I feel like people complaining about drama on tennisblr are the ones perpetuating the drama. like, the only reason there’s drama at all is people bringing stuff over from twitter and reddit imo, there’s been so many screenshots from there. eh i definitely see where people r coming from, its not a totally unusual story for confessional blogs to spiral into discourse over time, but i will say usually thats for much larger fandoms. i will also once again say that some of the knee-jerk reactions r probably due to me pitching it as a confessional blog style operation, when im aiming for something a lot more lighthearted and just like.. banter u know? I’m a serial lurker so i like the idea of opening the floor up for anons, and i do think most of them will play nice!! is it probably not at serious as some of the previous anons have made it sound? maybe, but I do appreciate the concern for me and the community. I will note that I don’t necessarily think it’s useful to blame the drama on tumblr on stuff migrating from other sites. Sure, there’s an amount of culture shock when people first join tumblr and so might not know the customs (like appropriate tagging), but things like screenshots of other socmed is just a natural part of all socmed at this point. The threads might have begun somewhere else but once they’re posted here they’re part of tumblr baybee. I don’t think it’s really necessary to single out tumblr as this supposed safe haven from the horrors of twitter or reddit fandom bc like it’s not lol there’s plenty of discourse here it’s just easier to avoid it!!! filter the shit out of ur dashes besties!!!! Curate ur experience!!!! Learn that searching shows u all posts that contain that phrase in the body of the post OR the tags, u have to go to the tags tab specifically if u only want to see post tagged with what u searched!!! This is is a total tangent but I have seen so many people complaining about anti posts showing up in main tags but bestie that’s why u gotta filter it!!!

To be honest, as an artist I really have no interest in migrating to a new site that functions like twitter..... like I can't be bothered to move to bluesky or whatever (even if it wasn't invite locked??) bc I didn't even want to be on actual twitter let alone a twitter clone. What I really want out of a new site is something actually structured around posting art, with a gallery and subgalleries function and a good search and tagging system lmao. I think something more like a modernised version of deviantart would be so much more useful to artists?? when sites like twitter aren't even good for posting art in the first place and impossible to gain any traction on unless you're already popular with a big following. Why leave twitter just to create the exact same problem..... imo what we really need is a new art site bc that's the only thing I'd really feel any interest in making a new account for at this point.

I also think it needs to be something with a big userbase of casual, beginner and hobby artists as well as non-artists who can have account just to browse/follow/comment/etc., to prevent it from just becoming another portfolio site that's only really useful for professional designers and concept artists and shit (like artstation and behance etc.). There really hasn't been another site with a community or functionality like this since dA I feel, which is a shame and dA itself is virtually unusable now.

Uugh I've kind of been putting this off but since I've had a small influx of followers leak over from my rp blogs + apparently there's another Twitter migration happening or smth idk lol + my pfp seems to attract dream stans for obvious reasons + it's been long enough since October that the thought of talking abt it isn't super uncomfortable anymore I just want to be a little more clear abt this.

I do not support cc!dream nor do I particularly like him at all. And also due to personal trauma reasons I likely never will again even if the allegations are proven false or whatever (and tbh there would still be enough shit that is 100% true to make me uncomfortable). I generally block any hardcore stans and if you have a cc!dream pfp and follow me or interact with my posts you're probably gonna get blocked on sight lol.

But yeah the whole Situation in October was triggering as fuck so if anyone following me remembers when I was like a casual dream stan and then suddenly deleted 90% of my blog (and tbh it's probably a miracle I accidentally got my ao3 suspended when I did (I used "shippers will die by my blade" as a tag and that's against tos apparently) bc otherwise my one fic I had at the time might have been an orphaned work by now) then that's what happened. I was having a real bad time panicked tried to jump ship etc. but that kind of just made it worse I think so yk.

