love and war
pairing; gojo satoru x f!reader
genre; angst
wc; 3,6k
warnings; jjk manga spoilers
notes; i think its obvious the ending is a bit rushed but i still tried my best :/ got the motivation to write the ending but then lost it again...but i wanted to post it today so here it goes. would love to hear feedback on it!
it wasn’t meant to play out like this. no, he wasn’t meant to find out about it, not like this at least.
that was the last thing you ever wanted.
everything was going so fine, maybe too fine, but still, nonetheless, things were perfect between the two of you just this morning. how did it come to this?
he was looking at you, blindfold off, crescent blue eyes reflecting each emotion he held so so openly. the only times you saw him this vulnerable was when the two of you had talked about his past, his regrets, and what if’s. his eyes were full of adoration at that time, looking at you like you were a pure blessing from the heavens, an angel sent to save him from his drowning thoughts, to let him be himself.
but now, now they were looking at you with so much hurt, anger, regret, and oh so heartbroken.
you had seen, witnessed, first-hand what the receiving end of gojo’s furious gaze ended with. it wasn’t pleasant, that’s for sure, and you had sworn to yourself you would never be on the receiving end of it.
oh, how the tables have turned.
it was understandable why he was so mad; god knows you would be too. because you, who had delicately pieced back his broken heart and trust after the events of getou, had now broken it, by your very own hands at that.
how did it all come to this? you had no idea. you knew starting a relationship with him was wrong and off-limits from the very beginning, but the temptation had surpassed your rationality just like eve when she bit the apple. you never thought you’d fall this deep down the hole, so deep that you forgot–no, ignored your true mission.
to monitor gojo satoru and sukuna’s vessel and kill them when you got the order.
it was last year when the head sorcerers in england had given you this mission. if gojo was unbeatable and unrivaled in japan, you were the same in england. perhaps your curse technique wasn’t as strong as his, but it was versatile and a very reliable technique.
after itardori yuuji became the only sukuna’s vessel, japan wasn’t the only country sour about the thought of it; in fact, it had caused a panic in europe as well. and as england was the country that ruled the jujutsu world in europe, you were assigned with monitoring the vessel and the owner of the six eyes. they wanted their eyes and hands on the boy with the infinity.
but you befriending everyone there, joking with the curse himself, and becoming lovers with the one and only gojo satoru was definitely not how you planned for things to go. it spelled trouble from the beginning, getting close to the shaman who had an ego and power rivaling the gods. but, unfortunately, you were now too deep to just leave without explaining everything to him, and even hoping for a chance that he’d forgive the lies you fed him throughout your times together was a little farfetched.
how could you make him believe that everything you said was genuine, and out of true love? the answer was you couldn’t because the betrayal in his eyes was enough for you to gulp down those hopes, taking a deep breath to prepare for the argument that was about to come. “look–satoru, please let me explain and don’t jump to conclusions.” you lifted your hands in front of you as an act to calm him down, walking closer to him with a futile attempt to hold his hands.
“explain what?” a laugh escaped his throat, one mixed with desperation and madness, “that everything between us was a lie? a mission for you? how do you plan on slithering your way out of this now, huh?” his voice rising with each word he was spitting out of his mouth.
you were desperately trying to keep up the expression that you had everything together, when in fact, you didn’t at all. your hands were starting to shake because you were scared of losing the man in front of you whom you were utterly in love with. the boy with the infinity held your heart in his palms, and he had no idea about it. “nothing was a lie, alright! i know how that document looked, and i can’t lie and tell you that isn’t true, but my love for you is–”
“keep those fucking lies to yourself y/n–you know, everyone knows already. megumi, yuuji, maki, even shoko–”
“stop cutting me, gojo! i know it might be unforgivable, but you have to believe me when i say i forgot about the mission. i love you, okay? i am undeniably and utterly in love with you, and that’s why i’ve been ignoring every call, every message they’ve been sending me about the task because i can’t do it!” you were screaming now, hands in the air, trying to voice out every single emotion you were feeling in that moment.
“well, it’s too bad that i don’t love you anymore! you know, i’ve known about this for a few weeks now and was hoping you’d open up to me about it, but–”
you froze at his last sentence.
“–you what? so you’re telling me that everything that happened in between us during those weeks was an act? all fake? you were just waiting for me to open up so you could what, break my heart in a more grand way?” now you had to give it to him, not only was he secretly smart, he was also a great actor who had you fooled for weeks now. the room was silent after your words, both your eyes staring deep into each other; you, waiting for his answer.
and you watched as he opened and closed his mouth, not sure how to answer your question. but you knew what that meant; with his hesitance, you had found your answer. breaking your eye contact, you looked down at the floors of the home you used to share; you could hear your heart shattering into millions of pieces with just the sound of his breathing.
“alright,” you whispered into the air. running your hand over your face, you leaned back against the kitchen counter. “so how will this go? are you going to let me go or are we gonna have a full-on fight right now? or is everyone already waiting outside the door to capture me?” you were doing your best to avoid eye contact, it was already too heard keeping your tears from falling, and you knew one more look at the eyes you loved so much would break you.
there was silence for a few minutes, but in your eyes, a few minutes was an eternity long. the fact that he was debating the question you left was heartbreaking already. but you weren’t afraid to fight; you had come to japan prepared for the worst-case scenario, and getting to know satoru up close, you believed you had a fair chance at winning.
“–im giving you twenty-four hours to leave this country. if you don’t–you know what’s to happen.” this had you lifting your head in the speed of lightning, eyes wide mouth agape, you could only watch as gojo satoru left your shared house without sparing you a single glance.
he was oblivious to how he carried your heart out the door when he left you stranded in the middle of the kitchen.
it was an hour after your discussion, and you were still in the same spot he left you. still standing, still too paralyzed to move. the reality of things being over was just starting to weigh on you, but you knew you had to start packing because not only gojo; but england was going to be after you too.
you failed the mission. and you didn’t plan on returning back.
war is a slippery slope. what would you do? becomes what will you do? becomes what have you done?
looking around the now-empty home, you built with gojo; tears started falling from your hallow eyes. so many memories resurfaced in one moment; it was overwhelming. the day your first saw him when he was trying to crack a joke at nanami to get him to smile. or the time he first asked you out admitting he had found you a force to be reckoned with and how you had managed to bewitch him. the day you accepted, the day he made you see stars behind your eyes from pure bliss. the day he proposed living together. the day you danced around the living room with his obnoxious music playing at the back, head laid against his chest humming to the melodies. how you felt like a family when you saw him and the students act so close–
how long has it been? how long have you been pushing your actual task behind the lies and excuses you fed yourself. was that person you? the ever so stone-hearted y/n breaking her facade for the boy with infinity.
my god, my god, whose performance am i watching? how many people am i? who am i? what is this space between myself and myself?
it was all getting too much. when had you fallen down the hole to never leave again? should you be grateful, or should you curse the fact that despite all misfortune, you can still feel love and unearthly love but still for earthly objects?
finally getting a grip on yourself, your feet moved down the hall to your shared bedroom, and without wasting a glance at his side, you quickly started to pack your stuff to leave japan.
gojo wasn’t doing well himself. he thought he had finally found true happiness after all the loss he had to go through, and it all turned out to be nothing but an act built on lies. after he left your shared home, he had wandered around in the streets with no destination in mind and the cold chilly air blowing past him. his blindfold was still off, the moon making his crystal blue eyes shine even more, still with unshed tears at the brink of it—a dam about to break.
he knew he lied to you when he told you he didn’t love you anymore and only hoped the years of the facade he had to keep up was enough to fool you into believing his words when in fact, it was the very opposite. he loved you so much–so much that it broke him when he read the document that was mailed to you weeks ago. you and him were an inseparable duo–the strongest and his tamer. the boy with the infinity and the girl who held him down with gravity.
upon wandering the streets for god knows how many hours, he found himself in front of a riverbank. the light of the moon was radiating, creating a painting of a million stories for the broken boy. but while being so engrossed with the view in front of him, he had failed to feel someone creeping up behind him; with his infinity down, nanami was able to lend a hand on his shoulder. “i’m assuming you talked with her.” he broke the silence.
his silenced gaze worried his friend; they promised to keep it between themselves. while nanami believed letting the kids know would be the better choice, gojo was adamant about keeping your good image in front of them. he knew how much they adored you, and he would hate to be the one to break it to them. “i did.”
