i've been struck by inspiration
here's my ranking of twisted wonderland students by how likely i'd be to let them behind the wheel of a car. this is gonna be a long one bc i'm including explanations of course. (and i know that in-game it's rare to be able to drive, we're ignoring that and pretending it's common to drive around)
Tumblr media
1. Leona: canonically, he can drive and drive well. i feel like this was an easy one. but it makes sense!
2. Vil: he just has so many random skills that i feel like driving would be no problem at all. honestly, there's not much that i think vil CAN'T do
3. Trey: everything about him screams Responsible Driver. he would definitely play chauffeur for heartslabyul whenever they need to go somewhere. AND he'd have snacks in the glove compartment. 10/10 ride
4. Jamil: he can absolutely drive well - near perfect i'd argue. what's the alternative? let KALIM drive? get real. it's his duty to get where he needs to go safely
5. Jack: the self-discipline that this boy possesses is unrivaled. he would be locked in behind the wheel. he spent so long becoming the best driver he can be and by god, he's gonna prove it
6. Deuce: LISTEN TO ME, LISTEN! he's really good on that blastcycle which is more dangerous and difficult (said as a former bike/atv guy). a car is nothing to him. plus he's on his Honor Student streak so he's trying his best. my only worry is speed. slow it down, friend
7. Epel: similar to deuce. farm kids learn to drive really early in their lives. HOWEVER... driving safely?? hmmmm... his biggest flaws are going too fast and whipping around curves when no one else is on the road
8. Riddle: he would definitely follow all the road rules. to the letter. every trip would take an extra 30 minutes to an hour. no music, windows up, silence. he won't even let YOU be on your phone lest he become distracted. also ROAD RAGE. interstate driving would get very scary
9. Ortho: fuck it, let the robot give it a shot
10. Azul: i feel like once he figured out the mechanics, he would be fine on the road. however, if he got pulled over he would definitely argue with the cop and get us both arrested. so... i'm gonna pass
11. Jade: yes, we're getting where we need to go. but... nefariously. and there's something in the trunk. i feel like he'd also randomly go "oops" just to freak out his passengers. "what do you mean OOPS?" "don't worry about it :)"
12. Ruggie: there's a wildness to my boy that drove his ranking down. he would definitely drive a jeep with the doors off. music blasting, wind whipping around everywhere. it would be a fairly safe drive but not a particularly enjoyable one. also i would fall out
13. Silver: i don't know, i feel like he would be chill. i put him low bc briar valley doesn't have cars so his driving education would be quite scarce and he'd be a new driver. but he could get the job done. probably
14. Sebek: similar to silver but he needs to relax. malleus is fine, we're just going to walmart
15. Ace: he just gives off the vibe of "16-year-old kid in the car his dad bought for him." never lets anyone merge, hits curbs, can never figure out the speed limit, etc, etc. even worse if deuce is in the car! "ace, watch out for the mailbox!" "don't tell me what to- *BANG*"
16. Cater: gay people can't drive
17. Rook: distracted driver. god forbid there's wildlife around, he would turn 180 in his seat to look at it. this Oh Shit Handle is getting some use. also i KNOW his car would be shit. i don't care that his family is rich, he's driving a 2003 hyundai sonata
18. Floyd: LISTEN! there's a 50/50 shot that everything goes perfectly fine. like as long as he's in a good mood, he can get the job done. you definitely just have to check in before you buckle up. get ready to tuck and roll
19. Malleus: what is a car?
20. Idia: there's so much anxiety there i feel like one thing would go slightly left and he'd almost pass out. he's white-knuckling the wheel, praying that no one else is on the road. it's alright buddy, you can be a passenger princess
21. Kalim: No.
22. Grim + Yuu: okay, for this one it's a joint effort. yuu at the wheel and grim on the pedals. there's so much chaos and screaming. four-way stops don't exist. yellow lights are green and red lights are yellow. the horn has not stopped honking since the engine started. this is an emergency situation ONLY. like someone is bleeding out in the backseat and no one is answering their phones
23. Lilia: absolutely not. i will walk

Your Heart Pulling Against Mine - Pt 8
David 8 x reader Words: 1570 Crossposted on Ao3 Chapter 7 is here
Tumblr media
Running towards the exit, you noticed that the van had already taken off, leaving you all stranded with only the ATVs in the open field. Still carrying the bag with Dr. Shaw, you quickly jumped onto the backseat with her, clinging tightly to the bars. As the ATV sped forward, gigantic clouds of dust churned up by the storm closed in dangerously fast, mingling with dark pebbles being hurled through the air. “Go faster!” Shaw cried out to Holloway, who was driving, while you found yourself torn between squeezing your eyes shut and staring at the swirling cloud of death eager to swallow you up.
You weren’t sure how Holloway managed to pick up so much speed, but soon you were nearly overtaking the van, a feat that might have been impressive if not for the ATV suddenly jolting over some rubble. The impact sent the bag flying from both Shaw’s and your grasp - and Shaw herself, as the backseat wasn’t designed for two passengers.
Acting on instinct, fear forgotten for a moment, you sprang into action and ran toward her. You reached the small woman, who was desperately clutching the bag. “Doctor-” you called, stretching out a hand, only to be flung away with her by the force of the storm, a harsh blast of air and a torrent of black stones.
For a brief moment, you were weightless, gliding through the air. The only interruptions to that eerie calm were the faint clinking sounds against your helmet and the sting of countless tiny needles pricking your skin. Then, you slammed into part of the ship, the hard impact knocking the breath out of you. It hurt, it hurt really bad, and gasping for new oxygen only made it worse.
A scream jolted you back to awareness. Opening your eyes, which you hadn’t realized were clenched shut, you spotted Shaw, who shared your fate, flung mercilessly by the storm. Summoning every ounce of strength and adrenaline, you clawed your way towards her, gripping the metal with shaking hands. When you reached her, you shielded her with your body, wrapping yourself around the smaller woman as tightly as you could.
