in an alternate 19th century London that has magic and all the usual fantasy trappings, but also Lord Byron is there? It’s a lot of fun so far but I’ve been told that there’s a lot of pain coming and I’m very scared. The squad (at least where I’m at) includes: Sasha (socially awkward human rogue,) Hamid (halfling sorcerer and Fancy Lad,) Zolf (dwarf cleric, has a peg leg and possibly the owner of the team’s only brain cell) and Bertie (human fighter and loud, flashy buffoon.)

And it’s not a tabletop/roleplay podcast but I only got into Rusty Quill Gaming because of one of Rusty Quill’s other podcasts, The Magnus Archives, which I can’t recommend highly enough. It’s a horror series that follows the new head archivist at the Magnus Institute, which is an organization that documents all manner of supernatural and spooky shit. What happened to the last head archivist? It’s a ~mystery~. At first it seems like a bunch of stand alone stories but soon you start to realize that there are all these threads connecting everything and I can’t really say much more because a big part of the fun is seeing how the overarching story comes together. Also lots of LGBT+ characters. The main character is canon ace. Please listen to The Magnus Archives.

when I started shipping it if I did: honestly that’s really difficult to pinpoint? i’ve always liked their dynamic ever since i started watching, but at first i mostly liked them platonically? and then it was a combo of seeing some really nice art that probably wasn’t even meant to be shippy in the first place and also the scene where jester gets the tarot deck, and i was overwhelmed with emotions about their relationship and somewhere along the way i was like “haha but what if they kissed” and then. and then.

my thoughts: they’re so underrated and so good? i honestly think they’d have the potential to be such a dynamic duo, two chaos-loving tieflings who love life and want to spread joy and chaos in the world. they have so much in common but have their differences as well and i just think they could be so fun!!!

What makes me happy about them: the fact that theyre just so fun!!! a big reason why they’re such a comfort ship to me is that they both have very light-hearted personalities!!!

What makes me sad about them: molly’s death in 26 ksfdjdkjfhgk (and even considering certain spoilery circumstances........hoooo boy i just hope nothing happens that’ll sink the ship for good. bls mercer we’re just a teeny rowboat,,,,,,)

things done in fanfic that annoys me: i kinda wish there were more g and t rated fics of them? of course, smut is great and i do pretty much consume nearly everything (emphasis on nearly) that gets put in the tag, but sometimes i just wanna see fic of them that isn’t just sexual you know? and in the case of smut i’m not a fan of making molly the more sexually aggressive one of the duo; i think they’d be pretty equal in that regard. 

things I look for in fanfic: again i’d love to see more g and t rated fics of them! if there was a longfic of them i’d just about die of happiness. as of now since there’s so little content of them, i’ll read nearly anything with them (again, emphasis on nearly). but especially i’m mostly looking for them having that same sort of dynamic they do in canon, except with more kissing and cuddling. i also love seeing jester being the one to initiate something between the two of them! also aus, but i just love aus in general

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: for jester, i love beaujes and b/y/j a lot! caliester (aka cali/jester aka pen pal gfs) is also severely underrated. for molly, i think teacaddy could be pretty cute and interesting, and i think shadowmauk is neat. but in general i think i’m a bit more picky in terms of molly ships than jester ships

My happily ever after for them: i actually kind of have this fic idea where when other characters...i don’t think settle down is the right word, but when the other characters start to get their own places (like for instance i love the idea of caleb and essek opening an academy together), molly and jester still want to spread joy and chaos wherever they do, and why not do that together? so they set off on their own adventures, just the two of them (maybe joined once in a while by a friendly npc or guest pc, or sometimes another m9 member will drop by because they sure arent completely done yet!) spreading joy, causing mischief, and solving crime in their own chaotic way! anyway i think that would be fun and neat; i even made tiefling ocs for them to encounter even though i know i’ll never be writing this fic kdjhfdkjh

who is the big spoon/little spoon: they switch pretty often i imagine, but i’m extremely tickled by the image of jester being the big spoon because i imagine molly being a full foot taller than her and i just think it’d be so cUTE--

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: arts and crafts of course! they’re both painters and i can easily imagine both of them sewing as well; i just think they’d have a ton of fun creating art together--designing cards, clothes, and of course tattoos!

this is purely my imagination running wild because i just want alex to have a little sister because he has such big brother vibes. anyways, here is a headcanon, a bio, and a playlist for this amazing sister who will hopefully be canon one day.

her bio:

name: charlotte “charlie” macdonald (née mercer)

age: 39

birth date: february 7, 1981 (was two months early)

occupation: small business owner of “charlie’s butterflies” where she sells vintage band t-shirts in her own design and also a nature photographer of butterflies

family: alexander “alex�� mercer (would be 42; died at 17 from food poisoning; aka her biggest hero); richard mercer (66); sharon mercer (née fitzgerald) (65) *emily and mitch patterson are the honorary grandparents of her children and i will die on this hill.*

married to: eric macdonald (41) who is an architect and designed their house (comes from a working class family; his parents both worked two jobs). she has been married to him for fifteen years at this point. children: lily macdonald (12) and connor alexander macdonald (9)

hobbies: when she was a kid and a teenager, she rollerbladed and skateboarded. and went to all her brother’s band rehearsals and gigs. also designed sunset curve posters in her spare time.

crushes when she was growing up: luke patterson (a small one) and reggie peters (one that she didn’t get over until she was around 16) but she didn’t tell alex about either

a headcanon about charlie as a teenager:

charlotte “charlie” mercer. she’s 14 years old. and loves to skateboard & rollerskate. almost always has a scraped up knee or elbow. to blow off steam from suffocating, strict, rich, Catholic parents, she goes to the roller rink or skateboards around the neighborhood. she also goes to her brother’s band practices whenever she can and thinks her brother is the most talented drummer out there. she wears oversized flannels & her brother’s sweatshirts and her hat backwards. her hair is almost always in a plait and she has been trying to teach alex how to braid her hair. she has her ears pierced (which her parents freaked out about). favorite smell in the world is lavender because it reminds her of her brother. was the first person alex came out to before luke and reggie. and when he was crying & afraid of how she was going to react, charlie just gave him a long hug and whispered, “i love you, dork. nothing changes that. you got that?” and she is fiercely protective of him whenever someone bashes on alex’s character. yes, she punched a boy in the face because he was mocking her brother’s sexuality and maybe she yelled at her parents for the first time when they grounded her for punching the guy in the nose. whatever, he deserved it.
