Chapter: Happiness || Teaser
——————
To be honest, it was really a miracle how you got there. You never expected that your parents would allow you to leave the house, to go outside, meet other people, start a life.
After never ending discussions, trying to find a compromise, they really said yes.
"We will try it a few months and if we are satisfied, if they can keep you safe, you can stay!"
You never felt more happy in your entire life. You finally could go outside, start a life, meet people, make finally friends and maybe even fall in love. Something you had dreamt about since you started reading.
Even though there was a high chance of being forced to go back to your place, the place that was supposed to keep you safe from every injury possible, you tried to make the best out of it. Even though there was a high chance of getting hurt and accidentally killing yourself, you tried your best to enjoy it.
Nervous but excited you were standing in front of your new teachers office, Mr. Aizawa. You already read about him in a superhero blog. He was the one, who could easily erase the quirks of his enemies and then capture them with his weapon. Pretty impressive, in your opinion. Simple but very effective.
It was really early in the morning. The classes usually start around 8:20 and it was 7:30 now. Already a bunch of people came across your way. You greeted everyone nicely and smiled at them but they all seemed to be in a hurry and stressed. Well, it was the first day of a new school year and taking care of such a big school with so many future pro heroes must be really complicated.
The school. Overwhelming! The campus was gigantic and had so many buildings, grounds and areas. You barely ever left your house, so it happens that you even got overwhelmed by only visiting the shopping center sometimes. Such a big place with so many different individuals made you panic a bit, and since you weren't used to being surrounded by people, you may suffered from social anxiety but the excitement and your curiosity made you gladly forget about it.
Your only concern right now was that you just tried to not get lost in here.
The whole atmosphere was completely different than at home. Here, it made you feel free like living an exciting life full of many people and different activities. At home, it was like a constant feeling of not being yourself or more like not knowing yourself.
And it smelled different here. It smelled like something sweet and dangerous, but quite serious as well. The sweetness definitely came from a lady that walked past you a few minutes ago. You recognized her immediately by her hero costume. It was the pro hero Midnight. For some reasons you've always looked up to her. She just always did what she wanted, not caring about what others think or tell her, sometimes you wish you could be like her but no, not in your situation.
Nervously you stared at the ceiling, trying to count the blue and white stripes on the metallic plates and not taking care about the things that happened around you. The counting helped you focus on one thing and made you forget about your nervousness.
"You need to go to Mr. Aizawa as well, right?" a deep voice made you snap back to reality and loose your concentrated trance.
A tired looking boy with really dark circles under his eyes was staring at you, scanning your appearance. He looked pretty buff and intimidating at the first sight. His indigo hair was standing up in all directions and made him look really tall. Awkwardly he turned his body towards the door and back to you.
"No taking?" He asked again and stared confused at you. The boy tilted his head to the side and raised an eyebrow. Again his eyes scanned your body. Since you fiddled with your fingers the whole time, your hand caught his attention. A scar was going down from your middle finger to your wrist.
He had never seen you before. He would remember such a sick looking girl. You were really skinny and pale. You had completely grey eyes and light grey, almost white, hair, which stopped straight above your shoulders. Your whole appearance was ghost like and, to be honest, kinda sad. You looked so skinny, your cheekbones clearly defined, a big gap between your legs and like it would only take one little blow, probably just a little refreshing wind in the summer, to make you fly away. If you had a little bit more meat on your body, you would look prettier, he thought but that was just his opinion.
Perplexed you looked at him in shock, still not fully realizing what he just said to you. He's going to be the first person you ever had spoken to besides the people your parents hired and your online friends. He is the one, the first one.
"Uhm, no, I mean yes. I-, I am just nervous. Birfst, I mean first big day, you know."
you stuttered awkwardly and blushed in embarrassment. Amused the boy smirked and leaned back against the wall.
Great, the first sentence and you immediately fucked up, you thought. He probably must now be thinking that you are stupid and not able to speak, great.
Again you were staring at the ceiling, counting how many stripes the pattern had to make you forget about what a nervous wreck you actually were right now and he was silently watching you. Again he was trying to remember the person who was standing in front of him, trying to find out if he had seen you before but such a sick and sad looking girl was someone, he definitely would remember.
After waiting some more minutes the door suddenly opened and a man with long black hair and eyes that looked like they would fall shut every second, was standing in the door frame. Mr. Aizawa.
"Come in" he said and walked back into the room.
The boy turned around and walked into the room as well. The office was really messy and many stacks of papers were laying around. It smelled like coffee in here and the morning sun heated up the air, making the little dust particles that were floating around able to see. It was this kind of mixture that gives you a headache if you stay in here for too long.
„You two are the only one who are going to transfer to Class 2-A." he explained and sat down at his desk, trying to find something.
Both Class 2-A? The boy must be one of your new classmates then, you thought. You just hoped that he's not one of those school bullies, who make fun of others, will steal your money and put you into the toilet like you already have read about in some books.
„I already filled out your forms and put them together in your folder. The only thing you need to do, is designing your hero costume but I can't find the sheet for it right now. I'm gonna be right back. Please go trough it and check if we missed something" he handed you your folders and then went through another door.
Your folder was pretty thin if you compare it to the other one. Well, obviously because there was not much information about you so far. Only your stats like height, weight and birthday and of course a description of your quirk.
Quickly you read through everything and checked if there were any mistake and surprisingly there was one. Just a small one but still something you better don't forget.
Curious you were eyeing the other folder and tried to read the boys' stats. After he went to the next page, you finally could read some single words if his quirk description.
"Your quirk is brainwashing?" you suddenly asked and smiled at him in excitement. „How cool! You must be pretty powerful with that, hu?"
Shocked the boy looked at you because he didn't expected you to speak so loudly. He thought you were more shy and quiet, your appearance didn't matched how you talked.
„Uhm, not really." he answered and closed his folder.
„I think it's a pretty cool quirk. How does it work?" you asked the next question and turned your body towards his, grabbing the arm rests of your seat.
„If someone answers me I can activate it." he explained and put the folder back on the desk, still shocked and not knowing how to act.
„But you can control when you activate it or not?"
He simply nodded and looked at you.
„My name is Y/N L/N but you can call me (Nickname). Nice to meet you!" you laughed with a big smile and offered your hand to shake it.
„I'm Hitoshi Shinsou, nice to meet you."

This week's theme: Funky Background Aliens (FBAs)!
Here are some of the moneyed FBAs of Canto Bight!
⭐ Crystal Skull Babe by Ivan Manzella. ⭐ Four-eyed Fancy Collar by Jake Lunt Davies. ⭐ Magnet Head with Balloon Pet by Jake Lunt Davies. ⭐ Knockoff Jabba by Ivan Manzella. ⭐ Popped Collar Dog Man by Jake Lunt Davies, who designed this look with a specific actor in mind:
“There’s a character in there who you can’t really see... He’s like 8-foot-tall, this character, and he’s got a face like a dog. Previously on Rogue One we had a performer called Derek Campbell, who’s a double amputee. He’s now doing film work and turning it ’round and using this disability as a positive thing... We fitted him with prosthetic legs, which were twice the length of his normal legs, and very, very thin, so we have this character which you couldn’t build unless you used a double amputee...” -- Jake Lunt Davies
⭐ Purple Lady by Ivan Manzella.
“The purple lady is all sculpted, with an animatronic head... Gustav Hoegan, creature effects supervising animatronic designer, mechanized the features to give her that air of real life. We sculpted her with that feeling that she can court any man she wants. The extras played brilliantly off of her. There’s one man in particular, with a very James Bond look about him, who would spend a lot of time caressing her shoulder or holding her hand...” -- Neal Scanlan
I liked this quote about how they came up with these FBAs:
“Rian said that this casino wasn’t a place where the skullduggery and the lowlives of the Star Wars world would meet. This is where you went if you had inherited money, made money, or were in the process of becoming very rich, to go and enjoy yourself amongst your own. And the patrons would be wearing black-and-white suits, which was a rather frightening idea. But apart from that, it was a completely open forum.
