As much as I like the idea of exploring the hero from 10,000 years ago, I don’t think “time” will be in the title on account of Nintendo really doesn’t like to reuse key words. Which is a smart idea as it gives each game a distinct identity that won’t get muddied up with others in the same franchise just because of a similar title.
For as much as LoZ has dabbled in time shenanigans, the word itself has only appeared in the title Ocarina of Time. Looking through the LoZ titles, there’s only a handful of titles that have reused a key word, Four Swords Adventure being a perpetrator of two words, “sword” (Skyward Sword) and “adventure” (The Adventure of Link). The only other repeated words in the titles are “Link” and “oracle”, which the last one I’m not even sure counts since Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons look like some sort of link/counterpart games or something. (I guess “age” could count if you include the Hyrule Warriors title, Age of Calamity?)
So the BotW2 title probably won’t being using any key words from past titles. “Sky” is almost certainly off the table since that would blur its identity with Skyward Sword too much. Ocarina of Time is arguably the most famous title in the LoZ franchise, so I doubt Nintendo would intentionally shove BotW2 into its shadow by also putting “time” in the title. “Heavens” could be a possibility, though that word has a good chunk of religious iconography and connotations attached to it that I’m not sure if Nintendo would feel comfortable attaching it to one of their games. “Islands” could work, depending on what the rest of the words are. Though, a part of me thinks that, in the two trailers we were shown, whatever the new game has been titled after hasn’t been shown to us yet. At least not in its entirety.
I think the new title will have the word Zonai in it, what are your ideas on the new title?
Ten bucks on the word “time” being in there
