Spicy question for you after seeing the one about Lori 👀: What if Andrea had lived? Do you think TPTB would have went forward with Richonne? One the one hand, Rick and Andrea hadn’t developed a relationship as of her death and we know Gimple had (subconscious?) plans for Richonne. On the other hand, those plans could have been because he knew Andrea wasn’t long for that world and a lot of development can happen in 2.5 seasons (assuming the timeline remained the same). And if I’m being honest, the absolute UPROAR that would have occurred if Richonne happened while Andrea was still alive would have been something! Rick and Michonne definitely had more chemistry from jump but I don’t think they would have had the guts to make that big of a change but *Kanye West voice* “I guess we’ll never know.”
Ooh thanks for asking. I love 'I guess we'll never know' cuz it's very true. 😌 Any alternative scenario that some out there might've wanted will always have to just be hypothetical because Richonne and their epic love story is forever the reality of this TV franchise.
And the way I see it - even if Andrea, Lori, Jessie, or any of these ladies had lived, Richonne is still inevitable. But I definitely had to write out more of my thoughts on your questions below. ⬇️😊
First; I just have to say thank goodness things played out the way they did, because if the show tried to put TV Rick and Andrea together it would have been giving dry. 🏜 That scene in season one, when Andrea asks Rick about if she can take the necklace for her sister, seems to be one of the rare times the show even really attempted to hint at a potential romance between them. And I'm glad they scrapped it quickly. Lincoln and Holden played off each other best when Rick and Andrea were more genuinely at odds imo.
Tumblr media
You're right about how the Richonne uproar would have been even more out of hand with Andrea still alive. 😟 Even if people thought TV Rick and Andrea had no romantic chemistry or disliked TV Andrea, there'd still be people irate that they didn't put them together anyway just to be comic-accurate (or really just to ensure Rick ends up with a blonde woman of his race no matter what.)
If Andrea had lived and still had her history of being with Shane and The Governor, I personally don't think TPTB would put Rick and Andrea together, even if they didn't put Rick and Michonne together. Or at least I hope they wouldn't, because it would just be way too messy to feel rewarding if Rick and Andrea got together after all that. Like they'd really be pairing Rick with yet another woman who preferred Shane. 😕 Rick deserved more than that.
Tumblr media
And he got so much more too. 😌🙌🏽
Tumblr media
I could see there being a bit more fear from TPTB to pair Rick and Michonne together with Andrea still alive tho, simply because of the response from certain parts of the fandom. But I still stand by my Richonne is inevitable belief. So even if Andrea was alive, I'm choosing to think they still make Rick and Michonne a couple. Even before it was officially in the works, Richonne is what the story so clearly and organically wanted.
Plus, Andy & Danai's chemistry as Rick and Michonne is too undeniable to overlook, so it almost would be more trouble to pretend like those two characters aren't soulmates than it would be to put Rick and Michonne together romantically like they're meant to. These looks and more are just not the type of things that happen between two people who strictly stay besties forever. 👌🏽
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, I'm just very grateful that Richonne was in every way destined to be a reality. 🙏🏽

TV/Comic Death Comparisons
Otis
• In “Save the Last One” Otis is left to be devoured by walkers after being shot in the leg by Shane Walsh.
• In the comics, Otis is devoured by walkers in the Prison. He is put down by Rick Grimes after reanimation.
Sophia Peletier
• In “Pretty Much Dead Already”, Sophia is revealed to have been bitten by a zombie and reanimated, and is later shot in the head by Rick Grimes after reanimation.
• In the comics, Sophia is still alive.
Dale Horvath
• In “Judge, Jury, Executioner”, Dale is disemboweled by a walker on Hershel's farm and mercifully shot in the head by Daryl Dixon.
• In the comics, Dale dies much later during the group's conflict with the Hunters, after being sustaining a bite from a walker. He is shot in the head by Andrea before reanimation. His death is similar to that of Bob Stookey from the TV Series.
Shane Walsh
• In “Better Angels”, Shane is stabbed to death by Rick Grimes, and is shot in the head by Carl Grimes after he reanimates.
• In the comics, Shane's death happens much sooner, roughly a day after the attack on the Atlanta camp. Instead of being premeditated like in the show, Shane's attempt on Rick's life is a “spur of the moment” event, brought on by Shane losing his mind due to several factors. Unlike the show, Shane is shot in the neck by Carl Grimes. After discovering that people reanimate regardless of the circumstances of their deaths, Rick travels to the Atlanta campsite to put Shane down, shooting him in the head.
