FEATURE: You’re naught-y(ou) when you’re hungry

So have you been naughty? If you are guilty of the charge, such is most understandable. It is truly a challenging goal to traverse the path of virtuosity without faltering at any point. Fortunately for aspiring moral paragons, the Christmas season brings not only judgement upon one’s character via a certain list but also scrumptious food to inspire our efforts in evading its damning sentence. In all their righteous glory, their guidance is still but a neat bonus to their nutritional gifts and gustatory spectacle—blessings that would have us more favorably adjudicated than to put off.

Sometimes however, it is the food which keeps us waiting as is the case with Bibingka. Though it can be made in under an hour with rice flour to suit modern sensibilities, its traditional form entails the soaking of rice in water for an entire night! It is only on the following day that the rest of the preparation may be performed, after which can watering mouths finally indulge in the worthwhile delight that is the Bibingka. This dish is an emphatic exhibition of the greater things we can realize when we have it in our hearts to wait. Patience is a virtue, and each one shall count when making certain that the naughty list has not our names on it.

Ah, what a sweet sight that would be for us all truly. Thus, let us be tranced with dreams of that sensation we so fervently chase by the sweet Leche Flan! Part and parcel of the great pursuit is being capable of adaptation for the accomplishment of duty. As the Flan’s egg and milk transform to fill the llanera, so must we be able to reshape ourselves should we be needed, to fulfill our responsibilities and dearest wishes.

Going hand in hand with such is the Queso de Bola’s esteemed sphericity. Irreverently regarded as being pointless, it does in full fact encompass each and every point within its radius. Its elegant form is a timeless model to style ourselves on as we refine our character and round out our personality towards virtuosity. In this exercise do we encounter the strange and unfamiliar, and make them our own.

It is a regretful inevitability however that we shall face base influences and perilous tremors that beleaguer the integrity of our well-behaving, naughty list-safe being. In these testing moments we shall look to the stout Lumpiang Shanghai for counsel. Unbudging in its resolution, its wrapper shields its diligently fashioned essence from intrusions of those that may spoil it. Let us then likewise wrap ourselves away from alluring invitations of misconduct towards our own person as well as our fellows even when we are compelled by our circumstances.

Indeed, thoughtful nonconformity is a decisive tactic to be employed in the betterment of our moral standing—one most eminently advocated for by the acclaimed Hotdog-Marshmallow Skewer. Poking holes through each and every conception of what may complement a hotdog on a stick, the utter ingenuity of this hors d’oeuvre is but positively stupefying. May the Hotdog-Marshmallow Skewer stand to remind all that failing to channel our innate creativity is a criminal disservice to our potential for goodness and so constitutes a naughty list-able offense.

Thus far, we have amassed 6 paragraphs of schemes, stratagems, and musings on avoiding being and doing that which is naughty—but what does it mean exactly, to be nice? Perhaps we can be led to the answer by the ultimate Filipino Christmas food item, not merely by ordinality but by sheer superlativeness as well: the Hamon. At first raw and barren, the meat is submerged into a boiling brine of salt, water, sugar, and spices, and immersed for at least three days. Unhurriedly it acquires and accumulates flavor until delectation is made certain. So too should we lay in steady suffusion by virtue, goodwill, and the warmth of humanity so we may, in time, share all these with others.

It is this message borne by each cured cut that the heartiest of all holiday fare takes center table for: to be nice is to nourish to satisfaction those around us with teeming spoonfuls of goodness that they may be every bit filled up with appreciation, kindness, and love. So please be implored not to keep oneself famished for the odyssey of becoming the nicest you commences with being… well, just you.

(Adnkronos) - Gabriele Crisafulli, in arte Gabriels, è un'insegnante di musica e un autore raffinato. Il suo ultimo disco è il quarto atto di una saga che è incentrata su un fumetto Manga che, in Italia, è noto come Ken il Guerriero: "Si tratta -spiega Crisafulli- di una rock opera, una sorta di musical dove i cantanti sono i personaggi del fumetto e le tracce non sono altro che le scene di ogni puntata. Ken il Guerriero... in musica Saranno sette i dischi previsti dal progetto che nasce da una passione che ho da sempre coltivato per i Manga. Un ritorno al passato, con l'obiettivo di rispolverare la memoria di chi, negli anni Ottanta, era giovane ma anche per chi giovane lo è adesso e vuole avvicinarsi a questo mondo affascinante". Sette dischi come le sette stelle dell'Orsa Maggiore. "La musica sta seguendo una moda decisamente diversa -sottolinea Crisafulli- e ai miei alunni voglio far comprendere che esistono inclinazioni diverse da quelle che ascoltano oggi. Io insegno in un liceo musicale e i miei ragazzi saranno i professionisti del futuro ed è bene che abbiano una vasta conoscenza del panorama artistico. Un musicista deve avere la mente aperta, guardare certo al futuro ma non dimenticando il passato che comunque fa parte della storia e non può andare in soffitta. Il progetto di musicare i fumetti Manga va proprio in questa direzione e sono fiero di contribuire, in questo modo, alla cultura di genere". Il quarto atto Il quarto atto della saga dunque aiuta a diffondere il progetto che si avvale di importanti collaborazioni. La voce di Ken è di Wild Stell, quella di Yuza di Roberto Tiranti, quella di Ryuga di Gandolfo Ferro, quella di Ryaku di Fabio Carmotti, quella di Toky di Stefano Sbrignadello.
