Best Airport Transfer to and from Aberdeen
Tumblr media
Aberdeen, known as the "Granite City" for its many enduring grey-stone buildings, is a vibrant city in northeast Scotland. With its thriving oil industry, prestigious universities, and rich cultural heritage, Aberdeen attracts diverse visitors year-round. Whether travelling for business or leisure, a reliable and efficient airport transfer is essential for a smooth start and end.
Aberdeen International Airport: The Gateway to the City
Aberdeen International Airport (ABZ) is the primary airport serving the city and the surrounding region. Located approximately seven miles northwest of the city centre, the airport offers a range of domestic and international flights. As the gateway to Aberdeen, the airport provides various transfer options to accommodate different budgets, preferences, and requirements.
Taxi Services: Convenience and Comfort
One of the most popular and convenient ways to travel between Aberdeen International Airport and the city centre is by taxi. Aberdeen Airport Taxi services are available 24/7, providing a hassle-free and comfortable journey. The taxi rank is located just outside the terminal building, making it easy to find a cab upon arrival. The trip to the city centre typically takes around 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Taxis are an excellent choice for travellers with heavy luggage, those arriving late at night, or anyone who values privacy and convenience. Aberdeen's licensed taxis are known for their professionalism, reliability, and local area knowledge. While Airport transfer fares can be higher than other transfer options, their comfort and direct service can be worth the cost.
Airport Shuttle Services: Cost-Effective and Efficient
For travellers seeking a more budget-friendly option, airport shuttle services provide a cost-effective and efficient way to reach Aberdeen's city centre. Several companies operate shuttle services, offering regular departures and competitive prices. Shuttle buses are typically located outside the terminal, and tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the airport.
Shuttle services are ideal for solo travellers, small groups, or those who are okay sharing a ride with other passengers. While the journey may take slightly longer than a UK taxi due to multiple stops, shuttles are a reliable and economical choice. Additionally, some shuttle services offer door-to-door service, dropping passengers off at their specific destination within the city centre.
Public Transport: An Eco-Friendly Option
Aberdeen International Airport is well-connected to the city centre by public transport, making it a sustainable and budget-friendly option for travellers. The Jet Service 727, operated by First Aberdeen, is the primary bus service linking the airport to the city. The bus runs every 10 minutes during peak times and every 20 minutes during off-peak hours, ensuring frequent and reliable service.
The journey from the airport to the city centre takes approximately 30 minutes, with several stops. The bus terminates at Union Square, Aberdeen's central transport hub, near major hotels, shopping centres, and attractions. Tickets can be purchased on the bus, via the First Bus app, or at ticket machines at the airport.
For those who prefer rail travel, the Dyce railway station is just a short taxi or bus ride from the airport. From Dyce, regular train services operate to Aberdeen city centre, offering a quick and scenic route. This option is particularly convenient for travellers heading to destinations outside the city, as it connects to the more comprehensive Scottish rail network.
Car Hire: Freedom and Flexibility
Hiring a car is an excellent option for travellers who value freedom and flexibility. Several reputable car hire companies operate at Aberdeen International Airport, offering a range of vehicles to suit different needs and budgets. Booking in advance is recommended to secure the best rates and ensure availability, especially during peak travel.

These services can be booked via mobile apps, allowing travellers to request a ride at the touch of a button. Ride-sharing vehicles are typically located in designated pick-up areas at the airport.
Ride-sharing offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional taxis, with the added benefit of upfront pricing and cashless transactions. This option particularly appeals to tech-savvy travellers and those familiar with ride-sharing apps in other cities. While availability may vary depending on the time of day and demand, ride-sharing is generally a reliable and efficient transfer option.
Cycling: An Active and Eco-Friendly Alternative
For the environmentally conscious and those who enjoy an active lifestyle, cycling is an alternative way to travel between Aberdeen International Airport and the city centre. While this option is less conventional and requires some preparation, it can be a rewarding and eco-friendly way to start or end your trip.