“and what choice did you go with?”
“i gave her a full day to leave, and if otherwise–” he gulped down the lump forming in his throat, “–if otherwise, i told her i would fight her.” tears now slowly starting to trail down his porcelain skin, an odd view to see for his foes.
“you did the right thing.” nanami tried his best to console him in a way. this was a new image for him; he never saw gojo break down like this; the last time he saw his best friend (he would never admit that to his face, though) like this was when he had to kill getou, even then he had managed to keep up the aloof facade. but he knew his feeling for you ran much, much deeper than that. he has witnessed what your companionship had done to him. it was what pieced him back, and now what broke him.
it’s been years since you left, but you were back now. back in japan after two years of staying away, traveling to many different countries, on the runaway from the higher-ups in england. you would’ve preferred your return to be on good news and such, but unfortunately, it was the opposite. your friends back in england had informed you about how they planned on ending gojo’s life once in for all today with a team of experienced sorcerers, and although you wanted to keep away from trouble as much you could, you couldn’t let the man you love die.
with your hood covering your face, you walked down the streets of shibuya, the once war zone that led to many disastrous events in the past years under your feet. you heard about everything; the culling game and the capture of gojo satoru, thank god those were all in the past now, and everyone was well–except nanami, and the new had broken you. just like gojo and the students, he also had a special place in your heart, his calm attitude always grounding you. you don’t think his last thoughts of you were good–considering what gojo had told you the night you left, but still, his death was unexpected news to you.
you didn’t know how you were going to approach the topic; there was a big chance they’d attack you the second you entered their line of vision, not allowing you to voice out the news–but it was worth the try nonetheless. taking your hood down, you entered a cafe; the need for caffeine after the long flight back here was strong, the anxiousness and stress not allowing you to sleep. what you didn’t expect was seeing the three first years–now third years–you loved so much sitting in the cafe chatting idly, not noticing you. you wanted to keep it that way, but on your way out, a feminine voice called out your name. “y/n sensei? is that you?”
your steps halted, freezing in your stop. the confrontation was inevitable now, causing a stir in a crowded place was the last thing you wanted so you turned around to see nobara staring at you with wide eyes, megumi and itadori behind shocked just as her. what you didn’t expect was her running straight at your engulfing you with wide arms; a big grin plastered on her face. “where were you! you disappeared out of nowhere, and gojo sensei wouldn’t tell us anything! we were really worried; you left me alone with these two idiots–you know you’re the only one who understands my pain–”
“–i’m sorry, i had to go on an abroad mission, and it took too long. it’s good to be back.” you hugged her back tightly, still trying to process the new information she threw at you. gojo had lied, and that made you question everything you believed in. had he also lied about his love for you back then? but that was for later–for now, you wanted to cherish this news and spend time with your favorite students, learn about their well-being and their stories.
“come on, let’s sit shall we? we got lots to catch up on.”
it was now midnight, and you were waiting somewhere in the middle of the forest for your dreaded meeting with gojo. you managed to convince the kids into telling gojo to meet you here without actually letting him know it was you. they were excited, to say the least, talking about how you and he were the epitomai of soulmates, two pieces meant to find each other, filling up the gaping hole you both had. you were very nervous, fidgeting in your spot, hiding behind the tree waiting for him to arrive, and when you heard footsteps nearing you–you knew this was it, heart pounding like crazy.
walking out of your hiding spot, you slowly made your way over to him, hands stiff at your sides anticipating his reaction. “gojo.” he looked at you, blindfold on this time. still, you could see his displeasure from how his body stiffened at your voice, looking at you with a straight face. “what’re you doing here? i thought i told you to leave.” you sighed, walking closer to him, “i know, and i am going to leave again, but before that, i need to tell you something–” you were cut off by the powerful shake of the ground, throwing you off balance resulting in you falling to the ground.
behind you were your old friends from england, standing tall and mighty together–a force to be reckoned with; you were once one of them, but alas, that was the past. “thanks you leading us straight to him y/n.” elizabeth smirked looking at your fallen state, “you made things a whole lot easier for us.” she continued. looking back at gojo, you were surprised to see his hands locked in some type of chain. how did they manage to get past his infinity–unless he didn’t have it on in the first place. did let his guard down once he saw you? why would he do that?
“no, no, no– leave him alone, elizabeth! i swear to god i’ll rain hell upon all of you!” you stood up desperately trying to leave the makeshift cage your friend had put you in when a sudden idea came to you. it was risky, but it would save him, and that–that was all you needed, your purpose of coming here in the first place.
“lover boy is being quite over there. what is it? cat got your tongue?” she was taunting you and definitely enjoying it too. walking closer to you, she neared your face while the others were beside gojo, “you’re both fools believing you guys could be together in the first place, that’s how it works–” she was cut off by the stomp of your foot on the ground lifting a piece of rock–the one gojo was on, up to the air, away from your ex-friends. if you couldn’t save yourself, you could at least save him; apologize for your past mistakes.
from where you were, you couldn’t do much, but you used all your might to send rock flying in the air towards them meanwhile keeping gojo away from them. your cursed technique was called upon the tainted sorrow, the ability to manipulate gravity, and it was unrivaled in europe. you trained too much to reach where you were, the strongest just like gojo, but even the strong can fall, and all it takes is the blink of an eye.
you were on the ground again, but this time blood pouring from your insides, a deadly piercing through your abdomen. while you were so engrossed with trying to keep gojo safe, you hadn’t realized he was already off the piece of rock fighting the rest. and he had made the mistake of underestimating them, resulting in the struggle. but that distraction was enough for elizabeth to pierce the cursed knife through you.
one second you were on the ground; the next, you were in someone’s arms. looking up, you were met with the crystal blue eyes you had grown to love staring right back at yours. this reminded you of the moments where you used to lay on his chest, hands tangled in his snow-white hair, his hands keeping you tight against him, eyes staring at each other with nothing but love. how unfortunate things weren’t that way now. you bleeding onto his hands which hopelessly applied pressure to your wound in hopes of saving you, his blindfold now off, tears slowly caressing his face. it was a sight for the eyes. you lifted your hand up to cup his cheek, imprinting a red hand mark right where you touched him, “satoru–”
“save your breath, i called for shoko; she’ll be here any minute, and we can save you–” you silenced him with your thumb on his lips, “satoru, this was inevitable, even if you save me now, they’ll still be after me. it’ll be a never-ending cycle.”
