While it did take a bit of convincing, he did get the guardians to allow Shuichi into the tower properly in order to take a look around and so that Morty could show him one of his favorite places in the city. It probably helped that his family had aided them in caring for this place for generations, but he was happy that he got to explore this place with a friend like he had when he was younger with Eusine.

"A shame that we're unlikley to be able to have an audience with the legendary pokemon here, though merely visiting this part o the tower is rather rare for those who don't meet the requirements." What those were simple, really: a feather from the legendary pokemon, a clear bell, and a pure heart. Though, simple as it was, one of those were far easier to get than the other two.

"You already heard about the legends regarding Ho-Oh, right?" Morty was more than happy to explain it to him if he hadn't. Being able to talk about the legends of his home was one of his favorite things to do, and it made him feel honored to be able to.

To say he was excited was practically an understatement, with how giddy Shuichi looked when the guards allowed Morty to take him inside of the bell tower. Never did he think he would have a chance to be able to do so... it was a special privilege that he was never going to forget.

"I-It's fine!! Even if we don't see Ho-oh, I'm honored enough as is to even be able to venture inside here: thank you very much! Yes, I don't think I ever would have had the chance to enter here, otherwise.. the inside truly looks so amazing...." It certainly would be the dream to somehow obtain such rare items, if already having, what he hopes at least, is a pure heart to Ho-oh's standards, and to actually be able to meet the legendary bird, itself... But even if that's something that probably would not happen for many years down the line, if ever: he was content enough just seeing the inside of the tower. The air alone felt mystical...

"U-Um, only some of the more well known tales about it that I've read in some of my studies. Like how more than a century ago, there used to be a second tower to the west, but a lighting bolt struck it, and Ho-oh fled... and that three Pokemon perished in that tower. Though that was quite a long while ago since I've read about it, and there is still not a lot about the towers in Ho-oh in general that I know about, but I've always been intrigued to learn more. Could you tell me more about them, if that's okay? The legends regarding it, that is... I'm sure you would be able to tell me a lot more, than what I may find in more books."

"Thank you very much...!" Once Morty begins, Shuichi listens excitedly. Learning that it was actually Lugia that resided at the Brass Tower before it fled, and that three Pokemon that Ho-oh revived are called Suicune, Entei, and Raikou, who are still wandering the region to this day... it was all so fascinating to learn... "I see, I see... how interesting...." With Morty's eagerness to tell him about these tales only contributing to that.

"So you can summon Lugia with the same methods as Ho-oh...ah, yes, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to even find those items, on top of needing a pure heart to begin with. If only your family has obtained the feathers so far, then a regular person must have not met the legendary birds personally yet, before...." Which he wasn't too surprised about; they were legendaries, after all....it was probably much more likely to go your entire life without ever seeing them, than that very rare chance of a lifetime to do so...

"Thank you for telling more about it, it's all so fascinating! I bet it would be a joy to witness either of the birds at least once... Ah-" When asked if he has any questions, Shuichi ponders what he wants to ask for a moment, before speaking up:

"So Ho-oh has the power to resurrect the dead, like it did for the three legendary beasts... In regards to that, has there ever been another instance where it has revived a Pokemon....maybe even a person? And does Lugia have that same ability, you think? I'm just curious, really: the power to resurrect the dead...is truly an amazing ability..."

It was a privilege that was allowed to very few, though Morty was glad to see that his efforts to make this happen were so greatly rewarded. Shuichi was a kind soul, and it was good for the spirits that lingered in the tower still to have someone so pure of heart walk the halls again. Even with that aside, Morty just liked Shuichi quite a bit from their first meeting, as disastrous as it was at first, and Shuichi allowing him to info dump about his favorite subject to his heart’s content? It made him all the more sure that this was the perfect idea. 

“It will be a pleasure to tell you. You’re correct in that it is part of the legend. Though, the tower that burned down, the Brass tower, was where Lugia had once resided. Both of the great flying pokemon fled their towers, with Lugia fleeing to the Whirl Islands and Ho-Oh seeking someone of a pure heart, though before leaving, Ho-Oh revived the three pokemon that perished in the fire,” Morty’s eyes are filled with a pure wonder as he recounts the tale. He had heard it countless times in the past, and every time, he could only imagine how wonderful it was all those generations ago to be someone who could live in the same city as the legendary duo. 

“Suicune, Entei, and Raikou are the three that were revived, and now, they wander the region. There is a way to summon both of the legendary birds, though. Getting one of their feathers, a special bell, and the permission from the dancers that have been taught how to perform a ritual to summon them… that is the way to gain an audience with them. Though, it is much easier said than done. Even my own family has only obtained the feathers..” They were heirlooms that were passed down for several generations, treasures that marked them as protectors of the city, and even now, they were in pristine condition, something he would be proud to show Shuichi when he got to that. 

“Do you have any questions about it, thus far? I’d be happy to answer any that you could have.”

Eelektross in Hisui AU idea, I know we are still in the "events prior to Ingo showing up as the plot solution" but the idea of Ingo's and his beloved but Horrible Wet Guard Dog, that is almost overpowered for the setting (modern professional fighting pokemon have access to all the food, training and potions/ healthcare they need and research has figured better training methods like IV and EV, their only weakness is they follow Stardard Battle Rules like No cutting turn order or no mob Vs one guy) Anyways Ingo only somewhat remembers Eelektross (You have to have Ingo remember eelektross's train pun nickname, I recommend Catenary which is the wires that power electric trains/trolleys) So we have this Legendary Monster that terrorized and chased people for Weeks sitting in Ingo lap being scratched behind the ear(?) fins, wiggling in happiness, while Meille in the background is recovering from being electricuted (Ingo Did Not want to be Touched and eelektross Will make sure that is Respected)

Oh Ingo definitely doesn't remember Eelektross. Though, as you said, he finds him to be verrry familiar and is way more understanding of his behavior than others. I think it'd take even Akari and Laventon some time to stop seeing Eelektross as a wildly territorial pokemon. Ingo, meanwhile, picks up on the fact that his playful and friendly demeanor and behavior are being mistaken for aggression almost right away.

Ingo himself struggles to explain WHY he's able to make this connection beyond just stating that he somehow KNOWS and chalking it up to some kind of intuition. Regardless Eelektross is thrilled to finally find someone he now only knows, but who doesnt treat him either as a beast or some subject of research. So their relationship is relatively good. Whether or not Eelektross tries to help with Ingo's memory loss or is content with just watching over him is still up in the air atm tho he'd definitely grow verrrrry protective of Ingo after everything he's been through.

Eelektross is also definitely OP. Not just due to all the training, but because his species is a complete unknown in Hisui. I mean there aren't that many species in Hisui who can boast having no natural weaknesses in legends arceus especially if one considers Eelektross has a hand on his natural abilities (levitate) in a way that trainers and pokemon in the past dont quite have gives him a unique advantage.

As you say though, this is a double edged sword. Eelektross does NOT do well alone in the wild. Despite being well trained, in prime condition, and very powerful hes been raised taking direction from a trainer and while he does draw on certain memories of strategies Emmet came up with and used in the past, he doesnt have the skill to come up with any strategies of his own. Beyond that he has always been entirely reliant on humans for food, shelter, etc. and so fails in the wild because of that as well.

In fact, its that reliance on humans that more or less causes him to be mistaken as an aggressive creature in the first place.

I don't know about nicknames as I rarely ever give Ingo and Emmets pokemon nicknames (one exception being Ingos Excadrill eventually earning the nicname "Nana" in his absence but thats from a whole other concept) but calling him "Catenary" will certainly make things easier.

Okay, so I went ahead and did it. I went ahead and started turning Undertale AUs into NON-Legendary/Mythical Pokemon, starting with the Dreamtale Twins (+ Shattered). This is gonna be Version 1, as I have multiple ideas that don't go together.

~Nightmare (Version 1)~

Name: Alphera (Alpha + Hera).

Category: The Majesty Pokemon.

Type: Dragon/Poison.

