GVK Reddy Affirms: Mumbai Airport Sale Not Pressured by Adani Group

GVK Group Vice Chairman, Sanjay GV Reddy, clarified on Tuesday that there was no pressure whatsoever from the Adani Group or anyone else to sell the Mumbai airport. This statement comes in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's accusation in the Lok Sabha that the airport was taken from GVK using agencies like the CBI and the ED and handed over to Adani by the Indian government.

The Adani Group took over management of the Mumbai airport from the GVK Group in July 2021. Speaking in an interview with NDTV on Tuesday, Sanjay Reddy emphasized, "There was absolutely no pressure from the Adani Group or anyone else for us to sell the Mumbai airport."

Reddy explained that the decision to sell the airport stemmed from the group's need to raise funds for its airport business. He recounted how Gautam Adani expressed interest in the airport and approached GVK Group about a possible transaction. "He assured us that we could finalize the entire transaction within one month, which was crucial for us," GVK Reddy said. "So, from that perspective, whatever we did was in the interest of the company and the lenders we had to repay.