The needle-like stings on your skin transformed into burning shards, hitting so hard you began to grow numb. The relentless clinking and clunking filled your ears, making you flinch and curl tighter around Shaw. Tears stung your eyes, but you fought to hold back the sobs clawing their way up your throat.
Your limbs were freezing from fear, your heart hammering wildly against your ribcage. Panic gripped you, cold and merciless, but you forced it down. Elizabeth needed you. There was no time for a heart attack, no time to suffocate, no time to break.
A lump formed in your throat, making every breath even harder, each gasp more shallow than the last. You almost didn’t notice the arm that wrapped around you, steady and firm, fumbling with the belt on your hip.
Then you were turned around, Elizabeth still held tightly in your grasp. You couldn’t bring yourself to loosen your hold, terrified that even the slightest slack might mean losing her to the unforgiving storm.
A familiar voice broke through the chaos. Lifting your head, you saw him - David. You couldn’t make out the words he was saying, but they didn’t matter. What mattered was that he was here. He came for you. He got you.
Through the haze of panic and exhaustion, you barely registered the snap hook he secured to you both, anchoring you to himself. With a precise motion, he activated the wire rope mechanism, pulling all three of you back towards the ship.
Relief washed over you as the realization set in: you were going to be safe. The storm’s relentless clinking pebbles and the shards thrumming against your skin would soon be behind you.
You finally broke down.
Sobs wracked your body, hot tears spilling down your cheeks and pooling at your jaw before soaking into your hair. Mid-air, you clung to David as best as you could. One arm wrapped desperately around him, while the other still refused to let go of Elizabeth.
Everything after that was a blur. At the edge of your awareness, you thought Vladimir and Jackson pulled you inside, but the memory was hazy. The next thing you somewhat processed was Holloway’s voice, loud, shouting at Elizabeth and you. but the meaning of his words escaped you. All you registered was noise.
Were you standing? Sitting? You weren’t sure.
Air. The helmet was lifted from your suit, and you instinctively tried to take a deep breath. It came out uneven, shaky - just like you. Fingers gently pried something from your hand, forcing your gaze to snap in that direction. Your head turned sharply, instinctively protective, until you met a pair of dark brown eyes. Elizabeth. You must have gripped her hand. She held your gaze, her voice soft but clear, pulling you out of the haze. “Hey, we’re safe. I’m safe. Everything’s okay, we’re back on the ship. (Y/N)?” Her words slowly sank in, breaking through the fog clouding your mind. After a long pause, you gave her a small, hesitant nod.
“She seems to be in shock.” Hearing his voice, your eyes snapped back to David. Without thinking, because forming thoughts seemed impossible right now, you wrapped your arms around him, burying your wet face and trembling lips against his chest. You did not care about hiding this anymore.
Your body ached, your head throbbed from crying, and everything felt like too much to handle. But not him, never him.
The voices around you grew quiet, and then you were lifted into the air. But instead of the terrifying weightlessness and the harsh impact of a hard surface, you found yourself securely held against David. The steady rocking motion of him carrying you brought a flicker of calm, and you dared to lift your gaze. He was taking you to the medical bay.
The bright white light of it stung your eyes for a moment, and then he gently set you down on the glowing med station. His movements were careful as he peeled you out of your suit and eased you into a lying position.
“Please, follow my finger with your eyes.” You did as instructed, keeping your gaze locked on his finger as he traced an H into the air. Afterward, he checked your pupils’ reactions with a small flashlight, the beam making you blink. Then, he pressed two fingers to your pulse point, his free thumb brushing softly against your cheek, getting rid of some tear stains.
“You’re stable,” he said, his voice steady, “and not hurt too badly, apart from a few bruises.” He offered you a small, reassuring smile, but it faded as his brows drew together in concern. “What were you doing? You weren’t the one who fell. Why did you jump after Doctor Shaw?”
For the first time in all of the chaos that took place over the span of 20 minutes, you were stunned out of your shocked state, testing your voice before speaking. “She needed help. What was I supposed to do? Leave her on the ground?” Without a moment’s hesitation, he nodded. “Yes. Why would you risk yourself for her?”
Now it was your turn to frown. You gnawed on your bottom lip, holding his gaze as you tried to form an answer. “I would have done it for anyone,” you finally said. “I don’t think in situations like that, I just act. If I can stop someone from getting hurt, I will.”
A silence fell between you, his blue eyes studying you intently, almost as if searching for the logic behind your words. “It’s not always possible,” he said eventually, his tone matter-of-fact, “certainly not for a human.” You hummed softly, acknowledging his point with a small nod. “That doesn’t mean I can’t try, does it? You must think of me as foolish.”
Before you could dwell on his response, you were pulled upright into his lap, his face mere inches from yours. “If there’s one thing I will never think of you,” he said, his voice quiet, “it’s that you are foolish. Reckless and emotional, yes, but not foolish.”
Another pause. “I can’t say that I understand your behavior. To me, it’s irrational, but... it’s also remarkably human of you. I have yet to determine whether it’s a strength or a weakness. Never do the same for me.”
You shrugged, curving your lips into a small smile. “I’ll try.” But this time, David didn’t return the smile. He was serious. His hand reached for your chin, his touch firmer than usual, almost insistent. “Don’t try to sacrifice yourself for me. Ever. I am repairable - you are not. You can’t risk yourself like this.”
Before you could respond, his lips pressed against yours. The kiss started carefully, but that care quickly gave way to something deeper, something closer to desperation. He pulled you tighter against him, the intensity of his 'emotions' bleeding into the moment. “Don’t ever do something so reckless again,” he murmured against your lips before closing the distance once more.
All you could do was thread your fingers through his hair, getting lost in his kisses, forgetting everything that just happened to you for a few minutes.