Aberdeen has a growing network of cycle paths and dedicated bike lanes, making it increasingly accessible for cyclists. A number of homeless people have been sent out of Edinburgh to make way for tourists ahead of Taylor Swift performing in the city, BBC News has learned.
Shelter Scotland said several homeless people it supports had been sent via taxi to Aberdeen and Glasgow amid a shortage in accommodation, and one person was offered temporary accommodation as far away as Newcastle.
Speechless.

Dude the expats are absolutely cracked though. Met a total shit-tier loser from Aberdeen, Scotland only a few years older than me, owns a bar in Bangkok, divorced twice, late stage alcoholism with delirium tremens, told me his life story, made one of his longsuffering bar staff change shirts with him as ... A joke (they hate him, I gave them a big tip), then randomly got mad at me so I called a taxi to get out of there.

THE GRAY CHILDREN - KEY RELATIONSHIPS / LIFE MOMENTS
warnings: mentions of nepotism, murder, age-gaps, abortion, aids crisis, predatory power dynamics, intrusive press, drug use, smoking, death, suicide, post-partum depression, overdose. minors, dni.
this isn't an exhaustive list, just relationships that would make some significant impact on the gray kids. you'll notice george and rosie don't have as much as their younger siblings, but that's simply because they moved around so often that long-term relationships weren't as easy to come by so it's not to say they didn't have them.
fair warning, violet's is pretty heavy-on - a real break the cutie - and whilst i don't condone what happened in the slightest, i want to make that crystal clear it was something that happened to young girls in that industry and i wanted to explore it.
Tumblr media
GEORGE GRAY
george met isla mcnamara whilst recovering from an arm injury back in florence during wwii and they grew close over this time there being a pair of few scots with george growing up in glasgow and isla, although born in aberdeen, was raised in edinburgh. the couple stayed in contact throughout the war and reunited on victory in europe, eloping a few weeks later. their daughter olivia was born in nineteen-fourty-seven and their son in nineteen-fifty. they also joined the gray's in california where george completed his english degree at berkely, going on the pen successful novel, the gray area.
the gray area recounts george and his family's experience growing up around the infamous birmingham gang through their personal anecdotes as children. the book is primarily told from george's perspective, but when not it's typically his mother's. the novel was purposely published post michael's death due to his involvement in the jimmy mccavern murder however george began writing in nineteen-fifty. the book caused a slight rift between the gray boys with jack taking up his then wife's surname as to not draw attention to himself once it hit shelves.
Tumblr media
ROSALIN "ROSIE" GRAY
michael managed to get rosalin a small job on his friend, elia kazan's latest film - gentleman's agreement as dorothy mcguire's personal assistant. since her brief modelling work had dried up, she just wanted something to get her out the house. however, mcguire had fallen ill during the production and instead of halting, kazan had rosalin run her lines opposite gregory peck. the pair grew close over the process and had begun dating by the premier. they married in nineteen-forty-nine and had their first set of children in nineteen-fifty - twins, edward and dean with another son and finally a daughter by nineteen-fifty-seven.
Tumblr media
JOHN "JACK" GRAY
jack met aspiring socialite and heiress louise valentine after moving to new york city once completing his architecture degree at ucla. she introduced him to the life he'd actively ran from in his youth. however this was now on his own terms, now surrounded by his peers the recluse younger gray son became an infamous party boy. unbeknownst to the tabloids, jack was running from a secret and drowning out its pestering screams for release in booze and new-market drugs. louise and jack's marriage was an oddly sinister mirror of his own mother's plight. they went on to have a daughter together before separating in nineteen-seventy-six after his secret's exposure within a high-profile affair.
after the loss of his partner, journalist gene vanderbilt to aids and the death of his mother less than a year prior and ten years since the death of his baby sister. jack moved back to britain once hitting breaking point. escaping prying eyes of the us press, he eventually meets taxi driver stephen nimmo. the pair settle down in manchester living a rather quiet life and marrying in twenty-fourteen with his daughter and sibling's children in attendance.