“We laid maybe three hundred designs all out on boards in the workshop and invited Rian for his first shortlisting... He walked down, very freely, putting on Post-It notes -- same as we did with J.J. on The Force Awakens. Four to six weeks later, it got to what we called D-Day. I think we ended up making forty-something characters, and he chose thirty-five in that one session. Had any of us bet on which ones he was going to choose, we all would have lost.” -- Neal Scanlan
Concept art and Neal Scanlan quotes from The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, written by Phil Szostak. Published 2017.
Jake Lunt Davies quote from “Designing Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Part 3: Developing BB-9E, a Droid Fit for the First Order,” by Dan Brooks for StarWars.com. Published December 20, 2017.

The possibility of a Resonance Cascade is never zero.
It is, however, always nearly zero. The chances, day to day, of a Resonance Cascade, are approaching 5e-9. Not impossible. But about as low as a titanic pair of fingers reaching out from the void to snuff out our sun like a reading candle.
But at Black Mesa, they were studying the dimensional barriers that separated this space from that space. Which is where the chances are raised dramatically. At the beginning, at the first discovery of the signals that indicated that some sort of “Border World” existed, the chances of a Resonance Cascade was raised to 6e-9. Still miniscule, but the simple awareness of another reality is enough to raise it.
When the first experiments into observing it occurred, Quantum Mechanics kicked in. The simple act of direct observation changes things-And so, the chances jumped suddenly. 6e-8 percent chance of Resonance Cascade.
This is when Black Mesa had a visitor. He had all the proper credentials, never gave them a real name, spoke like a broken robot, and he always seemed to stare past whoever he was talking to-like they weren’t even there. A picture perfect G-Man type, here to give them lots of money nobody officially knows about to keep researching, so Someone Else didn’t know before America.
Well, they assumed it was for America.
7e-7 Percent Chance of a Resonance Cascade.
Director Breen met with him, and secured more than enough funding to develop the technology needed to transfer matter back and forth between this “Borderworld” that they had named “Xen”. He assigned some of Black Mesa’s best to the project. Isaac Kleiner, Eli Vance, Arne Magnusson, Richard Keller, Stan Rosenberg...the greatest minds in their field (and under Black Mesa’s employ. Damned Aperture, poaching Ratmann...)
Another massive jump. 9e-5 Percent Chance. And this was not just simply mathematic calculation that was determining these things-As the pieces moved together that would eventually result in a Resonance Cascade, the fabric of reality was actively weakening, making the process all the easier.
Do you understand what’s being said?
The progress the Black Mesa Team made seemed exponential. When at first, the most they could transfer were simple probes...they soon discovered a frequency that would open holes in space. They sent teams-Ill fated as they were-to collect samples. Both Mineral and Biological.
1e-3 percent chance. Or, in clearer layman’s terms, a Resonance Cascade had .001 percent chance of occurring. That number would be catastrophically high, if they had understood what a Resonance Cascade actually meant.
Three men, around the same time, are promoted. Gordon Freeman becomes a Research Assistant on the Anomalous Materials team, working directly under his MIT mentor, Isaac Kleiner. Barney Calhoun is granted Level 3 Security Clearance and meets the previously mentioned men, becoming fast friends. Corporal Adrian Shepard joins the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit of the United States Marines, fast-tracked there by recommendation by an unnamed high ranking official. The HECU marines are ostensibly meant to counteract unconventional enemies in dangerous areas and tight corridors. While a heroic description to the outsider, the simple truth is they are meant to clean up any mistakes that could lead to deserved scrutiny towards what the military is actually funding.
The chances are .01 percent.
Experiments begin to determine the composition of certain crystalline structures discovered in the Borderworld, and the nature of the energy they seem to hold. Doctor Rosenberg develops a variant of the more common mass spectrometer to analyze these exotic materials, under the watchful eye of that G-man.
The Anti-Mass Spectrometer is theorized, developed, and constructed.
There is a 1% chance of a Resonance Cascade.
Experiments begin. Incredible things are learned from the first samples- HG-1866, HP-1937, IA-1992 are all immediately replicated and put into use for the development of Tau Cannons, localized gravitational displacement through Zero Point Energy Emission, and further stabilization of the portal generation. Experiments continue on living tissue from the Borderworld. But a problem arises.
All of the samples have certain impurities, non-exotic matter that prevented certain data from being gathered. Namely, the origin of this matter-the way to make more, not just synthesize similar material.
Director Breen is approached by the G-Man. He has something to provide Black Mesa-A sample purer than any they’d ever gotten their hands on. Breen asks no questions, as the two had...come to an understanding.
The sample is christened “GG-3883″, a tongue in cheek reference to a phrase Doctor Breen’s son often repeated during his time playing the online shooter “Quake”. After all, when Black Mesa came out with the fact that they’d discovered free multiversal travel and near infinite energy, it would be the absolute end of their rivalry with Aperture. The director sent the sample off for analysis, no matter how unstable it may have been, with a self-assured certainty that he would go down in history as one of the most important figures in the field.
If only he knew.
Chance of a Resonance Cascade had reached 13%, and was climbing as the sample was brought closer and closer to the Anti-Mass Spectrometer. Some work is done to prevent it, however-Safety measures are put in place in the time before the experiment. The chances of a Resonance Cascade are lowered to “only” 7%.
Gordon Freeman wakes up late after snoozing his alarm one too many times, and must rush to get ready. He rides the Black Mesa Transit system. His car pulls into the station.
Barney Calhoun is locked out of the security office.
Adrian Shepard is finishing a morning jog.
9% of Resonance Cascade.
Gordon Freeman climbs into the Hazard Environment Suit Mark 4, a variant of Black Mesa’s advanced body armor systems that increased physical capability, featured modular ports for various pieces of equipment, and generated a low-yield battery powered energy shield for the partial deflection and absorption of small projectiles and other dangers common to the work they were doing. Everyone called it a “Hev Suit”.
Barney Calhoun is finally let in, pulling on his own variants that were developed for the security guards. Bulletproof vests and helmets, containing the same type of battery powered field generation...even if charge was less potent. At least it didn’t mean every single guard was walking around with a 127,000$ piece of equipment...
Adrian Shepard inspects his Powered Combat Vest, a military produced variant of the HEV suit’s technology, along with his other equipment. The others in his unit are joking around. He’s making sure that if their helicopter crashes, he won’t get impaled on the wreckage or suffocate from an improperly secured gas-mask. A grim man, that Adrian Shepard. But not a paranoid one. At least...not unjustly paranoid.
13% chance of a Resonance Cascade.
Gordon Freeman is shortly briefed, before witnessing a major equipment malfunction in one of the support systems for the Anti-Mass Spectrometer. The safety measures have been lowered to their absolute limit for a safe reading of the exotic matter present in sample GG-3883. Eli Vance and Isaac Kleiner stay behind to repair it as best they can, but doubts are expressed for the safety of this experiment. Not only was this the largest sample ever put through the analysis procedure, it was the purest and most unstable. The system cannot handle this. Nevertheless, Gordon descends, beginning the process to prepare the Anti-Mass Spectrometer.
27% chance of Resonance Cascade.
Barney Calhoun notices the lights flickering above, as the strain on the facility’s generators is too great to maintain everything. The air feels wrong, the people are uneasy, but they aren’t sure why.
33% chance of Resonance Cascade.
