Ok I have a question that I would love the answer to. I want to do a While You Were Sleeping au with a lewis character, cliche yes I know but just work with me. But I can’t decide if I want to do it with Rhett or Bob
Those who haven’t seen the movie, first omg go watch it, and second you can check the synopsis here if you are curious.
A case for Rhett is that there is the built in tension between him and Perry (who sucks ass lmao). In the movie, we get the sense that Peter is the golden boy of his family while Jack is sort of just… there. Then the whole undercurrent of Rhett wanting to get out from under Royal’s thumb. Which can correlate with everything going on with Jack and his dad’s business. Plus you have all the supernatural stuff going on in Outer Range. It would interesting setting up how Perry even ends up in the coma. Where did readers/oc’s parents go 👀
BUT, in the movie, a huge part of why Lucy keeps up the lie is the sense of family and the love she receives from the Callaghans… which the Abbotts do not give at all :/. A case for Bob is that it would easier to create a kooky but warm and well meaning family for him. More believable than just rewriting the Abbotts to be something they’re not imo. I’m imagining a bunch of fun older sisters, and of course an older brother that Bob lives in the shadow of. A part of the reason why he went into the navy was to create a path of his own and gain some independence. He still feels a bit like the baby when it comes to the family dynamic.
***just for my own sake and others, I did search various things to see if this idea had been done before (for a lewis character). I didn’t see anything but there is something I missed please let me know.
Also if to want to be tagged when it comes out let me know
#I probably won’t let this run the whole week but I don’t think one day is enough#someone falling in love with Perry? not realistic but babes we can go with it if that’s what y’all want#I also think Rhett would def do the whole interrogation thing Jack did#he is just… Tired when it comes to his family lmao#he’d be suspicious fr#also… furniture builder Rhett??? a slay I think#but creating a whole Floyd family? love that too#both Rhett and Bob are charming characters is such distinctly different ways… so I think either will be cute#bob floyd#bob floyd x female reader#bob floyd x reader#bob floyd imagine#tgm imagine#rhett abbott x reader#rhett abbott#rhett abbott x female reader#outer range imagine#bob floyd x you#bob floyd x oc#rhett abbott x you#rhett abbott x oc

Thorpe Abbotts Airbase
Places of Interest in Masters of the Air
Masterlist
The Thorpe Abbotts Airbase/Airfield is located just outside of the village of Thorpe Abbots in Norfolk, England. It was specifically built for the 100th Bomb Group when they came to join the war effort. Flyers with the 100th were set to start arriving in June of 1943, so the engineers and builders had to even out the ground, lay miles and miles of concrete, and build the intricate roads and buildings of the base very quickly.
Many locals did not support the building of the base because it encroached on their farmlands. While the British were happy the Americans were joining the fight, there were definite feelings of animosity towards the 'yanks' (as they call Americans), but most of those faded when the Brits met the airmen who occupied the base.
Donald Miller: Masters of the Air, pgs. 1-2
"Thorpe Abbotts, an American bomber base some ninety miles north of London and a short stroll from the Norfolk hamlet that gave it its name. Station # 139, as it was officially designated, with its 3,500 fliers and support personnel, was built on a nobleman's estate lands, and the crews flew to war over furrowed fields worked by Sir Rupert Mann's tenant farmers, who lived nearby in crumbling stone cottages heated by open hearths. Thorpe Abbotts is in East Anglia, a history-haunted region of ancient farms, curving rivers, and low flat marshland. It stretches northward from the spires of Cambridge, to the high-sitting cathedral town of Norwich, and eastward to Great Yarmouth, an industrial port on the black waters of the North Sea. With its drainage ditches, wooden windmills, and sweeping fens, this low-lying slice of England brings to mind nearby Holland, just across the water. It is a haunch of land that sticks out into the sea, pointed, in the war years, like a raised hatchet at the enemy. And its drained fields made good airbases from which to strike deep into the German Reich. A century or so behind London in its pace and personality, it had been transformed by the war into one of the great battlefronts of the world, a war front unlike any other in history (Miller, 2007, pgs. 1-2)."

New email from Bill Abbott:
Hi everyone,
It has been an extremely busy few weeks as we prepared our schedule for August through December and completed the final edits to some of the many movies that will premiere over the coming months. I want to thank all of you who have reached out – your notes warm my heart and continue to strengthen us in our mission to provide great faith & family content.
