A Suspicious Change to the P5T Website

While thinking about the weird use of bios copied from P5R’s website for Sumi and Akechi compared to everyone else’s newly-written ones, I realised something had changed since my last visit to p5t.jp: all traces of the codename “Violet” have been removed. Below the cut are more details, and my speculation.

Pictured below is what Sumi’s profile looked like as of August 8th, captured by the Wayback Machine. Her description also mentioned her codename, and hovering over her picture showed it too.

And here’s what the page looks like now:

This raises several questions. Was the initial use of Violet a mistake, assuming that this is “Kasumi” before the 3rd Semester, with no codename? Or was it something we weren’t meant to see yet?

Two things are notable here. First, the name Violet being mentioned at all (and it’s still in the Nyahoo 3 video, which hasn’t been taken down or edited). During Royal’s marketing, she was always called Kasumi, with no hint of a codename. If the codename isn’t in P5T, why even think about it, let alone use it in promotional materials?

Second, there’s none of this new, conspicuous absence in the pages for Erina/Elle and Toshiro, who lack codenames. Where those would be, their names are used instead:

Why wasn't the same done for Sumi after they removed her codename? They could have replaced it with Kasumi...

With all that said, and my suspicion that ATLUS is hiding something reignited, it would be quite funny and somewhat ridiculous if "Kasumi" ended up spending the entire DLC without a codename. That idea is already giving me flashbacks of Navi!Crow's exasperated utterances of "Yoshizawa-san…”

Speaking of that, who even is the Navi for RPYH's campaign?

Having posed another question to confound myself, I'll end this post sharing my hope that we'll get some more information come TGS on the 20th. I think Akechi and Sumi character trailers will only come after another overview of RPYH.

I decided to write original fiction for the first time in ages and get inspiration for my characterizations of Vocaloid and UTAU

Vocaloid and UTAU have no canon personalities so any personalities I made for them are really much like having an OC. I decided to fully make them into OCs in the story

Anyway I just wrote an infodump about the story

If you’re a longtime follower of me you should remember some of the old OCs I’m featuring here

———Overview———

The story is inspired by the vivid dreams I have at night.

There is a wacky school where everything is surreal. Despite its whimsical magic atmosphere, it has many dangers and strict rules. Every day attending there is like a high-stakes adventure, or just plain strange.

The school is for people from the ages of 4 and 44. Groups are often divided by age.

The school is fun and wacky but also stressful and kinda awful. Life is never boring though. It’s just really crazy!

The school has an unfair hierarchy based on how many friends a student has. The more friends, the more perks. Outcasts? They get nothing.

The school lunch is cooked in a volcano, and the dishes have magical properties and very eccentric. Firework popcorn, anyone?

The classes cover all the bases. There there are even oddball classes such as “nap time,” where you get a failing grade if you can’t sleep that day!

Finally, if you miss the regular school bus to the dorm homes, you have to ride the Tragic School Bus, that takes “the long way home.” Chances are, you’ll be home past midnight.

Also, super-corrupt villains are totally not running the scenes the school and there’s TOTALLY NOT gonna be an arc where the students rebel against the school system. What makes you think that? :3

———Concept brainstorm———

Queen Rainbow is Queen of the whole School. (Don’t worry, she’s not a villain, she’s a student and she’s wonderful and eccentric and lovely)

The school is divided into 4 groups, named after the seasons. They are each ruled by monarchs named for the respective season. (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter.)

Each group is kind of like a school team or a like… a DND class, but I have yet to think and elaborate. Perhaps it’s like, the group that scores the most “school points” the previous month gets perks for the next month, and the worst one gets penalties.

Also I just think the concept of “four character attribute options” or whatever is cool and I would hate comparisons to the HP books

There are also rivaling school idol groups just for drama and shiz

Each of the 4 groups has a different student council since I like Seitokaichou characters, I just need to decide who’s on the seitokai

School cliques. There will definitely be drama

I plan on giving a lot of characters a spot in the limelight because this will be more like a franchise than a linear story or series…) (This also isn’t a bio list so I won’t be going into detail about their personalities here at least.) Amelie Sugar- She’s me and y’all should know her

Sumi Shimizu- Based on Haku Yowane, specifically Clarith in Daughter of White. Is albino with white hair.

