There’s clearly a lot of debate around DEI today, with Trump banning it from being a consideration in the federal government, and places like Target & McDonald’s scrapping their DEI programs. Because of how so many people are reacting to this, I’d love to see what DEI programs are like at other companies. It’s nothing like affirmative action.
At the Fortune 500 company where I work, it’s a big part of competitiveness & management training. The focus is on making the best teams with all sorts of people, & how to learn from them to serve customers better and build a competitive edge.
Our DEI courses are straightforward; they primarily teach us to examine our own biases. Those biases could be against black women, white men or people with uncontrollable hair, but the point is to get the best talent, and to get the most out of that talent by listening to them, making them welcome, and by being aware of different needs. The stance is that Diversity follows from Equity & Inclusion, and that all three create better business outcomes.
There are essentially no such thing as a “DEI hires,” so I’m always a bit confused by the use of that term. They’re just hires. We’re simply required to consider candidates equally, to follow the law, and to hire whichever candidate we think will meet the company’s needs the best.
That’s it. DEI is a responsible business practice, but it’s not much more than that.

Oliver Willis at Daily Kos:
Donald Trump has a long history of racism, from excusing the actions of Nazis to promoting the racist birther conspiracy theory. Trump also surrounds himself with racist advisers like Stephen Miller, who is currently formulating the administration’s harsh immigration policy. Trump continued this approach in the first few days of his second presidency by issuing a series of executive orders meant to undo past actions by the U.S. government to address the harmful effects of racism. Trump and his fellow Republicans have for years attacked programs meant to counter racism and encourage diversity, attacking diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. They have falsely claimed that these programs prioritize mediocrity over qualified individuals and decision making. But in reality, the anti-DEI crusade has been a smokescreen for rolling back civil rights.
In his executive order “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity,” the Trump administration made this posture clear. The order explicitly rescinds Executive Order 11246, which President Lyndon Johnson signed in 1965—an order Johnson used to desegregate federal contracting. As the Department of Labor website explains (for now, at least), the Johnson order “reinforced the requirement that federal contractors not discriminate in employment and take affirmative action to ensure equal opportunity based on race, color, religion, and national origin.” The department also notes that the Johnson order—now gone, thanks to Trump’s actions—were a “key landmark in a series of federal actions aimed at ending racial, religious and ethnic discrimination.” Reversing an order meant to attack racism and pro-segregation policies was described by the Trump administration in a release as “protecting civil rights and expanding individual opportunity.”
[...] The administration issued an order instructing the Department of Transportation and the FAA to “immediately stop Biden DEI hiring programs and return to non-discriminatory, merit-based hiring.” The order claimed without evidence that increasing diversity in transportation programs somehow makes travel more dangerous for Americans. As evidence, the administration pointed to a January 2023 FAA outage as “an illustration of the importance of FAA competence.” But in reality, as the FAA determined at the time of the outage, the cause was a corrupted database issue that occurred when files were deleted by mistake by a contractor. That’s not exactly a diversity issue.
Racist-in-Chief kills LBJ’s 1965 EO that desegregated federal contracting as part of his racist quest to end DEI programs.

No uproar about legacy admits or white women being the largest group of beneficiaries of Affirmative Action I see.

What's really horrific is the same 14th Ammendment designed to protect Blacks from white racism is being used today by 6-fake SCOTUS justices to deny Blacks protection from white racism/supremacy.
Beyond pathetic!

To any American reading this of voting age. Or will be of voting age for the 2024 election… VOTE! Vote vote vote. Register to vote. Ensure your friends are registered to vote. If it wasn’t clear before the SCOTUS decisions in the last two days have spelled it out clearly.
If you are not an able-bodied cis white heterosexual man, you are at risk. They will strip away your rights, they will do everything they can to make sure you are erased. That you are silenced that you are dead.
And if you think that your vote doesn’t matter. That there is no point. Then they have won. You have already let them win. You have let them control you.
They will come after you. If you are not a cis white male you are a target. You are disposable. And you will eventually lose your basic rights as a human being. Because if you are not a cus white man… to them you are not human. Simple as.

So in the coming days you’re going to notice that a lot of white people (“allies”) who rightly post constantly and routinely about things like canceling student loan debt, abortion rights, LGBTQ issues, immigration reforms and other glaring social injustices, will suddenly have nothing to say about Affirmative Action being overturned. Not because they haven’t had time to form an opinion, but because they believe that “reverse racism” against white people is a real thing, and deep down they agree with the ruling. Pay attention. Take mental notes. These people are not our allies. Believe people when they show you who they really are.