In the quiet of his mind, he asked himself:
Was that what fear felt like?

HEY I SAW FURIOSA AND IT WAS GREAT
Hemsworth fucking nailed it as Dementus, might be my favorite Mad Max villain in a WHILE. Maybe EVER. I can't remember having this much fun watching an actor's portrayal just for their acting chops/acting decisions/character choices in ages. fuckin amazing.
Dementus's parachute cape costume story?? AMAZING. no notes. all the costume design was lovely
Organic Mechanic feels like one of the first characters that looks like a guy you'd actually meet out at Wasteland, outfit and shtick and all, and I love him
I was veeerry slightly skeptical about Anya Taylor-Joy who I actually really like on-screen, but after like 2 lines she was nailing Furiousa. A+++++. I really felt like she filled out Furiosa more for me as a character emotionally
nux cameo yay
Fury Road is certainly the better film but this was a very very very good film, and an excellent Mad Max film. Felt a lot more like Mad Max/Road Warrior than Fury Road did
Octoboss/the air crew thing was SO FUCKING COOL. jfc. I had my mouth agape and my inner middle schooler screaming. Thinking about attaching a big swamp boat fan to an ATV for WW this year. I need horns for my helmet. ajdhasjk. Also, as always, practical effects were incredible. Stuntsmanship for those paratroopers/hanggliders/etc was BALLS TO THE WALL. A+++ again

Lord forgive me, but I'm writing something long and big about Dr kel.
Dr kel: possibly the part ariral
a post by me.
So, Dr kel. He is one of the strangest things I've been thinking about lately. Dr kel is so... weird. Let's be honest, a human who willingly isolated himself in Switzerland is weird. But let me go into why I think he is part ariral
Tumblr media
This human is know for liking sushi, and eating bugs (it's why you can eat cock roaches in game) and is said Dr kel will eat many other strange things, aka, a dead deer body. And he doesn't get sick by any of this!
What is this human????... simple, they are part ariral. Let's go through some more evidence. Or... rather, some stretches in game mechanics. Dr kel, a human who can lift a atv (aka 500 pounds at best) with ease. Arirals(tall) are 6× stronger then humans! (Short arirals being 2×)
And he can toss the atv with more ease! Long distance and all! carrying? No problem, it's like a sack of potatoes! Dr kel isn't fully human!
More evidence: Dr kel (from what I observed) only takes damage from eating some mushrooms (deathcaps in base). Which arirals are known to have a weak immune system to mushrooms. And Dr kel can take a push from a tall ariral, and shrug it off like nothing. Dr kel likes sea food a lot (he gets the most food points from shrimp) arirals are known for liking shrimp. Arirals have strong immune system (dispite being weak to fungus) and can possibly eat almost anything. And they eat bugs, and like eating bugs. Dr kel is known to love eating bugs.
Yes, all these may be big stretches, but I am a firm believer of Dr kel being part ariral. Possibly 9% at best. That's the end of my rant and evidence spilling. And... trying to convince you. Good day.
Ps, if any one wants to correct me on anything, go ahead. Just don't make fun of me... this is my first post trying to convince people of something.

Hi there! I'm Cate and for the last 6 years I've worked in emergency medical services on an ambulance in the Northeastern United States. I have also been an avid fanfic reader for a long time with a love for hurt/comfort and enemy-to-caretaker. With that in mind, I want to provide a resource to writers.
With the upcoming @whumptober having a plethora of options with trauma, I want to help make the research for injuries a little easier to find and understand.
Below the cut is a long list. If there is a specific catagory you want to see sooner rather than later, send me a message or an ask. Same for if there's something you want to see that's not there.
For ease of injury descriptions "Sam" is our injuried/ill character.
If you have any questions regarding country/regional/state treatment guidelines for your fictional first responders, please reach out and I will try to point you in the right direction. This information is intended solely for use as a fictional writing resource.
DISCLAIMER: This is not medical advice nor is this a suitable substitute for training. Please do not use this information to diagnose or treat yourself for any injury or illness. Seek professional medical advice (emergency medical services, hospitals, urgent cares, tele-health, ect.) if you are injured or ill.

Lost F1 Media
Advanced Driving with Graham Hill (lost ITV motoring series from 1974)
Advanced Driving with Graham Hill (also known as Advanced Driving) was an ATV motoring show. It was presented by two-time Formula One world champion Graham Hill.
It involved Graham Hill giving practical advice on how to become a better and safer driver on the roads of Britain.
Tumblr media
(the book cover)
Background
Advanced Driving with Graham Hill was conceived for ATV, most likely in response to the statistic that stated that 90% of road accidents were the result of poor or incorrect driving, as the shows name says, the presenter was two-time Formula One world champion graham hill.
Graham himself had famously experienced the consequences of serious crashes first-hand;
At the 1969 United States Grand Prix, his Lotus-Ford was suffering from bald real tyres, and crucially a popped-out seatbelt that he was unable to belt properly back-in, even with help from mechanics.
As he drove out again a rear tyre collapsed, causing the car to flip and he was thrown out of the cockpit.
He suffered leg injuries so severe that it was at first deemed unlikely that he would ever race again.
In the end, he recovered fast enough to race for the opening race the following season.
Six 30-minute episodes were made, and were broadcast between June 1974.
The first episode was Graham highlighted the importance of driving concentration, and ensuring fair tyre safety. Other episodes focused on issues such as reverse parking, overtaking, speed and windscreens.
Little else is known surrounding most of the show’s episodes, but the book with the same name, published in 1975 and co-written by Graham Hill and Neil Ewart, was notably based on the series.
Availability
While the book is generally available, the Tv series has yet to publicly resurface, with no footage or images being viewable. Considering ATV famously wiped some of its 1970s programmes, it's possible that Advanced Driving with Graham Hill suffered this fate.

