🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?

I was going to say, ahh, well, I cheat at things and don’t write for characters I find tough to write. But I find Margaret Houlihan hard to write and have been doing her a lot lately. She’s tough because you have to keep her interior monologue straightforward: Margaret doesn’t like words, she likes action, emotion. It’s hard to keep paying attention to that.

🦋 Which character is your favorite to write?

Well if recent months indicate anything, probably Hawkeye Pierce. (probably it’s always been Hawkeye who’s my favourite!) How much fun, to write a character who loves wordplay and silliness and wit, is well-read enough that you can throw literally anything into his dialogue as a literary allusion, and can honest-to-god make a speech and capture room. He canonically speaks for paragraphs at a time and then goes silent again for pages. I love Hawkeye. I tend to write him largely in line with my own interior monologue, and no one has ever complained.

As well as him, though: Hilary Tamar. Hilary (gender unspecified) is the main character of a series of detective novels by Sarah Caudwell, which come up as a yuletide fandom every year and I love them and I love writing for Hilary in particular, but it is impossible to explain why without an example. Here is me, writing in Hilary’s voice:

💌 Is there a favorite trope you like to write?

SADNESS. No, that’s not true. Actually, it’s Star Trek and daemon AUs. I’ve done about ten Star Trek AUs, all for fandoms that aren’t an obvious fit (my favourite ones are the MASH one, the West Wing one, and the Big Bang Theory one - yes, I had a weird time in the summer of 2014 and wrote a lot of Big Bang Theory fic without ever seeing the show, it was bad, it was a bad time, but it’s a good story). The daemon AUs are fewer but just as tropey, again my fave is the MASH one but the Star Trek one is also good fun.

I also love a five-things fic and am always unhappy they’re now well out of fashion. My last two have been “four things that never happened to Jonathan Sims, and one thing that never happened to everyone else” and “five times Aziraphale attempted to tempt humanity and failed, utterly and completely, in service of God’s plan”.

I can't think of anything I make that's "my recipe" off the top of my head. I'm a HUGE potato fan so I do a lot of potato dishes. I make these roast potatoes that are just cut up into bite-sized pieces. I give them the olive oil, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, other fave seasonings treatment and then spread them on a baking sheet, grate parmesan cheese over it, and bake at 375F until tender. It's been a bit since I've made them so I wanna say like 30-45 mins because I really don't remember and I'd rather give you an overestimate than an underestimate.

I have made nothing in particular over the week. Baked chicken, mashed potatoes. Etc. I'm craving something chocolate though so I'm thinking brownies are in my future.

I don't want to give you the wrong decision but I think Part 1 was the most devastating and spoiler/not spoiler it is planned to only go up from there overall (but will still have some angsty bits in it). Since Part 2 is posted, I think it lessens the blow of Part 1. It's totally up to you I won't be offended. Part 3 is partially written but I'm having a long family weekend so I'm sorry to say I might not post on Monday. I think it's clear I'm probs not posting today either :(

ahh hi! i can’t express how much of my daily serotonin comes from your blog posts, i love seeing people with highly niche interests like my own <3

tent flap - of course, the age old debate, and i certainly appreciate both characters for their differences… but if im taking sides, i have to go with bj. first off, and most obviously, bj is much more fleshed out than trapper, and therefore has more of the flaws and little quirks that make an interesting character. second off, i love analyzing bj’s character arc from his first introduction as a mild-mannered, all-american devoted husband to s11 bj who is flawed, jaded, selfish and dressed to the nines to spite the army- it’s just so fascinating to see how he basically has a negative character development that works in the context of the show. oh, and he did leave a note (sort of, this is up for debate in my head) so he gets like 0.5 bonus points.

fatigues - this story is so embarrassing oh god. basically ive always had an affinity for old television, and one of my faves is the carol burnett show- i saw carol was in the four seasons, so i tracked it down to watch, and became utterly infatuated with alan alda the moment he came on screen. cut to me realizing he was on mash, which i’d heard about on metv since i was a kid, and starting the series (basically because i was really attracted to him) in july. i fell in love with it and the rest is history :)

springtime - this is a tough one but i think i have to go with season 8 because it contains some of my all-time favorite episodes (period of adjustment, dear uncle abdul, april fools, and of course, the best episode of all time, 8x22 dreams) - the characters are also really hitting their stride in terms of character development around this season too 

cesspool - oh, i know this is so specific, but like, the feeling of chlorine on your body when you get out of a pool? i can live with it, but it irritates me to all ends