Tumblr media
VIOLET GRAY
it's nineteen-fifty, the year of the blossoming teenager - the golden age of hollywood and violet gray's grown up around every form of glitter imaginable. from the squeaky-clean to the seedy underbelly glows and now dawning her sister's 'bell of the ball' role at family gatherings. freshly seventeen, she's ready for her cake too. especially after an emboldening encounter with the glowing blonde bombshell who'd borrowed the mirror in her dresser and left a red lippy behind during rosie's birthday party.
enter her eldest brother's friend-of-a-friend from broadway with chocolate brown eyes she dreamed of melting in. nobody thought much of it. it was all rather innocent, little vi had a crush on the man that soon the whole world would too. staring up at the stage wishing hunter would need an impromptu understudy.
he called her flower. even between the subtle scoffs and snarky remarks towards her sister, the boisterous sitting-room gatherings with her brothers and consummate handshakes with her father and uncle eila. he didn't forget to call her flower after pinching a lucky strike and her cheek too because marlon brando knew.
violet, until the day she died could never forget the chalk-white complexion and sharp inhale from her mother in the spring of 'fifty-two after the tearful admission but nora was finally allowed to take the step she planned to at violet's age. they saw carrie in theatre later that day starring a family friend from england.
in an attempt to get the girl back on the "straight-and-narrow", violet was introduced to fellow aspiring actor, james dean in late september of nineteen-fifty-two and was instantly head-over-heels. the streetcar star long forgotten much to her mother and sister's delight as the boys - including michael had been none-the-wiser. forget flower, she was now a doll.
she'd never really recovered, it was an open secret. amongst her family and the court of public opinion. she'd lost too damn much, so fucking much. she couldn't even meet the eyes of her baby-boy, nor her doting husband charlie hope. one abortion, two miscarriages, the man of her dreams and the sister-like blonde bombshell, her body plastered all over that fucking bunny magazine. the days of being disney's darling girl where over. hollywood's glitter had begun to rot and decay but just like every other morning since that fateful day in nineteen-fifty-five, there was still the medicine cabinet.
it was nineteen-sixty-seven and violet would've been thirty-three that winter.
her final starring role was set to release two years later, nineteen-sixty-nine's, bonnie & clyde which would also mark the end of michael and nora's producing / casting film portfolio.
Tumblr media
i'd had this sitting around a while and i didn't really know if i wanted to post it, mainly with the girls' sections - especially violet's but i've been writing a bit and i know i've been pretty radio silent for the past wee while so, whilst it's not a fic i hope you enjoyed a little more lore on the younger gray kids.

every time i think about how much the car-centric US infrastructure fails to actually benefit individual drivers i get a little bit more anti-US
we *have* public transit here, but like. if the commuter rail (already a decent walk, or a short drive but only if i’m going to be back within four hours) isn’t running at the time i’m trying to get somewhere. like. it’s 15 minutes to drive to the nearest T stop and then $9/day for parking, plus fares. otherwise to get into the city proper it’s 30–40 minutes of driving in awful traffic, upwards of $30 to park somewhere, and then if it’s for a specific event another 20–30 minutes just to get out of whatever parking garage i had to park in. and then i still have to drive home.
if i want to, say, go to gillette for an event, even taking the train requires going into the city first. driving directly to the stadium is an option but requires buying a parking pass and sitting in awful traffic and spending an hour getting out of the parking lot, or walking a mile to and from a friend’s house to the stadium (which, to be clear, only works if you know someone who lives nearby).
on a larger scale, if you want to go north-south between two places anywhere that’s west of chicago but east of california-oregon-washington, amtrak can’t really help you. you can fly (usually requires driving to the airport and getting an uber/lyft/taxi at your destination) or drive. I-15, 25, and 35 are basically the only north-south interstate highways in that region.