“no, i can keep you safe, y/n. remember? it’s us against the world, baby. always has been and always will be.” he kissed your forehead, still keeping you close. his eyes were shut tight; he could feel your consciousness slipping away and knew he couldn’t save you. but can’t a man hope? and as you uttered your last words, body temperature turning cold, breathing stopping, he knew right then and there this was where he lost it all. this was how he lost the light of his world, in his own hands, between his arms.
“for what it’s worth, i love you, ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard.” and he knew those words would haunt him for an eternity. follow him wherever he went. the ghost of you will always be with him, never leaving. you will hold him down by gravity with just your soul. yet he still wanted to curse the gods for taking you away from him, his fresh breath of air, his anchor.
your love was strong, but the timing was wrong, and love decided that you both didn’t belong.

Milk Bread
Oikawa!Reader x Ushijima
a/n: bahahaha oikawa would literally disown yall though
anon request: Hiii if your request is still open could you also do an Oikawa's lil sis!Reader x Ushijima please~ fufufufu
ushijima and i could go get our own farm and have our own cows and horses and uggghhh
this entire,,,,, fiasco was an actual accident
it all started when you were so hungry that you ended up eating tooru’s milk bread
you were part of the girls track team in seijoh and competitions were starting soon so the team has been making practice mandatory during lunch as well
this caused you to only be able to survive off of snacks rather than your normal bento so you were blazing hungry when you got home
and when you are hungry, you go on a rampage
your brother was staying later practice so he wasnt home when you arrived
the fridge door almost unhinged and out the window by how roughly and quickly you opened it
the only thing in there was bottles of water and vegetables and you were not hungry enough to eat freaking raw onions
then you searched all over the cabinets for anything edible until you stumbled upon a clearly hidden milk bread
you guessed that tooru hid it bc he knew either you or takeru would eat it but heh, he didnt hide it good enough
finders keepers, right?
and as long as he doesnt find out it was you, itd be fine
you giddily opened the bag and ripped off a piece before smiling at how delicious it was
but this was cut short
you were so caught up in your happiness with the food that you missed iwa and tooru coming home until you heard your brother scream
‘Y/N-CHAN!’
your eyes flew open and you froze, mid-bite
his eyes were wide and his mouth was agape as he watched you scarf down the rest of the bag quickly before dashing upstairs
but tooru’s shout for iwa-chan made the buff guy snatch you from the hallway despite you kicking and screaming at him to let go of you
‘IWA-CHAN NO!!!!!’
you yelled but he just tightened his hold on you
‘i bought oikawa that bag, y/n’
you pouted then crossed your arms
‘you bought it for an oikawa, not a specific oikawa though’
so tooru ordered you to go to his favorite bakery, which was all the way out there like an hour away, and buy him a dozen bags of milk bread
‘TOORU YOURE GOING TO GET FAT!’
*offended oikawa*
‘I BURN ALL OF IT DURING PRACTICE ANYWAYS!’
‘hm, explains why you have no cake’
y/n stop thats so mean !!!!
but doorkawa though
so there you were, shoving all of the stock they have in the store into the big cart
if someone were to walk by you right now, theyd stare at the cart then at you weirdly for being a milk bread addiction
and thats exactly what happened
ushijima went to the bakery bc tendou won a bet and demanded a milk bread from this specific bakery
so he was entering the building, a single milk bread in mind, when he saw you, literally shoving all the bags down with an arm into the cart
he paused, like 5 feet away from you, just watching as you continued to take all the bags they had in stock into the cart
but he just wanted one bag so he went up to your cart and wordlessly took a bag which you saw and caught his arm
‘um, excuse me, what are you doing?’
he gave you a stoic face
‘i walked 30 minutes for this bag of milk bread. im sure you can leave one for someone else’
you were about to retort when you saw who this guy was
ofc if your brother was oikawa tooru, youd know his hatred for the apparent ‘farmer idiot’ ushijima wakatoshi from shiratorizawa
the familiar eyes and the furrowed eyebrows
yep, this had to be him
‘you,,,, ushiwaka’
he nodded
‘yes. now if you’ll excuse me, ill be going’
but you again held him back
‘ushijima-san! take this-all of this! i dont need it anymore!’
you pushed the cart in his direction before bolting out the store in a hurry
now ushijima is known to predict almost anything that came his way
but never has he even THOUGHT that a girl would give him a cart filled with nearly 50 bags of milk bread
the store lady pushed the cart to the cashier and only did he finally snapped out of it when she told him the total
‘oh, um, you forgot this bag too’
what was he going to do with all of this bread?
you pedaled your bike home and when tooru saw you empty handed, he started shouting
but you just faked a pout
‘ushijima wakatoshi-san took it from me’
his ears turned red
and all he could see was red
i see RED! rED! ooOOhH rED!!!!
he got his phone out and dialed a number before shouting into it
‘YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS, IWA-CHAN! USHIWAKA-!’
ngl, you didnt really think that he would completely forget about it but he fell for it
you planned to use tooru’s hatred for him and just a single utter of his name could completely brainwash him from the milk bread stealing situation
‘MAYBE HES GOING TO BUY ALL THE MILK BREAD IN THE WORLD UNTIL I GO TO THE DAMN SHIRATORIZAWA! WHAT IF HES DOING THAT?! IWA-CHAN-!’
the entire situation completely slipped your mind a few weeks later and you even forgot that you met ushijima and left him a cart of the treats
but that was quickly remembered
similar to your brother, there was one day per week where you have no track practice so you found yourself in their gym at wednesday, just waiting for iwa and tooru to finish practice
you were just busy doing your homework and trying to help kyoken with all of his missed work when kindaichi shrieked from the side
‘ushijima wakatoshi!’
JAPONN
at the mention of his name, everyone turned to him and followed his line of sight where indeed, the tall farmer boy stood at the door
oikawa tooru was so shocked to see him and his nerve to show up at HIS TURF that he didnt say anything
‘hello. is oikawa y/n here?’
then all hell broke lose
tooru was screaming at you in betrayal
iwa was shouting and hitting oikawa to stop and holding him back from lunging at you
the others were yelling at how you knew this famous player
while kyoken just sitting there all chill
‘you know that guy?’
‘uh-well-kinda?’
‘nice’
you quickly packed up your stuff, confused and surprised, before bolting down the bleachers to the door where you grabbed ushiwaka’s hand to drag him away from the gym where tooru couldnt find you
you finally stopped by an alleyway about a street away from school and turned to him with scrunched eyebrows
‘ushijima wakatoshi-san! what are you doing here?!’
you whisper-yelled
but he just unzipped his gym bag and handed you a bag of milk bread
you were so caught off guard that you just held it on your hands and stared at it
ushijima noticed your expression and pointed at the food
‘i have a lot of it at home. i figured you wanted one’
you slowly looked up at him
‘ushijima-san,,,,, i,,, why-’
‘you seem to like milk bread seeing your cart full of it. i thought you still wanted one and i need to get rid of all of it anyways’
‘but,,,, you shouldnt have come all the way to seijoh! nii-chan-’
then you stopped
wait, hold on
how did he even know your name
‘how do you know my name, ushijima-san?’
he blinked
‘youre a known track runner in the prefecture in both the girls and boys. a friend of mine wanted to recruit you for the school team but you turned it down’
you paused and chuckled
‘ah of course. i actually wanted to go but nii-chan considered it a betrayal so i couldnt go’
‘but you should’ve come to-’
‘SHUT UP USHIJIMA! AND STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM MY SISTER!’
tooru’s figure was panting a little bit away from behind ushijima and he was pointing at him heatedly
you sighed and face-palmed but you flinched when ushijima placed an arm around your shoulders and held you close
‘she has talents that could take her to far places. i understand that she refused it but you might have greatly influenced that decision and never asked her opinion about it. im here to ask her to re-think this decision and join us instead’
‘YOURE NOT EVEN IN THE TRACK TEAM IN THE FIRST PLACE!’
tooru raged and ran forward before grabbing your arm roughly to pry you away from the dirty touch of ushiwaka
‘we’re leaving, ushijima. and you better not talk to my little sister again’
he hissed and dragged you away but you turned your head and raised a hand
‘later, ushijima-san!’
