DPxDC # 6

The A-listers (Star, Paulina, Dash, Kwan) are in Metropolis looking at the university.

Luther is once again in a suit of armor attacking Superman. The civilians have all run away but the A-listers stay and watch.

Being from Amity Park they are used to fights. This is way less scary than ghost attacks. Plus with the years the portal has been open, they're all liminal.

They're off to the side just chilling chatting away. Paulina is making fun of Luthers' bald head sticking out of the suit.

Paulina: He looks like a thumb sticking out of his toy suit. Skulkers true form is scarier than him.

(my brains not giving me a good insult for Luther to say to Paulina to make her mad)

Luther says something that makes Paulina mad.

Paulina: Operation Kick-Off Routine

Dash, Kwan, and Star all nod.

(It is important that Luther is flying up in the air)

Star cups her hands together, slightly bends her knees and braces herself. Paulina puts her foot into Star's hands and gets shot off into the air at Luther. (They're cheerleaders they can of course throw a person really high and accurately)

She gets right to his face and punches him down to the ground. Kwan is waiting and grabs Luthers' face and holds him up and beside him. Dash starts dashing (lol) at them and kicks Luther. Luther ends up blasting off.

The A-listers immediately go back to just chatting and talking shit about the bald loser.

Superman is just dumbfounded by what happened. He has to sit down on the ground.

I once saw a headcanon that Harley was Dash's aunt, and that's all I could think of when I read this.

Like Danny says something as Phantom about no one from his past knowing he's dead or something to that regard. And the A-listers take that to mean that Phantoms death was a missing persons cold case. They make it their mission to solve Phantoms death. And instead of asking, because Amity Parkers know that's a bad move, they start deep diving all missing persons reports in their county. It takes over their lives for awhile. They never did figure out Phantoms but you'd be surprised what a few high schoolers with budding liminal powers can do. They definitely cracked a couple cases back open. And those successes made them to start reevaluating what they're going to do after high school.

Paulina goes into investigative journalism at Metropolis university, she also has a youtube channel on the side where she does deep dive explanations while doing fun make up looks.

Dash goes to Gotham university to study Criminology. He stays with his aunt Harley and her partner Pam. He gets really into the psychology side of crime and why certain people more disposed to fall to crime than others.

No clue about the others.

“Yeah, I’m a new student.” “Well, welcome to Gotham University! What’s your major?” “Criminology.” “What dorm are you in?” “Oh, I live off campus. My Aunt Pam owed a favor to my mom, so I live with her and her partner, my Aunt Harley.” “Excuse me?!” “It’s not as bad as you think.”

Short DPXDC Prompts #980

The information blackout on Amity is taking its toll on Amity Parkers. The GIW are getting more violent, the ghosts are getting more dangerous in order to not get caught by the GIW, Inviso-Bill is nowhere to be found. Paulina starts calling anyone and everyone that she knows from outside of town. No one answers her pleas. She manages to get a list of contacts her grandfather had during his time in the military. She’s ran out of options. She hopes to god one of these numbers work. She dials. And waits. The phone rings and rings and rings and- “Hello, Alfred Pennyworth. How may I be of service?”

Random musings about an episode where Spectra disguised herself as a student, rather than a counselor to sow misery within the high school! Spreading gossip, being outright malicious, shattering friendships, and all that jazz! Plus, using that fact she looks like a teen against Danny, since unless cornering her, he couldn't fight her without looking like he's attacking a random student.

1. The scenario is, a woman is walking through the woods hiking alone.

Whilst hiking, would they rather come across a bear or a strange man?

The question is not:

Who would you rather get in a fight with?

It is not “A man you know vs a bear you don’t.”

They are not being asked to hug or provoke the bear or man.

They are just walking, in the woods, and come across either a bear or a random dude they do not know.

And most of the women in these comments, as well as the ones we have talked to, plenty of whom have gone hiking alone and who have come across both bears and men whilst doing so, choose the bear as a preference to run into.

Because the threat of the bear is a known quantity and thus a much more controllable one. A bear is more likely to just keep foraging and move on its way than outright attack you, unless under very specific circumstances.

The man is not a known quantity and whether he openly displays aggression or not, a woman cannot know for certain what his intentions are.”

I've started reading Anne Lister's (early 1800s lesbian) journals, some highlights:

where they start off, she's accompaning her ex-its-complicated (Mariana) who just got married on her honeymoon. Anne responds to this heartbreak by fucking Mariana's sister (also along on the honeymoon)

she is also an absolute dirtbag towards this sister (confusingly also named Anne aka Nantz), "she would gladly have gotten into bed or done anything of the loving kind I asked her", "I said she excited my feelings in a way that was very unjustifiable unless she meant to gratify them"

part of how she explains she's gay to Nantz is saying how pretty hr sister Eliza is. Notably this is not the sister that Anne has been dating.

then she immediately drops Nantz and makes a snide note that "superior charms might not be so easily come-at-able on such easy terms"

Later she meets back up with Mariana and then proceeds to spend so much time hanging out with yet another sister (Lou) that Mariana gets jealous, which Anne glosses over in a way that might read more heartfelt if she had not previously a) noted that one of Mariana's sisters was very pretty or b) slept with another one

On the one hand she is such a snob towards her neighbors, but on the other its clear she's acutely aware that they are all aware she is Different and are gossiping about her, so I find it hard to hold the classism against her

her idea of flirting with a local middleclass girl she meets is to send her a poem about having a temporary fling with a social inferior. Luckily she does not go through with this idea, but big Darcy energy

at one point she buys a pistol and shoots out of her window and the recoil knocks it out of her hand so dramatically that the pistol smashes the glass

so much of these journals are about finances, which I'm sure the historians adore, Anne keeps noting down how much everything cost

There's some interesting gendered bits going on in her: Anne mentions at one point sitting in just her underwear and men's suspenders, and mentions "the abuse I had received for [...] manners like those of a gentleman". She's also very focused on getting a full (masculine) education: classics, math and science, etc, and there are multiple places where she notes particularly when a(n unfamiliar) man treats her intellect as an equal.

there's one long bit that really gets me where she goes on for a while about the various expenses of traveling by coach and ends it with "Any gentleman might travel on these terms, if he chose to go into the traveling room & was sure of being well received so long as he did not give himself airs, but behaved like a gentleman. Indeed, he said, many gentlemen did travel in this way..."

Anne Lister kept parts of her journals encrypted, mostly the lines to do with her sexuality, and there's a strange poetry in the way this collection renders the encrypted text in italics, queerness once unreadable but still written plainly alongside the deniable straightness, "Had a hot supper & did not get back until 3. I slept with M---"
