This one represents scenes from earlier in the fic, but the parallels and the imagery that our fantastic anonymous artist captured has had me staring at this for entirely too long. Repeatedly. Controversial cartoon opinions?

In general: keep adult content and woke crap out of cartoons made/aimed for children.

Specific: old cartoon network is better than new. Same with nick and disney.

I don't care for Infinity Train.

The style change for American Dragon is fine, and I prefer Jake's new dragon design over the old.

This may not be too controversial but most new cartoons these days are ugly and that contributes into me not even wanting to try them out.

16th: Original Story: The Mafia Princess - Part 8 - One of my original stories that deals with a girl being taken under the wing of a local mafia boss. It's unique in the fact that each chapter has a poll so readers can decide what happens next!

Okay, so some context.

First things first, little preteen/teen Rhys spent a LOT of time on various websites in the 2000s (dw, I didn't get into anything I shouldn't have). One of these was a website called 'TV.com', which I don't think is around anymore? Anyway, in my teenage years I was also into the Holy Trinity of cartoons involving kids transforming: Danny Phantom, Ben 10, and yes, American Dragon. So I spent a lot of time in the episode guides and message boards of those cartoons specifically.

Anyway, at some point, one person in the AD:JL message boards pops the question of what Jake and Rose's kids in the future would look like (also quick side note: I was actually kind of indirectly responsible for bringing up this discussion, but that's another story for another day ^^) I don't remember much else from that discussion, but this one person came up with a couple Jake/Rose fankids--a pair of twins where the girl inherited Jake's dragon powers and was also in the Huntsclan? OP posted some drawings of her in her human and dragon forms, as well as her Huntsclan outfit, along with her brother, who DIDN'T have dragon powers, and was just in the Huntsclan (and was also blind).

It has been years now and my love for American Dragon hasn't really carried over like other cartoons I loved as a kid, but that one little thing may have helped subconsciously influence me and my own original story, even in just a small way.

The realization is really starting to sink in on me that another thing that might have inspired my decision to give some of the OTO characters three different forms (at least later down the line) was one piece of American Dragon: Jake Long fanart I saw as a teen years ago.

what is the lore about the dragon ocs?

Originally I just had Ariel(along with Wolfe, but we later added Guy and then Doc) as just an OC to help expand the world and imply that there's more Magic in the world than just the Miraculous.

When trying to explain what exactly Ariel's role in the Magic Community was, I basically ended up describing one of the plot points to the show "American Dragon: Jake Long". Where, essentially, because Dragons are quite powerful, hard to kill, and long-lived enough to gain quite a bit of knowledge/wisdom, they kinda ended up put in charge of local Magical Nonsense.

As I started making a larger Crossoververse, I did officially add AD:JL into the Crossover, with Ariel being the Dragon dealing with France and having Paris as her main base of operations.

The other Dragon OCs came from fleshing out the idea and also rewriting some of AD:JL's lore. Basically in /Canon/ Jake got the title because he was the first Dragon born in America(yeah they're all over the world but none had immigrated into America before the 80s. Sure Jan let's go with that). But I call bullshit on /that/ and also America is fucking huge and too big of a responsibility for one person.

So I broke the areas up into multiple territories each with their own Guardian Dragon, while Jake's story is changed to be that instead of 'first Dragon born in America', he was just naturally powerful and was supposed to be apprenticed to the current Northeastern American Guardian Dragon, but the mentor died like a week before training so Jake unfortunately has to fill his role while still being a teen with little to no training.

So yeah Ariel is for France. Basil, Roxane and Kaimana are all for different regions of America(Midwest, West, and Hawai'i respectively). And then Daisuke is over in Japan and Alexander is in England.

I was trying to look this up but couldn't find an answer and figured if anyone knew it would be you. Why the art style switch in the 2nd season of American Dragon?