Lori Grimes
• In “Killer Within”, Lori dies during a C-Section giving birth to Judith Grimes. She is shot by Carl Grimes before reanimation.
• In the comics, Lori survives giving birth to Judith, and isn't killed until the Governor's second assault on the prison, when she is shot and killed by Lilly Caul. This also results in the death of Judith, who is crushed by Lori's corpse, unlike the show where Judith is still alive.
Andrea Harrison
• In “Welcome to the Tombs”, Andrea is bitten by an undead Milton Mamet, whom Philip Blake stabbed and left in a room with a tied-up Andrea. Rather than die from infection, Andrea chooses to take her own life by shooting herself in the head.
• In the comics, Andrea dies much later during the war with the Whisperers. While leading a giant heard away from Alexandria, she is bitten on the neck while saving Eugene. She eventually dies from infection and is stabbed in the head by Rick Grimes after she reanimates.
Hershel Greene
• In “Too Far Gone”, Hershel is decapitated by Philip Blake after Rick refuses to vacate the prison. In “After”, he is put down by Michonne, who stabs him in the head.
• In the comics, Hershel gives up on life after his son Billy is killed during the second prison assault. He is executed by Brian Blake, who shoots him in the head.
Philip Blake
• In “Too Far Gone”, Philip is stabbed through the back by Michonne Hawthorne, and is later shot in the head by Lilly Chambler as he lay dying.
• In the comics, Brian Blake is killed by Lilly Caul, who shoots him in the head and kicks his body into a group of zombies.
Gareth
• In “Four Walls and a Roof”, Gareth is hacked to death by Rick Grimes.
• In the comics Chris, Gareth's comic counterpart, is brutally slaughtered by Rick Grimes, Andrea, Abraham Ford, and Michonne Hawthorne.
Bob Stookey
• In “Strangers”, Bob is bitten on the shoulder by a walker. To spare Sasha from watching his slowly die, he decides to walk out into the woods, where he is knocked out by one of the Terminus remnants. He wakes up, only to discover his leg has been eaten by the Termites. When Bob reveals he's been bitten, Gareth decides to return him to the church. He eventually succumbs to infection in “Four Walls and a Roof”, and is put down by Tyreese Williams before reanimation.
• In the comics, Bob is a former army medic living in Woodbury, who patched up the Governor after the latter endured brutal torture at the hands of Michonne Hawthorne. In the novel series, Bob continues to serve as the town's doctor following the second prison assault until his death of a heart attack. He is then put down by Lilly Caul before reanimation.
Tyreese Williams
• In “What Happened and What's Going On”, Tyreese is bitten on the arm by Noah's zombified brother. His arm is sliced off by Michonne to stop the infection from spreading, but Tyreese dies due to blood loss anyway. He is stabbed in the head by Michonne before reanimation.
• In the comics, Tyreese dies sooner, during the second prison assault. He is decapitated by Brian Blake after Rick refuses to vacate the prison. His zombified head is later stabbed by Michonne Hawthorne. His death is similar to that of Hershel Greene from the TV Series.
Ron Anderson
• In “No Way Out”, Ron holds Rick at gunpoint after witnessing Rick hack off Jessie's hand to save Carl. He is stabbed through the chest by Michonne, which causes him to reflexively fire his gun and shoot Carl's eye out.
• In the comics, Ron is devoured by zombies when he starts panicking and making too much noise. Carl's eye is accidentally shot out by Douglas instead. His death is similar to that of Sam Anderson.
Abraham Ford
• In “Last Day on Earth”, Abraham is picked by Negan Smith to be executed. Negan smashes Abraham's head with his baseball bat, Lucille, off-screen.
• In the comics, Abraham is shot in the back of the head and through the eye with a crossbow bolt fired by Dwight. His death is similar to that of Denise Cloyd.
Glenn Rhee
• In “The Day Will Come When You Won't Be”, Negan Smith smashes Glenn's head with Lucille after Daryl attacks him.
• In the comics, Glenn's death is similar, but happens under slightly different circumstances, as Glenn is the one who is chosen by Negan to be executed.
Olivia
• In “Hearts Still Beating”, Olivia is shot in the face by Arat as retribution for Rosita trying to kill Negan.