Sada Oyamada- Based on Neru Akita. She goes by Oya so her ship name with Sumi can be Oyasumi which means good night. Has blonde hair

Joy Smiley- OC turned UTAU. Has chestnut red hair

Soyi- Based on Utane Uta, but as an only child. Has black hair

Kiri Takamori- Based on Hatsune Miku, more specifically Michaela in Daughter of white. Has clover-green hair.

Kasumi Takamori- Kiri’s little sister based on Chibi Miku-san. Has darker clover-green hair

Haru Asaga- Old OC from 2012. One of my first. Originally from my first series Nichijou no Niji. Has rose red hair

Rosa- Sumi and Amelie’s daughter from the future. Don’t tell anyone. Has pale pink hair

Rhona Hydra- Formerly Rhona Aequor, I changed her last name. OC who is also an UTAU with my voice edited. Has blue hair

Luana Kai- Chaotic pirate girl OC. Also an UTAU. Has dark teal hair

Rie Hibine- From 2012’s Nichijou no Niji. May or may not also be an UTAU. Has spring green hair

Nina Rivera- Side character from Nichijou no Niji who got her spotlight in a story about a cruise I wrote in 2013

Natasha Evans III- One of Nina’s friends from her cruise, from the 2013 story. Likes to be called Kitty.

Sasha Oddison- One of Nina’s friends from her cruise, from the 2013 story

Mora Oddison- Sasha’s little sister. 

Vivian Star- Originally a teammate of Joy Smiley’s in a story called Whimsy Quartet. Has yellow hair

Reisei Kiyone- That poet guy I created in 2015. He has a chronic illness. He was inspired by a dream I had when I fell asleep to Seiko-P (Vocaloid producer) music

Tamika Towa- Reisei’s best friend. Created in 2015. She and Reisei have become adults in my writing.

Sowon Moon- Reisei’s boyfriend… he is also kind of my male alter-ego. I kinda ship him with a lot of OCs too. I created him recently.

Kanade Yozora- Based on Defota. Oldest sibling in Yozora family. Has cool lavender hair

Shigure Yozora- Based on Defosuke. Second oldest Yozora sibling. Has indigo hair

Arata Yozora- Based on Utane Uta/Defoko. Second-youngest Yozora sibling. Has dark purple hair

Kiwa- Based on Koe Utane. Youngest Yozora sibling. Has warm lilac hair

Emiri- Based on Momo Momone with a side of Yui from K-on. Has red hair. 

Aimi- Emiri’s sister. Kinda based on Ui from K-on. Has magenta hair.

Yuiru- Based on Teto. Has pink hair

Seiya- Based on Ted with a bit of Momoraro vibe. Has pale pink hair.

Leimi- Based on Ruko. I’ll go into more detail because she honestly super cool. Kaoru’s outgoing younger sister. Has wild black hair with red and blue streaks. Loves mecha and those transparent sparkly machine and robot aeshetics. Loves Coke more than Pepsi. Kinda goth, kinda scene. Neon and rave aesthetic. Nightcore. Age 22.

Kaoru- Based on Rook. I’ll go into detail because he’s honeslty super cool. Leimi’s edgy older brother. Has wild black hair with green and purple streaks. Is a furry and likes sparkledogs. Loves Pepsi more than Coke. Kinda emo, kinda scene. Neon and rave aesthetic. Nightcore. Age 26.

Celia- A random character from a random Rainbow Week story who got promoted to a major character. A spooky banshee woman. Has periwinkle hair.

Noemi Kise- From Nichijou no Niji back in 2012

Maia Mei- another Whimsy Quartet girl created along with Joy

Nikamowin Takwakin- Celestine’s good friend. Originally named Alvarina, I decided to give her a name to reflect her Native Canadian roots. She was originally going to marry Celestine into royalty, but I realized it has racial connotations for a Native woman to marry into (white) royalty so she’s just going to be a friend to Celestine and possibly on the student council.