Abilities: Queenly Majesty or Moxie.

Hidden Ability: Serene Grace.

Signature Move: Cross Poison.

Gender Ratio: 12.5% male, 87.5% female.

Height: 5'11".

Pokédex Entry: Alphera is a dual-type Dragon/Poison Pokemon and the evolved form of Dracocub. This Pokemon is the dominant member of its pride and rules with absolute authority, comparable to a monarch. It prides itself on retaining an elegant appearance and will often refrain from engaging in combat for this reason. It has an eye for jewels and will often decorate itself with shiny things. As such, an Alphera's den is a common hoarding ground for evolutionary stones and various treasures. Alphera is notably protective of Dracocubs and will protect them from major threats. Whenever a Dracocub in its pride is endangered by a mighty foe, Alphera will shed its majestic demeanor and embrace its ferocious instincts. It was previously thought to secrete special toxins to make Dracocubs obedient and loyal.

Trivia: Alphera is primarily based on the idea of a manticore, but also takes inspiration from Pyroar and Vespiquen. In terms of gameplay, a Dracocub would only be able to evolve into an Alphera depending on its stats/IVs. An Alphera's scorpion tail has grown to full length and size, and is thus more able to effectively use it in combat, hence why it has a Poison typing while Dracocub doesn't.

~Dream (Version 1)~

Name: Dracocub (Draco + Cub).

Category: The Loyal Pokemon.

Type: Dragon.

Abilities: Vital Spirit or Pickup.

Hidden Ability: Poison Touch.

Signature Move: Noble Roar.

Gender Ratio: 12.5% male, 87.5% female.

Height: 2'0".

Pokédex Entry: Dracocub is a mono-type Dragon Pokemon and the pre-evolved form of Alphera. This Pokemon makes up the majority of a pride. Though its poison has not fully developed, it will still use its stinger to attack foes. Dracocubs are childlike in personality and idolize Alphera, striving to become stronger and more responsible. In order to please the leader of the pride, Dracocubs will often go scavenging for shiny objects. Previously thought to be mindless followers, Dracocubs are remarkably intuitive and stay loyal to an Alphera based on its behavior and leadership. If an Alphera mistreats its pride, a Dracocub may defect from the group and become a stray.

Trivia: Although a Dracocub does not have a secondary typing, its Poison Touch ability comes from the fact that it still has poison in its body, it just can't effectively use it. Being scratched by a Dracocub's scorpion tail still has a chance of poisoning someone. Because Dracocubs are social creatures, it is very rare to find a stray. If a Dracocub is a stray for long enough, it can achieve a special evolution separate from Alphera.

~Shattered (Version 1)~

Name: Manticruel (Manticore + Cruel).

Category: The Survival Pokemon.

Type: Poison/Dark.

Abilities: Intimidate or Moxie.

Hidden Ability: Corrosion.

Signature Move: Dire Claw.

Gender Ratio: Inconsistent.

Height: 5'5".

Pokédex Entry: Manticruel is a dual-type Poison/Dark Pokemon and the evolved form of Dracocub. When a Dracocub becomes so consumed by negativity, whether it be from surviving on its own or being mistreated, it turns cold-hearted and evolves into this form. Due to the potency of its venom, only the most experienced trainers should attempt to catch this Pokemon. If a stray Dracocub evolves into a Manticruel, it may return to its original pride to challenge the Alphera in a battle to the death. On this rare occasion, a pride may be led by a Manticruel. Although a Manticruel's trust may be earned by a trainer, it can never return to its once sociable and innocent nature.

Trivia: Originally, Manticruel was going to be a Dragon/Dark type. Manticruel often live far from the habitats of other Pokemon primarily due to their self-reliant nature, and they can be very territorial. Their territory is often marked by scratches and a pungent odor of toxic substances. Although there is no kind of permit officially required to catch a Manticruel, it is widely believed that only experienced trainers should go seeking one. A Dracocub can also evolve into a Manticruel if it is met with enough mistreatment from its trainer.

i was suddenly struck with the concept for a la squadra pokemon trainer au, so here are my ideas

although not officially recognised as a team yet, they're a tight knit group who help each other out and team up oftem.

risotto - an intimidating trainer who specialises in dark and steel types. he was formerly a gym leader, but stepped down after he grew tired of the life style. after resigning, he shifted his priorities and now assists his friends with battling and resources for looking after their pokemon. despite how scary he seems, he has a deep bond with all of the pokemon on his team.

sorbet and gelato - the two of them live away from the energy of the city and tournaments. they don't seem like strong opponents at first glance, but both are very perceptive and strategic trainers who can easily hold their own in a battle. although neither of them have full teams, they always work together and their pokemon get along well. despite their skill, they don't take battling seriously and don't plan on making a name for themselves. they just want to spend time with each other and their pokemon.

prosciutto - a very serious trainer with a strong team. although the fame of tournaments and the like holds no appeal for him, he's still serious about battles. he meticulously plans every move, and the only way other trainers stand a chance against him is to strategise just as much. under his cold exterior, he has a soft spot for poison type pokemon. prosciutto believes they're misunderstood.

illuso - he's clever and sly, using the environment and non-physical moves to get the advantage. he has an admiration for psychic and ghost type pokemon, especially the way they use illusions and tricks to win. he doesn't believe that using those sorts of tactics makes a fight unfair. illuso is very proud of his pokemon, and likes to take care of them and groom them so they always look and act their best.

formaggio - coming from a farm that bred and raised pokemon, formaggio has a lot of knowledge on how to care for them. his pokemon are a very tight knit team who work together well. although he's a talented trainer and will challenge other trainers who he thinks he can beat, battling isn't a big concern of his. he and illuso bicker a lot about strategies and training methods.

melone - although he's not a certified professor, melone researches pokemon and their relationships to humans. his studies covers some more... unconventional aspects. he is fascinated by artificial pokemon, and hopes to understand them. he has no qualms with sneaking into closed off or abandoned places for his research. he's not a very confrontational trainer, but his pokemon are very strong-willed and independent. he can put up a good fight if he has to.

ghiaccio - he spends a lot of time practicing strategies and helping his pokemon become stronger, but battling isn't his main concern. rather, ghiaccio likes the process of training and finds some comfort in the company of his pokemon. he cares a lot about them and is very passionate about their achievements. he and his pokemon are good at pushing their limits and finding new ways to work around problems. sorbet and gelato look after his pokemon if he's busy.

pesci - although he's only been battling for a few years, pesci had already developed a good, lifelong friendship with his pokemon before getting involved. he's very kind to them, and will call them back if he thinks they're in serious danger. he admires prosciutto's confidence and hopes that he can be a strong, cool trainer like him someday. he doubts himself a lot, but he is very intuitive and can evaluate battles very well. his pokemon are good support and his ideas are very helpful when teaming up with someone else.

One time I had Sayaka as a gym leader in an AU I had, but she was flying-type. I think I like her with psychic-types better

Sayaka had been drawn to psychic-types when she was little because of her own psychic powers. She got along with them better than any other type, and they loved her, too.

Her gym looks pretty normal from the outside, but inside has a lot of different passageways and decorations that are more than they appear, just like she’s more than she looks.

Her team is very strong, and they’re evenly focused on offense and defense. Sayaka isn’t opposed to using moves like Trick Room, either, to test how trainers would react to it.

A lot of people think her psychic powers aren’t actual psychic powers, but just intuition. She doesn’t exactly mind them thinking that, but she actually does have psychic powers.

She hopes to keep the integrity of her gym for years to come; she really does love being a gym leader. There wasn’t much else she wanted to do but inspire upcoming trainers.

Illya’s personality is about similar with her ffxiv canon verse. Shy, reserved, very sweet and gentle. But she’s considerably more cheerful in her pokemon au form and less emotionally volatile / depressed. She still does have some lingering emotional and mental health issues though, which will be covered later. 

She became a pokemon trainer primarily to explore the world and meet more pokemon. Dueling and beating others isn’t a real priority for her, though she still does it to earn money. 

