Hmm.. I think I will answer these for my selfship with Elena! It’s been a while since I talked about her, but I have decided that I want to =D

🌙: Favourite nighttime activity? - The one that comes to mind first is birdwatching! This may seem strange as a thing to do at nighttime, but the monologue she gives before you fight her as an Elite Four member is all about the beauty of birds in the night sky, so it’s clearly something she does and that is important to her. Her type specialties are Ghost and Flying, so it makes sense! I had the idea once of the two of us going birdwatching out on the Beryl Bridge, since it’s very high up and overlooks not only Reborn City but also the Tourmaline Desert to the north, so a lot of the sky would be really nicely visible. As part of this idea, I could imagine one of us spotting a Shiny Pokémon in one instance of this, which - whether it was simply something spotted in the sky, or an actual encounter that perhaps resulted in it being caught by other one of us - I think would be really special~

🌹: Do you two like PDA? - I think Elena definitely would! She’s very.. what’s the word I’m looking for that’s not “gushy”? Effusive? Demonstrative! when it comes to affection and praise for her love. (We see this in-game when she's referring to her husband, who.. I really should figure out what to do about in the context of my version of events, but for now I'm tentatively saying she's polyamorous.) However, I tend to think of Adriana as comparatively much more reserved, especially when considering that a) Elena very much isn't and b) this selfship is set in the first timeline so it isn't as if Adri has any of the latent confidence of being (unknowingly) anamnestic to fall back on. So, I think PDA would be a very easy way of making Adriana feel a bit embarrassed or flustered.. which, given what Elena is like, probably means it's something she does quite a bit -w-

Just Sing — VoicePlay music video

In times of societal stress, art is not just a good thing, but a necessity. It connects people across time and distance, uniting us through the expression of common emotions. So when VoicePlay found themselves unable to create videos in person, they did the same thing as many others around the world — they went remote. Since everyone filming in the comfort of their own homes meant that geography was no longer a concern, the guys reached out to a couple dozen collaborators spanning decades of recordings, and brought them together into an uplifting chorus of supremely talented voices.

Trivia:

As Layne notes in the outro, VoicePlay donated their revenue for this video to MusiCares, which provides support to musicians in need. Their services were vital during a time when live performances weren't possible. This campaign raised over $170,000!

This project got a nice write-up on Broadway World to help promote the video and associated fundraiser.

VoicePlay's previous song from the Trolls franchise was released almost exactly two years earlier in May 2018.

Kristina's dad Pasquale also sang in the high school chorus that spawned 4:2:Five / VoicePlay, though he was a couple years older.

Liam's dad Sean Gerrity was part of the rotating cast when 4:2:Five were in the Polar Express Conductors show at SeaWorld in 2011.

Rachel was VoicePlay's first guest singer in a music video, and remains one of their most prolific, despite having moved first to Nashville and then New York. (When these guys really like someone, they don't let go easily.)

Mykal was the group's original high tenor way back when they were a high school barbershop quartet called 4 The Love, and into the early days of 4:2:Five. He left the group when the older boys graduated.

Tony has joked that he sees the VoicePlay guys more now than he did when he was a member of the group. Considering how frequently they film in and around the PattyCake studio, it's not much of an exaggeration.

Darian (aka DeeDee) is one of many friends the guys met during the fourth season of The Sing-Off. She was the final collaborator on their "Collide" project, and later recorded a duet with Layne during his paternity leave.

Emoni may have started as a fellow Sing-Off competitor, but she quickly became a dear friend and frequent collaborator. She has guested in music videos, joined them for both the first Sing-Off tour and a series of educational workshops, and plays Ursula in PattyCake's Villains Lair series. Not to mention becoming an honorary auntie to Layne's youngest daughter.

Sarah was one of their youngest Sing-Off pals, as her group Vocal Rush was in high school at the time, but she was a powerhouse even back then. When this was filmed, she was about to return to her alma mater and take over directorship of the group she helped to found.

Tim's group Home Free and VoicePlay have often been compared or even pitted against each other by fans ever since The Sing-Off, but the guys themselves have liked and supported each other from the beginning.

