Another example of how my brain works:

So, a few weeks ago, I won a bunch of beer swag at work as the “employee of the month” (the first time they’ve done an employee of the month in yeaaars if i recall correctly, which i kind of half-jokinly think of as their way of trying to make me feel appreciated as so I don’t quit?!), and so I have a new hat, and it’s a Guinness hat. It’s pretty nice. It’s plain black with an embroidered black Guinness logo, so it hardly even looks like beer swag I go from work.

So anyways, I got this hat, and I had seen something about the band Can here on Tumblr like a day or so ago, and seeing the hat reminded me of the time I saw Damo Suzuki (former vocalist of Can) perform years ago here in Ottawa at Zaphod’s, and before (or after?) the show, I was drinking a Guinness, and he was drinking a Guinness.

It was a good show! He does this thing where he tours around under the name Damo Suzuki’s Network, and performs free improv with local musicians, who during this performance, included Shub Roy (one of the members of one of my favorite local bands of the time, Smoke Judo (who later performed with Yamantaka // Sonic Titan for a while?)), Adam Saikaley, and some saxophonist who realllly didn’t seeem to fit with the vibe that was going on (he tried to jump in on vocals himself, but it just seeemed kiiinda awkward to me).

I can’t even really drink beer anymore, and rarely drink now anyways. I think I’m allergic to something in it (hops?). I guess for years I didn’t realize drinking a beer or two isn’t supposed to make your face go numb (which doesn’t happen with other drinks). I can dress up like a walking beer advertisement though!

Anyhow, that is the story of my Guinness / Damo Suzuki hat.

National Drone Day in Ottawa was held this past Saturday, May 10 at Gallery 101. It was a great success, and a fun experience for all involved. Performers included Self-Surgery, Adam Saikaley, Herons Wake, Bosveld, Shane Whitbread and the Human Being Lawnmowers.
