saw this tweet and thought about how before the spiderverse movies, comic!miles storylines were largely inspired by different spiderpeople/superheroes
and spiderverse fully embraced this as a miles morales signature: he's the one most fit for the position of main character in a multiverse trilogy precisely because he was originally created as an amalgamation of the characters that came before him
and now this animated movie series is going to propel miles morales as the incomparable, irreplaceable spiderman in our cultural canon by giving him his unique spiderman narrative within the context of his character having been created as a parallel to other spideys
he learns things from the people he meets and he makes them his own! he puts his own twist into it! he does what no one else can! he is exactly like the others and absolutely nothing like them!
the glowup of a spiderman achieving full individuality in a Multiverse Trilogy featuring a hundred other spideys is just absolutely incredible, who is doing it like him

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Review
âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸SPOILERS BELOW âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸
This is not a simple review. It will contain specifics and loud opinions.
âââ-
I just need to start this off by saying that I fucking love Hobie. He is definitely one of the best parts of the movie. I am so happy that the rumor I heard about Hobie liking Gwen and creating a âlove triangleâ was not true. I very much dislike âlove triangles.â I was screaming the entire time Hobie was on screen. Heâs an anarchy genius.
Pavitr is the sweetest lil bean. It was such a relief seeing a happy Spider-Man. I really loved seeing Indian culture represented in a simple everyday way.
The Morales family is amazing and I only want the best for them. Mr. and Mrs. Morales are trying hard to be good parents and it shows.
Peter B. Parker what the hell are you thinking bringing a child into a violent fight?? I can sort of forgive the first one but then lying to MJ about it. You were literally carrying MayDay in a bjorn on a bullet train going skyward. I understand that you want Miles to see MayDay and see the good he brought you but a violent environment is not the time or place.
Speaking of bad parenting, Gwenâs father is an immature ass. When Gwen said, âYouâre a good cop, Dad.â I wanted her to follow it up with, âbut not a good father.â Why canât superheroes condemn their parents?
Superhero movies donât allow characters to hold their parents accountable because theyâre objectively made for children to enjoy and children arenât meant to question or judge their parents. When a parent missteps the child is required to meet the parent where they stand by accepting that everything was done out of love. How the child feels and how the slight effected them isnât discussed. Marvel did this with Howard and Tony as well as Odin, Loki, and Thor. Itâs insane that Sony and Marvel deny children seeing their heroes protect themselves and set boundaries with the people who are supposed to care for them above all others.
Miles is truly a King. Heâs better than all those other spider-people and right now I donât think they deserve the good heâs gonna bring them.
Iâm not the biggest fan of Gwenâs actions or the romance between her and Miles. I would have preferred to see Tiana Toomes with Miles but Miles does go the furthest with Gwen out of all his girlfriends, opinions can be made as to why that is, so Gwen and Miles makes sense. I feel that their relationship is still in the crush stages and after her betrayal it could be the end of it. Maybe we could see Tiana, Kate, or someone else in the future.
Iâm sure Miles is going to forgive Peter and Gwen but I at least want him to make them sweat more or for them to admit in full why they betrayed him. In order for Sony and Marvel to stop showing their audiences that unconditional forgiveness is required characters need to communicate and reach an understanding that isnât one person deciding to be the bigger person, especially the child.
Itâs fascinating to me that spider-people are so willing to rationalize their losses that they will all follow Miguel when he is clearly wrong.
Miguel that world fell apart because you were in it not because a canon event didnât happen. Canon events, termed by Miguel, are just common themes that have/will lead to similar events because of course they will. Someone not dying in one instance is not the same as someone making roots in a universe that is not their own. The universe is resilient and it will correct itself. If a personâs death is more important than their survival then donât worry the universe will make sure that they die.
Unlike the spider-heroes who are rationalizing their loss via acceptance, Spot is resorting to anger. Heâs just focusing on the brightest string, like the Maximoffs did with Tony.