Honey was a theme park buddy from way back, and enjoyed joining the guys for The Sing-Off. There was a bit of friction between them after she wasn't able to join them for the tour, but it's nice to see that the passage of years and some extraordinary circumstances could bring them together again.

Matthew was another theme park pal, and was in serious consideration to replace Tony as the group's baritone back in 2017.

VJ and his group The Filharmonic are yet more Sing-Off alumni, who the guys got to know well on the 2014 tour. When VoicePlay joke about passing the torch to "younger, cuter" guys, it's not hard to see where they got the idea.

Adriana was their most recent new collaborator at the time, and has returned for a number of full-length videos and shorts in the ensuing years. (But she still wasn't old enough to drive yet here.)

Elizabeth is a friend from the guys' early days in the theme park scene, when she was a member of the Voices of Liberty at Disney World. This is her first onscreen appearance with them, but not her first (or last) collaboration.

Anthony is also part of the extended theme park community, and was supposed to appear in a different video before the quarantine put the kibosh on that plan. They've definitely made up for that disappointment in the years since, though.

John always seems to appear during times of uncertainty. His first collaboration happened after Tony left the group, this was put together during lockdown, and his third appearance came about after Earl retired. (That's just coincidental, right?)

Although Scott left the group to pursue acting in 2003, he's always been supportive from afar, and maintained ties with their extended friend group in Orlando. He even gets to show off his vocal skills in the course of his acting jobs sometimes.

Jeff was not only an inspiration to the youngsters in 4:2:Five as a member of Rockapella, but quickly became a colleague and a friend. He produced their first eponymous EP, and has created several pieces of artwork for them over the years.

Jarrett occasionally subbed as 4:2:Five's baritone when Ryan Reed was starting to step away, and helped produce VoicePlay's "Once Upon an Ever After" album. The guys have enjoyed seeing him find success as both a part-time member of fellow a cappella group Take 6 and in the film industry.

As the guys noted in the Patron behind the scenes video, this project was (by necessity) new and unique in a lot of ways.

A group of fans created a tribute version a few years later using the karaoke track available through VoicePlay's Patreon.

This ended up being Earl's last video with the group, a fitting final bow, even if they didn't know it at the time. It almost feels like everyone came back to give him a great big send-off party.

VS SHOW FASHION REVIEW: MY FAVS

THE BEST: we’re starting off with my top three, Bella Hadid, Lila Moss, and Paula Soares.

10000/10, I absolutely loooove these three looks, I love the pink fur coat and the stars on the bra in the second one.

I also love Bella’s coat, and that the lingerie is more simple and lets the big coat shine. Face card never declines, as always.

Paula’s is probably my favorite, I love when VS does rockstar themes (like in 2017). Her hair, the long sleeve, the star bra, it’s so cool. The wings on the heals aren’t my favorite, but they’re not horrible.

RED: Adriana Lima, Grace Elizabeth, Candace Swanepoel, Vittoria Cerreti

I love this Adriana look wayyyy more than her first one. I would have loved to see her natural curls with this looks or with a classic VS blowout.

Grace and Adriana both have similar sets/rompers and they both look stunning. I didn’t love the wings with the writing, some of them looked a little cheap, but I do think the one’s Grace is wearing looked the best.

I love Candace’s ribbon bow on the back and her makeup and hair go together so well.

I absolutely love Vittoria’s top here and her shoes. I feel like 95% of the wings this year sucked (and they gave them to some actual angels while other angels didn’t get them, which is odd) but hers look good with this look.

GOLD, SILVER, AND BLACK GLAMOUR: Irina Shayk, Alessandra Ambrosio, Ashley Graham.

I love Irina’s train (is that what you’d call it?) and her dark hair looks gorgeous with the look.

I’m so glad Alessandra got wings and they are beautiful. Truly a gold dust woman.