Other info: A first year in class 1-C, who is known for an altercation she took part in.  She was suspended as a result, but spent a lot of time thinking about her problems and came to the conclusion that she needed to stop hiding her true self, even if it would push others away.  That isn’t to say that she hasn’t retained some of her optimism and naivety; she still tends to be very trusting of anyone she considers a friend after all, often not even questioning things they may ask her to do.  But that isn’t to say she’s the exact same either; Gone are the days of her being quiet and afraid to engage with others, and the days of hiding that yeah, she’s pretty damn strong.  She’s not afraid of that side of her anymore.  She’s also member of the paranormal research club, and spends most of her time either helping out there, hanging out at the local arcade or gym, just chilling with friends or in her room doing music stuff.  She’s also developed a bit of a swearing problem, but that’s understandable considering who her mom is.

Special Traits: Fully sentient; Much more cynical than it’s user, but still quite kind; Can speak; Really, REALLY likes nikuman;  Typically doesn’t manifest unless Sumi wills them to (mainly because they want Sumi to gain some independence).

❀ Share a headcanon you have not shared.

(Hrm… Lemme see… Oh, lets do one of Gin. This has been kicking around for a while and I was actually going to post it after this meme if nobody sent something in.)

Gin herself actually isn’t someone who deals with serious tragedy too well internally. She is very capable of putting on a strong face and not freezing up with the situation comes down to it, such as when she brought Sonoko and Sumi to safety in preparation to deal with 3 Vertex at once, but that’s more in the heat of the moment situation. Outside of those and in more long term issues, things like a person dying would hit her incredibly hard internally, far moreso than one might expect from a person of her character, even if she wouldn’t show it on the outside and do her best to look strong.

The biggest example of this would be in the YuYuYui onsen event, where, when it was believed something was going around killing people, Gin discovered Chikage’s “dead” body alone, and immediately started screaming in terror for help. She calmed down somewhat once everyone else arrived, but the girl was still visibly quite shaken.

If something like Sonoko or Sumi dying during an attack were to happen, Gin could be strong enough in the moment to manage and deal with things, but in the aftermath, it’d completely kill her inside and she would arguably take someone close to her dying worse than any of the three internally.

“Just the car.” Jungkook laughed, keeping his eyes on the road. “Why do you seem so stressed out?”

“I don’t know.” YinYin sighed, looking out the window as they drove towards the park. “I just am.”

“I’m not going to scare them, you know.” He smiled.

YinYin stared at him. “You think I’m worried about you scaring them?”

“Uh…yeah?” He tilted his head. “Is that not what this is about?”

“There’s seven of them and one of you.” YinYin patted his leg. “And they’re all fans. I’m going to have to protect you from them.”

Jungkook snorted. “I think I’ll be fine.”

“If you say so.” YinYin rolled her eyes. “Do you have a lip balm?”

“Glove compartment.” He told her.

YinYin opened the glove compartment, pulling out a small tube of strawberry chapstick. “This is Sumi’s, isn’t it?”

Jungkook flushed. “It’s not her’s….she just always used to buy it for me.”

“You’re adorable.” YinYin applied the lip balm in the rearview mirror. “Letting your big sister buy all of your stuff.”

“Oh, shut up.” He stole the lip gloss with one hand, tossing it into the back of the car.

YinYin threw back her head and laughed. “Don’t be such a baby. And look, we’re here.”

Jungkook pulled into a secluded parking spot in the back corner, underneath a tree. The car was a bit conspicuous, so he made sure there weren’t many cars around.

“You know what this is?” YinYin asked.

“Um…a parking spot?” Jungkook undid his seatbelt, turning to look at her.

A grin spread across her face. “A perfect make-out spot.”

Jungkook smiled. “That’s my girl.”

He leaned forward, lifting a hand to her cheek and pulling her towards him. YinYin smiled as he kissed her, doing her best to maneuver around the gear shift so that she could get closer to him.

Someone slammed their hands onto the hood.

“What the-“ Jungkook looked up, genuine terror in his eyes.

YinYin groaned, opening her door. “LUCAS!”

“You were supposed to text us when you got here.” Lucas said, carefully smoothing out some invisible dent on the hood of the car.