This was so good!!!
What if Daniel takes them dirt biking in Perth because that’s what he likes and the team is just like “we might not always have both feet on the ground but we do like to have 4 wheels”
For the first time, Daniel’s the one pulling out the crazy moves while everyone else is taking it easy
sorry this took so long Bestie, I loved this idea and wanted to give it its own chapter feel
Tumblr media
Bowling |Australia | Helmet | Other prompts
Daniel grinned at the dubious faces around him. For once feeling like he knew what was going on. After the surfing excursion in Melbourne, he’d suggested offhandedly that they go to his family’s ranch in Perth to go off roading. Lewis had been down immediately and Bono had been intrigued.
It hadn’t taken much to put together and he may have thrown Lewis' and Mercedes’ name around to get a quick turnaround but it was worth it when Michelle had sent the video of all the bikes and atvs being unloaded in the bush beyond his Mum’s garden.
He’s been nervous on the flight over, especially with how glum everyone was after the double dnf. But felt a sense of calm the moment they touched down in Perth. It had taken three buses (Mercedes of course) to shuttle them all to Duncraig and it for sure had garnered a small smattering of attention from their neighbours, but the section of the ranch they were at was secluded and away from everyone.
Everyone had taken the travel day to settle into Daniel’s unused farmhouse on the edge of the property. It was a tight fit but fun in the way a family vacation felt. Grace, Joe and his Nonna had been excited to cook for everyone and they chatted away with Lewis, Toto, George and Bono while Daniel wandered off to look at the vehicles.
He’d wheeled his own bike out of the shed, which caught a few of the mechanics’ attention and that's how he’d inadvertently started a group tuning session. Working on something other than an f1 car while shooting the shit had seemed to be exactly what the doctor ordered. And the family meal afterwards was the cherry on top.
That was yesterday, today he grinned gleefully as everyone took in the ‘course’. He was proud of his little masterpiece, building the jumps himself with a few of his buddies over the course of three years. Before he headed to Europe and met up with Charles and subsequently Lewis.
“Lewis, George you are not allowed to do the hard course. Stick to the road course please.” Toto piped up, eyeing one of the larger jumps in the distance. This caused a round of snorting laughter.
“So! How about a track ride?” Daniel grinned and Lewis hopped on his chosen bike eagerly. Some of the mechs were definitely more hesitant, choosing the atvs– preferring four wheels to the death trap of two.
“Uncle Daniel!” A small voice yelled, Isabella ran out of the house holding a helmet that was almost as long as she was tall. “Nonna says to wear your helmet!”
“Ah, thanks Bells.” Daniel lifted her onto his hip. “Do you want to do the track ride with us?” He dipped his head and she put his goggles over his curls.
“Can we do the ET jump?” She asked and Daniel cackled an ‘of course’.
“ET jump?” George asked, putting on his own helmet. He chose a bike.
“The big one,” Daniel settled his niece on the seat of his bike and pointed to the jump in the distance everyone seemed hesitant about. “When you jump it, Isaac says it looks like the movie when he’s flying off.”
Lewis laughed and started his bike, he’d only looked at Daniel’s thighs in his shorts a normal amount. But they needed to hurry up before that changed with how amazing they looked clutching the bit of machinery.
“You’re really gonna jump it with her?” Someone piped up from the back.
“Oh, Bells has done this course loads of times. Right Bells?” Daniel looked down and she grinned up at him with a nod. He helped to fasten his helmet on her head and swung his leg over the back of the bike. “Ready?” He asked the team with a manic grin.
He saw the moment a few of the mechanics realized that he may just be as wild as Lewis was, just for different sports. There was a new appreciation and respect in their eyes.
“Lets gooooo!” Isabella giggled when Daniel revved his back and took off in a wheelie. She giggled the whole way point in different directions. Daniel looked through his mirrors to see the line of off road vehicles behind him and whooped a cheer. He heard Lewis’ laugh beside him before he sped off for the first jump. Lewis landed cleanly on the other side followed by Toto and George. Daniel waited til everyone went (Bella yelling her notes for more speed) before taking the first jump and throwing a small kick for flair.
They did the first run that way, with some people gaining more and more confidence as the lap went on. The big jump was where a lot of people chickened out much to Daniel’s glee. They were all for jumping out of planes and doing all sorts of dangerous shit, but a pile of dirt was where they drew the line.
“I thought about making a pussy path around it but Chelle wouldn’t let me.”
“Uncle Daniel!” Isabella gasped.
“We’ll do a trick if you don’t tell your Nonna!” Daniel bargained quickly, causing snickers.
“The flip one.”
“You drive a hard bargain miss Bells.” Daniel held his pinky out for her to hook hers to. She did so with a smile. “I guess we’ll show off a little for our friends.” Daniel teased, looping his bike further back for space and speed.
Lewis watched him with a grin, loving how confident and comfortable Daniel was on the back of his bike doing crazy tricks in the dirt. He landed the front flip easily on the other side, using one hand to clutch his niece’s body easily while they inverted. Isabella kept her hands clutched on the handlebars. The movement was smooth as if they really did this often.
Lewis watched Daniel enjoy the team’s cheers with a honking laugh and endeavored to do more things with him that made him light up this way.

Ops
Chapter Four: Meat and Mouths
The makeshift mess hall used to be a mechanic’s bay—grease stains still scarred the floor, and the long work tables had scorch marks like tattoos of past missions. But there was food now, hot and fragrant, slapped together from MREs and whatever torque could blackmail out of a supply run.
Titan sat across from Ghost at the head table. Their plates were almost identical—grilled protein, rice, greens. Nothing sweet. No indulgence. Just fuel.
Their utensils moved in sync. One bite, two chews, swallow. They didn’t look at each other, but their timing said everything.
They’d done this a hundred times. Maybe more.