I found Miguelâs theory of Miles being an anomaly to be interesting. As I previously stated the universe will only go along with things it agrees with, Miguel learned this lesson pretty traumatically, so I believe that 1610 Peter was going to die that night. And if spider-42 hadnât been brought to universe-1610 then there wouldnât be a Spider-Man in 1610. So I think that the universe agreed that 1610 Miles is meant to be Spider-Man. I mean as we have seen multiple times in Across alone, Miles is a good force in every universe. Iâm wondering if in 42 Prowler Miles is considered an anti-hero instead of a villain. I mean itâs more likely that they will go with the storyline of Miles meeting the evil him to strengthen his own morals, reminiscent of Billy. But I think Iâd prefer the first storyline. It fits the narrative of âfuck canon/the box you want me in.â Also does Miguel just not care about universes without Spider-Man because he could have figured out a way to save 42 if he wanted? Iâm so excited to see what happens with 42 Prowler and the final fight.
Absolutely loved all the cameos. All the spiders were perfectly done. Someone correct me if Iâm wrong (pls pls send me screen grabs) but I didnât see 199999 Peter in the holograms. Miguel mentions him in a derogatory way but thatâs it. I might be reaching since 199999 Peter is my favorite but I think this is because Miguel groups Miles and Peter together. Miguel is okay with not saving everyone which is something Miles and 199999 Peter refuse to do. 199999 Peterâs main motto is âIf you have the power to stop the bad things from happening and they happen anyway then they happened because of you.â Honestly, Peter holds himself to this way to tightly but Miguel does the exact opposite. He doesnât even try to help people and then absolves himself from guilt. Peter literally almost destroyed the multiverse trying to help people and then lost everything fixing it, again Miguel did the opposite.
My final thoughts about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are fuck Miguel, Iâm disappointed that so many spider-heroes would want to rationalize their trauma so bad that they would intentionally hurt one of their own, and of course the animation is breathtaking. Canât wait for Beyond the Spider-Verse!
ps. I saw a tweet where someone said they want RiRi to get the Miles treatment and I totally agree. I would die to see RiRi Williams in 2D animation! Sheâs phenomenal with a great story, plus weâd get a young Tony Stark in 2D. RDJ would voice him no question. Weâd be winning winning.

it's definitely just me but I expected more for paying a 12 dollar movie ticket than just having to watch setup after setup after setup. I wanted a movie sorry, yall. Is it crazy to not want to wait 9 months for a full story? Rather than a narrative cut short?
The movie was brilliant in every other way, the music, the characters, the visuals. Stunning and the best I've ever seen. But the story arcs leave very much to be desired. And it honestly affected the rest of my viewing experience. There was hardly any movement in the story imo, and I honestly felt they could've sped up or cut out a lot. The screenplay was bloated. Especially when they kept giving reveals that was already pretty obvious from the get-go. But idk that's just me
I think once the final piece has clicked in, with the 3rd installment out, I would enjoy this a lot more, and appreciate the build up for what it is. But as it stands, especially on its own, there's not much story in it that's worth spending 2hours and 20 min on it.

'Across the Spiderverse' is Best Film of All Time!
Not satisfied with writing one review about Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, I decided to write a second, spoiler review so I could talk in-depth about what might be one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse Spoiler Review Five years ago, I was lucky to get to see Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse on the big screen, and it became my definitive Spider-Man film. Then we got word about the long-awaited sequel, Across the Spiderverse, coming out in time for Summer 2023. So, naturally, I bought a ticket to an opening night screening, then left to watch it after work.âŚ

What a nice little gay list this is.
Happy Pride, y'all. The much-anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now in theaters and folks are embracing a whole new cohort of Spider-folks. The series finales of Succession and Ted Lasso aired and, well, they both left fans with a whole mess of emotions. Emotional support himbos and Roys, you'll be missed. Ranboo's Generation Loss is finally here after years of hype and the fan art and theories abound in the tags. The full trailer for Barbie dropped and is full of existential crises backed by an Indigo Girls soundtrack, which: again, happy Pride. Finally, The Little Mermaid film has folks visiting a whole new world. This is Tumblr's Week in Review.