“And you were supposed to be normal and not embarrass me.” She stepped out, crossing her arms. “Not act like some pervert.”

“Who’s the pervert? I wasn’t the one making out with someone in a public parking lot.”

YinYin was about to kick him when Kun cut in.

“To be fair,” The leader said. “I voted that we give you too a minute.”

“And I voted that I wanted to see the car up close.” Ten said, walking over to where Jungkook was timidly exiting the vehicle. “So nice to meet you. I’m a huge fan.”

“Uh, me too.” Jungkook shook his hand. “Sorry about that.”

“Yeah, it was horrible to witness.” YangYang said. “Definitely didn’t want to see anyone have their tongue down Yinnie’s throat, so that was –“

“YangYang!” YinYin shouted. “What did I say?”

“I don’t know.” He turned to Jungkook. “Can I take a picture in your car?”

“Sure.” Jungkook tossed him the keys.

“No, don’t-“ YinYin protested weakly, unable to stop them as YangYang sat down in the driver’s seat. “Babe, I told you to protect the car.”

“You call him Babe?” Xiaojun’s eyes widened. “Ew.”

“He’s my boyfriend.” YinYin argued. “I can call him whatever I want.”

“What do you call her?” Lucas asked, leaning out of the passenger side door.

“Umm….” Jungkook looked between him and his girlfriend. “Guanyin?”

They all fell silent. YinYin internally face-palmed.

“What did you say?” Hendery asked, staring at Jungkook.

“I said I call her Guanyin.” Jungkook said. “Why, what’s wrong?”

“Who’s that?” YangYang was trying not to laugh.

“Just shut up.” YinYin begged her group mates.

She’d known that this was a horrible idea. And the second he’d said her name she instantly regretted everything. Jungkook had, from the first time they’d met, insisted on saying her full name. Unfortunately, he never pronounced it right. He went for something too close to the Chinese pronunciation for it to be dismissed as a Korean version, but it was a distinctly Korean pronunciation and hurt her ears. But she could put up with it, because he was sweet and adorable.

The boys did not feel the same.

“Liu Guanyin.” Kun said, pronouncing slowly.

Jungkook blinked, speaking right back to him in his horrible pronunciation. “Lew Kwan-Yeen.”

Lucas laughed out loud. “That’s not even close!”

“What are you talking about?”

“Dude, you’re totally butchering her name.” Ten grinned. “Like…it sounds awful.”

“No it doesn’t.” Jungkook turned to her. “Tell them.”

YinYin winced.

“You haven’t told him? Xiaojun exclaimed. “That’s so mean.”

“I’m actually wrong?” Jungkook frowned, looking very upset. “I’ve been saying your name wrong this whole time?”

“Maybe…a little bit.” YinYin said. When his face fell, she spoke quickly, rushing to grab his hand. “But I thought it was cute! I really didn’t mind.”

“I can’t even pronounce my own girlfriend’s name.” He groaned, obviously embarrassed.

“It’s okay, we can work on it.” She patted his head. “It’s really okay.”

“I don’t think I like girlfriend YinYin.” WinWin shook his head.

“Would you guys be quiet?” YinYin hissed.

“See, that’s what I mean.” WinWin crossed his arms. “She’s so nice to him and she’s so mean to us.”

“That’s true.” YangYang shook his head. “I bet she never yells at him.”

“Sure I do.” YinYin turned to face him. “But he likes it.”

“Are you trying to embarrass me to death?” Jungkook demanded, hiding his face in her hair. “Urgh, now I get what you meant about you having to protect me.”

Okay so I've seen a bunch of peeps on here make posts about their persona hcs unprompted, but it's not smthn I've tried cus making first moves makes me feel pushy

However I have a whole lotta Akira hcs that I just rlly wanna share so..

-Akira was an (unintentionally) aggressive kid (as opposed to Goro who grew into his aggression in his early teens). It's not like he actively set out to upset/harm people, he was just naturally violent and hyperactive. He calmed down during middle school

-I personally see Akira as autistic? Mostly because those little in-game quirks he does (frequently adjusting his glasses, twirling his phone/pen, tugging on his gloves, fiddling with his bangs) as some form of stimming. His favorite is playing with his hair. As a child, he would just go wild and totally mess up his hair to get all that energy out. This leads into the next hc..