Around them, the rest of the squad ate in varying levels of exhaustion. Torque was mid-rant about someone stealing his energy gels. Phantom was eating with headphones in. Wraith hadn’t touched their tray, watching Pulse and Static instead.
Outside the open bay door, under the glare of strung-up floodlights, the rookies sat at the lone exterior table. Their shoulders slumped. Their pride bruised.
Ghost could hear Pulse whispering. His voice wasn’t low enough.
“…man, I’m just saying. Shit don’t feel right. That’s the fuckin’ leader, and you telling me the Terminator chick just happens to be his girl? Please. He only backs her ‘cause he’s getting it in. Ain’t nobody that scary by accident.”
Static murmured something back. Too quiet to catch.
Titan didn’t flinch.
She chewed, swallowed, licked the salt from her bottom lip.
Then raised a brow and looked at Ghost.
He didn’t move. But his eyes darkened.
Titan reached over, laid a hand on his forearm. Her grip was light, but sure. Firm. The only thing on Earth he let still him.
She shook her head once.
“Let him talk,” she said, voice soft like velvet wrapped around barbed wire. “I think it’s about time we have the team introduce themselves to the new bloods.”
She stabbed a piece of meat, chewed thoughtfully, then added, “And after that... I think it would only be fair for their leader to show what a ‘hard ass’ really looks like. Physically.”
Ghost’s lip curled.
Titan smirked.
“They gone fold on the first day, Joshua. I got a back massage riding on Pulse throwing up the moment shit gets real.”
Ghost chuckled low, finally relaxing into his seat. “You’re cruel.”
“I’m realistic.”
They didn’t need to say it—but both knew what came next.
Break time was over.
Tomorrow, there’d be team introductions. Controlled demonstrations. A reminder that Ghost and Titan weren’t just names—they were legends breathing down your neck.
And Pulse?
He was already marked for public correction.
Chapter Five: Welcome to the Show
The training ground was a gutted stretch of private land surrounded by jungle and silence—ideal for off-grid missions, worse for keeping secrets.
Mid-morning sun cut through the overcast sky. The team assembled with mechanical efficiency, spread across the open field like predators waiting for the signal.
Pulse and Static stood at attention by the rusted supply crate Ghost had turned into a podium. Neither had been told what was coming. The tension hung thick.
Titan leaned against a reinforced ATV, arms crossed, tank dusted in dried clay, a matte black sidearm slung at her hip like it was born there. Ghost was beside her, sunglasses on, silent and still.
“Alright,” Titan said, voice carrying clear across the field. “You two wanna know who we are? Who the fuck you’re working with?”
She jerked her chin toward the rest of the squad.
“Then shut up, and watch.”
One by one, the team moved.
Echo stepped forward first, hood up, sleeves rolled. She set down a portable rig, snapped her fingers once—and within seconds, the area’s radio chatter burst to life. Enemy coordinates, convoy routes, false flag comms looping through like she was weaving a sonic spiderweb.
“No one speaks louder than me in enemy territory,” she said, voice calm. “You’ll die in silence, or live in confusion—but never because I missed a signal.”
Next, Wraith moved with ghostlike grace to a sniper platform, unfolded her kit, and without a single word, took three shots.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
Three targets exploded in succession downrange. One through the eye socket. One through the heart. One clean through a moving drone.
She said nothing. Just looked down at Pulse and Static like they weren’t worth the bullet.
Phantom laughed. “Now it’s my turn.”
He slapped charges onto a mock structure, humming to himself while setting tripwire traps and pressure bombs like it was a cooking show. “You never know how much you love life until I give you ten seconds to run.”
Boom—BOOM—crack!
The structure collapsed in a perfect V. Controlled chaos.
Then came Torque, driving a sand-kissed APC out of nowhere, drifting hard, brake-screeching in just short of a barricade. He stepped out grinning, dusting off his gloves.
“You die before I wreck,” he said.
Titan gave him a chin nod.
“Cute,” she muttered. “But now let’s show them what command looks like.”
She walked forward, picked up a heavy combat dummy—tossed it like a sack of rice—and slammed it against a wall. Her boots were loud, but her body didn’t waver. She dropped to the ground, broke the dummy’s "arm," stood, and threw a knife that landed dead center between Pulse’s boots.
“Lesson one,” she said coolly, “never misjudge someone who could carry your body and weapon back alone.”
Then she walked off. Like she hadn’t just threatened the man’s life with perfect aim.
Silence. Until Ghost stepped forward.
The air shifted.
No theatrics. No announcements.
He set down his rifle. Pulled off his tactical vest. Cracked his neck.
Then he began.
He moved through an advanced combat course like water through broken rock—disarming targets, launching strikes, redirecting force and motion in seamless flow. A knife went from hand to hand. Two dummies went down before they even registered his presence.
One moment he was gone. The next, Pulse blinked—and Ghost was behind him.
No breath. No sound.
Then Ghost grabbed him by the front of the vest and yanked him forward until their faces were an inch apart.
“You think this team runs on favoritism?” Ghost growled. “You think someone survives five years of blood, fire, and betrayal because they’re getting laid?”
Pulse didn’t speak. Couldn’t.
“She held the line while others ran. She dragged three bodies out of a collapsing convoy. She doesn’t need me. You need her.”
Ghost let go. The medic stumbled back like the weight of truth had finally landed.
Titan tossed Ghost a canteen. He caught it without looking, twisted it open, drank once.
She looked at the rookies.
“Now,” she said dryly, “introduce yourselves to the people who will decide if your corpse gets zipped up or not.”
Chapter Six: Say It With Your Chest
The air hadn’t cooled from the demonstrations. The only thing louder than the silence was the weight of judgmentpressing down on the rookies.
Ghost hadn’t said a word since he’d leveled Pulse with the kind of correction that could echo in a man’s spine for weeks. But now, standing in the center of the clearing again, he turned, just enough to let his voice reach them all.