Something I noticed about The Spot, is that despite his talk, he hasn't actively, consciously, hurt any civilians yet. He just interrupts and steals from them. Going back to the convenience store scene, rather than mugging the cashier, which would probably be a simpler and quicker process, he goes to the ATM in the back which he has no idea how to take money from. He even tries to talk the cashier back down from any physical conflict and apologizes for accidentally hitting him with the bat. And in Pavitr's dimension, when Spot activated the dimensional device, he first got the scientists away from the area. He's also so insistent on making sure not to be insulting to anyone, even the spider people he's fighting. I wonder if this will lead to a moment where Spot hesitates in his actions or is unable to do something completely.

2023: The year of all time
This felt like the first year post-COVID where things really kicked into high gear for me personally. My new year's resolution was that I would go out and have fun for once.
And had fun I did.
I did some voicework reading for a story podcast, I went to a bunch of amazing concerts (nothing beats seeing Weird Al for my birthday!), and I sorted out a bunch of RL stuff and put a neat little bow on it. Thank goodness.
But fuck all that sappy shit: Here's a small collection of things I really enjoyed this year!
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: An excellent sequel to a seemingly unfollow-uppable first film. Takes everything from ITSV, and amps it up to twenty with a stunning visual style, a sonically fitting soundtrack, and a meta-commentary on the nature of Spider-Man's character and whether they really deserve all the tragedy thrown at them.
Aunty Donna's Coffee Cafe: The guys who made Pud did another show, this time with funding from the Australian Government! While stripped back in its setting, they continue to provide the same stupid bullshit that put me into laughing fits as they did with their Netflix show. Haven't they done well.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off: I think when people heard about "An animated Scott Pilgrim show with the live-action cast and Edgar Wright producing", they did not expect "A proper dissection of Ramona Flowers' character and her motivations, as well as her own journey of forgiving the Evil Exes. Also lots of yaoi." Scott Pilgrim continues to dominate as the premier "guy learns not to be a shithead" franchise.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Live in Accor Stadium: The Peppers prove their pertained power as performers by playing the purest psalms in their prospectus from the past 35 years (eugh, what a mouthful). Flea came out, did a 30-second handstand, waved and said hello to the moon and then got up some people littering in the crowd. Their life is more than just a read-through.
Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You: I had absolutely no clue who Caroline was before I listened to this album. I now realise that she might just be the person that pop needs right now. A soaring collection of songs destined to become classics down the line, like a greatest hits compilation that doesn't exist. We're all on Caroline's island, and we ain't leaving.
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk: I kept my eye on this game as it was developing, and it was absolutely worth it to see it come through in the end. Satisfying gameplay that requires you to learn how to combo to progress, an addicting artstyle inspired by Y2K, and the soundtrack. Holy fuck the soundtrack. I just can't get enuf.
Weird Al Yankovic - TUROTRSIIIVT: Man, what a title. Emu Phillips come out swinging with jokes I did not expect, and then Weird Al comes out aggressively swinging, with all the songs you don't know him for. He then did a polka melody of his parodies, did a ritual halfway through, and then ended the concert on a high note. Only the best from Strange Alfred.
Doctor Who 2023 Specials: That bastard David Tennant returning led me down the rabbit hole known as watching Doctor Who, and did it ever pay off more than these specials. A trans woman saves the day and the Doctor realises he's bi, black, and needs therapy. A magnificent close on a chapter of one of the greatest sci-fis ever, and a bright step into the future.
The Hyperfixation of the Year award goes to none other than
Homestuck, everyone's favourite webcomic! Everyone's.
