I'm giving him his own individual post because he's meant to be a joke character who looks like the Michael Afton SFM model. But Vincent Baker was supposed to be a joke character too and now he's plot relevant;
So let's meet Micah Benedict Aston, a young man from one of the smaller towns outside Hurricane who loved Freddy's as a kid. Now that he's grown and out of electricians' trade school, he's working at his childhood favorite restaurant to help keep it's good reputation. What's left of it. He's picking up a few other skills along the way to make himself invaluable to the team-
But they can't help but wonder if he's also investigating the incident where his younger sibling went missing back in '85. Hopefully he stays smart and safe, but there's only so much they can do to stop him...

Do you have any really specific and/or personal Zukka headcanons that you’d be okay with sharing? I eat up every hc you put into your drawings like they’re candy, I was wondering if you had any others :D :D
OH boii i sure have,,, nothing coherent is coming to mind atm so ill just expose my Extensive backstories of zukka bethrotal armbands that idk if i will find a way to sneak into art.
sokka’s armband for zuko is forged back at Piandao’s mansion, and it's one of the most fine stunning pieces of jewelry ever crafted. it’s not the usual southern ivory but metal, more similar to the armbands worn as an accessory in the fire nation. it’s made of intertwining bands of gold and black meteor metal, with patterns of waves and dragon scales that seem to ripple and move when the light catches on them just right. and the pendant is a traditional blue stone from the swt.
There are no particular engagement gifts traditions in the fn, so zuko goes on a deep dive into southern water tribe ones, asking sokka’s family and friends about jewelry making and learning to engrave over the course of several trips to the swt. He makes sokka’s armband with ivory from his own first (successful) solo hunt. i’m not sure abt the material of the pendant lmao maybe gold? but amber would also be cool methinks
as for the pendant engraving they display a unique single braincell moment (untrue i just want them to match). love the fact that both of them are sea savvy navigators, love to think that in their pining era they spent a lot of time watching the stars and showing each other the different constellations and navigation pointers of their nations, so in both of their armbands’ stones are depicted the constellation used to guide sailors back home, sokka engraving the swt’s one on zuko’s armband and vice versa.
if they were sun’s out guns out kinda guys before this only gets worse during the first weeks of their engagement. shirts are banned. everyone look at the bethrotal armbands NOW.

The Most Underrated Line In All Of ATLA/TLOK And Its Many Worldbuilding Implications - A Ramble
Tumblr media
In S2E7 of TLOK we get this dialogue from Wan and The Aye-Aye Spirit: "There are other Lion Turtles?" "Of course there are - dozens of them!" [timestamp 3:38 in this video]
It's such a quick line it's easy to miss, but there's one thing about it that made a LOT of things click into place for me about the Avatar universe's worldbuilding; the fact that there are (or were) dozens of Lion Turtles. NOT four, with one for each element, like you would assume. Dozens.
What does this mean in terms of the Four Nations? What connections might this have with other previously established lore? Well uhm follow me on this journey. I guess.
Pre-Unifications - A Global Warring States Era?
A warring states era on a wouldn't be nearly as compelling if there were only four Lion Turtles. If this were the case, everything would be perfectly balanced; why would there be disarray, violence, cultural disparity and struggles for power within each elemental group if the world was already perfectly divided into four solid groups? Why would a national identity be in question at all?
But the fact that there are more than one Lion Turtle per element... that means different groups of people being isolated from one another for long periods of time. This means different bodies of identity, regardless of element. Different city states, regional Kings, Queens, fiefdoms, dynastic power struggle, etc etc, before any sort of inherent loyalty the ones element as a national and cultural identity was established.
We know the Avatar world was not always divided into Four Nations. In Chapter 21 of The Rise Of Kyoshi we learn that Guru Laghima - a name you'll recognize from TLOK S3 - was from an era when the Four Nations had not yet been formed. We also know from Zaheer that he lived about 4,000 years before the events of TLOK (for context, thats about 6,000 years after Wan became the first Avatar).