While Illya bets pokemon dollars in normal battles with trainers she is unfamiliar with or in official tournaments, she doesn’t like gambling real money when battling with friends. Instead, she’d often suggest that the loser has to treat the winner to a meal.

Extremely good cook. You’ll never go hungry or be unsatisfied in the tummy if you go camping with her. Just don’t mention that you like spicy foods or she’ll almost always assume that you’d be able to handle the same level of spice as she does (pro-tip: you probably can’t). 

She smells like the most gorgeous mix of flowers - no thanks to her Comfey often playing with her hair and wrapping flowers around her. 

She takes pokemon welfare very seriously due to her upbringing and background. She thus has a habit of releasing pokemon she captured that she feels would either be happier out in the wild or are showing signs of stress in her care. That seldom happens though, due to how loving and caring she is towards all her pokemon - most of them end up becoming very attached and even protective of her.

In the same way, she never forces a pokemon to battle, evolve or do anything they don’t want to, even if they are strong. 

Illya knows a lot about pokemon care and the likes / dislikes / proper way to take care of different types of pokemon. Thus, she makes friends with pokemon a lot easier than she does humans.

The very definition of ‘gotta catch em all!’..... but only if the pokemon wants to be with her. She loves all pokemon, regardless of her personal tastes and will treat any pokemon she comes across with respect and care as long as they mean no harm to her. 

Knows basic first aid for both humans and pokemon. And much like in canon, her pain tolerance is incredibly high.

She’s very particular about money. Short-change her, and she’ll be very very cross. After all, less money means less treats she can buy for her pokemon. 

In general, she’s dainty and graceful... however she is a tad more clumsy in her pokemon au form compared to canon. 

Illya is the definition of gap moe: her sweet, cute and angelic demeanor causes a lot of people to underestimate her. When they challenge her to a battle, they are later shocked by just how ferocious and skilled she is as a trainer. 

Illya has become quite famous everywhere she travels - owing to her infectiously sweet, genuine and kind nature contrasting her ferocity and skill in pokemon battles. 

She’s extremely intelligent, observant and intuitive. She often stays on the defensive for long periods of time before she works out a strategy or her opponent pokemon’s weak points before going in for the (metaphorical) kill. Reckless trainers who don’t plan accordingly are the quickest to lose to her. 

She WILL order her pokemon to use stun debuffs on your pokemon (sleep, charm etc). And she won’t apologize for it.... until the battle is over. 

As stated, since Illya doesn’t especially care about dueling or becoming known as the best pokemon trainer, she often doesn’t see the need to challenge gym leaders to duels unless her friends urge her to, or if beating a gym leader is required for her to be able to advance in her journey. 

Illya’s an extremely good sport. She’ll congratulate you wholeheartedly if you defeat her, and will also wish you ‘good fight!’ if she beats you.

Gives the best hugs - especially to her pokemon. It’s not uncommon for people to see her giving group hugs to her pokemon after a particularly tough or difficult duel.  

Illya actually has a lot of pokemon, many captured but also many that she befriended and didn’t officially ‘catch’ until they decided to follow her home. She carries a fair bunch around with her, but also left a good number of her pokemon at home to live peacefull with her father. Of course, she only enters battle with 6 pokemon at maximum, as per usual pokemon battle rules. Relationships with her main pokemon team and other notable pokemon detailed below!

While Illya is generally not one to fuss too much about her appearance or fashion, she does care about making presentable. As such, she has a more colorful and varied self-made wardrobe in her pokemon au form than she does in canon. She does however, have a favorite outfit that has become trademark to her:

A loose cloak that is fastened either with a pin or buckle, and a long flowing scarf that sways freely in the wind as she walks. Underneath her cloak, she wears a knee-length dress with a sailor collar and elbow-length sleeves and black fingerless gloves. She often switches between various hair accessories such as flower corsages, ribbons and pins. However, her brightly colored hairbands are perhaps the most well remembered to those who meet her.

Some people speculate that her scarves were sewn from the fur that was shed from her Cinccino, hence how warm and fluffy that look. Her hip length pure white hair is wrapped against her neck when she wears her scarf. 

Illya’s trademark outfit in the pokemon au has two different versions: one that she wears in the spring and summer, while the other is worn in autumn and winter. 

Her spring / summer attire is lighter- both in color and fabric. Her baby pink cloak is fastened with a flower pin atop her pink and purple dress. Intricate flower patterns adorns her skirt, and she wears ankle-length socks and purple flats. She also wears flower earrings 

Her autumn / winter attire is made of thicker, warmer material - specifically her purple cloak which has a star print and is fastened with a buckle. Her dress is a darker blue in color, with constellation and star patterning around the edge of her skirt. There are rumors that the underside of her skirt shimmers like a starry night sky... but you’d have to be out of your mind to want to look up it to confirm said rumor. Instead of socks, she wears white tights and dark blue shoes. She also wears a star hairclip and earrings to go with her blue hairband. 

Illya does not like feeling cold, and thus usually travels around wearing her cloak and scarf... however, she will on occasion take them off indoors out of respect - such as when she’s eating a meal at somebody’s house as a guest. 

Illya was born to two loving parents - Cocona, a lalafellin woman who worked as a nurse at the nearest pokemon center to their home in a small, quaint town and Lachlan, an ex-pokemon trainer who retired shortly after having his name entered into the hall of fame, now settled down to live with his wife and daughter.

Cocona’s job as a nurse gave her a lot of knowledge on how to take care of pokemon, and together with her husband set up a daycare / nursery for both young and old pokemon alike, where they spent their days taking care of many different species of pokemom. 

Born under those circumstances, Illya was exposed to pokemon since a very young age, and began playing with and interacting with pokemon as a toddler. She also quickly learned to help around the daycare, learning more about each different type of pokemon and how to best take care of each of their needs. 

At age 9, her mother fell ill with a life-threatening disease, and in order to allow his wife to see the world before she passed on, Lachlan took Cocona away on a one year journey outside their hometown, leaving Illya alone with her aunt (Cocona’s younger sister) to take care of the pokemon daycare in their absence. Unfortunately, Illya’s aunt had a somewhat sour relationship with her sister, and was neglectful towards Illya, often leaving her unattended for extended periods of time.

Illya sought refuge and comfort from the pokemon she was tasked to take of, and for a long time, they were the only ones Illya talked to. She’d take the pokemon out flower picking, stargazing. She ate with them, slept with them and vowed to take care of them to the best of her abilities for the sake of her parents.

On a particularly terrible stormy night, the land surrounding her home became flooded with rainwater and seeped into her house. While Illya scrambled to keep the water out, her pokemon were thrown into a panic, and eventually one of the baby pidoves flew out and away from her home. Illya chased after the pidove into the woods despite the rain, the wind so strong that it caused her umbrella to be carried away into the wind. 

As she ran after the pidove, she slipped and tumbled down a hill, breaking her leg. Now injured, scared and alone in the middle of the forest, the young Illya cried for help, but her voice was drowned out by the sound of the pouring rain and thunder. With nothing but the darkness of the night staring back at her and fearing that a wild animal or hostile pokemon may be lurking about and attack her, Illya attempted to crawl her way back home, but the pain from attempting to stand up only causes her to collapse once more.

It felt like the entire world had abandoned her, and just as she heard a strange noise from the shadows and feared the worse, a mimikyu approaches her from the dark and sat by her, watching over her and shielding her with its appendages, as if to reassure her that it won’t let any harm come to her. 

She was found later in the morning by the people from the nearest town, who had gone over to her house to check on her only to find she wasn’t in, her pokemon panicking and gesturing towards the forest for the townspeople to look for her. The pidove was hold safely afterwards too, trembling as it took shelter in a tree. 

The incident left Illya well traumatized, and stemmed her own growing self-hatred and anxiety which would only grow worse as she grew to become a teenager. 

She doesn’t like talking much about what happened to her as a child, and she only ever mentions the incident to people she truly cares about and trusts. And if anybody were to ever upset her by being pushy and asking her about it when she doesn’t want to share, her Mimikyu would be the first to smack the offender in the head. 