let’s say we’re traveling from helena, MT to albuquerque, NM. (two major cities i picked at random.) google maps doesn’t even offer any train routes. you can take I-15 for 8 hours down to northern utah and then drive 2 hours to I-70, head southeast for six and a half hours until you get to I-25 north of albuquerque, then continue south for 15 more minutes. in total, almost 17 hours of driving. just over 1000 miles, which is over 1600 km.
what if you’re in page, AZ (just south of the utah border) going to aberdeen, SD (about 34 miles / 55 km south of the north dakota border). the fastest route by car is over 20 hours, and requires you to make a big winding circle that takes over 3 hours and almost 150 miles / 240 km to even reach utah, and almost 3 hours more to reach I-70; in total 315 miles / 507 km. (from page AZ to I-70 in crescent junction UT is about 170 miles / 270 km as the crow flies.) and you’ve still got about 15 hours more driving to look forward to! you have to drive almost 5 hours on I-70 to denver, CO (yay, driving through a major city!!) and then 3 and a half hours on I-80 to reach the nebraska border, and 6 more hours after that using mostly state routes to reach aberdeen. total distance as the crow flies: 895 miles / 1440 km. total distance as the car travels: 1286 miles / 2070 km, over 1.4 times as far. and no, you can’t just take the train. and aberdeen is 75 miles from the nearest airport with any flights, and it’ll run you almost $700 per ticket in addition to any cars you have to rent or ride share app fees.
for an EU comparison: from guadalajara, spain (near madrid) to augsburg, germany (near munich) is around 17 hours by transit, or over 18 hours by car. and even that 18+ hours by car is significantly closer to a straight line. (going directly from madrid to munich is even more of a difference: 16 hours by transit, over 19 hours driving. or you can of course take a flight, which will take ~2.5 hours and cost a third as much per ticket as the US example.)
the reason this works is because europe has far less space. the cities are denser, so the infrastructure is denser, too. trains are great at dealing with lower density areas, so why doesn’t the US use them?

"Neighbors Are Hunted," Border Cities Star. June 5, 1933. Page 1 & 9. ---- Accused of Attacking London Woman And Taking $1,500 --- Condition Serious --- Mrs. Tichonchuk Tells Story of Assault And Robbery --- By Staff Reporter LONDON, Ont., June 5 - Mrs. Alex Tichonchuk, 31, of 6 Webb street, lies in Victoria Hospital in a temporarily serious condition, while detectives were carrying on an intensive hunt this afternoon for two neighbors who are alleged to have attacked her in her home this morning, and robbed the Polish woman of $1,500 in cash.
SUSPECTS SOUGHT THE suspects the police are seeking are John Neyare, 35, boarder at 5 Webb street, across the road from the victim's home, and Joseph Kozuboski, about 33 years of age, and believed to be a resident of Inkerman street.
The robbery occurred about 10 o'clock this morning, when Mrs. Tichonchuk was alone in the house. Her husband was at work in a downtown factory, and their only child Alex, Jr., 7 years old, was attending Aberdeen school.
According to the story told police, the two suspects paid a friendly call to the Tichonchuk residence. They had been in the house a few minutes when the housewife was called to the door to get a registered postal letter. When Mrs. Tichonchuk returned to the living room she found one of the men in a bedroom. Asking what he wanted, she received a non-committal reply. The other man was in the living room. Mrs. Tichonchuk then walked into the bedroom and the visitor threw a bag over her head, and calling his companion to help him, the woman was carried upstairs to a small attic and threatened with death unless she revealed the hiding place of her husband's money. She refused to answer, and they beat her with their fists. While in the attic the men ripped boards from the floor in an effort to locate the money. Mrs. Tichonchuk was then pushed down the stairs and was thrown down the cellar stairs to the cement floor, it was charged. In the meantime, the woman's hands had been tied behind her back.