But yes I am still a c!Dream enjoyer he is a completely seperate entity with absolutely no relation whatsoever. To me. You could say I've built up an extremely strong impenetrable mental barrier between the two ig lol. Anyway I have taken legal custody of c!Dream lmao :)

Anyway. Hello, Tumblr 🥹 It's been a while (again). I have a lot of thoughts on Twitter's X revamp, but the gist is that I'm going through a little ~migration~ process atm and trying to ween myself off Twitter entirely (so I can be more active again here) 😭

It's not an easy decision to make, but unless things get better on Twitter, I feel like going back here and making this my main platform again is something that needs to be done.

So if you're a fan of my work here on Tumblr, I'd like to ask for a little favor.

One of the reasons I've been hesitant to go back to this site is because my engagements here (and elsewhere) just aren't the same compared to the bird app. If I post something on Twitter, I'd get 200 to 500 likes on average (and that's within the span of 5 days).

Here, I'd be lucky to get 30 in a month.

I know that engagements aren't the end-all and be-all of making fanwork, but realistically speaking, when you work on something for days and pour your heart into it, it can be pretty demotivating to see it flopping 😞

for people starting out on tumblr:

hello!!! hi!!! welcome!!! what you may notice about tumblr is that its main user base is quite different from the like of twitter or any other social media sight, since we use a more old school system of reblogging and tags as our algorithm and as such, has a different system and manner of posts. for anyone who migrated that is confused on the etiquette for posting on tumblr, dont worry. I gotchyou.

1.) no one really takes this seriously. most posts you see here are silly, and sometimes lmao.

2.) theres about 3 ways to show appreciation on a past: the first is to like, by clicking the small heart - this is the most measured part. then there's commenting, which is a sort of quieter way to add something to a post, these are less common. then there's the big one: reblogging. reblogging shares a post with your mutuals and places it on your blog. often times, people reblog with tags that the post may be missing, tagging other people that the post may relate to, or adding a funny/related addon to the post.

3.) most tumblr readers piss on the poor, which is to say that the reading comprehension is not good.

4.) as mentioned, tumblr uses a tag system to distribute posts. most people starting out forget to use these.

5.) a lot of the stuff here is about fandoms, so it'll most likely be easy to find somewhere where you fit in!!

How to identify that someone's account is shadowbanned

Okay so, basically? Tumblr is being a real mess with this, but you can help the artists that got nightmare'd like that! Shadowbanning on Tumblr is a very annoying thing that makes your posts not appear in search and recommendations, makes you unable to use DMs (and people can't send you asks the last time I checked, either?), doesn't show your notes to other people etc.

The easiest giveaway is if the person does not have you blocked, but when you hover over their icon, the blog doesn't display any posts:

(Using a person that got shadowbanned as a volunteer because Tumblr hates good art lmao)

Usually when you check their blog, you can see there is no ask or DMs option available, and for further evidence you could check the posts that you know they liked/reblogged. If it doesn't show their notification, it usually further proves they've been shadowbanned (rarer it means they were blocked by OP since they liked/reblogged this post, so this is a bit more vague). Another good evidence is if their post is not showing in Tumblr's search tags - especially if you clearly remember you did see it in the tags previously!

If you reblog the post from a person that got shadowbanned - it will still show up on the dashboard and in blogs, but shadowbanning still seriously robs artists from exposure (and from potential new customers if they sell stuff). My incentive to check whether artist got shadowbanned is usually when there are too little notes considering the quality.. Works almost always + proves my point.

How to help?

If they have left other means to contact them (email, patreon/boosty, twitter, insta, etc) - message them there, explaining the issue! I usually link a good post about Shadowbanning from @that-damn-girl that explains in details what it does and what to do ( x ), TLDR; they need to message Tumblr staff about the issue via in-site function. Explain that their posts do not show up anywhere, they can't use asks and DMs have disappeared, all that. Usually within one week staff explains it was a glitch and apologise, and they can see the difference when DMs are back, posts show up in tags, their notes are visible etc. Sometimes staff might forget to get back upon too many requests, so sending other ticket is also an option.

Some blogs won't have any means to contact them available, so in these cases I have to "get creative" usually. For example, explain them that Tumblr fucked them up in the comments under some post (track this post regularly because, again, their response will not show up in your notes). Or maybe bother their mutual that I have a reason to think has their Discord or other contacts and could pass the message to them. Usually there are SOME ways to inform the person!