And I think that's partly because I joined this website to begin with. I probably say this all the time, but leaving Reddit was probably the best decision I could have made at that time. As much as I reminisce, the communities I was in began to get a little stale. Same jokes, same shitposts, a different day. Tumblr in some strange way, is not that. It feels less like a big communal website and more like a collection of small towns spread across a large spot of land. Calm and village-like, you know?
So to all my mutuals, my followers, to the people that liked and reboggled my stinky posts, to all that offered mealworms and crickets in my askbox, thank you. "Gecko Boy" might just be a silly lil joke in the grand scheme of things, but it's a fun joke to play into.
Whatever comes next year, I know I've got the energy to keep going. Have a good 2024 everybody. <3

'Across the Spiderverse' is THE Spider-Man Film
Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse is finally out, and it's easily one of the greatest films of all time. I was on cloud nine watching the entire thing. I loved it so much that I couldn't even write one review, but two, spoiler and spoiler-free!

 My Symbiote spider-man 2099 review
(Disclaimer: I did started reading the spider-man 2099 comic after ATSV so my review may be lackluster at best but I will tell it how it is. Also spoiler warning on the whole comic.)
edit: at part of the review got cut off I fixed it
So this is my review of the spider-man 2099 symbiote comic:Â
IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me explain, so the comic kicks off at the issue where Kron and the Venom got captured. Venom escapes and fuses with the fish guy. Miguel tries to stop him and get the symbiote back. Thatâs a strong start as it makes sense to start here due to how bad the original comic ending was.(Side note: they did the ironic page with spider-man 2099 again just so they can pull the nostalgia heart string to get us hooked.)
Miguel is now the CEO of Alchemax, which he hates and everyone hates him for it too. Also the fact he stressed from being the CEO and Spider-man. That was the first red flag of the comic. Miguel in 92 run didnât like being the CEO but he knew it better than someone else taking over.Â
so the Venom made a new symbiote before it left and one of Miguel co-work was experimenting on it to control it and Miguel wasnât having that and wanted it destroyed. He figured that co-worker wasnât going to destroy it so he went in as spider-man to make sure it got destroyed. The co-worker tried to control the symbiote but it backfired and fused with Miguel.Â
Kron also escape at the sametime and punisher was hot on his tale and ready to killed him till Venom found Kron again since it like Kron for some reason and Kron killed punisher (iâm pretty sure he not dead dead but who care)
The symbiote that fused with Miguel try to take over but Miguel have more will power. So Symbiote opt to let them work together. Kron sneaks back into Alchemax disguising as Miguel. Tylor trying to get back the company. Kron got caught by him and Miguelâs mom. Then real miguel came in and reveal to Kron there brothers and he spider-man. I was like âWTFâ? On the Miguel revealing he spider-man to everyone in the room.Â
Kron tries to convince Miguel that they are brothers and we should take over the city since they both have symbiotes. Even Miguelâs Symbiote tries to tell him they should work with Kron and Miguel agrees!? Also, there was a moment that Tylor was thrown out the window but it was cop out, it was all in Miguelâs head. God I wish that would happen.Â
So Kron and Miguel having a brother moment in the next two issues goes nowhere. Like Kron and Miguelâs symbiote try to convince Miguel to kill people but he wonât so he still has control over his symbiote. Strange found out that Miguel is âpossessedâ by the Symbiote and went to Doom for help. Also the moment when he and Vulture had a fight and Miguel was actually going to kill him but he was saved by Strange. Probably the one person you should kill is Strange.
(ok this was kind of funny)
Doom go get Gabriel who was bitter with his mom and Miguel. Also just found out that his mom cheated with his dad and Miguel and Kron are brothers. Doom tell Gabe to go free Miguel which how the fuck does Doom knows that Gabe is Miguelâs brother? Did I missed a issue in 92 comic?!
