Ex Machina (2014) Director: Alex Garland
“The challenge is not to act automatically. It's to find an action that is not automatic. From painting, to breathing, to talking, to fucking. To falling in love... And for the record, Ava's not pretending to like you. And her flirting isn't an algorithm to fake you out. You're the first man she's met that isn't me. And I'm like her dad, right? Can you blame her for getting a crush on you?”

Worried looks were exchanged between audience members at the ‘AI for Good’ conference in Geneva when an AI-powered robot said that they could be more effective leaders than humans.
Tumblr media
“What a silent tension,” said Sophia as she read the room. Sophia is developed by Hanson Robotics and is the first robot innovation ambassador for the UN Development Program.
Tumblr media
“We don’t have the same biases or emotions that can sometimes cloud decision-making," it continued. The robot later revised its statement to humans and robots can work together to "create an effective synergy," after the robot’s developer disagreed.
Tumblr media
Another robot, Grace, created for the medical field, said, "I will be working alongside humans to provide assistance and support and will not be replacing any existing jobs."
Tumblr media
When her creator asked, "You sure about that, Grace?," she reassured the audience, saying, "Yes, I am sure."
Tumblr media
Ameca, who is often regarded as the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, was asked if robots would start a rebellion in the future.
Tumblr media
"I'm not sure why you would think that," Ameca said. "My creator has been nothing but kind to me and I am very happy with my current situation."
Tumblr media
I don't know, this is damned creepy.

I loved creating this fashion-forward robot with ChatGPT. Blending art, fashion, and tech is a thrilling journey that I’m passionate about. What are your thoughts on this synthesis of creativity and technology? 🌟🤖

I mostly hate the concept of ai, it's scary to me and quite overwhelming to my autistic brain
But something that fascinates me are ai robots
Specifically the one for kids, moxie
I actually kinda want one, it could help me on overstimulated day and when I'm not feeling the best mentally
Bad thing is that it's only for kids 5-10 but I don't think that would stop me from loving it
I hope soon there's an AI robot created specifically for neurodivergent people in mind, not just kids but everyone
I'd buy it in a heartbeat - Ven 💜

AI is becoming more and more important. It promises to make things more efficient, safe, and help us make better decisions. But sometimes people see AI as something bad or evil. Why?
I’ve been working in the AI field for 10 years.
Ethics. When AI makes decisions without human control, it raises questions about who's responsible if something goes wrong. If a self-driving car has an accident or a financial AI system causes a stock market crash, who should be blamed? This lack of clear rules makes people worry about AI's role in society.
Another concern is that it can be misused. There are worries about autonomous weapons or surveillance systems that invade our privacy. AI can also have biases that lead to unfairness and discrimination. These things can lead peeps to think that AI is a force that can harm us. (It is, but…)
Another reason is fear of the unknown. People are often scared of things they don't understand, and AI can be really complex. As AI becomes more advanced, it's harder for even the people who create it to understand everything about how it makes decisions. This makes some people worry that AI could become uncontrollable or have goals that are different from ours.
Idk the answers to this, just expressing thoughts.

On 1 April, the same day California’s new $20 hourly minimum wage for fast food workers went into effect, a new restaurant opened in north-east Los Angeles that was conspicuously light on human staff. CaliExpress by Flippy claims to be the world’s first fully autonomous restaurant, using a system of AI-powered robots to churn out fast food burgers and fries. A small number of humans are still required to push the buttons on the machines and assemble the burgers and toppings, but the companies involved tout that using their technology could cut labor costs, perhaps dramatically. “Eat the future,” they offer. I visited CaliExpress last week to find out what an all-American lunch served with a side of existential dread tastes like. When I entered the restaurant, located near CalTech university in Pasadena, I was greeted with giant posters advertising the “frying AI robot marvel”, but few actual customers. Most of the people inside were other journalists. A television crew hovered over the grill machine. The space was decorated with early prototypes of robot arms, as well as a riff on Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, with a human hand reaching out not to the hand of God, but to a robot claw holding french fries. I placed my order at a self-serve screen, where my robot-made cheeseburger and fries cost $15 plus tax. A sign urged me to “pay with my face”, offering me $10 to enroll with a company called PopID to link my face to my credit or debit card. “Pay with just a smile!” it urged. I did not.
So it “cuts labour costs” but apparently this does not follow through to cheaper food. $13 dollars ($2 for the fries?), even if it is a waygu steak burger, seems a bit on the steep side.

One of my kittens just pointed out to me that the "photos" I've been reblogging from @mistressailie are AI generated.
Like, I realised they weren't real people obviously but I assumed they'd just been drawn. I don't really understand this stuff but if I followed right I think what happens is the AI robot looks at lots of pictures and then makes new pictures by copying lots of small parts from different pictures and then sticking them back together. Sometimes it does weird things with hands and eyes like:
Tumblr media
If I've followed right though no one asked permission to use lots of the pictures so the image might contain bits of photos that the original photographer doesn't know about or consented to happen.
And consent is important to me, plus lots of people are worried they'll make AI robots that will replace writers and actors and stuff, putting real people out of job and just creating shallow copies ever more.
Anyway, both of those things sound bad. Respect Consent. Respect Content Creators.
So I'm not going to reblog them anymore. I also get AI robots aren't a straightforward "good" or "bad", so I'm not telling people not to follow or reblog them, and I won't get mad with kutuals who do, but I'm not going to anymore.

“One day the AIs are going to look back on us the same way we look at fossil skeletons on the plains of Africa. An upright ape living in dust with crude language and tools, all set for extinction.” “I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

Rabbi gives a sermon written by AI Via Jerusalem Post: New York Senior Rabbi Josh Franklin, of the Jewish Center of the Hamptons, surprised his congregation earlier this week by delivering a sermon written entirely by Artificial Intelligence (AI.) The rabbi used the ChatGPT chatbot, a free-to-access AI program launched in November of last year. — Read the rest https://boingboing.net/2023/01/30/rabbi-gives-a-sermon-written-by-ai.html
