So as you very obviously know I’m rereading the book, so my memory is getting refreshed as I go, so I need to add something to the question about my favorite line(s)

Obviously the Mr. Seek line, but i would like to add this fragment of a statement from Poole to Utterson- “… if by any chance he were to ask you in, don’t go.” (Chapter: The Last Night)

This is my third time reading this story, this is also the time I’ve paid the most attention to what’s being said, the word choices, the character’s actions. This line gave me chills

Imagine you’re Utterson, your best friend has been being blackmailed by some fiend who finally leaves their lives after killing someone you knew. Your friend is back to normal and everything’s wonderful!!! Then one day, your other friend is sick. He warns against your mutual friend, the other part to your trio since childhood, and dies days later.

Your best friend is back to shutting himself inside, but you can talk to him through the window. Something still haunts him, lurks behind his shoulder and he leaves in terror soon after.

His faithful butler soon calls you up, and every servant at your friend’s house is terrified, huddled together, crying, shaking. The butler brings you to the room where your friend is shut in, your best friend who you have been worried sick about, who you just want to see again.

“If by any chance he were to ask you in,” your friend... Your beloved friend… “don’t go.”

Sorry if this has been asked before about J&H, but what’s your favorite detail(s) in the book and what’s some of your favorite dialogue or little bits of character info that people might not pick up on originally? :0

Favorite details, I’ve mentioned one or two before, mainly that in Utterson’s first meeting with Hyde, Hyde was scared for a second before calming himself down!!!!! Never normal about that!!!! And just all of Hyde’s interactions with Utterson tbh… that’s his best friend…. The man who’s been by his side forever… who doesn’t recognize him, who thinks him a monster, who lies to his face…. I can never be normal about them….

Favorite dialogue… I’m very open about that… I’ll give you three guesses <3 (and it doesn’t really count as dialogue I suppose, but Lanyon’s letter is everything to me)

It’s not really something that most don’t pick up on immediately, but I love how Jekyll talks about/treats Hyde. Referring to him as a whole other person to distance himself from his actions, the way he admires him despite his loathing, what Hyde represents to him, to everything about Jekyll and his character as Hyde drives me to madness (in the cool, kinda pathetic, mad scientist way (like Frankenstein or Jekyll))
