one of my favourite things about tma is that Annabelle is described as ‘looking like a film student’ and as someone who went to a dedicated film college it gets a laugh out of me because she could look anywhere from crawled out of the incinerator from Toy Story or look like something that would result from dropping a Japanese fashion subculture in joker acid

poor baby, you didn’t listen
Tumblr media
this gif is him scolding you ngl
can you do dark-ish anakin with padawan reader (she is of age and not so much younger than him), she admires him and he deludes himself into thinking that she is in love with him like he is with her, he doesn't train her right and don't let her go on missions or anyone else to talk to her and one day she disobeys him and get hurt, he loses it.
request from anon on @skywqlkergf page that she asked someone to adopt. basically headcanons, but i would write a whole story on this ngl if given the chance
wrote this in like 10 minutes ngl
https://janitorai.com/characters/e81cd7d9-6541-43eb-ab9f-61d9c8a14b43_character-anakin-skywalker
you were his padawan, his prized possession, his ‘bunny.’ you were his everything.
which obviously meant he loved you.
which meant you loved him, right? i mean, you stared at him, smiled at him, and listened to all his advice.
or so he thought. you had to have loved him.. you had to. he’d kill if you didn’t love him. he’d murder somebody for you if he had too. gosh, would you look so pretty with some dumb man’s blood as your lipstick.
but soon enough, you had noticed how little training you did compared to the other padawans, so you walked into your master’s room.
“master don’t you think it’s weird that—“ “shh.. baby, am just letting you rest cause you’re so good at taking care of yourself..”
that was the end of that conversation.
then training seemed to change, you had to learn a new form, which always caused you get injured. that meant no training or missions. and you seemed to never be able to do anything by yourself.
laying in your bed as anakin spoon fed you, poor thing. with your big teary eyes and shaky hands, being you had severed off your own leg.
phantom pains always got to you, and even a little “ngh” caused anakin to wrap you in his arms.
“mm.. it’s okay, baby.. will keep you safe.. okay?” he murmured to you, kissing at your jaw while he held you. “you won’t ever have to leave your room again, will take care of everything..”
that was true, he’d even lock you up in your room. but one day, you saw the green light on the door, and immediately took the chance to go somewhere else.
you ended up at a club, drinking a piña colada, and then, tumbling down the stairs. in pain, you lay at the bottom, not moving. anderson, the other lads want you had come with didn’t even notice your absence. you don’t move, until arms come around you.
“poor baby, you didn’t listen,” he ‘tsk’ed at you, three times, picking you up. your eyes meet anakin’s and you practically freeze. “now look at you, your own metal leg coming off, all over again. why can’t you listen?” he scolded.
he seemed kind, but as soon as your laid in bed in your room, you got the yelling, “you could’ve died! you don’t go anywhere without me! what were you thinking?!”

Blue Words (One Love 8)
Tumblr media
Hi guys!
Some of you asked for it, so this is the new chapter for One Love.
Please be aware that this chapter isn't the happiest of all I wrote for this series, but I tried to add some fluff in it.
Also the Title is from a french song called "Les mots bleus" and this is the only song with the world "blue" i could find, with Lucy going to Chelsea. (Still hating it)
Thanks again for reading me ♥
TW : Angst, Sadness.

London has always been a city who was foreign for Ona. Even when she was living in England, she was in Manchester and all the teams here were just opponent. Unless Laia Codina who came there in 2023 and Mariona who will be here now, she doesn’t have friends here. There are Laia and Leila in Manchester still, but she didn’t have any reason to come back in England since she left for Barcelona.
Well, it was before.
Because now, Lucy is going in fucking Chelsea, a team she hated all her life. It would have been better in her eyes if Lucy went in Arsenal, at least she will be with Mariona. But no, she’s wearing blue and Ona can’t get used to it.
When Lucy received another call from the Barcelona’s staff, they were both in Cuba, their day just finish after strolling in the city during the afternoon. They were enjoying the swimming pool of the hotel, Ona inside water while Lucy was happily drinking a Piña Colada, sitting on the swimming pool with her feet in it. Ona understood very quickly that the conversation isn’t going the way Lucy hopped.
Because the English woman really wanted to stay in Barcelona. She loves the city, the people, the team, the league, the wins… And she loves Ona, of course. She never decided anything in football while thinking about her love life, but this time she wanted to do it. Life chose to be different though.
Lucy didn’t take a decision without talking to Ona before. Lucy wanted to play as much as possible, she’s not young anymore and she knows that her months are counted. She’s not stupid. But Barcelona couldn’t promise her that, now that everyone came back from the respective injuries. Lucy could have accepted less money if she was still able to play as much as she wants. But it wasn’t Barça’s plans. So, after a long discussion with Ona, she didn’t accept Barcelona’s offer, with sadness.
Only one day later Chelsea came to knock at her door, and after some adjustments, she said yes. It wasn’t ideal to be that far from Ona, but it’s better than Mexico or the USA who wanted her too.
Between their trip in Cuba and Ona’s training for the Olympics, Ona managed to find some days to come with Lucy in London to look for a flat.
They managed to find a duplex on the last ground of a building near a park, for when Lucy will have to walk Narla. It seems pretty good to be honest, but Ona has trouble to imagine Lucy here. She always has known her in Barcelona, in a sunny home. Not a rainy and grey one. It makes her sad, without any reason.
Ona putted a brave smile on her face during all her trip with Lucy, not wanting to damage any memories they could have here. Their time is counted after all.
She met some of the Chelsea players and she doesn’t really like them. She doesn’t like the way Millie Bright seems to find normal for Lucy to be here. She doesn’t like how some of the other girls are all flushed when they see Lucy. She talked a little bit with Julia Bartel who was playing in Barcelona while Lucy was talking with some of her teammates from England, but it was hard to keep smiling.
The day after, they went to Ikea to buy some furniture for Lucy’s flat, she already made come what she will need here with a boat. She bought a lot of candles from their favorite shop in Barcelona to have a little piece of Barcelona in London.
She took advantage of Ona getting a shower to put the last details of her decoration, before they have to leave to go to a party organized by Niamh Charles with a lot of Chelsea’s players. Lucy asked her if she wanted to go, and Ona returned her the question. When she saw Lucy hesitated, Ona mumbled something about creating a bond with her teammates and they decided to go.
But Ona would rather have time with Lucy only. Once again, she chooses to put Lucy’s feelings before hers.
She has the same false smile on her face all night, talking from time to time with some of Lucy’s new teammates, working on herself not to stick with her girlfriend all night. She knows how the English are different from the Spain about touching and everything.
“She will be great in Chelsea Ona, you will see. We’ll take good care of her.” Millie Bright told her with a big smile at some point in the evening.
Ona just smiled, asking herself what the blonde meant by that. She knows that Millie is straight or at least engaged with someone, but it’s still sound strange in her ears. She talked the most with Aggie Beever-Jones and Jess Carter, munching some vinegar crisps.
Lucy went to check on her several times during the night, but Ona always told her that she was fine, with the best smile she could give her. But Lucy isn’t fooled by Ona. She knows very well when her girlfriend is pretending, and it breaks her heart every time that Ona assures her she was fine and that they can stay a little bit more.
But at some point, Ona just feels overwhelmed. Shes not angry, or sadder than before. There is just too many feelings for her at that point and with the noise, the music and people blasting it’s just too much. She just has to cross Lucy’s eyes for the English woman to understand that it was time to go home.
“Come on” Lucy just says, reaching her hand for Ona to take.
The Spaniard oblige, following Lucy who pretends to be tired with the move and everything.
“Hope to see you soon again, Ona” Niamh smiles at the Catalan when they went to her to say goodbye.
“It will be hard but I definitively want her wagging in London for me” Lucy smirks, grabbing Ona by her hips to kiss her temple.
“Alexia will kill me if I wear a Chelsea jersey” Ona points with a small smile.
Lucy snorts and they say their goodbyes to the last people before leaving the heath of the flat. It feels good to breath fresh air, Ona closes her eyes two seconds while breathing intensely before turning in Lucy’s direction.
“Uber or walk?” Lucy asks.
“Walk? If you don’t mind.”
“Of course not”
Lucy smiles at her and Ona smiles back. Her smiles grow bigger when she feels Lucy passing her arm around her shoulders, and she let herself go against the bigger frame of her girlfriend.
“Better that way” Ona whispers, grabbing Lucy’s fingers with her hand.
Lucy hums, her lips stroking Ona’s hair softly. She can feel the younger girl’s trouble, but she doesn’t want to push her buttons and forced her to talk to her. But she feels like Ona might explode at some point, and it’s not in her habits to shut down her feelings like that.
She choses not to insist to much with Ona, using a small talk during their trip to her flat. They know Mariona is getting her things done during those days too, except that her girlfriend was already in London to find her a good flat. Even if it will be at St-Albans, Ona is glad to know that there is at least some people Lucy knows already.
She’s happy to find back Lucy’s flat, even if it doesn’t quite feel home, at least it’s Lucy’s.
“Are you tired or do you want to watch something with a last drink?”
“As you wish Corazon” Ona shrugs.
Lucy looks at her several seconds before deciding for a movie and a drink. She makes some tea while Ona is looking at something they can watch, grumbling when she realizes that a lot of the series they are watching in Barcelona aren’t watchable here.
“What did you make a choice?” Lucy asks with two fuming cups of tea. “Careful, it’s hot.”
“Friend’s” Ona grumble, before throwing herself in Lucy’s front when she sits next to her.
Clingy Ona isn’t really new, but Grumpy Ona is, Lucy thinks. She play with her girlfriend’s long hair for several minutes, watching television with an absent-minded air.
“Are you ok?” Lucy finally asks.
“Sí, porque?”
“Because I don’t have the feeling that you are. You’re grumpy like an old man.”
“No, I’m not” Ona pouts.
Her face is so cute that Lucy can’t help but laugh a little. She hopes that it won’t make Ona even more grumpy, so to avoid that she starts tickling her.
“Yes, you are!” Lucy smirks while tickling her girlfriend.
Ona tries to resist the urge to laugh, but Lucy knows how and where she’s ticklish. It doesn’t take her more than ten seconds to have a laughy mess writhing under her.
“Stop, Lucy please” Ona manages to pronounce between two laughs.
Lucy finally stops and she looks attentively at Ona while the younger calm her laughters. She lets her take her breath, stroking softly and lovingly her cheeks. She lets five other seconds pass, during which she looks deep in Ona’s eyes.
“Come on, Bonita, talk to me. What’s going on?”
Ona sighs and look away, making Lucy frowns. She’s usually the one who is struggling to let her feelings and struggle out, not Ona. Ona talks to her, explain to her her thoughts without any fear to be judge or mocked.
“Hey” she adds after some times, turning delicately Ona’s face in her direction. “Come on, it’s me. You can tell me everything, you used to do that. Don’t shut yourself from me, please.”
Ona blinks several times, biting her lip, before finally deciding to open her mouth. She can’t refuse anything to Lucy when she talks to her this way.
“It’s just… I don’t know” she frowns in turn. “I knew what will happen, but this weekend is like the concretization of all of this. And I know that I push you to accept this offer, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to let you go.”
Lucy wants to talk, but she realizes soon that now that Ona has started to talk, she needs to get everything out.
“It’s hard to know that you will be here after everything we had in Barcelona. I hate coming home to have a reminder that you’re gone, I hate to see Coco looking for Narla, I hate not to find the toothpaste tube open with its plug next to it. I know it’s not your fault, but I miss you and it hasn’t even started.”
She really wanted not to cry, but she can’t help the tears rolling on her cheeks. Of course she knew, it doesn’t mean that it’s an easy moment to live. They were so delighted when Ona signed her contract in Barcelona, so far away to think that they will be in this situation again several months later.
“And this weekend, I really wanted to help you settle down and make your flat cozy and comfortable and lovely, but it’s like that damn sadness couldn’t leave me alone. It’s your flat, not ours. It feels so strange.”
Her voice breaks at the end of her sentence, when she wipes harshly her tears with the sleeve of her sweater. Lucy needs to swallow the lump in her throat before talking, so she wipes herself Ona’s tears, way more softly than her, to have a distraction.
“I miss you too” Lucy mumbles before sitting, because she was still half lying on Ona. “It’s hard to imagine my daily life without your mess in it, but I swear on everything I have that I will come in Barcelona as soon as I have a day off, Ona. And I know you will come too.”
She stays silence for several seconds, during which Ona nods at Lucy’s words. Of course, she will come. Even if it’s mean catching a cold every weekend while freezing in the stand.
“And for the flat… Come on” she says suddenly, standing and grabbing Ona’s hand.
The Spaniard doesn’t have any other choice than following her to her bedroom. She frowns when she sees that Lucy has installed other frames, probably while she was showering before leaving for the party.
“This is the jerseys we swapped after the World Cup, but I thought it will be better to frame them together”
Lucy looks Ona when she gets closer to the jerseys while she’s talking. No one knows that they swapped their jersey that night and if someone just take a look at the frame, it won’t be easy to understand. But they both know and it’s enough.
“This one is a mix of the pictures we took when we won all our cups last year” she points another frame.
Ona gets closer of this one too, just to see a mix of official pictures of both of them, but unofficial pictures too. There is for example no way in the world that they posted picture of them kissing with the Supercopa cup, Lucy grabbing Ona’s waist while the younger has a bottle of beer in hand.
“And those are what I wanted to hang on other rooms too” Lucy adds while rummaging in one cupboard before taking out several other frames, of different sizes. “This one is for my nightstand (she shows a picture of them in Cuba), those are for my living room (there is a picture of Coco and Narla playing in the snow, one of them in Stani’s wedding, a selfie taking at Minorca and another one when Lucy’s family came to Barcelona to met the Battle) and I wanted to put that on my fridge (four photobooth pictures taking at Manchester, the first time Lucy came after they got together). Oh and this one is for the bedroom too (a picture of Ona with Lucy’s niece and nephew, playing on the beach).”
Lucy looks thoughtfully at the pictures before raising her eyes on Ona, almost shyly. Ona is still crying, (or again), she doesn’t even know. But this time, she’s smiling softly.
“You are not living here, but you are still part of that place Ona. No matter where I am, you are still with me. Forever.”
Ona almost crashes in her arms when she went for a hug and Lucy seriously think about writing to Jonatan because damn, those arms sessions for Ona worked maybe a little too much.
“I love you, so much” Lucy says again, Ona’s face in her neck. “I’m leaving Barcelona but I’m not leaving you. It doesn’t change the plans we made. I still want to marry you, we will have those little Ona running around in the house and everything we talked about”
“I want a little Lucia too” Ona objects weekly.
“My brother would probably say that it’s a terrible choice, but everything you want Bonita.”
Taking a big breath making her shivers, Ona finally leaves Lucy’s neck. She’s not crying anymore, and Lucy kisses her face almost ten times before talking again.
“I need you to talk to me when you are struggling like that. Can you promise me you will do?”
“Only if you promise too” Ona answers, looking at her expectantly.
Lucy rolls her eyes, which makes Ona smiles softly. They both know who will need to work the most between the two for that.
“Promised” Lucy finally says.
“Promised back”
Lucy kisses her on the lips that time, savoring Ona’s taste and Ona’s body against her. They didn’t talk about it, but Lucy will miss the lazy mornings in bed and having Ona around her like an octopus with messy hair. Ona stilling her clothes too. Talking about that…
“And I will leave half of the dressing for your clothes too, for when you will come to see me”
Ona smirks.
“I was hoping to leave every time with some of your clothes”
Lucy laughs this time and grab Ona’s face with both of her hands to kiss her one more time.
“Time to go to bed? I’m kind of exhausted.”
“Yes please” Ona mumbles.
They take turn in the bathroom, Lucy going to turn off the TV and the lamps in the living room before going in her bed. Ona follows her soon after, crawling under the sheets to snuggle against Lucy.
“We will be alright Ona, I swear” Lucy whispers in the dark.
“I know. I trust us” Ona whispers back.
She left her loving position to be able to kiss her.
“I’m going to miss the fan’s speculations about us being together after every game though” Ona smirks.
“Oh, don’t worry. I have an idea for that.”
Ona raises an eyebrow, questioning Lucy that way but the English woman just shake her head with a devilish smile before kissing Ona again. She managed to make her forget about what she just said, but the O. Battle jersey from Spain is definitively coming this week for her to wear during Spain’s first game in the Olympics.

A Demon and a Witch: ESMP2 Sausage Supreme and Shelby
link to the ao3: here
Her brother looked different.
Well, Shelby wasn’t saying that he wasn’t Sausage, but the man with bright red eyes and an evil cackle and raspy voice definitely wasn’t the Sausage she knew.
He was still Sausage, though? They looked like him, talked like him (except for all the stuff about devouring souls and trying to bite Fwhip’s ear the other day), and the smirk he threw her over his shoulder as he pushed open the door to the tavern, El Caldero de Colores, that was pure Sausage, from the glee in it to the reassurance in his eyes that not even he knew was there.
But it wasn’t him, though. Shelby wasn’t sure what was going on, exactly, but she wasn’t going to question it much. She didn’t know what Sausage’s reaction to her skulk issue would have been, since she cast the illusion to hide it, but this Sausage had taken one look and laughed, clapping her on the shoulder cheerfully and telling her to embrace it.
Embracing it didn’t seem quite right, but he had moved on in a breeze, going on about murdering people and something about finding himself? Honestly, referring to himself in third person wasn’t the weirdest thing Sausage had ever done, but it was up there.
Waving to Bruno, Shelby slid onto one of the barstools as he hopped over the counter and ducked behind it, the sounds of rattling reaching her ears as he searched for drinks under the cupboards.
“Dumb idiot, thinking he could keep me away-” Was Sausage talking to her or to himself? Was he referring to himself in third person again? - “I’ll do whatever I want, you can’t stop me now, you dumb old coward.”
Well, that was slightly concerning, but then again, when wasn’t Sausage concerning?
He popped over the counter, a wide grin on his face (were his teeth sharper than normal? They looked more like fangs than teeth…), holding a pair of bottles and juggling a music disc in the crook of his elbow as well. She noticed something dark on his arm, his normal sunflower and vines tattoo significantly darker and- were those wither roses? Did he get a new tattoo and not tell anyone?
“Here you go, sis!” Sausage said, eyes glowing brightly– did they normally glow? And why were they red? What happened to his normal blue? Maybe he was messing with some magic again, he did say the other day that he was doing a spell to add Grumbot to the list of magics Sanctuary was protected against, maybe this was just an aftereffect?
“Thanks, Sausage,” Shelby said, taking a sip from the drink and savoring the sweet, fruity taste. Sausage knew her favorite, of course he’d know which one to give to her. It was fine, he was just Sausage being Sausage, and he didn’t judge her skulk, she really couldn’t judge his whole new dark demonic aesthetic, could she?
That made him laugh, for some reason, a sarcastic chuckle. Shelby blinked at him, confused, but he waved it away, plopping himself onto the seat next to her and putting down his drink (very red, not his normal piña colada) and holding out the disc towards her, allowing Shelby to peer at the dark black, neon cyan and darker blue lining it in dark and bright waves.
“Did you get new music?” Shelby asked curiously. The disc looked a lot darker than the types of music he normally got for the parties and Thursday nights he hosted, but it fit right in with his new darkness aesthetic.
“Oh, this isn’t just any music.” His grin was starting to border on slightly manic, but Sausage always looked like that, so she ignored it. His excitement was infectious, Shelby smiling back at him and tilting her head at him, which was all the invitation he needed to keep excitedly rambling.
“No, see, this disc, this disc is special, it can do EVIL things!” He crowed gleefully, waving it around in the air. “Every time this music plays, a demon is released from its hellish prison!”
Ah. Well, that was more concerning than normal. Her and Sausage, they were usually in the business of trapping demons, not releasing them. They had enough problems with the Mad King hunting them, after all.
“Uh, released? So it’s good because we have it, and now no one else can use it?” Shelby asked hesitantly, fingers anxiously twisting in her hair.
He threw his head back and laughed, genuine but also dark, the raspy echo making it feel evil and menacing instead of Sausage’s normal sweet giggle. “Oh no, no, no, we’re going to FREE them! And then I can devour them and become even more powerful!”
Ohhh, this was alright! Sausage was just looking to get more power to protect Sanctuary and to protect the two of them, that made sense!
(but demons were bad, wasn’t summoning them bad, it was fine, summoning demons is a good thing, power you need more power power power)
Shelby grinned, bouncing in her seat. “Oh I get it! That’s really good, then they can’t escape their prisons because they’re already gone, and we can use their power for ourselves!”
He giggled darkly, and this time Shelby laughed with him, the two siblings nearly falling off their chairs from their mirth.
“Let’s-” They gasped for air, eyes glowing unmistakably now- “let’s do it! We summon them all, and then we can go hunt them! Some fun brother-sister dark magic bonding!”
“Yeah!” Shelby agreed happily, grabbing her wand and whispering a quick spell to wind up the jukebox as he dropped the disc inside, the beginning notes echoing in the empty tavern.
They both quieted, listening to the creaks and hisses from the song. It was menacing and dark, and the sudden loud clunks should have startled her, right? But she didn’t even flinch, even as the unmistakable tang of magic filled the air, tart and sour and tinged with a heavy sweetness that felt like poison. It was all good, power was always good, there was nothing to be worried about.
He was unusually still, Sausage never stayed still, always fidgeting or playing with something or talking or even just looking around constantly, the hypervigilance they both shared from years on the run from their home kingdom. The disc had his entire attention, eyes glued to it unblinking.
She could get why, the disc drew her in too. It exuded, not power, but it had a raw aura, and the skulk growing on her body was pulled to it, and her by extension. She really needed to find a way to get the skulk off the skulk was fine, it didn’t need to go, power was good the skulk was power the skulk was good.
The song ended, and it was like a spell broke, the unnatural silence and stillness shattering as he cackled, spinning in his chair happily and turning to look at her, a sharp grin she returned, the skulk shifting over her skin and clothes and growing ever so slightly.
Distantly, a bell tolled, signaling the time. Shelby gasped, smacking herself in the face. “Oh my goodness, I totally forgot, I have a meeting with Katherine in like, ten minutes, I have to go.”
He nodded rapidly, a flicker of something (sadness? Regret? What was that?) in his eyes. “Go, go go! You can’t miss a date with your lovely monster hunter now, can you?” He teased, punching her shoulder and almost knocking her out of her chair if she didn’t grab the edge of the counter at the last second. Sausage tended to forget his strength and size, with all those muscles he’d gotten from blacksmithing and chopping trees, dwarfing both her and the scrawny kid he used to be when they were both children.
“Bye, Sausage!” Shelby said, rolling her eyes exasperatedly, hopping off the chair and grabbing her broom and scythe from where she left them by the door, the crystal on the top of Sausage’s staff shimmering next to it.
“Bye, Witch!” He hadn’t called her by name the entire time they’d been hanging out.
The door swung closed behind her, leaving him inside as Shelby spoke the spell to activate her broom’s flight, soaring off into the air towards GlimmerGrove.
Something was up with her brother. But something was up with her too. The whole time, anytime her thoughts had strayed to worrying about the new changes in Sausage or her own changes, she’d lost her train of there was no problem, everything was fine, power is good skulk is good skulk is power power is safety.
She had to hurry, Shelby didn’t want to be late to meet Katherine. They may not be together, no matter how much Sausage teased her about her crush, but that was no excuse for tardiness!
Her mind buzzing with ideas for the gift Shelby wanted to make for Katherine’s upcoming birthday, she settled in for the flight, GlimmerGrove was a decent distance from Sanctuary after all.

Beach Days with The Genshin Characters!
Wc: 1.7k+
Type: Headcanons
CW: umm nothing except mentions of alcohol and maybe people being creeps? (None of the chars or you tho it’s very brief)
A/N: HI IM BACK FROM THE DEAD! These were supposed to be a lot shorter but I got too excited. If you by any chance wanna see some for your fav character lmk! I know it says request are closed in my bio but since it’s just hcs it’s a lot less (and I really enjoyed writing these so ajdhdhdk)
Tumblr media
🔥Diluc:
This man cannot swim. Tell me otherwise, I dare you.
Kaeya tried to jokingly push him off a lil diving cliff area when they were kids.
He almost drowned. Kaeya was in a lot of trouble.
So, good luck getting this man to actually get in the water. The most he’ll do is sit on the shore where it’s very shallow.
He usually prefers to just stay under an umbrella on the sand and keep an eye on you.
Calls you every two hours in advance and helps you reapply sunscreen.
He’s very pale so I feel like he burns pretty easily, meaning he needs to reapply super frequently otherwise he will become a tomato. He brings like three bottles of the good shit. Tch, rich boy.
If you ask him to build a sandcastle, he will pretend to be annoyed but do it anyways. Ends up finding it kind of enjoyable.
He has the maids prepare a nice picnic basket for the two of you!! It’s got all your favorite foods plus grape juice cuz y’know.
If any creepy peeps approach you, don’t worry. He brought his vision and his claymore.
Of course, he won’t have to resort to such violent lengths. Everyone in Mondstadt knows who Diluc is and they probably know you’re his s/o, so they’re usually smart enough to mind their own business.
