You say these words,

Throwing your hands in a grand gesture

As if saying them will put me back into the box you labeled me in your mind with,

“No,

This is the parts of me you tried to hide,

The ones you molded and broke and shattered,

Like my dorky smile, my long hair,

My sensitivity,

You want to talk about things that are not me?

That girl who cut her hair and curses like a sailor. The girl who didn’t give a fuck and towered over her insecurity,

The girl who stood like a mountain and cares what people think,

What wasn’t me was the bits and pieces of yourself you glued to my personality,

As if making me like you would save “us”

Maybe it was because you’re so narcissistic,

But honey,

There is no us.

Not anymore,

Maybe there never was: there was you and a girl who was vulnerable and needed you to make her strong,

Who loves you entirely and can’t see past the gaslight,

But honestly I don’t like that girl. She’s a bitch just like you.

She fell in love with your pain and you fell in love with making her some of her own.

Did you know because of you, she can’t say I love you without throwing up in the day?

Did you know kisses feel like poison

and all of your music sounds like internal bruising and she doesn’t dance to that anymore.

Did you know that you fell in love with a lie?

A girl who melted into your every command like a dog on a leash.

But darling I’m not your puppy anymore. I realized how much I hated myself because of how much I reminded myself of you,

Little habits, like the way I tie my shoes or sneeze, the way I dress,

I can’t look at myself in the mirror that often

But it’s okay, because I’m taking steps,

I will be okay again,

So don’t tell me “this isn’t you”

Because if you thought

That everything you made me

Everything you did to me

Was me,

You told me one truth in our entire relationship,

And it was that you never really loved me.

I don’t know who you are yet, or if you exist. I hope I will meet you when I’m ready,

Because you are the faith I cling to at night when the sky bleeds on my arms.

When the tides pull me in like a whirlpool and I’m dragged into the riptide.

I think of you. I wonder what you look like,

I want to know if you will be as beautiful as the sound of your laugh or the quirks or the smile of yours,

But then again I don’t care

Because you will be more than enough.

I think of you, often,

Mostly when I give up faith and love, when my heart breaks again and again and I start to wonder if a broken heart is worth keeping,

I think of every time my friends leave me for new Friends as they grow up or boyfriends,

And I hope you’re out there, wondering if I exist too.

I don’t think the night sky and moon are perfect company,

But I hope if I talk to the moon enough he will carry my voice to you and let you know I’m looking.

To let you know these scars don’t make me any less loving, any less caring,

Any less hopeful.

I think of you

In the hopes I cross your mind too,

I wonder who you are

And how we’ll meet,

(Probably me running into you on a street,

And cursing you out, how sweet)

And I wonder if you will make the heartbreak seem worth it.

Don’t change for others. Maybe you’re reading this right now,

Don’t give up hope in love, treat every relationship like the one,

Tired

“I’m tired” I say, and my strength fades away, you see my mental illnesses hate being made into metaphors but I have to fight them somehow,

If I compare the feeling of being “tired” to the act lifting weights,

The first time it is hard, my arms wobble and shake, but my chest is strong, and I lift it up and down, forcing myself to have what little energy I need,

When I tell you I’m really tired, I mean someone just put 100 pound weights on each side and it’s crushing my chest,

Because I turn all the sad into tired,

When mom left I was really really tired and napped for the first time in my life.

When my friends left I was extremely tired, it was like I ran a marathon with no end,

So when I tell you I’ve been REALLY tired,

I mean I’ve been falling asleep on my floor because it’s cold and it reminds me I can feel the cold and the hard floor under my back, I can feel the bruises like pressure points pressing down into my soul and I can feel the hot tears evaporate on the cold floor,

It means I’ve been listening to music and sleeping in class to avoid the stress I have and that it’s the only time I sleep anymore,

You see my tired started taking up my nights,

Filling my head with scenarios that may not seem normal to an average person:

These consist of perfect panic attacks, learning how to braid, considering how far the moon is from the earth

Considering how far I am from the world.

I’ve been really tired lately, and it’s dragging me down like weighted ships that have sunken in an abandoned city of hope,

Because hope was abandoned, we don’t have anything to hold onto, nothing to stay afloat,

My hands shake like clicking clock hands and forgotten stories that make earthquakes in my mind,

I’m sorry if I didnt hear you for the one-hundredth time,

Tired likes to take over,

The tired likes to show me my flaws and imperfections like an artist studying their own work,

And the tired laughs when people say:

“Well then sleep!” Or “have you tried to sleep?”

My tired makes sure I see sleep like a mistress and it is my partner,

My tired is a captor and I am the prisoner

These chains are made from dreams I don’t want back,

Memories replaying like the best movie of 2018

And it consists of every mistake I’ve ever made

And the trailers keep me awake!

I am so tired!

I am so tired of not being enough, of writing away my life but having nothing to say,

Of stuttering when I speak and writing of a future that’s so fucking bleak!

Maybe if I tell tired

That I love Her,

Maybe she will leave too.