-He's sensitive to textures. Specifically hair textures. When he gets rlly close with someone, he likes to play w/ their hair (if they let him). He'll ruffle it, braid it, comb through it w/ his fingers and all that

-Touch his his love language. Loves hugs, hand holding and all kinds of physical affection. Y'all should know I'm a big fan of shuakesumi, so w/ Sumi he prefers to hold her hands and w/ Goro he prefers to lean on him

-Stated this in a previous post, but Akira is genderfluid. He's fine w/ any pronouns, most peeps just stick to he/him. It's not until a little bit after the events of royal that he starts outwardly presenting in more feminine and androgynous ways (thanks Sumi :>)

-This one's a bit out there, but I hc Maruki as Akira's birth father. I thought of it the second I saw him and already had a whole ass story in mind? I've only seen this hc once elsewhere and it was in a series of rlly good fics by wildcard_rumi. No I will not elaborate on the fics or my story ideas, just understand that Akira's bio mum was/is not a good person in this scenario and is p much one of the reasons Akira feels like he can't talk about himself

After all this time I finally got to create some of Lila's family! So here he is, the infamous older brother of Lila, Sumiklab!

•Name: Sumiklab, translates to flare or flare up

•Nicknames: Sumi, Flare gun (all from friends and coworkers). Kuya, meaning older brother (name mainly used by family), Anak meaning my child (used by carrier)

•Personality: Compared to Lila, he's much more extroverted than her. He's more social, not afraid to speak his mind most of the time, can be a bit cocky when he talks. When talking to Lila now he can sound a bit passive aggressive, mainly due to the fact that Lila basically ran away from home without saying a single thing to him or the rest of the family.

•Origin: Like Lila, he was born into a more upper class family system of Cybertron, due to their sire being a retired soldier of the Elite Guard. Sumiklab wanted to be in the Elite Guard like his sire once was, but he couldn't make the requirements, so he wasn't able to join. But not wanting to give up he instead took the training course to be a Enforcer, which he successfully got into. When he heard the news of his sister being missing, he couldn't believe it! He thought it was extremely unlike her to just disappear out of nowhere without telling him and the family she was even leaving! But really, Sumiklab doesn't really know much about his sister anymore, since he was barely there for her while she grew up. Sumiklab tried to find cases on where his sister could have gone, but he practically just dropped it without any luck, mainly due to the fact that he was more angry at her for leaving then anything else. So out of anger at his runaway sister, he just dropped his chances of helping to look for her and just continue on with his own life instead.

•Fun Facts•

-Sumiklab is 12 stellar cycles (12 years) older than Lila.

-He does indeed have a partner of his own.

-He was born with more specks of blue on his audio fins, head lights, etc.

-Got his flames professional painted on. So most of his frame is basically painted over.

-Frame is a mix of his sire and carrier's own frames. 

-Does actually use fire as a weapon.

-Was more of supportive and caring brother to Lila when she was more of a sparkling.

Major Personality Traits: Strict, formal, difficulty relaxing around all but her closest friends. When around her close friends, can sometimes get excitable over certain matters, much more than her usual demeanor would suggest, and eases up quite noticeably.

BACKGROUND:

Born as Mimori Togo, Sumi was adopted into the Washio household at a young age, due to her high potential as a Hero, taking on the name Sumi Washio. Alongside Sonoko Nogi and Gin Minowa, Sumi trained for the eventual task of battling as Heroes of the Shinju. The duty of a Hero was to protect humanity from an enemy known as the Vertex, a life form from beyond the Shinju’s wall who’s goal is to reach and destroy the Shinju, which would collapse the barrier maintaining Shikoku and signal the end for humanity.