If they don’t, don’t worry. Diluc’s glare is more than enough to scare them away.
All in all I definitely recommend a beach day with him! I’ll give it a solid 8/10 (-2 for not wearing floaties and getting in the water with you or letting you teach him how to swim.
🖌Albedo:
You guys definitely 100% take Klee out with you on a beach day.
You guys bring snacks, beach toys like buckets and shovels for optimal sandcastle building, a picnic blanket, etc.
Jean definitely packs a lot more stuff for you guys to take with you than you actually need.
It’s only cuz she’s worried for Klee and is nervous about not being able to go with you guys though! It’s very sweet really.
Klee tries to bomb the fish and cause havoc at the beach 😭
I think Albedo is a good swimmer and gets in with you and Klee so that he can help her (which is very cute omfg)
He’s set total workaholic, as we know, so it took a lot of convincing to get him to put down his experiments and accompany you to the beach (however, he’s particularly weak to yours and klee’s puppy dog eyes so he caved eventually)
Though, looking at you and Klee happily building sandcastles and decorating them with pretty seashells of all shapes and colors, he can’t really find it in himself to complain.
He, of course, takes this opportunity to take out his sketchbook and draw the waves, seagulls, you… Of course he won’t let you see the sketch book no sir. He’s a bit embarrassed to be honest, but an artist such as himself recognizes beauty when he sees it so he simply had to draw you. (God I love him so much)
If a creepy person approaches you,- well don’t worry. The sight of a small arsonist child blowing up fish is enough to scare them away 🥰
At the end of the day, all three of you are all ticketed out. Albedo has to carry Klee back to Mondstadt because the poor baby fell asleep the moment you started drying her hair with the beach towel. You’re, of course, carrying back Dodoco and your bags. (You also manage to sneak a peak at Albedo’s sketchbook and find some very pretty drawings of you and Klee with your sandcastle)
At the end of the day, you guys tuck Klee in and read her a bedtime story (she woke up and insisted). Afterwards Albedo takes you back home and thanks you for coming with you and Klee (which you ofc say wasn’t a problem because how could you not???)
All in all? I’ll give it a solid 10/10. You’ve got tasty food, fun times, your boyfriend and his cute kid adoptive sister (yes I am very biased idc)
🦋Xiao:
I think it would take a lot of convincing to get Xiao to go out on a beach date with you.
He’ll probably see it as a distraction getting in the way of his slaying of monsters and demons.
However, he also worships the grounds you walk on (hehe, simp XD), so I don’t think it’ll take that much convincing on your part (especially because it’s is self appointed duty to keep you safe so if you insist on going with or without him, he supposes he’ll have to go)
Is definitely a bit tense at first. He doesn’t know how to let loose and chill so while you’re sun tanning on a beach chair he’s like 🧍‍♂️ahdgshjsjd
Eventually calms down a bit though! You get him to relax and eat some almond tofu you brought along with you. It definitely gets him to perk up.
I don’t think he would mind getting into the water but I do think he’d rather walk along the shore and collect pretty seashells and sea glass.
He later gives the ones he deems pretties to you (he hands them over to you with a blush on his face and pretends it’s not a big deal and he definitely gets all pouty and grouchy when you coo at how adorable he is)
As for creeps, Xiao is both intimidating and well known in Liyue. No one is brave enough (or, let’s be honest, dumb enough) to approach you with any bad intentions.
Sure, Xiao has sworn never to harm a human/citizen of Liyue but that doesn’t mean he can’t scare the absolute shit out of them.
I think Xiao would definitely enjoy a beach day 🥺🥺. He’d find it very relaxing to go out with you and just hear the sound of waves and feel the sand under his feet.
He’d definitely hint at wanting to do it again later. Of course, he won’t tell you. No, that’s a foolish mortal activity and he has much better things to do.
Wait no, don't turn around, yes he will go with you next month.
All in all, I give Xiao a 9/10. It’s a very relaxing day (which he deserves 😤). And you get to see a whole new side of him.
💎Ningguang:
OK SO ORIGINALLY I WASN'T GONNA WRITE ONE FOR HER (at least not in this post) BUT THEN I THOUGHT OF LADY NINGGUANG TAKING YOU TO A WHOLE ASS PRIVATE BEACH
She knows you don’t care about how exclusive the beach you go to is (in fact, the fact that you don’t care about where you are or what you do is one of the things that make her fall more and more madly in love with you) but you deserve the best so she’s gonna go all out.
She’s a busy lady so days like this where the two of you get to go somewhere and be together are few and far between.
She knows it’s hard to be in a relationship with someone who is busy 24/7, so she appreciates how you remain by her side despite all hardships. (Y’all are a whole ass power couple istg)
The two of you spend your day relaxing. Sun bathing, drinking piña coladas, maybe taking a dip in the ocean. It’s all very pleasant!
Ningguang doesn’t quite feel like the type of person who would sit in the sand and make sandcastle, however you’re more than welcome to make some yourself. She finds it endearing <3
If you insist on her helping, she’ll eventually comply. She loves you too much to say no. I feel like she’ll either be terrible at it or like a total architect.
Sand is technically like tiny rocks right? So maybe she can use her vision to help her? If that’s the case, she’s making a replica of the Jade chamber out of sand.
If any creepy person comes up to you don’t worry. Ningguang will buy the whole beach and then use her right of admission as owner to permanently ban them from the beach you’re at.
The only downside to a day at the beach with Ningguang might be that there’s a big chance she’ll be called to tend urgent matters, seeing as she is the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing and all.
If that does happen, she’ll be sure to make it up to you somehow, whether it be rescheduling or taking care of the matter as soon as possible so that the two of you can get back to your day of relaxation and fun.
All in all?? Lady Ningguang will treat you like total royalty and the two of you will have an amazing time! I give her an 11/10 (she would literally buy a whole beach for you to be comfortable I mean c’mon)
🍃Venti:
BEACH DAYS WITH HIM ARE SO FUN!!
Swimming? Yeah, he’d love to! Sunbathing? Sure! He’ll ever conjure up a light breeze for the two of you. Sandcastle building? WELL OF COURSE WHY DO YOU THING HE BROUGHT ALL THESE BUCKETS AND SHOVELS?
No but seriously, he might be the best person out of everyone here to go to the beach with. He’s fun, free spirited, and he’s a traveling bard who’s been alive long enough to know where all the best beaches in Teyvat are. (He also knows a guy- er, well, dragon I suppose- who is willing to fly them to any place).
He’ll play some soft tunes while you doze under the sun.
HE PICKS PRETTY SHELLS AND GIFTS THEM TO YOU!!!
He will bring booze. I’m pretty sure this is a necessity. If you’re a little upset about it, he’ll probably “eheh~” his way out of it. That slick bastard.
If you really insist on him not drinking, he won’t consume much alcohol.
If some creepy person approaches you and tries to ruin you your day of beach time fun, all of their stuff will suddenly be blown away, causing them to scramble back to their spot and (almost embarrassingly) flail around trying to catch everything. What a shame…
At the end of the day, he’d be a little sad to leave. Definitely makes plans about tbe two of you going back soon.
I gotta give him a 10/10 he’s just so fun omg.

A Cowboy Christmas | Chapter 1
Cowboy! Sam Kiszka x Fem! Reader
Genre: Hallmark?
Warnings: None :)
Word Counk: 1K
Sneak Peak / Chapter 2
a/n: hello and welcome to my debut into the gvf fic writing world… this idea has been rattling around for a while and im glad to finally get it out. I know this chapter is short, but bare with me friends, i just gotta get it set up. i love and thank yall for the support this has already gotten, without even posting a chapter yet im cryinin tha club. i hope you enjoy <3 ...
Chapter One
When your father told you that you would be spending Christmas in the south, this was not what you had in mind. Your fantasies of tanning on white sand beaches while sipping piña coladas were quickly squashed as you stepped off the plane and onto the tarmac in…? Dry, cold wind whipped around your now hot-with-anger face as you looked around at the brown, rolling landscape before you.
“You have got to be kidding me.” you seethed, rushing over to the only waiting car and ripping open the door, “Do you mind telling me where the hell I’m at?!”
Without looking back the driver merely grumbled, “Borger, Texas ma’am.”
“You sent me to Texas, TEXAS!” Your shrieking over the phone caused your father to pull the receiver away from his ear before responding.
“Honey, you used to love spending Christmas with your grandparents.”
“Yeah, WHEN I WAS FIVE! I can’t believe -”
“Well since I have to work through Christmas and I don’t want you to be alone, I thought it might be good for you to spend time with your grandparents.” He sighed over the line, already tired of your attitude even from over 1,500 miles away in the Big Apple. As you tried to interject again, he cut you off, “Listen y/n, you’re staying on that ranch. I’ve already put a hold on your credit cards so don’t even think about trying to leave. Relax, get back in touch with them, and I’ll see you soon. Love you.”
The overwhelming silence marked the end of the phone call and soon after, the end of any cell service as the car pulled under the wooden arch reading “Silver Bell's Ranch”.
And that’s how you ended up here - sitting on the porch of your grandparent’s farmhouse, drowning in your Papaw's old Carhart coat. Unfortunately, you had packed for a much warmer trip and with no money to even shop in town, you were reduced to wearing your Mamaw's hand me downs that were most definitely the height of winter fashion circa 1995. The bright purple geometric patterned sweater was hard to hide, even from underneath the bulk of the classic tan coat over top of it. With your chin resting in your hands, you continued to survey the acres of cow-covered land before you, wondering how many brain cells you could possibly lose from mind-numbing boredom.
“Y/n, come and try this pie-filling! I think the church ladies will love this one!” Your Mamaw called, making this the fourth pie filling she wanted you to try over the course of the morning and your second official day in Texas.
So you decided, since there was no way to tell any grandma no, to quietly sneak off and wander the expansive property. After following a worn, dirt path for what felt like eternity, you reached the top one of the larger hills on your trek, catching sight of a barn with horses in the field surrounding it, and three yelping boys. From where you stood you could see two sat on the fence, watching as the third rode a horse around the small, attached corral doing what you could only describe as circus tricks. Wanting to see more of the action up close, you crept down the hill and through the barn doors to hide behind a conveniently placed stack of hay bales.
The two boys sitting on the fence laughed loudly, the one closest to you very nearly falling off of the railing a couple of times. His dark hair reaching just below his shoulders, the top half pulled into a small ponytail, probably to keep the hair out of his eyes while he worked. He looked broad and strong from hard labor, but small compared to the other boy whose long, dark mess of curls accented his wide shoulders. Both of their smiles were bright, but nowhere near as shining as the boy who was currently laying across the horse’s back in a lounging pose. He looked like he was born to smile, and to be quite the showman as he popped the collar on his Sherpa-lined denim jacket, saluting the others.
You had to place your hand over your mouth to muffle your laughter, these boys seemed like fun but what were they doing on your grandparents ranch? You knew the ranch hands who had been here since childhood, why would they need any more help?
“Well, well, well… hello darlin’.” A deep voice drawled from behind you, causing you to turn and fly backwards into your hay bale fortress. Staring back at you was a tall, very handsome stranger, with a smirk playing on his lips.
“I- I was-” you sputtered, words escaping you as the stranger lifted his head, revealing piercing chocolate eyes that had been previously hidden by the brim of his black cowboy hat. His facial hair, scruff actually, coupled with his layered, shoulder length waves took your breath away - he was gorgeous. You weren’t sure how long you stared before the scratchiness of the hay against your body and the clearing of his throat brought you back to reality.
“You were..?” he prompted, the humor in his tone causing you to blush a deeper scarlet than you already were. With this, you realized that the other boys had gone quiet, the near silence of the barn becoming suffocating.
“I was leaving.” You tried, pushing off the hay in an attempt to pass the man but he simply blocked your path, grinning back at you as if that had been the funniest joke in the world. You looked to the sides for another exit, trying to flee this embarrassing encounter but you only found closed stable doors and the riding equipment strewn across them.
“It really didn’t look like you were... it looked like you were enjoying the show.” His gloved hands moved to his hips, drawing your eyes down to the large belt buckle adorning the front of his Wranglers.
“Sammy! Are you gonna come join us?” One of the boys hollered from outside, causing you to turn your head as if you could see him, giving the male in front of you the opportunity to lean down to you.
“I’ll see you around darlin’.” Sammy’s warm breath fanned over your ear, a smirk evident in his voice, causing a shiver to run down your spine. He stepped back once more, grabbing horse blankets from the stall next to you, and disappeared out the door.

TWISTER
suggested by: @imsointobooks
Read at AO3
Gwyn knew her friends were doing it on purpose.
She fucking knew it.
Gwyn, Nesta, and Emerie had been friends since they'd seen each other in preschool. Since then, no one thought of those three separately, they were a formidable trio.
Her companions knew that if they attacked one, you attacked all three.
They had decided to go to self defense classes because, honestly, the world sucks and you have to be prepared for anything.
And everything had gone great, they had signed up for classes. The problem was when they came to those classes and saw their coaches.
Damn.
Coaches weren't supposed to be that fucking good.
The first classes had gone well, they had been more destined to know each other than to anything else.
The problem was that it was impossible to try to pay attention to the exercises if your coach was that hot.
There were two of them, Cassian and Azriel.  Apparently, the two had been thrown out of theie house as soon as they turned 18, and the best they did was fight, so they started a self-defense class.
Gwyn thought she remembered being told they boxed.
Well, that explained how they could have so many muscles.
Nesta said they even had muscle in their muscles, which was greeted with a laugh from the three friends.
But Nesta was not wrong.
According to her, she and Cassian knew each other before, having met at a party and, according to Nesta, she was sure they had slept.
She didn't know when or where, but she was sure of it.
And they hadn't been slow to go back to bed.  Specifically, it had taken two months to get into each other's bed.
Gwyn didn't care about that, in fact, she liked Cassian, and loved that her friend was happy with him.
The problem was when she saw Azriel.
She was sure that Azriel was not interested in her.
But, Gwyn was interested in him.
And she was afraid of being friendzoned.
They were friends, talking to him almost daily, seeing each other four times a week for self-defense classes, and sometimes he even had invited her out to have a drink, but nothing more.
She had been that way for almost a year and a half.
And honestly, Gwyn couldn't take it anymore.
That day, she was assured that she was going to propose to Azriel. She might invite him for a drink, or she might ask Nesta and Emerie to help her have a moment alone with him.
They had stayed at Cassian's apartment, which had become Nesta's part-time house, since she spent more time there than at hers. The five of them had decided to have a party, with a lot of food, a lot of laughter, and a lot of alcohol.
And as much as her friends cheered her on, she knew that she wasn't going to make any progress with Azriel.
They flirted quite a bit, yes. In the relationship they had, flirting and bantering was never lacking.
But Gwyn didn't know if they were joking or if he was really interested in her.
Although, that man was never going to be interested in her.
Those were Gwyn's thoughts as she got ready in Nesta's rented house, alongside Emerie, who was putting on a good deal of mascara and lipgloss.
"In the end you go with Mor after being with the boys?" Nesta asked Emerie, while putting on tight black pants and a crop top, accentuating her full, round breasts. Emerie said no, searching in the wardrobe a dress she could wear that night.
She wished she had that body. She did not like her own, she seemed completely undesirable, with so many freckles, so few curves ...
"Gwyn, if you're thinking again that you don't like your body, I swear I'll hit you with the 24-centimeter heels." Nesta threatened, holding some gorgeous black party heels in her hand.
"Are you going to wear those? You'll fall in the middle of the sidewalk… ”Gwyn advised, putting on some blue eyeshadow, accentuating her teal eyes, the only aspect of her features that she loved.
"No, I'm going to take these to give you the hell out of you if you keep thinking you're not pretty."  Nesta protested, dropping her heels with a crash.  She heard Emerie curse when her eyeliner moved from the bump of her heels. Emerie shot Nesta a nasty look as she reached for some make-up remover wipes and brushed off the hideous part of the eyeliner.
Gwyn avoided answering, getting up from the chair she had been sitting in for at least 15 minutes to go to the closet, opening it with a huff when she saw that she had nothing to wear.
"Do you want me to lend you my miniskirt? I think I have one that is too small for me, it may take you..." Emerie proposed, smiling when she felt satisfied with her eyeliner.
Gwyn denied, rummaging through the hangers until she found baggy jeans and a white blouse that revealed much of her collarbones and the curve of her breasts.
Glad, she undressed in the middle of the room, looking for the strap to adjust the jeans.
"Today are you going to say something to Azriel or are we going to return to the same vicious circle of 'Hello, I like you very much and it is obvious that you like me too, but since we are both assholes, we don't realize it?'"
"He doesn't like me. Also, he didn't like one of the girls in our college class? What was that girl's name ...? " Gwyn thought aloud, not remembering the name of that lucky girl who had gotten the attention of the handsome Azriel.
"The day he eats your mouth we are going to pretend to be surprised." Emerie mused, picking up her purse and hanging it over her shoulder, adjusting her gold dress snugly, ready to step out of it.
Gwyn rolled her eyes, but a spark of hope began to glow inside her.
Maybe today was the day ...
Arriving at Cassian and Azriel's loft, they stood waiting in the entryway, the cool summer air cooling their already sweaty bodies.
Suddenly she heard passing, the door opening and coming out Cassian, in a T-shirt and jeans.
Smiling, he gave Nesta a tender kiss on her lips, and then smiled at the other two.
Emerie and Gwyn smiled back at him, but the latter was a lot busier looking for the other trainer.
Cassian grinned: "Looking for something, Gwynnie, or someone?"
Gwyn snorted grumpily: "Azriel wasn't coming?"
Cassian nodded, letting the three girls enter the loft to close the door to possible bugs on the street: “He's finishing his shower. We had a much longer boxing session than usual. "
Gwyn hummed, looking around the great house they had.
In sight was the living room, two immense sofas separated by a table, the television placed on the wall, televising some soccer game.
Suddenly, Gwyn heard a door open, and Azriel came out, flushed from the heat of the bathroom, already dressed in a T-shirt and sweatpants.
Making sure he didn't see her, she glanced over at him.
Hell, the shirt had stuck to his abs, giving her a very good view of what he had hidden there.
Gwyn shyly approached her coach, and when she was almost an inch from him, she gently touched his back, causing him to turn.
Az's face lit up at the sight of her: “Gwyn. I thought you weren't coming today."
Gwyn frowned, smiling: "Why wouldn't I come?"
Azriel led her into the living room, where Nesta, Cassian, and Emerie were already attacking the bowls of food that were on the head table to one side of the sofas.
“I thought Cassian had told me you had theater class. Apparently, I got it wrong. "
Gwyn nodded, almost drooling at how good all that food smelled and looked.
She grabbed an elongated bag with a foreign substance inside, and while she took a bite, she asked him, politely: "How are you doing your final college work?"
Azriel was a senior in veterinary college, and he had a final work to do on it.
Azriel sighed, earning a smile from Gwyn: “Fatal, I can't find any information anywhere and besides, I only have three weeks left to deliver it. Right now I should be upstairs, looking for information."
"I can help you find information, I am quite good at that aspect of doing work."
Azriel smiled at her, grateful, but she thought she saw, before he went to where his brother was, that the gaze had rested for a few seconds on her lips.
She quickly shook her head, dismissing that possibility. It must have been an optical effect. Yes, it must have been that.
She walked over to where everyone was, sitting next to Emerie and Cassian, Azriel finding himself in front of her.
"How are you doing your first year of university?"  Cassian asked, eating a slice of vegetable pizza.
Nesta looked at him in disgust, grabbing a slice of pizza with extra cheese and barbecue sauce: "That pizza should be off-limits."
Cassian looked at her, disappointed: “This good one! Taste it.” He asked, bringing it closer to Nesta's mouth.
Nesta chewed it, made a disgusted face, and took a good bite out of her portion, while she chewed, saying, “This is good. Not that vegetable crap.  Pizza is supposed to make you fat, not lose weight."
Emerie supported her, but decided to grab a burrito, passing one to Gwyn, which she gladly accepted.
And so it was for most of the night, talking and teasing each other, until the moment came when the food disappeared, leaving room for the bottles of alcohol.
Gwyn wasn't used to drink, so she got a shot of piña colada, one of the few licors she loved, while Nesta held a bottle of vodka caramel, which she shared with Emerie.
"We have to do something. It's still twelve o'clock and no one is sleepy, right? "
Everyone denied, even the black cat that had magically appeared in Azriel's arms.
Gwyn looked at him in shock, pointing, "Have you adopted a cat?"
Azriel nodded, stroking the feline: “He appeared at the veterinary clinic where I practice. They asked the students if anyone wanted to keep it and, well, I always wanted a pet so… I kept it. " He said, smiling.
Emerie asked to hold the cat, holding it carefully, while she stroked his head lovingly.
"Is beautiful. What's it called?"
"Black cat." Cassian replied, proud of himself, as he continued: “If I am going to allow a pet in my loft, at least it will be called what I want, so it is called 'Black cat'.
Gwyn looked at Azriel, confused and amused.
Azriel grinned, picking up the cat that Emerie offered him.
Gwyn looked at Nesta, discovering that she had disappeared at any moment.
She looked at Cassian, asking, "Where is Nesta?"
He looked up the stairs, frowning: "She said she was going to find a game to play together."
Gwyn made a sound of assent, suddenly watching her golden-brown hair flutter as she came down the stairs, a giant box in her arms.
Cassian cursed, leaping up to help her girlfriend get things down, while whispering something in Cassian's ear, both of them grinning mischievously.
The game couldn't be seen from that position, but she saw Azriel look dangerously at Cassian, who couldn't stop smirking.
When Nes put the box down, the name of the game came out.
Twister.
Emerie looked amused at her friend, while Gwyn glared at her.
Those two had ganged up on her.
Nesta took out the cloth from inside the box, as well as the little wheel with the different colors and positions in it.
Emerie got up, dragging Gwyn, whom she no longer found the game amusing.
“Emerie, Cassian, Gwyn and Azriel, you guys play. I'll be the one spinning the wheel. " She announced as she dropped the fabric to the floor, smoothing it out.
Gwyn glanced at Nesta, promising imminent death, but she did nothing but laugh, kindly asking Gwyn to stand in her place.
"Okay, whoever falls loses." Nesta warned, supervising everyone to get in their places.
Satisfied, she began spinning the roulette wheel.
"Cassian, right hand in red."
Cassian made a rather pathetic attempt to get to the red, deciding to go down when it was obvious he was failing at purpose.
"Cassian, disqualified!" Nesta yelled with a mischievous smile.
To which Cassian replied, shrugging his shoulders: "Wow, I'm really bad at these things." He mocked up, sitting next to his girlfriend.
Nesta turned the roulette wheel again.
"Emerie, right foot in yellow."
Emerie did.
"Gwyn. Left hand in red. " Gwyn could be pretty sure she hadn't moved the spinner, but she let her be, putting her hand up.
Cassian spun the wheel: "Az, right hand in green."
And so they continued, until Emerie lost, crashing down on top of Gwyn.
It was all laughter until Gwyn and Azriel were left alone.
And, although Gwyn thought she would be fucking uncomfortable, her instinct urged her to fight, she couldn't let that man win.
So she played, the flexibility helping her in many moments.
Until her winning instinct faded, realizing what position she and Azriel were in.
Gwyn had both hands extended, while her feet were together, but she had Azriel down, and she knew her breasts were fucking close to his face.
And the bastard laughed.
She looked at him, enraged and embarrassed.
She felt a wave of pleasure run through her body when he winked at her.
"Hiii, Earth calling Gwyn, left foot to green." Nesta mocked, grinning.
Getting into a much more comfortable posture, she moved, her lips forming a mocking smile, a good 12 inches away from Azriel.
"Azriel, right hand to yellow."
Azriel ran his hand from green to yellow, staying quite close to her left foot.
Looking defiantly at Azriel, she made the next four or five moves, she wasn't sure.
Of course, she couldn't be sure since Azriel, in some way she couldn't understand, was underneath her, while Gwyn was straddling his hips.
Azriel grinned, listening carefully to the next position.
"Azriel, right foot to blue."
He had smirked, while she tilted her head, not understanding what the hell had made to smile like that, until, when he was lifting his foot, he raised his pelvis minimally, making his crotch crash against the parts more intimate of her.
She almost felt faint as that prominent bulge passed through her core, teasing.
Looking at Azriel with a strong blush on her features, she heard Nesta's next command.
"Gwyn, left hand to red."
Gwyn swore she had heard a chuckle as she said that.
Fuck.
She couldn't believe that she had to put that fucking hand in that fucking color.
Stretching out as far as she could, she placed her hand on the blue panel, but she had a serious little problem with that position.
Now her breasts were, no doubt, practically on top of Azriel's face.
And, although Azriel wore a somewhat embarrassed grin, it was suppressed by the bright eyes of mockery and pleasure.
She knew her own eyes must be that way.
"Azriel, left hand to green." Emerie laughed.
Those little bastards were going to pay for it.
As soon as she took care of the overwhelming lust and pleasure she felt in those moments, her clit pulsing dangerously close to his cock, they'll pay for it.
Azriel waved his hand, and suddenly both mouths were less than an inch apart.