‘SHUT UP Y/N!’
after that, ushijima knew to approach you in secret
you saw him by the gates after practice and you hurriedly hid him away from sight bc the moment someone saw that familiar purple jacket, theyd know immediately
‘ushijima-san! what do you want now?’
you whispered and again, he reached into his bag to give you a bag of milk bread
‘i need to get rid of them. and i also want to hear your opinions about joining shiratorizawa next year’
you laughed, softly clutching the bag
‘in truth, the bread was for nii-chan. and regarding next year, i dont think im leaving seijoh, ushijima-san, so sorry’
he nodded
‘i understand. but i do hope you will think about it, oikawa-san’
you cringed at the formality coming from someone as important as him
‘please, call me y/n. it sounds really weird from you’
‘okay, y/n-san’
‘no, just y/n’
‘y/n’
‘good’
then these meetings turned to another, then twice more, then everyday
it was becoming a routine at this point
track practice ended at 6, about 30 minutes before the seijoh volley so you could easily slip away from tooru, and ushi’s ended around 5 so he was able to meet you at the alley by your school
tbh, you didnt understand how you were meeting as such a shady place and you didnt understand why he would take such a long trip just to give you milk bread and ask you about the school
however, that soon changed
soon, you just talked about school and life in general while munching on food
he would occassionally talk about this first year goshiki and some setter shirabu and how they fought constantly
you knew a little bit of his best friend tendou and his dorm life back in shiratorizawa
he knew that you weren’t exactly in track for fun, but for scholarships since you werent exactly smart
part of you wondered if he used the dozens of milk bread in his house as an excuse to see you and make you eat them as compensation when he couldve just sent them back
yet eventually,
your conversations helped you know a little bit of each other without the title of fastest runner oikawa y/n or u-19 japan ushijima wakatoshi
‘tori accidentally broke a hurdle and sprained her knee so she had to sit out during practice. it was a mess because she was screaming about the pain and caused practice to end early’
you whined while chewing
he remained quiet so you turned to look at him, who was just staring at you
‘ushijima-san? you okay?’
‘waka,, toshi. call me wakatoshi’
you tilted your head to the side
‘i,, i can’t call you that, ushijima-san’
‘please, call me that. we’re friends, right?’
a genuine laugh escaped from you
‘oh dear. i mean, yeah, we’re friends, i guess. but nii-chan would not appreciate this friendship’
‘but doesn’t he like you having friends?’
he was confused as to why tooru’s even in the conversation
‘no, ushijima-san. i meant, he would not like me being friends with you’
‘why does he have a say in this?’
you paused
he was right
why did tooru’s opinion matter?
why did it matter so much that you’ve been hiding in this stinky alleyway with ushijima wakatoshi for a few weeks all because you were scared someone you knew saw you?
‘wakatoshi-san, do you have a brother?’
‘no’
‘hm, makes sense’
you laughed then looked away, straight at the dumpster that stood behind him a few feet away
‘my parents,,, are always working. even when i was young, they were constantly working so i dont really have good memories with them since they were rarely home. my sister, she was already in high school when i was born so the only person i really had was my nii-chan’
ushijima’s stare on you never wavered as he remained looking at you, inspecting you almost, the way your nose curved or your lips looked a little chapped or that crumb that stuck itself on the corner of your lip
‘he has always done everything for me,, in a way, he raised me and i appreciate everything hes done for me, yknow? and i want to repay him for all of that but im sorry to say this, but he doesnt exactly like you, wakatoshi-san. and me being friends with you, him not even knowing we’re meeting up like this, he would get very angry with me. and i dont to disappoint him’
you looked down at the remaining bread and softly sighed
it annoyed you a little that you cared so much for what tooru thought
why couldnt you live your life?
why couldn’t you just be your own person and meet people that you like?
‘we have only have 3 bags of milk bread left’
ushijima’s comment took you aback bc its not like you just told him something so personal or anything
‘huh?’
‘i need to buy some more’
you shook your head and waved your hands around
‘wakatoshi-san, i just told you, like, something really personal-’
‘but i dont care about all that though’
he blinked, confused as to why it mattered to him
‘what-’
‘y/n, havent you noticed that you’ve been calling me by my first name?’
his question made you stop and realize that you were saying wakatoshi
‘oikawa tooru is simply a person who helped raise you, he didnt make you nor does he have control over you. your life was given to you to live and create, not to be molded or shaped by someone else’
you nodded and patted his arm in appreciation, still awkward about having interactions with the guy
but he reached behind you and patted your back, averting his gaze forward
‘you have talent in track so i think you should keep running for a team that shares your skills. like your brother’s talents deserve to be played in a team full of undefeatable players’
you chuckled and shot him a confused glance
‘wakatoshi-san, youre over here telling me to do what i want yet youre telling me to do something else’
he seemed completely innocent to his hypocritical statement as he just looked at you
‘im just influencing you. theres a difference’
you shook your head and continued eating your bread, throwing the entire topic behind your mind
‘youre right, wakatoshi-san. we do need to buy some more milk bread’
little by little, you started to stray away from your brother
like you started coming home late and your wednesdays were now booked up with someone else
ofc he noticed and he went straight to iwa-chan to complain about it
by the second wednesday, he got fed up and actually cancelled practice which caused iwa to beat him up for stopping practice for something stupid
‘let your sister be, shittykawa!’
tooru pouted and rubbed the now sore spot on his head
‘somethings wrong, iwa-chan! i can sense it! shes hiding something and if its kept from me, of course i want to know!’
this led iwa to be dragged along with him as he followed you walking to somewhere
he remembered you getting flustered and smiling at him when you refused his offer to get ramen after practice with the guys
‘i have plans, sorry, nii-chan’
this caused oikawa to be very sus bc no tea, but he knows you dont hang out w other people outside school
so this led him to stalking you instead of talking and asking you like a normal adult
iwa was also there bc he lowkey sus and worried for your safety if oikawa does decide to lunge at your boyfriend
the two boys were huddled behind a car as you were just walking cheerfully, skipping every step
‘iwa-chan, she doesnt have a boyfriend, right?’
‘shes pretty and kind, it would be hard to believe she doesnt have one’
but as they continued to follow you, they started getting confused as to why you were walking in such an unfamiliar neighborhood
this wasnt exactly their turf and when they noticed a familiar looking uniform a boy was wearing as he walked down the street, oikawa almost busted a blood vessel
aw look at him tremble-
‘what in the ever-loving god of anime is she doing in shiratorizawa!’
he whisper-yelled
‘iwa-chan! is she transferring there?!’
‘shittykawa shut the hell up!’
you heard a familiar voice behind you and quickly turned around but saw nothing
you swear you heard hajime’s voice
but it couldve been just your imagination since you’ve heard him call that for nearly 6 years
you continued walking forward and you jumped to wave when you saw ushijima leaning against the school gates
‘wakatoshi-san!’
you greeted and he nodded, acknowledging your presence
‘y/n, you were late’
you giggled
‘why? did you miss me wakatoshi-san?’