Adrian Shepard showers alone once the others had finished, as he preferred the quiet. He steps out and stares into the mirror. Did he ever plan for a life other than this? Was he going to be a grunt, doing wetwork until he died? Would he ever grow old? Did he even want the chance?
These are the things a quiet man thinks when he trains to murder civilians for knowing too much, when he knows nothing at all.
49% chance of Resonance Cascade.
The sample is brought up. The Spectrometer is powered to levels that the system cannot handle for an extended period. Gordon Freeman pushes the sample in.
100% of Resonance Cascade
At once, the machinations of two vast powers clash. A meddler who has carefully manipulated the pieces into position, who provided funding, who held authority and power despite not a single living human recognizing him. Who had changed things...made sure certain discoveries were made, and others were not. Who had done all this, changed the course of human history...Because his employers had a vendetta against Something Else Entirely, using the Resonance Cascade as a flare to bring them to this world.
But at the same time, a vast psychic force, master of an enslaved race of enlightened psychics, creator of twisted weaponized flesh and guns that shoot bees at you, a creature that had harnessed its own power and the power of its thralls to peer into the world beyond them-and the worlds that were yet to be-and it knew of the meddler’s plans. A conflict with the force he had directed his enmity towards was not something the creature could allow, as an invasion of Earth...would pass through it’s Borderworld.
So, the creature took control of the Cascade. In most situations, a Resonance Cascade occurred when an object begins to vibrate at the exact frequency required to begin “Resonating”, meaning it has started to emit energy that causes the same reaction in other matter, which then cause the reaction both in the original matter and the matter around them, massively weakening the fabric of space and the barriers beyond one world and the worlds that border them. This chain reaction was self sustaining, but did not spread laterally in the space it originated. Instead, it would spread to other worlds-Exchanging matter between them at random as the two spaces began to blend.
The Psychic Force stopped the cascade in Xen, forcing it to focus on sustaining the reaction between just those two worlds, weakening its hold...but allowing it to send its forces (And hostile wildlife) to Earth, to destroy the systems that caused this-To stop the cascade with the death of every human in the facility. To this end, it maintained the cascade in a lesser form.
The Meddler had predicted something of this sort. He had...preparations in place. Including two agents of chaos...
Gordon Freeman awakes to the destroyed remains of the Anti-Mass Spectrometer, dazed and confused. He has seen alien worlds, and nearly died several times. They won’t be the last for a very long time.
Adrian Shepard’s unit is alerted to their next deployment. They gear up, enter the choppers, and ride. A Manta Ray that shits lasers destroys their helicopter, and Adrian Shepard is glad he charged his vest that morning.
Barney Calhoun desperately tries to escape the deadly forces that were flooding the facility. He was not a piece in a cosmic game. He was just...some guy.
An unexpected enemy appears. Marauders that only seek to steal resources before greater threats stake claim on this newly opened world. They are repelled by the Meddler’s more trained agent, as Adrian Shepard trades one amoral faceless master that decided who he killed for another.
But the Psychic Force...The Nihilanth. Its death would come by a different hand. One clad in orange and black, swinging a bright red strip of metal. Gordon Freeman frees a race, stops an alien invasion, and was prepared to die in an impossible world for his troubles-all to save lives. But he did good work. He was the right man for the job. He’s “Hired”.
In the end, the Meddler’s plans worked better than anyone could expect. His true targets were alerted, preparing their forces to take the Earth. The lesser marauders repelled and the psychic barrier dealt with, making the blue marble seem an even sweeter prize. Several agents obtained for his schemes, to be deployed when and where they would be appropriate. Dangerous alien life and Portal Storms-the aftershocks of a Resonance Cascade-prevented the governments from truly being able to prepare.
The Combine arrive. The war lasts seven hours. Wallace Breen negotiates humanity’s surrender. Isaac Kleiner and Eli Vance firmly disagree with this course of action. Judith Mossman, another survivor of the Black Mesa Incident, is less sure.
The last human child for the next two decades is born. The Combine establish a field that prevents human procreation. Other hostile alien life begins to take hold-Antlion Nests, hives of Headcrabs, Barnacles spreading, ichthyosaurs stalking the oceans and lakes. Combine weapons-made from heavily modified creatures from previous conquests-are regularly deployed, roaming the streets in shows of force. Humans are converted into their police, enhanced infantry, special forces...and lobotimized worker slaves.
The Meddler waits for a red-letter day, and he chooses his agent carefully. To destroy a machine like the Combine, one needed not a precision implement. Military training would do nothing against a force that conquered worlds in hours. No, Adrian Shepard-a knife in human sheath-would be unfit for this.
What one needed to destroy the Combine was a blunt thing. A force of chaos that couldn’t be stopped. Whose strength was matched only by his luck. His intelligence, matched only by his willingness to do things like drive a muscle car into hyper-agile flechette-firing cyborgs, or throw a toilet at a man’s face so hard his skull is obliterated and he backflips twice before hitting the ground. Or fight a helicopter from an airboat equipped with a fully automatic plasma cannon.
To break a machine of World Consumption, the G-Man would ram a crowbar into the mechanism, just where it can cause the maximum damage-and keep causing damage to the entire thing. The right man in the wrong place.
Gordon Freeman wakes up on a train car, as it pulls into the City 17 station, deeply confused and disoriented. The moment he steps out, a floating camera photographs his face-which would soon enough be processed and identified as Anticitizen One, Gordon Freeman, the most wanted man on the planet-who had been gone for twenty years and looked identical to the day the Black Mesa Incident occurred. Minus the ponytail. His old boss is on a giant viewscreen. One of the aliens he used to fight is sweeping. Cops in gasmasks maintain a fascist state and he’s somewhere in Eastern Europe. His confusion and disorientation deepens severely.
Wallace Breen receives notice that Gordon Freeman had been sighted. A pit forms in his stomach. He feels a familiar hand in this. Within a few days, he will be screaming high-concept threats from an ascending sphere of energy as a former research assistant flings tightly condensed plasma orbs at him with a gravity cannon.
The G-Man continues to meddle, despite the intervention of a hive mind of benevolent psychics. His plans are, for the most part, undeterred. However...
He begins to regret deploying Gordon Freeman. Chaos, while able to be directed, is quite hard to wrangle when it’s gotten loose. For now, Freeman continues to act in favor of the disruption of Combine operations. But...his personal connection to a secondary objective-another new agent to recruit-sours the G-man’s elation at a plan more or less well executed. The end of this, however, is still untold.
Because who fucking knows when they’re making Half Life Goddamn 3.

Lottie! I had an idea :3 Kylo and Hux’s daughter keeps using the force to cause mischief around the ship. (Nothing too disastrous) Kylo finds it funny and Hux is trying so hard to not laugh or be amused when he’s giving her a talking to. But sometimes but their little ones antics and abilities are just too cute 💕
The Finalizer is at the centre of a First Order mystery: droids are going missing.
A few hours into his shift, Hux was alerted to a few mouse droids deviating from their set tasks but he chose to leave it to the programmers to sort out, suppressing his childish cares about the droids and focussing on the budget meeting that he was hosting, but since then, BB-units and sentry droids had disappeared from their posts and their commanding officers hadn’t a clue to their whereabouts. With the potential of this being the work of a spy, Grand Marshal Hux was drafted onto the case with a handful of the Order’s most elite stormtroopers to follow the trail of missing droids.
“Spread out,” Hux orders, marching along the line of white-and-red suited stormtroopers. “And search thoroughly. We have TIEs standing by in nearby space in case the thief tries to escape with our droids but it is up to you to find the culprit.”
“Yes, sir,” the troopers all chime in unison before fanning out from the hangar bay in pairs, one wileding a blaster and the other wielding mech-scanning tech.