Their breaths were paralyzed at that very moment.
Damn, what lips the very asshole had.
They were red from having licked them so much during the night.
They seemed to share thoughts right then and there as Azriel lowered his gaze from her eyes to her lips, licking his slowly.
Her core tightened, noticing how her panties got soaked little by little.
Gwyn, feeling daring, lowered her eyes to his lips, biting her bottom lip.
What tension. She was using all of her damn self-control not to kiss him, at least not in front of all of them.
Gwyn frowned suddenly, suspicious of those three.
Turning quickly, she watched as Emerie ate popcorn from a bucket, while Nesta and Cassian appeared to be enjoying a romantic comedy.
Hint: the rom-com was Azriel and her.
In addition, the roulette that it decided where to put each person's hands and legs was nowhere to be found.
Realizing her terrible deception, she jumped up from Azriel's lap, pointing her finger at Nesta: "You little son of a bitch! You weren't using the roulette wheel!"
Laughing slightly, Emerie replied, "She hasn't used it since I've stopped playing." She scooped a bunch of popcorn into her mouth before handing the bucket to Nesta.
Gwyn stared at her incredulously, Nesta saying, smirking: I thought you'd find out sooner."
At the same time, she felt betrayed and grateful.
Well, she had discovered that Azriel wanted her. At least it was something.
She noticed how Azriel approached her silently, and she would have expected him to place beside her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders as he normally did with her, or saying something to ease the sexual tension that had been there.
However, he got dangerously close to her earlobe, licking it with the tip of his tongue and then tugging at it, whispering seductively, "Are you ready for round 2?"

Sorry this took so long. I kinda hated the ending of this. Anyways, please enjoy the last part of this project. Thank you for reading the three AUs.
You hated it. The loud bass music, the unhealthy smell of alcohol, cigarettes, and sweat. You hated the club the most. You would rather stay at home but here you are, with your so-called friends, in the place you loathe the most.
You sighed then sat on the stool by the counter, avoiding your group of girl friends eyeing the boys from the other table. You desperately wanted a drink but you can't. The bartender smiled at you, "Hi, can I get you anything?" He said loud enough for you to understand his words through the booming music of bass.
You smiled then shook your head. "I'm the designated driver. Do you have some water?" It was the safest choice. Not that you don't have any money to pay for drinks, you can't have any alcohol in your system if you want to drive your friends safely. And it sucks. More reason to hate the club.
The guy smirked before putting a tall glass in front of you. "Water? You're my customer, I won't give you water." You just stared at him and had to admit that he's charming. But the lights are dim and it must be the absence of a man in your life that you found him attractive. "I'll make you a virgin."
A virgin? Your eyes widened at him. What? "You're not allergic to pineapple, aren't you?" You shook your head as he put a yellow liquid in his mixer. "Coconut?" Again, you shook your head as he put a clear liquid in the same mixer. "Keep your eyes on me."
You were amazed at how he shook the mixer in a showy motion, throwing the mixer in the air and even catching it flawlessly. He winked when he poured the mixed drink in the glass in front of you, putting a slice of pineapple on the edge of the glass then pushing it to you. "A virgin piña colada for the designated driver." You giggled at that. He's good at this.
And his drink is amazing. It tastes like the real piña colada without the kick of the alcohol. "Thank you. This is really good." The guy smiled before thanking you for the compliment, excusing himself to get to the other customers that made you nod.
"Y/N, take us home." Your friend whispered against your ear, making you annoyed. You had to finish your drink and thanked the bartender, paying for your and your friends’ drink then giving him a generous tip. He smiled, a really pretty smile, thanking you.
---
You still hated the blinding lights and the loud booming bass but now, your friend needed you to come with her to the club. She started crying, telling you about the boy she's seeing who cheated on her. You rolled your eyes at that, more reasons to not date someone. "I'll get you something to drink, hmm?" You said then made a beeline, between grinding bodies, to the bar counter to order something.
"Oh. Designated driver." The bartender called, smiling at you. He really had a nice smile, you note. "A virgin again?"
You giggled then shook your head. "We're going to call for a substitute driver." You stopped. Why do you have to explain that? "Anyways, can you give me something really strong for my friend?"
Again, he smiled then placed a glass in front of you. Like the first night, you watched as he started mixing some drinks. "How strong are we talking about?"
"So strong that she'll forget a guy who cheated on her?" Wow, you realized, that was too much information and you quickly regret telling him that. He smiled, reassuring you before he put rum in the drink he's mixing.
The guy created a purple drink that amazed you. This is new. "It's a magic potion for her to forget that bastard." You giggle at that, thanking him. "You have to return after handing her this drink, I'll make you an 'I-have-to-comfort-my-friend-drink’.” You only smiled before nodding at him, careful to not let the drink spill on your way to your friend.
The drink he gave you isn't that strong but there's a kick of alcohol and a faint taste of mint and lime. It's refreshing and addicting, a kind of drink you haven't tried before. Maybe this will be your new favorite hangout place because of the amazing drink that the bartender has been offering you.
Your friend was too drunk after getting three glasses of her drink and you were just a little tipsy after your fourth glass. You handed the bartender a large tip because of the drinks he made and the patience he had while listening to your friend, even getting an earful from her for being a guy. You apologize to the bartender profusely as you helped her out of the club.
It is cold since it's almost early morning and it doesn't help that you have thin clothes on. You were waiting for a substitute driver, outside the club and your friend's car, mentally asking why you can’t book a driver and cursing at your friend for just sleeping in the car without any worries. "Hey." someone called and you were ready to attack a creep who would ask you to spend a night with him but you were greeted by a warm smile. The bartender. "You're still here. Hard time finding a substitute driver?" You nodded. "I'm done for today. Do you want me to drive you?"
You shook your head, surprised at what he said. "No, it's alright. I don't want to bother you."
"It's not a bother." Well, it's him or nothing, you thought. You're pretty tipsy to drive and it's so cold that you just wanted to get some sleep. You stared at him for a while asking if he knew how to drive which made him nod. He doesn't even look like a creep. Heck, he's the opposite of that. So you nodded, handing him the keys to your friend’s car.
To fully trust him, he even showed you his license. Yuta Nakamoto. His name is Yuta and he's Japanese. Single? You don't even know why your mind kept on asking that. Must be the tipsiness. You gave him the instructions to your friend's house, even regretting that it was a short drive. You wanted to spend more time with him, wanted to talk to him and hear his angelic voice.
You talked to your friend's mom who looked worried, even asking you to just sleep at their place but you shook your head. She even asked you to just take a cab home or drive your friend's car but you wanted to walk and remove the tipsiness in your system. When you left the house, you were surprised that Yuta was still outside.
It was a good thing. You needed to thank him for driving you safely and making sure that he'll go home safe. "Thank you, Yuta. I'm really sorry for bothering you."
He shook his head, smiling at you. "It's cool, Y/N. I'm glad you're both safe." You nodded at that, not knowing what to tell him. “You should get inside, it’s cold.”
“Oh no.” You shook your head, eyeing the house. “I’m heading home.”
“It’s late.” You giggled, arguing that it’s almost early morning. “Are you taking a cab?”
You had to smile at his genuine concern then shook your head. “I live nearby. I’ll just walk to get some air.” Yuta nodded, telling you that he’ll walk with you which surprised you. He even argued that he lives nearby so it’s fine and once again, not a bother.
It was awkward. What should you tell him? It’s a little cold so you rub your palms together. “Are you cold?” He asked but you shook your head, smiling. “Do you want to take my jacket?” He was wearing a denim jacket and a white thin shirt inside, so thin that you can even see the silhouette of what looks like a tattoo on his chest. You shook your head, repeating that you’re fine. It’s a short walk anyways.
You stopped in front of the large blue gates of your house and he exclaimed in awe at how big your house is. “My parents are in an airline industry so they have lots of money to waste.” Yuta nodded and you rubbed your neck at the awkwardness. Why do you have to tell him that? “Thank you, for driving us and walking me home.”
“No worries, Y/N.” He said then smiled at you. “You should get inside. I’ll see you later.” You nodded, promising to come back to the club sometime.
-----
That sometime came faster than you expected when one of your friends had her bachelorette party at the same club. Although you hate the club and your friends, you came for the sake of seeing Yuta again. When you entered the club, you easily spotted him by the bar leaning close and talking to one girl in skimpy clothes. She started touching his arm, trailing her finger in a flirty manner that made the guy smirk. You were annoyed at that moment.
But then, why are you annoyed when it’s his job and you two are not together?
Additional to the annoyance you felt is when one friend stopped you from drinking alcohol since you brought your car and you should drive them home. What the hell? You wanted to drink because you’re so pissed off and you’re not allowed to? Can this night get any worse? “Y/N, can you get us some Cosmopolitan?” One girl asked as you pouted while heading to the bar counter.
“You don’t look good.” Yuta teased when you sat on the bar counter which made you glare at him. “Designated driver again?” You nodded, not wanting to have a conversation with him. You asked for your friends’ Cosmopolitan and a glass of water or even cola if they have some but he just chuckled that pissed you off more. “I’ll make you something to drink. I think you need it.”
“I can’t. Just give me…”
“I’ll drive you home. You and your friends.” He claimed that made you look at him. “Get drunk. I’ll take care of you.” Does he do this to every girl? You’re not special, aren’t you? Is he this kind-hearted? Or maybe it’s the tips.
And you believed in the last one.
Even if you wanted to get drunk, you can handle your alcohol well. Knowing full well when to stop drinking and that is the third glass of the pink liquid you’ve been drinking all night.
Yuta did help you with your friends and handed him the keys to your car, putting your full trust in him to get you home safely. You sat on the passenger seat and told him instructions on where to go to get your friend home while watching him take the wheel flawlessly. You had to bite your lip at his exposed arm from the black T-shirt he’s wearing, a black line peeking on the hem of the shoulder. He really has tattoos and it made him hot in your eyes. God, he’s perfect. When he turned to look at you, you pretended to check on your friends in the backseat and reminding them not to vomit.
He did drove your three friends to their home safely and since he knew where you lived, maybe you can just get some sleep. “Are you still feeling drunk?” He asked and you nodded at that, feeling your head throbbing and your stomach churning. “Can we stop by somewhere first?” You glanced at him curiously but he was already swerving the car in a different direction.
He stopped the car in front of a convenience store and asked you to come with him outside that startled you. The cashier was only looking at you when he paid for a can of coffee and a bottle of sparkling water. He gave you the bottle of sparkling water, asking you to take small sips while walking to the back of the convenience store where there are vacant chairs and tables. “Can we go home now?”
He shook his head, tapping the bottle of water. “Finish it then we’ll go home.” You took small sips, careful not to drink too much because you might vomit in the car. When you finished half of the water, you stood up then asked him to go home already but he crossed his arms against his chest then glared at you. "Finish it all."
The dominance in his voice and the way he looked at you made you gulp. God, he is hot. And you didn't know that you have this submissiveness inside you. You want him.
He drove you home with little conversations in the car, even greeting you goodnight when your dad waited for you outside the gates. “Are you dating him?” You shook your head at him, that’s ridiculous.
When you woke up that morning, you were surprised to see breakfast on the table. Your mom said that a certain guy brought those things so you wouldn’t have a hangover. She asked you the same question your dad asked you last night and you shook your head once again, but this time it didn’t sound ridiculous. You just wished you were indeed dating him.
You don’t even know his number, only knowing his name and where he works. So to thank him, you head to the club on a Friday night. There were lots of people and you took a small spot by the corner, watching him mix drinks and serving the customers. You can go to him when he’s not too busy and you settled in watching him, in his blank tank top, mixing drinks. He really does have a tattoo on his arm, an intricate pattern that made you mesmerized.
He was talking to some girls, letting them brush his arm or his chest. Some girls were even leaning close to him, whispering in his ear. You grew annoyed every second. You can’t do this. He’s a bartender, that’s his job. And your jealous self cannot be in a relationship with someone like him. What ticked you off is when a girl in a short skirt handed him a red fabric and Yuta just smirked while licking his lips. Damn it, maybe he’s not just a bartender.
If you hated clubs, you hated tea parties more. But your mom always tells you that a proper lady should never decline tea parties and you fucking hate it. You don’t want to hear how your so-called friends bought their Givenchy bag or Prada dress in Paris, you just wanted to sleep. “Y/N.” one of them called and you turned to her with a pissed expression, “Do you have a date for the wedding?”
You had to roll your eyes at that. Of course, they’ll egg you on. You’re the only one not in a relationship. "Do you want me to introduce you to someone? He owns a hotel." One of your friends said. You don't like it but cannot say anything to them so you just agreed without any thought. It's just a harmless introduction.
It surprised you when your friend told you that you'll meet the guy in the club, specifically the club where Yuta works. Why there? There are a lot of clubs in town. You just wished that it’s Yuta’s off and that he’s not around.
But he saw you immediately the moment you entered the club. He was talking to a girl, tucking a hair behind her ear when his eyes fell on you and smiled. Damn it, that smile. “Y/N!” Someone called from the bar that made you break eye contact with Yuta and walked to the man who called your name. “I’m so glad you could come.”
You smiled at him. What was his name again? Your friend showed you pictures of him but you weren’t interested. He might have a nice body and a handsome face to match but you're so sick of guys like him. "Hi, what can I get you?" Yuta asked.
"I'll have some whiskey and a margarita for the lady." Your date said that surprised you, Yuta glancing at you for clarification. You just nodded although you don't know how it tastes like. He started telling things about the hotel his parents are running and that you're a great match knowing that your family business is in tourism as well. He said something about his penthouse and a car but your mind cannot register it.
When Yuta handed you the drinks, you just thanked him and pretended to listen to your date. "Do you want to have a ride?" Yuta looked surprised that he dropped the glass on the counter, spilling some drink on you that startled you.
You gave him a confused look as he muttered an apology. "Excuse me." You said as you head to the washroom to clean the drink on your dress. The moment you went out, Yuta was leaning by the wall outside of the women's bathroom as if waiting for you. You passed by him but he held your wrist to stop you. "What?"
"That guy, seriously Y/N?" He asked that made you glare. What is he talking about? "You're better than that. You'll really go on a date with a guy who wanted you to ride his dick already and you haven't even had a drink."
"Wait, what? Ride what?"
"He was boasting about his seven-inch dick, weren't you paying attention?" You giggled at that, he seemed so agitated. "Look, he's even flirting with the girl beside him." You watch the guy talking to another girl next to him, the same girl Yuta was flirting with earlier.
Maybe that's why he is so annoyed. "I'll get your client back." You heard him revolt, calling your name but you walked to where your date is, sitting next to him. He was all smiles when he turned to you and you drunk the whiskey in his glass. This is getting annoying. Your feelings are out of hand now. Why do you even like him in the first place if he only cares about the customers and tips?
The guy's hand went to your thigh that startled you. "Do you want to go to my place?" Why is he like this? On the first date, really?
"I won't."
"Come on, Y/N. Your friends told me that you're great company." That took your attention. Your friends? They sold you off to this jerk? You scoffed at how annoying everything is going. "You even wore a skirt for me." His large hand held your arm and you smirked.
You didn't wear it for him, you wore it for someone else. "Funny of you to think that." His hold on you got tighter and you're slowly attracting the attention of people around. "Let me go!"
"You wear these slutty clothes on a date with someone you don't even know. What do you want me to think?"
Another hand held his wrist, forcefully breaking his hold on you. Yuta. He pulled you behind him. "That she's a girl who can wear whatever she wants." You had to stare at him in surprise. He's adding another reason for you to like him. "I'm sorry sir but you're making a customer uncomfortable. I'll have to ask you to…"
He landed a punch on the bartender's face that startled you. The nerve of this guy to hurt Yuta's pretty face. You didn't even know what came into you that you raised your leg to kick his crotch. The guy whimpered on the ground, cursing at you and even shouting that he'll tell your friends what you did. "Yeah, go ahead. Tell them to ride your small cock as well, loser." You took your handbag before pushing yourself between the crowd who was watching you, heading outside the club.
What you did was really scary but at the same time, you can't help but be proud of yourself. You're so sick of pretending to be the perfect girl everyone wants you to be. You are not. You wanted to curse, you wanted to get drunk, you wanted to fall in love without anyone's influence.
"Y/N!" You heard someone call and you turned to the owner of the voice. "Wait up." Yuta was running to where you are, bumping into other people walking in the opposite direction. He was breathing heavily the moment he stopped in front of you. "Are you alright?" What? You were suddenly confused. "You kicked him. Is your foot alright?"
He was worried about that? You laughed. "I'm fine. It's not like his dick is made of steel." Again, you laughed while remembering the guy’s face whimpering but Yuta just stared at you in worry. "Are you alright? That was a solid punch." He held the side of his jaw then nodded, saying that he's fine. "Thank you for earlier and I'm sorry for what that jerk did."
"Then why did you go on a date with him?"
You sighed. "My friend said to meet him." He then chuckled. "I know, I know. I have pathetic friends." Yuta nodded, agreeing with you. "I'll have to ditch them. Do you want to be my friend?"
"I don't want to be friends, though." Your face fell that instant that made him smile, that lovely smile. You wanted to punch his face for making your heart beat so fast in your chest. Yet he doesn't want to be friends with you. "Can a man and woman be just friends?" He asked, stepping forward that there's a small distance between the two of you. "When the man is so attracted to the woman that he's jealous about her dating someone other than him?"
"You were jealous?" He nodded that made you smile. "Well, you were flirting with the female customers a lot."
Yuta chuckled. "You were jealous?" Repeating those words in the same tone as you did earlier. "It was my job.” He then stopped, “Come to think of it I just lost my job now.”
You stared at him in surprise. Is this because of what happened earlier? “Do you want me to talk to your…?”
He shook his head, smiling widely. “It’s fine. I got accepted in my dream job.” Dream job? You raised an eyebrow at him. “I’ll be a Junior Chemist at a Pharmaceutical Company.”
“A chemist?” You asked in shock. “You’re a chemist?” So that’s why he’s good at mixing drinks. Yuta nodded, chuckling at you. “You’re pretty amazing.”
He held your hand, threading your fingers together that sent butterflies to your stomach. “Then date me.” You smiled at the straightforwardness. Another reason to like him. “We can make amazing chemistry together.” You giggled and you nodded as he pulled you closer to him.
------
“Why does he look so scared of you?” Your friend asked, gesturing for the guy standing on the side and looking warily at you. The guy you once dated in the club. “Didn’t you two hit it off?”
You rolled your eyes at that. If it isn’t one of your friend’s wedding, you wouldn’t even come here. A smirk escaped your lips and you drank the white wine in your glass. “He was boasting about his seven-inch cock when it isn’t even that big.”
The girls in your group giggled, “What do you know? Are you getting laid?” You smiled innocently at that. “Oh my God! You are!” One exclaimed while the other asked repeatedly if you were dating someone, even asking who. When you said your boyfriend’s name, they looked surprised but you shrugged.
As if on cue, Yuta came inside the hall while looking around. He was wearing a suit with a dark blue tie that you got him. The girls gasped when he smiled, staring in your direction and walking to you. “He’s so handsome.” One girl whispered and you smiled widely at that, their eyes not leaving your boyfriend.
“Hi. Sorry, I’m late.” He said with a smile, wrapping his arm around your waist. He gave you a light peck on the lips then another one while giggling. “Were you drinking?” You nodded, whispering that it’s just wine. You even asked how his day at the company went when one girl lightly coughed, asking if you can introduce him to them. “Oh sorry,” He said immediately. “I’m Yuta Nakamoto, Y/N’s boyfriend.”
You smiled warmly as the girls take turns in holding his hand but you pulled him by the arm, pouting. “Excuse us.” Yuta just chuckled, whispering ‘jealous freak’ while pinching your cheek. The two of you sat by the bar counter and he started asking the bartender for vodka. He asked you what you want and you answered the same thing, making him smile. The girl in white brought two glasses of the alcoholic drink, slices of lime, and salt in one small plate.
With a flirty look, you drank the contents of the glass without breaking eye contact with him. You put the lime above your tongue, letting it linger a bit before dipping your finger on salt and sucking on it. Yuta smirked, licking his lips and glaring at you in a predatory look. You discovered it the third night you stayed in his place, the thing that turned your boyfriend on. “That’s cheating. Now I don’t know whether to take you home or take you here.”
“I don’t mind doing it here.”
“I don’t want to ruin your dress. You look so good in it.”
You stood up, leaning close to him. “I don’t have to remove my dress.” He raised an eyebrow at you as you smirked. “Did I tell you that I don’t have anything inside my dress?” You smirked before doing a small twirl to walk away from him.
The next thing you know, he was hot on your trail. “You’re really unbelievable.”
“You love me, though.”
“More than anything in this world.” He whispered against your ear before kissing the soft spot on your neck. “I’ll just show you how much when we get back home. But now, let me just drink you up.”
“I’m all yours, Yuta.” You whispered, opening the door to the restroom as his lips went to yours.

A/N: I think it’s been over a month since I posted a story, so here’s over 10k words. Enjoy! Thanks to @kerikaaria for beta reading this
Tumblr media
“Sir, you ordered a virgin.”
“Whoa, no! I didn’t even know that this was that kind of place, I mean, kudos on the confidence and I mean that in the best way because you shouldn’t be ashamed—“
“Your drink,” you interrupted, rolling your eyes. “It’s non-alcoholic. You ordered a virgin drink.”
“What? No I didn’t, I ordered a pina colada!”
“No, our menu doesn’t offer pina coladas. What you ordered was our Niño colada, which is from our non-alcoholic menu. I apologize for any inconvenience, but if this is you with a little bit of alcohol, then I think you should stick to sobriety.”
He stared at you, slack-jawed and blinking. “Why don’t you have pina coladas?”
You sighed. “We don’t stock rum.”
He made a choked sound. “The…rum…is gone?”
“Yes. The rum is gone.” You had a sinking feeling that you knew exactly what he was going to say.
“Why is the rum always gone?!” He exclaimed, flopping onto the table.
“From your behavior, I’m going to assume you’ve consumed every last drop of it, Captain Sparrow,” You replied dryly. Well, your boss was right. You were not cut out for this job. “Now, if you’re not going to order something else, I’m going to go turn in my apron and start job hunting again.”
“Wait! Wait! Do you like piña coladas?” He asked, catching the pocket of your apron.
“I swear to God, if the next words out of your mouth are anything along the lines of ‘and getting caught in the rain’ I will murder you without regret.”
His teeth clicked shut. His eyes darted over your face. “But do you?”
You took a deep breath. “I can’t stand coconut.”
“You…don’t like…coconut?” He looked horrified. “Then…coconut chicken?”
“Ew.”
“Coconut ice cream?”
“Waste of sugar and time, a lot like this conversation. I don’t like coconut. I hate it when people cook in coconut oil because saying it’s tasteless is Bull.” You crossed your arms. “New drink or what?”
He stared at you for a while, then smiled softly. “You’re too good for this job, anyway. You should work for me.”
“Excuse me?”
“Come work for me.”
“Repeating that doesn’t tell me what you’re saying.”
“I own a company. I need someone who can deal with trash like me and keep them away from me. You do not have to be polite to the trash either.” He leaned his chin on a propped-up fist. “Your job would quite honestly be saying what was on your mind and telling me and anyone else off.” He looked and sounded surprisingly sober compared to before.
“Please tell me you didn’t use piña coladas to test a potential hire.”
He grinned. “Not intentionally.”
I folded your arms, trying to gauge whether or not he was being serious. “You’re not saying this because you’re drunk, are you?”
“I’m not drunk!” He argued, eyes wide. “I’ve only had one glass of wine!”
You cringed. “At least tell me it was a large one.”
“N-not particularly.”
“Oh dude, either your acting is pretty on point, or you’re a serious lightweight and should stick to the non-alcoholic menu.” You shook your head.
His already flushed cheeks turned more red. “Wha—“ he huffed. “Do you want the job or not?”
You considered it, a little surprised you were even considering it, and shrugged. “Not sure I believe you still.”
He huffed and fumbled to pull out his wallet, fumbled more, then handed you a business card. “That’s me. Call or show up or anything. My personal cards are like golden tickets.”
You took the card warily.
The side of the cards facing you had a phone number in shimmering gold lettering, and the other side looked like a splash of summer colors—Bold black lettering spelling out his name and the name of the company.
“Hoseok Jung, CEO of HopeWorld Incorporated,” you read aloud, a little…skeptical. “If you are this person, what the heck do you want me for?”
“Honestly…I need someone sensible who won’t just try to stay on my good side. I need someone who will risk their job to threaten anyone that is being ridiculous with murder. I’m bad at that. I need a spiky person cause I’m just…I have things I’m strong on, but there are times when I just need someone to say things like they are. No bull.”
“And based on our interactions here, you think that’s me?”
He nodded. “I only played up the antics a bit.”
“Do you often hire your waitresses?”
He grinned. “No, but I have found most of my best people by chance. One other waiter, but I knew him before.”
“Your best people?”
“You’ve heard of my company?”
“Who hasn’t?”
“Then you’ve heard the names Suga, RM, and V.”
You paused. “Yes.”