There's further confirmation of this in Smoke And Shadow, where we learn about the first Firelord and the Fire Nation's unification wars.
Tumblr media
However there's implications of this even in the original series; it's not some sloppy ret-con from the books and comics, it fits. Think Omashu:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In S2E2 of ATLA we get the story of Oma and Shu - and we learn that they come from "warring villages." Now why exactly would their villages be warring if The Earth Kingdom already existed? Why the need for a power struggle? Why is it not presented as a civil insurrection or civil war, but as a conflict between two distinct groups of people? The answer is that the "Earth Kingdom" as we conceptualize it did not exist. I'd go further and say that we can assume that after Omashu was established it became a powerful regional kingdom, and created strong sphere of cultural influence. Think about it - Bumi is King Of Omashu. King. NOT the Earth King, King Of The Earth Kingdom, but still King Of Omashu.
[Now there's some debate about where Omashu's founding sits on the timeline but to me it HAS to be post-Wan, probably very nearly immediately post-Wan. The line that calls them the "first earthbenders" and that they "learned earthbending from the badger moles" has caused some to question if they fit in with the "Lion Turtles bestowed bending" lore, but to me it fits pretty easily. The Lion Turtles may have bestowed the power but the actual technique was learned from the badger moles and dragons and blah blah blah.]
I also find this line from Jianzhu in The Rise Of Kyoshi very illuminating:
Tumblr media
VINDICATION !! And Jianzhu's moaning over the cultural diversity within his country brings me to the second part of this post...
FC Yee And Gene Luen Yang Accidentally (?) Make Avatar's Cultural Mish Mash Make More Sense
Avatar's cultural gumbo of visuals has always been a little hard to parse. If you follow @atlaculture then you know it'd be kind of fruitless to try and apply any one single ethnicity/culture to one nation. A common, and very valid, criticism of Avatar is the pan-asian approach it takes to worldbuilding. I'm not here to defend that lol. I think people who dislike Avatar on that basis are well within their rights to do so, and I also think it's important to enjoy things critically.
HOWEVER, from a worldbuilding perspective, the mish mash becomes easier to swallow when you think of it in terms of multiple groups of people being unified into different nation states over a very long period of time and slowly intertwining their cultures into a single(ish) identity.
Take the Fire Nation for example: in FC Yee's The Shadow Of Kyoshi we learn that the government was much more decentralized and the country was controlled by different clans, like the Saowon and Keosho, who had individual spheres of influence and strong senses of identity. It makes me think about Mai and Ty Lee
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're both Fire Nation nobles and they both live in the Fire Nation capital - but their styles/clothes are completely different. Now, obviously that can be boiled down to personality-based character design but. There's a wide discrepancy between Mai's Edo Japan inspired hair and Ty Lee's Thai inspired performance outfit, and a little retroactive canon about them being part of different but powerful clans .. ? Yeah. That'd be fun, at the very least.
I could go on about this... was there a Water Lion Turtle at the north AND the south? How did the airbenders transition from relatively sedentary life on a Lion Turtle to nomadism? etc etc etc BUT in conclusion: TLOK and the comics have some very fun worldbuilding implications snuck in there !! Which makes up for a lot in my opinion. Personally I'd KILL for an Avatar series set in the warring states/unification period... I think that could be insanely cool...idk. The End. For Now.

So like…there are potatoes and cacao in empires because there are potatoes and cacao in minecraft which means that clearly trade has been established with the americas they have a mixture of european and american crops.
So its plausible that at least one empire grows corn as a staple crop.
Anyway, how is everyone else’s night going?
That is a genuine question if anyone wants to answer I’m procrastinating at work.