Till 6th grade, Sumi lived relatively normally, despite her duty, the main exception being some occasional training to hone her combat skills for when the time of battle arrived. During one of her school days, the world around her, Gin, and Sonoko froze, signaling the enemy had finally attacked, before finding themselves transported to an otherworldly scenery created by the Shinju to minimize damage to the real world during battles against the Vertex. Transforming and wielding a bow and arrow, Sumi worked with her allies to successfully defeat the first Vertex to attack in almost 300 years.

Afterwards, the training for the three Heroes intensified, as did everyone’s bonds, a precious thing for Sumi, who lacked any real close friends due to her strict behavior driving some away. The group gradually grew to be closer and better friends between their shared experiences, from normal and every day life, to their training and battles in the name of their Hero duties.

Shortly before Summer, the group’s class went on a field trip, partaking in various activities, such as completing obstacle courses in record time, making art, and cooking. Before the trip home, Sonoko, upset over her lack of cooking skills where’s Gin and Sumi both assisted in making the delicious food that became the classes’s lunch, asked for their help learning to cook, and the three made plans to teach her how come Sunday before heading back home. But, the happy event was not meant to be.

After returning home, a Vertex attack of unprecedented scale happened, with three of the monsters attacking at once, where’s before it had always been a mere 1. Only seeing two initially and being caught by surprise from the third, Sonoko and Sumi quickly received heavy injuries that left them unfit for fighting. Too injured to move, Sumi helplessly watched Gin carry her and Sonoko to safety, before promising to return and leaving to fight the 3 Vertex. The bow using Hero passed out from her injuries seconds later.

Later, Sumi and Sonoko, having recovered somewhat, hobbled made their way toward where Gin had gone, shambling about from their injuries. The two saw Gin facing toward the edge of the barrier and raced up to her, relieved to reunite with their friend and calling out to her, but Gin didn’t reply. No matter how much her friends pleaded and cried, she couldn’t reply. The girl stood still.

Still recovering from the despair and hole in her heart left from Gin’s death, Sonoko and Sumi attended her funeral days later, paying their final respects to the third member of their group. Tragically, the Vertex attacked in the middle of the ceremony, sending Sumi into a furious rage. Together with Sonoko, she successfully fought off the invader, spurred onward by Gin’s heroic sacrifice.

Afterwards, Sumi and Sonoko slowly tried to move on and continue their duties, but Gin’s death left a heavy wound which wouldn’t heal and the two always kept their friend in their thoughts and hearts while continuing life and their training, such as Sonoko telling their teacher it was the three of them who worked hard as Heroes, not just the her and Sumi, when their instructor praised them for continuing their duty, or picking out a set of 3 matching keychains with their Hero form color themes in memory of Gin.

Eventually, the two Heroes were instructed to hand over their terminals for an upgrade to their system that would provide more power. After doing so, the two were summoned for the upgrade and each greeted with a small fairy companion upon grabbing their phones. Sumi received Aobozu, taking the shape of an egg with a dark middle section and eyes, while Sonoko received a crow Tengu that she nicknamed Sebastian.

After receiving their fairy companions, Sumi and Sonoko continued life as normal, even attending a festival for Halloween. Shortly after leaving, Sonoko and Sumi had a brief talk, where the blonde gave Sumi her ribbon as a keepsake to wear, a symbol of their close bond. However, shortly after this, the Vertex attacked once. The Heroes prepared for battle, ready to unleash their new powers.

Transforming, the two noticed their new outfits and weapons, Sumi briefly naming her’s after their departed friend. Down to only two, Sumi stayed behind to provide ranged support, while Sonoko charged ahead to act as the vanguard. During the battle, the two discovered that their fairies protected them from damage with a barrier, from poisonous gas and explosions, to blunt impacts. With each defended against attack, their Mankai gauge filled up. Once both filled there’s to max, the two transformed into their next level of power.

Empowered by the Shinju’s might, the two’s power soared tremendously past any and all limits they once had, enabling them to defeat the Vertex with ease. However, the system was not perfected, and both had their transformations undone automatically shortly into the fight, before all the Vertex could be destroyed. Shaking the dizzyness that has overcome her, Sumi discovered, to her shock and terror, that her legs were paralyzed. Before she could panic for long, her outfit mysterious grew a set of appendages for her that acted as impromptu legs, letting Sumi continue to move and fight. 