Her main pokemon team underwent a few changes over the years, but for the most part now, it’s fixed and she rarely switches members of her party out for another pokemon unless she thinks it’s really necessary.

One of the first and oldest member of her current pokemon party. Illya and her Mimikyu are inseparable. 

Mimikyu had in truth been watching her since she was but a child, enviously admiring how happy her family and her pokemon in their daycare had been together. He had, on multiple occasions, attempted to show himself in order to be part of their family, but was always too cowardly to do so. He would always scurry away whenever Illya or her parents would approach, hiding in the shadows and only ever watching from a distance. He watched her even as she was left alone, and on the fateful night of that storm where Illya would find herself lost and injured in the forest, Mimikyu folllowed her.

Watching Illya cry alone in the rain, he felt a surge of protectiveness and compelled him to finally step out of the shadow to comfort and protect her through the night. Perhaps in that instance, he saw himself in Illya, someone who was scared, alone and just wanted to be loved. He could relate to Illya’s loneliness, and loved her for the way she would love and accept any pokemon, regardless of their appearance or strength.

Since that day, Mimikyu hasn’t left Illya’s side and is one of the most protective pokemon of her. 

Mimikyu can often be found sitting on Illya’s head when he’s out of his pokeball and traveling around with her. He will extend his appendage out to grab any food that she offers him, or even to swat away anyone who gets too close to Illya.

Compared to other Mimikyu, Illya’s Mimikyu isn’t at all aggressive towards Pikachu. It is however, very shy and embarrassed and will attempt to hide if it spots one. 

As Mimikyu only really cares about what Illya thinks, he won’t attack anyone who catches a glimpse of him under his disguise. But he will be very, very grouchy.

He gets along decently well with all her other pokemon, though it is sometimes jealous of how big and strong Corviknight is.

From a distance or as a shadow, Illya’s scarf often resembles the appendage Mimikyu extends out. Once, while the pair were out in the woods and Mimikyu was sitting on Illya’s head, it extended its appendage to grab hold of a treat Illya was offering it. A distant passerby who could not see clearly in the dark of the night mistook their silhouetted figure as being a monster - or a near and frightening mythical pokemon. The myth is still circulating to this day, and Illya has no idea that it had been caused by her and her Mimikyu.  

Mimikyu doesn’t like going inside his pokeball - not that Illya would force him to. He’d of course, prefer to spend time outside with Illya. He especially never leaves her sight while she sleeps, often snuggling up to her beneath the covers or otherwise making himself comfortable in her scarf that she set aside. 

He’s surprisingly, and scarily very physically strong - able to grab hold of other pokemon and even other people several hundred times larger than itself. He uses this to his advantage by grabbing people who get too close to Illya and shoving them away - and he’s not at all gentle about it. 

Comfey shares Illya’s love and passion for flowers and it’s not uncommon to see her Comfey drifting around her, weaving flowers into her hair as she walked. The scent of the flower crowns Comfey weaves makes people who wear them feel relaxed, so she often wraps Illya in flowers whenever the girl is feeling particularly stressed or uncomfortable. 

Comfey loves decorating hotel rooms and campsites with flowers she picks from the wild, and she seems to be particularly generous when it comes to giving out her flowers to others. Friendly, sweet and kind - it’s almost as if Comfey was an extension of Illya herself sometimes. 

Comfey is the resident healer of Illya’s pokemon roster, able to not only heal the ailments of humans but also the other pokemon. She is especially active when Illya is helping out at pokemon centers or giving first aid to others. When Illya is in pain, Comfey often goes into a tearful panic. 

Corviknight’s appearance almost always gives other people a heart attack. Nobody ever expects someone as small, cute and demure as Illya to have such an intimidating looking pokemon. But she does, and she is just as affectionate to him as she is with her other pokemon. Strangely, Corviknight seems to be very uncooperative to everyone except her.

Once lacking a flying type pokemon, Illya almost fell to her death after being pushed off a cliff. Corviknight caught her in midair and hid her under his wings after he landed, guarding her with a ferocious glare even as other humans attempted to check on her. Ever since, he’s ever a watchful guardian to her, glaring from behind her back even as she smiles sweetly at others. 

Corviknight also serves as Illya’s main mode of transportation when she isn’t able to walk herself. As Illya loves taking her time to explore on her own two feet, she tries to not overly rely on Corviknight... sometimes, it can’t be helped however - such as when she needs to cross large bodies of water.

Interestingly, Corviknight bears a striking resemblance in both his aesthetic and personality to a hyuran pokemon trainer of dark skin and black hair who has secret romantic feelings for Illya. 

Bellossom met Illya while the girl was traveling through a tropical area that has been haunted by rain clouds and dark skies for the past several days. Illya was first attracted to bellossom because of the flowers on her head, and had watched as the Bellossom danced and chanted, mesmerized when the rainclouds pulled apart and sunlight began to shine through.

The two quickly bonded, with Bellossom teaching Illya her sun summoning dance before finally, she decided to join Illya together on her journey.

She wasn’t exactly meant to be a part of Illya’s team, and for a while, she was but a mere travel companion. However, Illya noticed just how active and enthusiastic Bellossom was to battle - or perhaps she saw it as an opportunity to show off her dance to more people. Regardless, bellossom hence became a new member of Illya’s pokemon team replacing Cincinno. 

If it wasn’t obvious enough, Bellossom loves to dance. She is rarely ever seen not at least swaying to its own beat while she’s outside her pokeball, and she becomes very eager when other pokemon or humans show an interest in learning her dance. 

Evolved from an eevee that Illya had taken care of since she was a child, it alongside Mimikyu are the two most senior members of her current pokemon team and also the longest to have known her. 

Sylveon is a free spirit, much like he had been when he was still a baby eevee. He enjoys roaming about a fair bit, though he takes care to not stray too far from Illya. 

He’s very attached to Illya and much like other sylveons, understands his trainer’s emotional state well by wrapping his feelers around her hand while walking with her. Whenever Illya gets sad or upset, he often likes sitting in her lap, purring and nuzzling himself against her in an attempt to make her feel better. He also wraps his feelers around her in an attempt to soothe and calm her down whenever she cries.

Despite his adorable appearance, he’s actually very daring and fearless, never once backing down from a confrontation or fight with other pokemon even if they are multiple times his size or even if they are a type that holds an advantage against him. 

Illya’s Sylveon is also very attached to Alphinaud’s Espeon, nuzzling himself to espeon whenever Alphinaud has it out. 

Gardevoir was one of the latest pokemon to have joined Illya’s team. She is an extremely elegant, regal but also stoic member of the party. 

Like other Gardevoir, she is able to read the future - and it was through her prediction that she foresaw her meeting with Illya and prematurely approached her. She is also able to distort dimensions and create black holes, though she rarely ever does the latter. 

Much like Mimikyu and Corviknight, Gardevoir is extremely protective of Illya despite not having known her for as long as the others have and would not hesitate to expand her own psychic powers to her fullest if she feels like Illya may be in any sort of danger.

Though powerful, she doesn’t tend to like roaming about much and mostly stays within her pokeball unless Illya calls her out for food or battle. 

Gardevoir’s demeanor and headstrong personality reminds Illya a lot of her late mother, and perhaps there is some deeper reason for why Gardevoir herself feels such a strong need to protect Illya as if she were her own kin. 

Some of her pokemon are carried around with her as travel companions, only occasionally taking part in battles, while others are left at home to be cared for by her father.

TRAVEL COMPANIONS [to be updated as au is expanded on]

Vulpix: A male vulpix that Illya carries around and cuddles with during the winter or when she’s traveling through locations with colder climates. Out of all her pokemon who are not part of her main party of 6, vulpix is probably one of the most active and frequently called forth in battles that aren’t official tournament leagues or competitions. Illya also calls her vulpix out whenever fire is needed. He is brave and enthusiastic and hopes to one day evolve himself into Ninetales. 