LEFT IN CELLAR Leaving the victim in the cellar, the raiders ransacked the house, pull- ing out drawers and spreading the contents on the floor, turning beds over and tearing open mattresses. The money was finally found hidden in a bedroom on the ground floor.
John Turrick, a neighbor, told detectives this afternoon he saw Neyara run out of the house and down a lane. He didn't see the other suspect leave the house.
Mrs. Tichonchuk's screams were heard by Peter Sawa, another neighbor, but he didn't go in the house as he thought the noise was a family disturbance, he related to The Star. In the meantime the victim had dragged herself to the verandah with her hands still tied and Sawa came to her rescue.
Charles Howard, 28, 565 Ottaway avenue, also heard the woman's call for help, and he helped Sawa in rendering first aid. Mrs. Tichnochuk was bleeding from mouth and head wounds, and also on the arms where the ropes had cut into the flesh.
RUSHED TO HOSPITAL The victim was rushed to VictoriaHospital where she was attended by Dr. Murray Simpson.
Detective Earl Knight was in police headquarters when the robbery was reported, and in company with Constables Clipperton and Leach, hurried to the scene in a scout car. The alarm was spread over the city, and provincial traffic police were instructed to watch all roads leading out of London.
The suspects were last seen at the intersection to Hill and William street about two blocks from the house. They called at the Matz grocery store, and asked Miss Jennie Matz, 16, to call a taxi.
Murray Haines, 22. of 605 Emery street, answered the call from the Lasalle Taxi Company, and he drove the two men out of the city. Early this afternoon Haines had not returned to London and police were endeavoring to trace the taxi. Haines was driving a Marquette sedan, sedan, carrying the license number V-1211.
The two suspects, who are Russians, came to Canada about three years ago and have lived in London about that time. They were employed with section gangs on various railroads, but had not been working in recent months.
Mr. Tichonchuk, who was also born in Russia, has lived in London six years. His wife came to this country in 1931.
"I drew the $1,500 from the bank on Saturday to pay hospital and other bills, and I also intended to make a down payment on a small farm," the husband told The Star. The money represented his savings in Canada.
DESCRIPTIONS The descriptions of the two alleged robbers, as supplied to police, are as follows: Neyare, about six feet tall, dark complexion, slim and wearing a blue suit, with a white shirt and no tie, and a grey felt hat; Kozuboski, short and stockily built, red freckled face and wearing a sand colored suit coat, grey trousers and a light brown felt hat.
Miss Matz informed The Star this afternoon that Neyare was very excited when he entered the store, and swore profusely while waiting for the taxi. Kozuboski, she said, bought a package of cigarets and gave her five cents for the phone call.
Another family resides with the Tichonchuks, Mr. and Mrs. J. Andrew, and two small children, Mary and Natalie. They were away at the time of the robbery.

Diwali in the Andaman Islands: What to Expect and Where to Celebrate 🌴
Hello there, and welcome to the Andaman Islands! You’ve picked a wonderful time to visit, as Diwali brings a festive vibe to our otherwise tranquil islands. Although the celebrations here may not be as grand as on the mainland, there’s still plenty to experience as a visitor. Here’s a quick guide to help you plan your Diwali in Andaman:
Where to Celebrate Diwali as a Visitor:
Port Blair – Light Festivities & Local Culture 🌠 In Port Blair, Diwali is a quieter but heartwarming celebration. The main market areas, especially Aberdeen Bazaar, light up with decorations and lamps. You’ll find a festive spirit, as shops and stalls stay open a bit later, offering local sweets and Diwali delicacies.
Local Restaurants & Resorts 🏨 Many hotels and resorts will have special Diwali menus or evening celebrations for guests, including traditional decorations, sweets, and sometimes even small-scale fireworks. WelcomHotel Bay Island and Fortune Resort Bay Island are known to organize cultural evenings and may welcome walk-in guests.