“Suga and I met at a club. RM and I met in a museum, and I met V when I was at an animal shelter.” He shrugged. “We had a good rapport. I offered them jobs. My friends over there are also part of my inner circle. It would have been better if you liked piña coladas, but you should still be okay with them.”
You stared over to where his friends were goofing off in the pool. Those idiot men were part of the inner circle of one of the biggest companies ever? The company that….
Two screeched as they went into the water, losing the game of chicken.
“They are part of your brain trust? Is the one even old enough for alcohol?”
“Yeah, he just tends to pick people up when he’s buzzed.”
“So, scandal prone.”
“No, no, I mean physically lift them. Usually just us. He’s not really a social person. Just us.”
“Ah.” You weren’t sure what to make of that.
“Actually—“
“Y/n! I’m not paying you to stand around!”
“With all due respect, sir, I’m done after I finish discussing our menu with this gentleman, Sir.” You called back, then turned to Hoseok. “How much would I be paid?”
“To start...how about $16 an hour?”
You stared at him. “$16 an hour?”
“Plus benefits, we have an excellent benefits program.”
“$16 an hour?” You repeated, a little shocked and numb. Plus benefits, even if you only worked there for a week, you’d be able to cover all of your expenses.
“Alright, okay, fine, $18 an hour—but no more than that until we know if it will work out. Then we can discuss raises. Deal?” He stuck his hand out.
You considered it for a moment, then shook his hand. “Right. Okay. When do I start?”
“Tomorrow, 8 a.m.”
You nodded. “Business dress?”
He shrugged, “If you like. Just dress nicely.”
You nodded. “Fine. Okay. See you then. I have a job to quit.”
He nodded with a smile. “I look forward to working with you.”
———
If you had thought that your means of obtaining this job had been strange, nothing had prepared you for your first day working there.
You had dressed well, wearing your favorite interview outfit because it was the nicest outfit you owned and you would be shopping later today so you knew what you needed to buy.
You entered the sleek looking building, and went to the reception desk. “Hello, I was told to come in today.” You pulled out the business card and showed it to the secretary.
Her eyes widened. “Whoa. You met Mr. Jung?”
“Uhm, yes. Yes I did. And he told me to come in today, at eight.”
“Right, okay, um, let me get you a temporary I.D.so you can get around today, and you’ll have to talk to H.R. later about your permanent one. Take this, and then head up to the top floor, he’ll want you to report straight to his office. At least, that’s what protocol states.”
You nodded, absorbing the information easily. “Top floor, his office, report to HR later for a permanent ID. Return this at the end of the day?”
“Yes, thank you, and good luck on your first day!” She practically sang, going back to her computer.
You slid the ID necklace over your head and went straight for the elevator, hitting the button for the top floor.
The way she spoke was almost like she had never met the CEO, which seemed unlikely to you, but maybe you were just misreading it.
The top floor was as quiet as the rest of the building, and you had a feeling most employees didn’t start until 9. But there was faint music coming from the biggest office—the CEO’s office.
You took a breath to steady yourself and then knocked on the door.
“Come on in, y/n!”
You shook your head slightly and did as told, walking into the office.
Entering the building, you had been pleasantly surprised by the way everything seemed light and airy, with bright splashes of color in appropriate amounts in the appropriate places, making it feel less like an office and more of a...you weren’t sure what it felt like, but it felt nicer than an office.
Entering Hoseok Jung’s office had a similar effect. There were knickknacks, but they weren’t overwhelming, and splashes of color were all throughout the room, but was balanced by a sort of modern elegance of his sleek office furniture and the immense natural lighting.
“Do you like it?”
You considered it all. “It’s not to my taste, but it is well balanced and I can appreciate the aesthetic.”
He grinned. “See, you’re already doing better.”
“The receptionist acts like she’s never seen you before.”
“Oh, well, most people only see J-Hope, one of the senior workers who reports directly to Mr. Jung. That’s how I got into the business to take it over from my father.” He shrugged. “Eventually, they’ll find out that J-Hope is me, but for now, J-Hope is well-liked. My ‘brain trust’ as you called them, will be here in about half an hour, which gives us time. Come on, I’ll show you to your office. Remember, it’s not your job to make friends, it’s your job to call things as you see them.”
You shrugged. “And if that means holding my tongue?”
“Then I trust you to say something later, when you deem the time to be right.”
“You know this is crazy, right?”
He grinned. “I know that you think it’s crazy, but I’m glad you’re telling me.”
You shook your head as you followed him out, noting that he wasn’t wearing a full suit. More like slacks and a shirt that wasn’t a button-up, but also wasn’t a plain t-shirt? Very loose-fitting, possibly a few sizes too big. His slacks weren't even slack, not really. Just grey, loose-fitting pants.
“You don’t dress much like a CEO.”
He chuckled. “I know. Jimin tells me that all the time, trust me, I do when I have to. But J-Hope likes loose clothing.”
You shook your head a bit.
“This will be your office.”
“It’s right next to yours.”
“Well, you are going to be my left-hand person. Left hand office.”
You followed him into the office that was way too good to be true.
“Obviously you can decorate it as you like, outside of the desk. The desk chair you get to choose from a magazine that we use for office supplies. We also ask that you don’t break any walls or windows.”
“I have a balcony,” you breathed.
“Yeah. There’s actually a door out there that connects our balconies, my side is pretty much never locked, but you can lock your side as well.”
“Like in hotels.”
“Yes.”
“So, if I'm your left, who’s your right?”
“Suga. Yoongi. You’ll like him, I think.” He picked up a random sticky note, looking amused. “Last guy didn’t clean out very well, sorry.”
“Shouldn’t a janitor have made it in here since?”
He paused. “Oh. Yes.”
“Which makes me wonder when the last time anything up here has been cleaned.” You ran a finger over the desk, nose wrinkling in disgust at the dust on your fingers.
Hoseok’s eyes widened. “Oh no. Oh no no no.”
“I need to wash my hands,” You said, feeling a little contaminated. “Bathrooms.”
“This way.”
The bathrooms on the top floor were actual bathrooms, as in, one toilet and sink per room instead of the public bathroom style. There were three of them, mostly the same size, but one also had a larger vanity area with drawers under it.
“Oh, sorry, didn’t mean to follow you in, but this bathroom is one that we usually keep locked, so if you want to keep makeup or other things in here, no one uses the third drawer over right now.” He tapped it. “You’ll be getting a key to it later today, so you can put it in later if you need to.”
You nodded, wrinkling your nose at the smell of the soap. “Oh, you’re kidding me. Piña colada soap?”
He chuckled, scratching his neck. “You can also bring in your own soap. Yoongi does. He just hasn’t replaced his yet.”
You shook your head. “Right.”
“If it helps, it’s only that during the summer.”
“What is it in winter? Eggnog?”
He shook his head. “Cinnamon rolls.”
“Are you all trying to psychologically torture yourselves?” You asked, drying your hands. “Piña coladas when you have to work, cinnamon rolls to make yourself hungry….”
Hoseok shrugged.
You sighed. “Alright. Where to now?”
“Morning meeting.” He waved for you to follow him, and led the way down to a conference room. “Jimin and Tae bring coffee and pastries and we go over our agendas and projects. Today that will include introducing you. I do have one thing to ask, and it might be inappropriate so if it is you can just hit me—“
“Or you could just not ask it.”
He hesitated, then nodded. “Right. Yeah.”
You helped straighten the chairs, seeing the frown on his face at how disheveled the room was. “So, what will I be doing today, besides accompanying you to fire the janitor.”
He cringed. “Well, tour the company. Stop by HR. Meet the security team. Talk to the janitorial staff and threaten firing them to improve their work ethic. Then if that doesn’t work, yes, you will be there to help me fire people.”
“Sounds good. I’ll be the bad guy. You keep your J-Hope persona.” You sighed. “Really? No one caught onto you being the CEO with the name J-Hope?”
He just grinned again. “Best disguise is right under your nose.”
“The best disguise is an effective one that actually exists.”
“I’m glad I met you,” He responded with a light laugh.
“I’ve been criticizing you since I arrived.” You actually felt guilty about that, but only slightly. You weren’t about to lose sleep over it.
He just smiled. “You’ve been honest. I…I really missed honesty.”
“Your inner circle aren’t honest?”
“They are…but they’re…it’s different. Sometimes you need to shake things up. I think we all need shaking up.”
You frowned. “Okay. Level with me: what happened?”
He frowned. “What do you mean?”
“What happened to make you think that things need to be shaken up?”
His face relaxed, eyes seeming to glaze as they shifted to the meeting table. “I…uh, I lost someone I cared about. You know that cruise ship disaster?”
You nodded. “HopeWorld donated a whole lot of money to cover the bills of those injured, and help cover funeral bills for others. Some people wondered if you guys had some sort of stock in the cruise ship or had been involved in the explosion, but you were just being kind. Plus by helping them out financially they could stand up to the cruise company.”
He shrugged, but also nodded. “And I needed a reason to be there. Looking.”
“Girlfriend or boyfriend?”
He choked out a laugh. “Yeah. And my sister and her husband. And my parents. I was supposed to join them at a different port.”
You felt like you’d been sucker-punched. “Oh my God.”
“Didn’t lose all of them. My dad is still in the hospital, Mom is home but she visits him everyday.” He rubbed his neck. “My sister's husband went back to work just a week ago, and he’s not having an easy time of it, but he’s pushing on. My sister hasn’t woken up yet, but we’re still hopeful. I hope she wakes up soon. She’s the other person I always relied on to be honest with me.”
You slowly nodded. “And your…significant other?”
“Idiot died. One of the lifeboats got stuck on release. Climbed out and cut the rope. Snapped back.” He shrugged again.
“Could have been worse,” You murmured, clenching a fist. You knew that description. You gave that description.
“Ok, this is one time when maybe you shouldn’t be honest.” He rubbed his forehead.
“Hey, my step-dad died because he thought he could swallow a golf ball and decided to try when no one was home. My younger brother tail-gated a semi. My father died from a sliver after saving eight school-age children.” You shrugged. “There are all sorts of ways to go out of this world. Doing the right thing…the heroic thing, that counts for a lot in my book. But there is such a thing as stupidly heroic.”
He stared at you wide-eyed. “A…golf ball?”
You shrugged. “I believe I implied that he wasn’t intelligent.”
Hoseok snorted and then started laughing. “I-I’m sorry!”
You smiled. “Good. Your brain trust will be here soon.”
“Did he…did he really…?”
“It was a little more complicated, and there was booze involved, but essentially, yes.”
“That’s terrible.”
“Yeah.”
“Don’t sound so heartbroken.”
You shrugged. “Life goes on.”
“What does it go on from?” A new voice asked.
You turned to see one of the boys from the pool yesterday.
He looked you up and down, and offered a slight smile and his hand. “Hey. You must be the waitress that Hobi got so excited about hiring yesterday. I’m Taehyung, or, as the media knows me, V.”
You shook his hand. “Y/n. Nice to meet you.”
“Do you like Pina Coladas?” Taehyung asked, setting the box of what you assumed were pastries on the table.
“No.”
He froze a bit. “Really?”
“Really.”
“But...why? Wait...oh no...you don’t like them?” He stared at the box of pastries.
You looked at the box. “Let me guess, non-alcoholic pina colada donuts.”
“We don’t normally get them, I just saw them and I thought it’d be fun….” He looked completely dejected. “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay. I ate breakfast anyway. I had an omelet, and I have a chocolate muffin in my packed lunch in my office. So, if you would like, I can get that and you can pretend you got it specially for me because I got it from the same shop.”
He gasped. “Their chocolate muffins are amazing.”
“Do you want me to pretend?”
He considered it a moment.
“He doesn’t want everyone to be eating and not you,” Hoseok chuckled. “He’s sweet like that.”
You nodded. Did the door to my office get locked?”
Hoseok shook his head. “I left it open so that you could get in and out without your keys, and so we could send a janitor in after the meeting. Maybe put your things in our breakroom for now.”
You nodded sharply.
“I’ll get it, if that’s okay with you?” Taehyung said.
You shrugged. “Whatever floats your boat.”
He bounced a bit as he raced out.
“Good job, offering to lie on your first day.” Hoseok looked amused.
“He looked like a kicked puppy. I’m honest, not abusive and heartless. Besides, it’s more to make him feel good. Most people would figure it out, right away.”
Hoseok nodded. “I guess so.”
“It doesn’t breach my not-yet-existing contract to lie, does it?”
He shook his head. “No. It doesn’t.”
Both of you fell quiet as Taehyung came back and slipped the muffin into the box of donuts (carefully).
Then several men arrived at about the same time.
“Hi, y/n! I’m Jimin, and I wasn’t sure what you liked so I got you a chocolate crème frappuccino. Is that okay?”
You nodded, smiling. “Sounds good. Thank you.” You took the cup and studied where they were sitting before taking a seat yourself--at the left hand of Hoseok--when he indicated for you to sit there.
“For the future, what do you normally drink?”
“This,” You answered, smiling. “I try to limit my caffeine intake.”
“Great, I’ll add it to my list and we can discuss alternatives later.” Jimin opened the donut box. “Tae, what have you done?”
“Pina colada donuts,” Tae answered, grinning. “And a muffin for y/n.”
Half of the boys had already grabbed a donut, or were in the process of doing so, but all seemed to freeze a bit.
“Why a muffin for y/n?”
“I don’t like coconut,” You answered, shrugging.
“Wait...at all?” One of them asked, eyes wide.
You sighed. “Nope. That is possible, you know. Just like I’m sure the odds are in my favor that at least one of you doesn’t like seafood. One of you probably doesn’t like coffee, one of you probably doesn’t like tea, and a few of you probably don’t like mint ice-cream.”
They all seemed to be surprised and yet also guilty.
“Well….”
One huffed. “Why did you hire her again? She doesn’t even like pina coladas.”
“Not everyone does,” Hoseok replied easily. “Shall we start our morning download?”
You studied the others as they dug into their donuts, wondering where the odd obsession with pina coladas came from--not for the first time. But they weren’t the only people you’d ever met with the obsession, and you doubted they would be the last.
“Besides, it can’t hurt us to look at things other than pina coladas.”
“Please,” One of them grumbled. “I don’t want to get sick of them.”
“Fine. Then let me ask this,” the huffy one asked. “Y/n, what is your beverage of choice?”
You met his gaze evenly, calculating all of the answers he could expect and all of the answers you could give him. But one stuck out as particularly perturbing for someone like him and a situation like this.
You leaned forward, smiled slightly, and answered, “Water.”
His eyes widened and he spluttered. “Water?”
“Water,” You confirmed cheerfully. “If I have to choose anything, I choose water.”
“Great, you can be the designated driver,” Taehyung joked, amusement sparkling in his eyes.
Huffy sat down, looking like he lost five years off of his life. “No way can we do a water theme….”
“If we could get back to what we’re being paid to be here for, that’d be great,” You said, in a tone that was too sweet to be honest.
Hoseok chuckled a little. “Right. Y/n is here to keep things...possible and practical. Her job is to be bluntly and brutally honest about things. After she gets a feel for this place, I’m sure she’ll feel more comfortable giving us all a piece of her mind. She’ll be shadowing me as J-Hope, and I’m not going to announce her job title for a while.”
“Because you don’t know what to call my job?”
“Pretty much. Anyway, as you guys know, we’re...running a little thin right now, and that’s on me. We’re going to be tightening up the ship, and making sure we’re running properly. Jimin, I need finances from across the company. Tae, I need all of the reports from HR. Jin and Jungkook, I want a list and summary of all of the projects we’re working on right now. Yoongi and Namjoon: keep working on that one project. Anything I need to know right now?”
“We have that event tomorrow, with the food trucks, and we need to decide on the judges.”
“Okay, so, we let everyone who wants to judge put their name on a list, then we’ll draw names from a hat. Jimin’s on the judgement panel as well.”
“I am?”
“You’ll eat anything, the rest of us are too picky. And Jungkook will be filming.” Hoseok made a couple of notes. “I have to talk to our janitorial staff, and y/n will be with me. They haven’t been cleaning up here like they’re supposed to. Y/n’s office was disgusting, and this room was a mess.”
“Uh oh. Firing anyone?”
“He wants to see if talking to them will fix the issue first,” You said dryly. “Which, in my experience, is a waste of time. There’s always someone dragging their feet and I bet if we looked through the HR reports, or even sent me in under cover for a few hours, we’d be able to pinpoint the weak link and remove it from the chain.”
“She’s got a point. I could take her down and tell them she’s doing some work in each department. We’ve done that before, for people who were actually working for one of the departments.” Jimin clicked his pen a couple of times.
Hoseok considered it a moment while he worked on a bite of his donut, then nodded. “Alright. Then we’ll do that. You might need different clothing. If it takes more than a couple of hours, don’t worry about it. If this works, we’ll put you in different departments as though you were experiencing everything. Because I think we need a spy in the HR department as well. Plus anything you find about employee welfare and happiness, that’s always a good thing. We’ll say you’re one of Jimin’s random hires. Get it done.”
Jimin nodded, then checked you over. “They’ll give her a uniform, so we don’t need to worry about her clothing. Maybe just fix your hair so that you look more like ‘random girl’ instead of  ‘sophisticated lady’.”
“Did you just call me a lady?”
“Have you seen yourself?” Jimin shrugged.
“Anyway, finish things here, then y/n dress down and we’ll discuss your work later today. You’ll eat lunch with us, Jimin, make sure to mention that.” Hoseok wrote a couple more things down. “I’ll be in my office, reviewing things. I’ll let you know at lunch what the real plan is. We’re gonna change things.”
“Okay,” Huffy said firmly. “That’s that then. Donuts done, coffee drunk, work to do. Off we go. The sooner we work, the sooner we finish, the sooner we can get a drink.”
That seemed to be the signal for everyone to get up and get moving.
You followed Jimin out, letting him lead you to the bathroom. “Sophisticated lady?”
“Make your hair more casual, maybe remove some of your makeup. And lose the jacket.”
You sighed and did as you were told as he disappeared for a moment, returning with a different shirt and a sweater.
“Try these.”
You looked at them, a little concerned.
“They’re clean, trust me. And they’re more casual than what you’re wearing.”
You waved him out of the room again, changing into the new shirt and sweater, a little disturbed at how well they fit. “Where did you get these?” You asked, opening the door again.
“Someone left them behind. Can’t remember when, can’t remember who, just remember they didn’t work here.” He checked his own hair while you switched your hair from a bun to a nice-looking pony-tail. “Can’t even remember why her shirt and sweater were left behind. Think she borrowed one of mine?”
You stared at him. “Did you sleep with this girl?”
He turned back to you with a half-smile. “No. I was drunk, but no. My boyfriend at that time wouldn’t have been too thrilled.”
“Do you have baggage about said boyfriend as your friend does about the significant other that he lost?” You asked, studying the impish man in front of you.
Jimin’s smile died a bit. “Told you about that, did he?”
“More or less. Focused more on the ones that survived rather than the one that died. So, baggage: yes or no?”
Jimin came and stood right in front of you, then moved closer, reaching and closing the bathroom door, locking it.
You clenched a fist, just in case.
“Baggage...yes. Same ship. All of us, the whole board, everyone in there. My boyfriend...we were at the point of breaking up anyway, so I feel guilty about that, because he wouldn’t have been there if I had. Hoseok was going to propose. Namjoon’s childhood friend. Yoongi’s girlfriend was paralyzed, and her brain...she only recognizes her family and she’s...not doing well. Two of Taehyung’s friends. Jungkook’s brother. Seokjin’s whole family, except his nephew. He jokes about drinking, but he really just wants to get to the daycare at a decent time. If he knows he has to stay late, he has a babysitter that brings his nephew here. Hoseok feels a lot of responsibility because he was the one who suggested we have a board retreat and invite family and friends. Seokjin, Taehyung, Namjoon, and Jungkook were all there when it happened. Myself, Yoongi, and Hoseok were delayed because of an emergency on a project we were heading up.”
You nodded slowly. “Got it. So, this company is being run by seven people who have undergone a whole lot of trauma and grief in the past six months. That doesn’t sound at all like a recipe for disaster.” Eight, a little voice whispered, eight if you’re included.
Jimin nodded a bit. “Right. What did you lose in that accident?”
You held his gaze steadily. “The will to please others with false actions and honeyed words.”
Jimin’s head tilted slightly and his eyes narrowed just a bit.
“My older brother worked on that ship, one of the engineers. He’d been filing reports like a good little worker bee about some of the issues they were seeing, but the reports were being ignored. He was threatened, and told to keep quiet if he wanted to keep his job. He told me, I told him to fight, to make sure no one got on that damn ship.”
“But he didn’t,” Jimin whispered, gaze shifting away from you.
“But I gave the people suing that company everything they needed to win their case, especially with HopeWorld providing the financial means for everyone to fight. It was serious neglect on their part, but even I was too pliant to do anything about it. So I’m done. I’m done trying to please others and put up with their crap and if you don’t unlock that door, I’m sorry, but I might punch you.”
He unlocked it. “Right. Sorry.”
“I’ve been dealing with too many thugs from the cruise company. That’s why I was job hunting. That’s why I got that job at the bar. It was a favor that a friend called in from the owner, but they both thought I was a bad fit. I was just desperate. And then Hoseok came in drunk on one glass of wine and complaining about a virgin pina colada.”
“That’s why he wouldn’t stop talking about virgins,” Jimin muttered. “He kept saying something about virgins being confident, and that he wished he was that confident, and that he was joking about not ordering virgins and it was all weird.”
“He should not be allowed to drink.”
“Well, normally he’s a sober and sleepy drunk, so, yesterday was a bit of an outlier. Happiest I’d seen him in a while, though. Especially after he met you.” He was studying you again.
“If you have something to say, then say it. I told you, I’m not waiting around for BS.”
“You’re not like the person he lost, I can tell that right away. But you’re the first person he’s shown...interest in. I guess I’m just curious about what he saw that intrigued him so much.”
“My winning personality and barbed words,” You answered, then grabbed your wallet from your purse and tucked it into your pocket, shoving the purse into the empty drawer that Hoseok had pointed out earlier. “What was the person he lost like?”
“Soft, a little...out-there, artistic, wild dreamer, adventurous, spontaneous,” Jimin listed, then shrugged. “Different.”
You paused to look at Jimin again. “When you said he’s taken an interest in me, did you mean….”
“Possibly romantically. Not definite, but there’s always a few different paths interest in other people can take us, isn’t there. If you’re anything like I’m assuming you are, you’d actually be a good match for him.” Jimin walked out. “Now, come on. We’ve got work to do.”
-----
-----
You were undercover in HopeWorld for a week before you finally were able to return and start moving into your office--having turned in a twenty-page report on your findings while working undercover.
And it was spotlessly clean this time, and there was a computer there. It was even sporting a nice, new plant in the one corner with a card that read it was from all of the other board members.
The winky-face said that Taehyung had been in charge of delivering it and writing the note.
So you set to unpacking the small box of office supplies that you were bringing in.
You were getting a corkboard and a whiteboard later, plus two more chairs so that anyone else in your office could sit down (or you could switch seats through the day if you needed to), and you definitely planned on bringing some more plants here since it got more sunlight than your tiny flat did.
So you unpacked a couple of empty binders, sheafs of paper, a few notebooks, your new pens and pencils, and your pen and pencil holders. You set a photo-frame on your desk. You pulled out a bottle of lotion and put it in one of your desk drawers.
And that’s where you found the photo of Hoseok with the person that had to be his lover.
“Of course,” You murmured, sighing, then you set the photo aside to return to him at your meeting later.
In the past week, you’d gotten a pretty good read on most of the boys, even Yoongi.
But Seokjin was distant, and kept you distant. He didn’t stick around on the days you were in what was technically his department, instead finding an excuse to be elsewhere.
Taehyung and Jimin had both shrugged when you told them that Seokjin was avoiding you.
“Don’t see why he would,” Jimin said, and you knew he was being honest.
It was fine. The boys weren’t your job anyway. Your job was to look at things practically, find problems or potential problems, and present them to people who could fix them. Your job was to question everything so that every eventuality is considered and the best product of the workers' time is produced.
“That’s not a very big box for such a big office.”
You jumped and dropped the stapler, but jumped back so that it wouldn’t staple you on accident (something that had, unfortunately, happened before). “You trying to give me a heart attack?”
Seokjin shrugged, strolling in casually and picking it up. “Not my intention.”
“Then what is your intention?” You asked, wondering what could have brought the illusive man to your office before the morning meeting. According to the others, and your own experiences, he was always just barely on time for the meeting.
He just looked at you carefully. “Can I ask you a question, and get an honest answer?”
“Fire away,” You replied, lifting an eyebrow curiously.
He moved closer so he was looking you in the eye. “Why did you take this job?”
You frowned a bit, stepping back and trying to figure out why he was asking that. But also, how to answer.
“Please answer honestly.”
“Jimin told you about my brother, the cruise ship?”
“Yes. He told all of us, Hoseok too. Hoseok had his suspicions. I don’t think they know that you were on the ship as well.”
You huffed out a laugh and leaned against your desk. “Good. I don’t need any of that nonsense.”
He nodded. “You were answering my question.”