Dragonair: A gentle male dragonair that Illya caught near a lake one day during clear skies. It had dragged her into the sky and allowed her to ride on his back, soaring high into the clouds before dipping back down towards the waters. However, Illya lost her balance and fell into the water. He still feels bad about it to this day. He likes to curl around her to sleep.

Cinccino: A playful female cinccino who evolved from one of Illya’s minccino that she has been caring for as a child. She was once an active member of Illya’s party, but now is more of a travel companion who rarely ever battles now. Some people believe that Illya used the fur shed from Cinccino’s scarf to sew her own trademark scarf that she’s seen traveling around with now. 

Rowlet: Though Illya gets along with many pokemon in general, birds in particular seem to be very fond of her. This male rowlet followed Illya as she was traveling through the woods and eventually became a part of travel party. He doesn’t see very many fights but he does love to cuddle and is very affectionate towards not just Illya but other pokemon and trainers.

Alcremie: A shy female Alcremie who offers sweets to new friends she meets. Illya often has reservations about eating the cream and berries secreted from her, but after being assured that it doesn’t at all hurt her Alcremie and that it’s offering of sweets is a sign of affection, Illya has started learning to indulge more in sweet foods more and more. Illya doesn’t have the heart to tell Alcremie she prefers spicy food, though. 

Trevenant: A female trevenant that attacked a woodcutter that Illya saved while traversing through the forest. Convinced at first that Illya intended on harming the forest, it proceeded to trap her in a cage of trees until she was finally convinced to release Illya after witnessing the way Illya refused to let her vulpix burn the trees down just to escape. She follows Illya around and holds a lot of respect for the way Illya cared for nature and the environment. 

Hatterene: A reclusive Hatterene Illya met during her travel. She once hated Illya, chasing her by emiting a strong psychic aura much like she does with other strangers. Upon sensing Illya’s lack of hostility and own gentle soul however, she eventually calmed down enough to allow Illya to approach. She is very moody and temperamental.

NOTABLE POKEMONS AT HOME [not including pokemon that belong to Lachlan or pokemon that belong to other people being taken care of]. List is NOT exhaustive!

Cleffa: A female cleffa born from Cocona’s retired Clefairy. As Cocona passed away shortly before cleffa was hatched, Illya became her owner / trainer instead. Though cleffa wishes to someday be a part of Illya’s team, grow stronger and evolve herself, Illya hasn’t quite allowed herself to let go of her mother’s death, and hence prefers to keep cleffa safe at home. It’s one of the rare instances where Illya has explicitly gone against a pokemon’s wishes, even if out of a genuine love and protectiveness of it.

Musharna: A female Musharna that eats the nightmares of Lachlan and any guests who come to stay over at their house. She sleeps a lot and frankly cannot care any less about battling. 

Chimecho: A male Chimecho that Illya caught and took along with her on her journey for a while, before leaving him at home with Lachlan. He likes hanging himself to the roof of the house and swinging in the breeze. Not hearing chimecho’s wind chimes tells Lachlan and Illya that something is wrong. 

Azurill: A male baby Azurill that Illya rescued. He is very timid and lacks a lot of confidence. He wants to get better at doing battle, but still has a lot of training to do before it can get to that point. 

Beedrill: A male beedrill that was evolved from a weedle - the very first pokemon Illya ever caught in the wild on her own. She’s trained him personally as she grew up, and he saw many of her clumsy behavior and less experienced days. He’s sort of retired now, spending his days keeping the more rowdy pokemon in the daycare in check.

If pokemon au illya were to have a theme / ost track, it’d be this lovely re-orchestrated track of the Lacunosa Town Theme! It’s soft, peaceful and has a touch of melancholy which suits her perfectly. This, this and this remix also fits her and may double as her battle theme?

Legendaries / Mythicals??

I didn’t include any legendaries or mythical pokemons into her roster because lore regarding those are that they’re very very rare BUT if Illya were allowed to have a legendary and a mythical pokemon, she’d probably own a Cresselia and a Celebi! 

Cresselia, the Lunar Pokémon. Shiny particles are released from its wings like a veil. It is said to represent the crescent moon. On nights around the quarter moon, the aurora from its tail extends and undulates beautifully.

Celebi, the Time Travel Pokémon. This Pokémon wanders across time. Grass and trees flourish in the forests in which it has appeared. When Celebi disappears deep in a forest, it is said to leave behind an egg it brought from the future.

Shout out to Diancie, who is a close second choice solely based on the fact it’s design looks like what Illya would be if she herself were a pokemon.

“Babe, when was the last time you’ve gotten sleep?” Hop jolted in his chair at Sword’s concerned voice. He sheepishly turned around in his chair, reaching up to scratch at his whiskered cheeks. “Heh,,,hey hon..I er…” He faltered under his wife’s gaze, already knowing it was pointless to hide the truth from her. She always had amazing intuition; it was how she kept up her champion title all these years.

Said champion narrowed her brown eyes wearily at her husband, taking in his appearance. Everything about him looked disheveled. His eyes were lined with sleepless shadows, and his indigo hair stuck out in many directions. His golden eyes were drooping, rivaling the exhausted slump in his shoulders. He caught her observing look, and gave what he hoped to be a confident smile, only for it to come out weary. “I guess I’ve been working a bit excessively...it’s just with the new trainers coming soon I really want to give them the most up to date pokedex! With all the new discoveries around Galar..” he trailed off, a yawn cutting through his ramblings.

Sword smiled softly, understanding along her features. She admired her husband's determination and incredible work ethic. That being said, however…”Hop, I love you, and I understand where you’re coming from. But you need to rest.” She walked over to the Pokemon professor, leaning down and wrapping her arms around his shoulders. “Besides, I miss you lying beside me. I want to be able to cuddle with my man from time to time. Boltund is a sweetie, but I want to rest my head against a human chest, not just a furry one.” Her grin turned mischievous as she let her hands wander downward, running against the soft fabric of his button down. Immediately, Hop tensed, sleepy giggles already bubbling to the surface of his lips. 

“Swohohohohoohrd! Wahahahait!” Hop giggled, his cheeks warming up a soft pink as he tiredly squirmed in Sword’s arms. He didn’t have the energy to fight back, so all he could do was laugh. “Ihihihihit tihihihihihiickles!” He cried, curling up on himself when Swords fingers began to gently trace his ribs. “That’s the point, Hop!” Sword teased, her smile infectious as she kept up her gentle tickles. “Are you going to come to bed now?” She asked.

“Buhuhuhuhut Swohohohohord! Thehehehhe trahahhahahhainehehehrs!” Hop got out, his giggles coming out more frequently when she began to nuzzle his neck and shoulders gently. “They’ll understand, babe. You need sleep to be at your very best for them. Now come on, let’s go to bed.”

After another minute of soft tickles, Hop finally surrendered. “Ohhohoohkay! Ohoohokay! Ihhihihiihhill gohohoho tohohoho bed!” Hop squealed, his lips in a permanent smile as completely gave up fighting his wife. Sword smiled, satisfied. She slowed down her tickling fingers until they rested around her husband's waist, raising and falling with each of his breaths. “Tired yet?” She asked gently, resting her head in the crook of his neck as he let out a few more breathy giggles, a yawn once again breaking through.

As they made their way home in the bright moonlight, Hop gave Sword’s hand a gentle squeeze. He grinned to himself when she squeezed back.

It’s Friday! How are you and I’m good. Today I have to go to my grandma’s house which is pretty far away because she had surgery on her feet so I have to go and tend to her for she can’t walk right now. Hey, sorry for the late reply. College currently has me by the balls, been busy with Kinktober, and may be falling ill with the flu , so I haven't really been on much.

Hope your grandmother is doing well. May she heal fast.