I Created From Fantasies (Exist Solely For You) (MCU canon divergent.) Comic book office AU. I originally meant to have a full sixteen weeks to write this one, but ended up accidentally signing up to the Avengers reverse bang, and spent six weeks banging out "Even the Light is an Illusion", and was left with much less time than I wanted to scramble and try and get out my originally intended chill summer project in one piece. Holy heck, I was scrambling right up until the deadline, do not recommend. If my artists weren't the incredibly chillest, most talented people, and immoral-crow wasn't so awesome, I'd have folded like a cheap table. It turned out better than I hoped it would, that's forever sure.

Story You Were Nervous to Post:

Unveil my Unsightly Heart (MCU). I didn't have a real outline, and I ended up having to write 20k+ of it in a week because Iron Man 3 came out and I had the bright idea to make it compliant. I had no idea if I'd managed to make anything decent at all.

How Do You Choose Your Titles:

Usually steal them from quotes or song titles. My upcoming Big Bang has a hilarious story behind its title, because it existed as WORMS for more than a couple of weeks... and now it still is. Just not the worms some people think it is.

Do You Outline:

I do most of the time. I'm developing my outlining as I go along. It's definitely a process I'm getting into the rhythm of. I much prefer to have an outline.

you know what that means? it means it’s time to show some love for Reputation. ahh this album. this album is beautiful and powerful and emotional and ahhhhhh. @taylorswift said that this album was cathartic for her, that she had to get some intense feelings off of her chest before she could go back to who she used to be. alright i’m gonna talk about every song on the album so buckle up.

ready for it: wow. this song is the perfect opener for an album. it’s upbeat and i can jam to it while dancing around my room or driving down the road. this song is romantic, but in a sense of, “are you ready for the rumors and the hate and everything else that comes along with dating me?” this song is the best opener of any of her albums so far in my opinion.

end game: wow how do you say underrated? this song is so great! but because it’s “rap” it gets a lot of hate. but this is a song that i can imagine playing at a homecoming dance and everyone going crazy for. i mean: future is so perfect for this song. and ed has a beautiful voice. and taylor’s parts? they’re sung so beautifully and written so beautiful? an underrated bop.

idsb: i mean come on. bad bitch power song of the century. it is the most badass song and it is so feminists and hippy and we get to hear taylor swear which is always an added bonus. i mean “if a man talks shit than i owe him nothing?” you know who wrote this? a queen.

don’t blame me: aw i love this song so so much. i mean it’s powerful and strong, and the music is so pretty and her voice sounds so perfect throughout the whole song. and the song really showcases her voice. i mean y’all about some iconic high notes. and it talks about how the media always makes her out to be the bad guy in relationships and stuff. “they say she’s gone too far this time.”

delicate: ah the iconic track five. this song is so perfect. it is raw and vulnerable and it shows the fear and anxiety that switches on and off in relationships. the relating of the “isn’t it” shows some anxiety in relationships. and the “do the girls back home touch you like i do?” showcases some confidence that also comes with relationships. but it’s so beautiful. also 123lgb

lwymmd: i have to admit: not my favorite song off the album. but it’s is a bad bitch power anthem. i mean the beat in the back? and her vocals? so good. i don’t love the studio version, but on tour, when the beat drops? iconic. and karyn is our eternal snake queen. this song is the epitome of the rep era i think.

so it goes: honestly one of taylor’s most sexual songs. but it’s so freaking beautiful. “gold cage hostage to my feelings” is a beautiful line. the beat drop in the chorus is beautiful every time i hear it. and the part where she says “you did a number on me but honestly baby who’s counting?” and then whispers 123. that is my favorite thing on this album.

gorgeous: first off @taylorswift is gorgeous, and so is this song. i mean come on it’s perfect. the iconic dings of the triangle? taylor’s dancing during this song on tour!! this is actually one of my faves from your because of the part where she introduced all of her dancers and singers? like that’s some humble queen shit. ah i just love her. and the original lyrics always give me chills

getaway car: ahh i stan this song. i mean wow. this song deserves to be a single and it deserves a music video. it gives me actual chills it’s so good. it any just be the last breakup song we ever get from taylor too ;)

komh: beautiful? perfect? soft? also not soft? “salute to me i’m your american queen” ah wow i love hai song. and the way she says jaguars? gets me every time. also the bridge is great.

