The Ides of March — a day of the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC — that forever changed history.
Julius Caesar's bloody assassination on 15 March 44 BC, forever marked March 15, or the Ides of March, as a day of infamy.
It has fascinated scholars and writers ever since. For ancient Romans living before that event, however, an ides was merely one of several common calendar terms used to mark monthly lunar events.
The ides simply marked the appearance of the full moon.
But Romans would soon learn to beware the Ides of March.
That iconic phrase came to represent a day of abrupt change, setting off a ripple of repercussions throughout Roman society and beyond.
By the time of Caesar, Rome had a long-established republican government headed by two consuls with joint powers.
Praetors were one step below consuls in the power chain and handled judicial matters.
A body of citizens formed the Senate proposed legislation, which general people's assemblies then approved by vote.
A special temporary office, that of dictator, was established for use only during times of extreme civil unrest.
Romans had no love for kings. According to legend, they expelled their last one in 509 BC.
While Caesar had made pointed and public displays of turning down offers of kingship, he showed no reluctance to accept the office of “dictator for life” in February of 44 BC.
This action may have sealed his fate in the minds of his enemies.
Caesar had pushed the envelope for some time before his death.
“Caesar was the first living Roman ever to appear on the coinage.”
Normally, honor was reserved for deities. He notes that some historians suspect that Caesar might have been attempting to establish a cult in his honor in a move toward deification.
Plot's conspirators, who termed themselves as “liberators,” had to move quickly as Caesar had plans to leave Rome for a campaign against Parthians.
Two days before his departure, he was summoned to Senate for what would be a fateful meeting.
Conspirators gathered around Caesar and stabbed him to death as the rest of the Roman Senate watched in horror.
Whether or not Caesar was a true tyrant is debated still to this day.
It is safe to say, however, that in the mind of Marcus Brutus, who helped mastermind the attack, the threat Caesar posed to republican system was clear.
Brutus was famously portrayed in William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar as a tragic hero, while Caesar was written as an unequivocal tyrant.
In the play, Caesar sees Brutus among the crowd of assassins and says of the betrayal with his dying breath, "Et tu, Brute?"
Brutus's involvement in the murder is made tragic given his close affiliations with Caesar.
His mother, Servilia, was one of Caesar's lovers. And although Brutus had fought against Caesar during Rome's recent civil war, he was spared from death and later promoted by Caesar to office of praetor.
Brutus, however, was torn in his allegiance to Caesar. Brutus's family had a tradition of rejecting authoritarian powers.
Ancestor Junius Brutus was credited with throwing out the last king of Rome, Tarquin Superbus, in 509 BC.
Ahala, an ancestor of Marcus Brutus's mother, had killed another tyrant, Spurius Maelius.
This lineage, coupled with a strong interest in Greek idea of tyranicide, disposed Brutus to have little patience with perceived power grabbers.
The final blow came when his uncle Cato, a father figure to Brutus, killed himself after losing in a battle against Caesar in 46 BC.
Brutus may have felt shame over accepting Caesar's clemency and obligation to do Cato honor by continuing his quest to “save” the republic from Caesar, Osgood speculated.
It is this moral dilemma that has caused debate over whether or not Brutus should be branded a villain.
Plutarch's Life of Brutus is quite sympathetic in comparison to surviving documents naming other enemies of Caesar and his successors.

Lashes, or oarlocks, are the small but essential pieces of equipment that rowers use to attach their oars to their boats. But for the average boat, they come with a hefty price tag.
The cost of lashes is based on the type of wood used to make them, the size and shape of the lash, and the hardware used, all of which can drive up prices. The type of wood most often used is a dense and lightweight hardwood, like teak or ahala, which is expensive. Add to that the cost of the metal components - rivets, cleats, swivels - and the price can easily reach several hundred dollars (or more, depending on the type of boat).
But why do lashes have to be so expensive?
First, the amount of craftsmanship needed to make a quality set of lashes is considerable. They may appear to be simple pieces of hardware, but in reality they require a great deal of skill and precision to make. It's not a process that can be done quickly and cheaply.
Second, the weight of the lash has to be taken into consideration. Because it's a critical part of the rowing equipment, and because rowers have to exert a lot of energy to move a boat, they need a lightweight lash that won't drag the boat down. Lightweight, high-quality wood is the best option to meet this requirement.
Finally, the hardware also adds to the cost of lashes. These components are necessary to keep the lash properly affixed to the boat and make sure it doesn't slip under the pressure of the oar. But they aren't cheap - adding the necessary metal components can easily double or even triple the cost of a set of lashes.
As you can see, lash cost is driven by necessity and by the craftsmanship and materials required to make a quality set of oarlocks. But considering how critical they are to a safe and successful rowing experience, they're definitely worth the investment.