Hux watches them go with an arched eyebrow, wondering what a spy could possibly want with their mouse droids and BB-units—
His wrist-comm buzzes, flashing red with an incoming voice call.
“Hux,” he announces, bringing the thin, black-strapped device up to his lips.
“I’ve solved your case, detective.”
Hux rolls his eyes, “This isn’t a game, Ren. Some of those droids hold important information. BB-9E is our personal aide. He lives in our chambers! This is serious. I don’t have time to play with you.”
He’s about to hang up on his husband/Supreme Leader but the man speaks again, “Come to Common Room 18-B and you can see for yourself.”
Strange, Hux thinks as he ends the call and begins his walk to the turbolift, that recreation room has been empty since it was re-painted; a crude drawing of the Supreme Leader and his grand marshal somehow found its way onto one of the walls, though Hux had been most annoyed at the misspelling of his name.
The Grand Marshal knows his beloved Finalizer like the back of his hand so he arrives at Common Room 18-B within a few minutes. Even just being on the other side of the door, Hux can hear familiar chirps, whistles and beeps from his mechanical crew. He readies his hand upon the blaster on his belt, wondering if Ren’s call had been a hoax and this is a trap to kill him, but if he knows about the trap before he walks into it, is he the victor already?
Without hesitating for a moment longer, Hux presses the open button on the door’s command panel and it swishes open, making Hux draw his blaster quickly into an offensive pose.
“Mama!”
Hux’s mouth falls agape. His four year old daughter sits on the floor in the middle of the room, surrounded by the missing droids. Emiliana’s favourite patchwork blanket—the one the Hux lovingly stitched together for her whilst he was pregnant—is spread out on the floor with her plushie toys and toy tea cups all around her.
“Emi,” Hux sighs, putting his blaster away quickly, hiding it with a swish of his greatcoat. “What’s all this?”
“Tea party!” And all the droids chirp and whistle happily in obvious agreement, using their Binary language to express their joy at being invited to the princess’s regal affair.
“I told you so,” Ren chimes in, approaching from behind with his arms folded. Hux turns to him and speaks quietly.
“Wipe that smirk off of your face right now, Ren. Don’t look so amused,” Hux playfully slaps Ren’s arm. “The droids aren’t toys for her to play with. I’ve got troopers looking to exterminate a spy.”
“She’s just trying out her powers,” Ren takes Hux’s hand, leading him to the edge of Emi’s circle of droids and they both watch her chatter away to them like they’re her friends; it reminds Hux of his younger self.
“What did she do to them?”
“Not to them,” Ren shakes his head. “To the officers. She implanted suggestions into their minds about giving their droids to her for the afternoon. The more weak-minded fools couldn’t resist her request and signed their droids over to her. Niney tracked them here for me.”
“Hells help me,” Hux flattens his palm against his forehead, exhausted by his daughter’s Force antics already and she’s still a toddler—mostly. “I’m going to be fully grey before she’s seven.”
“She’s done no harm, Hux.”
“Perhaps not this time, Ren, but where will her ‘trying out’ of her powers take her next? Suggesting our troopers open fire on our own officers? Mess around with the oxygen levels? Order us into the air lock—”
“Stop it,” Ren growls, squeezing Hux’s hand and silencing him immediately. “Don’t do that. Don’t make her guilty of things that she may or may not do. I told you that she’s done no harm. I was here to watch her, guide her, just like I always will be. Don’t be afraid of your own daughter, Armitage. You’ll push her away.”
Ren’s dark eyes are filled with fear, failing to hide the hurt that still haunts him from waking and seeing his Uncle standing above him with the intent to kill—a destiny decided for him.
“You’re right,” Hux sighs, leaning in to place an apologetic kiss on Ren’s cheek. “You’re right, Kylo. I’m sorry, my love. Forgive me.”
“Always.” The kiss is reciprocated.
“Ew, Mama! Dada! Stop kissing!”
Hux and Kylo smile, breaking apart when they feel their daughter’s little hands pulling at their trousers, wanting attention. Her messy dark hair falls in her face as she drops back down onto the floor, continuing her hosting of a droid tea-party.
“Emi, listen to Mama for a moment, hmm?” Hux kneels down to her level, keeping his voice soft and quiet.
“This is for you, Mama,” Emi says, thrusting an empty cup into his hands. “It’s tarine tea!”
“Oh, delicious! My favourite,” he says, pretending to sip before putting the cup down and becoming a little more serious. “Darling, I know that you’re having fun at your tea party and I can see that all of your droids are having fun too but, next time, will you ask Dada or I if you want to play with them? Some of them have very important jobs to do but they can play with you when they’re done working.”
Hux feels Kylo’s reassuring hand on his shoulder, his voice in his mind; ‘well said, Armitage.’
“Okay, Mama,” Emi says, nodding. “I’m sorry.”
“No, sunshine,” Hux opens his arms and sweeps his daughter up into his hold, kissing her head and cuddling her close. “You haven’t done anything wrong so you don’t have to say sorry. Understand? Dada and I are happy to see that you’re happy.”
The droids around them add in their thoughts, telling their Grand Marshal that they’re very happy too and that Emi has taken good care of them all. Hux smiles, proud. He can’t stay mad at his daughter, just like he can’t stay mad at her father. He has a weakness for dark-haired, doe-eyed Rens.

Crowning (9)
Over Dinner
Previous (Lady Ren) Entire Series
“Please be sure to visit me some time.” You held Ms. Silver in a warm embrace. “I will.” The two of you pulled away and gave each other one last glance. Then, suddenly, Ms. Silver curtsied. You swallowed, forced a smile, and bowed your head--having no clue what to actually do. You blew her a kiss, then led SL-001 out of the apartment.
As you walked through the base, people tipped their hats or bowed to you. Everyone greeted you with genuine warmth. They were...happy for you. They called you “Lady Ren”. The adulation gave you butterflies and scared you, all at the same time--and you endured it until you entered Kylo’s quarters. Your new quarters. You urged SL-001 to return to his usual business, but Kylo had ordered him to help you unpack. It didn’t take long--for you didn’t have much.
After unpacking, you maneuvered through more bows and hat tips to make your way to the mess hall. You grabbed some lunch to go, and on your way out, you crossed into Lumi’s path.
“Lumi...hi...” He bowed. “Your highness. Your majesty. Your imminence.” “Please stop,” you said with a chuckle. “Congratulations,” he said, seemingly forcing a smile. “Thanks.” “So, I guess this means that our short friendship comes to an end...?” You looked down, then back into his eyes. “I’m afraid so, Lumi. But I want you to know that it’s not because I want it to. It’ll be better for both of us. Safer.” “I have some hope that it won’t mean the end. But, I guess I have to take the route of wisdom, for now,” he said. You smiled at him and held out your hand. “Take care of yourself, Lumi.” Lumi shook your hand. “You do the same. Lady Ren.” ******************** You’d spent the rest of the day in your new quarters, mostly resting and mentally redecorating the space. At one point, you pulled out your notepad and began writing out baby names. You were too mentally exhausted to walk back out into the sea of bowing people. For a mid-day snack, you grabbed a healthy bar. You would have made a smoothie, but Kylo still seemed to have a thing against stocking up on food from the base’s market. Apparently, he didn’t throw food away, either.
Finally, you gave into your boredom and did what most people do when they’re bored and confined to a space. You took a damned nap.
The sound of the blast doors flying open woke you up. Kylo walked into the quarters, followed by Clinker and one of the mess hall’s evening cooks, Tarsi. They held dome-covered plates in their hands, and you jumped up to greet them.