They really didn't know they would become parents until the unexpected happens while they're at work. There's suddenly a baby in their arms and now they're asking each other what the hell are they suppose to do now. Their first intuition is to give up their newly born son, but they end up keeping him and raising him in the end. Their Pokemon were so confused at first when they first laid eyes on Nori, their thoughts going 'Why do our trainers have a small human that looks like them? Where did small human come from? How did small human get here?' to 'Must protect small human? Small friend???' in just a few minutes.

Usually they would carry Nori around with them in one of those baby carrier wraps while they're working or doing any household chore. Their Pokemon only get to babysit and watch over Nori when both are very busy with something that requires all their attention. Nori does get very excited when he sees that his parents' Pokemon will be watching over him, especially if Haxorus is there (Nori becomes a huge fan of the Haxorus family line and ends up with a shiny Axew as his starter.)

Ecruteak City.. a city rich with history: for a trainer like Shuichi, who always loved to learn more about the locations and Pokemon he sees on the way, he naturally loves this city, and was excited to see it as he makes his way there.

Along his path, he saw the gym leader training with a rock. Seeing who it was-".....!" His eyes widen. He was for sure that's....! ("That's the Gym Leader of Ecruteak City....!") But because he was so distracted in his amazement, Shuichi didn't realize how dangerously close he was to the flying debris of the rock.

"?!" By the time he was alert, he was going to be too late to dodge the rocks completely, and definitely get hurt... that is until Morty shoved him out of the way in time. "Ah-!!" He catches his balance, thankfully avoiding getting pelt by the rocks.. but seeing Morty got injured, instead, makes his face pale.

"...?! O...Oh no...!!!" He instantly rushes closer to him in a panic. Despite him being clearly hurt, he was still making sure if Shuichi was okay, first: he felt so bad... "Th... Thank you very much for saving me.. I... I'm okay, you pushes me out of the way on time... But what about you, are you okay?! I-I'm so sorry!! All because I wasn't paying attention...!" Taking his backpack off, he opens it to immediately start looking for any kind of cloth.

"H-Hang on, I might have something in here you can wipe your face with...!!"

He's panting softly as he stares at the rubble of the rock that he had destroyed during training. Morty wasn't dumb. He was a gym leader who was highly sought after for his clairvoyant abilities and a well studied scholar on the history of the legendary pokemon of his city.... however, he didn't account for the trainer that had come so close to where he was training with Drifloon and the sharp rocks heading right their way. Fortunately, he was able to get them out of the way but not without getting hit himself.

Holding his head where the shards of rock had pierced him, he looked over to the trainer as he felt the blood drip down his face and into his hand. How troublesome... but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed, and right now, there was someone else that might be hurt by all of this.

"That was a close call. You're not hurt, are you?"

So I got into a conversation with a bunch of other Voltron fans and we came up with pokemon for Team Voltron, Team Sincline, Zarkon, Haggar, and the original paladins. Kept it to two per person for sanity’s sake.

Lance: Primarina & Milotic (shiny)

Both feebas and popplio got kinda dumped on (feebas in-universe, popplio before their other evolutions were revealed) and the shiny milotic, I will not lie, is inspired straight from a comic that I thought did a good job of capturing Lance as a person. One of my friends aired the idea of Lance being involved in pokemon contests.

You bet your butt they’re the best-groomed pokes you have ever laid your eyes on. Knock knock the gorgeous squad has arrived.

(Honorable mention: a gyrados that Lance evolved himself, because he’s that kinda supportive person who’d stick it out with a magikarp)

Keith: Talonflame & Absol

Absol would probably be his signature pokemon even if it’s not his “type”- it’s a prophet able to predict danger, but also described as reclusive and misunderstood since it wants to protect people but is often blamed for misfortune- much like Keith internalizes a lot of his isolation as being his own fault.

Talonflame is light, portable, and can explore wide open places scouting around, suitable for Keith’s love of the outdoors. Also, giving Keith a part flying type reflects a bit of his relationship with Shiro, the Sky Paladin- maybe that Fletchling was a gift?

Shiro: Skarmory & Mightyena

As both the Paladin of the Sky and someone who is marked in part by his incredible determination and resilience in the face of adversity, Skarmory’s steel/flying type makes perfect sense, as well as being a real cool pokemon for a real cool guy.

Mightyena fits with his colors, but more with his ideals, as a pack hunter with a powerful sense of loyalty- Shiro is someone very conscious and empathetic to the team. And pairing Shiro with a dark type (especially one that in the gen it was introduced, was the staple of the villain teams) reflects the other side of his determination- that he isn’t afraid to act in the guise of a “bad guy” to protect said team. He also tends to try and see the good in shady-seeming allies, like his sincerity towards Rolo and Ulaz- and even a bit of his connection with Keith.

Pidge: Rotom & Phantump

Rotom is a shoe-in given Pidge’s technological focus, especially if we’re assuming they’d have a device like the Rotomdex that lets them communicate with Pidge- a level of connection with technology and pokemon alike that’s not always common or intuitive.

Phantump, out of all of the potential grass types, stuck out to me because Phantumps are the spirits of lost children- and while Pidge’s family was taken from her more than she was from them, I think it’s something she’d relate to as a lost child herself, feeling a little lonely and bereft. Phantump’s fearsome evolution also suggests towards how Pidge is growing up and turning very dangerous to cross- she’s not going to let people just walk all over her family. So- lonely child, turning fearsome guardian of the forest. “Haxus is dead and you’re next.”

(Honorable mention: Porygon because Pidge is an enthusiast of classic sixteen-bit graphics after all)

Hunk: Aggron & Bastiodon

Certain ‘dex entries describe Aggron as a creature that landscapes its territory by planting trees, suggesting a nurturing side to what is also a highly dangerous steel-coated dinosaur. 

That combined with Bastiodon being a fossil pokemon suggesting Hunk would have had to have nursed it back to life, I think both do a good job reflecting both Hunk’s formidable combat capabilities and the warm, nurturing way he relates to his allies. He’s a stone wall that you’re not going to shove around very easily. I’d imagine both of his pokemon as very gentle-tempered creatures, much like Hunk himself, but not to be crossed.

Allura: Audino & Xerneas

When Allura’s powers seem overwhelmingly geared to fortify and renew, it stands to reason she seems both divinely inspired and ludicrously powerful- hence pairing her with the life-focused legendary Xerneas.

Audino is a healer, and capable of mega-evolution- like Allura, a creature more concerned with preservation but utterly unafraid to get in there and take some names. 

Coran: Kricketune & Probopass

Mustache, he’s full of sass, his team can still kick your ass.

No, really, Probopass’s rock/steel typing is a nice nod to Coran’s resilience of spirit and his technical stripes and giving him a couple of goofy-looking yet still genuinely strong pokemon is right up Coran’s alley.

Zarkon: Hydregion & Tyranitar

Hydregion is a massive, fearsome, and highly aggressive dragon type. The shape of its wings has a passing resemblance to the wing spokes on Zarkon’s armor. It also evolves from the well-meaning-if-bitey Deino, getting increasingly dangerous through its second and then final evolution- which nicely reflects how Zarkon was a prickly elitist to start but pretty much got worse and worse. 

It and Tyranitar are both pseudo-legendaries and Tyranitar can mega-evolve, reflecting nicely that Zarkon is both a very scary person to cross and that he’s probably not really the type for a lot of real dedicated pokemon strategy as much as brutalizing would-be enemies with devastating force.

Haggar: Nihilego & Darkrai

Yveltal is not necessarily part of her actual fighting team, but she totally uses it as part of the Komar- which would possibly imply in this AU, Yveltal is rescued and taken into custody by the Blade of Marmora.

As far as the two she does use- while Haggar’s perfectly capable of leveling people in direct combat, she much prefers to fight like a living nightmare. Nihilego being able to control others, as well as its extradimensional nature as an Ultra Beast nicely reflect Haggar’s history as a scientist who researched other realities and was fascinated by the rift creature- heck, in this AU Nihilego may be one of the rift creatures that stuck around.

And Darkrai is a literal master of nightmares. Haggar’s propensity to root around in and manipulate others by using fear and deception is nicely represented here.