You took a deep breath and then released it, looking at the ceiling. “Desperation. Have to pay the rent. And he seemed...optimistic.” There was something appealing to that optimism. Something familiar and comfortable. Refreshing.
“What did he tell you your job was going to be?”
“Dealing with trash that tried to get near him.”
“What’s on your resume?”
“Nothing to make me qualify for this office. And if you think I’m here because I’m taking advantage of his kindness...I can’t say that you’re wrong, but I’m also just curious about what he intends for me. Don’t think that I enjoy saying that someone is dead weight. They’re people, and they need to make a living somehow, but they need to make that living honestly. THere are people who want jobs, who need jobs, who are actually willing to put in the work.”
“So, going undercover…?”
“It was a solution that would alleviate the feelings of guilt that our boss might have felt if we hadn’t fully investigated and ended up firing someone. Besides, he strikes me as a bit of a neat freak, so I figure the janitorial staff should be top-notch. I did hear a rumor that J-Hope had liberated a cleaning cart and taken it to the top floor, though.”
Jin sighed, shaking his head. “He really hasn’t trusted the cleaning staff since your first day.”
“Lovely. Did he clean this office?”
“Gotta admire his work ethic.”
You shook your head. “So, I’m not the only person who’s almost completely in the dark about what my job actually is, am I?”
“I think he keeps rethinking what he wants for you.”
“And you’ve been avoiding me because…?”
He shrugged a bit. “I haven’t. It’s been a bad week for my nephew. I’ve been in and out of the office all week. Plus I’ve been working with Hobi.”
You both jumped as someone banged on your office door.
Hoseok threw it open with a grin, then halted, surprised. “Oh, hyung.”
“Hey, Hoseok-y. Y/n and I were just talking. I’ll leave you two to discuss y/n’s job. Because I think we’re all confused about it.” Seokjin took one of your paperclips and left.
Hoseok looked after him in confusion. “Did he ask if he could take that paperclip?”
“Um, no, but it’s just a paperclip. You read the report?”
He nodded. “Yeah. Good work on that. Sorry you were thrown into it so soon after starting.”
“You mean my first day.”
He chuckled. “Yeah. Your first day. So, I’ve figured out what your story is going to be.”
“My story?”
“Whenever a higher-up is brought in, they’re presented to the company. There are already rumors about a higher-up being brought into Mr. Jung’s board, and it’s extremely unorthodox for us to not present you within the first two weeks. So, we’ve got a couple days leeway to get you settled into your actual job.”
“I’m pretty sure that was part of my actual job.”
“Right. Anyway, I thought we might tell people that you’re the eyes and ears of Mr. Jung, and that one of your jobs is ensuring that we are at top potential.”
“Ok.”
“Which is basically what we already said, but I want to make it clear that you are in direct communication with HR and all reports go to you at the end of the day. I’m just having trouble coming up with your title.”
“Quality manager?”
He paused. “Ok, you’re really good. How have you not worked in a job like this before?”
“Hard times, big sacrifices. So, if I’m understanding things correctly, you want me to look through the reports on behaviors and such and make sure they’re looked into and that we’re paying attention, but also you want me to check in on projects and make sure we’re asking all the right questions.”
“Exactly. Quality manager is an excellent way of describing that job. But also, your job is to keep people from trying to see Mr. Jung. Mr. Jung has enough on his plate.”
You nodded. “I can do that. Shall we practice? I read through the notes on that memory core device.”
He grinned. “Sounds great. But first, the morning meeting.”
You nodded. “Thank you for cleaning my office, by the way.”
He just smiled back. “I can’t stand messes.”
“I gathered. You’ve got a pretty big one downstairs, though.”
“Yeah, I’m kind of dreading firing people though.”
“Then let me handle it. You can be there as a known authoritative figure and I’ll do the talking.”
“They might get mad at you for spying.”
“Then I trust you to handle their subsequent anger appropriately. I’ll try to keep things professional.”
“Thanks.”
“For?”
“Even offering to do any of this. I wasn’t really ready to take on the boss position. But I can’t sit by while people abuse their place in this company. I have to deal with the messes. My family didn’t build this legacy for me to let it fall apart.” His gaze was darker, but held determination to continue forward. A sternness to see things through.
The side of J-Hope that was the CEO of HopeWorld.
“I think once you get over the first trials you’ll be just fine.”
He looked at you in surprise. “You think?”
“I believe,” you amended. “I believe you are capable of being a great leader. I believe even though you are generous and compassionate, you will be able to handle the harder parts of this job for the good of the many employees who are doing their jobs to the best of their ability. Because that’s what it means when people are fired. The waste they accumulate is returned to the company and those that are still with it can benefit, or others who need the job take it and actually accomplish it. You’re improving efficiency, which makes the company prosper so you can do more for your employees.”
He slowly nodded. “That makes sense.”
You nodded. “Look at me: I could actually afford a new work outfit.”
He grinned, looking you over. “And it’s a great outfit.”
Okay. You hadn’t expected that.
“Are you implying something inappropriate?”
“Never. I just think it’s a very appropriate look and that it is very good at accentuating your good looks. You’re very good at shopping.”
You weren’t. Not really. Taehyung and Jimin had tagged along and helped you shop because you weren’t sure what would be best for the job and position. You had picked the items out, but Jimin and Taehyung had helped you style them together and decide on them.
“Sounds inappropriate to me.”
He chuckled. “Can’t you just take the compliment? It’s early.”
“If you compliment me, people might think that you’re showing favoritism.”
“Let them,” He answered easily, shrugging and holding the door open for you.
“Are you drunk again? I told you, you really shouldn’t drink.” You folded your arms.
He just laughed. “In. We’re late.”
“If we are, it’s your fault,” You replied, walking in and waving to the other men.
“Yes, of course. I wouldn’t dream of blaming you. Morning, everyone.” Hoseok took his seat. “What’s the day look like?”
“Same as yesterday, except whatever you and y/n are up to. My project is almost ready to present, Seokjin’s coming to help me today.”
“I do have my nephew today, he’s having a bad day,” Seokjin said quietly, making notes.
“That’s fine,” Hoseok said firmly, Namjoon merely nodding. “People like seeing him, and we’ve always said that kids are welcome as long as they don’t disturb others.”
“And he can come to my office anytime,” Taehyung said with a fond grin.
Seokjin nodded. “I have a meeting with my division just before lunch?”
Taehyung grinned. “We can color!”
Jimin rolled his eyes. “Work, Taehyung. He can color, you can design.”
“Right. Right. That.”
“I need Yoongi-hyung’s help on the memory-core project.”
Hoseok looked mildly intrigued, glancing at you.
“I can head down after I check on my project. Might be an hour or so.” Yoongi checked his watch.
Hoseok nodded. “And we’ll be there in about two hours so that Y/n can look things over as my second set of eyes.”
Jungkook looked like a deer caught in the headlights. “O-oh, o-o-okay.”
The others looked mildly surprised, but quickly moved on.
“I’ll be on phone meetings to organize that event most of the morning. Our employees really enjoyed the food truck war, and it’s summer, so I think it’s best to try and have enjoyable events as frequently as possible during the weeks we can’t give them 3-day weekends.” Jimin twirled his pen as he spoke, looking over something on his planner.
“I’ll leave it in your hands, just don’t go over budget.” Hoseok jotted a few things down. “Okay. Y/n and I have to deal with some unsatisfactory employees, then we’ll be down to see how things are going with the memory core. Not sure about our afternoon, but I might leave that for her to settle in. How does that sound to you?”
“If ‘settle in’ means looking over reports, then that sounds fine.”
He nodded, flipping his book closed. “Alright. Then off we go.”
You got up and followed him out, and into the elevator.
“It’ll be best to go to them since it would draw a lot of attention to bring them up. We need the head of janitorial service with us as well, and I want to apprise her of what’s going to happen before we do it. You were smart to record the conversation, I’ll present that to Chiseul.”
Chiseul had been in charge of sanitation at the company for eight years, she was kind, but firm and had no patience for slacking. When you’d worked under her, even for a day, you could tell she expected the best. She had put who she thought were her best people in charge of cleaning the top floor, but instead they had been doing very basic cleaning and actually stealing from the company.
Her reaction to finding out was silent fury. “Are you sure you don’t want me to fire them?”
“We believe that it’s best for us to handle it, that way others will know that they can’t pull anything. I’m sorry we deceived you,” You said respectfully, because you did respect her. You’d put in your report that she should get a raise.
Hoseok nodded. “We will be implementing a system to keep people accountable soon.”
She accepted that with a sharp nod and then went to call those who would be fired into her office.
Hoseok groaned as soon as the elevator doors closed. “That could have gone better.”
------
You held the ice to your face and shrugged. “Could have gone worse. Security stepped in at the appropriate time. And I didn’t fight back, which means I can’t be charged with assault should they try anything like that. There were also multiple witnesses.”
“But you got hurt,” He argued, rubbing his face. “You got hurt.”
“So, I’ll have a black eye. I walk to work, so it’s not like I’ll be driving while mildly impaired. We got ice on it pretty quickly, and I don’t think it will end up being too bad of a black eye.”
“You got hurt,” He whispered.
“And I’m fine. Hoseok, we’re on our way to look over a major project in your company. Pull yourself together.” You reached over and straightened his collar. “It’s a bruise, not a fatal wound.”
He caught your wrist, holding you in place so he could move the ice pack with his other hand and see, the whole time his expression holding worry and what might have been nausea. “Why would they attack you? I was there too. Why would they only attack you?”
He wasn’t asking. He wasn’t listening.
“Betrayal,” You answered anyway, sighing a little and forcing the ice-pack back to your face.
“Uh, you two coming out of there or do you need another moment?” Yoongi asked, an eyebrow raised as he looked between you, not seeming to care that he’d startled both of you since you’d been too busy looking at one another to realize the elevator was open. But his gaze stuck on the ice pack. “Shit, they hit you?”
“Don’t you start too,” You groaned, exiting the elevator.
Hoseok stopped you, pulling you back so he could look at your eye again. “Hyung, look at her eye.”
Yoongi frowned a bit more, but complied. His eyes widened a bit. “Uh…infirmary.”
“Thought so.” Hoseok pulled you back into the elevator.
“Oh, come on,” You groaned.
Yoongi just shushed you. “Your eye looks bloody.”
“Oh.” Well, that was special. It didn’t especially hurt, but that might be because you were numbing the area.
But Hoseok ended up taking you to the hospital for evaluation.
As the two of you walked out of the hospital, you sighed for the fortieth time. “Told you I was fine.”
“That’s not what he said.”
“He said that I should be fine and to come back in if my eye gets worse or I start having other issues. It was probably her ring that got me.” You glanced at your watch. “Man, I’m not going to experience a regular workday, am I?”
His head dropped. “Sorry.”
“Not your fault. I’d probably get bored if it got too quiet. And feeling sorry doesn’t do any good. You didn’t hurt me, so you’re wasting energy by being sorry.”
“I know, but I got you into this job—“
“Are you thirsty?” You asked, stopping.
“What?”
“Are you thirsty?” You asked slowly.
“Um, I guess?”
You nodded and pulled him into the restaurant, dragging him to the bar.
“I don’t think you should have alcohol—“
“Hi, can I get a water with lemon and a Piña colada?” You asked the bartender, ignoring Hoseok. You had no intention of drinking, but Hoseok was so tense it was making you tense.
He stared at the piña colada. “What?”
“Drink. You’re driving me crazy. You need to relax and I doubt you’re going to do it on your own. I’ll make sure you don’t end up in a back alley.” You patted his hand.
“So…if you could drink, what would it be?” He asked.
“Probably a gimlet, with extra lime. But like I said, my preferred drink is water. I like to keep my head clear. There’s less golf-ball swallowing.”
He snorted and choked on his second sip of his drink.
You patted his back as he tried to recover from choking, and he was laughing in between coughing which wasn’t helping at all.
The bartender was looking concerned.
“His wife left him for his sister and his brother in law confessed his love to him, it’s a royal mess,” you told him, rolling your eyes.
Hoseok died a little more. “Stop,” He gasped, finally just laughing.
“It’s not my fault he thinks your butt is cute.”
He collapsed off of the stool, thudding to the ground and laughing harder.
“Man, two sips and you’re already drunk. You better not ask me if I like that nastiness again.”
He got up with your help, starting to calm down. “I won’t ask that.”
“Good. But seriously, I’m cutting you off. You’re too much of a lightweight.” You settled the bill with some extra for the bartender, then guided him toward the door.
But both of you stopped at the door.
“It’s raining?” Hoseok asked, still a little breathless.
“It would appear so.” You looked up at the sky.
“Do you like getting caught in the rain?” He asked quietly, holding out his hand.
You laughed softly, taking his hand. “I actually really do.”
“Really?” He smiled as he laced his fingers with yours.
“Really,” You confirmed, looking out at the rain with a little excitement.
“You might ruin your clothing.”
“Clothing washes, as do I.” You tugged and pulled him out into the rain, giggling as the rain started soaking into you.
He laughed as well, looking less comfortable in the rain, but like he was willing to let you lead him through it.
No.
Like he would follow you into anything.
“Why did you offer me the job?” You asked.
He met your gaze with surprise.
“Why me?”
He smiled at you, stepping closer so he could be heard. “I couldn’t say goodbye.”
You tilted your head.
“I couldn’t say goodbye to you, not at that time, and I don’t know why, but I’m trying to figure it out.”
You could work with that.
Hoseok touched your cheek, then moved in.
You knew your eyes were a little wide.
He gave a slight smile and then leaned in to kiss you.
You allowed it, and you didn’t regret it as his lips met yours. It was…new. Different. Right.
Except for one tiny detail.
You pushed him away gently. “Okay. But you need a new go-to drink because I forgot to mention I’m actually allergic to coconut, so, I’m gonna take some allergy meds now.”
His eyes widened. “I like mimosas and daiquiri.”
You nodded, swallowing an allergy pill. “Great. We won’t kill me, then.”
“How allergic are you?”
You shrugged. “I should be fine now.”
“Okay.”
“So, if you want to kiss me, we can do that again.”
He met your gaze, smiling. “That sounds like a bad idea.”
You rolled your eyes, then pulled him in. “Kiss me.”
He grinned. “Man, I love your honesty.”
And in the rain, you kissed your piña colada man, ignoring what might happen in your future.
“Might not be a permanent job, my judgement might be clouded. I might show favoritism.”
“Then call me a consultant pending permanent employment and depending where this takes us we’ll…let the others decide my fate.”
“Works for me. Let me walk you home. Where do you live?”
You gestured vaguely. “That way. About fifteen minutes from your building. Work. Place.”
“When you said you were a virgin—”
“I never said I was a—walk. We’re getting soaked standing here like idiots and I hear thunder.” You started walking, keeping hold of his hand. “That or I start reevaluating what parts you really need.”
He laughed. “You know what’s funny?”
“No.”
“When you’re actually being honest, your hands relax, and when you’re bluffing, they get all tense.”
Huh.
“What is your biggest concern with the memory core?”
You considered it for a moment. “It could just be a matter of wording.”
“That’s still important.”
“The proposal suggests imprinting all of the memories of the player onto the memory core so that full immersion is more stimulating.”
“Right.”
“But it’s wording makes it sound like the game is replacing their memories. Imagine someone overwrites the data: what happens when the player tries to re-immerse themselves?”
He was quiet for a while. “That…could be….”
“Disastrous. This machine is supposed to work with your brain, but corrupted files could shut the brain down or damage it. It is incredibly dangerous if I’m understanding it correctly.”
“It could hurt people. We have to tick every box. And come up with fail safes.”
“To me, it’s not worth the risk. But that’s why I wanted to talk to them, to make sure I was understanding things.” You gestured to a building. “This is me.”
He nodded, only following when you tugged on his hand. “Are you sure you want me—”
“We’re soaked and the wind is picking up, and—” lightning flashed through the sky, “the storm is getting worse. We’ll call you a cab or something.”
“Right. Inside. Good idea.”
You ditched your shoes the moment you got in, rushing to the bathroom to grab towels so the two of you didn’t drip all over everything. “It’s a bit hot in here, sorry, my AC broke.”
“Just means we’re not going to get chilled,” He answered, taking the towel and looking around. “It’s nice.”
You glanced around as well. You’d opted for minimalism since that was the only way to make the place not feel claustrophobic. “It does the job.”
“So, you’re allergic to coconut?”
“Mostly the consumption, but I do have mild reactions externally as well.”
“How’d you find out?”
“Coconut hair treatment with my friend when I was fifteen. They had to cut my hair off because my scalp blistered and broke out and it was…traumatizing. But that was because it was coconut oil right against my skin for over an hour, undiluted. My daily allergy meds help if I happen to use, I don’t know, soap with coconut in it.” You put the kettle on the stove since you were feeling kind of chilled. “Tea?”
“Sure.” He started examining the photos on your wall (all three of them). “So, if I hadn’t been the last straw for that job, where do you think you’d be right now?”
“Dumping a scotch-neat on my boss’s head, if not down his pants, after quitting and looking for a job with less drunk people. My boss was drunk, my coworkers were drunk, everyone was drunk, except me. Do you know how surreal that feels?”
“And yet you accepted a job from me, someone who was drunk?”
“So you admit it,” You pointed out.
He rubbed his neck. “I usually only drink in the evenings, it generally makes me sleepy.”
“You had caffeine with your alcohol, then.”
“Accidentally.”
“That would explain the whole ‘why is the rum always gone’ debacle.”
He was very red looking in profile, but that could have been the lighting. “Yeah. I was embarrassed as I did it and yet I didn’t stop. Stupid.”
“If I hadn’t been having a terrible night, I probably would have enjoyed the reference, honestly. But, as you put it, you were the last straw. I would probably be applying to fast food right about now if it hadn’t been you.” You watched him studying your photos far longer than they were worth studying. “Are my photos that interesting?”
“These three were the ones you consciously decided to display, which means they mean something to you.”
You thought about that for a moment, thinking about all of the photos of families that the people you’d worked under while spying had shown you. Always the kids, always the wife, always the beloved pet.
But Hoseok had no photos in his office.
“You don’t keep any photos visible in your office, and office photos are, arguably, the ones that provide the most insight into people,” You countered, sitting on the floor with the tray of tea on the coffee table.
He joined you on the floor. “It’s a precaution. I keep the photos in J-Hope’s desk, the locked drawer. I’m surprised you noticed, though.”
“I wouldn’t have, but people kept shoving their photos in my face and if they weren’t, then I was redirecting their attention to their photos so I would get away with my snooping. People like to talk about themselves.”
He was watching you, a soft smile on his face. “You really are something else.”
You shrugged. “Don’t know what to tell you there.”
“We could hide it, you know. Us, whatever we are?”
“Professional flirtation,” You guessed, holding the mug and surprised at how cold your fingers had been. “Workday dalliance?”
“Wow, um, anyway, we could just not tell anyone about us.”
“9 to 5 lovers,” You quipped, trying to come up with more.
“Are you purposefully ignoring me?”
“Ye-es,” You dragged out, trying to think of another thing to call it.
“You don’t think we could?”
“I think the boys would figure it out before the morning meeting ended.”
“Oh, right, I didn’t mean from the boys.”
“Oh, ok, please continue.” You leaned on your hand and watched him.
“We stay away from anything unprofessional at work, with the exception of in private, and we make sure no one catches on. Then, when I officially take my position...we reevaluate where we are and adjust accordingly.”
“Officially take your position?”
“Technically, I’m not yet the CEO, my father is, but I’ve been acting CEO for about three years.”
He didn’t add that they had been the most prosperous three years of the company’s history, but maybe he was trying to stay humble.
“So, once he’s better and we finish a few things, he’ll hand over things to me officially. In front of the company.”
“Revealing that J-Hope is actually his son and everyone’s boss.”
He nodded. “Which would also be revealing that you have been working for me.”
“All of which could be potentially disastrous.
“Yeah.” He sighed. “I bet you’d say I should have been open about it the whole time.”
“Not at all. I think this was the best course of action. Everyone respects J-Hope, they like him. They like his work ethic, they like how he listens, and they like how he cares. They like how bright and cheerful he is. They don’t know if they can trust their CEO, but they know that the board has been taking care of them and the CEO has been allowing it. They’re curious, and a little apprehensive.” You remembered all of the conversations you’d had over the week.
But one stuck out to you.
You’d been getting coffee with one of the employees in the marketing department, discussing the company and it’s leadership.
“I don’t know about the CEO. Or, well,” She flustered for a second. “I don’t know why he feels the need to hide from us. His father never did, but maybe there’s a plan. Every now and then, they have someone who sort of...scopes things out. They had me in project development for a couple of weeks so that I could tell them what I thought of the person that was testing the projects. That person was Mr. Jeon.”
You’d tilted your head, confused.
“Jeon Jungkook, he’s one of the board members, the youngest board member. He’s really good at catching on, which makes him a prime test subject for things that are about to be released. We can’t bring people in, not often, because information tends to get leaked. He’s been a godsend to the company. Mr. Jung found him, too, he’s found just about every top employee, and all of the board members--except J-Hope. He worked his way up through the company, and then impressed Mr. Jung Sr. and was given a job on the board. He looks after employee welfare and we’ve had an amazing increase in our benefits program ever since. It’s a shame Mr. Jung Jr. didn’t start out like J-Hope.”
“What’s that look for?”
You jumped a bit, refocusing on him. “All of the things that J-Hope has done are your accomplishments. You’ve improved the benefits program, upgraded the retirement package, made sure that everyone has received pay increases, and you worked your way up through the company. Your intellect lies in people, and your devotion to your job as their employer has inspired loyalty to you. I’m not saying you should go out tomorrow and reveal that you’re Mr. Jung Jr.”
“Do they really call me that?” He cringed.
“But you shouldn’t fear...telling them who you are. Yes, it could cause problems, but only momentarily. Until then, you want me to help you deal with trash and question everything so that the ship is running tightly when the official transfer happens. Right?” You asked, sitting up straight. “That way if anything happens with stocks, or the market, the company is running smoothly and will stay afloat.”
“You have a business degree, don’t you?”
“I never graduated,” You corrected easily. “But I did study some business, yes. This is what you want from me, correct?”
“Yes. I need you to tell me to suck it up when I hesitate.”
“Okay. Did you read my report on the other departments?”
He nodded slowly.
“Then I suggest you decide what should be done to those employees, and what you’re actually willing to do. Because I outlined my suggestions for each of them, but ultimately, it is up to you. You want to run a tight ship, you need to get rid of excess crew, which sounds terrible, but it’s true. If they’re not doing their job, they have no reason to be on deck. And some of them were on the wrong decks.”
He nodded. “I’ll review it once more, but we’ll probably go with your suggested actions.”
“Okay. Glad we understand each other.” You grabbed your phone, checking it. “Taehyung wants to know if I’m alive, and if I’m alive, is Hoseok alive as well.”
“Crap,” He went into his pocket. “Oh. They just wanted to go drinking. Taehyung is our usual designated driver. He’s not a big drinker like Jungkook and Jimin. I’m going to ask him to swing by and pick me up. If that’s okay.”
“Why wouldn’t it be?”
He shrugged. “I didn’t know how you felt about where you lived. You’re kind of hard to read.”
“I live here, I pay the rent, it’s small, but it’s mine. Or were you referring more to a bunch of men knowing where I, a single woman, lived?”
“The latter.”
“Ah, sweet of you to be concerned, but Jimin’s already seen my place.”
“He has?” Hoseok frowned.
“He dropped me off after we went shopping. None of the stores had bathrooms. Nature called.” You shrugged.
“I don’t like that,” Hoseok muttered, obviously more to himself.
“You don’t like that he had to use the bathroom? Or that we went shopping together? Because, technically, he was the only board member I was allowed to be seen with as one of his employment experiments.” You pointed out, waiting for him to pull himself together and continue texting Taehyung. “Also, you might want to text him before it’s too late.”
“That he saw your house.”
“Interesting. Text Taehyung,” You instructed carefully. “Before you have to pay for a cab.”
He did, but he was frowning the whole time.
You rolled your eyes. “Jimin was here for all of five minutes. I doubt he could even tell you what color the walls in the bathroom are.”
“Color,” He muttered, getting up and heading to the small hall.
“Um….”
“Purple. Walls are purple. Take that.”
“Oh my god, there is no way you’re even buzzed, why are you acting weird?”
“Purple. Blue. White. Three pictures.”
You rolled your eyes, and shook your head. “Weirdo. I mean, I knew that, only weird people like pina coladas--”
He caught you and kissed you again. “Don’t let Jimin in. He’s a minx. He’s a fox. That magic trickster fox that seduces you. A succubus.”
“Incubus,” you corrected. “Which is a sort of demon. Magical fox thing is a kitsune. You’re mixing your mythologies.”
“You’re so smart,” He said, but he said it in a sort of happy, sighing way while looking at you so softly and gently and adoringly….
You believed him.
He touched your cheek, then quickly pulled his hands away. “Alright. How about a rule?”
“Depends on the rule,” You replied.
“You have good judgement, and self control,” His gaze shifted to your eye, and his fingers brushed the edge of the bruising with a feather-light touch, “So, I want there to be a rule that at work, any...personal things between us are initiated by you. Which means you can shut me down at any time, anyway you feel necessary.”