(We recently got Disney plus and I'm doing a rewatch. For some reason I thought it had more seasons. Maybe because of how it was aired when I was younger, lol.)

to summarize: the show wasnt really finalized when they started working on s1 and they did some new focus testing after the first season was done being animated and then learned some little things like...kids thought rose was a LOT older than jake and idr all the details but overall they wanted to give the show a new feel to match the different tone of season 2. it really does feel like a completely different show in writing/tone/direction so it's a fair change.

personally i prefer the s2 art style (though i prefer a lot of s1 character designs lol) but i get that it takes a minute to get used to it lol

but also if you're watching on disney+ then you should know the show is horrendously out of order on there. this post is good for ep order:

AD:JL Headcannon

ok don’t come at me but I think for any and all American Dragon Jake Long fans out there, I have a headcannon idea that I think would be hilarious.

so a lot of the appeal of the show (for me at least) comes from the dynamic between Jake and Rose and them having to keep their identities secret while they battle each other as the American Dragon and Huntsgirl on the side. And something I found pretty funny whenever they fight is that Jake flirts with Huntsgirl Rose almost a concerning amount and she just doesn’t acknowledge at all.

I thought of something that would make it 1000 times funnier (in my opinion at least): What if Rose was secretly into the dragon thing? She’s spent her whole life taught to hate dragons and to hunt them down but the moment she actually meets one, it fucking flirts with her and what if that awakened something in her? What if Rose was a monsterfucker?

And then it becomes a recurring gag for the rest of the show. If someone brings up dragons, she really perks up. In that one episode when Trixie and Spud end up with pictures of dragon Jake, she could low-key ask to keep them. Maybe she has a secret stash of dragon memorabilia somewhere in her room that she has to hide from the Huntsman.

It just feels like that could be a much funnier angle to take it than just Rose being conflicted about her feelings for Jake after she finds out he’s the American Dragon.

Your post on ‘new York fantasy’ reminded me of this idea for a AD:JL/Gargoyles crossover. With gramps helping out the Manhattan clan, (since Jake would only be like 6 or so in ‘97). Don’t have much other then the concept

Things I love about Jake and Rose's relationship:

It's not a one-sided relationship at all. We just get Jake's POV cause he's the protagonist. She seems just as much into him as he is into her. In fact, I think she's more into him. But she's just better at hiding her affection.

They are equally matched in the battlefield.

Their flirty banter when they fight as American dragon and Huntsgirl. "I liked you better tied up," "I bet you say that to all the dragons."

Rose being all cuddly and dorky with Jake during Dreamscape. In fact, I think she's just as dorky and nerdy as Jake. Just that she never got the opportunity to be a normal kid.

They are both willing to give up their lives for each other. (Jake in The Academy and Rose in Homecoming).

Rose still feeling that Jake looks familiar after he wiped off their entire relationship with his wish. Just the implications of that statement alone.

Everyone in his family and friend circle telling him to let her go, but he never does. Both in Homecoming and HKL, Lao Shi tells him to let her go, but he doesn't listen and saves her each time.

In fact, Rose saves Jake's world (Homecoming and HKL) and then Jake saves Rose.

I almost finished American Dragon: Jake Long (look at me, I learned the name of the show!) and I gotta say... It's a little boring. Again, just like Danny Phantom, it suffers from "monster of the week" formatting, because of the time it was produced in.

But, it does benefit from the fact that it has little to no lore to establish, since it uses mythical creatures, most of which are already known to the general public.

Danny Phantom, however, had to build a world, which it didn't really do, not fully, and to without rasing more questions.

Randy Cunningham, on the other, other hand, was a little in the middle. It did build a great lore and an almost fully flashed world, but unfortunately it suffered the fate of being cancelled too early. So it set up stuff for more lore, but never got the chance to explore it. However it does kinda work as a self-conclusive show.

I would LOVE for rc9gn to get a Danny Phantom-like fandom, because it'd be great if people created new stuff like the DP one does.