“Clinker! Tarsi!” you shouted. Kylo walked past you, saying nothing. He came into the bedroom as you stepped out. “Good evening, Lady Ren,” they said at the same time. They bowed, then placed the plates on the table. “I’ve prepared a special dinner for you and Supreme Leader Ren,” Tarsi said. You lifted a dome to reveal a moist-looking piece of grilled chicken breast beside a piece of baked fish, rice, and mixed veggies. You took the scent in. Tarsi pulled two rolled napkins from his deep pocket and placed them on both sides of the domes. “It looks good, Tarsi. Thank you so much.” “You’re quite welcome, Lady Ren,” Tarsi said, tipping his head. “That’ll be all,” Kylo’s voice boomed from the bedroom. He wasn’t visible, but you could tell his helmet was gone. Tarsi cleared his throat. “Enjoy, Lady Ren.” “Yes, have a good evening,” Clinker added. “Thank you both.”
They bowed, then turned around. But Tarsi stopped and faced you. “Oh, goodness. What would you like to drink, Lady Ren?”
“I’ll just fix us some water, Tarsi,” you said with a smile.
Clinker pressed the switch to open the blast doors, and the both of them left you alone with Kylo. He re-emerged from the bedroom wearing just a robe and breezed past you, heading straight for the bathroom. “Eat,” he said. He disappeared and turned the shower on. “You’re not joining me?” you called to him. “I need to clean myself,” he responded.
You’d nibbled at the food on your plate—closing your eyes as the flavors overtook your tongue. Nothing in the mess hall ever tasted this good. Then, instead of eating, you opted to sit on the sofa and wait for Kylo to join you. The shower stopped running and you heard him shuffling around. He finally came out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist and his hair darkened with dampness. He turned to you with raised eyebrows.
“Is the food not good?” he asked.
You twiddled your thumbs. “It is, but...I was waiting for you...”
He didn’t say anything. He just nodded and walked into the bedroom. You walked back to the table, lifted the dome and took a bite of your vegetables—still warm. You poured two glasses of cool water, placed them by the domes, and sat down. After about five minutes, Kylo came out of the room wearing a robe and socks—his hair a little more dry and a woodsy scent moved when he did. You were suddenly aware that you were still in your day clothes. He sat at the table with you, then just stared.
“Feed my child, please,” he “requested”. “And yourself.”
You smiled, lifted your dome and dug in, and Kylo did the same. Moments of forks and knives clinking against plates filled the silence.
“You aren’t training tonight?” you asked.
“No.” “Have you been archiving the meeting minutes?”
“The droid records them,” Kylo answered. He didn’t look away from his plate. He just ate. Suddenly, you felt the loneliness start to creep in again. You began to poke at your food. “What’s wrong?” he asked. You looked up and he was staring right at you. “Nothing...” you said. “I can feel it. Why are you feeling lonely?!” he demanded to know. “Why are you raising your voice at me?!” Kylo drew in a deep breath, and let it out through his nostrils. “I don’t understand you.” You relented. You had to remind yourself that some things he just really doesn’t fucking get.
“Kylo, I’m trying to talk to you over dinner and you’re responding like you’d rather I not talk,” you said. You began to poke at your food some more.
You heard the air leave Kylo’s nostrils. “Look, I know talking over dinner isn’t about to be your thing, so forget I said anything,” you added. You finally stuck a carrot in your mouth.
“The BB-9E unit records the meetings and stores them,” Kylo said. “I’ve tasked the droid department with upgrading its storage capabilities.” He cut into his chicken.
You bit down on your lip to hide a smile. That was a start. “Would you like to know what I did today?” He looked into your eyes and nodded.
“After I put away my things, I...I started writing down baby names...”
Kylo’s right cheek caved in a bit, then his bottom lip curled in. He cleared his throat, stopping the smile from appearing. “What have you come up with?”
“Oh, it’s such a long list,” you said. You opened your mouth to rattle names off.
“Can I see it?”
“Sure,” you said. You rose from the table, grabbed your notepad from the small desk in Kylo’s bedroom. Your bedroom. Then, you returned to the table. You handed him the notepad and sat down.
“Kendall...Zhion...Kyla...Seleste...these are nice,” he said.
He read all the way down the notepad then placed it down. “Come to me.”
You raised an eyebrow and walked over. As you stood over him, he gazed up at you, then rested his hand against your belly. Then, he turned you around and pulled you down onto his lap. His left hand rested on your hip, and he put his right against your belly again. You took in his face, searching for his thoughts with your minimal human capabilities. Suddenly, his face fell solemn.
“What’s wrong?” you asked.
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Now, wait...you can’t get upset with me when I say nothing is wrong, and then do the same,” you said.
“I didn’t say “nothing” was wrong. Something is wrong but I don’t want to talk about it.”
Your eyebrows lifted and you nodded, accepting your defeat. “That’s very effective.”
Air shot out of Kylo’s nostrils. “Finish your dinner.”
You rose from his lap and returned to your seat. Your food was pretty lukewarm now.
“The astronomy department is drawing up reports on nearby planets. Safe, inhabitable.”
“We’re leaving Exegol?” you asked.
“We will split the Final Order between Exegol and the new planet. I want a home built for you and the child right away. Everything else will follow.”
“So, I won’t be here anymore?” you asked, sadness in your voice.
He looked up at you. “You may visit your friends if you’d like. But I have no intention of raising my children on a base. Especially one on this dry planet.”
You nodded. “That’s true.” You began to blush. Kylo really seemed interested in fatherhood. Images of him holding a baby in his arms flashed across your mind. It filled your stomach with butterflies. You scooped up the remnants of your rice, hoping your chewing would conceal your desire to grin. ____________________ TAG LIST @aloneandsleepless @tsarinastorm If you’d like to be tagged, leave a comment here, or on my official tag request post!

OTAS: Ch. 5
The Getaway
By the time the lift mechanic reaches the scene, there is far more damage to the elevator and surrounding hall than just the reported call button. A chill runs down his spine as he is greeted by the ominous sway of flickering lights, unbound from their place in the ceiling. The strong stench of burning rubber assaults his nostrils. Setting down his bag, he takes out his data pad to assess the situation; his peripheral view alerting him to the Commander's presence. There across the data pad screen are two flashing prompts: “ERROR / “DAMAGE”.
“No shit,” he whispers under his breath as he stares at the door currently still smoking from the searing attack. He knows that in order to fully understand the severity of the issues, he needs to connect directly to the elevator computer system. This means two things: finding a working panel and restarting the halted car.
On the other side of the hall, Kylo stands… waiting. “How long until it is ready?” he questions. The chilling, robotic voice raises the hairs on the back of the worker's neck.
If it were any other person, the mechanic would laugh from the ridiculousness of it. The cosmetic repair alone will take days, not minutes. The mechanic prides himself on the speed of his repairs, perhaps the fastest in the Order (aside from Rose Tico, who was unavailable to take the call). But he doubts that even she could fix this fast enough for the Commander.
“I am still assessing, Commander Ren. I will need to move to another floor to access a working panel. I will return when I have news.” The mechanic is grateful for the chance to distance himself from the sinister leader.
“No, I will go too,” Kylo states. The news drains the blood from the mechanic's face.
“Very well, Sir,” replies the man trying to hide his growing panic. Still frozen in place, he watches as Kylo turns the wrong way down the hall. It hits him that this is a common floor, typically unused by anyone above a Captain’s rank. Despite the assurance in his walk, Kylo did not know where he was going. Seeing his Commander in a rare moment of vulnerability, the mechanic chooses his next words carefully. “Excuse me, Sir.” Kylo stops, but does not turn around. “If you don't mind, I know of a lesser known staircase this way. It will be faster.” He holds his breath, hoping the his Commander accepts the white lie. Kylo turns on his heal and gives a subtle nod, the relieved man leads the way.