We really hope you enjoyed the premiere of The Abigail Mysteries two weeks ago. The reaction from viewers has been so positive that it is our plan to make this into a series of movies that you can enjoy over the next few years. This will be additive to many of the other mystery movies we have in development to roll out in the first part of 2024. I also hope you were able to watch Unlikely Angel over this past weekend. This was created by the team at Pure Flix and is an instant example of the content we will be able to share across both the streaming platform and Great American Family.
There are other fun movies airing over the next few weeks, so I thought it would be helpful if I shared the schedule with a few of my thoughts. All movies air at 8PM ET.
8/19/2023 Saturday Stepping Into Love: We had originally called this “Summertime Soulmates” but then we thought perhaps we were overthinking the title! It’s cute, but imperfect.
8/21/2023 Monday Strong Fathers Strong Daughters: This premiered on Pure Flix – it is well done, but we edited some of the tougher scenes between the Dad and the Daughter to keep it as light, yet thoughtful, as possible.
8/26/2023 Saturday Dream Wedding: We all found this movie extremely entertaining, and Jesse Hutch and the body builder have some very funny moments. That said, you may have to be in the right mood for this one, and we didn’t love that the plot is built on deception…so just a heads up!
8/28/2023 Monday 10 Steps to Love
9/2/2023 Saturday Learning to Love: Another Pure Flix original that we think you will appreciate. There is a nice faith component to this, and while we don’t love the notion of the teacher-dad romance, to us this was tasteful and a fun story in the tradition of Parent Trap.
As the Summer winds down and we head into Fall, there are a number of things we have been considering, including a Podcast, a “watch the movie with us” night, and/or an after the movie on-line get together. If any of these seem especially interesting to you, feel free to let me know.
Finally, we are all looking forward to Great American Christmas Year 3 and I want to let you know that “Destined for Christmas 2” (to be formally titled “Destined at Christmas”) turned out really well and both Casey Eliot and Shae Robins are wonderful in the movie! We are thrilled their story continues and I believe you will love the new story!
Again, thank you for your loyalty, passion and support. I try to write to as many of you as I can, but the response has been overwhelming. If I missed you, my apologies and I will try to get back to as many of you as possible over the next few weeks. Enjoy the remainder of the Summer and let us know what we are doing right, and equally important, where improvement is needed. I have great respect for your opinions and really care what you think about how we are doing!
Best, Bill

University of Austin aims to foster free inquiry, entrepreneurship
A VISION FOR EDUCATION Ramya Nambala’s dream was simple: go to Harvard University’s Law School and become president of the United States.
But as a sophomore at the University of Texas’ prestigious Canfield Business Honors Program, she began questioning what she wanted higher education to do for her.
“What I wanted to do is be my own boss and create things that are good,” Nambala said.
“UT and many other traditional schools are built to get you a job.”
Torn, Nambala created a vision board and cut out a quote: “Say yes.”
The next day, while listening to a podcast, she heard venture capitalist Joe Lonsdale discuss the innovative energy in the fledgling University of Austin, where he was one of four cofounders.
“I just looked at that vision board,” Nambala said. “I was like, ‘Why is this so perfect?’ ”
On Sept. 9, Nambala restarted her undergraduate career to join 91 other students as the founding class of the University of Austin – the city’s newest higher education institute, nestled on the third floor of the historic Scarbrough Building downtown.
Many questioned her choice, she said.
But to her, not taking that chance would have been unthinkable.
“So much is broken in America. But higher education might be the most fractured institution of all.”
Pano Kanelos
UATX president
At a time when one college is closing per week, according to The Hechinger Report, the University of Austin wants to lead the industry into a hopeful future, integrating an inventive spirit with a return to the study of classic, foundational texts.
Culturally, it wants to counter illiberalism and censorship, which school leaders say is pervasive in higher education today, with a commitment to free inquiry and pursuit of truth. And students want to lead.
“Students here are true builders. It’s so inspiring to see how they will be creators,” said Nambala, who spoke to the American-Statesman during her second week of class.
“We all say we know a couple of us will be billionaires, and it’s a joke, but I feel like it’s actually true.”
Why was the University of Austin launched?
