BY: Bob Crawford, Hartford Wolf Pack HARTFORD, CT - The Wolf Pack kick off their 23rd season of AHL action this Saturday, October 5, with a home-ice date against the defending Calder Cup champions, the Charlotte Checkers.  The Wolf Pack played three preseason games in preparation for the 2019-20 campaign and came out of that slate with a 1-2-0-0 record.  Nick Jones scored three goals in the two games, and fellow rookie Patrick Newell chipped in three assists. This week: The Wolf Pack have a back-to-back set of home games on the docket for the season’s opening weekend.  The Charlotte Checkers visit the XL Center for the season opener this Saturday, October 5, with faceoff at 7:00 PM.  Then, on Sunday, the Wolf Pack host their in-state rivals the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for a 3:00 game. Saturday, October 5 vs. the Charlotte Checkers (Carolina) at the XL Center, 7:00 PM Free Wolf Pack magnetic schedules will be given away to the first 5,000 fans at this game, presented by Pepsi. The Checkers are the reigning AHL champions, having defeated the Chicago Wolves in a five-game Calder Cup final to capture the franchise’s first AHL title.  That was after Charlotte also posted the league’s best regular-season record, going 51-17-7-1 for 110 points, 15 points better than second-place Bridgeport in the Atlantic Division. Despite the championship victory in 2018-19, Checkers head coach Mike Vellucci and the Carolina organization parted ways.  Charlotte’s new head man is former assistant coach Ryan Warsofsky. The top performer from last year’s Calder Cup team still in the organization is Checker goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic.  He won the 2018-19 Baz Bastien Trophy as the AHL’s top goaltender, leading league netminders in wins, goals-against average, and minutes-played (34-9-5, 2.26, 91.6, 4 SHO in 51 GP). This is the first of eight meetings on the season between the Wolf Pack and the Checkers, and the first of four Charlotte visits to the XL Center.  The Wolf Pack went 1-7-0-0 in 2018-19 against the Checkers, who won each of the last seven encounters between the two clubs after a 5-3 Wolf Pack win in the first meeting December 1. New Details Emerge for Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich Including Puppet Redesigns!

Thomas Lennon and Udo Kier will star in “Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich,” a new take on the durable horror franchise.

The Cinestate production finished principal photography earlier this month. Jenny Pellicer, Nelson Franklin,  Charlyne Yi, Alex Beh, Barbara Crampton, Tina Parker, Skeeta Jenkins and Michael Pare are also starring.

Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund (“Wither”) directed from a script written by “Bone Tomahawk” screenwriter S. Craig Zahler. Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk produced for Cinestate, along with Jack Heller of Assemble Media. “Transformers” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian of Di Bonaventura Pictures are also producers on the project along with frequent Laguna & Wiklund partner David Liljeblad.

Charles Band (the original franchise producer) is executive producing, as are Wayne Godfrey and Robert Jones of The Fyzz Facility, Jonathan Feuer of Flexibon Films, Red Sanders of Red Productions, Will Evans of Cinestate, Adam Donaghey, Johnathan Brownlee and Rick Prince.

“Puppet Master,” released in 1989, was written by Band and Kenneth J. Hall, and directed by David Schmoeller. It stars Paul Le Mat, Irene Miracle, Matt Roe and Kathryn O’Reilly as psychics using deadly puppets — Blade, Jester, Pinhead, Tunneler, Leech Woman, Shredder Khan and Gengie — animated by an Egyptian spell and created by puppeteer Andre Toulon. “Puppet Master” was released direct-to-video and developed a following that led to nine sequels.

“Puppet Master: The Little Reich” centers on a recently divorced young man discovers a mint condition Blade doll in his deceased brother’s closet and plans to sell the toy at a convention in Texas celebrating the 30th anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. Lennon has extensive credits as an actor and writer and is best known for his work on MTV’s “The State,”  Comedy Central’s “Reno 911!” and CBS’s “The Odd Couple.” He is the writing partner of Robert Ben Garant; they’ve teamed on the “Night at the Museum” franchise and the upcoming “Baywatch.”

Kier is a German actor with more than 200 credits. He’s appeared in most of Lars Von Trier’s films including “Nymphomaniac.” Kier is also starring in Zahler’s upcoming “Brawl in Cell Block 99,” also starring Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Carpenter and Don Johnson.

Crampton is a horror icon in the truest sense of the term; her lengthy filmography includes turns in “Re-Animator,” “From Beyond,” “You’re Next,” “We Are Still Here,” and “Beyond the Gates.” She also has a part in the upcoming, hotly anticipated “Death House” from director Harrison Smith based on a script from Gunnar Hansen.