“Introduce yourselves,” he said. No bark. No bite. Just iron.
Static stepped forward first, shoulders tense, hands laced behind her back like she was still reporting to an instructor back in intel school.
“Zoe Kim,” she began. “Callsign Static. Communications specialist. I graduated top tier in signal interception and layered encryption modeling. I’ve done field sims in both urban and rural breakdowns but—” She exhaled, glancing toward Titan, “—I haven’t been tested in live fire zones yet. I know that. I’m here to earn your trust, not assume it.”
Titan didn’t speak, but her chin lifted a touch—acknowledging the honesty.
Wraith tilted her head. “Smart,” she murmured. “Knows she’s green, but she’s not frontin’ like she’s ready for Hell Week.”
Ghost nodded once. “Next.”
Pulse stepped up with the kind of swagger that hadn’t been earned yet—like he’d already forgotten Ghost’s hand on his vest ten minutes ago.
“Name’s Daniel Diaz. Callsign Pulse. Ex–infantry corpsman. Served two deployments with battalion med teams and another year as front-line trauma response. Triage under fire? Done it. Mobile extraction under RPG pressure? Done it. Stitch with one hand, shoot with the other? Bet on it.”
He smiled—flashed it, really—at Wraith first, then let his eyes slide to Titan. “Glad to be part of the crew. Real glad.”
Wraith stared at him like he was a mosquito on her scope.
Phantom blinked once, slowly. “Yo… did this man just wink at a sniper?”
Echo scoffed. “He did. You’re seeing it correctly.”
Torque chuckled from where he was squatting near the vehicle bay. “I give him three days before he flirts with someone mid-firefight.”
Pulse shrugged. “Hey, gotta bring morale where you can.”
Ghost stepped forward, and the ground seemed to quiet beneath him.
Titan leaned against a stack of ammo crates, arms crossed around the weapon slung across her chest. Her expression unreadable—letting Ghost work.
He looked at Pulse. Really looked at him. Not just as a commander, but as someone who’d buried soldiers with better instincts and quieter mouths.
“You’re real proud of your résumé,” Ghost said flatly. “I’ve seen soldiers with longer lists fold the second blood splashes their boots.”
Pulse stiffened slightly. “With respect, I’m not folding.”
“No,” Ghost said. “You’re posing.”
Silence. Heavy. Like thunder without lightning yet.
“Let me explain something, rookie. This team doesn’t run on how pretty your war stories sound. We run on muscle memory and trust. On results. You do not wink at teammates who can put a round in your eye from a thousand yards. You do not grin at women who could carry your body weight in weapons alone.”
He gestured toward Titan, who didn’t move, didn’t even blink—just stood with that quiet readiness that made the back of Pulse’s neck prickle.
“She won’t tell you this. But she doesn’t owe you comfort. She owes this team success. And if your mouth ever moves faster than your skill set again—”
Ghost stepped closer, voice dropping low enough that only Pulse could hear it.
“—I’ll let her handle you next time. And I promise… she’s much less patient than I am.”
He stepped back. Looked to the rest of the squad.
“You’ve met your team,” Ghost said to Static and Pulse. “You’ve seen what you’re trying to become. Now the real question—”
His eyes burned into them.
“Are you here to contribute... or be carried until you’re a liability?”
Pulse didn’t have a smirk this time. Static stood straighter.
Titan finally moved, pushing off the crates and resting her rifle over her shoulder.
She didn’t need to say it, but she did anyway.
“Guess we’ll find out.”
Chapter Seven: Baptism by Dirt and Fire
The sun hadn’t risen yet. The world sat in a swampy pre-dawn hush, thick with moisture and silence broken only by the occasional insect click or the low hum of Torque’s engine keeping idle.
The mission was simple on paper: early recon of the convoy path, assess for interference or IED markers, check-in with a local contact. No official engagement.
On paper.
But nothing worth bleeding for ever stuck to paper.
The blacked-out MRAP crawled to a halt just short of the second checkpoint—a crumbling fuel depot overrun with vines and hollowed walls. It smelled like mildew, diesel, and the kind of silence that made soldiers sharpen their instincts.
Ghost sat in the passenger seat, scanning the perimeter. Titan was in the back, next to Pulse and Static, one hand resting lightly on her modified LMG.
Wraith’s voice crackled softly through the comms.
“Eyes on all angles. No movement yet.”
“Copy,” Ghost said. “Team two, on foot. Phantom, Echo, clear the left side. Rookies, with Titan. Move.”
The doors opened in synchronicity, boots hitting the ground like clockwork. Ghost was the last out, scanning behind them as Titan took point.
Pulse was trying not to fidget, but Titan didn’t miss it. Her voice was low.
“Keep your weapon up. Breathe through your nose. You can have a panic attack after we’re not in a blast zone.”
Static held tighter to her comms rig, eyes scanning the rooftops as she walked three paces behind. She was quiet. Focused.
Titan swept the area with cold precision, her movements quiet despite the weight she carried. She paused at the doorway of the station’s office shell.
“Static—mark anything with a signal bounce.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Static muttered, adjusting her scanner.
“Don’t ‘ma’am’ me,” Titan snapped. “Just do it right.”
Pulse followed behind, eyes flicking from corner to corner. Something was off—he could feel it too.
Suddenly—
click.
Titan froze. Her arm shot out in front of Pulse, stopping him just short of stepping over a tripwire.
“The fuck did I say about looking down?” she hissed.
“I didn’t see it,” he whispered.
“No shit.” She crouched, eyes narrowing. “Phantom, we got a pressure rigged—small—corner hallway.”
“On my way,” Phantom radioed, all too cheerfully.
Ghost’s voice came over the comms next.
“Status?”
“Rookie almost lost a leg,” Titan said flatly. “Nothing I couldn’t catch. But we’re not playing anymore.”