With his bag of tools on the floor, the mechanic begins his work and connects his data pad to the intact panel. A restless Kylo peers down the hallway at a congregated stormtrooper group standing at attention, most likely receiving orders. At that moment, the soft rolling of a BB-9E droid passes by his boots. Smirking behind his mask, he jerks his wrist and the droid flies through the air - striking the white armored group, collapsing upon impact. “Direct hit,” Kylo murmurs to himself as the pile of discombobulated troops attempt to regain composure.
As the mechanic works, the man’s tedious thoughts drone on in Kylo's brain. For months he has struggled with sleep, but now he feels as though he could sleep standing up from sheer boredom. But then there is an abrupt pause in the stream of consciousness.
“That’s strange...” the man considers, and Kylo’s interest immediately piques. “So it wasn’t from the damage…huh. No, it was a forced reboot. But how? Nothing was scheduled in the system.”
Within one long stride, Kylo closes the distance between he and the man; grabbing him by the shirt and pulling him up to eye level.
“What do you mean, forced reboot!?”
“I…uh… I’m not sure. Someone would have to be at the mainframe computer to put in the order,” admits the man now convinced his life would end right here in this hallway.
“Where is the elevator now?!” Kylo booms.
Trembling the man looks down at his data pad and gulps, “R6.”
Kylo drops the mechanic to the floor as he thinks aloud, “The cell block. The trooper.” Looking down at the crumpled man, “I need this lift to move NOW!”
“I’m so sorry, Sir, but... but the system will not restart until it completes the cycle. It’s impossible for me to call the car until it finishes the restart.”
“THEN WHEN?!” Kylo bellows as he uses the force to pick up the mechanics bag. Throwing it across the hall, tools fly out and crash to the floor.
The man, his body twitching in fear, grabs his data pad, “Six minutes, Sir.”
“Six minutes and not a second more,” Kylo warns.
***
Your brain is still reeling from the events with the pilot. As you retrace your steps back to the elevator you recall his firm chest, his satisfied groans, and the skill of his mouth. Oh that mouth. In all your years alone, you had never experienced the thorough sensation of shared desire. Typically you are the one emoting pleasure outward, but his ability to pour it back into you left your body craving more. Although you know better, you consider turning around and making the most of the last few minutes alone.
Suddenly the deafening hum of the machine restarting snaps you from your daydream. Your body freezes as you realize that the elevator is no longer a getaway option, it was never an option. Of all the planning to reach the cell, you didn't consider how you would escape without the elevator. Running into Kylo Ren wasn’t part of the plan. With the whirring elevator back in service and the numbers noted above getting lower, Kylo would be arriving at any moment. There is no way you could face him again, your energy is too spent to try and control any more emotions. No, your only way out is to run and hide until the coast is clear. You turn towards a nearby hall and a patrol guard instantly detects you.
“Explain yourself,” states the suspicious guard. As he marches closer, the remnants of your escapades with Poe waft off of you, weakening his knees with each step. “Wow… I… ummm…,” he babbles incoherently. Once face to face, he falls to the floor with a thud.
“STAIRS! Where are the stairs?!” you yelp at the convulsing man below you.
He ignores your request and continues his vulgar moans as his mind swirls with pleasure. He raises a hand, and you barely make out a finger pointing to a door on the far side of the corridor.
Attempting to run, your muscles seize in fatigue. You feel as though your body will give out at any moment.
"It's too much, I'll never make it... No! Stay positive!" You will yourself to keep moving, knowing any damning thought may cripple you. As the door opens your heart sinks. There, on the other side of the door is darkness, not even a glimmer of light. This can't be right. Backing away from the door you hear the elevator ding open and the mumble of voices. You throw yourself across the threshold and pray the zip of the closing door goes unnoticed.
You are now inside the void. Hands stretched outward in hopes of feeling a staircase, you press on. The blinding darkness makes it impossible for your eyes to adjust. The rustle of heavy armor clamors loudly, alerting anyone within earshot of your location. Stripping the dead weight, you continue slinking through the dark hall in your black unitard. Suddenly, the feeling of slick steel on your hand gives way into an opening, you turn and collide at once with rusty bars. It dawns on you. This isn't the way to stairwell, this is the dungeon. These are the cells where forgotten people wait out their last moments. Fear strikes you, and you keel over in weariness. Rest, you need rest. You consider hiding in the empty cell to regain your strength, but decide against it since it would only make capturing you that much easier if you are found. You must keep going.
As you trudge down the black passageway, you hear the swoosh of the door you escaped through. Flinging your body against the wall, you clutch your chest to slow your breathing to a stop. You watch as a tall, back lit figure steps through the doorway, your eyes unable to make out any details except for the outline of a helmet. The door shuts, shrouding the room in darkness once again. Your pounding heart echoes in your ears, until the sound is abruptly eclipsed by the thud of heavy footsteps. The stomping grows louder, nearer, and you decide to make peace with your fate. This is the end, there is no where to run, and you allow your defeated body to slide down the wall in surrender. Right before you reach the floor a cold, powerful hand snatches your arm.
Into the darkness you cry, “Please! Please understand… I was just trying to help!”
“Hello Master Y/N. *Beep Beep Current status - satisfactory. No need for service,” informs the Security droid, recognizing you.
Crying with relief you pull the humanoid-shaped droid into a hug. Your heart swells with gratitude and before you can calm your already spent emotions, your unconscious body collapses into the robotic arms.

Pakistan under the pressure from American and Chinese weapons
Pakistan is trapped busy offsetting protection relations with China and the US. At the eleventh international defense exhibition and seminar (International Defense Exhibition and Seminar, abbreviated as IDEAS) in Karachi, this situation in Pakistan has become completely clear. At the exhibition, seven Chinese defense companies displayed their advanced weapons in front of representatives from more than 50 countries and regions. Among the Chinese weapons on display were the Wing Lung drone, a CH-series drone, a multirole drone ship, a Y-9E transport aircraft, LY-70 air defense system, VT-4 Main Battle Tank (MBT), SRS Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), YLC-2E multirole radar, a command information system, an electronic warfare defense system, etc. The Chinese Communist Party-run Global Times reported this news. Global Times noted in their report, Pakistan is already using a considerable amount of Chinese military equipment. These include VT-4 MBT, SH-15, self-propelled howitzers, Type 054 A/P frigates, JF-17 and J-10C fighter jets, JDK-03 early warning aircraft, etc. Adding to the propitiatory consequences of getting these weapons, By and large Times clear that a Pakistani security official, who didn't wish to be named, said that the Chinese military stuff is "generally speaking famous" and is expecting a model part in shielding joint effort among Pakistan and China. China and Pakistan should expand their security ties, state-run Overall Times expressed, alluding to a mysterious Chinese military expert. Because Chinese weapons have made Pakistan's national defense a 'system' or 'system'. China's arms items to Pakistan are more likely than not highlighted diverting India's fundamental thought from their bringing line banter up in the Himalayas (which has transmitted into risky violence lately). Besides, China may be trying to arm Pakistan to counter terrorist threats against its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Since, inside this BRI project, there is a danger of psychological oppressor assaults on the China-Pakistan Financial Passageway and robbery from the Persian Inlet and the Horn of Africa, which was working with the subsidizing of Beijing-Islamabad at an expense of 6 billion bucks working together. Chinese exports of military equipment to Pakistan may be of questionable quality. Hence, Pakistan's tradition of Western weapons, including US-made F-16 contender jets from the 1980s, is as yet thought to be the most impressive resource dynamic against its long-term rival, India. In an article published in the June issue of the geopolitical magazine this year, defense expert Fabbri de Valerio pointed out that faulty electronics, severe engine malfunctions, and ineffective weapons of the four Zulfiqar frigates purchased earlier from China have degraded the Pakistani navy's capabilities. In addition, The Print reported in April last year that Pakistan is facing technical problems with its Chinese-made tanks, radars, and air defense systems; The tanks failed the post-delivery test and the cannons were not working. This low-quality, unreliable Chinese weapons are forcing Pakistan to maintain its longstanding defense relationship with the United States. During the Cold War, the need to counter India and India's alignment with the Soviet Union were the main catalysts for the US-Pakistan defense relationship. The United States subsequently suspended arms sales to Pakistan in the 1990s due to concerns about nuclear proliferation, and the United States slightly changed its arms policy to Pakistan due to cooperation in counter-terrorism after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Now the US may try to revive its dormant defense relationship with Pakistan to counter China's growing influence in South Asia and use Pakistan as a bargaining chip to keep India in check. Last September, the United States approved a $450 million upgrade package to modernize Pakistan's F-16 fleet, a visible reversal of the longstanding U.S. embargo on arms sales to Pakistan. India has reacted strongly to this US move to renew Pakistan's F-16s. Read the full article

<BIG MOUTH> ARTICLE TODAY‼️
Tonight: #BigMouthEp6
[History] Lee Jong Suk's run with dark charisma! thrilling and intense
• Is Lee Jong Suk the real 'Big Mouse'? Dense smoke passed! Breaking ratings every day
• 'An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth' Lee Jong Suk, can't stand touching his wife, anger button turned on
Actor Lee Jong Suk was equipped with dark charisma and caused goosebumps.