When Pano Kanelos said in 2021 that he was founding a new university in Austin, everybody listened.
“So much is broken in America. But higher education might be the most fractured institution of all,” wrote Kanelos, who had been the president of the country’s third-oldest university, St. John’s College in Annapolis, Md.
In some corners, the notion that something was wrong with higher education struck a nerve.
Critics argued that the University of Austin was a college for canceled conservative-leaning thinkers against woke ideology, and advisers such as the former University of Chicago president backed out early.
But in other corners, it resonated.
More than 1,000 people submitted inquiries in the first 24 hours, and 100% of faculty members who were offered a job accepted it, said Jacob Howland, the founding provost and dean of intellectual foundations.
Once it secured a certificate of authority from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the university began recruiting applicants and offering free tuition for the founding class.
In early September, Gov. Greg Abbott welcomed that class at the Capitol, shaking each student’s hand.
“The interest is enormous,” Howland said. “We feel like we have a lot of momentum right now, and we’re going to need it, because we still have a lot we need to do.”
How is the University of Austin different?
Sept. 9 was the students’ first day, but it’s far from the university’s first outing.
At the March 9 opening of its Austin Union, the school’s debate society, former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke.
youtube
The self-styled UATX sponsored an event at South by Southwest and formed a partnership with Capital Factory, a local startup incubator and center for entrepreneurs, which will hold the university’s Office of Entrepreneurship and Leadership and help students through their four-year project.
The university’s foundations already diverge from tradition.
UATX does not have tenure, or diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
None of its deans has held such a position before, Howland said.
“Ours is a revolutionary institution – revolutionary in the proper sense,” Kanelos, the founding president, said in his opening welcome Sept. 2.
“The word revolution – in its original sense, revolvere – means to revolve, to turn back to a point of origin, with the purpose of renewing an original spirit or ideal.”
UATX released a constitution codifying its leaders’ responsibilities, notably creating an independent judicial body to hold the leaders accountable to the institution’s values, something leaders say has not been done at a university before.
The university also started a bitcoin endowment aiming to raise $5 million, what it says is the first such long-term endowment at a higher education institution.
How does UATX fit into political landscape?
The school has a philosophy of teaching and learning in a way that all views can be put forth and debated to pursue the truth.
Howland said this requires a commitment to academic freedom and prioritizing learning over activism.
As public trust in higher education has plummeted and tensions on campuses over domestic and international conflicts brew, the University of Austin has surfaced as an appealing antidote to some.
Bloomberg reported that the controversy over how Ivy League presidents handled antisemitism after Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks on Israel brought more donors and applicants to UATX.
Parents “want that joyful, rich education that they had to be available to their students,” Howland said. “And they began to worry; especially after Oct. 7, they realized that there’s a lot of things going on in universities other than teaching and learning.”
Morgan Marietta joined the University of Austin as dean of the Center for Economics, Politics and History after a brief stint at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Marietta had resigned from his post after the dean of his college instituted new guidelines for events, including mandating prior approval, sharing a copy of planned remarks and a risk assessment and mitigation plan, after he held a Q& A that escalated when pro-Palestinian students claimed the event was onesided.
In an interview with the Statesman, he critiqued academia as prioritizing “mainstream liberal progressive” hires over unconventional thinkers like himself, and institutions as practicing conformity and censorship instead of tackling highly charged topics.
“The decline has been just horrifying over the last 20 years, watching the ability to engage in other discussions of important events just decline and decline,” Marietta said. “We need new institutions. I don’t think the current schools are going to reform themselves.”
Who is UATX attracting?
For Constantin Whitmire, UATX stood out from the other places to which he applied. Whitmire, who has lived in San Francisco and Germany, wanted to study where he could focus on learning and building new things away from “echo chambers.”
“I didn’t want to go to a place that was all politically buzzed up (and focused on) modern-day politics and current events and going out demonstrating the entire day,” Whitmire said. “I wanted to spend time focusing on my academics and maybe building a project on the side.”
Nambala, who said she considers herself to be politically moderate, chose UATX not for the political landscape but to pursue all of her passions, from her artificial intelligence nonprofit to her novel to her interest in space and quantum computing.
“I truly believe I could impact a billion people, but before UATX, I didn’t actually think I could,” said Nambala, who hopes to create such an impact within 10 years.