• In the comics, Olivia dies much later during the conflict with the Whisperers, when she is decapitated by Alpha.
Carl Grimes
• In “The King, the Widow, and Rick”, Carl is bitten by a walker while taking Siddiq back to Alexandria. In “Honour,” Carl shoots himself in the head after saying goodbye to his friends and family.
• In the comics, Carl survives the entire duration of the series.
Paul “Jesus” Rovia
• In “Evolution”, Paul is stabbed through the heart by an unnamed Whisperer.
• In the comics, Paul Monroe is still alive.
Alpha
• In “Walk With Us”, Alpha has her throat slit by Negan, who then decapitates her and brings her head to Carol. Her head is later recovered and put down by Beta.
• In the comics, Alpha's death is pretty much identical, although the circumstances of her death are slightly different. Negan doesn't lure Alpha away by claiming to have captured Lydia, but she instead approaches him after banishing him to sleep outside the Whisperers' camp. He also brings Alpha's head to Rick instead of Carol. In addition, Alpha's head is not known to have been put down afterwards.
Rosita Espinosa
• In “Rest in Peace”, Rosita is bitten on the shoulder and succumbs to the infection. She is then put down by Eugene before reanimation.
• In the comics, Rosita is one of the pike victims.

“OLD MAN CARL”
due to a comment on another of my carl grimes post i realized that a lot of people don't know much about comic carl grimes and how many amazing things we missed due to the series director not wanting to pay chandler what he deserved.
for starters, (in my opinion) one of the most iconic covers of a the walking dead comic, old man carl
Tumblr media
in case you didn't catch the references or call backs to known characters, let's break some of them down:
rick grimes's sheriff hat
Tumblr media
michonne's katana
Tumblr media
negan's bat, 'lucille'
Tumblr media
daryl dixon's (or dwight's, bc daryl doesn't exist in the comics fyi) crossbow
Tumblr media
andrea's (or in the tv show, daryl's) poncho
Tumblr media
there's something so cool about him surviving everything and carrying certain things to remember his loved ones or the victory of his enemies. I would've loved to see this play on screen, missed opportunity fr.

Things from TWD Comics that have Mentally Scarred Me
*note: I have never actually read the comics, all of these are things I found online despite having no intention of finding out anything about the comics, so sorry if some stuff is wrong or left out.*
Andrea and Dale dating (this one isn’t horrible, but I still get grossed out because I can only picture the actors from the tv show)
Judith being crushed to death after Lori is shot
The group of bandits graphically attempting to r*pe Carl (who’s like 10 - aka season 1 Carl, which is horrifying to think about!) to the point where they get his pants off, as well as them outright saying to Rick “we’re gonna fuck the boy” (ew, ew, ew!!! And I thought the show version of this scene was bad!)
The governor repeatedly r*ping Michonne & her revenge on him
Negan bashing Glenn’s head in
Negan threatening to let his men gang r*pe an 11/12 year old Carl (even if it is a bluff)
Lydia licking Carl’s exposed eye socket (and the fact that they dated at all, since she’s 16 and he’s 13, but I’ve already ranted about that in another post)
Alpha letting the whisperers r*pe their women, including her own daughter (geez, there’s a LOT of r*pe in this comic, I get that it’s the apocalypse, but what the hell??)
*I know this list is kinda short, but these are the worst ones I could think of off the top of my head, maybe I’ll add more later, but probably not*

after exhausting the youtube supercut and the onedrive with all the clips, i went all the way back to michonne's eps pre-prison and can i just say i yelled at my tv when andrea asked her 'have you ever trusted anybody?' 3 eps before she meets rick and the gang. honey you've got a big storm coming etc etc
Listen, listen. The way a huge chunk of the structuring of season 3 works specifically to shepherd Michonne to her future family and specifically tie her to Rick and Carl??? (And in direct opposition to the way the comics introduced her to the narrative.) LIKE. I can't.

Hi Lexi :)
What is your opinion on other TWD media? - mainly the comics and the TV series? If so, do you have any favorite characters from them or is there anything in particular you like about um? Or do you like the telltale game only?