Eles correram atrás de suas melhores marcas pessoais em um cenário especial: a icônica Ponte Hercílio Luz, reaberta ao público na última segunda. U.S. boosts support for Ukraine (BBC) President Biden opened NATO’s 75th anniversary summit on Tuesday by announcing more military aid for Ukraine. Mr Biden described Nato as a force for democracy, in contrast with "autocrats" who sought to "overturn global order". His remarks also portrayed support for Nato as a bipartisan issue in the US. His rival in the upcoming presidential election, former president Donald Trump, has been less steadfast in his commitment to Nato members, whom he criticised again during a campaign rally. For all Mr Biden's reassurance, allies such as the UK are already making contingency plans for a Trump victory in November.

Metal Thieves Are Stripping America’s Cities (NYT) The 6th Street Bridge in Los Angeles is wired to glow with colorful lights celebrating the city’s spirit. But the bridge, known as the “Ribbon of Light,” goes dark at night now. So do stretches of the busy 405 freeway and dozens of street blocks across the city. And in Las Vegas and surrounding communities, more than 970,000 feet of electrical wiring, the equivalent of 184 miles, have gone missing from streetlights over the past two years. The lights are going out across American cities because thieves have been stripping copper wire out of thousands of streetlights and selling it to scrap metal recyclers for cash. The wiring typically fetches only a few hundred dollars, but blacked-out lights pose safety hazards to drivers and pedestrians, and are costing cities millions to repair. Metal theft has been an urban plague for decades, often rising alongside commodity prices. But the combination of the economic ills and social malaise lingering since the pandemic and soaring demand for metals, especially for copper, has brought this street crime to new levels.

Record-breaking heat suspected in at least 7 deaths as temperatures soar across U.S. (NBC News) The sweltering heat wave gripping parts of the U.S. has shattered heat records and sparked an air quality health advisory, and it is suspected of having contributed to at least seven deaths. More than 130 million people across the West, the East Coast, southeast Texas and South Florida were under heat alerts Tuesday, and a huge swath of the Western U.S. sweltered in “red flag” conditions because of the risk of wildfires. More than 1.5 million customers in Texas were still without power Wednesday afternoon, depriving many of air conditioning during the heat wave, 48 hours after Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the Gulf Coast.

They Fled Oppression at Home, but It Followed Them Abroad (NYT) The line outside the Venezuelan Consulate in Madrid stretched down the block. Pregnant women, families with small children, older people and those with disabilities arrived as early as 4 a.m.—five hours before the office opened—trying to register to vote in Venezuela’s highly anticipated presidential election. UK’s overflowing prisons present PM Starmer with early crisis (Reuters) The scale of the challenge facing Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s new government is writ large in Britain’s prisons, which are within weeks of being too full to accept new inmates, leaving the government with unpalatable and costly choices. Britain has western Europe’s highest rate of incarceration, according to the World Prison Brief database and faces a crisis after a new building programme failed to keep track with tougher sentencing laws that have fuelled a growing prison population. Already many prisons are housing two inmates in cells built for one.

Fed up with tourists, Barcelona protesters blast them with water guns (Washington Post) Thousands took to the streets of Barcelona over the weekend to protest overtourism, some armed with brightly colored water pistols that sent bewildered visitors fleeing restaurant patios, abandoning half-eaten meals. The protesters, who carried signs reading “Tourists go home,” say tourism has inflated the cost of living for Barcelonians, while the revenue from visitors hasn’t been fairly distributed across the city. As travel rebounds after the end of pandemic restrictions, the frustration in Spain reflects growing backlash against overtourism around the world.

Italy is a hotbed of volcanic activity (The Week) Italy’s Mount Etna and Mount Stromboli, two volcanoes only 180 km apart, have both erupted in recent days, spewing smoke and ash into the air. “Etna, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, has seen intense activity in recent days, lighting up the sky near the city of Catania, while Stromboli off the northern Sicilian coast has spilled lava into the sea,” said USA Today. However, these volcanoes only represent a fraction of the threat Italy faces. Italy has 12 volcanoes total, with nine still considered active, and the country is prone to earthquakes and other seismic activity. One of the most famous disasters resulting from this combination is the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which destroyed the city of Pompeii in 79 A.D. Now scientists are worried an even bigger disaster could be on the horizon. “With 24 hidden underground craters, the Campi Flegrei, a so-called supervolcano, dwarfs the better-known Vesuvius,” said Politico. Since the summer of 2023, several small earthquakes have appeared in the region, causing concern around a potentially catastrophic future eruption. The last time the Campi Flegrei supervolcano erupted was 500 years ago, and the effects were widespread.