In the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Big Mouse' (written by Kim Haram, directed by Oh Choong-hwan, produced by A-Story, Studio Dragon, and A-Man Project), Lee Jong Suk once again caused a thrill. He captivated the small screen by adding persuasive power to the reversal of the plot with his meticulous acting skills.
As proof of this, the 5th episode recorded 10% in the metropolitan area and 9.8% nationwide (based on Nielsen Korea paid households), breaking its own highs every day.
In the last 5 episodes, Park Chang-ho (Lee Jong-suk) passed the 'Big Mouse' test by Gong Ji-hoon (Yang Kyung-won). He accurately presented a list of five drug dealers, and his changed eyes and facial expressions made him believe that he was a Big Mouse. Then, Peter Hong (Shin Seung-hwan), who would falsely state that he saw the Big Mouse, died in the interrogation room, and the shock was further doubled. Park Chang-ho's next target, who had nothing to fear, was the NR Forum trio who were imprisoned as a suspect in the 'Gucheon University Hospital Murder Case'. Park Chang-ho urged the three of them to confess, “Otherwise you all will die. Inside this, as a questionable person,” he threatened.
His move to move in accordance with the Big Mouse Law was only bloody. In particular, there was no hesitation or compromise for those who touched his wife Go Mi-ho (Lim Yoon-ah). Choi Do-ha (Kim Joo-heon), who raises the Miho Go Mi-ho, asking what the hell is it, said to Gucheon Mayor, “Let’s not cross the line. I am responsible for my wife,” he said in a cold anger. He never backed down even from Gong Ji-hoon. He sent chrysanthemum flowers to Gong Ji-hoon's wife, Ashley Kim (Kim Gyu-sun), and said, "My Miho, touch it one more time. I'll send you the most terrible gift in the world," she added, making her heart flutter.
The appearance of lawyer Park Chang-ho, who had to use the frame of Big Mouse to survive and protect his family, was completely erased. Now, Park Chang-ho is throwing out the force of Big Mouse, the king of the dark world, confusing viewers. Park Chang-ho's suspense was possible because of Lee Jong Suk's excellent acting skills. Lee Jong Suk changes even the temperature of the air with a single meaningful word and a change in his eyes. His cold face, incapable of knowing good and evil, created a multi-layered tension. Attention is focused on whether Park Chang-ho is a real big mouse and how far Lee Jong Suk's transformation will go.
Meanwhile, the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Big Mouse' starring Lee Jong Suk is broadcast every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.

SpaceX Rocket Launch Plume over California Image Credit & Copyright: Craig Bobchin
Explanation: What's happened to the sky? On Friday, the photogenic launch plume from a SpaceX rocket launch created quite a spectacle over parts of southern California and Arizona. Looking at times like a giant space fish, the impressive rocket launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base near Lompoc, California, was so bright because it was backlit by the setting Sun. Lifting off during a minuscule one-second launch window, the Falcon 9 Heavy rocket successfully delivered to low Earth orbit ten Iridium NEXT satellites that are part of a developing global communications network. The plume from the first stage is seen on the right, while the soaring upper stage rocket is seen at the apex of the plume toward the left. Several good videos of the launch were taken. The featured image was captured from Orange County, California, in a 2.5 second duration exposure.

War Thunder military online action has a new crafting event
Future Technology event still on for War Thunder in Linux gaming, Mac and Windows PC. Thanks to the continuing efforts of Gaijin Entertainment. Which releases the event via Steam and the official website. The Future Technology event for the military online action War Thunder is still going. While giving players the chance to get new but rare vehicles until the 12th of April. The prizes are: the Soviet SU-76D SPG, the Japanese JDS Yūgure destroyer, and the US XM8 light tank. As well as an early version of the German F-4F fighter jet. Future Technology is a crafting event where players participate in regular War Thunder battles. Then gather resources, ammunition, and blueprints that are essential to build a futuristic Minotaur tank. These Minotaur tanks can also be exchanged for the four new rare vehicles mentioned above. The SU-76D was an experimental tank destroyer with a low silhouette. An including features of armor plates and a diesel engine. Which is a product of the Soviet engineers during World War II. But was not used in serial production because of the problems with the locally produced and amply powerful diesel engine.

Yūgure was originally a Fletcher class US destroyer that Japan received at the end of 1950’s. So it was modified and used as an anti-submarine and training vessel. Five dual 40mm Bofors cannons allow Yūgure to easily take care of any smaller vessels and aircraft. The XM8 AGS was a test unit American light tank. Developed in the early 1990’s in an effort to replace the Army’s outdated M551 Sheridan tanks. But only prototypes of this machine exist. The 105 mm XM35 rifled cannon and a 550 hp diesel engine give XM8 enough firepower and mobility. There is an option to install additional composite screens onto the vehicle. Also enhancing its protection. The F-4F was the export version of the famous Phantom fighter jet for the German Air Force. It’s almost as powerful as the original US variant. The pilot is free to choose from a variety of weapons. So, bombs up to 2,000 pounds, Mighty Mouse and Zuni rockets. Plus a 20mm Vulcan gunpods and three modifications of the deadly Sidewinder air to air missiles. These include AIM-9B FGW-2, AIM-9E, and AIM-9J.
Future Technology event
The Future Technology event is available until April 12th. So you can play now via Linux gaming, Mac, and Windows PC. Which is available on both Steam and the official website.

My Brother’s Keeper
Yeah, I already posted the link on AO3, but I thought I’d put the text version on here too!
Heads up, this does contain spoilers for TLJ, as well as mentions of violence to a pregnant person.
It was an odd thing, a life in space. The gravity was artificial, the oxygen was recycled and filtered many times over, and there was always the threat of the endless vacuum, should anything catastrophic occur.
But perhaps the simplest oddity of life among the stars was the lack of day and night. Starships did not orbit stars, and thus could not provide a sun-filled ‘day’ nor empty ‘night’.
Like everything in the First Order, night had to be scheduled. A section of time for troops and officers to rest when relieved of their duties. Granted, not everyone could sleep at the same time, that would be chaos, not to mention inefficient (what were they, the Resistance?). No, there were different shifts for every duty, including rest and sleep.