Tumblr media
i have not read the comics mostly due to lack of time. and ive heard conflicting things about them so i havent gone out of my way to read them
but i HAVE watched.. most of the show. had problems with it but it did get me to cry a few times. the beth and daryl stuff comes to mind. carol and daryl too. and i didnt even like daryl at the time 💀 also the early stuff with rick and morgan. i do love michonne tho :) i liked her and andrea. and her and carl becoming friends was sweet. and i liked how it came before her relationship with rick. her relationship with rick was boring tho 😔. like. it wasnt bad theyre cute but like.. i was expecting it to have more prominence i guess. i watched it last summer so my memories of the earlier stuff that was actually interesting is hazy
i pretty much binged it until season 7............... negan killed the show for me i hated him so much. such a carver but with the attitude of a 14yo boy on xbox live. insufferable. it then became a slog and i gave up like halfway through season 10. and i only made it that far because i wanted to know wtf was up with the whisperers. actually the first episode of S10 with the introduction of them was like... The Best episode i had seen from the show since before i lost interest in it. but then it immediately went back to shit. because every character was forced to relive the same arc over and over again like they were trapped in a fucking time loop. and apparently thats STILL HAPPENING????? saw an ad the other day for a new rick and michonne thing. please put this show out of its misery
i at the time wrote some draft posts about my opinions but i deleted all of them except for one it seems. carls death was my breaking point and i didnt even love his character or anything
Tumblr media
i Have heard that in the comic its rick who dies instead of carl which like.. the comic gets points for that at least
watching the show retroactively raised my opinion of seasons 2 and 3 of the telltale games and i had a really good laugh about it at the time. but its true. even when i Was interested in the show it was like.. by a Thread. but it Did have good moments that i just kept hoping would come back. instead we got negan
do you ever think about how before the outbreak rick was a cop and lee was going to prison. an interesting difference. especially when it comes to the mindset of a main character. i much preferred lee

Two Topics
Boofy777:
Hello, this will be two parts on two different topics so please bear with me.
FIRST OF ALL, RED HAIR. It would seem that red hair = impending  death in the TWD universe, and here are the reasons I believe this.  First of all we have Sophia and her red haired doll, and of course Sofia passed away. Next we have Mica in S4 and the red haired doll she found in the cabin in The Grove named Griselda Gunderson.  As we know, Mica was killed by her sister, Lizzie. We also have the redheads Eric (killed in the Negan war), Frankie (Negans’s former wife, killed by the Whisperers), Daniel from The Kingdom (died in Negan war) Leah, whether a natural redhead or Daryl’s hallucination as a redhead, killed by Daryl himself.  And last but NEVER least, Abraham, killed by Lucille - and let’s not forget, Michonne saw a walker with red hair who looked just like him. Redheads just don’t fare well on the show.
I would also like to discuss the podcast for a bit.  Many die hard TDer’s have left “the team” over the last few years, finally reaching the conclusion that the original plan WAS to bring Beth back, but somewhere along the line, for whatever reason, “plans got dicked”, to quote Abraham Ford.  To me, the biggest argument against this idea is that EMILY HAS NEVER EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS THE CASE.
Laurie Holden, who played Andrea, has been very frank in a couple of interviews since Andrea’s death   that the original plan for her character was to remain with the franchise for at least eight seasons. She even said that she was supposed to “save Woodbury  riding in on a horse” and was “supposed to end up with Rick”, as in the comics.
Okay - so why hasn’t Emily stated this in interviews when the topic of returning is brought up?  It’s been YEARS now, so when people ask, why not say so?  Like, “Well I was supposed to come back, but …."  ??? I mean,  she could cite creative differences, conflicts with her music projects, anything at all.
And yet….she doesn’t.  She’s not even smooth about it, saying something like, "well in the zombie apocalypse, anything is possible, right?” Which would be true either way, since shows write people back in all of the time, this is all FICTION after all, so why is she so dodgy and uncomfortable when this is brought up?  What are your thoughts?
TWDMusicBoxMystery:
I heartily agree! You explained both of these very well. I’m super impressed with all the examples of doomed red heads you came up with (RIP all of them). Great connections there.
And I agree about them explaining it, too. I always make the same argument for the as-yet-unseen scenes they filmed with Emily at the white cabin during S5. Can sequences like that get cut? Sure. But when they do, they ALWAYS end up as deleted scenes or DVD extras. Furthermore, there was a man who owned the property and was allowed to take pics while they filmed, but was told he couldn’t post them until after the scenes aired on TV. He still has not shared those pics. And if the scenes had been scrapped, he would have been allowed to post his pics already.