“These successful people are looking to invest in ambitious young people, and they will provide you with outsized opportunities that you can only dream of.”
Ben Crocker, the university’s director of special programs and associate director of admission, said applicants largely are from families that have been interested since the beginning or are students the school recruited like “an elite sports team,” an idea he credits to Lonsdale.
He characterizes the institution’s students as patriotic, independent and highly motivated.
“A lot of these kids have sort of been in relative isolation,” Crocker said. At an event for prospective students last winter, he said their union was incredible. “There was this explosion of creativity and energy; they were just over the moon.”
Before classes began, students formed organizations, wrote and directed a seven- minute film, and founded a publication called the Austin Beacon, Howland said, speaking to the students’ drive to boldly “found” the institution.
Howland said students have diverse ages, socioeconomic backgrounds and political persuasions.
Data the college released showed that 68% of its students are male and 45% are from Texas.
The college had an acceptance rate of 26%, and deans directly approved the applicants.
The school did not release racial demographic data for applicants.
Applications for its next class opened Friday, also offering free tuition for four years.
What will UATX become?
Students occupy most of two floors of a West Campus residential complex, Howland said.
A shuttle takes them to the downtown campus – a navy- and gold-themed open floor with a library, a lecture hall and four classrooms, a dining area where students eat lunch with professors, and an open atrium to play chess, converse and pore over texts in study nooks.
As staff and faculty members soak in their realized vision, they feel eager for the world to see the university’s potential to transform students’ lives.
“Our donors are saying, ‘We really want to transform higher education as a whole,’ ” Howland said. “All these things just (make) an unbeatable package of excellence, and that’s my hope, that we quickly become known for that.”
Kanelos told the Statesman last winter that he sees the long-term vision of the institution as a “Stanford to UT’s Berkeley,” rivaling the flagship university on the Forty Acres, about a mile and a half north.
More broadly, he sees UATX as higher education’s “north star” – a symbol also on the school’s logo – that poses an alternative to polarization.
“We’re an immensely hopeful university,” Kanelos said “The fact that we’re succeeding is simply a sign that there is such hunger for institutions that want to be problem solving and want to be helpful in the future.”
Mike Shires, the university’s chief of staff and a professor, shares
Kanelos’ belief that UATX will transform higher education and help rebuild trust. And to him, that starts with the students.
“They’re young men and women who have literally chosen to pick an institution where there’s risk associated. It’s brand new,” Shires said.
“They’ve come here to build a student body in a student learning community that can carry forward for future generations.

Texas Has Massive Wall-Building Contracts. But It Doesn’t Have Anywhere To Put A Wall.#Texas #Massive #WallBuilding #Contracts #Doesnt #Put #Wall
The last contract that the state of Texas signed for its state-funded version of Trump’s border wall was for a cool $137.3 million. And until the state legislature commits more funding to Gov. Greg Abbott (R)’s wall-building campaign, that will be it. But there’s a question lurking beneath the massive infrastructure spend: Texas is paying the builders, but does it have a place to build? Caroline’s Expanded Collection, Book 4: Caroline Takes a Chance
As part of an ongoing project, I am attempting to fill in the gaps of Caroline’s collection by imagining and creating what I think she would have been given had she been released in the Pleasant Company era, instead of 2012. She was only available for three years, and had only a few outfits and accessories before she retired. As I’ve been rereading her stories, I’ve tried to identify exactly what elements in her books could have been turned into clothes and playsets. A full collection would have been amazing, because her books are really, really good! If you haven’t read them yet, I recommend doing that. She’s such a well-written character and her stories are fast-paced and always interesting.
Caroline Abbott’s story takes place in the first year of the War of 1812, between Great Britain and the United States, which had only won its independence three decades previously. She is the daughter of a ship builder in Sackets Harbor, New York, right on the shores of Lake Ontario. When the war begins and the British take her father captive, Caroline is forced to grow up quickly and accept many changes in her life. She must remain strong and steady as she waits for her father to come home.
In Caroline Takes a Chance, Caroline and her friends Seth and Rhonda are fishing in the lake when they spy a British war ship chasing an American ship bringing much-needed supplies to Sackets Harbor. The three friends make the difficult decision to hack apart their boat in an attempt to block the British ship from entering a waterway. Later on, as a favor to Seth, Caroline offers to take his mail delivery route. When she finishes that, she decides to take the long way home and in doing so makes an exciting discovery that changes everything!