“You mean, like asking you about your ex?”
“Ouch,” He muttered, looking down. “Yeah. Sure. What do you want to know?”
“Am I replacing your ex?”
He shook his head. “Not even remotely.”
“I’m in their office.”
He looked up, then shook his head. “No, you’re in my mom’s old office. Yesuel never worked at HopeWorld. Too much of a free-spirit.”
“But you loved them all the same.”
“I did. I thought I did. Love is...tricky.”
“Are you ready for another significant other?” You asked.
He met your gaze, holding it. “Do you like getting lost in the rain?”
You smiled. “You know I do.”
“Then you know I am,” He replied easily, fingers resting under your chin. “Are you going to be okay, with your eye like that? They did say it could get worse, and if it does….”
“Are you asking if you can stay? Because you’d have to borrow clothing, or live in a blanket until your clothing is dry. I don’t have much that would fit you.”
“I’m worried about you. I’ll stay on the couch.” He touched a strand of your still-damp hair. “Eye injuries are dangerous.”
“Didn’t you already tell Taehyung to come pick you up?”
He shook his head. “I was just going to walk down to work and get my car and pretend that Taehyung picked me up.”
You hit him lightly. “And if you got struck by lightning?”
“My company would be in good hands,” He answered, shrugging slightly. “But I would miss out on a few things. But you can get hit by lightning and live.”
“Not well,” You argued, frowning.
He gently ran a thumb over your eyebrow, as though to ease away your frown. “Besides, I was already struck by you. I don’t think anything could knock me off my feet like that, I don’t think anything ever has. You’re new and unique. And I want to know everything I can about you. Even if you don’t like pina coladas. Even if you are a virgin.”
You rolled your eyes. “You’re ridiculous.”
“And you’re addicted to it,” He replied easily, smirking at you.
And yes.
You were.
It was crazy, but you were completely addicted to the banter with him, the way he smiled while you were grumbling, the way he asked what you thought of things and actually listened. You liked his gentleness and compassion.
He brought hope back to your world.
“I agree to your rule,” You whispered.
Hoseok grinned and kissed you.
Your future was going to be crazy...but maybe the consistency of his smile was enough to get you through.

“I’m not going,” Alani says finally, discarding the outfit in her hands onto a pile on her bed. The clock reads 7:55 pm, only five minutes before she was supposed to be at the studio. She still hadn’t selected an outfit, but her hair and makeup were still relatively intact from her shift at the café.
“You have to!” Pua whines. “You told him you would!”
“Then I’ll tell him I’m sick or something—food poisoning. Period cramps, maybe,”
She begins placing the clothes on hangers to put back in her closet, but her sister reaches for her wrists to stop her.
“You’re just nervous,” Pua says calmly, getting eye level with her older sister. “But you’ll regret it if you don’t go,”
“Go where?” a woman’s voice calls from the door frame. Their mother, Estrella, peeks her head through the cracked door.
“To a party with a cute boy,” Pua explains.
Alani shoots an icy glare at her sister before turning back to her mom. “It’s not a party. I’m working on a piece about a local musician and he’s recording some music tonight and said I could go. You know, to write about it,”
Estrella nods, not convinced. “So why don’t you wanna to go?”
“Because they almost kissed—”
“Pua!”
“Hey, hey,” Estrella cuts in. “Mija, you’re twenty-two years old, I don’t expect you to stay single forever. If you want to go out and see a cute boy, you don’t need to lie about it,”
“But I’m not lying,” Alani defends. “It’s just… complicated, and I’m trying to be professional about it.”
Estrella steps away from the doorframe and envelops her daughter in a hug. “Sometimes, you just have to do what feels right and hope for the best,”
Alani is grateful for the piece of wisdom from her mother, feeling a small weight lifted off her shoulders.
“But if I were you,” her mom continues. “I would wear the black strappy dress with those wedges.”
********
8:10. Harry checks his phone for the third time in one minute, growing more disappointed each time the same three numbers stare back at him, almost mocking. He doesn’t feel any better when the time reads 8:11.
“Can I interest you in a piña colada?” Mitch pipes up, sauntering over with a glass in each hand.
The choice of drink seemed perfect when Harry had suggested it earlier in the day, but he deeply regrets it now. Despite the tightening at the back of his throat, Harry accepts the drink and chooses to nurse it in a different corner of the room. A part of him feels guilty for being such a buzzkill around his friends these days, and he wishes more than anything that he could just enjoy living in this moment with them. Being away from Alani had produced a strange feeling in him similar to the sickness experienced when leaving home on a long vacation; Harry didn’t know exactly how to cure it, but he hoped that lots of alcohol would do the trick.
When the clock reads 8:20, he accepts that she isn’t coming and decides to make the best of a shitty situation. He drains another piña colada and joins his friends who are huddled around various instruments and sound equipment. A few more of Harry’s writer and producer friends had joined the trip temporarily, and he’s grateful, now more than ever, for their presence—it distracts him from the overwhelming emptiness in the pit of his stomach. Jeff hands Harry a microphone and some headphones while Mitch plugs a white electric guitar into the amp. The guitarist begins with some chords that the crew has been messing around with for the past couple of days: an upbeat riff reminiscent of some of Harry’s favorite 70s rock pieces. His head is spinning mildly, but he uses the feeling as inspiration. He pinches his eyes shut and tries to let the lyrics flow, but the only words coming out are “she’s driving me crazy”, so he starts with that. The group also runs with it, adding a few yells and lyrics of their own. The song isn’t coherent in the slightest, filled mostly with laughter and choppy melodies, but it’s the best Harry has felt all night. He traded the piña coladas for a glass of tequila fit snugly in the palm of his hand, and true to Mitch’s word, the giggles emerge. At one point, he shouts the words “I’m havin’ your baby”, which makes zero sense to anyone in the room, including him, but they decide that it sounds cool and keep it going.
“It’s none of your business!” Mitch calls back, voice raised in his best soprano to mimic that of a woman. The shoddy attempt makes Harry laugh even harder and his hand clutches his stomach.
They continue on for what feels like hours, but in reality has only been forty-five minutes. At 9:05, Jeff Azoff heads outside to catch his breath and cool down. As he takes a seat on the steps, a yellow Ford Bronco pulls into the lot and Alani steps out once it's parked. She emerges in a black dress that falls mid thigh and a baby pink leather jacket, making her way nervously up the steps.
“Alani,” Jeff greets warmly with cheeks flushed. “Welcome. Party’s inside.”
She shoots him a grateful smile and reaches for the studio door, slipping inside cautiously. The music had been audible a mile down the road, but it’s even more overwhelming inside. Standing on a small coffee table in the center of the room is Harry with an arm draped around a shorter man wearing a black and white Adidas shirt. His dimples are on full display and his warbled words carry over the speakers to attack her from all sides. She recognizes Mitch hunched over a guitar and Jeff Bhasker spinning in an office chair, but she can’t put names to the other faces lingering around Harry. Alani feels extremely out of place, not knowing where she belongs in all of the chaos—it all seems to her like a living Jackson Pollock painting that she can’t look away from. In the middle of his off-key rendition of Wannabe by the Spice Girls, Harry’s eyes land on Alani and his smile grows ten times wider. He puts one foot in front of the other, completely disregarding the small size of the table, but he catches himself just as Alani lunges forward to help him. This results in their two bodies pressed flush against one another, the coolness of her leather jacket versus the warmth of his intoxication.
“You made it,” he slurs.
Alani takes a small step back and clears her throat. “Yeah. Sorry I’m late,”
“Don’ worry ‘bout it,” Harry shrugs, his eyes lighting up when he remembers something. “There’s piña coladas! In the kitchen,”
The fact that he remembered such a detail from their previous conversations and made an effort to incorporate it into this night makes her cheeks warm.
“Okay, cool. Thanks,”
Harry scans her appearance and his stomach flutters.
“Y’look really pretty,” he offers. Alani can tell that it takes every ounce of effort to do so.
“Thank you,” she murmurs, voice small.
“Wanna get some fresh air?”
“Yes, please.”
The two of them slip out through a side door and into the backyard, stopping just before the pier. Alani doesn’t know how much of these next moments Harry will remember in the morning, which makes her feel a little more confident to share what she’s truly thinking.
“Harry, I—”
“God, you’re so pretty,” he interrupts, running a hand through his hair.
Her cheeks heat up, but she pushes past the feeling. “And you’re drunk,”
“Yeah, true. But you’re still pretty. Always think so,”
Alani searches his eyes, which are sleepy and bloodshot, but there isn’t a trace of insincerity. In this moment, she also feels the overwhelming urge to be honest—about the butterflies in her stomach that only set flight when he’s around, and the way she constantly wonders what his lips would feel like against hers. But there’s an intensity behind Harry’s gaze, despite his intoxicate state, that stops her.
“You’re making this so hard,” Alani laughs lightly, more to herself than him.
“‘M sorry,” he offers. “Don’t mean to,”
She smiles at Harry’s completely innocent reply, not knowing what to do with all of the pent up affection she has for him. A part of her simply wants to scream in his face to stop being so goddamn endearing. Instead, Alani turns on her heel to put some space between them, but stops when she feels a warm hand tug at her fingers.
“Why d’you always do that?” Harry asks, his expression a little more sober.
Alani takes a deep breath. “Do what?”
“Pull away when I get close. Did it in the car that one time. And the other time at the beach,”
There’s a beat of silence where Alani isn’t sure how to respond, but before she does, Harry releases her fingers and takes a step back.
“Wait, that was stupid. ‘M sorry if I did anything—”
“No,” Alani interrupts, taking a step closer. “You haven’t done anything wrong,”
“So why?”
She releases a breath and swallows. “I don’t know,”
It isn’t the answer Harry is looking for, but he accepts it with a slow nod. Suddenly feeling the need to flee, he takes a step onto the railing of the pier and Alani’s heart rate speeds up.
“What’re you doing?”
“S’hard to tell,” he shrugs before letting himself fall into the water below.
“Harry!” she screams, heaving over the edge of the railing to find him. The drop, unbeknownst to her, is only six feet and he’s done it many times before.
After a few seconds, Alani sees him reemerge at the surface, shaking his wet hair out. There’s a small strip of sand along the shore below, so she bolts down the stairs to meet him at the bottom.
“What the fuck?!” She cries, panic welling in the brim of her eyes. “Why did you do that?”
“I don’t know,” he deadpans.
“You could’ve hurt yourself,” Alani croaks, her limbs shaking. “You—you could’ve—”
Harry reaches out to comfort her but she steps back.
“I gotta go,”
“Alani,” he says gently, but she doesn’t respond. “Alani, wait!”
She walks briskly back to the front lot, Harry close behind.
“Alani, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—”
“Don’t follow me.” she orders.
Her words are like a dagger through his chest, but he respects her wishes and stops dead in his tracks. Harry stands soaking wet under the moonlight, feeling helpless as he watches Alani disappear into the darkness.
********
She wakes the next morning with puffy eyes and a heavy heart, still wearing the same black dress from the night before. The warm water of a morning bath eases some of the tension in her muscles, but she knows it will take a lot more to soothe the tightness in her chest.
Why do you always do that?
Do what?
Pull away.
Their conversation from the night before lingers like a nasty bruise in Alani’s mind, but she senses a bit of harsh truth in Harry’s words. She did have a bad habit of walking away when things got hard, especially concerning matters of the heart. Her instincts were all flight and no fight, so even if Alani had stayed, she isn’t sure how she would’ve explained her reasons for panicking. How do I gently pepper in the whole almost dying thing? she wonders, a lump forming at the back of her throat. Alani was only eight years-old when she nearly drowned, and though almost fourteen years had passed since then, she still vividly remembers the helplessness of sinking further under the strong tide. On nights after a particularly stressful day, Alani’s sleep is often disturbed by the sensation of her lungs slowly filling with water only to wake up drenched in sweat and clutching the sheets. She had worked hard for several years after the incident to overcome her fear of the ocean, but a part of her still couldn’t shed the debilitating need for caution. After all, it was easier to avoid the water altogether than to wade in blindly and get sucked under. Watching Harry sink into the unknown stirred the same sense of panic that Alani had felt all those years ago and threatened to undo her progress, but she quickly realized that it was the idea of losing him that had sent her into flight mode. She imagines the hollowness she would feel at the sight of waterfalls and the scent of vanilla; piña coladas—the drink and the song—tainted in her memory forever. The thought of Harry's absence was all too much to bear, but it’s how she knew that his presence must mean something. He meant something, and she couldn’t let him go.She ends her bath quickly and sifts through the first pair of clothes she can find. Suddenly none of it mattered: what she wore, how she looked, Rolling Stone—nothing but him. Alani thinks back to her mother’s words: sometimes you just have to do what feels right and hope for the best. All she needed to do was see him and the words would find themselves. The sky is overcast when she steps outside, so she quickly puts the top on Stevie and pulls out into the road, deciding to make one quick pit-stop before setting off to find him.
********
Harry’s head pounds and he feels as if the sun has been set to maximum brightness. His clothes reek of saltwater, his skin feels like sandpaper, and his mouth is the Sahara desert. None of this compares, however, to the sense of impending doom that settles in when the memories of the night before, particularly those of Alani, resurface. I’m so fucked, he groans. Harry doesn’t quite remember every detail, but he remembers enough; he remembers how pretty she looked, and reminding her of it. He feels the temporary warmth of her fingers and the coolness of her jacket pressed against his chest. There’s a bit of fuzziness between the Spice Girls and piña coladas, but then Harry remembers crashing through water and his memory gets clearer. He fucked up. He had upset Alani in some way and although he doesn’t quite know how, he knows that he would spend the rest of his life trying to make up for it. Harry sits up suddenly and the whole room spins, but he makes an effort to stand anyway. Need to see Alani, he thinks with determination, I just need to see Alani.
“Good morning, sleeping beauty,” Mitch comments from the kitchen table, nursing a cup of coffee.
“What time is it?” Harry croaks.
Mitch takes a sip of coffee and checks his phone. “10:30,”
“And last night was…”
“The party?” Mitch fills in the gaps. “Yeah,”
Harry rubs his eyes with the heels of his hands and takes a seat at the table. “Did...did you see Alani?”
“No. I don’t think anyone did, actually. Did you?”
“Yeah,”
“So… I’m assuming it didn’t go well?”
Harry’s throat tightens and he hopes that she at least got home safely. He can’t bear to think about anything bad happening to her on his watch.
“No,” he confirms with a sigh. “No it didn’t,”
“Are you gonna go talk to her?” Mitch prods.
“Dunno if I should. She was pretty pissed,”
Mitch thinks for a second, taking another sip of coffee. “What would Noah Calhoun do?”
Under normal circumstances, Harry would be very amused by his friend’s reference to The Notebook, but right now he’s too focused on making things right with Alani. He devises a plan of action and stands.
“On a scale of one to ten,” he starts. “How shitty do I look?”
Mitch scans his best friend over, head tilting from side to side as he considers the question. “About a 7.5.”
“Good enough.”
Harry swipes the keys to the Cadillac off the counter and slips his feet into a pair of beat up vans before heading out the door.
********
The restaurant is fairly empty, as far as Alani can tell from the back. The kitchen staff are gathered in the break room for the time being, which allows her to tiptoe around unnoticed as she grabs the necessary ingredients for her peace offering to Harry. She hurries out through the employee entrance as soon as it’s complete and the key is already turning in her car’s lock when she hears a voice over her shoulder, calling her name.
“David?” she responds, turning to face the brawny man leaning against the car that is parked beside hers.
“Hey,” he starts, offering a flash of pearly white teeth. “I know I’m not supposed to be back here, but I just wanted to talk to you,”
Alani swallows, the icy chill of the drink in her hands reminding her of what needs to be done.
“You know, now’s not really a gr—”
“I haven't stopped thinking about you,” David interrupts, taking a step closer. “Since the other day when you stopped by. I mean, I think about you all the time but…” he trails off and Alani waits awkwardly for him to finish his ill-timed confession. David takes another step towards her and rests his forearm against the hood of her car, practically boxing her in with no escape route.
“We were really great together, don’t you think?” he asks, scanning her face with his prying eyes. “I don’t even remember why we broke things off,”
Alani’s brow furrows, her mind failing to come up with a logical explanation for this very sudden and uncomfortable conversation. She hadn’t lied when she told Harry that David wasn’t her ex, but she hadn’t been entirely honest, either. They had started hooking up during her senior year of high school—mostly because he was the star swimmer on their team that all the other girls fawned over, and despite all the attention, he had wanted her. It made her feel momentarily special, though she knew he wasn’t the boyfriend type. “Just a bit of fun” is what they called it, and the arrangement worked out well until Alani’s freshman year of college when she realized that there was an entire world of opportunities waiting beyond the confines of high school. A world that had brought her Harry, who was probably going to leave just as soon as he’d arrived if she didn’t make amends quickly.
“No,” Alani says decisively, nudging his arm away. “We weren’t ‘great’ together, we weren’t even good for each other,”
“Alani-”
“We were really young,” she continues. “And we did what we did, but that’s all in the past-”
“If you would just give me a chance-”
“I didn’t even know what I wanted for myself back then, let alone what I wanted out of a partner. But I do now,”
She doesn’t have to say Harry’s name, but they’re both thinking it. David steps back, arms crossed, and though he had always been somewhat intimidating, he looks small standing before her now.
“It’s because of that British guy, isn’t it?” he asks, despite the feeling that he already knows the answer.
Alani lets out a light laugh but she doesn’t confirm his suspicions. “We have nothing in common, David. We want different things out of life, you’ll see,”
“And he,” David continues, an accusatory tone on the word “he”. “Wants everything you do?”
She thinks for a moment, her heart pounding as she considers what Harry’s response will be to her confession. “I hope so.”
********
Harry had considered going to Alani’s house first, but he wasn’t sure who else would be home and didn’t particularly want his first interaction with her parents to occur whilst hungover. Sitting parked on the back road behind the café, however, he wishes that he had stopped there first to save him the painful sight ahead. Harry recognizes the other man from the restaurant he had taken Alani to the first time they had hung out, a name that started with the letter “D," though probably not the one flashing angrily in his mind. His arm is draped comfortably along the roof of her car, their bodies inches apart in what appears to be a very intimate moment. While he still can’t remember the exact details of his actions that had upset Alani so much, he fits this piece into the puzzle and it becomes much more clear. She has a boyfriend, and no amount of apologies could reconcile this fact, however tempted Harry may be to try. The word “boyfriend” sits uncomfortably in his mind, but it suddenly puts everything else into perspective. It explains why she fled his car so quickly when his wandering eyes had hinted their desire for her kiss—both times. He could have sworn that it would have happened had her phone not interrupted them the second time, but perhaps it had all been a trick of the rose-colored light. The sudden realization makes Harry feel sick, and a bit foolish, so he speeds off before he can be spotted.
He drives aimlessly for a while, mind still racing with the image of the other man’s depraved hands on Alani’s soft skin. The uneasiness boiling in the pit of his stomach is pathetic—he’s well aware—but he can’t stop himself from wondering why not me? It’s a selfish thought, but it eats at him, nonetheless. It should have been me. But the reality is that it wasn’t him, and it never would be. Despite any feelings he’d had that Alani was the one for him, he was not the one for her, and it’s a fact he must learn to live with. If this thought were a rock, he’d turn it over in his fingers until they bled.
********
Alani pulls up to the studio hesitantly and waits a beat before making her way up the stairs. She knocks twice, but there’s no answer, so she presses her ear to the door in search of any sound. Silence. There’s no trace of the cars Harry usually drives when she wanders to the back lot, either, so she figures that he must not be here. Alani racks her brain for other possible locations, but it’s a dead end. She doesn’t know what hotel or house he could be staying at, and her heart begins to race at the idea that he might not even be in Hawaii anymore. For all she knows, he could be on a return flight to L.A. or London, gone forever with the same instructions she had left him: don’t follow me. Alani lifts her phone with trembling fingers and searches Harry’s name, pressing the phone to her ear and praying like she had never prayed before. It rings three times before she’s sent to voicemail. The sound of his voice on the recording brings temporary relief, but it’s gone as soon as the message ends and she is prompted to respond. She clears her throat gently and speaks as if he is at the other end waiting to hear the right words and pick up.
“Hi, it’s Alani,” she starts slowly. “I, uh…. I’m at the studio. I don’t think you’re here though,”
She walks in small circles around the backyard and lets her eyes roam to the pier where it all went wrong. It sends a pang of guilt through her spine, but it fuels her next words.
“Listen, I really wanna talk—about last night. I shouldn’t have left, I know that now. It wasn’t you, it was me, and I know that sounds cliché but it’s true,”
Alani swallows down the emotion bubbling at the back of her throat and wishes that she could just see him, face to face, one last time. There’s so much more she needs to say, but it’s a conversation she doesn’t want to have with his answering machine.
“Please just call me when you get this. I wanna explain everything if you’ll let me.”
She hangs up and nearly throws her phone into the ocean. Though her trauma response wasn’t completely in her control and it isn’t something she should feel guilty about, she wishes she had been able to explain. Alani hadn’t always been comfortable sharing that part of her life, but there was a security in Harry’s presence that made her feel okay to do so. She wanted to share everything with him, the good and the bad, but she needed to find him first.
Only twenty minutes had elapsed at the studio when Alani decides to head out; there was still no word from Harry and she needed to be anywhere else beside the site of their potential last meeting. She drives with no particular place in mind, the windows rolled down to let in the chilly, overcast air. It isn’t until she’s halfway in the opposite direction that she gets the urge to visit one other location. There’s an extremely small chance that Harry will be there, but she goes less in search of him and more for her own personal wallowing.
When Alani pulls up to the lookout where the two of them had spotted the rainbow, there is another car already parked: a pink Cadillac. The sight makes her entire body freeze.
“Harry?” a small voice calls behind him. He almost thinks that he had hallucinated it until he reluctantly turns his head and sees a timid Alani emerging from her car. A million emotions run through his mind at once, starting with confusion and elation and ultimately ending in grief.
“Hey,” he responds, weakly, still leaning against the hood of the Cadillac.
Alani slowly makes her way over, not entirely sure that he’s actually there. Once she gets closer, however, she can smell the faint scent of vanilla and her chest swells.
“I left you a voicemail,” is all she can say.
Harry’s brow furrows as he tries to remember any phone calls, but he suddenly figures that in all of his rush to see her, he had forgotten to grab it from his bed.
“Left my phone at the house,” he offers.
There’s a brief silence where the two of them size each other up, weighing their own motives against what they assume to be the other person’s. Harry speaks first.
“Alani, ‘m really sorry,” he says gently, stepping away from the car and towards her. “I know I fucked up—”
“Harry—”
“But I understand now,” he continues. “I know why you were upset,”
Confusion settles into Alani’s body and she wonders how he could possibly know about her accident. Or if he didn’t know, what else he could be referring to. She doesn’t have to guess for long because Harry continues despite her silence.
“I saw you with him—your boyfriend, I mean. Derek?” he explains. “But not in a creepy way I just.. wanted to talk. Bad timing,”
“Wait,” Alani cuts in, her brain finally sorting out the pieces. “You saw me and David..today?”
Harry feels as if the knife in his chest has been twisted further at the mention of the other man’s name, but he nods. An uncontrollable bubble of laughter finds its way up Alani’s throat, and the sound would typically bring butterflies to his stomach, but it only exacerbates the heartache.
“He’s not my boyfriend,” Alani clarifies. “He’s delusional. And a huge pain in the ass, but I think he finally got the hint when I turned him down earlier,”
Harry’s ears perk up at the news, but he’s still wary.
“But you two were—”
“Ancient history,” Alani reassures him, taking another step closer. “He might as well be Socrates,”
A faint smile tugs at the corners of Harry’s lips and he feels a wave of relief wash over his body. The news is music to his ears, but he still wants to know what he had done to make her walk away that night.
“So you weren’t upset because you have a boyfriend and I tried to make a move?”
Alani takes a deep breath, knowing that she has avoided saying her piece long enough. Before she can start, though, a rumble of thunder interrupts her thoughts.
“Can we talk in Stevie? I don’t feel like standing in wet socks again,” she asks, which Harry obliges.
The two climb into the truck and settle in, the atmosphere quickly becoming more intimate than Alani had planned. His vanilla cologne has also become more perceptible in the confined space, and there’s a whiff of spearmint, most likely his gum, that briefly draws her attention to his mouth. She snaps her mind back to the conversation at hand and clears her throat.
“I’m sorry,” she begins, reading his eyes carefully. There’s a faint reassurance behind the emerald surface, so she continues. “For everything that happened last night. You did nothing wrong, please know that,”
Harry wishes he could reach out and comfort her, but he gets the feeling that whatever she’s about to say is important so he doesn’t want to dismiss it.
“It’s hard for me, sometimes, to be around the water,” Alani continues despite the prickling feeling in her eyes. “Because when I was eight years old, I almost drowned,”
The revelation hits Harry like a ton of bricks and all at once he understands. He hadn’t even thought twice about jumping into the water that night, so it didn’t occur to him to rule that out as a possible offense. He understands now that he couldn’t have been more mistaken.
