Following the coworker you've mentioned just a few too many times home is child's play, and it only takes a few seconds to drag his claws across their throat, to dig his teeth into their jugular and shut them up before they can scream. It's just like killing a rat, something you've praised him for a thousand times, even if he still cringes when the taste of iron hits his tongue.

#1: Fics I Want to Write - Rediscovering Vulnerability and All Aspects of Love (a Modern AU MoShang fic)

SQH just lost his best friend, GYX, of ten years to cancer. Upon this death, it makes him realize love. What it means and how scary it is.

From then on, he drops out of college his senior year, unable to finish and get his degree in English because that future was for him and GYX, and gets a job at a library.

He’s been a librarian for years. Seven, to be exact. Everyday he gets home from his work and slumps into couch, pulls out his phone, and writes. When he doesn’t get the chance to write, all of his heartbreak—not dulled at all—forces itself on him and consumes his mind. He cries. SQH wants, wishes, and cries for his best friend.

One night, he decides he should go out. He had become a bit of a hermit, going to work, shopping, and then going home. A mundane cycle overshadowed perpetually by sadness and despair. Loneliness, too.

So, spontaneously, he puts on a leather jacket and some ripped jeans and goes to a host club. He feels kind of pathetic about it, but it… friendship. Or, some sort of relationship that he could probably afford would be enough.

He goes with his co-workers. It’s a host club for women, so he’s a bit out of place, but he goes anyway.

The moment he steps into the club, it’s warm. One of his co-workers—Sha Hualing, was it?—drags the weary man to a board where multiple men’s headshots are. She says something about their archetypes and asks what he wants, he shrugs.

Honestly, he should remember everything that happened and led up to the night, but his world was so small and it continued to be before it exploded.

The host club was boring. So-so. His co-workers loved it. He stepped out and found himself vulnerable. He reached in his pockets for his phone, hands shaking, but he couldn’t find it. Shang Qinghua couldn’t write. He couldn’t hide.

He crumbles to the ground, his breath hitching. He was in a rather clean alleyway, thankfully, so when he sat he wasn’t accosted by horrible sensations. Shang Qinghua covered his face with his hands as tears rolled down.

Oh, Gongyi Xiao. He missed him. Oh my god, he missed him so much. He wasn’t there with Shang Qinghua and Shang Qinghua didnt have the comfort of his phone to write out angst. He cried.

Shang Qinghua didn’t noticed when a figure stepped out of the club and didn’t notice when the figure saw Shang Qinghua having a panic attack.

Like a movie, Shang Qinghua feels someone hoist him to his feet and wrap their arms around him. The man in the figure’s arms is shook. He collects his disoriented state and shakily speaks asking who it is.

A low, indescribable tender but cold voice replies. It’s definitely a man who speaks.

“You were crying alone. Alone is the worst way to cry. You looked like you needed to be… Held.”

Shang Qinghua’s vision wavers and his heart blooms. It explodes. Tendrils of sorrow and sweetness encroach his ever grieving mind. He feels more loved than any moment in these last seven years.

Shang Qinghua is outside for a while with that stranger. He was held for a long time. His body pressed himself into the man’s chest and closed his eyes. His fists curled into balls into the stranger’s shirt.

The man didn’t speak. He let Shang Qinghua cry. He felt safe. He grieved.

Since Shang Qinghua’s head is pounding from all the tears cried, he pulls away. He mutters, “Ah, this one thanks you for being kind. I apologize for taking up your time.”

“Don’t apologize. It’s depressing and pathetic. You didn’t waste my time for I chose how to spend it.”

Shang Qinghua blinks and rubs his face, a “im sorry” almost leaving his lips. Instead, he says, “Wh..what’s your name?”

“Mobei Jun. I’m one of the hosts.”

“Oh, haha. Were you at my table with my co-workers? I’m sorry. I should know your name and whatnot.”

“I wasn’t.”

“Do I, uh… Ahem, do I have to pay you…?”

“No.”

Thus begins Shang Qinghua’s journey from out of the gutter. He also decides that maybe… He’ll give vulnerability a chance again. He becomes a returning customer of Northern Ice Host Club.

Along the way, his world becomes huge. Daunting, but exhilarating.

This whole fic would be how Shang Qinghua rebuilds and learns to live with his grief and not by grief. It would heavily explore friendship and letting people into your space.

Mobei Jun and Shang Qinghua’s romance wouldn’t start as romance, it would start as friendship. Slowly developing as Shang Qinghua visits the Host Club.

Somehow, Shang Qinghua meets (and becomes close with) the manager of the host club, Shen Yuan, who reads the novel he writes.

It would be an extremely heavy fic with comfort and healing. I like exploring pain through these silly characters. To write and fantasize about it somehow heals all of the pain I experienced—even though it’s not remotely as drastic as what I would be putting Shang Qinghua through in this fic.