So yeah, it all amounts to the same thing: Beth and those missing scenes are still in play, which is why the writers and everyone associated with the show are so tight-lipped about them. If things had changed, trust me, we’d know. Just as you said above. So, we’re definitely on the same page about this.
Xoxo! 🔔💝

So, here’s my thoughts on issue 167. Thoughts about comic Andrea and comic/tv Michonne. Caryl. comic Richonne. etc.
Wow issue 167! One of the biggest issues of the comic series. Andrea died! She died like what anyone hoped for by being surrounded by loved ones in a safe place. The issue was like a movie..written and shown so beautiful and sad. Inspiring and ended in a good note. But, the more I thought about Andrea’s death, I’m like ehhh ofc Kirkman. It was like manpain-death and poor Andrea fans didn’t really get much of Andrea being Andrea. Instead Andrea was mostly pushing Rick to keep going..like it’s all about Rick. I’m surprised it happened. I still don’t know why it happened and why during this part of the story. I guess we will find out more. Seems like it’s unplanned..or bad writing from Kirkman and he wants Rick to bond with widowers-Negan and Dwight. More thoughts of Andrea’s death here.
About TV Michonne...  So, I ship comic Richonne and hope they will become canon. If comic Richonne do become canon, I can see TV Michonne living on as she adapts on comic Michonne. So, with that theory, I kind of think it’s a slim chance to happen. I mean it means that comic Richonne have to be canon and comic Rick and Carl’s stories don’t change much after Andrea’s death. It just depends on the story and the situation. Like what if comic Rick’s story is now about being widower like Negan and they bond, and Rick goes crazy with his leadership. How does that work in the TV show(season 12) and with Michonne? So, that’s why I think it’s a slim chance of tv Michonne living during this part of the story. But, so far I see some posts that changes my mind. Like Andrea’s death could be remixed to anyone (different couple) or no one. In issue 167, we did see comic Richonne bonding already and the issue ended Rick being stable..ready to lead his group again.
I found this interesting comment from Youtube...
“The thing is they don't need to kill off Michonne. The whole purpose of Andrea dying was to show Rick he can move on without her and keep living, except tv Rick already knows that, he told Michonne himself“
Also, a lil theory I have.  If TV Michonne does mash up with Andrea(personal/romantic side) and, then later on with the new issues of comic Michonne, then maybe her quote “We’re the ones who live” (based on Andrea’s “We don’t die”) will come up with comic Michonne later on in the comics, but similar and different to it. The quote “We’re the ones who live.” have more meanings than Andrea’s. Maybe comic Michonne will say “Keep living.” Or, something cool. idk lol So far people liked the quote from comic Michonne. “I’ll always be here for you until I’m not.” So, then tv Michonne is saying her quote that goes with comic Andrea’s and comic Michonne’s.
Sigh. I would be so disappointed if TV Michonne dies during this part of the story.(s12) Because then it’s like saying she WAS always following comic Andrea’s all along. ugh. No. Michonne is not comic Andrea. ...she’s MICHONNE. It’s kinda sucks...I just want TV Michonne to be herself. I also hope she doesn’t adapt so much from comic Andrea ..and from after All Out War. (comic Andrea didn’t do much...) Even if the TWD TV show was ending in like s12, then I still don’t want MIchonne to die. Okay..my faves live!
Caryl doom...Anyways, I believe if the TV writers want to do a death during this part of the story, then it for someone with who fits well with the situation in the story. So, if the TV show is ending soon, then I’m alright with having Carol to die. And, it’s Daryl who is grieving and is like comic-Dwight-pissed-off and mad at Rick (or whoever) then Daryl gets killed too later on. OK I sound contracting. Also my predictions for the next issues of TWD comics, is that Dwight will die too. (Andrea and Dwight’s deaths = Caryl deaths) It’s just one of my theories...that Caryl die at the same..and only toward end of the show like the last season. Because I don’t wanna see one keep living without the other. Also, I think a lot of main characters will die in the end. I don’t think Caryl will live all the to the end-end. Anyways..... :| (idk it could be Rosita who dies there or no one. Remixes from the comics and speculating is hard ok)
About comic Richonne in 167... OMG the talk in issue 167. I wondering about the ‘kitchen talk’ that Richonne had in issue 147 and wondering what Michonne will think of it then. Read my old post here. Callbacks! I really liked Richonne’s talks in 167. It really showed that they’re best friends. TBH, I was kind of surprised Michonne was in it a lot in the issue but she’s next closest person to Rick. They’re “best friends.” Like duh..ok. So I think we will see a lot of comic Richonne like as we usually do or perhaps more. I’m just glad to see them interact and I hope they continue so. Also, about what Michonne said to Rick in 167, is that it reminded me of Negan and Rick’s talk. I think Rick’s fear/guilt ..that about him living when people he care about die before him. Then Michonne said something that Rick needed to hear. It’s a cool callback.