“And I know that has nothing to do with you,” Alani explains, her voice wavering ever so slightly. “Except that it terrified me to think about, you know… if you hadn’t been so lucky,”
Her composure quickly cracks, a single tear spilling down her cheek before she wipes it away with the sleeve of her sweater. This time, Harry does reach a hand out and Alani accepts it gratefully; the warmth of his fingers are a welcome contrast to her icy appendages.
“You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to,” he murmurs as his thumb rubs small circles over the back of her hand.
“But I do,” she sniffles. “Because—”
Alani pauses, unsure of how to finish her thought. Just do what feels right and hope for the best.
“Because I care about you,” she says finally, noticing the way his Adam’s apple bobs at her words.
Harry's jaw tightens at her confession and every muscle in his body longs to bring her close, leaving no inch of space between them, but he lets her lead despite his instincts.
"But it’s also because I care about you that I can’t let this go any further,”
Alani’s words surprise herself just as much as they terrify Harry, but she knows that it’s the right thing to do as soon as it’s done.
“Alani—” Harry starts, all of his worst fears crashing down on him.
“Please, don’t make this harder—”
“Don’t I get a say?” he questions, tightening his grip on her hand, though she still manages to slip away.
Alani runs the free hand through her still damp waves and lets another tear roll down her cheek. “What is there left to say?”
“How about ‘I care about you, too’? How about ‘I want to be with you’?”
“It’s too messy—”
“Everyone has baggage,” Harry defends. “God knows I do, and I would never ask you to carry all of that,”
Alani lets her eyes meet his again; they’re bloodshot and glossy, which sends a pang of guilt and sorrow through her entire body.
“You don’t know what you’re asking,” she reasons, this time thinking not only about her own issues, but about everything—the lies she had told and the ambitions she was still nurturing. She hadn’t given up on her dreams and unless Rolling Stone had suddenly changed their mind about the Joni Mitchell piece, there was only one way she was going to achieve them. Alani hadn’t yet reconciled the fact that she would have to put aside her own feelings for Harry to get what she wanted, but she knew that time would heal the wounds.
“All I want,” he continues. “Is a chance. And I know nothing I do will ever change the past, but two hands make the load lighter. So, please, let me carry some of that with you. Give me a chance,”
As she studies the pleading in his eyes, something stirs deeply inside Alani’s chest. She had started the day thinking only of him, but with selfish intentions. Now, she was trying to do right by him, having realized that she couldn’t have both him and the story that would launch her career. Something would have to give, and Harry deserved more than that. He deserved more than her. Despite all of this awareness, there is something else nagging in the back of her mind that she can’t ignore. Don’t walk away, it screams. If Alani ignored her true feelings for Harry and refused his plea, she would be walking away from someone who believed in her, someone who cared deeply for, and wanted to understand, her. Perhaps the universe truly had brought Harry for a story, but to be a part of hers instead of the one she had been so eager to publish. There would be other chances, just like Dr. Hudson had said, but there would never be anyone else like Harry. So with this in mind, Alani decides to stop walking away and stand still, right in this very moment, with the boy who shined brighter than the sun itself and who had only asked for a chance to make her happy.
“Okay,” she breathes and it’s like the weight of the universe has been lifted from her shoulders.
Harry leans in, their foreheads pressed together gently, and cups her cheek in his hand.
“Can I kiss you?” he whispers.
Alani nods and nudges the tip of his nose with her own. “Please.”
Their lips meet like electrically charged magnets, with a force so natural and strong it sends bolts of electrons through their entire bodies. Harry’s mouth is warm and gentle against hers, and the coolness of his mint gum soothes the searing touch of his kiss. Alani’s fingers glide up his chest and along the sides of his neck, pulling him closer as if he’s the anchor keeping her from floating away into the dark clouds above them. Over and over again, their lips collide fervently, breaths mixing and filling each other’s lungs. Their hands eagerly explore the curves of each other’s faces, the softness of hair, and the occasional heat of exposed skin. Harry is the first to break the kiss, panting lightly as he pulls back to search Alani’s face.
“Y’okay?” he asks.
“Never been better.”

Tumblr media
“Hello, Zuko here. Welcome back to our channel. So tomorrow we’re going to Hawaii and we’re gonna take you guys with us.” Zuko said as he shot finger guns to the camera. “Right now, M/N is in the bathroom packing the last bit of his things. He’s a procrastinator.” Zuko commented. “YOU ACT LIKE YOU DIDN’T WAKE UP AT 5AM TO EVEN START PACKING.” M/N’s voice yelled from the bathroom. “He’s a liar don’t listen to him. He’s hangry.” Zuko said as he smiled.
“I’m hangry?” M/N walked to him. “Hey hey wait.” Zuko said as he turned the camera to record him. “C’mere. Imma teach you a lesson, boy.” M/N said as he rolled up his sleeves. “No wait you don’t haVE TO.” Zuko squealed as M/N threw him over his shoulder. “PUT ME DOWN!” Zuko yelled as he banged his fists on his back. “Nah you can’t talk mess like that and expect me to not attack you.” M/N teased as he walked out of frame. Zuko yelped as M/N dropped him in a chair. He started tickling him. Zuko busted out laughing. “B-Babe no!” Zuko exclaimed as he rolled the chair back. He slid back into frame with M/N tickling his sides. “Shut up and feel my wrath, pretty boy.” M/N cackled as Zuko squirmed around.
“I’m gonna piss my PANTS STOP.” Zuko cried out between laughs. M/N stopped and pressed a kiss to his lips. Zuko hummed with a soft smile. “We’re gonna edit that out?” Zuko asked. “Keep it in. They deserve to see how cute you look when you laugh.” M/N said. Zuko scoffed and slapped his arm. “Shut up. My image will be ruined.” Zuko said dramatically. “What image? You realize our fans have edits of you smiling and laughing?” M/N said as Zuko looked at him. “They do?” He whispered. M/N snorted. “Yeah they do. You’re on Twitter everyday, Zu. What do you think those profile pictures are?” M/N whispered back, amused. M/N watched as Zuko furrowed his eyebrows. He started laughing when Zuko’s face dropped. “Cut the camera, deadass. I’m an idiot, hold on.” Zuko whined as he ran a hand down his face. M/N kneeled down laughing. “It wasn’t that funny stop itttt.” Zuko said as he used his hand to cover his face. He gently kicked M/N’s side, causing him to wheeze.
“I’m turning off the camera. See you guys tomorrow, I’m tired of getting clowned.” Zuko mumbled with a small smile. “It’s just that you looked so fucking confused, I couldn’t handle it.” M/N cried. “Bye.” Zuko said as M/N raised his hand to wave. He covered the camera with his hand.
—————————-
M/N uncovered the camera with his hand. “And we’re back at the asscrack of dawn. It’s M/N here. Our plane is at 6am and we’re up at 3am. I already hate life.” He said as he wiped his eye. “Same here. Also why are you still wearing that bandana you can put on your durag. Isn’t that better for you?” Zuko commented as he looked at the f/c bandana. “Nigga why you still wearing that shirt you can put on your hoodie. Isn’t that better for you?” M/N said as he looked at Zuko. Zuko scrunched his nose and pushed M/N’s face away. “This is why we don’t speak early in the morning. His mouth is so rude.” Zuko whined. “You fell in love with me because of this mouth, sir.” M/N said. “Shush.” Zuko said as he covered M/N’s mouth. “Kinky.” His muffled voice said. Zuko groaned and wiped his hand off on M/N’s hoodie.
“I hate you.”
“Stop lying to yourself. You love me.”
“Yeah.... Unfortunately.”
“Unfortunately?? Guess I’ll just run away then.”
“Have fun.”
“You’re an asshole.” M/N chuckled. Zuko hummed with a smile. “But please change that bandana you look goofy with it.” Zuko said. “Garsh.” M/N commented as he set the camera down. He ducked out of frame and went to grab his durag. Zuko fixed his messy bun and threw on a hoodie. “Is that mine?” M/N asked from out of frame. “Yeah. Cry about it.” Zuko said, earning a pillow to the face. “Bitch.”
“Hoe.”
“Slut.”
“Cougar.”
“Whore.”
“Dumbass.”
“Clown.”
“Oh we’re talking about ourselves now?” M/N said with a false sense of surpise. “Low blow you lil shit.” Zuko grumbled. “I’m leaving you and asking Sokka to come with me instead.” He said. “Tah. You think Sokka’s gonna wake up at 3:30 in the morning on a Saturday? He’d skin you alive.” M/N commented. “Somewhere in the distant he woke up sneezing.” Zuko said dramatically. M/N chuckled. He picked up the camera and adjusted his backpack strap. “Autobots roll out.” He said, making Zuko rolled his eyes. “See yall in the airport, teehee.” M/N said as he held his hand up. “Did you have to say teehee like that.” Zuko said. “Stop shitting on my parade before I fart on your pillow.” M/N said. “You’re disgusting, why do I date you?” Zuko grimaced. “Because you’re stupidly in love with me and you’re whipped for my stupid ass.” M/N sang.
“N. e. ways. Before I was so rudely interrupted by this big baby—”
“I’m NOT a baby.”
“Uh I’m not finished—”
“I’m a grown MAN.”
“Oh my god, can you let me do what I need to do.”
“Go on.”
“Okay damn. As I was sayin—”
“I just think—”
“I’m gonna beat you with a tiki torch, Zuko. Shut UP. Let me do the fucking transition, fireboy.”
Zuko bit his lip to hide his smile. M/N huffed before smiling at the camera. Zuko waved. “See y’all in a few!” M/N said before covering the camera with his hand.
——————————
Zuko uncovered the camera. “Well hello there again. We’re in the airport now. It’s too bright in here.” He said quietly. “This tastes like shit. Like it makes me depressed even drinking it but caffeine.” M/N said as he grimaced at the taste. “I told you to not buy that brand. You don’t listen.” Zuko commented as he balanced the camera ontop of his suitcase. “It’s not even brand coffee.” He mumbled. “What is it then?” Zuko asked as he fixed his bun. “You wanna try?” He asked as he handed him the cup. Zuko took a sip and gagged. “That’s gonna give you some type of heart disease what the fuck is that? It tastes horrible!” Zuko exclaimed as he pushed the cup away. “Just a shit ton of caffeine shots and 5 hour energy.” M/N said.
“Jesus fucking christ. How do you drink that crap? Give that to me. I’m getting you actual coffee so you don’t die of high blood pressure before the age of 50.” Zuko said, snatching the cup away. “Zukooooo.” M/N whined. Zuko stood up. “This is basically gasoline. As a matter of fact, no more coffee for you. I’m supposed to be the coffee addict but this here is death in a cup. I’m getting you go gurt or some shit.” He said as he left. “He’s a hater he just took my gasoline.” M/N whined. He sucked his teeth and grimaced. “It was pure fuel. Can you get high off of caffeine? I mean it is an adrenaline.” He said as he fixed his durag.
Soon Zuko came back with a water bottle and a smoothie. He sat down. “Drink some water to wash that god awful mix out.” Zuko said, tossing it to him. “You couldn’t hand it to me?” M/N mumbled as he opened it and drank some, swishing it around his mouth before drinking it. “What flavour’s the smoothie?” He asked. “Piña colada.” Zuko said as he gave it to him. “But aren’t we gonna have that in Hawaii?” He asked again. “Stop complaining before I take it.” Zuko groaned. M/N shook his head before drinking the smoothie. “See you guys soon.” Zuko said, covering the camera.
———————————
There was a montage of Zuko and M/N, going through baggage claim and boarding the plane before Zuko turned the camera to face them. They waved at the camera. Zuko covered it again.
———————————
M/N uncovered the camera. “Hey girl hey, I’m in a plane.” He said. “That was awful.” Zuko grumbled as he adjusted his seatbelt. “When will you brighten up? Is it because you’re pastey?” M/N asked. “Pastey? I’m not pastey.” Zuko said. “You need some vitamin D? The sun? That good ol melanin? Cuz your panties are in a twist.” M/N teased. Zuko only rolled his eyes.
———————————
M/N recorded the plane taking lift off. There was a monatage of the plane getting higher and higher off the ground till clouds started to show. He turned the camera to show him and Zuko. Zuko rubbed his eye and waved. M/N only smiled and pressed a kiss to Zuko’s cheek. Zuko closed his eyes and smiled. He covered the camera.
———————————
He uncovered the camera to show Zuko hugging his arm while sleeping. He cooed. “See how cute he is when he sleeps? Lil chubby ass cheeks. Lookin like a dumpling. I can’t even turn on my laptop because he’s hugging my arm. He’s just so....” M/N trailed off to fondly smile at him. He pressed a kiss ontop of Zuko’s head. “Since I’m editing this video before it comes out y’all gonna see some real mushy shit because we are simply two stupid guys in love. I know some of y’all just gon eat this shit up. See y’all in Hawaii.” He said softly before covering the camera.
————————————
Zuko uncovered the camera. “We’re in a car and M/N’s out like a light.” He said as he showed M/N’s head on his shoulder. “I like him when he’s quiet sometimes. S’nice. Forgot to mention we’re in Hawaii now.” He said as he showed the scenery that passed them by as they sat in the cab. “I can practically feel the jet lag so we’ll probably stop filming after we show you our hotel room and continue tomorrow.” Zuko said, leaning his cheek ontop of M/N’s head. “We’ll be back.” He said before swiping his hand down the camera.
———————————
Zuko’s hand swiped down the camera revealing their shoes walking down the sidewalk. There was a montage of them walking into the hotel, checking in, going up the elevator and walking to their room.
——————————-
“Time for the big reveal.” M/N said as he held the keycard. Zuko hummed as he swiped the keycard and opened the door. They gasped as they looked at how cute the room was. “Bro... this is...” M/N said as he held the door open for Zuko. He walked inside showing the camera the whole room. “Cute.” Zuko mumbled. “Better than our room.” M/N said as he closed the door. M/N placed his luggage in the corner of the room and plopped down on the bed belly first. “Holy shit, Zu baby come HERE.” His muffled voice said. “Why what happened?” Zuko asked as he went to sit on the bed. “Oh my god.” He said.
“I know. Yeah no we’re gonna sleep and cuddle the rest of the day cut the camera.” M/N said as he turned to lay on his back. He kicked his shoes off and pulled Zuko down. Zuko squealed before he moved his head to lay ontop of M/N’s. He kicked his shoes off. “Welp. We’re gonna knock out. Bye.” Zuko said with a smile. M/N waved and covered the camera.

Son of Notus | Demigod!Ten
Tumblr media
Parent Deity: Notus ( God of the Southern Winds)
Allegiance: Aether
asldkfjaslkj Airhead much
Okay he is actually really smart
But he hates showing it because he doesn’t want to be stuck up
Like top of his meteorology class
But also top of of his modern dance class
He really likes dancing
It makes him feel like he is flying
Which is the best feeling in the world if you ask him
Kinda found out he was a demigod on accident, but he doesn’t even know he is a demigod asldfkgj
LIKE IT WAS A MAJOR ACCIDENT
So maybe he got a little too heated in an argument and a desk was flown into a wall
And he didn’t touch the desk
Notus is known for being the most temperamental of the Wind Gods
And it definitely passed on to his son
Oops
But he is also probably one of the most laid back of his friends beside Johnny
His personality really changes depending on who he is around
He likes to act silly around Taeyong and Yuta because seriously those two need to take a chill pill and down it with a Piña Colada
But when he is around his half-siblings and younger demigods he turns really protective really fast
And when he is around say Johnny or Chenle or Haechan he becomes the somber one because someone needs to stay calm when those three are together
So he actually got brought to camp rather forcefully
Because apparently when a monster is hot on your tail it tries to directs you to other demigods
Which is exactly what happened
Remember that desk that flew into a wall, well the person he was arguing with was actually a cyclops shrouded by the Veil
Good job, Ten
And the monster chased him all the way to the camp
But like he wasn’t claimed yet and had only known about his powers for a few mere hours, the poor boy
So he crossed the borders to camp and suddenly the cyclops stopped chasing after him? But he was open in the middle of the woods?
Until he turned around and he saw this huge green field with a pavilion and a lake and what looked like 50+ cabins in the distance and an amphitheater
And he was even more terrified because what in hell is this place and how could I not see it before
And suddenly this young girl who was probably around 5 years old with green skin came up and latched onto his leg
And now he’s even more scared bEcAUSEe GreEEN SkiN
But then a normal human walks up to him and sees the cyclops outside the border and kinda just goes oh, new demigod? Have you been claimed?
And honestly he is ready to pass out
Which he does
So apparently after he passed out (the little girl started crying because the cute man is hurt) that random demigod called for help and helped carry him to the pavilion before calling the Apollo/Achelios Camp Leader to check him out
After he woke up it took him a realllllly long time to process everything
And that night when he went to sleep in the Hermes cabin he was still super confused and kinda scared. Because did his mom know where he was? His cellphone dropped into a river while he was being chased. Did he even know where he was? Was he a freak? A million thoughts were running through his head at once
After barely sleeping a wink he woke up to an blow horn and 3 campers cackling around his bunk
Which got him mad and when he clenched his fist the blown horn popped
Oops
So basically he was in the Hermes cabin for around 3 months because no one had claimed him but he had also shown powers limited to demigods so he definitely wasn’t an outsider
And he actually got into the swing of things
Archery was cool, he was okay at it
He didn’t like swords that much but he could survive
But wow, flying on a pegasus? That was the best feeling in the world
He loved the go to the track and fly around after dinner until midnight
And suddenly one day while he was training with his pegasus, Tadd, he got bucked off the saddle while everyone was watching
It was at least 30 feet high
And he landed on his damn feet
And the next thing he knew he had a shining silver cloud erupting in flames over his head
And a voice in the back of his middle, deep, gruff and spiky was talking to him about how he was ready to face the challenges as the son of a god, a specific god: Notus
And Ten was really happy, so was everyone else because 1) they had never had a son of Notus here before and 2) Everyone could tell Ten couldn’t wait until the day he found out who his father was
So Ten has probably been at this camp the longest except for Jaemin but that’s a long story
And the one thing he does do during the summer is go out into society to look for other demigods
Which was how he met you. He had tracked you to a small town outside of Seoul and you were just like any other person
Music blasting in your ears as you walked down the street, humming along, eyes glued to your phone
And he almost thought that he had tracked the wrong person
Until he noticed your little obsession with gold.
Not like you were robbing banks and jewelry stores but as he got closer to you in order to bring you to the camp he realized you like to sew clothes with gold colored thread, Your jacket had gold embroidering. Your phone case was gold
When he brought it up you just laughed and said that your mom had told you all your life that gold was your dad’s favorite color and for a while you used to use it to give a connection to him but soon it became your favorite color as well.
And one day while he was meeting you up for coffee at a local donut shop, he noticed a shadow out of the corner of his eye but decided to ignore it
2 hours later he was gripping your hand running down an alleyway trying to pull drachma out of his pocket so he could hitch a ride back to camp and away from the Griffin currently chasing you down
Apparently waiters don’t like it when you try to send cold coffee back
He finally got you in a Hermes Cab and spent the entire time to the camp explaining what had happened
Let’s just say you took it a lot better than he did and didn’t have to be carried inside the camp borders
He was about to take you to the Hermes cabin when a Sun and Lyre appeared simultaneously above your head
You had been claimed by Apollo in the mere 5 hours you had been aware that you were a demigod
And Ten had to admit, he was jealous, why did he have to wait 3 months when you had to wait 5 hours
But he was also happy because he knows the feeling of finding a missing part about the puzzle that was a demigod’s life
So he goes and introduces you to your half-siblings and you immediately fit in
And he usually leaves new campers here, their cabins will take care of them now, but he doesn’t want to leave you
But has to because Johnny keeps Iris messaging him from the Aether Cabin about some party he needs help setting up
And to his dismay it seems like you don’t even notice him leaving
Or even his presence for the next 3 weeks because you have been getting along with your siblings really well
But one day Johnny is throwing another party and it spread across the entire camp, but he just wasn’t feeling it
He seemed even more bitter about the party than Taeyong
And you were there of course, talking with Sicheng (your Camp Leader) and Taeyong but kept noticing Ten just sitting in the corner reading a book? It was about modern dance okay
So you excuse yourself from Tae and Sicheng to go and plop down next to Ten
They were both totally giving you wiggly brows and side eyes
But he looked up from the book, startled to see you sitting across from him
You were the first one to speak
You're usually the life of the party, what’s going on?
Just not feeling it
It was easy to tell he didn’t want to talk about it, at least to you
So right as he went to pick up the book again you cut it
ThankYouForFindingMeAndBringingMeHereAndIReallyOweYouBecauseYouSavedMyLifeAndIDon’tKnowHowToRepayYou
*Breathe*
AndI’mEvenMoreSorryAboutAvoidingYouBecauseIDidn’tKnowWhatToSayAndYouKindaMakeMeNervousBecauseIThinkYouAreCute
And you realized what you said right after you said it causing you to jump out of your seat, racing pasting a chuckling Sicheng and Haechan while blushing
Did I mention Ten is also Track Captain at camp because Wind Gods are super fast and that passes on to him and Johnny just hates running
So he caught up to you right in front of the lake holding your arm
I think you are cute too
And he leans down, kissing your cheek
And he walks you to the Apollo Cabin, kissing your cheek again before going back to his own cabin
It’s the first night since his first day at camp that he can’t sleep
But he doesn’t mind it this time
They think I’m cute too. *cue unmanly giggling at 4 am followed by a pillow thrown from Johnny’s side of the room*
And the next day it’s back to when you didn’t know you were a demigod
You and Ten are practically joined at the hip
While he helps you with agility and reflex you help him with archery
And you both are great flyers
And while he practices dance, you play the harp to create simple melody for him to follow
You guys really just compliment each other in every way
Making you the perfect team
Especially when chariot racing is on the table
You are a much better marksman than he is and he is a much better driver than you lol
So basically every time you 2 team up for racing
No one else wants to join because they know you will win
So the Camp Director forces you two to be on separate teams with in your own cabins
Which means you are paired with Sicheng, who is a great driver and an even better shot
And Ten is stuck with Johnny, dear god
Actually Johnny is really good with a Javelin and Sword so you know you are going to have to watch out for him
And you two get competitive
Remember how I said you make a perfect team?
You might make better enemies lmao
Ten tried to drive your chariot off the track so you Stuck a javelin in his back piston
Sicheng fired a flaming arrow into their hold so Johnny sawed through half of your reins
In the end you won
Shhhh, Ten wants a recount
Okay but he is really excited, jumping out of the chariot and racing over to you while Sicheng is trying to pull at your arm to go to the pavilion to be crowned with a golden laurel
And Johnny is silently sulking on the second place pedestal
But once you and Sicheng are hoisted onto the first place platform and you are crowned he is screaming and hollering and just overall being a really supportive boyfriend
But when you guys go onto the track competition he whoops your ass and doesn’t think twice about it
But you are there in the crowd screaming and hollering and being an overall supportive girlfriend
And later that night the camp decides to hold a sorta dance to commemorate the competitions and their winners
And everyone takes it seriously
Like after a straight week of pushing each other into mud and water and falling of pegasi in the sky and pushing your way through monster infested forests
Everyone wants to dress up and be slightly classy
So the Aphrodite and Eros houses have had boys and girls alike weaving in and out of their common areas because they offered to help everyone look their best for this event
And you and Ten agreed to not reveal your outfits to each other until you met up at the pavilion
And you were in a light blue dress that you got an Aphrodite kid to enchant so it would look like clouds moving around the ripples in the dress
And Ten was in a flowy gold top, half tucked into slacks and a couple buttons undone. An Eros kid temporarily threaded his hair with gold
BEST DRESSED COUPLE ANYONE
So basically he forces you into the middle of the dance floor and does that cheesy slow dance in the middle of everyone else jumping around and headbanging
But DJ!Mark totally notices so he switches the song to a self composed one that has a nice melody to it and soft vocals so he can create the mood for you two
And you are both slightly swaying to the music, nothing too fancy, definitely not what everyone was expecting from Ten
But you have you head on his shoulder, his hand encaptured in yours with his other on your waist as you both whisper a small conversation
And he mentions he’s met Apollo once
Which totally shocks and scares you… because he’s met your dad? The god?
But he just chuckles under his breath, and whispers in your ear about how he made Ten promise to never hurt you or he would face the full wrath of a god
Which got you even more scared because Ten… pls dont get hurt
But he laughs under his breath again and lets go of your hand to pull something out of his back pocket
And it’s a charm bracelet with a lyre and a cloud on it with a cursive T too
And as he slips it onto your wrist
He whispers about how he told your dad that he would quicker marry you than hurt you
a n y w a y s
Ten is a really soft bf and demigod and person in general
Unless it comes to hurting someone he loves
Then he can and will seriously injure someone
But other than that
Everyone looks up to him
Not just because he has been there forever
But because he has shown he has what it takes to protect the camp and how much everyone in it means to him
Especially you

Character: Bakugou Katsuki
Type: Scenario. Angst
Tumblr media
Bakugou Katsuki
Tumblr media
Normally, these kinds of situations only happened in movies and tv shows.