‘hm, yes. the milk bread bakery is going to close in 15 minutes’
he said and held out his hand which you gladly accepted
tooru was basically strangling iwa by how he was so ANGY that his little baby sister was fraternizing with the enemy!!!
back on you though!!!
you still blushed when you held his hand but you knew there was nothing about it bc you ltr almost got ran over once
so basically,
you were finally opening up to going out in public w him as long as it was far away
and he suggested going to some ramen shop that they frequent at for some food
you were just walking side by side and humming a tune when you were interrupted by a loud honk that freaked you out and freeze
but ushijima, being a volleyball player and developing quick instincts, grabbed your shoulders and pushed you both to the side, away from the car
youve never had that experience before so you were quite freaked out and you were just hanging on to his jacket for dear life, hiding your face in it
he sensed your panic and placed a hand on top of your head to provide some comfort
‘its okay, y/n. dont worry bc ill always be there to protect you’
you turned red at that statement but ushijima was known to be very naive and he didnt understand that underlying suggestion in his words
‘thank you, wakatoshi-san’
you mumbled and he gently pried you away but he held your hand
‘this will allow me to pull you quicker and to make sure you dont wander too far’
you pouted
‘hmph, im not a child, wakatoshi-san’
he smiled, surprising you bc wowza was he showing emotions?
‘you need to be taken cared of, do you not? no matter what age, ill still look out for you’
to this day, he still kept your hand on his grip and your heart kept beating really fast
all these hangouts were really showing you the real ushijima wakatoshi that was so different from the court and you really liked it
from the strong and cold and cruel player to the awkward, funny, and naive schoolboy
he was an enigma and you were attracted to the remaining iceberg that maintained being hidden under the waters of his physical appearance
focusing on something else, you were tugging him along excitedly bc you forgot your bento at home today and you STARVED
‘lets get sweets!’
you cheered excitedly and with his hand still laced into yours, he looped it around your shoulders so he pulled you closer
‘semi told me he does this to his girlfriend when she gets too hyper’
um, sire, where did that come from?
from oikawa’s spot, he was starting to get hurt by how harshly he dug his fingernails in his palms while iwa was getting angry at how carelessly this farmer was handling his sister
but you werent bothered by his weird oblivious comments
‘im very hungry so we must hurry, wakatoshi-san!’
‘yes, yes’
unbeknownst to you, he kept looking down to observe your faces
when you would see a store, your eyes would widen and youd mumble about wanting to go there sometimes
when you saw a baby in a stroller, youd coo and unintentionally squeeze his hand
it was cute
and it made his heart jump every time
today was no different occasion
and he was finally able to put a pin into this weird action from his organ
lmao im so tired bruh im cackling as i type
earlier today during practice, he felt that jump when you whined to him about leaving your bento at home and expressing your excitement to get some food
that jump returned and he was so focused on texting you that he didnt notice his teammates watching him in shock
tendou even started hitting semi, confused and flabbergasted
‘ushijima-san,,,’
goshiki started but shirabu smacked him to be quiet
‘oh, i might not come to practice on friday since im going to the doctor’
the mention of the doctor, everyone freaked out bc they cant have their prized player injured or hurt
‘what,, whats wrong?’
semi asked and ushijima finally locked up his phone
‘im having weird random jumps in my chest and slight tickles in my stomach. google told me to go to the doctor if it persists so i made an appointment’
they all sweatdropped
goshiki uwu babie was biting his lip to stop himself from sobbing and thinking his senpai and rival was having an illness
but semi and tendou knew whats up
‘wakatoshi-kun, who were you texting?’
they all noticed the slight widening of his eyes and the sprinkle of light that shined through
‘oh, oikawa y/n. we’re friends now’
everyone shared a look bc he didnt really have friends outside the team and didnt bother himself with unnecessary relationships like these
‘oh god’
tendou mumbled and his grin widened
‘i,,im no doctor, ushijima-san, but i think youre experiencing the symptoms of a crush’
shirabu was basically the smartest than the others combined so when he said something like that, they believed him immediately
‘crush?’
ushijima wondered
‘dont tell me you dont know what that is’
goshiki muttered in disbelief
‘im familiar with the definition of the attraction to another person. but ive never experienced it myself’
yall why am i writing him to talk like this
‘youve been so busy with volleyball your entire life that you probably havent had time to actually admire the girls we have in school’
tendou reasoned so ushijima went to go wait for you by the gates and observed the females that passed by
nope, they all didnt strike him for anything
he just gave up until he saw you waving for him all enthusiastically and there it was
a simple glance at your smile and it leapt
it only got worse when you giggled and he clenched his fist to keep his heart from leaping out of his chest
the entire time, he felt it, especially holding your hand
to really be honest, he only did that after what happened and his mother used to do that to him to protect him from other cars
now that he had someone to protect, he was doing the same thing
you clearly didnt mind and just swung your hands along the entire time
eventually, yall arrived
the lady at the front was now accustomed by your appearances and she waved at you
‘hello ushijima-kun! oikawa-chan!’
you greeted her happily while ushi just nodded at her
your brother and his best friend decided it was best to stand outside to not garner suspicion ltr yall are stalking and everyone knows since the bell rang whenever it was opened
tooru felt his heart clench at the thought of you being on a date with this,,, !!!! farmer boy!!!!
the sister complex in this one is quite strong
it got even worse when he saw your giggling form and ushijima holding you close with your shoulders
next thing he knew, he entered the bakery and ripped you away from him
ofc you were surprised bc wtf why was here?
‘NII-CHAN?!’
‘oh, hello, oikawa’
^^ 2 types of people
‘didnt you hear me when i told you to stay away from my sister?’
he seethed
‘yes, i heard you. but i dont care’
‘wakatoshi-san!’
you whisper-yelled bc his answer clearly made your brother angrier
‘well, i need you to start caring bc you are not welcome to be a part of our family! i will never accept you as my brother-in-law! i will never visit! you hear me?!’
your eyebrows furrowed and you flushed in embarrassment
‘NII-CHAN! WE’RE JUST FRIENDS! WHAT ARE YOU SPOUTING ABOUT?! AND WHY DID YOU FOLLOW ME?!’
he didnt bother to hear you and started dragging you by the arm
but you wrenched out of his grip and ran to ushijima, who held you close
‘hes my friend, nii-chan. i dont care if you dont like him but hes nice to me and he hasnt given me any reason to not be friends. now try to be a grown-up for just a few minutes and leave me alone so i can go hang out with my friend and you go back home with iwa-chan’
you firmly stated, glaring at him and tooru felt sad at this entire thing
were you growing up?
despite only being a year younger, you were always that ran to him for everything bc you looked up to him so much
but now, you were refusing and becoming your own person
you were still his baby sister but now, you were a grown woman who could make her own choices
and he had no choice but to accept that
‘okay. but come back home soon, okay, y/n?’
tooru’s quiet voice made your expression fall and you made a move to go to him but he already made his exit
‘nii-chan,,,’
you mumbled but ushijima placed an arm around your shoulders
‘you can go to him, y/n. we can-’
‘no. im,,, happy that he finally realized it. so lets continue’
you smiled up at him and he nodded, going back to looking through the cupcakes
‘how do you think hed take it if he finds out i like his sister?’
he off-handedly asks to no one but you heard and jumped
okay, you were used to his random comments and questions but this one had to be the one that took you aback the most
‘H-HAH?!’
but he doesnt seem bothered
‘my teammates told me that i have a crush on you so if i were to act on that feeling, would you accept me?’
your eyes flittered everywhere and you grabbed him by the shoulders and leaned him down to his level
‘ar-are you seriously confessing to me right now?’
he shrugged, so nonchalant
‘yes. before getting your brother’s approval, i should get yours first. will you let me be yours, oikawa y/n-san?’
your face scrunched up and you nodded, pulling him in for a hug
‘i like you a lot, ushijima-san. like a lot’
he softly smiled and buried his neck in your neck
‘i noticed when you didnt care about your brother’s dislike towards me’
‘yanno, for someone who is so against us together, hes the reason we even met in the first place’
he pulled away and looked at you
‘really?’