By the time Phantom arrived and diffused the trap with a shrug, Ghost was already moving in.
He said nothing until they were all back in the open lot, regrouping. Then his voice cut like a blade.
“Rookies. Front.”
Static and Pulse stepped forward, boots heavy, pulse louder.
“You just got lucky,” Ghost said, staring down Pulse. “Because Titan’s instincts beat your ignorance. That doesn’t make you valuable. That makes her twice as tired for watching your six.”
Titan remained silent, reloading her weapon. Still alert. Still scanning.
“But,” Ghost added, “you both didn’t fold. You kept moving. And Static—”
He turned slightly toward her.
“—you caught the drone tag. The one in the rafters.”
Her eyes widened. “I thought that was just shadow.”
“It wasn’t.”
Titan finally looked up.
“Good instincts,” she said to Static. “Next time, trust them. And you—” her eyes slid to Pulse— “you almost got blown the fuck up.”
He looked away.
“But you didn’t scream. You didn’t freeze. So I’ll give you that. But your next mistake? It might cost someone else.”
Ghost stepped in, adjusting his vest.
“And if that happens…” His eyes narrowed. “You’ll wish it had been you who stepped on the wire.”
The team loaded back into the truck.
The silence now wasn’t empty—it was heavy. Earning space, not being given it.
Titan looked at Ghost as she climbed in, her body brushing close as she passed.
He didn’t say anything. But she caught the smallest twitch of his jaw. Not disapproval.
Just awareness.
They were in sync again.
Like two predators on the same frequency.

So I...may have fashioned an AU where Rocket, Lylla, Teefs and Floor escape, land on earth and meet Tony as a young (ish, like 10?) kid?
Initially, Howard kept them captive to do more experiments on them, but Tony's first step towards rebelling was going down there and when he wasn't supposed to.
Bing Bang Boom, he has friends.
He gives them comfort, tasty food and talks to them about...life. Maybe even develops ideas for his suit with Rocket.
Howard and Maria die and Tony tries to let them go, but they stay.
Tony and Rocket keep making things, they both make things go boom as a way of relieving their anger and pain. Meanwhile, Lylla, Teefs and Floor are just...his eccentric roommates.
Pepper helps Lylla study business and she's able to get legs that not only are painless, but also help her swim. Teefs fashions schematics for Stark ATVs and vehicles. They're the safest vehicles on market. Floor makes friends with the other bots. Tony relives her of her pain from her legs and he carries her to and from work with him. His cute, furry, bodyguard with the bite force of T-rex.
Rocket makes the best ship ever with Tony's help.
Rocket and co. go into the stars. Lylla founds Stark-Mad Mechanics, an Intergalactic Toy Company.

[Review] Sonic Dream Team (ATV)
Tumblr media
Hardlight finally gets let off the leash.
Based in the British town of Leamington Spa, Sega's studio Hardlight has been pumping out Sonic mobile games since 2012, mostly numerous versions of Sonic Dash but also Sonic Jump (the smartphone version) and the mobile non-Team version of Team Sonic Racing. These games, with their streamlined gameplay and aggressive monetisation/grinding mechanics, have rarely impressed me. Finally, Sega has allowed them to make a real game and the result is a pretty gosh dang decent Sonic experience.
Cream is an important part of the plot for maybe the first time ever as Eggman has kidnapped her in order to hijack her unconscious mind to steal the power of the dream dimension or something. Luckily, Sonic and pals follow him into the dreamscape to help the sheep lady Ariem (geddit?), guardian of dreams, to fight back. You know, this game presented the perfect opportunity to incorporate Sonic Team's Nights into actual Sonic lore after decades of cameos (or, for that matter, reference the existing lore of Sonic Shuffle)... but oh well. The dream setting gives a good excuse for the level design to be surreal and out there, but Sonic is usually just like that anyway.
Tumblr media
The core loop is about getting dream orbs to unlock new levels. The main source of these is challenge levels which like various Wii Sonic games remix each main level with specific goals. While there aren't too many levels in total (12 in the story mode, plus boss fights) they get good mileage out of these, or replaying for collectibles on alternate paths. What I like about the level design is the semi-open spaces that are often included, little playgrounds to test your characters' abilities and explore between the linear platforming sections and grind rails. While there's a lot of asset recycling, all the levels are fully 3D—no filler 2D sections in sight—and often manage to have some memorable setpieces, despite being relatively small. Beating the campaign also unlocks a handful of harder stages, added in a postlaunch update, which offer a fun and satisfying challenge.
Another cool feature is the character roster. For one of the very few times in the entire franchise—thank you Rush—there is actual gender parity [within the binary, of course], with your playable cast coming in pairs: Sonic and Amy (can air dash and light speed dash), Tails and Cream (can fly briefly), and Knuckles and Rouge (can glide and climb). On a basic level they all play the same, with a homing attack and boost: this is damaging like in "boost formula" games, but with a short Frontiers-like recharging bar that's also quickly refilled by pickups scattered throughout the game world. Once they're unlocked, you can freely swap between them during a level, and their strengths all feel useful at different times.
Tumblr media
Actually, forget what I said about gender balance because just recently Shadow was added to the game. He is playable in bespoke challenge stages in a separate mode, but you can unlock him for story mode... by playing and consistently beating challenges for... [carry the two] upwards of forty days!?? So this game does retain some obnoxious mobile game-isms in the form of time-restricted content and reward tracks. Anyway, Shadow is fun to use with unique abilities borrowed and adapted from his powers in Shadow Generations: he can slow time with Chaos Control and warp short distances in arbitrary directions. I just wish I could simply play his levels without being forced to come back for the randomly allotted dribs and drabs.
