after-war AU where dabi lives but is babied by his dad and ends up in some kind of rehabilitation centre that is like, top of the line, more a fancy hotel for the broken rich kids end up there. and you’re in there for (reasons) and dabi’s not interested in bonding with the other assholes, u included, but his anger feels familiar and mirrored to you and anyways in the end you both break out (well you just kinda leave, bc u can just sign yourself out, but dabi’s under tighter restrictions so yeah he does have to break out) and then anyways u both start a bloody crime rampage across the country because dabi can’t stand the idea of going back to a family that he wanted dead (he did. and he didn’t. but he did. and he didn’t) and you’ve never seen yourself living a long life so. whatever. LOL. there’s only one way this rat-run weaving in and out of cities and into the rural parts of the country can end—but maybe somewhere along the way, when you’re lying next to each other in the back of a stolen van and listening to the quiet outside, to him shifting as his hand skims against yours, you think these small moments might be worth it.

Thinking about that bit from Mother 3 where Kumatora defends Duster from his asshole dad and everything that led up to it:

"You know, you shouldn't keep calling your own kid a moron. Because if he really is a moron, he wouldn't understand anyway."

That line hit me hard when I first played through that scene. Rarely do I get genuinely angry at characters in video games, but Wess absolutely infuriated me throughout the chapter. He sets Duster up for failure by telling him "you'll know it when you see it" in regards to the item he's been sent to retrieve, then gets angry when Duster inevitably brings back the wrong thing (to the point of physically breaking said item, which visibly stresses out Duster).

He continually berates Duster the rest of the journey through the castle, calling him a moron and even a failure. When Kumatora steps in to defend Duster, Wess has no response. It's not until Duster does something right in Wess's eyes that he "takes it all back". Even though Duster's more than proved himself by that point, Wess stays hung up on one mistake and will not let Duster forget it.

Duster is not a moron. He's extremely aware of everything his dad says, and understands what he means by it.

And despite supposedly taking it all back, and after his son being missing for three years, he calls him a moron one last time.

It's quite a light insult for a game with so many dark themes, but it's a frighteningly realistic depiction of what some parents are like. Slowly wearing you down with petty insults and mockery until you don't have the confidence to defend yourself. Then give you the barest of compliments when you do something "right".

“Of course it is,” Carwood cut him off. It was almost like they’d switched positions, in two years. Neither hunted nor hunter, neither loved nor lover, the same in the most opposite way. “It’s always been too late. Since… since the day I first saw you, it was too late.”

Dark eyes bore into his and barely wavered. Slender, calloused fingers tightened around his own before releasing them.

“Go.” Ronald Speirs said, and stepped further back into the cell. “Before I won’t let you.”

Do you have any characters you hate in canon but love to write in your fics?

This is such an interesting question!!

The short answer is... Kinda? There aren't many characters that I genuinely hate on the show (*cough*Pip*cough*), or at least not any that I've decided to include in a fic.

But if you're along for the ride, I've got additional thoughts that sort of answer your question hehehehe

So when I first actually sat down to watch South Park from the beginning I was already primed to dislike Cartman. And who wouldn't? He's a spoiled, selfish, bigoted asshole. So when I set out to write him in TSOB I was... Not stoked, if I'm being honest. His dialogue always took me the longest and I kept his pov super limited because I found him so challenging to write.

Eventually though, something clicked. I'm not sure if it was a deeper understanding of his insecurities or if my own brain finally let go of the political correctness (and fear of backlash for not being particularly PC with him) that was holding my creativity a little bit hostage, but I started finding him far easier to write. Now he's my favorite to write for, and easily one of my favorites in the show!

Otherwise I think the only character I don't adore that I have written for is Clyde. I'm sorry guys, he's just such a sniveling little douche. I don't particularly enjoy writing for him, at least not more than any of the other side characters, though I actually did enjoy him in Not Suitable for Children so maybe I'll come around.

I've got this thing where I'm decently confident in my ability to write canon characters. There are times where I write them to be a little ooc or I lean into the fanon versions a bit.

But I've got a few people I follow on here where if they say a characters is a certain way. Then they are that way.

Like, I trust them fully! If I read in their tags that Butters favorite candy is smarties, then it's law. Butters favorite candy is smarties.

Okay, yeah, romantic love is great and all, but I also want friends who would drive each other to a 24-hour convenience store at 3:00 am when the other called them because can’t sleep or woke up from a nightmare or some shit and just... roll with it. Hear the other person out if they want to talk about it and help distract them from the issue at hand if they don’t. Help them load up on snacks and sodas or coffees and just go back to their car and sit with them in an empty parking lot, illuminated only by streetlamps, as they stuff themselves with junk and play shitty radio tunes. And then, if the other person falls asleep, turn the radio down and drive them home. If not, then they stay up together and then wake the whole friend group up at, like, 6:30 to come over to one of their houses to play video games. And the rest of the friend group doesn’t question it a bit. Doesn’t fuss over whoever looks obviously upset because they know it won’t make them feel better. Instead, one of them threatens to kick their ass at Mario Kart with a teasing grin because, unless they want to talk about it, this is just a normal hang-out. And everyone in the friend group just understands this because they’ve been friends for what feels like forever and this is just the kind of thing you pick up on after a while, right?
