I like seeing more posts that are like tearing down the strange fearmongering against AI art but it is kind of weird that what I’ve seen also randomly try and defend it as ‘real art’ because it’s kind of odd. In terms of coding something like this, yes, I do find it impressive, and yes, usually the ideas people generate are original. For me, I think, is the fact that it has to rely on images that already exist anyway to take directly from. I think it can be a useful tool for artists (I have generated certain scenarios that I struggled to think of a composition for or other certain elements) but if it’s someone just feeding prompts to an AI I don’t personally care for it. But I still feel weird about seeing something neat and then seeing oh yeah I made it with AI :) It’s just minutes of work vs the hours that every other art form has put into it. I don’t have a problem with people who do it or like it (SO LONG AS they are not specifically trying to emulate contemporary or recently passed artists), but it’s just like... Mmm. The technology is impressive in its own way, but not really as an art form- I don’t think it’s at all comparable to people who have painted abstract works that is ‘just colors and a line through it’ by hand.