I’m really curious what comic Richonne will do later on. TWD comics are my guilty pleasure..and I really enjoy comic Michonne, the Grimes, and Maggie. I have so many ideas of what might happen later on in the comics. I just have to wait. ahh I think there will be a civil war plot coming and if there is one, I really hope there’s no foreshadowing of the fall of Richonne, but Richonne sticking together.
About shipping comic Richonne... Most of the time I hope for comic Richonne to be together but sometimes I don’t know. I don’t trust Kirkman’s writing much haha. He writes romance weird. I’m afraid hehe will might mess them up and stuff but.. whatever.
It’s interesting that after issue 167, some comic Richonne shippers or fans who used to read the comics, they really don’t want comic Richonne to happen because they think comic Michonne deserve better and think Kirkman sucks and all that. They don’t want Michonne to be Rick’s second choice.
I understand what they’re saying and respect that. But, I don’t see it that way... or I don’t think it will happen that way. I hope if comic Richonne happens, it would seem genuine and respectful. So far, I think it’s about Rick and Michonne growing up and getting over their issues on some things . Then they’re ready for love ..this new strong love they can have. I keep thinking about comic Michonne, who went away on a boat and dealt with her guilt and her issues. She came back and had heart to heart chat with Rick and recently in 167. I think comic Michonne’s misery arc~  had ended. I think she doesn’t feel guilty about her daughters. She’s ready now to stay still..and not feel miserable as before. Idk about Rick...he had a good relationship with Andrea, so maybe he will have another good (but more mature) relationship with Michonne, but it will be different and they’ll die old together. Also I hope Michonne to be a mother again. IDK, I have these hopes for Michonne, but TWD comics is Rick’s story. Either way, I hope for good comic Richonne interactions for a long time.

On one hand: I really wanna support my friends and read all their OC fics
On the other hand: my friends put their OC with a character I cannot ship with anyone outside of canon so I can’t bring myself to read it

I was wondering what you think would have happened to Michonne and Richonne if Frank Darabont had stayed. We know he wasn't going to do Rick and Andrea because he said so. Do you think he would have done Richonne or would he have made Michonne follow her comic counterpart? I think I would have hated that because some of the things they have her do in the comics I am not a fan of.
Thanks for this question! I wrote my answer below. ⬇️😊
I love reading pilot scripts and, to date, Darabont’s pilot script for TWD is one of the best I’ve ever read. He’s an extremely gifted writer with the filmography to back it so it would have been interesting to see where he would have taken TWD if he stayed showrunner. But putting Richonne together, I just don’t know enough about his vision for the future of TWD to be able to predict if he would or not. I think Andy’s championing of Richonne would end up being the big motivator to make it happen maybe even moreso than Darabont wanting to go that direction himself.
Regarding Michonne’s comic arc - I’ve never read the graphic novels but I’ve heard details about Michonne’s arc in them and I am super glad they gave TV Michonne a much different experience than her comic counterpart.
I think Darabont would have strayed away from Michonne’s comic arc and given her something fresh as well. When Danai thanked Andy for having chemistry with her so she didn’t have to do some of the stuff comic Michonne did, I very much understood where she was coming from.
I know there were certain choices that Gimple made during his time as showrunner that I wasn't a fan of, but something I really do applaud him for is seeing the vision for Richonne’s romance, planting the seeds as a writer when he wrote one of my all-time favorite episodes of television ‘Clear,’ and then bringing Richonne to fruition once he was showrunner. Some showrunners would have been inclined to overlook the potential there, but I'm glad he saw it and acted on it.