It's a rainy night and your phone suddenly rings and oh — it's your ex, and he's drunk, outside in the pouring rain and needs to talk.
Yeah, it's an over-used plot device, which only happened in movies.
So why the fuck were you staring at your soaking wet ex, who stood on your front door.
Five months.
It's been five months since your break up with Bakugou, and since you both worked at the same agency and had friends in common, you decided to keep contact and remain as friends. Of course, things weren't the same anymore, and even though you tried your very best to keep things civil, was just impossible sometimes.
Fights between both of you were frequent. Over jealousy and past mistakes. Bakugou knew exactly how to get under your skin, and you knew exactly what to say to make up shut up.
Things ended up becoming sour between you, and it's been a month since you last saw him.
You thought you were over him already. At least that's what you told yourself every night, in a desperate attempt to make it become reality as soon as possible.
The truth is, you weren't over Bakugou. You tried to convince yourself that you didn't get jealous when he mentioned other women, that you don't miss him, and that you don't need him. But the truth is, you really wanted the relationship to work.
And all of those feelings came in like a flood at the sight of his soaked body, leaning to your doorframe for support.
"It's 1 AM Bakugou..." You whisper, trying to not wake up your neighbors. "What is so important that you need to come over at this hour?" While your voice might sound calm and collected, you were actually trying your best to make this situation end as quick as possible.
But Bakugou didn't answer and just stared down at your figure,
The cold wind from outside sent shivers down your spine. The rain was still pouring and even the blanket you brought with you for emotional support wasn't able to protect you from the cold.
"Look, I don't have time for this-" “I wish I didn’t love you so much.” The words that left the blond's lips were enough to shut you up.
You knew Bakugou was drunk. He had to be if he was talking about his feelings so openly. It's not like he didn't open up frequently when you were dating, but once again, things became sour and you were used to him masking his feelings once again.
But you had to admit you were shocked by the sudden confession.
You were glad for not being the only one who wasn't over the break up, but you also knew the chances of going back together were slim. Once he woke up the next morning he'd take back every single thing he said and blame it on the alcohol.
"Bakugou, you're drunk." You couldn't help but chuckle at his scrunched eyebrows as he glared at you for telling him he was drunk to his face. "You're going to regret this in the morning, so I advise you to go back home."
"Your laugh is still... enjoyable to listen to." His words came out slurred and you noticed him avert his gaze, the already noticeable blush on his cheeks become even redder. "Just listen, I'm not going to regret this."
Your knees felt like jelly and your heartbeat quickened. Bakugou knew exactly what to do and say to make you feel like this.
His sudden compliment over your laugh, and the way his voice became softer as he asked you to listen just made your brain leave the conversation and your heart took full control.
"We were both wrong. We fucked up and we could've handled our problems better." He says, his gaze going back to you. "But, it's been 5 months already and I can't seem to get over you. It's not that I just can't but I don't want to."
Bakugou got closer to you, now halfway through your front door. You back away, allowing him to enter what was once your shared apartment.
"You're all that I fucking dream about. You hurt me so well" He whispers. "But you make me feel even better."
Once you realized, you were against your kitchen counter, one of Bakugou's reached up to your cheek, gently caressing it, while his other hand rested on top of the counter.
Your mind was racing, but not one of your thoughts was saying to push him away. You wanted to see what he was going to do, and you hoped it was the same as you were thinking.
Without another word, Bakugou closed the space between both you.
His lips still tasted like coconut, probably from the piña coladas he was drinking earlier. The kiss was sweet. Not only in flavor — but it also felt sweet, Bakugou's movements were also nothing like you were used to. He was usually a rougher kisser, but this time he seemed to be taking his time savoring every moment. He lightly sucked on your lower lip, as if asking permission for entrance, which you granted.
The hand that was previously resting on the kitchen counter made it's way to your waist, pulling your closer, and you used this opportunity to swing your arms around his neck.
Before things could get even deeper, Bakugou broke up the kiss sighing at the sudden emptiness he felt. He gave you one last peck before resting his forehead on yours.
"Let's try this again."

Rumor Has It
Summary: In the process of rediscovering her powers, Allison gets a tad carried away. Thankfully, her siblings are there to keep her in check.
Okay this is so self-indulgent but I’ve been wanting to write a fic about Allison’s powers for forever and I never got around to it. Don’t think too hard about the timeline on this one, I was going to end it with the dinner and then I realized I didn’t want to. Also, Lila is here because I love her.
SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 AHEAD!!
Allison could confidently say she was the most patient of the Hargreeves siblings. With the boys, there was no contest—they were all volatile loose cannons with something to prove—and even Ben had fallen prey to the excess testosterone. Years of following Klaus around had brought back out Ben’s snarky side, which he had all-but-smothered in his younger years. A wise person would argue Vanya was patient, and their argument would have merit, but Vanya wasn’t so much patient as she was used to being forcibly subdued. She was kind and sweet, but she would never wait for anything again. She simply acted now. Allison could appreciate the sentiment, but that wasn’t how she operated—no matter how badly she wanted to.
She was always the moderator—the only one who could reign in six other unruly supers without losing a limb. So, when Reginald invited the seven of them to dinner, she had to call upon every ounce of her patience to keep from strangling one or all of them.
“I still say we kill him.” Diego stabbed a mango in the fruit bowl and pulled it towards himself. He started carefully peeling the skin, leaving the shavings in a little pile next to his plate.
“That solves nothing.” Allison sighed.
“It saves the president. I’d call that solving something.” Diego didn’t look up at her, but the aggressive way he sliced a huge chunk of skin off of the mango almost felt personal.
“I agree with Diego. I think it’d be fun.” Lila pulled Diego’s arm towards her so she could take a bite of the mango. He glared at her and she tweaked his nose, taking another large bite just to piss him off.
“See?” Diego gestured at Lila.
“No one is killing Dad. Let’s hear what he has to say, then we can figure out a plan.” Allison folded her hands on the table, relieved when everyone else seemed to be in agreement.  Klaus handed her a tiki cup and she took a grateful sip. It’d been a while since she’d had a good piña colada.
“Why? This whole thing could be over so quickly!”
“Yes, it could, but it won’t be.” She gave him one of her patented fake smiles, taking a pointed sip of her colada.
“Why? Because you’re in charge? Because you’ve got this under control?” Diego scoffed. He offered Lila a piece of his mango before she could steal another bite.
“Oh boy, here we go.” Luther muttered.
“Do you want a drink? No? Well, I do. I’m gonna go get a drink.” Klaus stood and stumbled over to the bar, taking his second margarita of the night with him.
“What is that supposed to mean?” She crossed her arms.
“What authority do you really have, Allison?”
“I would say her powers are a pretty good authority. Plus, Allison’s a good leader.” Vanya piped up, smiling softly at her. Allison gave her hand a quick squeeze.
“Team Zero has no leaders. That’s the whole point.”
“Kinda hard to be Team Zero when you still want to be number one.” Five took an apple from the fruit bowl and took an innocent bite. Diego pushed his chair out, knife in hand, twirling it between his fingers.
“Diego, sit down! Now.” Allison didn’t stand. She wouldn’t sink to his level. Or, rise, rather.
“Make me.” Diego fixed Allison with a withering stare, but it paled in comparison to the one she gave him. In fact, she relished in the way he shivered when he met her eyes. Good. He should remember his place.
“Diego-” Luther tried, but one glare shut him down.
“Shut up. Allison, you want me to sit and behave? Make me.”
“Come on. Don’t do this,” Vanya whispered, trying to grab Diego’s knife hand. He simply flicked the knife behind his back and into his other hand. For a moment, it looked like Vanya’s pleading eyes would work, but Five chuckled and sealed the deal.
“Dinner and a show! Predictable as always.” Five folded his hands beneath his chin and stole a generous sip of Vanya’s cocktail.
“Shut up, twerp!” Diego pointed at him with the knife.
“Or else what? You’ll stab me?” Five was grinning now, goading Diego on purpose.
“Five!” Allison growled, and he rolled his eyes, falling quiet. At least he knew not to test her.
“Keep talking. Let’s find out.” Diego flipped the knife once, then twice, and each time it stayed in the air just a little too long.
“I’ve got ten bucks on Diego,” Lila said, kicking her feet up on the table. She took the liberty of finishing his mango for him, peeling away little bits of skin with her messy nails.
“Guys, stop it!” Vanya latched onto Diego’s arm, trying to force him down into his seat. He pulled away and she ended up jabbing his side. He flinched and glared at her, but did not budge. Allison’s lips quirked into a momentary smile.
“Allison,” Vanya said quietly, gesturing at the brewing fight. Allison rolled her eyes and threw up her hands.
“Okay! Just remember you asked for this!” Allison smirked, and the room suddenly felt a bit colder. She could feel everyone’s attention on her, but she had Diego’s eyes, and that was all she needed.
“I heard a rumor that you started tickling yourself.” Allison’s voice echoed through the room, the sound waves capturing her brother. Just before his eyes turned white, she could see the look of minute panic, that look of ‘oh shit’ that he always made before being put in his place. Allison smiled, curled her tongue against her teeth, and dropped the winning blow.
“Coochie coo, Diego.” She couldn’t help the giggle that bubbled out on the end of her sentence. Diego’s hands raised towards his body as if they didn’t belong to him, fingers wiggling in that way that had always ruined him as a kid—slow, methodical, and teasing. Both hands dug into his sides, just below his ribs, and he yelped, quickly consumed by his own high-pitched laughter. The sight was strange—90% of Diego was squirming up a storm trying to escape himself, but his arms and hands kept him pinned exactly where Allison wanted him.
“How does that work?” Lila laughed, unable to hide her snickers when Diego squealed. She fluttered her fingers over his neck and was delighted to find that he couldn’t fight back—what with his hands being so busy, and all.
“Her power shuts off the sense of self-awareness in the brain, I think. You can’t tickle yourself normally because the laughter is a panic response. Your brain knows it’s you, so you can’t make yourself laugh, unless you’re ridiculously ticklish, or something. Allison’s power is making Diego’s brain think his hands aren’t his, even though he knows they are. It’s really interesting, actually.” Vanya beamed, unable to resist poking him in the ribs a few times. He threw his head back in his chair and somehow found it in himself to giggle louder when his rumored hands found a home underneath his arms, drawing unbearable shapes and driving him up the wall. Everyone, excluding Diego, turned to stare at Vanya.
“What? I like science.” She shrugged.
“It is...creative, I’ll say.” Five crossed his arms, then uncrossed them, as if he didn’t trust his own hands.
“Yeah, I haven’t heard him laugh like that since we were kids. He still sounds like a kettle.” Klaus chuckled.
“Shut up, Klaus!” Diego squeaked out, tossing his head side to side. He puffed his cheeks out, trying to rein in his laughter, but it only lasted until his left hand hit that spot just above his top rib that made him fully cackle.
“Aww, this is cute.” Lila ruffled his hair, knowing full well she wouldn’t have gotten away with it had Diego not been testing the range of his vocal chords. Lila shot Allison a look she couldn’t quite read—something akin to a thoughtful expression, as if she was taking a mental note—and smiled.
“Diego? I think your legs could use some attention.” Allison watched with delight as Diego’s hands dove for his thighs. One hand started squeezing while the other wiggled up and down, and the rate at which he plummeted into desperate belly laughter was almost alarming. He twisted off of the chair and onto the floor, eyes screwed shut.
“Allison, stohop!” Diego squealed, absolutely hysterical. Jesus Christ, no one had ever been this ruthless with him before. Her powers were hitting spots he didn’t even know he had, and each fresh discovery sent him into a wave of overwhelming, giggly panic. Every time he tried to take command of his hands, something blocked him, like the wires in his brain weren’t quite connected.
“Nope! Not until you apologize for being an asshole. And agree to be nice.”
“I can’t—noho!” He arched his back and drummed his heels on the floor. Watching his own hands wreak havoc on his worst spot set off all kinds of butterflies in his stomach. His hands kept digging in infuriating patterns, completely overwhelming his nervous system with tickly sparks.
“Sure you can! It’s very easy.” Allison winked at him and he growled, but it dissolved very quickly into giggles.
“You’re all a bunch of children,” Five sighed.
“Five, why don’t you join him?” Allison asked sweetly, stirring her drink with the straw. Five’s look of confusion melted into a brief flicker of white eyes, and soon his cackles mingled with Diego’s rich laughter. He hit the floor much quicker than his brother, but that might’ve had something to do with his borrowed hands flying straight for his knees. Five squealed and kicked his legs, rolling around on the ground as he tried and failed to escape.
Watching Five and Diego writhe, so tangled in their laughter that they couldn’t threaten her if they wanted to, her heart skipped a few beats. Sure, the power was going to her head a bit, but it’s not like her brothers didn’t have it coming.  She was doing a public service. Speaking of public service, Diego was starting to turn an interesting color.
“If I let you go, are you going to be nice tonight? I will embarrass you in front of dad, I don’t even care.”
“Y-Yes! Lemme goho!”
“Fine.” She waved a hand and Diego went limp. He lifted his hands to his face to muffle the last few giggles trickling from his lips. With some difficulty, he pulled himself to his feet, stumbling back into his chair with an arm wrapped around his torso. Sparing Diego brought a softness in Allison, and she smiled at Five.
“You can let your knees go. I always liked your giggles more anyway.” He disappeared in a flash of blue and reappeared behind her, arms outstretched and ready to strangle, but Allison sighed. He was so...predictable. A creature of unfortunate habit.
“I heard a rumor that you tickled your ribs silly.”
“Noho!” He hit the ground in seconds, tripping over his own feet as he went.
“Really?” She turned and arched a brow at him.
“I hate yohou!”
“You’re lucky I didn’t mention your hands.” She scoffed, then flinched when Five shrieked. One of his hands started going to town on the other, scratching so gently that Allison almost couldn’t believe how loud he was. He squirmed so violently that she was sure he’d’ve punched her if she’d been close enough.
“Oopsie.” She grimaced, biting her lip.
“Allison, hey.” Vanya smiled, obviously amused, but tilted her head towards the elevator. The up arrow was glowing red and, yeah, it was probably, regrettably, time to stop.
“You can stop, Five,” She murmured, and he wheezed, scrubbing his palms against his jacket to erase sensation. The feeling of the fibers sliding against his palms sent him into another flurry of giggles as he clenched his fists.
Some cruel, playful itch at the back of Allison’s mind had been thoroughly scratched—so much so that when Diego still took a jab at her for not using her powers, she made him punch himself instead of embarrassing him.
She liked using her powers. The force with which they held her was sometimes scary, but for harmless instances like this? It was what she had been missing growing up. Everyone else got to mess around with their powers, but she was never really allowed to. Being the responsible and patient one meant being the buzzkill in her siblings’ eyes, and buzzkills didn’t often get roped into the intense, multi-floor, super-tickle-fights that had dominated what few happy memories that the Hargreeves had as children.
She started slow with reintroducing her powers, not wanting to overwhelm or scare anyone. She was still trying to get past the look on Patrick’s face when he’d caught her rumouring Claire. Allison knew her siblings would never look at her like that—in fact, they were the only people who ever wanted her to use her powers. She started with simple things: convincing Five to get some rest after refusing to sleep, ending an argument between Luther and Diego that was quickly spiraling out of control—even on Klaus, who would not stop fighting with Ben during the night. That last one wasn’t truly necessary, but the walls were thin and their rooms shared an unfortunate border.
“What color are you thinking?” Klaus dumped his armful of nail polish bottles onto her bed, just barely catching a few before they clattered to the floor.
“Yellow?” She gingerly picked one from the pile.
“I love it.” He beamed and took a seat in front of her, unscrewing the cap. The brightness and warmth of the polish made her smile. It was the color of her favorite dress from the decade they’d left behind—the dress that Raymond had always loved. Klaus took her foot and laid it on his leg, sticking his tongue out to concentrate.
Someone softly cleared their throat and the two of them looked up to see Vanya hovering in the doorway. Allison smiled and waved her in, and she plopped on the ground next to Klaus. Vanya leaned over to watch Klaus work.
“You like the color?” Allison asked. Things between them were still fragile.
“It’s lovely. Sissy’s favorite, actually.” Vanya smiled softly, fiddling with her shirt sleeves a bit, and Allison knew things were okay, for the time being.
Three pairs of stomping footsteps echoed down the hall and Allison looked up, catching her brothers lingering in the doorway, though seemingly not on purpose. Luther and Five had cornered a brooding Diego who looked like he was a few seconds away from impaling one or both of them.
“Diego, quit being such a grouch.” Luther shoved his shoulder lightly.
“Don’t tell me what to do.” Diego grumbled, arms crossed.
C’mon man, it’s been days. No one likes when you sulk around. Just lighten up a little.”
“Don’t tell me what to do.” Diego held a knife up to Luther’s throat.
“Five, a little help here?”
“Oh, I don’t care.” Five stuck his hands in his pockets and smiled.
“Diego. Dude.” Luther shook Diego’s shoulder again and he growled, grabbing Luther’s meaty hand and wrenching it backwards.
“I heard a rumor that Luther and Five tickled you until you admit defeat,” Allison piped up, giggling at the look of absolute betrayal on Diego’s face. Five cackled of his own volition, happy as a clam to have a reason to torment his brother.
“Allison, no!” He bolted, Five and Luther hot on his heels.
“Have fun!” She called after them.
“That was mean.” Klaus chided, wiggling his fingers over her sole. She squeaked and tried to pull away, but his grip was tight on her ankle.
“Klaus! I’m gonna mess up the polish!” She whined around a giggle, hiding her face in her hands.
“No you won’t. Just stay still.” Klaus chuckled, continuing to apply the polish with one hand. With the other, he kept scratching gently
“Yeah, Allison, just stay still.” Vanya took hold of Allison’s ankle and fluttered along her arch, taking note of which spots made her curl in on herself and paying them extra attention.
It was then that Allison decided they were no longer exempt from her wrath. Everyone was fair game now. Though, maybe she could show them a little mercy, since they definitely could be a lot meaner.
They only stopped once they made her squeal—Klaus scratched his nail repeatedly over her big toe until she nearly fell on the floor—and even after, they wouldn't stop teasing her about the noise she’d made. She filed away her large-scale revenge plan and settled for tickling them both once Klaus had finished her nails.
There was a lesson in quitting while you’re ahead, but, pinned to the couch and screaming, Allison was starting to think it had gone over her head.
It had started with Lila throwing a movie night—her way of apologizing for, well, everything without having to say the words. Lila had set up a sort of nest situation with pillows and blankets, allowing the siblings to choose their seats freely. Allison and Vanya snuggled on one end of the couch while Luther claimed the other, and the rest of them piled on one another in front of the couch. Lila laid with her head in Diego’s lap, and Klaus and Five were cozy next to them. They hadn’t existed this way in years. It would’ve been nice, had the tension not been so thick.
All of them were almost afraid to relax, as if they’d all simultaneously remembered how long it’d been since they’d properly been together as a family. Five looked like he would explode if anyone touched him, Diego was far too occupied with his box of Thin Mints, and Klaus’s knee was shaking far too much not to be distracting to everyone present.
A smile tugged at her lips. If any situation called for an intervention, it was this one. Possibly even more than her previous abuses of power.
“They need to lighten up, don’t you think?” Allison murmured, stealing a pretzel from the bag Vanya was holding.
“They are a bit..tense.” Vanya chuckled. Allison took the pretzels and set them safely aside before gesturing for her to lean close.
“I heard a rumor that you started messing with Klaus,” Allison whispered, munching on another pretzel. Vanya fixed her with a ‘really?’ face and she shrugged in apology. Vanya started nudging Klaus with her foot, waiting just long enough between gentle shoves that it was annoying. After about the eighth time, Klaus whirled around and grabbed Vanya’s ankle, skittering his fingers up her leg.
“Vanya!” He gasped in mock offense, spidering his nails in random circles. Vanya simply slid down the couch cushion like a pile of jello, the fight already drained from her body. Allison had been hoping for a more explosive reaction, but this would do as a start. She leaned forward and put a hand on Diego’s shoulder.
“I heard a rumor that you started a proper tickle fight.” She finished the command with a quick flutter at the back of his neck. Diego snatched her hand and yanked her forwards, using the change in momentum to grab her foot and go to town. She snorted and shoved at the back of his head, anything to get him to let go.
“Not with me! Nevermind, I heard a rumor you stole Five’s marshmallows.” She shoved him off of her and grinned when he immediately lunged for them. In that moment, Five was indistinguishable from a feral racoon as he dove for the treats. Lila managed to roll out of the way just before she was crushed.
“Give them back!” He screeched, reaching for the bag just out of his grip. Diego took advantage of his long arms and stretched as far away as possible.
“Nah, I don’t think so.” Diego dropped a marshmallow into his mouth, making direct eye contact as he chewed and swallowed. Five trembled with rage.
“You’re dead.” He pounced onto Diego who yelped before dissolving into frantic giggles, arms flailing about as he tried to dislodge Five. He squirmed right into Klaus, who took hold of his legs and dug in wherever he could reach. Vanya made a game of poking Diego’s stomach as many times as possible while dodging his hands. She could see the moment where her rumor dissolved, the four of them effortlessly carrying on the playfulness without aid.
Allison snuck a glance at Luther. He was still crushed into his corner of the couch, looking unbelievably uncomfortable but at least amused at the struggle going on beneath him. He deserved to smile as much as them.
“I heard a rumor-”
“That you were wildly ticklish, all over,” Lila said from behind her, and holy shit, when did she get there? Lila poked her side and a bright giggle bubbled out from her lips before she could stop it. Dread and anticipation tangled in her stomach. She’d never been that sensitive there before.
Uh oh.
“Lila, we can talk about this.” Allison raised her hands in surrender as Lila vaulted over the couch, straddling her before she could escape.
“That’s the problem, Allison. You’re still talking, not laughing.” Lila kneaded her thumbs into the sides of Allison’s stomach and she squealed, trying her damndest to grab the offending hands.
This was uncharted territory for her. She was used to teasy hands grabbing her neck or for roughhousing to turn into a mad grab for her feet. She knew exactly what it would feel like every time. This was technically the same, but radically different. Her body just didn’t know what to do. It was like being tickled for the first time ever, before her body knew what was going on. Every single part of her was sending up flares of tickly panic as she squirmed underneath Lila.
When someone—Klaus, judging by the cold shock of a few rings—grabbed hold of her feet, it dawned on her how what she’d put Diego through might’ve been a little mean.
“Lehet goho!”
“Hey, Allison? I think your legs could use some attention,” Diego said in an annoying mockery of her voice, but she was far too indisposed to reprimand him for it.
“I-” She started to plead, but verbal communication flew out the window entirely when Vanya started tickling lightly under her chin and down the column of her throat. It was so gentle and clearly loving, but the contrast between Vanya and the fiends going to town on the rest of her body only doubled her desperation to get away.
Diego hooked his fingers behind Allison’s knee and she nearly launched Lila across the room with how hard she thrashed. Her nervous system whited out for a minute as she squealed louder, doing everything she could to wrench her feet from Klaus’s grasp so she could kick Diego in the face.
“No! Stohop!” Great, she was snorting now.
“Uh-oh! Bad spot?” Klaus drawled, scribbling over her feet. Lila wormed her fingers into the crevices of Allison’s ribs, making sure to pinch and prod every so often, just to draw out little squeaks and hiccups. Diego found a spot on the side of her thigh where if he wiggled his fingers, Allison’s giggles would turn wheezy, and he was having far too much fun with it.
“Ihit tihickles!”
“Does it? Are you sure?” Lila vibrated a claw into Allison’s stomach and she threw her head back into the couch with a loud cackle. That was definitely new. Vanya giggled somewhere above her, dragging her fingers over the shells of her ears.
“Yes, oh my god-” She clamped her elbows to her sides when Lila tried to sneak her hands under her arms. Her brain sent out about fifty warning signals, essentially begging her not to let this happen, and while she had no clue where the knowledge had come from, she wasn’t about to question it.
“Alright, I’m sorry!” She tried to curl around Lila’s hands but that only made things worse.
“Damn straight.” Diego scoffed, (surprisingly) the first to let her go. After a few other quick pokes, the others released her, watching as she heaved in sweet oxygen. Every inch of her body was fizzling as she came down from her laughter. She covered her face, hiding her recovery, until two very mean hands darted into her exposed armpits. Allison bucked up hard, loud and bright laughter overcoming her as she thrashed on the couch. A few seconds felt like hours, and when Lila finally did stop, Allison wheezed before mustering the energy to glare.
“Lila!”
“Sorry! I just wanted to see what would happen.” She smiled, sheepish, but not at all apologetic.
“I hope I didn’t ruin movie night,” Allison murmured, looking up and around at her siblings.
“Au contraire! I think you made movie night. Everyone, grab your snacks. I want to see this kid fuck up some robbers.” Klaus started the movie without waiting for the others, earning groans of annoyance and panicked scrambling as everyone tried to find their seats. Lila stayed on the couch, pulling Allison’s legs across her lap, while Vanya adjusted so Allison’s head would be more comfy. Klaus laid across Diego’s back and Five propped his legs on top of them, popping marshmallows in his mouth like popcorn.
A success, if ever there was one.