Another year of heat and floods in China (Washington Post) Three years after Zhengzhou was hit with China’s deadliest flash floods in decades, the central Chinese city was underwater once again. For over three hours on Monday afternoon, 9.21 inches of rain was dumped on this city of 13 million—and forced an all-out effort to prevent a repeat of 2021, when 300 died in a sudden deluge that flooded the subway and trapped people in submerged cars. China’s summer has begun with a massive emergency response effort in multiple provinces to prevent extreme weather, now routine, from turning into a political and humanitarian crisis for the ruling Communist Party. After last year’s record-breaking heat waves, June brought drought, floods and typhoons—sometimes quickly coming one after the other. Extreme heat delayed crop planting in eastern Shandong province weeks before it was hit with floods. Beijing has now made adapting to bouts of extreme weather a greater policy priority. Following the killing of senior commanders in targeted Israeli airstrikes, the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group, Hezbollah, has been using some low-tech strategies to try to evade its foe’s sophisticated surveillance technology, informed sources told Reuters. The sides have been trading fire since Hezbollah’s Palestinian ally in the Gaza Strip, Hamas, went to war with Israel in October. Tens of thousands of people have fled both sides of the border. Israeli strikes have killed more than 330 Hezbollah fighters and around 90 civilians in Lebanon, according to Reuters tallies. Israel says attacks from Lebanon have killed 21 soldiers and 10 civilians. Israel’s electronic eavesdropping—including hacking into cell phones and computers—is widely regarded as among the world’s most sophisticated. Hezbollah has learned from its losses and adapted its tactics in response, sources familiar with the group’s operations told Reuters. Cell phones, which can be used to track a user’s location, have been banned from the battlefield in favour of more old-fashioned communication means, including pagers and couriers who deliver verbal messages in person. In case conversations are overheard, code words are used for weapons and meeting sites. These are updated nearly daily and delivered to units via couriers.

Belém e COP-30: Preparando o Futuro Através da Qualificação Profissional

A busca por qualificação profissional e o desejo de empreender têm transformado a vida de muitos belenenses, como é o caso de Adriana Martins, uma autônoma de 51 anos. Adriana é uma das beneficiadas pelo programa “Donas de Si”, uma iniciativa da Prefeitura de Belém em parceria com o Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial (Senai), que oferece cursos de modelagem e outras áreas técnicas. Na noite de segunda-feira, 2, ocorreu a aula inaugural das novas turmas do programa, marcando o início de um caminho promissor para 160 participantes. Com um investimento de R$ 701.700,00, a Prefeitura contratou 35 cursos do Senai, disponibilizando um total de 700 vagas até março de 2025. O prefeito Edmilson Rodrigues ressaltou a importância desses cursos para proporcionar oportunidades a quem está fora do mercado de trabalho, permitindo que as pessoas se qualifiquem e empreendam com dignidade. Um dos grandes objetivos desse esforço educacional é preparar a população para as oportunidades que surgirão com a realização da Conferência da ONU sobre Mudanças Climáticas (COP-30) em Belém, em novembro de 2025. Adriana Martins vê na COP-30 uma chance de expansão para o setor de modelagem, especialmente na fabricação de uniformes para hotéis e empresas. As aulas, que ocorrem de segunda a sexta-feira, têm duração média de três meses. Paulo Soares, aluno do curso de mecânico de refrigeração e climatização, vê no programa uma oportunidade de reinserção no mercado de trabalho, mesmo aos 61 anos. Além dos cursos mencionados, o pacote inclui construção civil, moda upcycling (sustentável), costura industrial, produção de uniformes, manutenção de máquinas de costura, mecânica de motores marítimos, entre outros. Dário Lemos, diretor regional do Senai e superintendente do Sesi, enfatizou a parceria com a Prefeitura e o impacto positivo na vida dos alunos.
