01 - Changing Seasons

校内の2学期の曲。オープニングムービー2にも使われているこの曲。開発初期のデモとして作った曲で、ペルソナ3のサウンドイメージ ＝ この曲、といった感じの曲です。この曲もボーカル部分はサンプリングCDから切り出して、単音部分のピッチを動かして歌わせてそれにプラスコーラスを重ねています。モノローグの声はフランス語ですかね？

02 - Basement

作戦行動中に流れる曲。後半のソロストリングスは最近買った某サンプリング音源で、バイオリンはなかなか良い音してます。

03 - Master of Tartarus

タルタロス中で出現する中ボスの曲。こちらも『Master of Shadow』と同様に元はフィールドと対になっていた曲です。対になっていた フィールド曲は『Changing Seasons 』です。bpmも調も同じなんですね～。サビの部分は川村ゆみさんにアドリブでスキャットしてもらい、そこにディレイをフィードバックさせて混 沌とした雰囲気を出してみました。

04 - これでいいんだ···

荒垣の例のあのシーンの曲、いや、あまり詳しく書いちゃマズいですよね。

05 - Living With Determination

悲しいシーンで流れる曲。悲しい曲は実は25時 (The Voice Someone Calls) で使われているピアノのモチーフを具体化さ せたメロディとなっています。毎プロジェクトでこういった悲しいシーンは見せ場となるので作曲するのには苦労します。

07 - 京都

京都の修学旅行で流れる曲。一応全曲収録CDのためこんな曲まで収録しましたが···、これって環境音楽の類じゃないんですかね？

08 - Afternoon Break

昼休みに放課後の誘いを受けるときに流れる曲で、『Joy』 のアレンジとなっています。コミュイベントで喜びを表現した曲が1つだ と何度も同じ曲が続いてしまうことがあるのでバリエーション違いということで、開発終盤に急遽作った記憶があります。後半のギ ターソロはちょっと60年代の雰囲気のある音色を狙いました。

09 - 時価ネットたなか

ペルソナ3では内輪ウケのネタは避けようという暗黙の (?) コンセプトがあったのですが、シリーズものでサトミタダシ的なものは外せないよなぁということで時価ネットたなかが作られました。「ヒットポイン トー」ほどはじけた内容はちょっと作風に合わないのでやや抑え気味のテンションで。実は某無線のBGMっぽい？一応この手の曲ではお約束となった歌手選定、今回は企画の高屋雅英 (ライドウ担当だったのですが···) に歌ってもらいました。

11 - 10年前の記憶

綾時君とアイギスが対峙するシーンで流れる曲。個人的なことで申し訳ないですが、アイギスの足首、あんまりかわいくない···。

12 - Mistic

神秘的な雰囲気など重要なシーンで流れるこの曲は、タルタロスでも使われているメロディを使っています。このメロディはペルソナ3の重要なモチーフで、オープニングテーマが表だとするとこの曲は裏の重要な主題を表現しているものですね。ニュクスのテーマということでしょうか。

13 - 心の力

この曲も『Mistic』にとても近い雰囲気の曲ですね。

14 - 街の記憶

ディレクター橋野からの要望で新年明けたら全体を暗く悲しい雰囲気にして欲しいとのことで、街の曲も大胆にものすごく悲しい曲にしました。実はこの曲は悲しいシーンのバリエーション違いで用意していたメロディで、ちょっと狙いすぎていた部分もあったので使いどころに苦慮していたのですが街の曲へ変更。新年明けていきなり街でこの曲はすごく雰囲気変えますよね。

15 - 学園の記憶

学校の3学期の曲。新年明けてから雰囲気を変える一環としてこういった曲にしています。メロディにエンディング曲のものを使い終わりが近いことを示唆しています。

16 - Living With Determination -巌戸台分寮アレンジ-

寮の3学期の曲。こちらは『Living With Determination』の悲しいシーンのメロディを使ってアレンジしています。3学期はどこに行っても暗い曲ばかりですね。

18 - 暗闇より出でしもの

ボスとの戦いの前で流れる曲。ペルソナ3はわりとボス前イベントがあっさりしていて早く終わってしまうので、曲も初めに作ったものよりもイントロを短くして早めにメロディが始まるように作りました。真女神転生3ノクターンでは印象的な「デデデン！デデデン！」という曲を作ってしまったがために、あれを越えた曲を作らなければという意識がかなりプレッシャーとなりました。長いことシリーズ物の音楽を担当すると似たようなシーンでも前作より良い曲を書かなければというプレッシャーが強く、これが結構辛いところです···。