SOMEONE TEACH THESE GIRLS TO SWIM, OH MY STARS 😭
it is a super cool little detail to add though, considering the Outer Ring is designed to be barren and dusty like a desert- and, presumably doesn't have very many natural water bodies. At least, not enough that these two can indulge or bother to learn
also- with the drop of the Outer Ring, the western motifs that Billy wears [the sheriff star, the spurs on his guns, the horseshoes on his soles, etc. etc.] is a fantastic homage to his background with the Sons -> His look has been modernized to fit New Eridu but the Outer Ring is still a part of him
say what you will about ZZZ and hoyoverse, but those motherfuckers know how to world-build now if only they could learn what melanin is...

Info .4) REGION MAP
Tumblr media
-> Cities, towns, villages, rivers and most prominent and well known mountain peaks and hills.
"Region" stands for the general area we will see and hear of in the comic, it is not a definition for a "country" or "province/state" of any kind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-> Region areas, some are named after certain cats and act under a single government, meanwhile some are simply names that act as a geographical descriptor (woodlands, tundra, grasslands)
After the infection originated in the city of Ardham, it spread along the rivers during the first wave of infection. After a contaminated brought it up to Houlston, it caused a mass outbreak and spread down stream into smaller towns. Eventually it was caught near the coastline, and spread throughout there until most towns in the region were abandoned. Some towns remain active, such as Mistvale which locked itself away from the mainland. Others transformed into large scale shelters and facilities, the most well known being H.R.A.R.S which is the only shelter which will accept stage 1 cats in hopes of saving them before they turn, and Project Seawater which aims to find a fast and efficient way of filtering the oceans water due to the risk in drinking freshwater on land.
Protagonists are (as of chapter 1) situated at Mount Johnson.
Biomes and Climate
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Climate is determined based off the Köppen climate classification system. Biomes and environment are generally based off Canada (most precisely B.C.), around 30-40° from the pole.
More information to come on locations soon! But god am I happy to finally share this with everyone! If you have any thoughts or questions on any locations or environments I'd love to see them! I'm very passionate about this region and try to think of some lore for every little town and location! So feel free to reblog or reply! Anon questions will open soon!

Methods of travel between the Infinite Realms and the Living Realm
Note: it is tempting to think of the division, or Veil, as a membrane between the realms. In reality, it is not a skin or wall made of any substance. Rather, it is simply the place where an ectoplasmic reality-space and a mundane-matter reality-space rest against one another. It is less like a film of oil floating on a body of water, and more like the glassy surface of the body of water itself. The water holds itself together with surface tension and you can see the divide, but there is nothing actually separating the water and the air. We will colloquially refer to the Veil as "self-healing", but it's really more like it is settling. Simply the increasingly-entropic nature of the mundane reality and the decreasingly-entropic nature of the ectoplasmic reality finding a steady point they're both happy with.
1. Slicing a hole in the division.
Some ghosts specialize in this. It's fairly easy if you have a good sense of fourth-dimensional space and a sharp edge. The cut will self-heal, though, especially if it's messy, so it can be difficult to open a wider gap or leave it open for more than a moment. The mechanics of the slicing are fairly simple; like a shark fin about to surface, a blade that's almost touching the division causes currents that disrupt the fields enough to allow for the tip to easily pass through (see Method 3 below for further explanation), and then the wider part of the blade increases the size of the cut. The trick is in not touching the tip to the Veil before it's been destabilized. Perfektigas Tranĉadon is a good practical guide.
2. Punching a hole in the division.
With enough force (the true amount necessary is not exactly known, but it is known to be colossal), the division can be pushed and broken. This results in a hole which takes a long time to close on its own and produces a number of "shards" or "bubbles" of the division, which can knock their surroundings askew in the fourth dimension. These shards introduce incontinuities in spacetime, which will quickly equalibriate but momentarily pose a threat to laws maintained by continuous spacetime. The punching process also results in a jet of reality-material from the entrance side to the exit side. For further information, consider reading Continuous Space: Geometry and the Infinite Realms. This is the method perfected by the Ring of Rage, and it can also be achieved by any object with enough momentum (that is, velocity times the sum of ectoplasmic mass and mundane mass) being flung at the right fourth-dimensional angle.
