My roommate has started using the word "catlock" as shorthand for their ongoing scheme to baby-trap me with a cat. Also they've started calling Louisa Coffee, the Taiwanese coffee shop chain, "Little Susan's". Who is susan......

moment of unspeakable beauty today when one of my coworkers called another coworker "judas" for not splitting a can of white monster with her, and i got to watch the guy who sits next to me open a new google tab, type in "jeudis," and say quietly to himself "french thursday...?"

We are finally back from manila and I slept >5 hours each night and only 1 hour last night so I'm about to pass out. But we looooved it.

It was intimidating when we first got there because it seemed like there were a lot of rules and security measures. You have to put your bag through security scanners to go into public museums or ride the MRT and there are guards in front of most stores -- not just fancy ones, but like Starbucks, Home Depot, anywhere. But we very quickly realised that the measures are somewhat unserious and the guards are often friendly and don't get paid enough to care when people break rules. They'll say "you can't smoke here" and we'll be like "sorryyyy" and they'll be like "Go around the back where people can't see you."

In one instance, the rules turned out to be completely fake. That was at the drag bar where they said we had to buy 3 alcoholic drinks each and 500 pesos worth of snacks as our minimum spend. I managed 2 coronas and a bottle of water and then told my waiter I had to give up and could I just pay the difference? He was like "hey... You don't have to pay. I like you." And then I realised the whole thing had been a farce and I probably could've nursed one beer all night as long as I didn't cause trouble. Well, you live and learn!!! How was I to know!!!! In Taiwan, rules are really rules!!!!

The culture is so relaxed and friendly that it even reflects on their street cats who will sleep on the middle of the sidewalk with construction going on at full volume next to it. You barely need to open your mouth to pspsps -- if you extend your hand, they'll headbutt it. Outside Manila Church, one climbed into my lap and stayed there nuzzling me for half an hour . Don't worry, i disinfected afterwards.

The three most important Js are junk shops, jolibees, jeepneys.

We finally got to the drag bar and my housemate had 1.5 drinks, started talking crazy and had to go outside and sit on the curb and drink water. I was like are you for real right now. It was like the mdzs crack chapters where lwj gets drunk after 1 drink.