Wandoor Beach – Natural Vibes 🌊 If you prefer to avoid crowded spots, head to Wandoor Beach or Corbyn’s Cove Beach for a peaceful evening. While you may not see organized festivities, the serene beachside atmosphere provides a beautiful backdrop for your own Diwali celebration.
Tips for Diwali in Andaman:
Beaches in the Evening: While you can enjoy the beaches during the day, be mindful that firecrackers are generally discouraged in beach areas to protect marine life and maintain cleanliness.
Travel & Transport: Diwali evening sees less public transport, so plan ahead if you’re relying on taxis. Many locals spend the evening with family, and cabs may be scarce after dark.
Engage with Locals: Andaman locals are incredibly welcoming. You may even get invited to join a small family celebration or try some traditional sweets.

My private pilot check ride EP#7
What a rewarding feeling this was.
A stressful past few days led up to the day of my check ride. I had taken the PPL written test a few days prior and felt good about my book knowledge. Coming from a flying background it was hard for me to want to complete the book knowledge because of how much I had already experience and it felt like I was just relearning everything I had been through. Luckily I walked out of there with an 87% and a smile on my face. I am not a very good test taker under pressure so I was very stressed for that day to come.
The next few days after completing the written test I studied up on my oral questions and was able to use some of my CFI as help for doing mock orals and understanding what knowledge needed to be known for the oral. It was also nice having the University of North Dakota curriculum for studying with the for the check ride as it basically outlined every question that was going to be asked on the check ride. It was a very intense and nerve wracking couple of days until the day finally came.
I was very fortunate to have my dad fly out to join me for my check ride. We arrived early morning to meet up with my DPE Mr Robert Clausen. He was an absolutely amazing examiner and I look forward to having him again for my instrument rating this summer. We went upstairs and completed my oral. Luckily it wasn't terribly bad since he was generous enough to let my use the FAR/AIM as part of a guide for some of the questions. It was definitely terrifying but looking back on it, I definitely got it easy compared to DPE stories i've heard on the internet.
After I had completed the oral portion of the check ride we walked out the aircraft and I completed the walk around. I was more nervous for the oral so this piece felt like a cake walk. We fired up N110WK and completed our run up to taxi out for VFR departure to the south. I showed up that morning with a completed nav log so on departure we flew a simulated route to Aberdeen, South Dakota and about 5 minutes into my route we were told to deviate off our heading just a bit for some arriving and departing traffic off our left. Mr Clausen had me fill out the nav log to the best of my ability using how fast we were going and the time it took for us to get "close" to that fix and how long it would take us to get to the next fix. I showed him I knew how to do that and we moved onto the next portion of the flight. We headed over to a practice area just to our west and completed some basic maneuvers including slow flight, stalls, spacial disorientation which was my favorite. He would have me close my eyes and he would put us into some unusual attitudes and I would have to recover the aircraft. Your really get disoriented because your body cant tell you if your going down or up or in a heavy bank so having to make that split second decision is a crucial part. After I completed basic maneuvers we went over to northwood airport and completed a a few laps in the pattern with birds practically hitting us each time since they were hanging out around the airport property. We then headed back to GFK where we entered the pattern and did a short field landing (or soft field, dont remember) and taxied back to the FBO and shut down. I looked over at him and he said congratulations and I was rushed with excitement. It was such a rewarding feeling to know that everything I have worked for in life was finally paying off. We got out of the airplane and signed the paper work and my temporary certificate and thats all she wrote. Mr Clausen did mention at the end that it maybe would of been smart if we didn't continue at Northwood since it was a really short runway and there were lots of birds in the vicinity. It was definitely a memory I will never forget.

3. The Breathtaking Beaches of Andaman

Andaman is a shopper's delight with its bustling markets. Purchase shell crafts, pearl jewelry, and local artifacts as souvenirs. Aberdeen Bazaar in Port Blair is a great place to shop for these treasures.