It really does mean a lot that Andy, Danai, and Scott saw and championed Rick and Michonne being more than partners in crime, but partners in love. Rick wasn’t just meant to lean on Michonne as an asset but love on her as a woman. And Michonne wasn’t just meant to integrate into the group but into Rick’s heart and immediately family. I’m grateful they knew that and that they made the absolute most of Richonne and their love story. 🙌🏽

I’m going all in - I love you and kisses, and here’s why
But this is my caveat: These are my speculations only. Do not come to me saying I ruined your mental health if this turns out not to be accurate. Yes, I’d have a good hit rate this season but I’ve also made horrific wrong guesses so take this all in the speculative fashion it is intended.
OKay, so a lot of people want to know what my thoughts are on if canon is going to happen, when, what’s going to happen in ep 14 etc. And it’s a complicated story, but the first thing I have to say is - the first step I start from is trusting Angela Kang.
I know, right? But this is the way I see it. Kang has taken the shit heap that Gimple left her and is trying to mould it into something that she wants, and more importantly that she thinks the audience wants.
This is backed up by the comments made by the new AMC boss saying they did lots of research into why the audience dropped, and what the audience wants. THAT for me is the MOST IMPORTANT key in why I think Caryl canon is happening. The show has so little left going for it with the loss of Rick and Michonne, and what Gimple did to the writing, and the way TV is and its age etc. They NEED to not piss the core, loyal audience off further. Not doing Caryl is doing that. Caryl is the most popular ship, that’s a simple fact. So yes, Caryl is happening and I think it’s happening now.
And all the things I thought at the start of the season still stand, in terms of the comments by AK and Norman. So yup, Caryl’s still happening.
SO, that said, HOW do I think it’s happening. Well I think 2 bits of the comic are key...
First, let’s talk “I love you”
To me it’s been set up all this season that Carol will eventually talk to Daryl, open up about everything and let him in emotionally. And then we get the information that episode 14 is called Just Look at the Flowers. So yup, I think that’s when it’s going to happen.
We know that it’s Daryl she’s going to open up to (not Lydia or Zeke) because we have Daryl saying “I’m the one you tell”, and saying he’s begging her to talk to him.
Just Look at the Flowers tells us she’s going to talk about Lizzie - the root of her self-hatred and pain. Something she’s never talked about since Tyrese swore her to secrecy.
This is foreshadowed this week as well with Glenn’s grave. Daryl feels responsible for Glenn’s death. He knows how Carol feels and is contemplating it. So it will come up as a topic, which it would when Carol blames herself for both Connie’s death and Lizzie’s.
She’s going to lay out to Daryl why she hates herself.
That is foreshadowed by the dialogue in this week’s episode. Lydia says “you hate yourself”, seeing right through her. And even more significantly, Carol asks Daryl if he hates her and he says “I could/would never hate you”. (Note this phrase as I’m coming back to it in a minute!)
I believe Kang is going to use the Rule of 3 with Carol’s self-hatred. It’s been brought up twice, the third time it’s brought up it’s resolved. i.e. the next time Carol says she hates herself, or that Daryl hates her, it’s going to be “fixed” because Daryl is going to tell her he doesn’t hate her, he loves her.
(I also think this scene may also resolve the Rule of 3 over Daryl liking Connie. Carol twice has said he likes Connie. If she brings it up again, he’ll correct her and resolve it)
Now, it may seem like I’m jumping the gun in thinking he’ll say he loves her. I mean, he can forgive her and show he wouldn’t judge her without saying that?
Well, firstly, we have the most basic obvious answer this week - he would never hate her. So that rules that out. As I said before, you don’t have the same conversation with the same outcome. So it has to take it to another level.
And then there’s this from the comics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TO explain, this is Carl - who had The Grove equivalent story in the comics - explaining to Lydia about when he told Andrea that he killed Ben (Lizzie).
Carl goes on to explain that when Andrea said I love you, he remembered his dad saying your parents love you no matter what, so this was the moment he started calling Andrea Mom.
Now this may seem a tenuous link here but let me explain. This scene DOES happen at the point in the comics we are at in s10, just after A Certain Doom, when Andrea dies. And yes I realise I’m bringing up the dreaded ghoul of a parent child relationship, BUT it is reversed here, with Daryl being mom. LOL
Because I think Kang is using this scene as basis for Caryl - Carol showing Daryl the absolute worst thing she’s ever done, and Daryl proving what he said this week, he could never hate her, in fact he loves her. Just like Andrea told Carl she loved him, and showed her love is unconditional. So this story is going to lead to Carol knowing Daryl loves her unconditionally.