Lotor: Sylveon (shiny) & Silvally

Lotor’s keen sense of what it means to inspire true loyalty means he’d pick his team out of creatures he’d have a very intimate bond with- so he has two pokemon that only evolve with high friendship. That Silvally’s type-switching ability is massively effective with the sort of study-opponent-and-then-hit-them-precisely-where-it-hurts strategy Lotor uses would probably just be icing on the cake.

And, yeah, Silvally (or rather, Type:Null) totally exists in the first place in this AU because thanks, Haggar.

Sylveon being a pure fairy type, would have obvious type advantages to both Zarkon’s hydregion and Haggar’s darkrai- but also, as an empathetic pokemon highly loyal to its trainer, I imagine it’s done a lot to help him keep his head together. And its not-so-kindly Sun and Moon pokedex entries would mean that, as a clever and deceptive predator, it could more than pull its weight as his ally.

Narti: Liepard & Hypno

Narti’s manipulation appears to read much more like sleepwalking than nightmares- the host’s amnesia and trancelike calm, for example, so using a Hypno as her pokemon works just fine.

You might wonder how exactly Kova feels about the liepard, to which, I reply: Kova is the Liepard. In this AU, Narti’s connection with Kova would probably extend to her entire team, allowing her to direct and coordinate with her pokemon instantaneously.

Ezor: Kecleon & Salazzle

Kecleon being able to pull a disappearing act itself means that she could carry at least half of her team covertly with her while sneaking around, and Salazzle, being a poison type, also lends well to Ezor’s inclinations as an assassin-like ambush fighter.

Also, with Ezor being pretty reptilian herself, I can see her favoring similar pokemon.

Zethrid: Incineroar & Pangoro

This started purely because I saw multiple people say that Keith should have a Litten because fiery darkness cat, in complete ignorance of the fact that Litten grows up to be a wrestler tiger, which is the exact opposite of a thing Keith would be cool with. Zethrid, though.

She probably trains her pokemon by personally sparring against them.

Acxa: Gallade & Houndoom

Acxa’s knightly sense of honor and her fierce loyalty reflect well in both Gallade and Houndoom, given the latter’s a pack hunter. Also given her various meaningful clashes with Keith, her Houndoom could probably meet his Absol blow for blow.

Both her pokemon, like Acxa herself, are light on their feet and agile attackers. 

Alfor: Solgaleo & Pyroar

You were probably expecting to see Solgaleo a lot higher on this list, but I wanted to give Allura and Haggar opposing legendaries and someone rightfully pointed out Lunaala doesn’t deserve that.

Also, as the original paladin of the Red Lion, and the original architect of Voltron, he’s the Fiery Lions guy.

Blaytz: Garchomp & Mantine

I won’t lie to you this is 99% because Blaytz is a shark-manta man, but, he’d be pretty limited to water types since he appears to hail from an oceanic planet himself. 

I imagine him cruising around on Mantine’s back in more peaceful times.

Trigel: Tsarina & Cradily

Unlike Hunk, I imagine Trigel having a fossil pokemon because she was actually alive at the same time they were.

Tsarina is mostly there because as little as we saw of Trigel, it definitely seems like she had an edge to her and could veer harsh with her joking around.

Gyrgan: Chesnaught & Camerupt

Big, powerful tanks- a fighting type considering Gyrgan was seemingly an unarmed brawler when we see him and the other original paladins rescuing Alfor, and Camerupt because of the very camel-like beasts of burden we see in our brief glimpse of Rygnirath.

i made a similar post for the hyung line a few days ago, and it got some really good responses from everyone! so without further ado, here is the maknae line version!!

THE MAKNAE LINE GYM LEADERS:

JIMIN - psychic type specialist

“....”

“Oh, I know that look. You’re expecting me to be a water type gym leader, huh?”

tbh, no one could blame you for thinking he was a water type specialist because his gym was pretty much submerged underwater--literally

his core value, determination, was pretty much evident from the get-go. without the use of any diving apparatus, you had to come up for air every so often in order to pass through his gym in order to get to his room

“Don’t worry!! No one has drowned yet... I think.”

what is up with all the gyms in this region?? why is it like all the gym leaders were trying to kill you?

also, another pressing question: what if you can’t--

“You can’t swim? Oh, me too! The most I can do is a doggy paddle, and I’m not even that good...” Jimin laughed, his eyes squinting adorably

wait you didn’t even say that question out loud. was he--?

“Am I psychic? Nope! I just have really good intuition. Look, try to think something really weird and random. I promise I won’t be able to tell.”

ok. you start mentally saying to yourself: ‘holy shit you’re really fucking hot and cute, your hands are really small and i want to hold them and i would really love it if you could maybe stick them up my--’

“See? I have no idea what you’re thinking!”

(when you aren’t looking though, you don’t notice the keen smirk on his face HE HE HE)

“Anyway, about the drowning thing: don’t worry! My slowking and I will save you if you ever start looking like you’re having some trouble.”

getting saved by a hot gym leader who had killer abs to boot? maybe you should pretend to drown just so you could maybe see him in action well now you have nothing to worry about

as you go through his gym with some difficulty due to your lack of swimming skills, you noticed from the corner of your eye how jimin was indeed swimming alongside you, except he wasn’t exactly swimming

“Did I forget to tell you? You could use your psychic type pokemon to create a bubble of air around you to make it easier. Haha, how silly of me to forget” he told you this telepathically, a mischievous grin on his face

(you promptly rise up to catch your breath, slap him on his firm chest in annoyance, and summon your psychic type pokemon to help you complete his hellish gym)

now that you have the help of your psychic pokemon to aid you, you reach his gym leader room quickly

the room had less water and appeared more normal in comparison to the rest of his gym, with a simple dust battleground for the battle and a chair for where jimin was supposed to sit

except the chair wasn’t empty like it should have been

“HI JIMINIE I CAME TO VISIT!”

lo and behold, the neighboring gym leader, kim taehyung, had come to visit (if you haven’t pieced it together, he was the one sitting on jimin’s chair)

“How many times have I told you not to visit during a challenge?”

the pout on taehyung’s face was as fake as the baby voice he used: “but jiminieeeee i missed you :<”

“Omg--i’m so sorry, my darling. Are you fine with him watching us battle?”

not really sure what the fuck was going on, you let him do as he pleased

when you acquiesce to his ridiculousness, taehyung points you a saucy wink, which pretty much short circuits your brain and breaks your concentration

so all in all, you could definitely blame your defeat to taehyung’s way too intense staring and overzealous hooting

after the battle, jimin comes over to you and pats you on the shoulder, half-apologetic for his weird friend

“I’m so sorry about him, but I suppose this is a way for you to get used to him because you will have to defeat him eventually. Come back next time and i’ll make sure he doesn’t interrupt again.”

(taehyung, does in fact, visit each time you rechallenge jimin)

(not that you were disappointed to lose more times than you can count. if it meant seeing jimin and his beautiful thighs each time, then honestly you should be thanking taehyung)

TAEHYUNG - grass type specialist

the moment you finally defeat jimin, taehyung jumps out from his seat and literally tackles you to the ground

“FINALLY! NOW IT’S MY TURN MY TURN~”

jimin barely manages to pull you from under taehyung’s bearhug and save you from permanent rib damage

taehyung, however, slaps jimin’s small hands away and carries you easily over his shoulder (for someone so skinny, you were surprised by his strength)

“Hey! You’re done playing with her, so now it’s my turn. Shoo, shoo!”

luckily, taehyung’s city was pretty much adjacent to jimin’s, so the travel time wasn’t a problem

unluckily, taehyung had decided that the best mode of transport was over his shoulder, while he rode on his FUCKING LUDICOLO

“HAHA, ISN’T THIS FUN?” he hollered, while you hung onto his shoulders for dear life

(Note: Ludicolos don’t walk from place to place; they dance from place to place. just try to imagine your arrangement as you travelled from jimin’s town to taehyung’s)

one very chaotic commute later, you finally arrive at taehyung’s... gym?