‘yep. i told you this, didnt i? i came for milk bread yet left with a boyfriend’
‘over a span of a few months’
you rolled your eyes but still laughed
‘yes, a few months and nearly a hundred bags of milk bread later’
the old lady was watching the whole thing and only made her presence obvious when she squealed
‘OH YOUNG LOVE! GET ANYTHING YOU WANT TODAY, DEARIES! WE SHALL CELEBRATE THE BEGINNING OF NEW LOVE AND FOR MANY MORE!’
you and ushijima shared a look before busting out laughing, you freezing when you heard his chuckles
he noticed your stare at him and he asked you whats wrong
you shook your head before grinning
‘im already already looking forward to falling in love with you. so make me fall really hard, okay?’
you just unlocked blushy and flustered ushijima wakatoshi
when you went home that night with bags full of milk bread, your brother practically forgave you
but you accidentally blurted out of your new official relationship and you knew what he did?
oikawa screamed
a/n: sorry if i was gone for 2 days bc selling sunset came season 3 came out on friday !!!! but heres an update and i might post another later bc tomorrow’s my first day of school and id be too busy to update but id probably update in wednesday so feast on these in the meantime!!!!!!

Online Love. Yan Shigaraki x Reader [Part 5]
Shigaraki has never had a full grasp on understanding others.
It’s never presented itself as an issue before, due to his unique lifestyle that doesn’t require him to rely upon others to the same extent most do. He doesn’t need to bend himself to the will of others. If anything, people need to mold themselves to his liking.
There’s no place for coquettish remarks and hidden agendas for the people around Shigaraki. He wouldn’t care for it, and they’d be cut off without a second thought.
So where do you fit into that?
He doesn’t know himself. The black and white relationships that stay in neat, understandable boxes for him are all but wrecked by your presence. Where his underlings bite their tongue and present themselves to his liking, you feel no obligation to do the same.
You live as you please, speaking to him as you please. The rules he’s used to don’t apply to you, you don’t even know they exist in the first place. If anyone acted as you did towards Shigaraki, they’d undoubtedly be killed for it.
There’s a fondness that’s reserved solely for you.
Even so, he can’t help but feel aggravated at how you’ve been treating him lately. The past three days have been a miserable stretch, his mood taking a turn for the worst. Not due to anything you’ve said to him, no, but because of the opposite.
You haven’t messaged him in seventy-two hours.
This has never happened before, in the entire time he has known you. In the past three days you’ve not logged onto any of your games, responded to his messages, or uploaded on social media. He’s aware of the fact that you’re physically fine -- a bit of stalking ensured that nothing had happened to you.
A part of him almost wishes that was the case, so he could make sense of it. It would be undoubtedly easier to digest the situation, and he could get you out of the situation with ease.
But the aspect of the unknown is what troubles him the most. His mind wonders pathetically, grasping at any straws to make sense of why you’ve been living your life normally; just without him.
Staring at his monitor in the dim light of his room, Shigaraki grimaces at the blinking cursor in front of him. Coarse fingers hover over the keyboard, wanting so desperately to seek you out; but unsure of how to go about it. He wants to demand an explanation.
Were you really able to live your life peacefully without him? Did Shigaraki delude himself of the symbiotic relationship he once believed you two shared?
His teeth ache from the hours spent grinding together, neck raw from constant scratching. Sleep has all but evaded him, as he spent hours painfully waiting for you to come back to him. For things to go back into the routine he was used to.
Your absence serves as a reminder of how much he needs you.
Narrowing his bloodshot eyes, he abruptly stands from his trash covered desk and stalks over towards the door. How dare you ignore him, how dare you treat him like this! Did he mean nothing to you all along? Have you just been waiting for the chance to cut him off, having been secretly disgusted by him all along?
Fury masks over any secret feelings of hurt, Shigaraki intent on demanding Kurogiri to warp him over to you. He’d get an explanation one way or another. Even if he had to pry it from you. Staying idle any longer would surely be the death of him.
Before he opens the door, he hears the custom alert. The one that he had set for you, so he could always know when you were messaging him.
Shigaraki’s mind goes blank as he goes back over to his computer. He wonders if it was imagined, only to be disproved by a message from you on his screen.
From: [First] 2:06 AM
hello tomo-kun
That... that’s it? Mouth slightly agape from confusion, Shigaraki’s mind races with countless responses. Ranging from cruel words directed at you for ignoring him for so long, to inquiring about what even caused it in the first place. But none of them are typed out as he delivers an equally mundane response.
To: [First] 2:06 AM
Hey
Anyone else would’ve been facing the wrath of hell right now, but Shigaraki manages to contain himself. Knowing that you haven’t forgotten about him or discarded him was enough to momentarily distract him from his previous rage. Biting his finger nails that were already short from countless hours of similar activity, he awaits your response.
From: [First] 2:10 AM
i’m sorry that i haven’t been around...
From: [First] 2:11 AM
i’ve been having kinda a bad time lately with some stuff. but if it’s okay with you can we play some comp? i kinda just wanna take my mind off it. if you’re not busy that is
It isn’t concern that he feels, but an undying curiosity. If something major had happened to you, like a death of a loved one, he would’ve known about it by now. What could’ve happened that upset you this much that he wasn’t alerted about?
Shigaraki silently ponders to himself. Maybe he needs better scouts.
To: [First] 2:12 AM
Whatever you want, idm
An immediate response.
From: [First] 2:12 AM
thank u, i appreciate it
From: [First] 2:13 AM
aaa i feel so dumb. im sorry im sure i worried you. i just havent been in the mood to talk to anyone. its nothing like crazy or anything im fine, just some life stuff
Shigaraki’s never been the best at comforting people, as it’s a task that he’s never been given. He can barely take care of himself, much less anyone else. But in situations like this, he feels you’re supposed to offer something. Only for you would he stretch himself in this way.
To: [First] 2:15 AM
What happened
It might seem like a lackluster response, but to anyone who knows Shigaraki it would come as a surprise. People’s personal affairs have never interested him in the slightest, but you’re a unique case.
From: [First] 2:16 AM
wellllll its kinda stupid but ig it doesnt hurt to tell you lmao
From: [First] 2:17 AM
ive... ive had a crush on this guy for a long time. we’ve known one another for a few years, stuff like that. anyways i worked up the courage to ask him out and he got upset at me. saying stuff like im ruining our friendship. it was just really bad, and ever since then ive been on auto pilot
The word crush hits him like a ton of bricks. He’s incapable of focusing on anything else in that moment, as time all but comes to a stop. His breathing uneven, and hands shaky; he sits back from the light of his screen. Disgust isn’t the right word for it, it doesn’t begin to describe the barrage of emotions he’s experiencing.