19 - 全ての人の魂の戦い

やたらと長いラスボス戦、曲も長めで華々しいやつをということでいつものノリでこんな曲を作りました。最後のサビのメロディですが、女神異聞録のころからなぜか3回繰り返すんですよね。いや、私がそう決めたんですが···。

20 - Nyx

ニュクスが降りてくるシーンの曲。劇場版アニメの盛り上がりどころで流れてきそうなこの曲、ちょっといかにもな作り方ですが世界の終わりが近づいている雰囲気が出ていて良いのではないでしょうか。

21 - 決意

ベルベットルームの最上階を出てニュクスへ向かう主人公、ここで『Mistic』のストリングスだけのアレンジになります。このメロディはトップの音だけ聞くと単純なメロディですが、メロディ全体が和音で動いて いて、内声もトップと平行進行ではなく色々と絡み合って出来ています。なのでバイオリンのトップの音ではなく、例えばチェロの音を聞くとまた違ったメロディに聞こえてくると思います。

22 - Burn My Dread -Last Battle-

オープニングのアニメシーンで主人公のヘッドホンから漏れ聞こえてきていた曲がこの曲です。最後の戦いは印象的な曲で、ということでこの曲になったのですが実は初期段階で はオープニングのシーンでもっとこの曲をフィーチャーするつもりでしたが絵との兼ね合いで曲は少々抑えた演出となりここにきて最後で大きく流れるようになりました。

23 - 絆

卒業式のシーンで流れる曲。忘れていた記憶がよみがえった瞬間の未来が開けていくようなイメージでオープニングテーマのメロディをアレンジしました。

24 - 私が守るから

スタッフロール前のアニメシーン。エンディング周りのイベントシーンは毎プロジェクトそうなのですが今回も試行錯誤を繰り返しかなり時間をかけて練り上げました。

25 - キミの記憶

この曲はエンディングテーマでもありペルソナ3のイメージソングのようなもののつもりで書きました。弊社の小森の作った詞が素晴らしい。エンディング周りのテストプレイで聴いてるとちょっと泣けてくるのは詞が物語と凄くシンクロしてるからではないかと思います。最後の曲は先代の「君のとなり」の感動を凌ぐものを、という意気込みで作ったのですが、出来は皆さんの評価に任せるとして詞には凄く助けられたと思います。

26 - Blues in Velvet Room

最近オレの人のよさを見透かされてる気がする···。まさか社外の人 にまで！サントラの売りになるボーナストラックが欲しいとアニプレックスの足立さんが···。期間的に無理だと答えた後の長い沈黙と煮詰まる会議に耐えきれず、「簡単なアレンジもので一発録りならできますよ」と言ってしまいました。宇田にも手伝ってもらったりして、色々ゴメンね、宇田。曲の方はマスタリング終了間際に作ってたので演 奏がへろへろで申し訳ないのですがご容赦ください。ライブっぽい 危うさが出てるでしょ？

ちなみにマニアックな事を言うと······、Fenderの'73Stratocaster をMar-shallのJTM60に直刺し、ピックアッ ブはフロントでアンプはややゲインを持ち上げた程度のセッティングで弾いています。録音はギターアンプにSM58アンビエンス用にステレオマイクを離して配置、計3本のマイクをマイクアンプを経由しPro-ToolsHDへ24bit、96kHzで3ch同時録音、ミックスダウン後に48kHzに落としマスタリングへ持っていっています。

One of our most pristine albums ever produced. Created using generative ambient techniques with the help of hardware synthesizers for the first time we've created an album. We tried to create our most diverse album to this date. It contains all sorts of E-Stim Audio soundscapes. From ambient to melodic, from deep to high tones, each with their own texture and timing. It's something you have to try and listen to for yourself to see what tracks are most suitable for your particular purpose.

This is a gift to all our subscribers as a thank you token for all your support.

It was one of the hardest album to create and we hope this reflects in the quality of the E-Stim Audio audio tracks.

The album was created in 96Khz 24 Bit using the latest recording and mastering techniques, and we have to say sonically it's one of the best E-Stim Audio albums we've ever created.

This album is completely Tri-Phase ready, as the stereo imaging is top of the line. That's why we can definitely encourage you to use an oscilloscope to analyse the lissajous patterns of the tracks we've created.

Pure Digital versus Pure Analog

From where I sit they can both be pretty good.

Right now I have a TELARC CD spinning. It is pure FN digital. Recorded in 1980 in Atlanta Georgia on a Sound Stream digital tape system. (16 bit 50 kHz! oh dear not CD rebook) The insert says no compression, no limiting, no equalization. How much more pure do you want?

It is my Carmina Burana disc. Chorus and Orchestra doing big music. I hear nothing wrong with it. The treble is way past what my old ears can detect. The Bass is seismic. And yes the ARC Cl60 is on duty so the drums have great texture and I cannot explain how great a chorus of human voices sound.