Catching up with Sonoko, Sumi learned that her companion had lost all vision in her right eye. Yet, before the two would dwell on it for long, the Vertex resumed their attack, forcing the pair to renew their fight.

Once again, the two had their Mankai gauge filled. After her second Mankai Sumi passed out upon detransforming.

A short time later, Sumi came to, starring at her surrounding with horror and confusion. The landscape she had been battling on moments ago, looking like an alien world she had no idea of. As if an answer to her question, Sonoko returned, informing her of great trouble to come. However, Sumi merely asked what was going on and where Gin had gone. As a price for the extreme power granted by Mankai, a Hero offered part of themselves in exchange. Sumi had lost her memories and legs in exchange for the strength to combat the Vertex.

Devastated by her friend forgetting about her, Sonoko wailed her friends name, but was interrupted by the arrival of over a dozen Vertex from behind the wall. An attack of impossible scale.

Confused, Sumi watched as Sonoko tied her blue ribbon around her arm, explaining how her, Gin, and Sumi were all friends forever, no matter what happened. Promising to return, Sonoko charged off to battle the Vertex, activating Mankai. Seeing the brilliant image of a colossal crow made of energy, Sumi’s consciousness faded into darkness.

Far after the battle, Sumi awoke in the hospital, completely unaware of how she arrived. Trying to move, the girl discovered her legs were paralyzed. Searching for an answer, Sumi tried to dig through her memory, over to find that the last few years of her life had all vanished. The identity of Sumi Washio had ceased to be, instead replaced by that of her original name, Mimori Togo.

POWERS AND ABILITIES

Physical Stats:

Super Strength:

Despite being the ranged fighter of her group, Sumi is not without enhanced strength. Her offensive power should be leagues above Christian Era Heroes, including Takashima Yuna using her first trump card, who was said to be able to strike with the force of a tornado, yet was unable to even scratch an incomplete Scorpio far weaker than the one her group faced. Where’s Sumi is quite capable of physically stabbing her arrow through Vertex skin with her bare hands.

Even lower level Vertex are said to be immune to any manmade weaponry, including nuclear arms, though if this is simply a property of being that durable or due to other properties(Such as the fact Heroes and Vertex are both empowered by the Divine and thus may be effective against one another), is unknown.

Super Speed:

While in the middle between Gin(The slowest) and Sonoko(The fastes) of her group, Sumi’s speed is still far beyond human levels, as all Heroes are easily capable of reacting to and intercepting projectiles which cross hundreds of meters to even kilometers instantly.

Super Durability:

As with all Heroes, Sumi possesses greatly enhanced durability. Sumi should be able to take attacks comparable to what she dishes out.

Super Agility:

Heroes, such as Sumi, are easily capable of leaping several dozen meters in single jumps.

Super Stamina/Endurance:

The first Heroes, of which were drastically weaker than the system Sumi uses, were capable of fighting for several hours, provided they were afforded a very short short rest midway.

Rapid Healing:

One of the few abilities that Sumi arguably possesses outside her transformed state. Compared to a normal person, a Hero’s body can recover from injuries at a much more rapid rate and even safely heal from heavier injuries which could incapacitate a normal human for a while, such as when Gin broke her hip and it wasn’t treated as anything terribly major. However, this power is not regeneration and while useful for returning to peak condition after battle, it does not heal quick enough to be considered of any significant use during general combat, save in the most prolonged engagements and still requires some small rest.

Enhanced Physiology:

Heroes have their body, even when untransformed, enhanced to a degree by the Shinju. These enhancements are minor in comparison to their transformed powers, hardly enough to even be called superhuman, but it can be assumed they include abilities such as a resistance to ailments, improvement to stamina, and possibly other stats. As an example, Anzu Iyojima was a very slickly individual with a weak body who had to repeat a grade due to missing too many days from her sickness, yet after becoming a Hero, she rarely got sick and her stamina was noticeably improved.

Cold Resistance:

The first Heroes, which used a Hero System far weaker than Sumi’s, were unfazed by temperatures which dropped low enough to instantly freeze lower level Vertex.

