Only she didn't 'decline' him - he couldn't marry her anyway, because she was not from a noble parentage.
But generally I think we often forget how many female characters from Conan Doyle's stories have strong will and make independent choices. It's a shame we don't talk enough about it.
I absolutely LOOOVE Irene Adler in the books
The way that she just declined a marriage to a KING cuz she didn’t like the vibe of him and then married some lawyer in a church as quickly as she could with Sherlock Holmes as the only witness (dressed as an old man)
And that she says that she often uses male clothing and takes advantage of the freedom it gives her
An icon for everything honestly

📚 🅱🅾🅾🅺 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆 📚 𝗔 𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗡 𝗕𝗢𝗛𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗔 (Dyslexic Friendly) Sir Arthur Conan Doyle With @booksonthehill ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I was able to tag on to the end of the book tour hosted by Love Books Tours, to whom I owe my thanks for the copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. 𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 Firstly, I think it's brilliant that a kickstarter was launched to publish dyslexia friendly books for adults. There is woefully little support from the government on this front so I have nothing but praise for Books On The Hill. Now, who doesn't love a good Sherlock Holmes story. I was familiar with the original stories, but many may be more familiar with the episode of Sherlock on BBC which featured a twist to this very story. This greatest Detective, master of disguise, and genius, has been oft imitated for over 100 years, and could arguably be the inspiration for Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Monk, or Magnum P.I. I'm joking about Magnum. This may be the story where Sherlock felt flutters of love, or if not, deep admiration for the woman who outsmarted him. Irene Adler pops up every now and again, both on television and film. She seems to be just as shrewd and driven as Holmes. This is a great book to introduce Holmes to those not familiar with the original stories, and the fact that it has been published in a dyslexia friendly format is excellent. How can I give A Scandal In Bohemia, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle KStJ DL, any less than five stars. #ad #gifted #ascandalinbohemia #dyslexiafriendly #dyslexiafriendlybooks #lovebookstours #booksonthehill #sherlockholmes #booklover #bookstagrammers #johnsbookshelf #bookstabloggers #bookreader #blogtour #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookshelf #bookaddict #igreads #bookblog #readabook #johnsbookshelfblogs #bookaholic #fortheloveofbooks #goodreadschallenge2022 #bookpost #blogpost #johnsbookshelfreviews (at Southampton, England, U.K.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CezNoRErTMO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What a woman - oh, what a woman! Did I not tell you how quick and resolute she was? Would she not have made and admirable queen? Is it not a pity that she was not on My level?

Only it's Lestrade, not Mystrade :))) And detective Gregson is a character from ACD books, so it is canon (sort of).
I always envy people who find Sherlock rude - because to me it means that they never met anyone who was really rude and really didn't care about other people's emotions. For me his behaviour shows him as ill-mannered, and in our modern society I'm rather used to it (when I was in Germany on a student's exchange program I hated how absolutely every stranger was referring to me with 'Du' instead of 'Sie' - that was a rudeness for me, but it's a way they communicate in this country, so nothing is perfect in this world). And when he says to Anderson or even John to shut up - well, who wouldn't? He's doing his job, and he is the best in the room, so either let him do it or find someone else.
And as for sexism - to be honest, I think that Western societies are currently so obsessed with it they can conjure it out of the thin air. What is a real sexism for me? Well, for example, when an accomplished writer (a man) says during a meeting with readers: "It is unusual when a woman writes good prose". Yes, I am offended by that. But I'm not offended by 'Sherlock', because, as Moffat says, it is a show about a man who has a certain approach towards women, and, by the way, understands that is bad - as was shown in 'The Abominable Bride'.
And as for Irene... Well, 'A Scandal in Belgravia' is one of the worst episodes of 'Sherlock', and maybe one day I'll write an essay with detailed explanation why I think so. For now I can say that I don't understand why people think Irene is smart. She's not. She got herself in big trouble and couldn't find a way out. One person told her Sherlock was coming, another person helped her fake her death, Moriarty helped her seduce Sherlock... Wait, she's a f*cking dominatrix - she needed help with that too?? Oh, wait, she is a lesbian. Sort of. Maybe. Perhaps. At least it's what she's saying. Or maybe she can't decide that without help either. So in the end for me she's just pathetic. And I don't think it's a sexism. I personally have sympathy for Molly and Mary, but not for Irene. Some women are just like her - pretentious and vulgar, and to show them as they are is not sexism.
So it's a shame the Soviet version isn't that popular - it has its flaws, but at least it has the best interpretation of 'A Scandal in Bohemia'. Pure canon, without all this dirt.
I'm just eight minutes in Elementary and I'm already hating it.
Not a good start.

New Friendships
@ascandalinbohemia
Anna’s trembling fingers ghost down her dirtied apron. It had been a tough day. Cleaning up after crude soldiers, most of whom could not hold their ale, was hardly a dream occupation. However, it was work. Work kept her mind busy so that she could not fixate her attention elsewhere; upon all of the dangers facing her family and friends.
When a strange female walked into the tavern, Anna put the dirty pewter mugs she had been carrying, on the nearest table. Slowly making her way to the door she offers the other a courteous smile. “Be there something I can do for you, Ma’am?” The brunette queries.
#ascandalinbohemia#the starter you have requested. Sorry it took me so long#I've been pretty sick and I've been going to appointments with my dad. so that we can wrap up his cancer treatments

Hello, hello, hello. Do you prefer small books that have more than one tale or big books with just one story? I must confess I have a thing for Big Books, I love big packages and just my arm hurting of carrying it around. But small books are just so easy to carry around, and fit everywhere. Here is some Sherlock Holmes Adventures by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: -A Scandal in Bohemia -The Boscombe Valley Mystery -The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle January 25th 2020, Love, Mariana #aventurasdesherlockholmes #theadventuresofsherlockholmes #sherlockholmes #sirarthurconandoyle #arthurconandoyle #umescandalonaboemia #ascandalinbohemia #theboscombevalleymystery #omisteriodovaleboscombe #theadventureofthebluecarbuncle #ocarbunculoazul #globalnoticias #bookstagram #tugaandbooks20 #reading #booksaremydrug #bookworm #bookdragon #leitura #habitosdeleitura #reading #booksandflowers #booksofinstagram #yalovin #bookaesthetic #lifeofabookworm #creativebookstagram #bookshelf #bookcase #bookaddict #booknerd https://www.instagram.com/p/B74XS9zgFZT/?igshid=19a4e4enbohb5

Sherlock’s Scandal in Identity
There is much debate over Sherlock Holmes sexual orientation, yet in A Scandal in Bohemia Holmes seems to be asexual. He refers to Irene Adler as a very delicate woman and has deep respect for her as she is the sole person who has been able to outsmart Holmes and she is a woman. This is shown through his reference to her as “the woman.” No other woman compares to her.
However, the other side of the argument is that he may be gay and seek to pursue a relationship with John Watson. This side argues that this is proved through the fact that Holmes wants to have Watson around him to keep him company, such as when he stated, “I am lost without my Boswell” in A Scandal in Bohemia. Although, this may refer to Watson as the narrator. We would not know about the meeting between the King and Holmes if Watson was not present.

Moriarty had been personally offended by the low life that cheated one of his better clients. So he made his way to the last known address however opened the door only to see somebody already there. An female who seemed to be annoyed by the lack of finding the owner of the place.
“Shame really was looking forward to an easy revenge.”
