i just think- that maybe- perhaps- if i may dare say- please don’t come at me guns ablazing- the pacing for the pjo show could be improved
#pjo show crit#i feel like the stakes are not as- stakesy#maybe it’s just me though#but the fight scenes just aren’t that exciting for me?#i plunge to my death is my Favourite tlt chapter and a lot of that stems from the silliness of why they went up in the first place#to echidna being quietly unsettling with her dog#to grover being anxious af because of the heights thing and percy being quietly supportive with his jelly beans#to the momentary relatable panic when you can’t all fit in the lift#and that very rapid devolvement into realising that Oh Shit Monster#AND BREAKING THAT TENSION WITH THE ANTEATER LINE#and the fight scenes and how he was panicking and she was taunting him with the ‘why have faith in the gods?’#the Dread when he hits the collar and the burning pain of the unexpected sting#TO THE VERY LAST LINE WHERE HE JUMPS OUT AND PRAYS TO POSEIDON#anywyas#just had to get that off my chest

Hello there! I am the anteater ask and I go UwU with cuteness thank you!!!
Do you need more ideas?
What about Sand Jesus?! 😅😂 I love Wilbur and his crazy speeches
Oh god me too. I could listen to that man talk about anything and everything, no matter how crazy.
So I imagine you’re streaming and you’re blissfully unaware of whatever the hell is going on in Philza’s stream and at one point Philza jokingly says, “Oh god, someone go get Y/N and tell them to come get their man”. So you’re in the middle of something from your own stream and your chat just explodes with “Philza” “Go talk to Phil” “Philza needs you” and you’re like “Woah chat, what happening?” And you can only gather little bits with how fast chat is moving. Something along the lines of “Wilbur” “text to speech” “sand” and “eat”. And so you hop on discord and ring Phil who answers right away. “I’ve been summoned?” You state, very confused as to what’s going on. And Phil explains to you about what he’s been doing on his stream and how Wilbur has been talking about eating sand through his text to speech. And he ends it with “Wilbur, do you just want to join the call and talk about whatever it is you’re talking about”
It doesn’t take long for another user to join your channel and then Wilbur just begins rambling and asking why it is so bad to eat sand. And you’re just so confused at what the hell is going on. You literally cannot tell if he’s being serious or not because Wilbur’s sense of humor is so dry and when he’s joking around like this he almost never breaks. He just keeps going about sand Mafia and resource depletion and you’re trying to ask questions, but he’s just ignoring you and all your questions. And so finally he turns on his face cam and you can see him and just the tiniest smile flickers across his face, breaking up the weird tension that had formed over you three. So you end your stream saying that you really should go check on your boyfriend, just to make sure. You leave your streaming room and head towards his office. He’s also leaving his room and walks right toward you with a huge grin on his face. “Please tell me you don’t actually eat sand,” you beg. Wilbur only grins at you and wraps his arms around you and pulls you into his chest, “Say you want to go to the beach with me tomorrow?”

About the Author
Mary Lindsey is a multi award-winning, RITA® nominated author of romance for adults and teens. She lives on an island in the middle of a river. Seriously, she does. When not writing, she wrangles her rowdy pack of three teens, two Cairn Terriers, and one husband.
Inexplicably, her favorite animal is the giant anteater and at one point, she had over 200 “pet” Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. The roaches are a long story involving three science-crazed kids and a soft spot for rescue animals. The good news is, the “pet” roaches found a home… somewhere else.

Huge thanks to Mary Lindsey, Entangled Publishing, and Rockstar Book Tours for sending a free egalley of this title my way in exchange for an honest review! This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this book.
This book is a BEAST, Penguins–a fantastically dark, delightfully atmospheric, gorgeously penned beast. Someone really ought to chain it up in my basement so it can’t escape, because HONESTLY, I just cannot even begin to explain my adoration right now. It’s too huge. (Also, side note, I don’t actually have a basement… but I mean, if you want to buy me a physical copy for my shelves? I wouldn’t say no to that. Just saying.)
The prose Mary Lindsey wove throughout these pages is darkly delicious and intricately detailed. Every sense was called into play–I could hear every sound, taste every breeze, feel every ridge of the world taking root around me. Before I even started this journey, the cover lured me in. Everything about this book screamed “READ ME”…and I did, Penguins. And what a wild, beautiful, alluring journey it was! The poet in me is so satisfied right now–the imagery was brilliantly rendered, the prose was purple and flowery… I just… GAH. New favorite author alert? Check and check!
I really adore that Mary Lindsey played with the lore of witches and werewolves…and then molded them, even if only slightly, to fit her needs/purpose. The world-building and backstory of this book are laid out in snippets and pieces–enough to give readers the answers they need at the time, but never enough to give away the whole picture. And while the ending is brighter than the rest of this read, with just a small nodding to hope…the whole book was so poignantly dark and disturbing, I’m not sure I’d call it a happy ending per se. Which I ADORED, Penguins–I mean let’s be honest here, happy endings? Overused. Cliche. Mary Lindsey found that beautiful middle ground for this book, and left me drooling for more!
I cannot sing enough praises for this read. The atmosphere, the prose, the gritty and “gothic” feel to the entire novel… This is artwork, Penguins. Pure, raw, and unfiltered artwork. I absolutely cannot wait to see what Mary Lindsey does next–and you can bet your beaks I’ll be watching closely! I’d recommend this to lovers of the paranormal, those tired of the same old “happily ever afters,” and hearts who consistently wonder what might be lurking in the dark. Be wary of the wine, Penguins–it might change everything, or kill you trying!