You liked someone. You liked someone that isn’t him.
Even if he actually wanted to, he couldn’t fake a decent response to your message. All along he’s been under the impression that you may return his feelings. That all the little gestures meant you treasure him on the same level he does you, and that you would one day be his.
Hours spent daydreaming of you sweetly confessing to him come to mind, as his vision goes red.
It doesn’t matter how. He’s going to find out who this cesspool of human waste is, he’s going to savor tearing each limb from their body and take pleasure in his screams of agony. Shigaraki will take care of this individual personally, wanting them to suffer in the same way he has.
There isn’t any way you could like someone else. This all has to be a joke, a cruel prank with an eventual punchline. There’s no other way to make sense of it. No one else could be even remotely deserving of your affections other than him, and no one will ever have them if he could do anything about it.
He will figure out what to do with you and your betrayal later. For now, only this apple of your eye has his attention. Countless cruel ideas flood his thoughts like a tidal wave, a malicious grin breaking out onto his face.
Shigaraki will make them pay.

are you going to continue fic about taako's glamour??? because my dude it is JUICY AS HELL and i'm SO about lup (and/or anyone else) finding out
hi ohmygod i love your work and i literally cannot believe you read my fic?? you’re like, a very cool person and i totally freaked out when i first saw this ask??? thank you????
okay okay okay okay, hear me out. First and foremost, this is, perhaps, the most flavorful compliment i’ve been given and i adore it thank you. The juicy drama shall only continue.
also im splitting part three into two chunks, sorry not sorry, part four comes out tomorrow!
This was her first winter on Faerun. Lup had sort of lost track of how many holidays their new home had, but that was fine. She got firewood with Magnus, decorated how Killian showed her, rolled around in the snow with Mookie just to feel how cold it was. She’d had her body for almost eight months now, but every sensation felt so new.
“I’m told you’ve mastered Scorching Ray.”
She watched her brother retreat into the kitchen, Angus chasing after him. There were a lot of new things, she realized, when she couldn’t chase after him too.
Lup wasn’t stupid. Her brother was a world class liar but he couldn’t lie to her. At least, she thought he couldn’t. But everything was new and different now. The old Lup would have rushed in on that summer afternoon, pushed and prodded until Taako told her about every scar. The old Lup had never been as patient as Taako. He could hang back, wait years for the perfect opportunity if he had to, but Lup was made for action.
A decade in an umbrella had changed that. Now, she was patient.
Well, patient to a point. She waited while Angus left for school, waited while Taako got settled with his own school. She waited for months, had to be certain Taako wouldn’t bolt the first time she brought it up. She didn’t even bring it up today! Just hinted at it. She supposed it was foolish to hope he was forgetful in same way he had pretended she wasn’t perceptive.
So she had to wait. Again. That was fine, she tried to tell herself. The cheering had turned into drinking around the fire from the massive keg Merle and Davenport had brought, but Lup wasn’t really in the Solstice mood anymore. This wasn’t her tradition yet, still too new, just like everything else. Barry gave her a look as she passed by. She hoped her smile said enough, and it must have. He gave her a soft smile of his own, but didn’t follow her as she snuck in through the side of the house, not wanting to pass through the kitchen.
“You’ve been hiding a limp all day.” Angus sounded confident, voice echoing through the empty house in the same way he talked about his successful cases with the Neverwinter PD. Lup had planned to curl up in bed, but this… this might be worth waiting to hear. Taako said something, but she was too far away to hear it. Then there was shouting.
“It’s not bullshit when someone’s keeping secrets!”
“Watch your fucking language!”
Then Silence, powerful arcane energy that stopped her midstep, just before the doorframe of the kitchen. She saw Taako and Angus keep talking, but she couldn’t read their lips. The tension her brother had been carrying all day seeped out of his shoulders. Whatever was happening in there, she needed to wait to see its end.
She wasn’t sure how long she’d been waiting, but the spell started to crackle out of existence.
“I don’t want that. You shouldn’t even know about this. No one was supposed to know.” Taako sounded just like he did when he told her everyone was dust.
“You should at least tell Lup.” Angus said. Candlenights was late on the calendar this year, but Lup was buying this kid every Caleb Cleveland novel she could get her hands on. She’d kidnap the author and gift wrap them for Angus if she had to.
“I can’t tell Lup.”
A decade in an umbrella, a year of listening to her brother and not being able to say a thing; Lup had patience now, but only so much. Coming out from behind the door frame, she threw on a smirk she didn’t feel and finally rushed in.
She wasn’t really sure what she expected. Taako’s Dex mod used to be higher than hers and she was never really good at Stealth rolls anyway, so it was rare that she could surprise him. Even now, he didn’t jump, didn’t squawk and yell at her the way he used when she and Magnus could prank him. He froze and didn’t even look at her. He looked at Angus.
Lup thought she’d seen every emotion cross her twin’s face, the thousands of matching expressions they shared, but she’d never seen this. It wasn’t anger, wasn’t even surprise. He looked almost empty, filled with nothing but bone deep betrayal. She could almost see his “I trust no one and nothing except Angus McDonald” crumbling to dust in their kitchen and she felt sick.
“He didn’t know,” she said before thinking twice about it. There was a flicker of something and then the hallowed out look of loss was gone and Taako was smirking at her, make up perfect and a hand on his hip.
“Ooh, so you were eavesdropping?” He clicked his tongue a few times, shaking his head. “Davenport would be so disappointed you didn’t pay attention to his Boundaries In Close Quarters powerpoint from cycle seven.”
He was waiting for her to take the bait, to point out the only reason they had to watch the powerpoint that cycle was because of him. As the seconds dragged on though, she could see his smirk falter. The silence stretched further and she still couldn’t speak. Now was her moment, this is what she’d been waiting for! There was so much she needed to say and yet the only thing that came out of her mouth was a broken, “Taako.”
“Nope.” He turned right around, picking up a spoon and furiously stirring something.
“Sir, should I go…” Angus started but Taako just picked up the potato peeler and handed it to him without looking.
“You are staying right here and peeling those potatoes, Agnes.”
“Taako,” Lup tried to say something else but that’s all that could be said. She took a shaky step forward but her brother still wouldn’t look at her. “Taako, please, I know something’s going on.”
Uh-uh. I am not doing this today, Lulu. I know you’re new to this planar system but this feast is– oof!” She nearly knocked Taako into the counter as she collided with him, wrapping her arms around him in a crushing hug. “Lulu…”
“You’re soft. Need soft.” She murmured into the back of his sweater. When she first got her body, they spent days like this. Taako let her feel every fabric he owned, his softest silk blouses and his most scuffed up leather boots. She ran her fingers through his hair for hours. There were still some nights when she’d sneak into his room, shove Kravitz out of the way, and hold him close just because she finally could. She hadn’t had a bad night like that in weeks, but maybe Taako forgot.
“I can’t do this today, Lup.” He whispered, seeing right through her in a way she used to be able to do too. At least he didn’t push her off, slowly stirring whatever mixture he was working on for dinner. Angus had the peeler on a potato, but hadn’t moved.
“Tomorrow?” She asked.
The silence that followed, she could truly see her brother again. Angus must have seen it too. He relaxed and got through two more potatoes as they both pretend not to watch Taako run the numbers. Could he fake a school emergency tomorrow? What were the odds she’d believe he had the flu? Maybe if he Blinked enough times in a row, she wouldn’t be able to follow him. Anything to get out of this conversation. He slumped a little and Lup tried not to laugh. He couldn’t avoid her forever, they both knew it. At least not everything was new and different.
