Was anyone going to tell me Aalto's dialogue and vocalizations make him sound like he's having the grandest time everywhere he goes, or was I supposed to find this out myself when I put him on a team for one of the limited-time events solely because I didn't know who else to pick? I put him in my lineup for one day just for funsies and I CANNOT play as this man without grinning and feeling warm and fuzzy because he goes around laughing and saying "bang bang!" when he shoots his pistols and going "OPE" when he dodges and he just. Seems like he's having SO much fun. Like he's the one playing a video game, and not me. I see what people mean now when they say the funny/moral support person on the team plays a crucial role regardless of their functional capabilities. 😆

I've trialed him a few times in his tutorial since starting the game, but as a beginner, and even when I tried him again a few weeks ago, I never really quite was able to get the hang of his play style, so I couldn't really form a connection with him. Having actually used him in a couple of battles with responsive enemies today, I feel like I'm finally starting to get the hang of his kit. It furthers my feeling that Wuthering Waves surprisingly (although, perhaps not, given the theme) as an RPG has a lot in common with music and sound; the specific method of timing my characters' attacks and skills, with dodges/parries at appropriate intervals, makes the combat feel to me very much like a rhythm game -- moreso than in other RPGs I've played -- and now I'm starting to get the feeling that learning a character's play style is like learning to play an instrument, in that each individual kit has its own skill curve, where you go from pressing buttons more or less indiscriminately for a passable result to assessing the combat situation moment-by-moment and choosing your actions and tactics accordingly as you would when playing a piece of music.

I'm a fan.