But what about kissing?
Let’s for argument sake say well, i love you doesn’t have to be romantic love. And true, it doesn’t. Except for all the clues in the first half of the season (Carol’s dream, the ships on the bedding, Daryl taking her a flower etc). And also there’s this...
Now those of you who have been with me for a long time know this story, because I have been saying this for 4 - COUNT ‘EM, 4!!! - years! And by the law of averages, FFS, i must be right eventually.
Here’s the original post I made about it, in case anyone cares:
https://ikkleosu.tumblr.com/post/140064036369/lets-hop-on-the-delusional-train
This is me harping on again about the comic scene where Rick and Andrea get together.
Now, for whatever reason they chose not to use that storyline with Rick and Michonne. It comes from the Negan era, so yes it’s essentially past that point, but there may be a reason they kept hold of it.
And it does fit Carol’s story MUCH better than Rick’s... and it seems very likely Daryl and Carol are going to get some of RIck and Andrea’s comic stories...
So, what if this is part of the scene in Just Look at the Flowers?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Swap the genders, Rick is Carol. As we know, Carol is in this place now.
It’s believeable to imagine that after Alpha is killed by Negan, Carol feels lost. without that revenge, what has she got left? She’s empty and dead and doesn’t know how to go back to just living a life (as she mentions in this week’s episode).
Remember in the MSF Daryl says “It’s like talking to a ghost!” Possibly foreshadowing this conversation, and Daryl saying to Carol “Isn’t it time you came back to life?” before the smoochy happens!
Look, as I say, I could be wildly wrong on all of this but I am sure this is all leading someplace.
People have pointed out this is going round in a circle, more Carol torture, Carol’s arc begin rehashed. And they are right. It is, but I think it’s deliberate.
I think Kang is retelling Carol’s arc but giving it the ending either she always intended or AMC intended or something. But I believe she’s retelling it with the purpose of giving it the ending it deserves - resolution with Caryl, ending Carol’s misery.
@onedayyoujustchange summed it up:
Connie/Magna in the cave - Karen and David at the prison
Connie - Beth
Henry - Sophia/Lizzie/Mika
Zeke - Tobin
Left at the cave - banished by Rick.
It’s all coming round but this time Carol is going to be allowed to feel and forgive herself and move forward instead of papering over the cracks.

In one of your posts, you mentioned something about how the show introduced Michonne to the narrative almost being in opposition to the way it‘s done in the comics; I wondered if you could and would elaborate on that? While I have flirted with the idea at times, I have never read the comics so I have no idea 😅
There's a whole ass thesis in me about TV Michonne and how she was handled in contrast to Comics Michonne that I will never write because it would require rereading the comics and I love myself too much for that.
BUT suffice to say, in the comics she just sort of shows up and is there (and hypersexualized 🙃) and that's it. A huge part of the arc of season three of the show is establishing Michonne's character and using Andrea to (directly and indirectly) shepherd Michonne to Rick and company. It also ties her integration into and eventual acceptance by the group and the Grimeses directly into the overarching narrative of Rick's leadership and the dissolution of the Ricktatorship.
It's just really cohesive and well-executed character introduction and establishment of dynamics that both serves as a foundation for and foreshadows her eventual role in the group and in the Grimes family imo!

Haven’t you ever noticed that since TV Andrea died a long time ago (way earlier than she should’ve), some of her arcs were not shown or given to any of the characters? I know most of it was split and given to Michonne, Carol, and Sasha, but in the comic issue where Andra gets shot in the head but survived from it was never given to any of the characters currently except for Beth who seemed to have a fake out death literally to that from the comics. Beth must’ve woken up off-screen omg
Definitely. And I often wonder why more people don't pick up on this. I suppose maybe they do, but just figure they killed her off for real in the show? Because she had Andrea's scars, and then her body just disappeared. Even with the bits and pieces of CB Andrea's arc given to other characters, none of them were actually given her scars. And that's super suspicious to me. You'd think more people would go, "wait...didn't Andrea survive a gunshot wound to the head?" But alas, very few, outside of TD, do. And the ones who seriously consider it probably join our ranks soon after. Thanks for your thoughts. Xoxo! 👻😋