Caesar's supporters now hosted their friends or relatives among the conspirators for dinner. Under a promise of safety, Brutus went to his brother-in-law Lepidus, while Cassius went to Antony. There followed surely the two most tense reconciliation dinners in Rome's long history. No detail survive of Brutus's dinner at Lepidus’s, but Lepidus might have felt Caesar’s presence there, just as he felt it on the Speaker's Platform that morning. After all, Caesar had dined at Lepidus’s only the day before his assassination.
At his dinner with Cassius, Antony is said to have engaged in black humor. He asked Cassius if he had a dagger under his armpit, possibly a reference ro the famous asassination of a would-be tyrant by Brutuss ancestor, Servius Ahala, who concealed a military dagger under his armpit. If so, it was a subtle dig at Cassius, who lacked such a family tree. Cassius supposedly responded harshly, saying that he certainly did have a dagger- and a big one- if Antony was eager to be a tyrant. But big daggers don't fit under armpits.
It was not difficult for educated nobles like Antony and Cassius to exchange barbs and break bread. Coming out on top of the political struggle would be harder. Restoring peace in Rome without another civil war would be the toughest task of all.
obsessed with this situation???????

AIRE ZABALEKO ESPAZIOAK
Gaurko klasea gure unibertsitateko sarreran hasi da. Bertan irakaslearekin geratu gara eta ezer egin baino lehen, aire zabaleko espazioei buruz hitz egiten egon gara. Etorkizuneko irakasleak bezala, jakin behar dugu aire zabaleko espazioak ondo erabiltzen eta aprobetxatzen. Azken finean, haurrak aire zabaleko espazioetara eramatea helburu batzuk izan behar ditu, bestela ez du ezertarako balio. Gure irakaslea, kontatu digu, bere semea txikia zenean, haurtzaindegian marmeladarekin trasteatzen egon zela ariketa sentsorial bat egiten. Baina, irakasleak galdetu zuenean ea zer lantzen ari ziren tailer horrekin konturatu zen haurrak ez zutela helburua ulertu eta ez zekitela ariketa zertarako balio zuen. Horregatik beti ziurtatu behar dugu ariketa baten helburua argi eta garbi dagoela.
Aire zabaleko espazioak gure irismenean daude eta ia oso gutxi erabiltzen ditugu baina haurrak gauzak era desberdin batean ikasteko modu bat da. Hau praktikan jartzeko baratzera joan gara. Bertara heldu garenean, irakasleak jakinarazi digu baratza lantzen joan direla ikasleen eta zenbait adituen laguntza eta proposamenekin. Poliki-poliki leku bikaina sortu dute 4 urte gorako umeekin joateko eta han hainbat ariketa egiteko. Ondoren, baratzaren plano huts bat eman digu 4 galderekin. 20 minutuz baratza behatu, plano bete eta galderak erantzun ditugu. Hortaz aparte, argazkiak edo bideoak egiteko aukera eman digu.
Hasieran, pixkat galduta egon gara eta pentsatzen genuen ia ez zeudela landareak edota, ikusten genituen gehienak ezagutzen ez genituela. Hala eta guztiz ere, denbora aurrera joan ahala eta baratza ondo aztertu ondoren, zenbait landare aurkitu ditugu.
Anekdota bezala, baratza aztertzen ari ginenean, laguntxo bat agertu zaigu urmaelaren ondoan eta bi ikaskideak izutu egin dira. Gure laguntxoa, igel txiki bat da eta gure irakaslea igela hartu eta guri erakutsi ondoren, urmaelan utzi du berriz.
Klasearen amaieran, azken bost minututan, batu egin gara berriz guztiok, eta orokorrean galderen inguruan hitz egiten egon gara, zalantzak argitzen eta etorkizuneko baratze klaseetan egingo dugun jardueren inguruan hitz egiten egon gara.

