One of the two places on the Atlantic in far western Spain where many pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela end their trek (the other is Fisterra). There is a wonderful bit of folklore suggesting that the Virgin Mary arrived at this point in a stone boat in order to encourage the apostle St. James (Santiago) in his evangelization of the Galicians. This church commemorates that visitation. It is one of two stone boat bits of folklore related to the Santiago pilgrimage. The body of Santiago supposedly arrived a few kilometers south in another stone boat which carried his remains from Palestine to Galicia after he was martyred.

The church in the photo is as it appeared before the fire which did significant damage in 2013 leaving only the exterior walls standing. It has been reconstructed, but I do not know how closely the new structure matches the lines of the old.