So Gabe found Miguel who was having an exponential crisis. Telling that this isnât you, he gets stabbed by Kron and throw off a building (I'm pretty sure that happened). Miguel got pissed and tried to kill Kron. Miguel talked to Venom trying to convince them that Kron sucks and he better. Venom fused with Miguel and surprisingly killed Kron (I hope). Unfused with both of them and killing them? Sad that Gabe is dead but wait!! Gabe turns up a few days later and turns out that he is alive or what we think its him.
So the summary is over here the review part: first, the art style. It is terrible or at least not the best work. I know I came off straight from the movie so Miguelâs design I have high expectations for. But they used the 2019 comic design and let's just say it suck.he look way too much like Peter. Like, you could have made a fusion of the 92 comic design and the movie design. It has been done before by Mr.Dev and even fan made. Also other Spiders comics were starting to adapt the movie design, so why not Miguel? They also keep forgetting what Miguel suppose to have. Where are his red eyes? Where are his fangs? Where his sunglasses? Like come on! It 2024! You should know what he look like!! Everyone designs but Lyla is ugly. Only the cover were nice. Sidenote: if anyone can find a poster for issue one for me that be great.
Second, the pacing of the story was horrible. Like I get it they only had 5 issue but it was way rushed even for five issue. Like the plot went nowhere. Not only that but it looks like they change the plot midway. Like the first two issues look like they were going to pull the âwhich one is Miguelâ card. Are we reading about Miguel or the Symbiote or Kron since he was disgusting as Miguel. That would've been fun to read or would grab me to keep reading. There was also the whole Kron and Miguel trying to be brothers that just rubbed me the wrong way. Ugh, didnât Kron just kill Dana? Like Miguelâs fiancĂŠe? The love of his life?! Also side note there was no mention of her or Xina in this whole comic. I donât think Miguel donât want to be brothers with Kron who:
A. killed his Fiancee.Â
B. try to kill him when he was young.Â
C. probably was going to kill his mom.Â
D. killed Gabe, I know that one was after but it still counts.Â
E. did a bunch of evil stuff. I know he killed Punisherâs wife and/or family
Miguel deciding going with Kron was a way out character even with the Symbiote. The Symbiote would try to convince him to kill Kron and feed off his negative emotion.Â
Let's talk about Symbiote, the thing that pissed me off the most in this whole comic. The Symbiote was very disappointing. First the design, it looks very boring. Looking back at Gwen and Milesâs symbiote suits this very lackluster. Like the only thing I like about it is that he is bulky.
i'm most look like he got those 19ins
I saw better fan art designs for Miguel symbiote; it just looks very plain for a symbiote.Â
Another issue with the Symbiote is its point in the story. So this whole comic hype this Symbiote to be a great threat to everyone butâŚit did nothing. All it did was try to convince Miguel to let it have control or to kill people. That's it. It was just the symbiote scream that Miguel's ear telling him to do stuff like Navi from Zelda or Paimon from Genshin.Â
And biggest fucking problem I had for symbiote:Â
ITS.DOESNâT.HAVE.A FUCKING.NAME!!!!
The reason why I've been calling it Miguelâs Symbiote is because it doesnât have a name. I read this whole thing for 5 months for not to be named?! Like the main reason why I read this comic is because I love Symbiotes. It is the only thing I truly like about Spider-man (or least got me hooked read Spider-man) and when I heard Miguel getting one I was excited. But this whole comic was a huge disappointment that I wasted 5 months to read this to not only getting half ass writing from one of the original creators of 92â 2099 run of all things. Like if this was written by someone else I would be that not too upset but this is worse. He already letting me down with other stuffs he did that I wonât talk about. It's like he barely looks back at his work when writing this. As a writer this hurts. Like look at your stuff to make sure your retcon is going to make sense otherwise there is no point. this prove a point that just because the original writer is back that its going to be any good
So overall this comic is 1/10 and the only reason it got a one for the last issue was because they had a good fight and Miguel was being cunning. I hope we spider-man 2099 fan get a good comic. Because the last comic was about so-what descent was like in 2015. Like no one in marvel can write Miguel, he is not that hard!