3. Exciting the division until it is permeable.
If the spaces in realities on either side of one area are sufficiently energized, the Veil in that area can loosen up into a chaotic mixture of mundane and ectoplasmic space, which is not practically impossible to pass through like a smooth division is. This creates an illusion of a smooth gradient between mundane and ectoplasmic reality— in actuality, a space cannot be simultaneously ectoplasmic and mundane. This would be an impossibility, and, if it impossibly came to be, result in totality-altering paradoxes¹. It's more like tiny pockets of reality too interspersed to be noticeable, like an emulsion of milkfat in water (milk) or an aerosol of water in air (fog). The biggest issues with this method are (1) exciting the ectoplasmic field and quantum field simultaneously and (2) containing the excitement such that it doesn't dissipate in the Living Realm and/or coalesce in the Infinite Realms. Thus far, this is the only portaling method managed by mundane technology, and it is also the one usually used by summonings which do not rely on the summoned ghost for transportation (or fail to peovide transportation at all). Use of Ectoenergetic Excitement Alongside Gauge Field Dynamics in Ectoplasmic Portalling, being written by living scientists, is not a perfect explanation of the "how" or "why", but it explains the "what" pretty nicely.
4. Teleporting.
Ghosts with an ability to rewrite their position in spacetime, via whatever method, generally have no more issue moving interdimensionally than moving intradimensionally. The division only acts as a barrier when moving continuously. If your "teleportation" has issues with interdimensional movement being stopped at the division, it is possible you are actually moving continuously and simply too quickly or abstractly to notice.
5. Simply shifting your balance.
An item or entity which is positioned perfectly on the division can "tip over" onto one side or the other without facing any resistance. This is largely not an actionable method, as it is practically-impossible to obtain the perfect positioning and would require using one of the other methods to obtain it in the first place. Additionally, the smallest destabilization in fourth-dimensional space will tip the object, and the "fall" is not reversible. While a balance on the division is technically at equilibrium, it is a weak equalibrium in this sense and is not stable. An object which is stable in a state of being wholly ectoplasmic and mundane simultaneously (an entity fitting this description is known as a "true halfa", "Limenarch", "owuw-uwow", or y'know just their name that they go by for once) is, however, always positioned perfectly along that balance, and can shift one way or the other without being disrupted. There is no other writing published on this topic that I can find, so you'll just have to take my word on it.
6. Bringing one space to another.
On rare occasions, usually the work of powerful beings with domains in space or reality, such as certain Ancients or the Ghost King, an area of one reality is moved to an area previously occupied by another. In this circumstance, the shift generally causes enough chaos and mixing that the division is permeable. If it happens quickly or instantaneously, though, and the reality that was previously occupying the space is not moved out of the way, the impact with the division can be sudden and dangerous.
7. Entering a black hole.
I'm not entirely sure why this happens. The mundane matter that enters a black hole in the Living Realm measurably becomes a part of the black hole itself, so why does it also appear in the Infinite Realms? Does this disrupt the conservation of matter/energy, or are the two dimensions already on opposite sides of that coin? It seems impossible to tell, as the Infinite Realms have an infinite hypervolume. This is a puzzle that hasn't been solved yet, to my knowledge. Grab something made out of mundane matter and try it sometime, if you can survive immeasurable gravitational pull. It's pretty mind-boggling.
8. Using a natural portal.
Most of the phenomena described above can happen without intentional cause, thus forming a short-lived natural portal. When influenced by certain currents in ectoplasmic flow, these passages can be at odd temporal angles as well as spacial. Thus a natural portal is more likely to cross time than an intentional portal, only a few methods and users of which have been noted to be capable of transtemporal travel. There are not currently any known instances of mundane matter or energy causing a portal which crosses time. Most community centers in the Infinite Realms will have resources available for tracking natural portals.
¹ Trust me, I'd know.