It would only be better if I understood Latin and Old German from the 12 Century. Then the songs about bad luck, lost love, and not getting the girl while getting drunk would be so in tune with the 20th century experience. (that was my century). I imagine the 21st century aint that different.

The sound is splayed across my wall. Some feels outside the angle of the speakers, but most is stretched clearly between the geometry of their location. It has height which is weird but it is an amazing illusion.

I got no complaints. Well maybe too many mikes so the mix was tricky. The venue space is "complicated".

I think from outside adhering to the dogma of pure this or pure that puts a frame of reference that people will use to throw cold water on the experience of great art. Wow that drum was HUGE.

I will be following this with a pure analog recording. I got lots of those. Where infinite resolution and purity of an analog signal falls down is limiting and equalization. We shall see. They are different.

Analog actually has infinite resolution you know. If the recording is simple you get intimacy. If it is not, well other stuff.

Next up Jazz.

Ok a different purity. Organic? Forgive me in that I have had enough wine to not be a legal motor vehicle operator. But I get a real nice feeling with this one. Jazz at the Pawn shop. From the age before digital. Nagra IV tape decks with a simple mix and just let run. There is no info on mastering or equalization but it is acknowledged as a good one.

The space is good. And yes there is clinking of glasses and silverware. Really cool and natural details. Good? Yes! The music is fine and for purists the performance is not up to New York or Chicago, but damn this is Sweden people!

That vibraphone is spooky.

If I had access to 96kHz DSD I could say bits slay, but I don't. My analog front end is much better than my CD player, but hey to each their own. Oh and I have each.

The main thing is the music.

Music Player in 2023... Why Sony?

The convenience of Bluetooth streaming is great but it is constrained by how much data it can pump through its signal. Though portable music players are preferably used with wired headphones for maximal performance, wired cans have seemingly enjoyed a recent renaissance too.

Smartphones are great for convenience but they’re not necessarily great for sound. As they’re multi-taskers, able to perform a range of functions, that also means they are a product that’s a jack of all trades but master of a few. Support for higher quality music has become better in the portable space with what Qualcomm is doing with its Snapdragon Sound platform and Sony’s innovations with LDAC, but in terms of outright quality for music, you won’t find better than a portable player.

Sony’s announcement of a new and not too expensive Walkman is a sign that portable music players still have a function and a purpose, as well as reminding some they still exist. Most would assume that portable music players have (or are) going the way of the Dodo, slowly passing their way out of relevance. However, we’re still seeing specialists such as Astell & Kern launch new players every year, and just recently FiiO announced the M11S. While Apple killed off the iPod, the rest of the portable player market isn’t interested in joining the scrap heap just yet.

The NW-A306 has a battery life of up to 36 hours of continuous playback, a 3.6-inch display, and because it runs on Android, you can install your favorite streaming apps if you must, although that defeats the point of having all your music with you. You'll still need a computer to load your music onto the device, just like with the iPhone's Music app, but that somehow seems less annoying with a walkman than with a phone. It also has audiophile-level playback at up to 96KHz (more than double the sample rate of a CD), although that's probably not a difference you can hear.

But it's not all upside. For a start, you'll have to carry two devices if you still want to carry your phone. And it's possible that you kind of let your music library slip when streaming came along. I bought a used iPod a while back, and when I loaded up all my songs, there was no music from the last half-decade or so because I'd been streaming it all.

In a wider sense, of this seems to have converged around a greater want for higher quality music on the go. We have for decades limited ourselves in this area as MP3 streaming and downloads were a step in the wrong direction, one that’s taken a long time to reverse. In people’s minds, the quality of what they’re listening doesn’t matter as much as having access to it. We have access to more music than we can fathom at the moment, the area that we need to beef up is the quality we listen at.

From DACs to headphone amplifiers and higher quality streaming services such as Tidal and Qobuz (we still wait for Spotify Hi-Fi to make its entrance), the issue of ‘quality’ is one of the frontiers that the music and audio industry is pushing towards. All these devices have the potential to make music sound better, so while my smartphone will still be my device of choice given how much it (rightly or wrongly) rules my day-to-day activities, when it comes to listening to music in its highest quality, I’ll be tuning in with my portable player to get the best experience possible.

On My View Point...

You may think that, there’s only a need of an audio enhancing software or a high end headphones. But on all every aspects, from nostalgic design, high end specs possible and even quality - Sony have managed to make it all happen in a capsule. And that’s it. For music lovers, this will be dream gadget for sure and so happy to see this upgrade on this formfactor which was really unexpected. And looking forward to have a glance of one of these in real.