Being set in an otherworldly mindzone isn't quite used to its full potential. The opening world is a beach zone where much of the landscape, and the crab boss, are made up of inflatable pool toys, a fun idea. The second world's goop factory and robot boss are a bit less inspired, but the third world's spooky hedge maze is cool and plays with gravity à la Lost World, ending with a fight against a creepy bat-octopus monster. The final world is Eggman's idealised metropolis, the aptly named Ego City, filled with statues of him (and some Colours-style pronouncements over the tannoy). This ends not with a proper boss fight but a platforming gauntlet, although the giant multi-armed dream-Eggman that you clamber all over is a cool enough setpiece to justify itself.
Tumblr media
At the moment I can't say how the extra stages end, because the current version of the game contains a bug that means Ego City Act 3 Challenge 6 can't be completed, and you need all the orbs to unlock the final bit. I'm told a fix is on the way, but who knows when it will release? I should note that this game remains for now locked to the Apple Arcade service which many Sonic fans aren't happy about. I don't mind too much, there's plenty of games in the series locked to certain formats or that have been delisted. Being playable with a controller or on touchscreens, the control scheme is simple and despite a few welcome accessibility features, it can be a bit clumsy to control at times. Some of that can perhaps be attributed to my Apple TV model, which can technically play the game but with problematic performance and frequent crashes, even on the lowest graphic settings. Using a Mac or connecting a controller to a higher-end smart device is what I'd recommend if you can.
Tumblr media
After toiling in the mobile game mines for so long, I'm so glad Hardlight got the chance to show their stuff with a more full-featured Sonic game, and it's a commendable effort considering its relatively small scope and probably low budget. I'm disappointed by the performance issues and crashes though, considering I've played games that seem more technically demanding on this same device without problem. The music doesn't have quite the same punch as the series' heavy hitters either, but it's pleasant enough. Anyway it's worth playing if possible, and hopefully one day there'll be a version where the side levels aren't locked on a three-per-day cycle.
And that brings to an end my six-month-long journey through the Sonic franchise! It was supposed to be a brief jaunt but turned into a monumental odyssey, with soaring heights and crushing lows. The series is constantly reinventing itself, for better or worse, and I wouldn't have it any other way. What a rollercoaster, a thrilling exercise in radical creativity, unselfconscious attitude, and corporate meddling. I can't wait to see what the next roll of the dice brings us!

This is Etta Hampton (Ezy) aka The Recluse the one and only Spiderwoman of New Tulsa on earth 9539
Etta is 17 and lives with her Uncle Barney who owns the Urban Stables that most people in North use for boarding. Etta's lived with her Uncle Barney since she was seven after the death of her parents in a mysterious OzCorp Refinery explosion. She has an army of aunties and cousins that live on the East Coast in Old York or DC.
Etta is incredibly smart, soft spoken and caring. She loves ATV or horse trail riding, welding, pottery, and botany. To the point she plans on triple majoring civil engineering, mechanical engineering and sculpture after she graduates from the Parker's Gifted Academy. Her uncle is her biggest supporter for her education and hobby pursuits and gave her her own garage/studio to work in.
Etta is best friends with the fire chief's son Bart Brown (9539's Hobie), the Bugle Radio's owner's daughter Merry Jameson ( 9539's MJ) and Harry O. (9539's green goblin who just causes more chaos over harm, absolutely hate his father) who the world fattest crush on her and she is 100% oblivious to it.
When Etta was 14 she stormed off after an argument with various of her visiting aunties about her "manish" pursuits she took her four-wheeler and went off trail to a forbidden zone that was the contamination and closed of remains of the OzCorp Refinery. While exploring the remains, Etta was bitten by a radioactive Brown Recluse when security guards had cornered her and she was forced to hide in one of the old R&D offices.
She has the usual power set for a spider person: Spidey sense, the ability to stick to walls, super strength and super agility. Along with long sharp nails that are extremely durable and sharpened canines that have a paralytic and necrotic venom. Etta has two specialty abilities: one is to produce different kinds of acid from her hands and apply it to her organic webs to create different kinds of traps or help her to escape. The other is an ability to control her temperature to the point she can send heat waves of energy off her body or stun/shock others with a fridged touch.
As the Recluse her biggest foes are Cyclone Sandman, Cotton Mouth, and King Scorpion. She has a half allyship with the for hire thief/ spy Prowler (Miles M. Davis) and Green Goblin (she usually just catches and releases with his antics) the fire chief and sheriff work well with her. In school as her regular persona her academic rival is Miles.
Etta tricked out an ATV to fit her theme and made it hover/wall fly so she can still get to places that don't have the highrises that need her help. She controls it remotely sometimes to help rescue people or lead the emergency services to a location/criminals she's taken care of. This causes her Uncle Barney to think she is a close friend of Recluse and works on her tech. He likes Recluse but is highly worried for 'both' their safeties.
The only "Canon Events" she has gone through is the death of her parents and giving up being Spiderwoman for a while after she failed to save a little boy's parents during a train derailment caused by Sandman.
Miguel sent Jess and Ben to recruit her for the Spider Society after she dealt with a Vulture variant and he worried over the fact that her Gwen Stacy event hadn't occurred yet (death of Harry in her case, his spine snaps as he is GG when she tired to stop him from plummeting after a mid-air battle) they haven't explained this to her yet. Etta tries to stay in her world but really likes collaborating on inventions with other spider-peoples and usually sticks to the R&D or repair department over missions.
Is works besties with Margo but highly distrusts Lyla. She partial mentors under Jess and let's Gwen stay in her dimension sometimes when Hobie's world is overwhelming.
Loves blooming onions and other savory snacks, it's not unusual to see her as Recluse snacking on jerky or street corn. Tamale ladies love her. Often wears overalls or jeans jackets over her spider suit. Has hella Spotify followers because her playlists are absolutely fire (even Miles admits this)
And that's kinda it! I have hella backstory about my girl, please ask about her😁💛