Check out my tag for the rest of Caroline’s expanded collection for her five other books!
I based her accessories on things that show up in the book: a canvas mail bag, a handful of mail, a lantern with a candle, a lunch bag with food, a fishing pole, a fishing basket, and three trout.
Her lavender dress is featured on the cover of the book, and appears in a few other illustrations in other books as well. I made the dress about two years ago, but I recently did some reconstruction in the bodice after some of the stitching came loose because I used kind of poor quality fabric in the lining the first time, so it looks a little more presentable now. I bought the lavender-print cotton from eBay; it’s actually a reproduction of a fabric produced in 1830! She’s borrowing Felicity’s round-eared cap, which I also made, and she’s wearing Bitty Baby boots.
Caroline and Seth teach Rhonda how to fish, and this basket can hold all the trout they’re sure to catch. I made the basket using burlap coated with glue and shaped around a mold, which makes surprisingly durable baskets! The fish are painted clay, and the fishing pole is a dowel with a string attached.
Seth Whittleslee is the local post walker, and he walks miles around Sackets Harbor delivering mail and newspapers to residents. When he decides to join the navy, Caroline offers to fill in on his last day of work so that he can go join a day early. She carries his waxed canvas mail bag.
I based this on the book’s vignette illustration. I painted the rectangles of canvas fabric with a mix of white glue and food coloring.
She’s got a few letters inside the bag. In Caroline’s time, letters weren’t mailed in an envelope. They were folded and sealed with hot wax, into which a metal stamp was pressed that contained the sender’s signature symbol. I tried using candle wax to seal them, but that didn’t work so well, so I used hot glue and paint instead.
Since she starts her route early in the morning, Mama insists she take a lantern, which I made from wooden craft sticks and clear plastic. The candle inside is a birthday candle. I painted both the wood and the windows with glue/food coloring mix, which creates transparent paint. It looks good on wood because it preserves the natural grain look of the wooden sticks, and keeps the windows from becoming opaque.
For the lunch that Mama packs for Caroline, I used a fabric scrap to make a simple drawstring bag.
She’s got a lunch of bread, cheese, and smoked fish, wrapped in an embroidered cloth napkin. These are all painted clay.

A hasidic Jewish man has been stabbed in a suspected hate crime in London's Stoke Newington, suffering head wounds. The man was later identified by the Jewish Chronicle as Rabbi Alter Yaakov Schlesinger, an orthodox rabbi from Stamford Hill’s Satmar community.
The attacker was tackled by builders working nearby, and pinned to the floor while police were called.
A friend of the victim, who arrived at the scene shortly after has told MailOnline that he saw blade wounds to the man's skull. According to the friend, the victim had been standing outside a bank when the attack happened.
Schlesinger, who is in his 50s, is identifiably Jewish, and was wearing orthodox clothing. He is thought to be in a stable condition as he was talking at the scene when dozens of emergency vehicles arrived, including the Jewish ambulance service Hatzalah.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called today (12 June) at 10.56am to reports of a stabbing in Stoke Newington High Street, Stoke Newington," according to The Mirror.
...Ephraim Goldstein, a volunteer with the Metropolitan police tweeted that the local MP, Labour's Dianne Abbott, had received complaints only the previous day regarding posters appearing at a bus station in the vicinity reading "End state brutality," and "End Israeli Apartheid."
The area is home to one of London's largest Jewish orthodox populations.
Minister of Diaspora Affairs Omer Yankelevitch tweeted on Friday that the attack “demonstrates that Jews in the Diaspora continue to face the threat of antisemitism even during this pandemic outbreak of the coronavirus.”
“I intend to augment the program to combat antisemitism and to ensure the security needs of Jews worldwide. We are the address for all Jews globally,” she added. "Antisemitic incidents have become commonplace and part of what Jews around the world are going through," Vice Chairman of the World Zionist Organization Yaakov Hagoel said in response to the stabbing...

(A big shout out to IDSB for starting this)
" I want to wear pink and tell you how I feel about politics” - Taylor Swift.
