to be honest, pentagon was surely my last string attached to kpop and while I still listen to it occasionally I truly don't care about any particular group anymore (day6 aside). the last two generation of kpop idols, boy groups especially more often than not shine the most or release the best songs literally as nugu groups... or groups that have a smaller fanbase and are not part of the whole kpop monopoly that is hybe or sme. I'm not saying groups that are from these companies release bad songs but I'm saying pentagon released better ones lmaoooo. okay, but seriously my two cents here is more to say that rather than needing more fans to support these groups, and to shell out hundreds of their savings to buy albums you need companies that have the funds and backing and support to create a lasting group even though their flop eras. everything is so fast nowadays like they expect new groups who have nothing to generate a pool of money within the first two years that they debut but they're also not willing to put a surplus amount of money into building a group that could actually garner fans... If you're not willing to give chances for your group to release music or to appeal to the wider public or to put money into them then don't debut anybody. people are so quick to be like oh support this support that like why don't their own mcliteral companies support them FIRST? HUH?

do you think newjeans is an sm group (or could very much be one)? i remember when they debut, a lot of the reaction was of that. which is only normal considering newjeans' ceo was a large factor as to why sm is sm.

people point out the members' visuals as sm but hybe is relatively a new company so what holds as their standard is hard to define for now. (taeyeon/irene + kangta/jaejoong/s*won as clear examples of an "SM face"). also, i sometimes forget that some groups are under hybe because there are so fu-cking many now and they're going to debut like 4/5 new groups next year. it literally does not make any sense to me.

other than that, i don't really feel like newjeans gives off an sm vibe? i feel like it has a lot to do with the training system and what each company emphasizes on. it seems that newsjeans is gonna be more dance-focused like all of the other hybe groups. sm groups usually have a distinct vocal color - despite being under the same company, each group holds their own.

slkdjflskdfjslkdfj they are NOTHING like an sm group. like you said, sm has very specific branding in terms music, sound, and visuals, and also in HOW they construct their groups as well. i said it in ask a long time ago, but sm is the only company where i can say that they have a distinctive methodology of how they assemble a group and who has what positions/fills specific archetypes. although a lot of their artists are what would be considered 'all rounders,' sm groups have very specific positions that artists are meant to fill according to how they are assigned and there isn't a lot of deviation from that in group context. there's very little confusion as to who the main vocalists/dancers/centers are. hybe has more of a.............egalitarian approach (well, that's what it translates to, i don't think that's what they intend) where they expect everyone to have an equal level of performance skill and bill groups as being 'performance' oriented, but then they don't have anyone else in a strongly defined other role. like how do you have an obvious main dancer when your whole group can sort of all pass as main dancers? how do you tell who the main vocalist is if you don't have any strong vocalists taking the bulk of the lines and exercising their park n bark privilege? i couldn't tell you what the position of any of the girls in newjeans is unless i looked it up, but i could immediately tell with aespa.

the only thing they have in common is that they have a similar approach to aesthetic branding, and that's literally bc it's the same person doing both.

pros

donghun: he feels he's destined to meet bi and work under that company, it fees like he searched the perfect company for too long before training under there. for swing entertaiment on the other hand they seem to listen to him and works even harder to prove himself. he's just very hardworking.

jun: he basically does what he wants no matter if it's under bi or se. both companies seem to like him. i'm unaware if he does individual activities in a way or another but jun's feeling secure enough to work with both companies.

wow: similar to donghun, it feels like he had to sign with bi. swing entertaiment on the other hand.. he seems to hate them, since they came everything has changed. i am aware the cards are more positive than negative for se but he might feel tired of the second company.

byeongkwan: for bi, i do feel there's someone, possibly mutual acquintance from his staff who makes the job there way better. swing entertainment on the other hand he might not want to share fully about it and might prefer to repress these feelings to himself. he seems to dislike important figure, possibly earth tropical sign.

chan: chan feels the importance bi influenced onto him and ace. they seem to be too important at this point. on the other hand, se communicate to him but he doesn't want to talk much. he might dislike swing entertaiment too.

donghun: he hates the fact that se offers way more than bi. bi are very passive and they might rest too much while se offer and offer.. donghun might be cautious for se because he's just feeling more sympathetic to beat interactive, so that's why he's just too loyal in a way or another.

jun: both companies seem to make disputes about what they want jun to do and what they don't want from him to do and bi seem to be the initiator of the drama. jun hates they have to quarrel because of him because he indeed want to explore and explore his potential

chan: would prefert to be with his family. honestly, he dislike the way bi is working, they seem to work too fast too (like byeongkwan with se). he would prefer to detach from se but it seems to not be only that, he might prefer to leave the companies he's been in for years and go home. he misses his family. a lot.
