"Cut the crap." He said as he kneeled in front of you, giving you a scornful look. "Tell me what's wrong." He grabbed your chin, slightly forcing you to look at him while you tried to look like everything was alright. But it must have been obvious that nothing was alright, since your nose got abnormally red whenever you were even close to crying, and Yeonjun knew that very well.

"I'm just getting cold feet, that's all." You chuckled, trying to defuse the tension.

"And that's why you're crying this much that your whole face is looking like a tomato?" He raised a brow, making it obvious that he was not giving in to your bullshit. The next thing you felt were his hands cupping both your cheeks, making your lips pout. "Sweetie, what happened?"

You tried to avoid his gaze, looking at his biceps rather than his face. "I'm feeling stressed... like really stressed." You finally confessed. If there was one thing that could be the secret of your healthy relationship with him, it was communication. You both were never shy to let out your emotions with each other.

So for a long time I felt like I was always too girly, as a girl, I desperately wanted to not be like the Other Girls™. I had a strong dislike for the color pink, never wanted to be seen showing too much skin, NEVER wore skirts ever, shorts had to be knee length or else I wouldn't wear them outside, I was drawn to the boy's section of clothes departments. I wanted to be "one of the boys" as a kid, I related to male characters more than female characters, for a time I was even repulsed by female empowerment media because I didn't feel what I was """supposed""" to feel when consuming it. Of course it wasn't all me, I do have my grandmother to blame for a lot of my self-hatred. My mom was around, but she was working a lot of the time, and I went to my grandparents house each weekend, so I never got to interact with her that much. My grandparents house was a matriarchy. Grandma made the rules, and grandpa wasn't one to go against her, and neither was I. She was a bigot, hated gay people, hated immigrants, hated gender nonconforming, hated everyone who wasn't christian like her. Gender nonconformity is the important part here. I was conforming at the time, but it's just now that I'm not conforming. When I was over there as a child, my grandmother would sometimes read out Facebook posts to me, the inspirational variety, unprompted, and always while I was trying to focus. The inspiration always had the opposite effect—broad reassurance about a girl's body made me acutely aware that I had cellulite, my hair was consistently oily and clumpy, acne became out of control (with no help from grandma, she always told me to just get a pill for it (what fucking pill??)); a clip of a military sargent giving a talk about how making your bed in the morning ✨miraculously✨ makes your day better, followed by grandma telling me that I should do that now, felt like she was implying that I was a slob. As I grew, I understood more of what she was saying offhandedly at the TV, on phone calls, and in front of other people. The terrible and hurtful things that are better off unsaid—

Right, gender. I mean, boys can get away with not shaving, being a slob, having oily hair and such. Girls have to be pretty at all times with neat rooms, neat mannerisms, with little room for expression. I always found shaving annoying, so I don't do it. I can be neat, but all the time is draining. And I'm too god damn vulgar all the fucking time to have look personable. I hated myself for not being the "correct" type of girl. It would take me until graduation to stop hating myself even partially. It would take seeing men create clothes, cook delicious food, and rock heels when I was able to break down my own self hatred.
