yeah. I had just gotten back into dr who after like. four years of not actually watching it though I did see a bit of amy's choice on repeat in 2010 (hated it because I didn't understand the throat alien thingies and thought they could maybe appear in me) and thought a town called mercy looked a bit shit when there was promotion for s7a. anyway it was post-april 2013 I'd come home and was watching abc2's repeats of all of new who leading up to the fiftieth every weeknight I was watching the tv movie every friday night on my ipod touch and I would've just gone to the library and gone through all their dr who books and that included. the edas. I was VERY confused. I also read other dr who books from the same era like one with four and one with six and frobisher. even worse is I don't remember what happens in any of them lmao

My two siblings are 10 years younger than me so I often got stuck watching preschool tv on ABC2. It's always been a trash heap of quality, but the quality median slowly morphed from gay guys in banana suits to cgi banana men.

As a general rule though, publicly produced shows tend to have incredibly tight budgets and attract people who have a passion for making childrens' shows. Privately produced shows have nicer production values but utter garbage content because their main goal is to make money through ratings, merchandise, or licensing to networks.

Whenever I see someone complaining about production values in preschool television going down the toilet these days, I've gotta wonder: did I sleep through some era of elevated production values for preschool-targeted media? Like, sure, children's television with decent production values has always existed, but such shows have never been the median. When I was a kid the median for preschool television was some dude in a cheap Renfaire costume arguing with a sock puppet and playing the recorder. There was one set, two speaking characters (if you count the puppet), and no script at all, and by God, we liked it that way.