Basically - train to identify and undo this shit! It is somewhat easy to spot when you know what signs you're looking for. I have seen SO many artists, especially ones not speaking English native or who migrated from Twitter to have no idea what is going on, and their followers don't know what shadowbanning is either!

P.S. There is also a rare possible issue (that I have had a misfortune to encounter when I was trying to unban my blog) where they consistently ignore messages from affiliated email. If you feel like that's the case and you have been banned for too long, despite repeatedly sending tickets, try to use another email and explain why you did so. The possibility is very unlikely but as someone who had to deal with this, I just thought it is worth mentioning. Hopefully I was the only "lucky" one like that haha.

wait what’s happening on reddit?

From what I’ve read here, Reddit‘s pulling a Twitter and planning to charge ( a LOT of) money for third-party applications to use their API - meaning a lot of things will be forced to go offline forever.

Those include ALL third-party apps, which is important because Reddit‘s own app seems to be an utter mess that makes tumblr‘s look like the best programmed thing in the world, so pretty much everyone uses Reddit over those instead. Like, someone did the math for one of the main 3rd-apps, Apollo, and it would’ve cost the single guy who’s programming it 20mil$. Per month. And unless they changed it since last time I tried to go on there, you can’t use web-Reddit on your phone because they won’t let you click a single thing or even look at most subreddits without blocking it behind a "use the app“! Popup. Ik Tumblr does that too, but at least it actually. Let’s you look at tumblr. Kinda ironic that their app is such trash then.

More importantly however, the Reddit App isn’t compatible with native text-to-speech help for blind/visibly impaired people, while all those 3rd party apps are/were- so they’re essentially fucking over all blind/visibly impaired people and making it impossible for them to use Reddit at all.

And also a lot of very important tools for MODERATION. Which mods are apparently really dependent on especially on bigger subreddits because otherwise the workload would be insane + a lot of moderation stuff a lot harder. So. Yknow. They’re basically forcing mods, who do this *for free* to pay money to keep their own site afloat. Or letting subs go haywire and then nuked for not following general Reddit guidelines.

Because of that A LOT of subreddits decided to go on strike for 48h and set to private, resulting in like7700/8somethingthousand of them to go black, which then resulted in the whole site crashing from the amount of change.

Why people migrated to tumblr of al places seems to be kind of a mystery, but my own guess is either because tumblr became the official refugee-site after the whole thing with Twitter before, or because r/196, one of the really big subreddits, closed indefinitely instead of just those 48h (just as a sidenote, is how strikes should work, because otherwise they’ll just wait out the hours instead of doing anything- which is apparently also exactly what happened now).

Anyways that subreddit is apparently Reddit’s version of tumblr anyways so the vibe seemed to fit. And now the 196 tag is trending and probably here to stay for a while lmao

This is probably already a dead give away but I absolutely love creative writing. Fun fact: I’m currently working on a fanfic based after the events of RE: Village. I originally started working on it in December of 2022 but I’ve only typed out 4 chapters so far (real life was a MESS at that time). However, I’ll post it to archive of our own sometime this summer, perhaps :)

I absolutely love video games. Just like with writing, I use it as an escape from reality and to just get lost in another world for a bit. Some of my all time favs are: The Last of Us (first one), The Evil Within 1 and 2, Resident Evil 2, 4, 5, and Revelations 2, Dead by Daylight, Dishonored, Uncharted series, Tomb Raider series, and honestly the list can go on, so I’ll just stop here lol

Here’s a cute, little fun fact: I own a Russian tortoise! He just turned 5 last month and his name is Bolt! I’ve had him since he was around 4 months old :)

writing experience:

I actually started writing on twitter when I was around 13 years old, and (DON’T LAUGH AT ME) it was for the Nickelodeon verse (such as iCarly, Big Time Rush, Victorious, etc…)

Oof, I’m very indecisive, so I’m going to have to say in the middle… it also kind of depends on my mood. Bro tumblr is sooooooo much better than Twitter for fandoms and interests. The tags make it infinitely easier to find what u like and people that talk about what u like. The main reason I migrated here cuz all of my favorite things have non existent fandoms in twitter, and here I was able to find SOOOO much content and people that share the same interests as me!!! It’s so fun