dwoht: talk about beautiful. it’s beautiful acoustic and not. ah it’s so good. “deep blue but you painted me golden.” i mean that’s some lyrics right there. this song is amazing i love it wow.

nyd: this song is when the tears come out. i’m not sure why haha. it’s just so raw and emotional. its so hopeful and emotional. it’s perfect. the first live performance on jimmy fallon after his mom died? that brought me to tears. i specifically remember crying during that haha. and the idea of mashing it up with long live is perfect.

okay now let’s talk about the tour. because it needs to be talked about. when i went, in Indianapolis, i had purchased the tickets myself. so i wasn’t able to get good seats, i was actually in the top deck. i was upset because it made me feel like less of a fan, but i know that’s not true now.

this tour won awards. it was huge. it showcased taylor’s amazing stage presence and her vocals and wow i’m so in awe of the work she did on that tour. the idea of surprise songs and acoustic songs and a cage soaring across the stadium and the light up bracelets and the little moments with taylor of her just talking to us one on one. after the tour movie came out, i saw tweets about how this tour made people swifties

this album is iconic. period. no other words.

Ahh there are so many n I’m always rediscovering them ~ just yesterday I got some Arnott’s Tiny Teddies they were one of my fave childhood snacks 🥺🧸 they’re little cookies shaped like teddies in honey, chocolate and chocolate chip flavour 🍫🍯🍪 an actual meal would be this beef stew with mashed potatoes and peas my mum made us when we were little that is so wholesome n tasty it makes me think of cosy winters 🍛~ but there are so many more

Lemonade: what’s your favourite summer memory?

Hmmm this is also so difficult to pinpoint one, I think going camping up north with my family in Mangawhai, it’s a beautiful place with a gorgeous black + white sand beach, we own a little section of land up there surrounded by pine trees and the smell of them always makes me so nostalgic.  After The End

Summary: It's the summer after seventh year, and Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and the rest of the wizarding world must learn to live without fear. This story was written prior to the release of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

This was THE fic for me, like the end-all, be-all of Harry/Ginny fics. It was the first fic that came to mind and pretty much if I could only recommend one fic, I’d rec this one. One of my all-time favorite moments in anything is when Ginny and Harry are talking about Seamus & Lavender’s wedding vows and Ginny accidentally says she would promise to outlive Harry. UGHHH I have wanted to reread this fic for years, but it is so so long. Ah screw it I just looked up that scene and *dies*

The Unrecorded Hours

Summary: Katniss and Peeta in the weeks and months after the war.

Simply amazing. Perfect fleshing out of how Peeta and Katniss “grow back together.” I just reread the whole thing oops. Reading this gave me such closure on The Hunger Games that I didn’t end up reading much fic after this. Yep this is pretty much canon for me. Also so much angst in this, which is not typical for me, but this is just spot on. Trigger Warning: thoughts of suicide, PTSD.

A Certain Sort of Magic

Summary: In which Howl suffers a unique malady, Sophie feels perfectly invisible, Michael is thwarted, everyone is thoroughly dramatic, and there may or may not be a wedding. 

I went through a brief Howl’s Moving Castle phase after I read the books and this fic just stuck with me. Funny, emotional, perfect characterization. A good fluff fic to follow up the angst from the previous fic in this list. I wouldn’t call myself a huge Howl’s Moving Castle fan, but apparently I had a bunch bookmarked (more than Gendrya; I don’t understand, I really don’t) and this one always stood out to me.

The Most Fantastic Beast

Summary: Only a few days old, Newt and Tina's daughter wakes in the night. Newt is there to soothe her. 

What pure adorableness this is. Like yes I am a sucker for kidfic and oh this is just so sweet.

Everybody Loves Newt Scamander

Summary: Newt Scamander and the people (creatures, beasts, I'm pretty sure I can put anything sentient here) that get drawn into his life. A series of ficlets from different character's point of view that may, at some point, be connected or have a plot but as yet do not. Also Pickett. Quite a bit of Pickett.

Um, hilarious, amazingly well written character study of Newt through everyone else’s eyes. And yes “quite a bit of Pickett” is accurate—Pickett is amazing and what a way to look at Newt as a character. I mean I’d rec this just for the Pickett chapters alone.

And The Next

Summary: Jyn looks to the disappearing horizon and thinks, ‘The Force is with me, I am one with the Force. The Force is with me, I am one with the Force. The Force is strong with me, I am –’ Jyn wakes up in her Wobani prison cell, panting and a scream dying in her throat.