“WELCOME TO MY GYM! You must be wondering why it looks like an petting zoo... because it is a petting zoo!!”

before he can even explain what the actual fuck is going on, a shiny herdier comes charging at you

before you can get hurt, taehyungs moves to intercept the overexcited dog, letting the herdier push him to the ground and lick his handsome face

“HAHA oh by the way, this is soonshim! say hi to my new challenger, soonshim~”

after taehyung finished playing with soonshim (read: 30 minutes), he finally managed to explain the rules of his gym

“Oh, right. Rules. Ew. Well, I don’t really have a “challenge” per se. You can actually challenge me right now.”

wait. really?

a small girl (who you eventually learn is taehyung’s younger sister) kicks him in the leg, a stern glare on her young face

“Oh shi--oh hello my baby sister. Thanks for reminding me.”

so it turns out, there is a rule to defeating taehyung’s gym. except it’s kind of...

“Yep! All you have to do is pet EVERY SINGLE POKEMON ON MY PETTING FARM! Yup! in short, I just want you to have fun and go nuts!”

???? ok????? how hard can it be?

(it was, in fact, harder than you thought. it seemed like every cat pokemon on the farm had an aversion to your presence, and would proceed to scratch you if you even looked in their direction)

(good thing taehyung was good at first-aid, and he even kissed all your injuries after he patched them up. “Kisses make the boo-boos go away!!” he said without a hint of embarrassment, whereas you were as red as a voltorb)

turns out, it takes almost the whole day just to pet all the pokemon, so you decide to come back tomorrow to challenge him

“What? You’re going to camp out? NO NO NO! I cannot allow that! C’mon, you’re sleeping with me!”

(you try to decline his invitation, but taehyung just puts on you his shoulder and brings you to his home regardless)

(get your head out of the gutter! nothing like what you’re imagining happened! ! ! although, you do get snuggled half to death by taehyung, so you couldn’t really even enjoy the experience to the fullest)

the next day, you finally get to challenge him and just like how his happy-go-lucky personality suggested, the battle was surprisingly relaxed and fun

you find you and your partner pokemon laughing the entire way through the battle, watching how taehyung would pull funny faces and make his pokemon fall over like from those slapstick comedies

unlike your other previous challenges, this one was surprisingly easy

“Yeaaaah, i’m not really much of a battler. i don’t really get serious unless there’s something worth fighting for, you know? All that matters is that you and your partner had fun. Did you?”

of course you did. so much so, you were kind of disappointed that you wouldn’t see him again after this. 

in order to prolong your stay, you asked him what he was like when he actually battled seriously, just to see how well you would match up to his full strength

“really? you want me to go all out? well, alrighty! might as well; i haven’t stretched my muscles in a while!”

since your team was barely hurt from his “play” battle, you decide to just continue where you left off

he, on the other hand, sends out an entirely new team. and they. were. fucking. MONSTERS (serperior, abomasnow, sceptile, ferrothorn)

you get knocked out with one move. each time.

(suffice to say, you’re glad he went easy on you. you just hope you don’t have to challenge him in the future--or worse--get on his bad side)

((hint: he ends up moving up the ranks and joins the elite four! so that hope of yours is sadly demolished the moment you meet his boxy grin in the pokemon league))

JUNGKOOK - fighting type specialist

holy fuck jimin who? muscles who???!

you first meet jungkook outside of his gym in a real-life gym (you know, where people work out and stuff)

you had entered his pokemon gym looking for him but the man at the front told you he was working out

at first, you thought he was training alongside his pokemon, as you had heard it helped increase coordination between trainer and partner in battle

but when you see him working out by himself, you can’t help but let your jaw drop

him: sleeveless tank, sweat dripping down his face, tight basketball shorts framing his shapely a**

you: blushing like the hot mess that you are

at first, he doesn’t even notice your presence and continues at a monster’s pace; doing two pull-ups in under a three seconds

after staring at him work out for ten minutes or so, he finally realizes you are there just creepily watching him and he just. drops.

like, he falls to the ground

“Oh fuuuu--” he groans, cradling his face in what you assume was pain

(he was, in fact, hiding his face in embarrassment because h o l y fuck a cute girl just watched him sweat like a pig and he looks so gross and he’s so embarrassed ahhhh)

you quickly approach him, grasping his hand to help him up

(he still wasn’t looking you in the eye, unable to even stutter a proper “t-thanks” after you ask him if he was ok)

confused by his weird demeanor, you instead ask him if he was the gym leader of this city (even though you were pretty sure he was) and he meekly replies yes before clearing his throat and LEAVING WITHOUT EVEN SAYING GOODBYE??

(for someone who looked like he was capable of breaking you like a toothpick, he was really fucking shy)

you assume he went back to his own gym to await for your challenge, so you head back there to chase after him

(he hadn’t even left a minute before you did, but you found no trace of him. how fucking fast did he run to escape from you???)

anyway, you arrive at the gym

unlike the previous gyms where the leaders themselves explained the rules, the man at the reception was the one who explained to you

“I’m so terribly sorry, Jungkookie is kind of... new at this. He isn’t used to challengers yet so I’ll explain the rules to you in his stead.”

you learn that Jungkook had inherited the gym from his older brother, who had decided to travel the world to pursue his real passion: art

you also learn that Jungkook never really wanted to become the leader of this gym, but as he was naturally adept at battles, he was the first choice as the new replacement anyway

as compared to the other gyms you’ve faced, his layout was pretty simple but it was down to the point. you were faced with three doorways with their own challenges. each challenge was a bit unusual in its own way; some challenges required you to hold in water for longer than a minute while being tickled, while another required you to carry three people under a limbo stick in under 3 minutes.

should you fail to do the challenge, you were faced with a trainer whom you would have to battle

(you later learn that jungkook had made up these challenges because he excelled at these activities. you decide not to question what he does for his past time)

after several unusual and surprisingly difficult challenges after, you finally arrive in jungkook’s room

to your disappointment, he was no longer sweaty from his work out. instead, he was freshly showered, his hair styled neatly like a coconut

“Uh. Hey. Sorry about a while ago, you caught me by surprise. As you may know, I’m Jungkook, the leader of this gym. I use fighting types. Uh. Yeah. Let’s start?”

after the initial awkward introduction, the battle quickly commences

despite his awkwardness in social situations, he was definitely not awkward at battle.

he moved in sync with his pokemon, moving almost like his pokemon as he commanded them to attack

he was as fast as his pokemon; you could barely land a hit at how quick his pokemon were moving

and when you actually did land a hit, the attack would bounce off of them, as if they were made of steel

he grinned at your dumbfounded face, an almost cocky smirk gracing his face “i learned those skills from yoongi hyung. i heard you were good, but i guess not good enough”

well that. got you mad. FUCK HIM! ! !

(in the end, you barely manage to win out of pure spite. he stares almost confusedly as his last pokemon falls to the ground, unsure of what “defeat” really means)

(in the back of his mind, he thinks its because he was too entranced by your cuteness. he thinks its just luck on your side, but he grudgingly agrees that you were actually pretty good.)

“Ok fine. you win. i guess my cockiness got the best of me. here,” he said, once again not looking you in the eye as he hands you your seventh gym badge (shykook comes back after the battle, which you honestly weren’t too mad about. cockykook was hot, but shykook was HELLA cute)

after sending him your thanks, you are about to turn to leave before he catches you by the shoulder. you look up at him to see a blush coating his face

“uh, i’m not supposed to do this as an official gym leader and stuff, but I just wanted to ask... ummm”

you waited patiently for him to finish, as he was too busy stuttering and blushing to completely finish his sentence

“ummmmwouldyoumindmeetingupwithmebeforeyouheadout?totrain?”

you barely manage to catch his words but you hear the last part clearly

“of course. i could always use the tips from you. after all, who better than to teach me than the strongest gym leader i have faced?”

at your compliment, his signature bunny grin appears, and it’s the first time since the battle finished that he finally made eye contact with you

“it’s my pleasure”