Also the user culture around here is a lot friendlier, u don’t have to walk on eggshells when interacting with someone. It’s not weird to go through someone’s entire blog and like everything, it’s not weird to comment or rb anything, it’s just so much easier to make friends! Like this very ask, smth like this would never happen on Twitter. I’m still kinda shy here and the twitter culture hasn’t completely left my brain, but I’ve met some very cool people! And there isn’t a new drama or discourse everyday

I’m saying all this as someone that exclusively used Twitter for 4 years and was kinda addicted to it, I only stopped completely when the new Zelda game came out and I if I got any spoilers before playing it I would combust into flames. So I came to tumblr, cuz just as it is super easy to find what u like, it’s super easy to filter out anything u want to avoid. I muted every possible variation of “tears of the kingdom spoilers” and every character’s names. And I didn’t get any spoilers for 2 months! If this was twitter I would’ve gotten some in the first day of release.

All in all, here I can only see what I want and super easily, the culture is much friendlier, and isn’t owned by Elongated Muskrat :) twitter is set on fire every day now, I’m glad I jumped the boat before it got too bad (I quit in may). The only thing I miss about it is the cool people I left there and I also used it to see news, idk about any news accounts here in tumblr, besides the destiel memes lmao (also I’m Brazilian so I highly doubt anyone will post news about my country here, 99,9999% of everything is in English). Also the video player in tumblr is DOGSHIT lmao. But anyways. Tumblr very good 👍

I have "advertised" my twitter in the past, usually if i had an ongoing thread for a PJO fic, but because my audiences across the two apps are different I never really saw the need to go "hey look at my other stuff!" very frequently - like my PJO audience is much bigger here than over on the bird app and vice versa with DC/MHA stuff, and there's little overlap between the two so like 🤷

plus the bird app has never had people dive into my inbox/replies going "WHATS WRONG WITH YOU" (at least not yet) so it just feels easier to be unhinged over there lmao - people very easily have come at me over innocuous posts here, can you imagine the disrespect i might get for the shit i've been uploading lately? got my block button super fucking ready lmao 😂

ofc with the bird app going downhill and a couple of my DC mutuals migrating over here, I'm like "okay maybe not all my eggs in one basket". plus i just like. don't care. i mean i haven't in a really long time, hence the unhinged nonsense over on the bird app 😂😂 but yeah. im gonna keep posting there and adding here where i see fit

plus tumblr's tagging system makes it so much easier to find posts compared to the bird app's search function so this really benefits me in the long run

I feel like for as much as people are meming on the destruction of multiple social media sites for their stupid management, it's important to recognize that this is genuinely just a terrible time to be an internet user, and while it is funny how stupid people have to be for it to happen, the real problems they cause fucking suck.

Like yeah, haha, Twitter is ddosing itself and making the website more useless day by day. Yeah, lol lmao, Reddit is falling apart because their ownership decided they want to destroy 3rd party software (and, as a result, a lot of their website). Haha, Tumblr is the only one not actively shitting the bed.

But, like, the only reason Tumblr isn't actively shitting the bed is because Tumblr already has. They are sitting in a bed which has been thoroughly shit, and have been for a while. The entire reason so many people migrated to Twitter & Reddit was because of the porn ban, which killed off a lot of the user base and made the site unusable for a lot of people for a while (not just because they only used Tumblr for porn--I feel like people forget how terrible the filters were at the start). They banned a whole list of generic tags, which only exacerbated the problem.

Yes, this has loosened over time, but it's important to acknowledge that it's still here, it's still the case, and Tumblr is still a godawful option in this social media back and forth. That Tumblr is the only really usable popular option should really say something about the state of things.

Reddit was never really good, neither was Twitter, nor was Tumblr really an ideal platform, but the genuine utility being lost in using Reddit or Twitter, rather than or along with Tumblr, is a travesty, and above all else is incredibly aggravating as an average user.