Where do I even begin, I love this, this is my favorite rebelcaptain fic of all time, one of the first I read and I was blown away. The characterization, the writing, the plot, the agony of having to live that day over and over… ahh it gets me. Like it had me at Groundhog Day AU, really, but then just the execution, A++++. Love. This. Fic.

Kindred

Summary: “I left the next-of-kin space blank on my enlistment form,” she whispers, taking the datapad from his loose grip, logging in with her own restricted access codes. Draws up her contact forms, and gives it to him to place his name. “I’d like that.” He brings up his own next. 

Love the next-of-kin bit, and like I said, I’m a sucker for kidfic and this one gets there eventually. This remains one of my rebelcaptain faves. So sweet, so beautifully written.

Summary: Jyn is four years old when it appears on the inside of her left arm: a long, twisting tangle of flowing lines and blocky symbols... (Soulmate AU)

Wonderful, wonderful soulmate AU, follows the events of Rogue One with the twist of them being soulmates. I love it.

You Must Remember This

Summary: Six months [since Scarif], and Jyn and Cassian are at an impasse. She thinks he knows everything about her, and she doesn't know anything about him. 

Great characterization in this, both Cassian and Jyn. It’s got fluff and angst and just like, I love love the main point, like what does it mean to really know someone? And it’s just Jyn getting to know Cassian’s background and falling in love with him and also learning things about herself and it’s beautiful.

  Good Game

Summary: Last spring, Jyn Erso and the Gryffindor Quidditch team lost the final to Cassian Andor and his Hufflepuffs. Today, Jyn is getting her rematch, and she is determined to win.

*incoherent fangirling/ranting about the perfection of this fic* *starts over* OKAY SO this fic is such a perfect blending of the two loves of my life, Star Wars and Harry Potter. From the characterization (and House choices, A+), to the rivalry/tension between Jyn and Cassian, to the excitement of the Quidditch match, to Seeker!Bodhi, I was consumed with pure happiness the entire time I read this. I’m also going to cheat and sneak one more fic in and rec Luctor et Emergo, which is sorta like an expanded version of this and equal perfection of Harry Potter/Star Wars mash up.

Okay so I’m not really sure who hasn’t done this yet and who wants to do it but I’m going to tag @magalis, @latinaspitfire @lustfulpasiphae @yavemiel and anyone else who sees this and wants to do it bc I think we all love fic recs and I know I’d love to see everyone’s :)

So, here’s my thoughts on issue 167. Thoughts about comic Andrea and comic/tv Michonne. Caryl. comic Richonne. etc.

Wow issue 167! One of the biggest issues of the comic series. Andrea died! She died like what anyone hoped for by being surrounded by loved ones in a safe place. The issue was like a movie..written and shown so beautiful and sad. Inspiring and ended in a good note. But, the more I thought about Andrea’s death, I’m like ehhh ofc Kirkman. It was like manpain-death and poor Andrea fans didn’t really get much of Andrea being Andrea. Instead Andrea was mostly pushing Rick to keep going..like it’s all about Rick. I’m surprised it happened. I still don’t know why it happened and why during this part of the story. I guess we will find out more. Seems like it’s unplanned..or bad writing from Kirkman and he wants Rick to bond with widowers-Negan and Dwight. More thoughts of Andrea’s death here.

About TV Michonne...  So, I ship comic Richonne and hope they will become canon. If comic Richonne do become canon, I can see TV Michonne living on as she adapts on comic Michonne. So, with that theory, I kind of think it’s a slim chance to happen. I mean it means that comic Richonne have to be canon and comic Rick and Carl’s stories don’t change much after Andrea’s death. It just depends on the story and the situation. Like what if comic Rick’s story is now about being widower like Negan and they bond, and Rick goes crazy with his leadership. How does that work in the TV show(season 12) and with Michonne? So, that’s why I think it’s a slim chance of tv Michonne living during this part of the story. But, so far I see some posts that changes my mind. Like Andrea’s death could be remixed to anyone (different couple) or no one. In issue 167, we did see comic Richonne bonding already and the issue ended Rick being stable..ready to lead his group again.