Delta shift was perhaps the closest the First Order came to a “night shift,” with the number of flight operations and training exercises fewer than other shifts (barely), and the officers in charge being…perhaps not the most well-liked in the scheduling office. It was hardly like Delta shift was understaffed, it was simply…that staff wouldn’t be called the First Order’s best and brightest.
And that was fine. Nothing exciting ever happened on Delta shift. Stormtroopers did their rounds, officers monitored the systems of their ships, and everyone counted down the nanoseconds from the time 23:00:00.00 came around until the time 05:00:00.00. Every shift. Without fail.
And that delta shift was no different than the hundreds that had passed before. Honestly, the most interesting thing of note would be security noting that General Hux entered the loading bay at 01:42:15.95.
Though, if security had been paying attention, or were perhaps a bit brighter, they would have noticed that at 01:47:36.01, General Hux entered the loading bay for the second time.
The loading bay was hardly a place of heavy foot traffic when there weren’t flight exercises being performed. And it especially wasn’t the place for the General of the First Order to be entering, let alone twice.
Yet, at 01:47:36.01, General Hux stepped into the loading bay, cover pressed down on his head, hands clasped behind his back, and BB-9E rolling dutifully behind him. It wasn’t a grand entrance: those who saw him pass stood at attention to salute him until he waved off the formality. But, being Delta shift, there weren’t that many to begin with. Though perhaps if there had been more people present, someone might have noticed that the General’s greatcoat hung a little baggy around his shoulders, that he didn’t look anyone in the eye, that his hair was… off somehow, that his steps were…rushed, so to speak. But hardly anyone cared about the General’s appearance during Delta shift.
And so, without much trouble at all, General Hux and his droid boarded one of the cargo ships scheduled for departure.
Only to be greeted upon boarding by General Hux already seated at one of the empty command chairs. The real General Hux.
Hux looked over to the impostor as the door to the ship closed, not even a shred of surprise in his expression. “Did you have any trouble?”
The double shook his head, shrugging off the greatcoat without hesitation, “No, I did exactly as you told me to. They didn’t even ask to see my identification.” With that, he removed his cover, allowing his long red tresses to fall down his head and into his face once more.
Hux resisted the urge to roll his eyes, simply standing gingerly (and doing his best to hide his wincing), “Honestly, Bren, you should have cut your hair…” He murmured, brushing the hair from the other’s face. His gloved fingers paused as they brushed the scar tissue above Bren’s eyebrow, and Hux forced himself to not think about what had been written there previously.
Bren shook his head, “We have more important things to worry about, Armie.” He insisted, “And you should be laying down.”
“Are you sure you can do this?” Hux murmured, “If we fail…”
“We won’t fail, brother.” Bren insisted, before turning his attention to the droid at his feet, “Come on, Neini, we’ve got work to do, and not much time.”
BB-9E whirred lowly before rolling over to the cargo ship's main console. It wasn’t long before the protective paneling was removed, and both Bren and Neini were hard at work at the wires beneath.
It wasn’t a matter of being able to fly the cargo ship that was the concern. Both Bren and Armitage could both fly the basic cargo ship with limited difficulty, even Neini could set an autopilot to safely make it from point A to point B without any surprises.
No, it was what was to happen after Bren and Armitage Hux managed to fly the cargo ship out with the other ships going out for their pickups.
They weren’t coming back. And they needed to make sure they couldn’t be tracked, or traced, or pinged or blipped or found in any way. Not by the First Order.
And definitely not by Supreme Leader.
“The Supreme Leader is Dead!”
So many feelings inside him at once, could even begin to put names to even a fraction of them? Was he still in shock? Disbelief? Surely he felt relief, he felt… dare he say it? Hopeful?
But then Ren turned that wicked power on him, that abomination of nature, and he could feel the air being squeezed out of his throat, his lungs. If he wasn’t careful, he would squeeze all the life out of him. All of it.
“All…” He rasped, “..hail Supreme Leader…”
How could he dare to have felt hope? He was no better off than where he had been.
If not worse…
“Armie, wake up.”
Armitage Hux sat up straight at the mention of his name and immediately winced in pain. He shouldn't have fallen asleep in the chair, but he hadn’t thought he would have actually fallen asleep. Not with tensions as high as they were. “Are we ready to go?” He asked, voice dry from sleep.
Bren smiled to him, “We’re already in space. The recordings Neini had worked perfectly.”
Armitage gave Bren a weak smile in return, resting a hand on his arm, “You did well. I’m proud of you…”
Bren rested his hand over his brother’s, hands ungloved, and the digits slightly more slender than Armitage’s, if more callused and slightly singed. Those slender fingers wrapped themselves around Armitage’s arms, “Now come on, I need to take a look at you…”
“There’s really no need…”
“I’m not blind, Armie.” Bren shook his head, “You’ve been walking gingerly the past few hours, and you fell dead asleep in that command chair. When did you last sleep?”
Armitage didn’t answer his brother, mainly because he couldn’t give a definitive answer. Had he managed to find time to sleep between the destruction of Starkiller and the attack on D’Qar? He certainly hadn’t the time for even so much a cup of Arkanis black tea to pick him up during the chaos of the past eighteen…twenty-four… was it thirty hours?
He hadn’t the time to even calculate the hours, as Bren had already laid out both greatcoats on the floor, and was already beginning to work on the buttons of Armitage’s uniform.
When the top half of Armitage’s uniform was removed, and Bren’s expression shifted from one of concern to horror, Armitage could imagine that the bruises were in full color now: black and purple and ugly.
“Oh, Armie…” Bren whispered softly, his eyes whirring softly as his cybernetic eyes focused and refocused on the damage around Armitage's throat. He lowered Armitage to lay down on the makeshift bed, biting his lip worriedly, “Neini, get the first aid kit!”
“No, that won’t help…” Armitage argued weakly, though the droid was already rolling away to fetch said first aid kit.
“Well, hopefully, we can at least get some bacta on these.” Bren murmured softly, his fingers light as they traced the bruises around Armitage’s throat, “…He did this to you?”
Bren didn't have to say who ‘he’ was, but the question still barbed at Armitage, “…Yes…” He whispered weakly.
The younger nodded slowly, his fingers moving aside the sleeve of Armitage’s undershirt, revealing more of the purplish-blackish flesh of Armitage’s shoulder and back.
“Did he throw you?”
“It was—”
“Did he. Throw you?”
He felt stupid, forcing himself to blink back tears as he nodded, “Yes…” He was so weak, so emotional. Sentimental.
“Kriff…” Bren swore softly, as Neini returned with the first aid kit in grasp.
The next few minutes were spent in merciful silence, as Bren slowly applied swabs of bacta ointment over Armitage’s bruised throat and shoulder, only rolling him when absolutely necessary to swab his back. Now that the rush of battle was over, Armitage could feel every bruise right down to his bones. But he wouldn’t take the painkillers. He couldn’t.
After a few moments of heavy stillness, after Bren set aside the bacta, the younger finally spoke.
“Do…you don’t think you lost it, do you?”
Armitage closed his eyes, unable to resist the temptation of touching his abdomen with a tenderness that had previously only been granted to his brother…and him.
“I…I don’t know.” Armitage whispered, “We’d have to find medical facilities to do a full check-up…”
“Then that’ll be the first thing we do.” Bren nodded firmly, standing slowly, “You get some more sleep. Eight hours or more, if you can.”
“I’ll try.” Armitage murmured, though his eyelids were already conspiring against him.
Bren must have noticed that, as he was content to turn his attention back to flying their escape craft and leave Armitage to his own devices.
Once Bren’s back was turned, Armitage moved his other hand to cup his abdomen, unable to stop the rebellious tears from leaking from the corners of his eyes.