Bow and Gun proficiency,

Being her primary weapon, Sumi possess high proficiency in the usage of bows, having trained for a while as part of her duty as a Hero. Furthermore, Sumi is adept at the usage of firearms, having practiced with them and demonstrated the ability to win a carnival game in a single shot, that took Sonoko dozens without success, and which the person running the stand had rigged to supposedly be unwinnable.

Unlimited Ammunition:

Both her bow and guns possess the ability to generate their own arrows and ammo, letting Sumi fire without worry about running out. However, this does not mean Sumi is capable of shooting forever. Her bow needs to have the string draw and arrow charged with each shot, while her guns require a manner of reloading(Such as pulling back a mechanism on her sniper, akin to a bolt action rifle) after enough shots.

Hero Bow: (Pre-Mankai System Only)

Sumi’s original weapon. Capable of firing arrows in a variety of ways. Sumi is capable of shooting one or a small volley of arrows at one and spreading them out to cover a wider area. Sumi is also capable of “charging” her arrows with energy by holding the arrow ready for a several moments, sharply increasing their destructive power. Her arrows are capable of creating large explosions after impacting. Sumi can also physically stab the arrows her bow generates into targets with her hands, similarly causing explosions.

Shirogane: (Mankai System only)

The weapon Sumi wields after the Mankai system upgrade, named after her deceased friend Gin(Both names meaning Silver in Japanese). A powerful snipe rifle capable that fires highly explosive and powerful energy bullets, far surpassing any manmade sniper in potency and speed. 

Mankai: (Mankai System only)

Receiving an immense of power from the Shinju, a Hero can enter a state known as Mankai, dramatically increasing all of their stats to the degree of being able to one-shot Vertex which would’ve been a difficult foe normally and able to fly from ground to orbit in mere seconds. Sumi’s Mankai was described as possessing the firepower to easily and completely flatten a mountain in a single shot while transformed and she can fire an entire volley, where’s later Heroes using Mankai could crack large island sized Vertex souls with their strikes.

A Hero also receives a new tool to use during their second transformation, with Sumi’s manifesting as a large platform she stands upon, flanked by several powerful guns on each side. The firepower possessed by single blasts of this transformation was described as enough to flatten mountains.

However, Mankai also carries an immense price. After the transformation runs out, part of the Hero is taken as a sacrifice in exchange for the power, permanently crippling them in someway. This can range from a variety of ailments, such as blindness, losing functions in limbs, heart stopping, or even portions of their memories. To compensate for this, a Hero receives a fairy with each usage of Mankai, which further boosts their power, provides a new ability, and can compensate for disabilities while transformed(Such as when Togo’s outfit grew tentacles which enabled her to move around, when she lost the usage of her legs), but provide no such aid while in their normal state.

Immortality: (Mankai System only)

As part of the Mankai system, Heroes are rendered immortal and unable to die via almost any means. The fairies which accompany their masters will keep the user alive, regardless of if they want it or not. Various methods were attempted to kill a Hero, ranging from hanging, poison, drowning, stabbing, blunt force trauma, and much more. As long as the Shinju’s power exists, the Hero will be unable to die.

Barriers: (Mankai System Only)

As part of the powers of a fairy, they are capable of producing barriers when Heroes are attacked, protecting them from any and all forms of injury. However, while they are unable to be injured, a Hero is still capable of feeling the pain that would’ve been inflicted by an attack and being knocked out.

Flight: (Mankai System only)

While using Mankai, Sumi is capable of unaided flight.

2021 Juried Exhibition — Sumi-Fusion: International Mokuhanga Exhibition As one of its central events, the International Mokuhanga Conference 2021 is very pleased to announce Sumi-Fusion: International Mokuhanga Exhibition, which will take place from November 30 to December 4, 2021, at Nara Prefectural Cultural Hall as well as being presented virtually. While the conference itself is themed around the concept of sumi and its versatility in water-based woodblock printing (mokuhanga), and the presence of black and its relation to color, the juried exhibition will celebrate classic applications of mokuhanga, as well as contemporary fusions and new approaches to this historic art within the wider disciplinary world of print-media and contemporary art.