More reading analysis for school. This time catfight edition
In the year 63 BC Roman consul Cicero delivered a series of searing speeches that, to all intents and purposes, strangled the second Catilinarian conspiracy to death. Said conspiracy, as well as the senate’s response, remains one of antiquity’s classic political struggles: Lucius Sergius Catilina, or Catiline, dissatisfied with his failure to obtain the consulship the previous year, began to orchestrate an insurrection and amass an army, up until a failed assassination attempt by the conspirators drove Cicero to convene the senate and expose Catiline.
Cicero’s speeches, translated literally by C. D. Yonge, begin with a slew of rhetorical questions that each pack their own punch. He denounces Catiline’s “unbridled audacity”, asking him when he intends to “cease abusing [the senate’s] patience”. He drills the awareness of the senate to the conspiracy into Catiline with his use of parallel structure, and implies that all of Catiline’s private activities are public knowledge. I found myself both thrilled and terrified upon reading Cicero’s speech for the first time: one can only imagine the ordeal of being its recipient.
Catiline fled Rome soon after the delivery of the Catilinarian orations, and Cicero had several of his co-conspirators condemned to death without trial. Thus he placed himself among the ranks of other Romans who quelled unrest, echoing his implications in his first speech, where he strengthens his own ethos by likening himself to Gaius Servilius Ahala, a man regarded as a hero for killing a conspirator against the government. Cicero’s justice, though arguably underhanded, brought an end to the insurrection and led to Cicero’s veneration as a father and protector of Rome.
The Catilinarian orations are a classic exercise of political power. Is an execution without trial ever justified? Actions taken for the greater good of a nation may also do substantial harm to its subunits. Furthermore, sources suggest that the strength of Cicero’s response was spurred by a desire to buttress his consulship. The stage of politics is perpetually complex, and the motives of its actors can never be plain.

Bazen behin garai ilun bat, non beldur sakonenak egi bilakatu zirenak, non agurrak tendentzian jarri zirenak eta non bihotza kizkurtzen hasi zena. Aldaketak etorri ziren eta ez bereziki positiboak.
Garaia aurrera zihoan bitartean, arremanak atzean geratzen hasi ziren eta bihotza geroz eta gehiago kizkurtzen zen. Horrek ekaitza ekarri zuen eta bakardadea.
Mina, haserrea, amorrua, pentsamendu gogorrak... agertzen hasi ziren eta bakardadearen sentimendua handitu egin zen.
Bat-batean, buruak klik bat egin zuen eta tristura eta ezinegon horiek burutik joan ziren eta eguzkia bazegoela ikusi zuen. Korapiloak askatu, arnasa sakon hartu eta abestiak abestuz aurrera egin zuen.
Denbora pasa ahala, garai hori errepikatzeko aukera bazegoelaren susmoa usaintzen zen, baina tresna eta baliabide gehiago zeuden airean, ondorioz, atearekin eman zion.
Garai hori pasa omen da beste buruetara. Laguntza eskatzen dute isiltasunean, nire buruak eskatzen zuen bezala, baina laguntzarik ez zen heltzen. Besteei bai... Prest nago laguntzeko, baina mina ez da joango.
Garai hori ez dadin errepikatu, eskua emango dut eta iragana iragan bezala jarraitzea egingo dut. Eta iasta. Egora txarrenetan daudenekin geratu, eta ez besteekin.

Speaking of Tyrannicide, Brutus feels a compulsion to undermine and slay any tyrant he meets, similarly to how Brynhildr will inevitably try to destroy anyone she loves.
In Brutus’ case it comes from a combination of the deed that shaped his being as a Heroic Spirit being one of Betrayal and Tyrannicide, as well as being descendant of two other Roman Tyrannicides.
#one of the tyrannicides he was descended from was Gaius Servilius Ahala#who was said to have killed the tyrant in question with a blade concealed in his armpit#the dagger brutus uses for his noble phantasm is kept in a hidden sheath under his arm because of this#the other tyrannicide is supposed to be Lucius Junius Brutus#which might be baseless but hey this is my version of him so#my city now#fate brutus

4. ABESTIA: GURE ANIMALIAK
youtube
Aupa talde! Gaur gure ikasleekin “Gure animaliak” abestia landuko dugu. Abesti hau lantzeko, zuek (irakasleek) haurren aurrean jarriko zarete hauek zuei imitatzeko aukera izan ditzaten. Abesti honetan, zenbait animali agertzen dira bakoitzak ekintza bat egiten. Kasu honetan, haurrek bereganatu behar duten informazioa ez da hauek egiten dituzten soinuak (onomatopeiak) baizik eta aipatutako animaliek egiten dituzten ekintza edo mugimenduak. Adibidez; “Elefante Martin atzeraka dabil” esaldia entzutean, haurrak elefante bat izango balira bezala; hau da, besoekin tronpa bat egiten, atzeraka ibili behar dute. Abestian agertzen diren ekintzak behin eta berriz errepikatzen dira eta abestia aurrera joan ahala, ekintzak errepikatzeko gero eta zailagoa izaten da hauek egiteko baldintza batzuk narratzaileak esaten dituenean. Hala nola, “hanka baten gainean”.
Haurrak abestian agertzen diren ekintzak ulertu dituzten ala ez ziurtatzeko egingo dugun jolasa “Simonek dio” moduko bat izango da. Zuek (irakasleek) abestian esaten diren esaldiak eta esaten ez diren esaldiak esango dituzue, eta haurrek abestian aipatzen diren esaldiak bakarrik errepikatzen badituzte, ulertu dituztela esan nahi du.