Who am I? I’m almost 25, can’t remember half the time that I’ve been alive... For real though, for those who don’t know, I’m Jess, I’m 24 and I’m in the final year of a law/psychology double degree.
While I will be forever grateful for the privileges in my life I’ve received through the colour of my skin and growing up in a country that has afforded me opportunities that others could only dream of, Australia is still a nation that is far from gender equality; especially when it comes to those of different nationalities, health statuses and economic classes. And though I know my story is not the worst there is, I’ve definitely felt that throughout my life.
Looking back, I’ve realised that a lot of my story comes with intergenerational trauma. For as many generations I’ve known on both sides of my family, there have been women who were forced to give up their independence to make up for what the, typically abusive, men in their lives lacked. Both of my grandmothers dropped out of school to raise their siblings and/or work after my great grandfathers abandoned them. In my maternal grandmother’s case, this meant she never learned to read. These women went on to marry equally as abusive men to secure some form of financial stability for their children. When my mother was 15, she fled a physically abusive home just as her older sister had before her. My mother then bounced from one abusive relationship to the next until she met my father, a “nice man” who 23 years down the line would emotionally abuse her and leave her in debt knowing that 20 years beforehand, she had given up her higher paying career that would have risen us out of poverty to raise their children. More generally, from my knowledge, only three females in the history of my family had the chance to go to university; my aunt who married into the family and went beforehand, my cousin who finished a latin degree and me. Meanwhile, most of the men in my extended family are doctors, engineers and high paid builders. With the exception of that aunt, none of the women in my family are breadwinners.
And I know that all sounds very depressing and it would be very easy to say things are different now... and in many ways they are; but there’s also a long way to go and a lot of misogyny I have seen in my lifetime. Like did you guys know that the legal field is one of the fields with the largest pay gap between males and females within Australia? Ironic huh, we pushed for everyone else to pay evenly and yet never practiced what we preached. Likewise, a recent study showed that sexual violence, one of the few crimes mostly aimed at women, is the crime that police within the country are least likely to record let alone follow up with. And of course, studies are still indicating that the glass ceiling and glass cliff effects are still issues for women in the workplace.
We see it all the time, Hilary Clinton losing the election to someone with no experience because she wrote some emails, Elizabeth Warren doing so poorly in primaries despite the fact she’s not all that different to Bernie Sanders, Julia Gillard having to tell Tony Abbott to stop talking over women on women’s issues. Time and time again, we see women being knocked down and then blamed for having a reaction. On a personal level, in 2017, after a frustrating talk with a now ex friend, I wrote this post. In short, it labelled all my frustrations from seeing myself and other women constantly hurt in one form or another at the hands of men, and how even men like him who are apathetic and refuse to help fight for us because they see it as something that doesn’t concern them and ‘not all men are like that’ hurts us. In my degree, I have constantly been told I have ‘a woman’s heart which is far too big and caring for [the law field]’ or that I’m too emotional because of my past traumas. Likewise, when my mother approached a lawyer about retrieving the debt my father left us in and I called him out for saying he couldn’t when law states she could have gotten an order from the courts within 24 hours for dad to pay up given she wasn’t working, the lawyer turned to me and said ‘well I wouldn’t know that. I never did family law. Too many women who get pissy when they’re kids get any time with their fathers’.
Yet, women are also expected to be compassionate and courteous. Over the years, I was attacked for not reaching out to reconnect my beyond broken family in a way my brother wasn’t because ‘reconnecting people is a woman’s specialty’ and have been deemed heartless for accepting that outside my brother and mother, I will never talk to my family again. I have watched as my sister and I learned to clean in our teens compared to my brother and father who at the ages of 28 and 57 respectively who to be honest, I’m not even sure knows how most cleaning items work. Additionally, I, someone who is childless, have been expected to babysit children (and grown ass men) as well as had discussions where the other criticised me for going to university assuming I’d give up my career in the future when kids (which I’m not even sure I want) come along because ‘women are better with this emotion stuff’.
And that’s the issue, isn’t it? It’s a Catch 22. For I’ve found that being raised as a woman in the 21st Century means that in order to do anything, I must be able to do everything. I have to be a good person, loved one, homemaker, business woman, advocate and more just to receive what I deserve in life. So I will leave you with one last thought...
If I was a man, I’d be allowed to simply exist.
