sometimes the best way to avoid hopelessly dating something is to really extra date it. if EYE was in charge here are some i’d choose for Key Character moments (leaning VERY 60′s folk) 

Kaz - “Sinnerman” by Nina Simone - end of book 1, as everything falls apart. oh sinnerman where you gonna run to?

Inej - When the Ship Comes In, Bob Dylan - (her entire final sequence with the Wraith) 

honorable mention: it’s my way by buffy sainte-marie, esp for Inej deciding her path in SOC. i’ve got my own seeds, my own weeds, my own harvest that i’ve sown) 

Jesper - Dollar Bill Blues, Townes Van Zandt - introduction sequence baby! 

(honorable mentions: well i do think the gambler by kenny rodgers has a place here. and the boxer. oh i am just a poor boy with my story seldom told i have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles such are promises) 

Matthias- Universal Soldier, Buffy Sainte-Marie - oh, i do think we all know when. he’s the one who gives his body as a weapon of the war and without him all this killing can’t go on. 

honourable mention: i ain’t marching anymore by phil ochs. call it peace or call it treason call it love or call it treason, but I ain’t marching anymore. when i’m gone by phil ochs as well. 

nina - sweet sir galahad, joan baez. oh this is. i will cry over this one. just a little 

honorable mention: joan covering an older jewish song that works just so well for her story, esther and abi ofarim covering a different translation here. whoever treasures freedom like the swallow has learned to fly

wylan- a hard rain’s gonna fall (this is a modern cover of dylan. but we’ve already had enough dylan.) by the time he’s reached the end of CK i suspect wylan feels he’s seen as much as the narrator has 

honorable mentions: i fully believe colm walks on set with “ordinary man” by christy moore playing.