“Fine,” Taako surrendered. “But I seriously have to get cooking.” She didn’t move. “Are you just going to hang off of me all day?”
“Maybe.”
Taako gave a full body sigh, shuffling them together through the kitchen to put something in the oven. Angus laughed and Lup was pretty sure she could feel Taako smile. “Fine.”

Cute Dream Boy Artist
Davey had been working for three hours by now. He was tired and more than ready for lunch. But while working he was asked three times by different people if he was okay. Davey was distracted, his mind traveled to the boy on the roof. And to his dismay he couldn’t even remember the artist’s name. But he sure as hell could recite the whole conversation with the hole of not knowing his name. It felt ridiculous and how much attention the artist was getting from Davey but at the same time he felt like it was a dream. That he had a dream about a cute boy who had a nice personality and that he was just putting the pieces together wrong.
That night Les got his snack and Davey was determined that he would go to bed early so he could get to the orphanage sooner and find out about this artist. So he did, he went to sleep early and made sure that he went the same way from yesterday once he got himself ready for work. He sat there waiting he had hours before work started, waiting for this artist dream boy that he felt crazy waiting for Mostly because he wasn’t for sure that the artist was real.
Jack had took a bit longer shift that night, having a bit more energy after the cup of coffee he had plus longer sleep. He was planning to stay as long as he could but then he remembered about the drawing he hadn’t got to start the day before. So he clocked out when his extra hour was done.
As he walked back he didn’t expect to see Davey. But it seemed that Davey was waiting for him, or something close to that. Jack laughed to himself noticing that Davey was at the same spot from the morning before. Bike against the tree and him just standing there like a lost puppy.
“You’re … actually here?” he furrowed his brow and looked Jack up and down. Jack shook his head sighing, Davey was a mystery to Jack.
“Yep. Come on Davey, you’re work couldn’t start this early. We can sit on the roof” Jack told turning to the boy after he had opened the door staying open. Davey only shook his head in response.
“I barely even know you, I don’t even remember your name! Why would I go in there” Davey acted like Jack has asked him to sleep with him, over exaggerating seemed an under statement. to Davey’s reaction. But Davey hadn’t followed the ‘no talking to strangers’ rule so far. The only thing that seemed to be holding him back was that he didn’t know the place.
“Hm. And you made me think you were the kind to remember things. It’s Kelly, Jack Kelly.” Jack walked into the building, Davey waited for him to come back out but it didn’t seem to happen. For a second Davey was scared Jack had gone to sleep. Had he miss remembered again? Davey felt like he was driving himself crazy.
His worries were put aside in the next few seconds as he heard what he assumed was Jack getting onto the roof. Jack carefully walked down the roof till he got to the edge, which he sat at.
“Y’know it’s probably your rude sense of humor that made me leave so soon the other morning” Davey huffed, he folded his arms like a child. He felt weird acting like this but he waited for Jack’s response as he stood still on the sidewalk with bike setting against the tree.
“It’s probably your dry sense of humor that made me not go after you” Jack said simply, Davey hated how this felt like chess. He was trying hard to not get his king killed but that line felt like all that’s left was a check mate.
“I’m joking, but you deserve it. You come to where I live and insult me, it’s not to nice. But since yo seem to have amnesia I’ll forgive you” Jack told looking to Davey, it made him feel better that Jack didn’t actually think that. But at the same time he realized how rude he was being. Davey’s eyes widened as he realized how he acted.
“Well I’m sorry but I needed to know if the guy from my dream was real …” he trailed off thinking about how he spent most of the day before with Jack stuck in his head. Jack didn’t expect that, his face flushed and he stayed silent for a second.
“You had a dream about me?” It was Jack’s turn to have wide eyes as he fully realized Davey’s words.
“Oh my- Damnit no no. I- … yesterday after I started working I forgot your name so I thought it could have been a dream of a cute artistic dream boy or something. But you being here proves that wrong.” Davey tried to explain rushing through his words. Jack chuckled, his face still tinted pink but Davey didn’t notice over trying to fix his words. But Davey’s own face had turned red from the misunderstanding.
“So you thought I was just a cute artistic dream boy?” Davey opened his mouth to respond but he had no way to recover from that. Jack only took Davey’s silence as confirmation, Jack wasn’t wrong. He had completely accepted the fact that it could of been a dream of something he wish he had. He didn’t think now he knew it was real that maybe Jack might not like boys or that he was completely outing himself right there and then.
“Well nice to know we play on the same team. But I am sorry to say, we are basically strangers-”
“No no no. I mean yes, but I didn’t mean to and I do not like you. I had mistaken you as a dream but I am most definitely not crushing on you because as you said we are strangers.” Jack laughed at Davey’s sentence, Davey wasn’t the smoothest with words from what Jack had seemed but it made for a good laugh.
“Okay okay I’m done messing with ya Davey, you say we are strangers so let’s get to know each other. Let’s play two truths and a lie” Jack told with a sly grin. It was a game that after you knew someone was only good for fun facts about their life. But when it came down to knowing a good amount of nothing about someone, you can find out some pretty cool stuff without trying to hard.
“What’s that?” Davey asked cocking his head to the side, it seemed simple but he didn’t understand the objective.
“Davey Jacobs if you don’t know what two truths and a lie is we are gonna have a long morning” Jack said dramatically, but he was surprised that Davey actually didn’t know.
“I assume it’s where we tell two truths and … a lie?”
“Sorta, the truth and lie are about us so here let me go first. Um I have two jobs, I know all the names of the boys in this orphanage, and I like dogs. Now you guess the lie”
“Okay well I wouldn’t put it past you to get two jobs from what I do know about you so not that. You can’t not like dogs so, two is the lie?”
“One thing you shall learn about me is that I am more loyal to those boys then to my own life. So you are wrong, I just don’t like dogs that much.” Davey gasped in fake a way to try and look a offended.
“How dare you. I don’t even want an answer we’re moving on from your betrayal, I think I got this anyway. So, I have three sibling, I am 5’8, and I love Mexican food”
“Well Mr. Davey Jacobs I believe you are a Mexican lover, and you did say you worked for bills to say so I’m calling your bluff on being 5’8”
“You did it, I am actually 5’9 or 5’10 I don’t remember. How’d you guess so well?”
“It seems I can’t help but be’s correct” Davey rolled his eyes and laughed. This game sounded dumb but it did something to get them to know each other, but it also made time go by rather fast and he wasn’t comfortable telling his parents that he missed the bus to work because he got distracted by a new friend. It just wasn’t on the good excuse list. So he was fine when they continued talking. Davey only focusing on the time. Jack seemed to only care about talking, not the time or place. Even if that was the opposite of Jack’s initial intention, he had any other night to draw and would rather talk to Davey anyway.
“Okay okay I’m sorry Jack. I’m cutting this visit short. I’ve got work, go get sleep or something.” Jack only groaned, but he did suppose that if Davey did stay until the others woke up Jack would never hear the end of it. Davey got onto his phone ready to head off.
“Well I have work too so, sleep is a no no right now. See ya later dreamer” Davey shook his head, a small grin stuck on his face as he started peddling down the sidewalk. They both had a long day but it seemed a little it more worth it getting to spend time with someone who had to be awake just as early to work. It was comforting to be talking to someone rather than waiting for work alone.
