Sports culture can be so incredibly ugly, but what I love about events like the Olympics is how they show that sportsmanship is truly beautiful.

Ode to the Spanish noble spirit that today supports Palestine 💜
Spanish athlete Iván Fernández Anaya was competing in a cross-country race in Burlada, Navarre. He was running second, some distance behind race leader Abel Mutai - bronze medalist in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the London Olympics. As they entered the finishing straight, he saw the Kenyan runner - the certain winner of the race - mistakenly pull up about 10 meters before the finish, thinking he had already crossed the line. Fernández Anaya quickly caught up with him, but instead of exploiting Mutai's mistake to speed past and claim an unlikely victory, he stayed behind and, using gestures, guided the Kenyan to the line and let him cross first.
Winners don't exploit situations, don't go for the cheap shot. They raise people up.

☝️ ALLAH'IN MÜKEMMEL SANATI ☝️
Tumblr media
Bir gazeteci Ivan'a, "Bunu neden yaptın?" diye sordu.

"Remember Abel Mutai, the Kenyan runner who was just a few steps away from the finish line, but when he saw the sign he was confused and stopped, thinking he had finished the race. Spanish runner Ivan Fernandez was right behind him and when he realized what was happening he started shouting at the Kenyan to keep running. Mutai did not speak or understand Spanish. Realizing what was happening, Fernandez admonished Mutai and carried him to victory. A journalist asked Ivan, "Why did you do that?" Ivan replied, "My dream is that one day we can live a kind of community life where we push each other and help each other win." The journalist insisted, "But why did you let the Kenyan win?" Ivan replied, "I didn't let him win, he was going to win. The race was his." The journalist insisted again, "But you could have won!" Ivan looked at him and replied, "But what would be the value of my victory? What would be the honor of that medal? What would society say about this?" Values are passed down from generation to generation. What values do we teach our children? Let's not teach our children the wrong ways and means of winning. Instead, let's pass on the beauty and humanity of a helping hand. Because even with so much selfishness in the world, honesty should always win.

– erősködött a riporter.

The fact is that racist journalist will never understand.

today's selection
La Palina nicaraguan Connecticut
Toro 6 x 50
smooth medium body, the La Palina Nicaragua Connecticut serves up a complex succession of creamy wood, earth, coffee, pepper, roasted nut, and honey. Blended by none other than master tobacco blender AJ Fernandez! For the folks at La Palina cigars. Abel J Fernandez also is responsible for blending the La Palina nicaraguan oscuro as well.
So if you're a disciple of AJ like I am give both cigars a try.

From the link:
El Pais quotes Fernandez Anaya as saying the following about his decision to not bypass the confused Mutai:
I didn’t deserve to win it. I did what I had to do. He was the rightful winner. He created a gap that I couldn’t have closed if he hadn’t made a mistake. As soon as I saw he was stopping, I knew I wasn’t going to pass him.
The supposed remarks, including the one about “community life,” do not appear in the El Pais article. Fernandez Anaya also wrote about the 2012 race on his blog, but neither a description of such an interaction with a reporter nor the alleged quotes can be found in a translation of his post.