“The thing is they don't need to kill off Michonne. The whole purpose of Andrea dying was to show Rick he can move on without her and keep living, except tv Rick already knows that, he told Michonne himself“

 Also, a lil theory I have.  If TV Michonne does mash up with Andrea(personal/romantic side) and, then later on with the new issues of comic Michonne, then maybe her quote “We’re the ones who live” (based on Andrea’s “We don’t die”) will come up with comic Michonne later on in the comics, but similar and different to it. The quote “We’re the ones who live.” have more meanings than Andrea’s. Maybe comic Michonne will say “Keep living.” Or, something cool. idk lol So far people liked the quote from comic Michonne. “I’ll always be here for you until I’m not.” So, then tv Michonne is saying her quote that goes with comic Andrea’s and comic Michonne’s.

Sigh. I would be so disappointed if TV Michonne dies during this part of the story.(s12) Because then it’s like saying she WAS always following comic Andrea’s all along. ugh. No. Michonne is not comic Andrea. ...she’s MICHONNE. It’s kinda sucks...I just want TV Michonne to be herself. I also hope she doesn’t adapt so much from comic Andrea ..and from after All Out War. (comic Andrea didn’t do much...) Even if the TWD TV show was ending in like s12, then I still don’t want MIchonne to die. Okay..my faves live! 

Caryl doom...Anyways, I believe if the TV writers want to do a death during this part of the story, then it for someone with who fits well with the situation in the story. So, if the TV show is ending soon, then I’m alright with having Carol to die. And, it’s Daryl who is grieving and is like comic-Dwight-pissed-off and mad at Rick (or whoever) then Daryl gets killed too later on. OK I sound contracting. Also my predictions for the next issues of TWD comics, is that Dwight will die too. (Andrea and Dwight’s deaths = Caryl deaths) It’s just one of my theories...that Caryl die at the same..and only toward end of the show like the last season. Because I don’t wanna see one keep living without the other. Also, I think a lot of main characters will die in the end. I don’t think Caryl will live all the to the end-end. Anyways..... :| (idk it could be Rosita who dies there or no one. Remixes from the comics and speculating is hard ok)

About comic Richonne in 167... OMG the talk in issue 167. I wondering about the ‘kitchen talk’ that Richonne had in issue 147 and wondering what Michonne will think of it then. Read my old post here. Callbacks! I really liked Richonne’s talks in 167. It really showed that they’re best friends. TBH, I was kind of surprised Michonne was in it a lot in the issue but she’s next closest person to Rick. They’re “best friends.” Like duh..ok. So I think we will see a lot of comic Richonne like as we usually do or perhaps more. I’m just glad to see them interact and I hope they continue so. Also, about what Michonne said to Rick in 167, is that it reminded me of Negan and Rick’s talk. I think Rick’s fear/guilt ..that about him living when people he care about die before him. Then Michonne said something that Rick needed to hear. It’s a cool callback.

I’m really curious what comic Richonne will do later on. TWD comics are my guilty pleasure..and I really enjoy comic Michonne, the Grimes, and Maggie. I have so many ideas of what might happen later on in the comics. I just have to wait. ahh I think there will be a civil war plot coming and if there is one, I really hope there’s no foreshadowing of the fall of Richonne, but Richonne sticking together.

About shipping comic Richonne... Most of the time I hope for comic Richonne to be together but sometimes I don’t know. I don’t trust Kirkman’s writing much haha. He writes romance weird. I’m afraid hehe will might mess them up and stuff but.. whatever. 

It’s interesting that after issue 167, some comic Richonne shippers or fans who used to read the comics, they really don’t want comic Richonne to happen because they think comic Michonne deserve better and think Kirkman sucks and all that. They don’t want Michonne to be Rick’s second choice.

 I understand what they’re saying and respect that. But, I don’t see it that way... or I don’t think it will happen that way. I hope if comic Richonne happens, it would seem genuine and respectful. So far, I think it’s about Rick and Michonne growing up and getting over their issues on some things . Then they’re ready for love ..this new strong love they can have. I keep thinking about comic Michonne, who went away on a boat and dealt with her guilt and her issues. She came back and had heart to heart chat with Rick and recently in 167. I think comic Michonne’s misery arc~  had ended. I think she doesn’t feel guilty about her daughters. She’s ready now to stay still..and not feel miserable as before. Idk about Rick...he had a good relationship with Andrea, so maybe he will have another good (but more mature) relationship with Michonne, but it will be different and they’ll die old together. Also I hope Michonne to be a mother again. IDK, I have these hopes for Michonne, but TWD comics is Rick’s story. Either way, I hope for good comic Richonne interactions for a long time.
